2023.03.27 02:10 jemulqueen65 I am still dumbfounded by bad trip and want to know if anyone has had similar experiences
(Wouldnt let me tag it lsd) May 7th of 2021 i am 16 years old at the time(18 now), Me and my best friend are taking a trip to his fathers house in Pennsylvania. We are both planning on taking a tab of acid once we arrive but i cant wait and take half a tab right before we arrive. (i doubt this had much significance in what played out) me and my freind both take one at the same time after arrival while theres still sunlight, im assuming around 7-7:30 pm. Just looking outside around at trees in the woods having a nice time, later go inside and had planned to watch spirited away which we both have never seen. We watch for a couple minutes in, all i really remembered of the movie is the beginning animation looked like everything was drawn with 2-3 separate lines instead of one which i dont know if thats how it was originally animated or if i was starting to get extreme visuals, my friend goes out to pee and when he comes out im staring up at him with a look of absolute panic. Seconds before i was texting my long distance gf with bpd (great combination i know) and she had sent me a image over text of her holding up a limp leg with red stained on her hands from dyeing her hair. My immediate thought was she had killed somebody or somebody had killed her and sent me a picture, dont know why but it was the first thoughts i had, i instantly i spammed her with texts and calls asking if shes alright but didnt get a response for 4-5 minutes. My now walks out and asks if im alright, i responded i dont know yet due to no response from gf. I get a response along the lines of “yea im fine why tf wouldnt i be?” Then im immediately filled with a feeling of stupidity. We text for a few and shes not taking me as serious as she should have been at the time but eventually i go back to watching the movie with zero awareness im having a bad trip at this point. Last scene i remember the girl in the movie is in a garden with hedges and meets a boy, after that i kinda close my eyes and go off to a state of blacking out over and over , apparently i was talking in my blackout but i was not aware, my friend claims i was asking the time repeatedly, but all i remembered was him standing infront of me on the couch telling me “its 10:36” “its 10:39” ect… this freaked me out because i dont remember asking the time when i was blacked out, so the next time im conscious and see him i firmly tell him “i know what time it is” which kinda broke the loop i was in but i immediately had another thought loop which i dont remember a single thing i was thinking. This next blackout i had was extremely different, i didnt say anything to my friend as i dazed off at a bookshelf thinking to myself “im dying” i remember this state, its like i wasnt even in the room, like every word from the television was deconstructed into its most simple meaning. I was simply too overwhelmed to even think about speaking or moving, i think to myself its a shame my friend here has to deal with seeing my lifeless body soon and how disappointed my family would be in me from dying while off acid, then everything went black. I have no senses at all at this point besides the ability to receive information, i cannot even think my own thoughts. I wake up to my friend now making me aware of the situation and telling me i was having a bad trip. He finally asks whats going on/ what im thinking about. The best 2 things that described the information i got were “2000 years” and “8ths” now this made my friend and even me confused as fuck lol, but i personally feel that when i was blacked out thinking i died i had received some form of “divine information” as for soon later i learned 8ths are significant i light and sound frequencies, like how the musical scale goes “A B C D E F G A” 8 notes to make it to the next octave. Ive also heard ego death gives you information you cant take back fully to the material world only in slight bits and pieces but enough info to send you down the rabbit hole. Ive only told a few people about this, but i wanna know what you guys think as for +95% of this sub is open to “spiritual” though of trips rather than the non spiritual ppl ive told this story to.

2023.03.27 01:50 MagentaTabby What rides can a 8mo to 1 year old child get on?
Hello, before anyone says "arghhh why you taking a baby there? They too little! They won't remember anything!" I know. I want to plan ahead as I wait to get the Magic Keys again soon (whenever they come out) and I want to plan ahead as in what rides can I put the kiddo on my lap? I know my baby won't remember anything but I will take pictures and such.
I googled and I saw mixed answers such as the kiddo can go on certain rides but then I get "no you cannot bring them on the rides". So yeah it gets confusing. Currently my baby can sit but I believe he needs to be on my lap 90% of thentime we are there. Can he ride on my lap in rides like haunted mansion or little mermaid? Since they use bars and not seat belts? What about rides that require seat belts?
Thank you!

2023.03.27 01:45 Ok-Celebration4596 I'm afraid to sleep.
I know in my heart I have to. But I'm scared.
I can't close my eyes without my thoughts spiraling, the fear inside consuming me. I have to go to school tomorrow. I need to sleep. But I'm so afraid.
