2023.06.08 12:45 Babbit55 [LFA] Marie Battencourt, The evil enchantress
Introduction
Marie is an Evil, sarcastically deadpan Enchantress, with a superiority complex and permanent disinterested sneer. A skilled prodigy of the school, she has a belief of those with power should rule, and she coverts that power, particularly the power of the Fey and her end goal, to ascend and become an Arch fey. She believes magic should be used with finesse and skill, mainly using the schools of Enchantment and Illusion, she has a dislike for Evocation believing it brutish and a hatred of Necromancy as she sees it as corrupting.
Physical appearance / Gear:
Marie is a human, though is often mistaken for a vampire, her pale complexion and skill with charms and domination magic do little to disuade this, while naturally blond she died her hair black and usually wears dark goth aesthetic clothing (Which really just makes people think she is a vampire even more!), having recently died she was reincarnated and somehow stayed human, her natural hair turning red and one eye becoming Grey, the other remaining the Ice Blue of her former body. Her signature gear is her arcane grimoire, ring of mind shielding and Elven chainmail, which she usually wears under her robe of eyes.
Hair wise she keeps it long and neat, though is considering dying it (So long as its dark and not a shade of blond i'm open there!)
Her poor familiar is a fruit bat, enchanted into the form of a stuffed toy... a form she mainly uses to keep watch.
Personality
Cruel and condescending, Marie is quick to point out peoples flaws, she cares little for others. She is also however incredibly observant, not much misses this dark enchantresses view.

2023.06.08 10:16 Bedroid Red Dog Casino Reviews (2023) Online Casino Review, My Experience ...
| My Red Dog Casino Review Hello Redditor gamers, I recently spent some time at Red Dog Online Casino (reddogcasino.com) and I thought I'd share my experiences with you. If you're looking for an honest and comprehensive review, then buckle up! I've included my referral ad links to visit Red Dog Casino and collect the listed bonuses. https://preview.redd.it/9zxggyzd4r4b1.jpg?width=1450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31d7caac9928945e4e7e333048dfb322300e89d3 Red Dog Online Casino First off, Red Dog Casino stands out with its eye-catching red-and-black design and playful dog theme. It's inviting and engaging, and I noticed this user-friendly aesthetic continues across the website making it easy for new users to navigate. As for the games, Red Dog Casino boasts a wide range of gaming options powered by RealTime Gaming (RTG), one of the leading casino software providers. Whether you prefer slots, poker, or table games like roulette or blackjack, there's plenty to keep you entertained. There's even a live dealer option if you want that real casino experience. Red Dog even offers live online casino gaming where you play against live blackjack dealers, or craps and roulette. Live dealer games are powered by Visionary iGaming. One huge plus for Red Dog Online Casino is its mobile compatibility. I found that games ran smoothly on both iOS and Android platforms without the need to download an app. So you can take the fun with you wherever you go. Now, let's talk bonuses. Red Dog Casino offers a generous welcome bonus for new players. The Bonus T&Cs specify a wagering requirement of 35x on both the deposit and bonus amount, which is fairly standard in the online casino industry. Always make sure you read these terms and conditions before signing up, though. New Red Dog players can receive up to $8,000 in welcome bonuses. Terms and conditions apply, please read them first always before depositing to any online casino. Moreover, Red Dog also provides daily bonuses and a game-of-the-month bonus, which is a nice touch for regular players. On the downside, Red Dog Casino's withdrawal process can be a bit slow. It can take up to 5 business days for credit cards, which is a tad longer than most other online casinos. This could be a downside for those who value quick payouts. You can find complaints about this online. Customer support was an improvement over payout times. With 24/7 live chat, email, and phone support, you're never left in the dark if an issue arises. As for safety and fairness, Red Dog Casino is licensed by Curacao eGaming, a reputable authority. They also use SSL encryption for transactions to ensure your financial information is secure. After combing through top online casino review portals, the overall average rating for Red Dog Casino on most online casino portals is around 4.1 out of 5 stars. This rating reflects the wide range of games, user-friendly interface, and strong customer support. They do have a low rating around 2 stars on TrustPilot so that's concerning to see even though my experience has been very positive overall. I have always been paid in full and on time by Red Dog and its sister online casinos. To sum up, Red Dog Casino is a decent option for both new and experienced online gamers. It offers a comprehensive gaming experience with a diverse array of games, mobile compatibility, and generous bonuses. The only real downside is the slightly slower withdrawal process. I hope this Red Dog casino review helps, and remember, gamble responsibly! Estimated*Overall Casino Rating: 4.1/5 Happy gaming :) Visit Red Dog Casino - Up to $8,000 welcome bonus - T&C's Apply. Gamble Responsibly: Ages 21+ Before betting online you should check your local gambling laws and follow them at all times. Online gaming regulations vary by location so check your local online gaming laws before playing for money. 2023.06.08 10:14 rkmarbleindia Choose Sandstone to Make Your Home Shine
Sandstone has been a popular choice for homes for ages. One of the primary reasons to choose sandstone is its durability which can last for generations without losing its charm and elegance. Additionally, sandstone price is also affordable as compared to other natural stones like granite or marble. It brings a warm, earthy texture to any living space, making it an ideal option for both indoor and outdoor applications. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, sandstone is also highly resistant to weathering elements like wind, rain, and sun exposure; hence it requires minimal maintenance over time. Sandstones are naturally found in various shades of brown, reds and yellows which make them versatile enough to blend with different architectural styles seamlessly. Whether you are looking forward to adding warmth and character to your home's façade or creating an inviting patio area indoors or outdoors; choosing sandstone will ensure long-lasting beauty at an affordable cost.

2023.06.08 09:59 NoraYoHan What's with the negativity?
I'm honestly surprised by the amount of complaining people do in this sub about items and star paths. This game is being played by a lot of people from around the world and from different generations. I'm sure it's difficult to cater to every single person as everyone likes something else. This means that from time to time there will be items or missions or whatever that you won't like. And that is fine!
I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the theme park star path. The items aren't that useful to me as it doesn't fit the aesthetic of my village. However, I understand that a lot of other people go crazy over these items. I still collected all items except for some of the clothing that I really didn't like. It's just nice to have as back-up. Same goes for the motifs. I'm not a designer so I rarely get motifs unless I really like one. However, I don't complain about it because there are people who love designing. The motifs are for those who prefer to design clothing over decorating (or do both of which I'm incredibly jealous). A lot of people suggest lowering the amount, but then you are giving other players less options to play the game in the way they prefer.
Now I see a lot of people disliking this star path. I, on the other hand, absolutely love it. I loved Turning Red and I was so excited to see it would be in the star path. I actually bought moonstones for the first time to make sure I get everything I want, even some of the motifs! I also like the items for the new Elemental movie.
My point is: people like different things. Just accept that you won't always like everything and be happy for those that are a fan of a certain theme. The devs are open to hear your opinions so simply suggest to them directly what you would like to see next time.