The moment I close my eyes my mind goes on a tangent. How can I tell that all of this isn't just some twisted dream? How can I be sure the universe won't disappear if I'm not there to keep an eye on it? My existential anxiety is back. It's just a whole loop of existence in my head.
I'm afraid of the silence. I'm afraid of the dark. But most importantly I'm afraid of being alone. I mean I have no way of proving anything or anyone is real anyway. And I'm scared. I'm really scared. I usually imagine someone next to me, just talking to me. But that isn't working anymore. Neither is my music. All I can think about is how scared I am. I'm so fucking scared.
I don't even know half of the reasons why I'm scared. I just can't keep my eyes closed without the dread in the pit of my stomach rising to my brain, causing me to shiver. I'm scared.

2023.03.27 01:24 tarvolon Tarvolon Reads a Magazine (or Three): Reviews of Clarkesworld, GigaNotoSaurus, and F&SF (March 2023)
In January, I started a new series, which I hope to continue all year, in which I read and review sci-fi/fantasy magazines. I’ve settled on three publications to follow this year: my two favorites from 2022 and a third that has been a titan of the genre for decades. I’ve yet to have a month without at least three stories I really loved among these three publications, and March was no different. So let’s get to it.
Clarkesworld
In my eyes, the March issue of Clarkesworld was something close to their median issue: one story I loved, a bunch of stories I liked, and one story that didn’t totally click for me. Issues like this don’t have me struggling to pick a favorite, but with so much to like, they’re exactly the sort of months that keep me a loyal reader. And I suppose it doesn’t hurt that my favorite story in the March issue was my favorite Clarkesworld piece of the first quarter of 2023.
The opening piece,
Love in the Season of New Dance by Bo Balder, promised just the kind of alien communication story that I usually love. But while the lead’s cicada-like interlocutor’s obsession with completing the mating ritual before death may be realistic, it wasn’t necessarily the storyline I was hoping for. In fairness, I’m not sure the lead was hoping for it either, and there’s an interesting story to be found in her trying to make the best of an observation much more intimate than expected, but I nevertheless found it difficult to connect.
Angela Liu’s
Pinocchio Photography blends the story of a college student trying to choose a career—amidst both social and parental pressures—with an exploration of pictures and memory. They come together in the form of a job photographing reanimated cadavers participating in those family moments they no longer lived to see. The narrative was enough to hold my interest, but it was the fascinating discussion of family and benevolent fictions that really made it worth the read.
Fiona Moore’s
The Spoil Heap is an excellent tale of a former coder finding a robot on a trash heap after a technological apocalypse sent society back decades. Extensive flashbacks establish the character’s pre-apocalyptic life, informing both the catastrophe itself and the lead’s response to her present-day find. Probably not a story that will shock veteran readers, but it’s well-executed and a lot of fun.
The issue’s sole novelette, Shari Paul’s
Bek, Ascendent, tells the story of a woman who until recently thought herself the lone survivor of her people’s destruction being sent to support their resettlement and finding herself thrown in with old friends and old enemies. It’s a short novelette that neither surprises with the twists nor fully explores all the nuances of the sprawling empire taking charge of smaller people groups recovering from disaster—though it does gesture at more going on under the surface—but it’s a plenty engaging read nonetheless.
Shih-Li Kow’s
Failure to Convert takes up the story of clones who must jump through hoop after hoop after hoop to earn the recognition of legal personhood, in a society becoming increasingly prejudiced against them. It’s a well-written and often chilling piece that offers more questions than answers.
My favorite piece in my issue, and my favorite Clarkesworld piece of the year so far, came from an outstanding new writer who appeared thrice on my
2022 favorites list and is already starting on 2023. Isabel J. Kim’s
Zeta-Epsilon is a heartfelt piece about a man raised from birth to provide a human bridge to the ineffable mind of a starship. It opens with a puzzle box—why did Zeta commit suicide, and why didn’t Epsilon prevent it?—before diving into Zeta’s childhood, his intense connection with the ship, and the aspects of his life that became untenable. It’s a fascinating story with emotional depth and even a pinch of humor. This one is the whole package.
After the intensity of “Zeta-Epsilon,” the next story continues the AI theme with a little more levity. Louise Hughes’
AI Aboard the Golden Parrot tells of a sentient theme park pirate ship that has taken to the seas collecting robot castaways. There’s still some tension in their mission to rescue imprisoned drones, and the details turn into a bit of a whirlwind at time, but it’s a fun read all told.