2023.06.08 08:40 mywatchmerchant How to Care For Chopard Watches?
| https://preview.redd.it/nkxkuz3bpq4b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=d26f124b5c56da921a91c45ebb84f8bcd9b4f6e5 Founded in Switzerland in 1860, Chopard has earned a stellar reputation for its exquisite jewelry and watches. The brand has graced the red carpet and captivated the wrists of discerning watch collectors. Louis-Ulysse Chopard established the company, and later, Karl Scheufele III took over, steering the Chopard enterprise towards unparalleled success. Today, Chopard stands tall as a renowned luxury brand, crafting high-end jewelry and watches. Chopard timepieces are highly regarded for their impeccable craftsmanship, reliability, and aesthetic appeal. The brand offers a diverse collection, catering to a variety of styles and preferences. Notably, Chopard remains one of the rare independent luxury brands in the industry. Watch enthusiasts recognize Chopard for its exceptional movements and an array of elegant, complex designs. For watch aficionados, adding a Chopard timepiece to their collection is a testament to their refined taste. If you are fortunate enough to own a Chopard watch, it's important to know how to care for it properly. Here are some valuable care tips for your Chopard watch: - Keep it away from magnets: Magnetic fields, such as those emitted by TVs or speakers, can interfere with the precision of your watch. Avoid placing it near such objects.
- Rinse after exposure to saltwater: If your luxury watch comes into contact with saltwater, it's crucial to rinse it with clear water afterward to prevent any damage.
- Handle crowns above water: To maintain the water resistance of your watch, avoid adjusting the crown underwater.
- Avoid extreme temperatures: Sudden temperature changes or exposure to extreme temperatures can impact the performance of your watch. Take care to keep it away from such conditions.
- Keep acidic substances at bay: Acidic substances, such as household cleaning agents or chemicals, can harm your watch. Ensure they do not come into contact with your timepiece.
- Steer clear of perfumes and cosmetics: Perfumes and cosmetics contain chemicals that can potentially damage your watch. Avoid spraying or applying them while wearing your Chopard timepiece.
- Ensure water resistance: If your watch is water-resistant, before exposing it to water, ensure that the crown and pushers are properly pushed in or screwed down to maintain its water resistance.
- Avoid chemical cleaning products: Using chemical products to clean your watch can cause damage to the strap/bracelet or compromise the water-resistant gaskets. Stick to recommended cleaning methods.
- Extra care for jewelry models: If your Chopard watch features moving parts like diamonds or gold letters, it may not be guaranteed water-resistant. Keep these models away from chemicals, cosmetics, or alcohol-based products.
- Test water resistance: Over time, gaskets can deteriorate, affecting the water resistance of your watch. Regularly test the water resistance, especially before engaging in water activities or subjecting it to significant impacts.
- Protect leather straps: Leather straps are not suitable for water exposure. Prevent water damage by keeping them away from moisture.
Chopard offers an extensive collection of watches that you can explore further. While these care tips are essential, some aspects of watch maintenance require professional attention. For all your watch needs, trust My Watch Merchant. At My Watch Merchant, our expert watch repair services ensure your timepiece remains in top condition for an extended period. 2023.06.08 05:25 HighStrungHabitat Am I the only one who feels like Red is kind of underrated?
Okay, now I know some can and will argue that Red is not an underrated album, considering how well it charted, and the fact it included her first #1 hit. BUT I feel like the aesthetic of Red, and red as an era is super underrated if that makes sense. It just blows my mind bc I feel like Red was absolutely the most aesthetic era of them all. The outfits, the music videos, THE TOUR, everything about it was top tier, completely amazing. not to mention red as a color jus fits Taylor the best imo.
Also, red was her last album before she completely switched to pop so it’s just very different from the rest of her albums and has a very special vibe to it.
Lastly, oh how I wish it was easier to find red inspired outfits, like the high rise super tight shorts, IMPOSSIBLE to find. Red fashion is immaculate.

2023.06.08 05:11 thethiiinker I cannot get over this painting
| > be me > say that you want to eat a painting in a reddit post for a philosophy project > refuse to elaborate > leave like a gigachad In all seriousness... This is "Head of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette" by Vincent Van Gogh. The idea behind the painting itself is relatively simple: a skeleton with a lit cigarette in its jaw. However, the way that this piece of art was executed manages to hit the mark on all four aesthetic theories. To begin with some simple analysis, Van Gogh's brush stroke texture is iconic. It has this soft streakiness to it in detail, but important, shapes are concise. The usage of various colors in this painting is absolutely genius, imitating the off-white of a human skeleton using mostly dark and muddy greens and reds (which are complementary colors) in shading, and lighter cream colors for highlights. To create the effect the light has on the skeleton and elevate the sensation of the skeleton being a three-dimensional object, there is even some teal towards the very back of the head. The realism of the painting speaks to Imitationalism wonderfully, as the shadows, highlights, proportions, and colors are all accurate to real life and the masterful execution of it all clearly shows a deep understanding of how to imitate real life. Similarly, this painting would also very much appeal to Formalism, as the technique put into this painting is simply immaculate right left and center. It is detailed, but not too complicated, the main shapes are clear, and both the anatomy and perspective are basically perfect. The usage of color theory is genius. An instrumentalist would even be impressed by this painting: a skeleton with a cigarette. There are so many different meanings and messages to be interpreted. Perhaps it is a warning to the dangers of smoking, or maybe it is a reminder not to take life so seriously by using a morbid model and adding in something considered juvenile. A similar message could be interpreted by an artist who knows that drawing a skeleton, nevermind painting one is great for practicing the fundamentals of art and throwing in the cigarette feels like the equivalent of scribbling a silly doodle on your test. Finally, this painting could also be of interest to an Emotionalist: this painting creeps out a lot of people, since a human skeleton depicted so realistically is often uncomfortable to look at. It could invoke feelings of disgust for some, or intrigue for others. Morbidity is one of the best ways to get an emotional response, and this art piece is proof of that. Overall, this painting is incredible, and it is unsurprising that the person who created it is considered a classic inspiration to artists worldwide. 2023.06.08 04:26 Yarbles The Official Report of the May RVA Reddit (no we haven't) Bookclub
It was a fine day in May and we pulled up and talked about some books. We covered
Blitz by Daniel O'Malley and, because it was recently Mother's Day,
I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. And we spent way more time on them than we usually do, so we must have liked them. Quite a few people read the Blitz. Incorrigible_muffin had previously covered it, but was disappointed in the a payoff, and said the two story lines didn't really resolve. Aurora_the_Off-White said that she liked it, but agreed that it wasn't on the same level as the first two.
She said that Blitz could have a strong philosophical payoff even if the storylines didn't have an strong resolution. If someone read Blitz by itself without the first two novels, they might enjoy it more. Carbonjen thought there was a lot to like about the writer, saying he writes women well. Muffin said there were a lot of interesting possibilities in the world he created. The author covers the British and American versions of supernatural bureaus, but there were many of these throughout the world.
We talked about the story's structure. The main character's lost memory lets the author explain the supernatural elements in detail and do the worldbuilding without any distracting exposition. Munsontime had a thought, asking if it was technically the same person in the body or a completely new personality that developed after the wiped memory. If a personality is a product of the experiences and memories the person accumulates, then it's probably a different person.
Munson blitzed through the first two and is currently on the third. He was surprised at the spelling of the main character's name, Myfanwy Thomas, having listened to the audiobook. I was surprised and a little disappointed that the pronunciation is just "Miffany". Princess_MoNaanKay stopped by to return the first book int the The Checquy Files,
The Rook that I had lent out. I thought she was returning it specifically because we were reading The Blitz, but she said she's decided to see other bookclubs. So we just need to move on and live our best bookclub life and hope she finds happiness.
Jennette McCurdy was apparently in a show called
iCarly. I had never seen it or heard of it, so I think I missed a lot of context from the book. Everyone else in our group really liked the book - finding it insightful and funny. Most people agreed that the things the author's mom did stood out, and so did the actions of
Dan Schneider, who was the creator of iCarly. But she didn't go into that in depth. Muffin said the system that pipelines kids into the entertainment business is fundamentally responsible for many of these abusive situations, and the actions of the mom are a product of that. Aurora thought that the author used humor to cope with loss and grief.
We talked about long wait times for getting books from the library. Carbonjen actually bought
Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica because she was not optimistic about it becoming available through the library. She didn't have as many spicy romance recommendations as last time, but did have a couple. She thought
Pestilence by Laura Thalassa was good and a fun concept. It's the first of The Four Horsemen series; a romance involving the four horseman of the apocalypse.
She liked
The Siren a lot less. I think this was the one by Kiera Cass. Apparently the characters said the word "fishcunt" too many times and it became grating. She also didn't like how a lot of the characters in
A Court of Thorns and Roses were developed in the story. She mentioned Brutal Prince only to say it was brutally bad, and is reading
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and liking. And that makes Muffin happy.
Sassypapaya recently read
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, which is very popular around these parts. I think she said she read
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and may have had good things to say about
Lightlark by Alex Aster, or that may have been someone else. She was too far away from me for me to follow the conversation from that side of the circle very well. She asked about
Verity by Colleen Hoover and Muffin said that Colleen Hoover was a step up from Stephanie Meyer.
Munson and his friends have a rule for their bookclub: you can't use the term "Beautiful Prose". But
if he was forced to provide an example of beautiful prose, then he
might use it when talking about
Another Country by James Baldwin. He described it as "Kerouacky" - intimate and sexual especially for 1961. It's about the Jazz scene in NY in the 60s, with themes of race, gender, and sexual orientation in its cultural context. A slice of life story in the gay, black, jazz scene in New York.
The Trial of Henry Kissinger by Christopher Hitchens is next for his other bookclub, Apparently Hank is bumping up against age 100. It was estimated that his cold-blooded policy directives are responsible for 4 or 5 million deaths. We talked briefly about
Red Rising by Pierce Brown, which was the biggest book in the world for a minute. Munson said that, as a sci fi guy, he had already read many similar stories before and it just wasn't a big deal for him.
Assaulty recently read
American War by Omar Al Akkad, and talked about how people end up on different sides of a conflict. Many times people don't have a choice about which side they end up on, and American War addresses some of these themes. She asked for more like this book. Asterion7 suggested Paolo Bacigulupi works such as
The Water Knife and
Shipbreaker, which are near future works with major themes of climate catastrophe. For this kind of thing I always recommend
Afterwar by Lilith Saintcrow. Saintcrow a romance writer and I was really surprised by this book. It's gritty and hard, and a little spicy but not romantic.
Assaulty also read
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and likes reading about creative partnerships like this. She told us about
Nevada by Imogen Binnie, which is one of the inspirations for
Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters;
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone; and
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks, the first book of the Night Angel trilogy.
Muffin told us about
The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson, the next book after the
The Yellow Wife, which features Lumpkin's Jail. The House of Eve takes place in DC and Philly and ties in with the events of the first boo., The author will be
giving a talk on June 8th at the Library of Virginia, and Muffin wanted to read this before seeing the author.
Please join us for a talk by award-winning author Sadeqa Johnson on her new novel, The House of Eve, the follow-up to her book Yellow Wife, which won the Library’s 2022 People’s Choice Award for Fiction. In this moving work of historical fiction set in 1950s Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., the stories of two women collide in unexpected ways as they both make decisions that shape the trajectory of their lives. The House of Eve was an instant New York Times best seller and was selected by Reese’s Book Club as the February 2023 pick. A book signing will follow the talk.
The Carole Weinstein Author Series supports the literary arts by bringing both new and well-known authors to the Library of Virginia through online or in-person events. Free and open to the public, the series focuses on Virginia.
Coconut read the second book in the Great Cities series by N.K. Jemisin called the
The World We Make. Asterion7 picked up
Trust by Herman Diaz, a Pulitzer prize winner. He also read
We Are All the Same in the Dark by Julia Heaberlin and liked it enough to finish it, but not much more than that.
assaulty is looking for a gateway to Sci Fi, and asked about the distinction between Sci Fi and Fantasy. However many people there are in the room, that's the number of different opinions you're likely to hear at any given time. Some say it's magic versus technology. If Sci Fi doesn't have magic, what about Star Wars and force lightning from those Sith guys? So maybe Star Wars is actually Fantasy and Star Trek is Sci Fi. But what about wormholes and different dimensions and the super annoying character Q? It's a subject worth exploring, but there might not be an answer. To me those are just two different themes with strong aesthetic styling.
Assaulty may have read
Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler or it might have just been recommended to her because she is interested in Sci Fi and liked The American War. Skyvrbyvr loved
Octavia Butler's Kindred giving it 5 stars. She says it's not just beautiful prose: she respects that Butler is not afraid to create gruff and real people - characters that are somewhat unlikable but somehow still relatable.
Aurora had a huge list of completions and I have no idea if these are all hers or not. But this month she read a bunch of first books across several series. I think heard
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo;
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams the first of the The Dragonbone Chair series (I think she deemed it meh);
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson also caught a meh; and
Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, the first of the Gentleman Bastards series.
The last one generated a lot of interest as a lot of us have read it and really liked it. Like The Checquy Files, the first book is fantastic and there are diminishing returns after that, though I haven't read the last two: The Republic of Thieves and The Thorn of Emberlain. Munson says that if you read Sanderson, then
The Stormlight Archive series is the way to go. Aurora also has
Circe by Madeline Miller on hold at the library.
We talked about a few books about music, I think all of these are from Munson, including
Meet Me in the Bathroom by Lizzy Goodman: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001-2011;
Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain; and
Sing Backwards and Weep, a memoir by the singer Mark Lanegan. We also talked a little about
Nardwuar, a music interviewer who is amazingly in-depth but often described as offputting.