The fiction section of the March issue closes with perhaps the most mind-bending piece in the set,
Love is a Process of Unbecoming by Jonathan Kincade. The dreamlike narrative is told mostly from the perspective of an organism that has infected and perhaps possessed the human who would ordinarily be considered the main character. It starts as a tense survival story from an upside-down angle, with the perspective then widening to glimpse the family struggles that have led to the story’s main action. Utterly disorienting but skillfully told, I suspect this story would reward a second read.
March’s non-fiction section opens with a dive into the parallels between certain real-world plants and famous fiction landscapes, such as The Book of Koli, Annihilation, and Semiosis. The two interviews are with Nadia Afifi and the people behind Galactic Journey—a fanzine I’d heard of but didn’t know much about. I have to say, I love their concept, and I also love a pair of R.A. Lafferty stories appearing as honorable mentions on their 1960s Best of the Year posts.
Finally, Neil Clarke closes with an editorial on the difficulty of surviving as a genre magazine—particularly in light of Amazon’s decision to end their subscription program—and the decisions Clarkesworld is making in an effort to move forward as sustainably as possible.
GigaNotoSaurus
GigaNotoSaurus rings in the month with what will be among their shortest pieces of the year,
Once Measured, Twice Cut by Anna Martino, in which a half-human pharmacist in post-war England does his best to help both his human and his secret winged patients. It’s easy to read and immensely satisfying for readers who enjoy fantasy healers just trying to help people. Perhaps it all comes together a hair too neatly, but I was still happy to read it.
Fantasy & Science Fiction
After the January/February issue overwhelmed me with extended pieces tied to existing SFF universes, the March/April issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction was a breath of fresh air. The sixteen stories included just two novelettes and no novellas, and while a couple were situated within existing mythologies, this didn’t provide a true barrier to entry.
Let’s start with the pair of excellent novelettes, both of which brought their fair share of whimsy. Peter S. Beagle’s
The Weremouse of Millicent Bradley Middle School has something of the flavor of an urban legend becoming all too real, with a witchy and vindictive math teacher terrorizing her students, who must either grovel or find a way to fight back. Sometimes a story just doesn’t have to break new ground to be an utter delight. Also delightful is Eleanor Arnason’s
Mr. Catt, telling of the adventures of a six-foot, bipedal feline—in a world mostly consisting of ordinary humans, mind you—who decides on a whim to acquire a dragon. As you might imagine, things don’t go quite as expected, but they go wrong in an extremely entertaining way.
Circling back to the start of the issue, we find two short stories by authors I’d enjoyed immensely in longform and was excited to see here. Lavie Tidhar’s
The Station Master offers an entertaining bit of slice-of-life in his Central Station universe, whereas Tade Thompson’s
The Sweet in the Empty provides a heart-pounding tale of family and revenge in a fantastical long-ago Arabia. I’m not usually a reader of sword-and-sorcery, but I expect those who are will like this one even more than I did—which was quite a bit!
Continuing the theme of classic fantasy stories well-executed is Jonathan Louis Duckworth’s
Spookman, the story of a man who can see spirits of the dead on a mission to find a runaway in a haunted forest. A fun read with an eminently satisfying conclusion.
Switching from fantasy to sci-fi, we find my favorite short story in the issue: M.H. Ayinde’s
Piggyback Girl. The Black Mirror-like premise involves an influencer signing a contract allowing her followers to literally see through her eyes. The piece does demand that readers overlook the utter lack of genre-savvy by the lead character, but the sheer intensity of what comes afterward makes up for the credulity in signing the initial contract. The social commentary is on point, and the rising panic as the lead begins to see the walls rising on all sides makes for a truly gripping read.
The latter half of the issue didn’t blow me away quite like the first half, but I still found a lot to enjoy. There were a pair of looping, twisting sci-fi tales that have both reader and characters questioning what’s real. Matthew Lebowitz’s
Ouroboros—about a scientist researching technology that can bring dreams to life—was a particular favorite, and Marlon Ortiz’s
Mnemonic Longings was a solid tale of a sentient spaceship processing its relationship with the only human to survive a devastating extraterrestrial conflict.