Munson says he can sometimes be invasive and not enjoyable but agrees that he is talented. Nardwuar is likely autistic and we were informed that "neurospicy" is no longer acceptable. Obviously, I'm cool with someone else deciding what they find offensive and following their recommendations, but I wish we had something to pivot to. We talked about how the line between normies and nerurodivergents can be pretty thin and while gatekeeping mental health can be frustrating, it's also infuriating that people resist any accommodation for neurodivergent people.
I knocked off a few books, including
On a Night of A Thousand Stars by Andrea Yaryura Clark;
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, and
Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins. The last was comparable to Station Eleven in terms of quality and themes. The story wasn't as good, but the prose was pretty exceptional. The author was able to do some things I hadn't seen before. I'm reading
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty,
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, and listening to a couple courses about Human Pre History, First Civilizations, and pre-Alexandrian Empires.
Apparently George RR Martin joined the writer's strike and is not writing anything, not that you could really tell. We talked about the 8th season of Game of Thrones, and how those two producers just ruined at least hundreds of millions of dollars in sales of DVDs, downloads, books, and comics. One of the most disastrous effects of incompetence on a brand I've ever seen.
We talked about
Patrick Rothfus's Name of the Wind and how the main character was a bit of a Mary Sue, but the narrator might have intentionally been portrayed as unreliable. Someone brought up
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits by Laila Lalami, and we added
The Moor's Account as August's non-dorky read. Some of the guys don't want to me call it a Muggle book anymore, and would rather call it a regular book. Maybe we need to keep looking for the right term.
We talked about books with actual paper pages versus reading on a device or listening to audiobooks. Carbonjen says she prefers the Kindle Paperweight because her dogs chews up actual books. I read paper, epub, and listen in about equal proportions. I was listening to Dodge, or Fall in Hell and was not liking it, but started liking it better when I flipped to the epub version. Munson says he uses safari reader on his laptop and will set it to autoscroll. We also compared strategies for downsizing our libraries. Very few people keep every book they buy anymore, especially if you have moved your collection a couple times.
We talked about the St. James Muse, trails on the James, the resurgence in skating, and art classes at the VMFA and Visual Arts Studio. We also talked about all the pedestrians being hit by cars and how squaring street corners can slow cars down. Right now corners are rounded, encouraging cars to take them at speed. And how dash cams are an essential equipment for cars now. Chop Suey is now Shelf Life and Wonton is now "Wonny". But has retired and been replaced by two new cats, presumably who are earning much lower, entry-level wages.
Someone brought up BookTalk.org, saying they mostly got ass recommendations out of it. I've used
https://www.whatshouldireadnext.com and it isn't
so bad, but really isn't any better than Goodreads. I've used
Shepherd a couple of times, which can be really good if you're looking for exactly the type of book that has been covered in one of their lists, but it seems to only accept general categories.
Coming Up on June 18 Coming Up on July 23 - Just pick a book in your To Be Read pile and tell us about it. We were lamenting the large backlog that each of each is carrying around and decided to just knock some of them out.

2023.06.08 01:23 Life-Dig-4843 [Tudor Prince Oysterdate 34 with Black Gilt Guilloche Dial]: They don’t make them like they used to
| This is a Tudor reference 7914, circa 1958. This one however is a rare variation of the Prince Oysterdate 34, with a gorgeous black guilloche (waffle) dial, and gilt radium dial and hands. This watch also has a rare brevet Rolex crown and red/black roulette date wheel. This piece wears large, measuring 34mm with a 20mm lug width and thick case profile. This is highly unusual for vintage Tudor, with most lug widths 18-19mm. What I personally love about this piece is its vintage warmth, and continued relevance today despite being made in 1958. I also love the explorer type numerals at 12, 6 & 9 with a framed date window. The plexiglass on this piece has a cyclops which elevates it’s aesthetic. This piece essentially has all of the design elements I love in both Rolex and Tudor combined. It is a truly unique piece. Tudor certainly didn’t make them like they used to. This doesn’t mean I dislike modern Tudor, far from it, but I love some of their vintage models more. submitted by Life-Dig-4843 to Watches [link] [comments] |

2023.06.08 00:30 Giallo_Biafra Darkroom
Recently picked this up, and got distracted during the opening credits focusing on the film grain. Later in the film, sifting through the red herrings and wafting in the orange grove ambiance, I got this visceral reaction that reminded me of vibes from Island Of Death.
Island Of Death is definitely one of the more depraved in the video nasty list and I think of it when I see Nico Mastorakis’ name on so many films. Point here is that I had missed his name “developing” as Producer during the creative opening credits AND itms not mentioned on the back cover (unlike Grandmother’s House).
Turns out Nico did score too according to one of the actor interviews, both of which are great. One actor seems focused in the economic aspects of acting in LA at that time while the second actor’s interview is about the craft— both are great.
Don’t sleep on Darkroom. The reverse side artwork should’ve been turned into the slip since the photo they use makes it look more modern than it is while stone washed denim, bangs and pink reebok high tops outline the aesthetic

2023.06.08 00:12 xxbaniazxx Advice on my Home Decor!
| Hello! I just joined Webkinz and I would love everyone’s advice/opinions on how to improve my home! I know that my house is relatively simple/less grand compared to everyone else’s, but I am a relatively new player and I do like things to be on the simpler side aesthetically. I’ve included all the rooms in my house with comments on what I think could be changed (some I am already happy with but just included so y'all could get a sense of my style), please do let me know what you think :) I'd love to hear what y'all would change even on things I didn't comment on/rooms that I am happy with. Also, my username is zaiba in case anyone wants to be friends :) *Note: I am not a deluxe player and I don't have estore points, so sadly I can't really access those kinds of items/decor. Lychee’s Room: I just don’t think that everything comes together cohesively and can’t seem to find the right wallpaper to match the furniture. I have already tried all the Wshop wallpapers (I’m not a deluxe member and don’t have estore points so I sadly can’t access those) but I just don’t think the blue is quite right. I don't love that Yogurt and Lychee have a duplicate painting in their rooms but I can't find any wall decor that fits better. I just think there is a lot going on here, would it look better if I removed the decorative two middle rows and just kept the crops? The flowers are much brightemore saturated than the crops, do you think that is off putting, and if so, what should I put instead? I do think it would look better if the rare crops in the corner each had their own row, but that is all that I've got for now, huge S/O to u/SophiaEve2018 for being so kind as to send them to me. :) If anyone else has rare seeds, I would be love to pay you whatever you think is reasonable for them! Gym: Again, I think the wallpaper doesn’t quite fit right but I have tried everything in the W-shop available to non deluxe members and nothing seems to fit. Secret Garden (option 1 of 2): This is one of my favorite rooms, I just can’t decide which bench looks better. I think aesthetically I prefer the simpler one but I almost feel as though it would be a waste not to use the fancier one. What do you think? Secret Garden (option 2 of 2): This is one of my favorite rooms, I just can’t decide which bench looks better. I think aesthetically I prefer the simpler one but I almost feel as though it would be a waste not to use the fancier one. What do you think? Bathroom: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. Backyard: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. Living Room: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. Kitchen: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. Ginger's Room: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. Yogurt's Room: I am satisfied with this room but would love to hear suggestions/what you would change. I don't love that Yogurt and Lychee have a duplicate painting in their rooms but I can't find any wall decor that fits better. Pumpkin Patch: This room is for profit so there isn't much to be done in terms of aesthetics. Watermelon Vineyard: his room is for profit so there isn't much to be done in terms of aesthetics. submitted by xxbaniazxx to Webkinz [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 23:13 WasdCritics Curse of the Dead Gods
| While a game in the rouguelite genre Curse of the Dead Gods presents a subtle unity of the elements that make up the work, yet with a conclusion that serves too much of the gameplay, and almost nothing of the plot. The plot of Curse of the Dead Gods discurses about an adventurer named Caradog McCallister exploring the temple of the god of death, within this environment there are three gods imprisoned by the god of death Xbeltz'aloc, the gods are: T'amok' the jaguar god of war and earthly fire, Yaatz the eagle goddess of the sky and fire storm, and Sich'al the serpent goddess of divine vision and perception. The goal of the game is to destroy the god himself and conquer this temple. This plot is not spelled out right away, there is little information and it is given throughout the game when the player is able to unlock the bestiary pages. The pages have limited information and are usually stray snippets of history without many connections. It is clear that the story is in the background in the game, it is not the core of the work, but the way it is put, always in fragments, and scattered makes sense with the proposal of the game, the character is an explorer, the information must be mined and discovered little by little and nothing is clear and concise. It is a very interesting idea that by leaving aside this side of the storyline still makes up a unity with the proposal of the work. To understand the plot there is a certain effort from the player to compose the loose pieces of history and this generates immersion with this explorer character. The interesting thing is that this character has no lines, this makes him distant from the player, not intimate at all. Perhaps this works with the idea of the player dying and being resurrected at the beginning of the temple, the character's death is trivial because of the distance that is created between her and the player, which starts with the lack of a name for the character. Rouguelite as a genre receives several roguelike characteristics but adds some ideas of its own, the hack slash proposal, and that of permanent items, despite the classic permanent death. Curse of the Dead Gods presented this genre that roughly speaking cares much more about the mechanics and challenges than about the story, succeeds in this less important aspect, because the work uses the story to corroborate the classic mechanics of the genre. The resurrection mechanic is based on the god of death himself who plays sadistically resurrecting the player infinite times to try again to complete the temple, so this mechanic of resurrection, the constant repetition of the path to try to overcome it that is a basic idea of the rouguelite is corroborated by the game's story. Another point that the mechanics are connected to the story is in the attributes: constitution, dexterity, and perception, each one linked to a color and a god. The constitution is linked to the jaguar god and the color red, dexterity to the eagle goddess and the color blue, and perception to the serpent goddess and the color green. In addition the blessings are also linked to the gods following the color ideas, the red blessings to the jaguar god, the blue blessings to the eagle goddess and the green blessings to the serpent goddess. As in the story these gods are imprisoned by the god of death, it makes sense for him to help the player overcome the temples, kill the god of death and so they can be set free. Again the story, serving the game mechanics. https://preview.redd.it/pzd11bn2wn4b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3383cfcc7b93b1b2ec07ab76bd4c28b06eb3c37a It is not only the story that works for the game mechanics to make sense within the context of the work, the setting is also part of it. The temple, a dark place, full of monsters that has already been challenged by several other adventurers, this environment for being a temple and being connected to the divine, should have relics with sacred powers and for being explored countless times by several explorers should have several weapons used that were abandoned along the way during exploration, in addition as an environment dominated by the god of death, the lighting is needed as a basic antagonist the personification of the idea of death: dark, cold and treacherous, unlike fire that is light, warm and comfortable. With these ideas it is introduced different mechanics that are part of the game, the environment itself gives meaning to the mechanics made available. The mechanics are the basis of every roguelite, they are the key point, the core, the true protagonist of the work. That said, when analyzing them, they propose a large set of influences on top of the basic hack slash, dodge, and block gameplay, using lighting, weapons, attributes, corruption, blessings, divine favors, and relics. These influences come from different places, as mentioned before. The different mechanics that make up the game at first seem extremely complex and become easy to understand over time, but these outcroppings that influence the base gameplay, mask a chronic problem of the game, the simplicity of this same base gameplay. This simplicity is one factor that can destroy the experience when playing a roguelite. The roguelite as a game is all about challenges and overcoming, when it comes to the player experience, this is what makes it exciting, the feeling of overcoming, of achievement, and the harder the game is the more rewarding that feeling is. Of course, the developers have to keep in mind the limits of difficulty that they themselves propose in order not to discourage the players with constant failures. The line is fine, but it needs to be precise, this is the key point of a work of this style. The enemies presented are simple mechanically, both the normal mobs and some bosses, always with simple attacks and very easy to dodge, even some monsters towards the end of the game, such as the dark snake avatar, the boss is ridiculous how simple it is to face it, even the final boss is not a great challenge. Besides this problem, there is a problem directly related to the conclusion of the game, when facing the champion of the god of death, the last boss of the game, and ending the game, at least theoretically, the cinematic for conclusion serves directly to the mechanics, when killing himself instead of accepting to be dominated by the mask and assume the post of the new champion, the player returns to the beginning of time. This directly serves the mechanical idea of the player being able to continue doing the expeditions and not simply assume the position of the new champion of the god of death, however, when thinking about this the solution to the story's impasse does not exist, why will the gods continue helping the explorer if there are only two solutions and neither saves them? and yet the lack of choice at the end creates a feeling of obligation to stay in this loop forever, there is a sense of defeat, even after victory, the problem is that this defeat is imposed. Aesthetically the game is beautiful, the cartooning to deal with dark themes allows a natural surreality that is common in cartoons in general, so the choice is assertive. The thicker lines of the drawings make everything more defined, and serve well the mechanical purpose of delimiting the space of objects, making it easier to dodge attacks, skills, and traps in the game. One cool detail is the permanent items themselves, the idea of the crystal skull, makes a reference to the classic Indian jones and marries with the idea of the explorer, and the jade ring connects to the more oriental mystical part and the culture of jade as a holder of mystical powers. These two references do the idea of the work as a whole well. In conclusion, Curse of the Dead Gods manages to have a unity as a work with all its elements working together, presenting these elements as a strong support for its flagship, but the work gets lost in the core of its proposal and pushes down a disgusting ending that works solely for the game mechanics and not for the conclusion of a work. submitted by WasdCritics to u/WasdCritics [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 22:47 Endarox909 Sell me on Blood Angels
Hey guys, I want to get the leviathan box as do most of us, and I'm deciding on a chapter to use, my favourites are Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Dark Angels, with space wolves the problem being the fact that you cant use like 6 minis from the box without converting, which i would like to try at some point but not right now with something as expensive for me as Leviathan, so the other options are DA and BA and I want you guys to sell me on blood angels, with dark angels i like their secrets and artefacts they have on the Rock and also i love green and their paint schemes in general, I also love the knight aesthetic, the thing I'm not sure about is their "personality". With blood angels I really like the fact that they are noble artists with quite deep emotional side with their whole connection to sanguinius, also vampires are cool, but I'm not too sure about the red paint scheme. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions and tell me why you like them and why should i choose them over the others. I also really like the BA community as you guys really seem proud of your chapter choice but are really nice aswell. Thank yall for your answers!

2023.06.07 22:41 Future_Ad_3485 The Night Squad Files Case Zero: The Meeting of Partners
My fingers drummed on the cold steel table in my specialized prison cell, my daily dose of blood having not been sent to me. A dry thirst burned in my throat, my ruby eyes dilating at the vampire in a cheap business suit plopping down across from me. Playing with my amethyst waves, he traced his slender finger along the nape of his neck. His ruby eyes glistened with excitement, his slicked back ivory hair reminded me of everything I hated about the government.
“Pretty hungry, Morticia Deathbite?” He taunted cruelly, hatred burning in my eyes. “I have a deal for you. The government will exonerate you of all your charges if you agree to become my wife for a mission. There is one catch, you have to let me bite you. Oh forgive my manners. I am Agent Stanton Lifewick, a member of Night Squad. The vampires in the program work to hunt down serial killers that the police can’t seem to get. Will you join me?” Growling through gritted teeth, my inky lips curled into a defiant snarl. Spitting in his face, wicked laughter rumbled in his throat.
“You can rot in hell. You guys put me in this jail cell for only drinking the blood of serial killers. Fuck you.” I retorted venomously, his hands wiping away the spit. “You can leave now, you rotten bastard!” Snatching the collar of my orange jumpsuit, he yanked me close to his face. The corner of his lips twitched with fury, a raw tension thickening between us. Shooting daggers into each other's eyes, my elbow slammed into his face. Crashing back, I sprinted out the door. Red light bathed the concrete halls, a shrill alarm blaring in my ears. Unlocking the other criminals on my way out, the distraction would be my way out. Security guards attempted to stop me, one punch smashing them into the wall. A Cheshire Cat grin spread cheek to cheek at the open gate, my bare feet smashing through. Feeling the pale moonlight on my skin pleased me, Stanton called for me to stop. Flipping him off, I leapt into the trees. Hopping from branch to branch, my heart stopped at him blocking my path. Straightening up, claws extended from my black fingernails. Cracking my neck, he pulled out a gun with holy water soaked wooden bullets.
“I can’t let you escape.” He snapped hotly, a bead of sweat dripping off of his brow. “Join me now or I’ll shoot you.” Putting my hands up in the air as a dare, maniacal laughter burst from my lips. Shrugging my shoulders, he watched me crack my fingers one by one. Leaning forward, something was stopping him. My face fell at the sound of guns clicking underneath me, the sheer amount of agents scaring me. Placing my hands behind my back, my claws receded back into their place.
“Just take me back so I can fucking die.” I grumbled under my breath, Stanton putting his gun away. Leaping closer to me, even my speed wouldn’t allow me to dodge all of their bullets. Standing behind me, his fangs grazed the nape of my neck. His hot breath bathed my neck, the agents’ fingers all ready to shoot me. Too many black suits, I thought irritably to myself. Freedom and blood was all I desired, the bastards stripping both from me.
“Just fucking say yes, you idiot!” He growled huskily in my ear, his hand sliding down the small of my waist. “You get freedom and all the blood you need from me.” His invisible strength threatened to break my back, my body trembling in his hold. Something about it dulled my hatred for him. Concern flashed in his eyes for a moment, tears welling up in my eyes. Peeking into his soul, a white aura surrounded him. Bowing my head in shame, my bangs hid my eyes. Live a life alone in prison or experience life again? Did the world hate me as much as I hated it?
“Fine.” I uttered in with defeat, a sickening dread bubbling in my gut. “You win but you better treat me like one of you. I refuse to be a slave and a prisoner.” Sinking his fangs into my neck, the disgusting sound of him drinking my blood drowned out the agents putting their guns back. Inky bats flew across my breasts, a solid black band forming on his finger. An indescribable bond formed between us, silent tears streaming down my cheeks. This contract reminded me of how my first master used me to kill innocent people for defying the church, his gentle touch scaring me out of my trance.
“Are you okay?” He whispered kindly in my ear, the sudden shift in his personality ringing the alarm bells. “I am going to get you to the car and we will sign a marriage contract to get our license. I don’t bite. Well, unless I have to. I am aware you have been alive since medieval times so the concept of living off your mate’s blood is new. It actually makes you ten times stronger. Imagine that power coursing through you.” Tossing me over his shoulder, he jumped off the branch.
“Operation Get Hitched is a success!” He announced with a warm smile, a tender blush rising to my cheeks. “Go home to your families.” Carrying me to the car, my waves bounced up and down with every step. Sitting me down in the passenger seat of a generic black armored SUV, my hair blew back as he slammed the door shut. Sliding into his seat, he pulled out a pile of papers from the center console. Passing me the pile, I knew the drill. Signing on the dotted lines, a knock stole his breath away. Rolling down the window, a fellow agent stamped the paper. Dropping two velvet boxes into my lap, the papers fluttered in the other agent’s hands. Closing his window, he held my hand up. Opening up the closest box to him, he slid on an onyx band of twisted branches. Grasping the remaining box, my jaw dropped at the matching band. Sliding on his finger shakily, surprise rounded his eyes. Thorns dug into my fingers, his face showing the same fate for him. Sniffing the ring, it reeked of an eternal curse. Fantastic, we were bound together forever.
“Can I ask you a question?” I choked out awkwardly, a warm gaze falling on me. “Why me? I am not the only vampire there. I can think of s-” Putting his finger up in the air, the ring glittered in the pale moonlight. Grabbing my shoulder, any cockiness he had was gone. It almost seemed to be a mask in front of the boys, his private personality seeming naturally sweet.
“I picked you because I saw your beautiful face in a pile of files. Also you are the oldest vampire alive, so that helped. I find you rather amazing. I don’t agree with you killing all those serial killers but you had to eat. Am I right?” He mused tenderly, is crooked grin stopped time as the urge to kiss him dominated my mind. “How about you drink something? I had them starve you for a couple of days. I am sorry about that.” Guiding my head to the nape of his neck, his vein throbbed violently. Biting him now would seal the deal from my side, the scent of a summer day wafted up my nose. Piercing his tender flesh, my pupils enlarged at the first sip, the sweet taste of lemonade coated my throat. Wrapping my arms around his neck, short gasps poured from his lips. Drinking my fill, a satisfied sigh flowed freely from me. He was right, your mate’s blood tasted like nothing else. Scarlet blood stained the corner of his lips, my hands cupping his face. Pressing my lips against his sensually, his arm slid down to the small of my waist. Refusing to let me go, his tongue danced in my mouth. Time stopped, our heartbeats were all I could hear. Releasing him from the spell, he sat back in a daze with a goofy grin. Scarlet burned his cheeks, my impulsive behavior having landed me in some hot water for sure.
“Sorry for that.” I apologized profusely, hoping that he wouldn’t hate me for acting on my inner thoughts. “I get a little impu-” Kissing me back with twice as much passion, my body arched towards him. The seat belt was the only thing that held me back, his heart beating faster than mine. Another knock interrupted him, a flustered Stanton rolled the window down.
“What!” He yelled sharply, the ivory haired female’s ruby eyes flitting between me and him. “Selena, you need to give your older brother privacy.” Her petite five two figure didn’t scream power but boy did her intense color changing aura. Sticking out her tongue, a deeper scarlet colored his cheeks. Blinking a couple of times, she leaned into the car.
“I am Selena Dogood, his baby sister. You must be the infamous Morticia he never stopped talking about. Honestly, he never shut up.” She teased lightly, her short leather dress fluttering in the breeze. “Would you like to h-” Covering her mouth with his hand, a stern gaze shut her offer down.
“I would but I need to get to the hell I am calling suburbia. You know the reason I married her in the first place. They suspect the serial killer is living in that godforsaken town.” He informed her briskly, cursing under his breath. “I might like her a bit. Do you have her clothes? People are going to stare if I bring her out in a prison jumpsuit.” Dropping a silky emerald dress into his lap, a horrendous flashback of the church dressing me in lingerie for special guests to view haunted me. Horrendous slurs had been carved into my skin, the people throwing rotten tomatoes at me. Clutching my chest, a tight embrace snapped me back to reality. Selena put her hands up into the air, walking back to her own SUV. Kissing the top of my head, the nature of our bond made this moment unbearably sweet. His slender six foot seven frame towered over me by a good foot, thus his embrace felt like Heaven. Shaking my head, I shoved him off. Undoing my seat belt, he turned his back as I peeled off the jumpsuit. Tossing it into the back, I tugged on the sweetheart neckline dress. The silk felt soft against my skin, the material a far better cry from the rough cotton of my previous outfit. The straps failed to cover the number the prison had branded me with, my fingers tracing the faint numbers. Not seeing what I did wrong, the people should have applauded me. Furthermore, I needed to eat.
“You look beautiful.” He commented pleasantly, his eyes falling on the numbers branded on my chest. “They didn’t tell me that they did that to the first vampires in prison. I promise to make your life better. Can you cook?” His question threw me off as the engine roared to life, the trees turning into a sea of houses. Rolling my eyes, most of them were close enough to pass a damn cup of sugar through the bathroom window. The ranches nauseated me further, my heart sinking at the car pulling up to a flamingo pink ranch. My face scrunched in disgust, my eyes falling on a red headed woman with piercing blue eyes. Her curls bounced around her shoulders, her ample cleavage hanging out of a tight tank top. Pouting in my direction, something seemed off about her. Perhaps it was because her aura was darker than the bottom of the ocean. Hopping out to the car, his hand ripped open the car door. Sliding on the shoes, a scowl planted itself on her lips.
“Who’s Shirley Temple across the street?” I inquired softly, his eyes rolling. “She seems to like you.” Rolling his eyes, a wicked grin spread cheek to cheek as he rose to his feet. Pinning me to the car, his lips kissed mine hungrily. Time stopped, the sound of the night fading to the background. Releasing me from his spell, her death glare sent chills up my spine. Lifting my finger, he purposely showed off our wedding rings. Glee glittered in his eyes at her obvious bewilderment, he flipped her off on the way into the house. The outside must have been deceptive because all sorts of taxidermy lined the Victorian style wallpaper, the dark wooden bookshelves were lined with first editions of books. Sitting me down on what was his original emerald velvet couch, my hands rubbing the carved bats on the armrest. Crossing my legs, my eyes fell on the coffin coffee table. Laying down, sweet slumber stole me away.
Snapping awake, a flurry of impatient knocks frightened the shit out of me. The bright sunshine blinded me, a fluke in my DNA allowing me not to burn in the sun. Rushing to the door, the redhead from the night before knocked once more. Opening the door, I leaned on the door frame. Horror rounded her eyes at my porcelain skin and black lips, her perfect ass shoving her way in. Following her into an all black kitchen, she called out Stanley. Cocking my brow in response, a messy haired Stanton wandered into the hall. Defiance glittered in his eyes, my eyes taking in the same emerald wallpaper from the living room now lining the hall.
“You are a cockadoody for your disrespectful behavior from last night.” She complained bitterly, her eyes snapping back to me. “Did you find her on an albino dating site? Why haven’t I seen her?” Rubbing his bare muscular chest, he examined her pristine white dress and black sun hat. My heart fluttered at the sight of him, part of me wishing he wouldn’t slick his hair back anymore. A matching branded set of numbers sat on his chest, curiosity twinkling in my eyes.
“Why don’t you leave, Susie?” He asked politely, popping a white tablet into his mouth. “I need you and your husband to leave me alone today.” Narrowing her eyes in his direction, he motioned towards the door. Something seemed off with her, her aura sickening me. Cupping my mouth, he noticed my reaction to her presence. Not only that, the scent of her blood reminded me of a corpse. Walking up next to her, I pushed Stanton out of the way.
“What is your name?” I demanded viciously, folding my arms across my chest. True love lit up in his eyes for the first time, the crack of her slap stunning me into a temporary silence. Her chest huffed up and down, my crazed grin infuriating her further. Pinning me to the wall, I stole the opportunity to peek into her soul. A shadow blocked me from seeing into it, my face falling.
“I am Susan Smith, the leader of the neighborhood watch. I am watching you. I am a black belt by the way.” She warned icily, my unimpressed expression peeving her off further. “What is so funny?” Knowing that she would charge me if I touched her, I cleared my throat.
“Hello to you then.” I chirped cheerfully, turning on my people-friendly smile. “I think you should go now. I work the night shift and you and your creepy neighborhood watch can go fuck yourself. You can keep your hungry eyes off my husband.” Raising her hand to strike me, I caught it mid slap. Lowering it to her side, my grip on her wrist refused to let her go.
“Whatever. My husband is hotter than yours and the mayor of the town. I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole.” She returned haughtily, my fingers letting her go. “We don’t want you Gothic freaks in this perfect little slice of Heaven.” Cocking my brow at her words, it was obvious she liked my husband. A slightly overweight bald man in a pair of khakis and a blue button up shirt stepped out to search for his wife, his chocolate brown eyes falling on us. The name Richard stood out to me, a defiant glow coming over my face.
“He’s hot if slightly overweight and bald with a side of khaki’s is in fashion.” I taunted cruelly, watching her face grow red as the fire hydrant outside. Stomping off, she slammed the door behind her. Dusting off my dress, he pulled me in for a warm embrace. The foot difference made me feel pleasantly small, the feeling of his muscles against my face causing a tender blush to rise to my cheeks. This was an emotion that I haven’t felt in a while, the desire to give in to my nightly urges raged. Pushing him away, I folded my arms across my chest. Hurt dimmed his eyes, his hands running through his hair.
“We don’t have to do any of that until you are ready. We do have to get ready to go to the grocery. I just took my sunblock pill.” He explained happily, turning to walk back into his room. Hugging him from behind, my outcome was to alleviate his hurt. Freezing in his tracks, he spun on his heels. Hiding his wet eyes underneath his hair, he barely responded as I wiped away his tears. Pushing me away, a glass shattered on the worn wooden floor the moment I hit it. Shivering on the floor, I had tried too hard. Rushing into his room, I chased after him.
Fighting the tears, his years in prison had done a number on him. Sliding into the room in the nick of time, he shoved an onyx lace baby doll dress into my arms with a pair of chunky heeled boots. Stomping into the bathroom, he had his outfit hanging off of his arm. Changing quickly, he needed something to cheer him up. Crashing into the kitchen, the bottom of my dress fluttered with each step. Noting the dark roast coffee beans, coffee was the only thing vampires could taste beside blood. Humming to myself, I began the process of making him a latte. Smoothing out my bell sleeves, it was time to add the milk. Pouring the foaming milk into his coffee, he wandered in with a grumpy look on his face. My breath hitched at his black and white striped button up shirt over a pair of black shorts, his worn converses bringing him down to what age we looked like. A silver cross dangled from his left ear, his eyes falling on the apology coffee.
“I am sorry. It has been a long time since someone touched me. It is a tale I will tell you another time. Did you make that for me?” He queried with a tired smile, taking the clear cup in his trembling hands. “Did they teach you how to make this in jail?” Nodding silently, he took a sip. His eyes widened at how tasty it was, the cup was empty in a couple of minutes.
“Are we watching the people at the grocery store?” I questioned shakily, afraid to speak. “Won’t we stand out?” Shaking his head, he ruffled the top of my head. Kissing the top of my head, he offered me his elbow. Hooking mine around his, he guided me out to the car. Helping me in, we were soon heading to the local grocery store. The worn sign flickered against a faded tan facade, the housewives streamed in and out. An irritated Susan rushed past his car.
“We do but I have lived here for months, so they are used to it. If you wore pink it would be more alarming.” He whispered gruffly into my ears, those damn urges coming up again. “Trust me. We are the town freaks anyway with being “albinos”. The air quotes added a sense of humor to the moment, his soft chuckle telling me that he was fine. Helping me out, the wives all waved at him. Jealousy flashed in my eyes, his fingers intertwined with mine. While he received a bunch of smiles, I received death glare after death glare. Bright lights blinded me, the constant conversations caused my ears to pin back. The serial killer could be among these people, the very thought exhilarating.
“This can be a bit much for your first day out of jail. I would have left you at home but our bond won’t allow it.” He assured me sweetly, placing my hands on the cart. Holding me from behind, he rested his chin on my head. Talking for a minute to the butcher, a special symbol on his neck informed me that he was an ally. Susan rolled up next to me, one of her lackeys boxing me in. Leaning on the end of my cart, she cast insult after insult at me. Ignoring her words, a familiar face stole my attention. His wrinkles matched the father’s from back in the medieval times, a pair of sage eyes meeting mine. He smelled human, a Celtic symbol glowed on his neck. Susan waved her hands in front of me, a strained huh escaping my lips. His black priest’s uniform sickened me, clammy sweat soaking my skin.
“Did you hear me!” Susan demanded childishly, holding out an invitation. “This is something we call a book club.” Seconds from crumbling it up, Stanton snatched it from her fingers. Pecking me on the lips, she rolled her eyes in a huff. Father Rowell had disappeared into the crowd, my husband carrying on the conversation for me.
“I have to go to the bathroom!” I blurted out awkwardly, leaping over the carts. Crashing through the people, I skidded to a stop in front of Rowell. Reaching his hand out to me, a bolt of lightning zapped him the moment our skin touched. Clearing his throat, he pointed to the automatic doors.
“Shall we go outside?” He suggested with a sly grin, my ankle failing me at the wrong time. Crashing onto my ass, he snapped his finger. A rotting church towered over us, so many questions rested on the tip of my tongue. One pew remained, the wood groaning as we sat down on it. Why did this feel warmer than before?
“Are you the serial killer, you old man?” I interrogated intensely, his head shaking. Sliding me a Celtic spell book with the proper page open, the spell he was using only required the sacrifice of a lamb. Leaning back, he touched the glowing symbol on his neck. I guess it all added up.
“It’s not me. This damn thing prevents me from killing anyone. I turned it around, I swear. “ He attempted to assure me, my look of disbelief not pleasing him. “I am sorry for using you. You seemed so lost and I was lost by the propaganda they were spreading. The church today is much more honest. I can be a pair of ears for you. Will that help you out?” The church bell rang, the wood quaking underneath my boots, his eyes allowing me to peer into his soul. The white aura was enough to convince me, my hand touching his.
“Besides the killing, you did everything right.” I admitted sheepishly, allowing him to smile subtly. “You found me after one of my bloody massacres and still hid me from the church.” Snow drifted aimlessly, his palm catching a couple of snowflakes. Watching them melt in his palms, he turned to me.
“Do you remember when I found you? Ruby painted the snow but you looked at me with the biggest plea for help. You were but a ten year old child with fangs in my eyes.” He commented in a fatherly tone, both us leaning back to watch the snow fall. Resting our hands on our flat stomachs, he let out a soft chuckle
“I am surprised you helped me after finding out I was the daughter of the first vampire.” I laughed gently, his hand reaching for mine. “I got married yesterday. I am sorry that I went to prison. I must have disappointed you with that tidbit.” Taking my hand, he examined the ring. Snapping his fingers, we were back at the grocery store. Dropping a card into my palm, he shoved his hands into his pocket.
“I came to seek you out. The killer is among your little area I call Hell. Good luck with that marriage.” He called out as he walked to a waiting car, Stanton coming out with a bag of groceries. Peeking into the bag, it was two bags of coffee. Providing the perfect distraction, the contacts amusing me.
“It really looks like we eat.” I joked tenderly, nudging his shoulder. “Can we go home now?” Winking in my direction, his arm curled around my waist. Flipping me the invitation, his next words pissed me off.
“You are going to that book club tomorrow. Play nice and try not to stand out too much. The trick to winning Susie over is through the love of reading. As I recall, you had a cell full of the latest books.” He ordered sharply, rubbing his chin. “I know you read them all. Can you handle that tomorrow?” Whispering something in his ears, a devilish grin spread cheek to cheek.