Moonlight, Wing-Wake in Fog by Rick Hollon literalizes the concept of masking one’s true self from the world, telling of a group of shapeshifters trying to keep themselves safe from implacable colonizers bent on their destruction. It’s followed by Nuzo Onoh’s “The Madding,” which should appeal to readers who like some African folklore in their horror.
Amanda Dier’s
Escape Velocity is a small-scale, personal tale about the transformations one undergoes while chasing their dreams, and how they live with those transformations. It’s followed by Lauren Bajek’s prose poem
Pantoum on a Generation Ship, a flash piece whose title is a wonderfully clever play on the ultimate story. I have seen other reviewers marvel at the story for following the stringent repetition structure of the Pantoum style of poetry, but as someone unfamiliar with the form, the specifics passed me by. Still, a piece well worth reading!
Marie Vibbert’s
The Subway Algorithm is Half-Constructed follows grad students talking about AI projects, but it’s much more a story of learning how to interact with other people—a subject in which every major character has their own struggles. K.C. Ahia’s
Solar Boy also follows a lead with a fresh STEM degree, this time an engineer scrabbling for one of the scarce jobs working on spaceships. It’s not a hard read, but it’s simultaneously a story of trans belonging, a problem-solving sci-fi, and a story of intrigue and betrayal. For a piece as short as it is, it felt to me a hair overstuffed, and I would’ve appreciated just one or two of those elements having more time to breathe.
The issue closes with a pair of fun mythopoetic stories. Kathleen Jennings’
The Five Lazy Sisters is a fairy tale about…well, five lazy sisters looking for a way out of running a ferry for their whole lives. Then E. Catherine Tobler caps the issue with
Remembered Salt, about a bewitched house flying up from its forest home and seeking adventure and pieces of memory. For readers who enjoy short fairy tales without too much emotional intensity, it’s an excellent pair to finish the issue.
As always, F&SF also has poetry and reviews, and this month had a fascinating dive by Arley Song into beloved genre magazines throughout history and what became of them. It’s a good read on its own and dovetails especially nicely with Clarke’s editorial.
March Favorites
- “Piggyback Girl” by M. H. Ayinde (short story, F&SF)
- “The Weremouse of Millicent Bradley Middle School” by Peter S. Beagle (novelette, F&SF)

2023.03.27 01:18 Shoku777 [iMac g3] [90s-2000s] a point and click game with a mouse
Hello! Since a few weeks now I’m being nostalgic about a few games I’ve played on an iMac g3 when i was in elementary school, I was able to find one but I’m still looking for the others, the game was a point and click with a white mouse as the main character, the mouse wore pink clothes I think, the designs were drawings like you played in a cartoon and the game was made for kids, I can’t really remember much more it was very long ago. Also I don’t know if it can help but on the computers I can remember 2 games that were installed beside of the one I’m looking for, there was a weird game in a haunted mansion (also a point and click), and another game called bugdom (kind of famous I think). Thanks for your help!

2023.03.27 01:06 4ShotBot My Roommate is Slenderman: Part 22 (Act 3)
Part 21:
https://www.reddit.com/Viidith22/comments/11jmouq/my_roommate_is_slenderman_part_21_act_3/ I raised an unsteady hand, then put it down, “I’m sorry, I’m still not sure what it is I’d even be agreeing to. What’s going on in there?”
“About half of everyone who knows what’s going on in Tenyit Lane is in there.”
“So government conspiracy theories? I think I’d like to go home.”
“You have to know what’s going on, he kidnapped you too, you must’ve seen what I had on that computer.”
“No, I–” My mind flashed back to that morning, I’d woken up, seen the laptop open, no file transfer notification, “I mean, maybe, but I was too drunk to remember anything I read.”
“Darren wouldn’t have known that though. Just come in, we have evidence I’m not bullshitting. I mean, look at you, 30 minutes ago, you ate that asshole’s arm, you killed a man, and look at you. So just give it a chance, maybe I’m right, maybe shit around here is off, maybe, just maybe, the government is keeping a close eye on all of us for some crazy reason.” He pulled a necklace from under his shirt, “See how this crystal glows?”
“I’ll grant you your other points, but if you’re trying to tell me something that could have an LED in it is magic, buddy you are not preaching to the right choir.”
“Here,” He pulled it off his neck, unwrapped the twine, and handed me the bare crystal, “Look at it closely, as it’s sitting in your hand, just look at it.”
Rolling my eyes, I humored him. But, there was nothing there, looking into the glowing blue crystal was akin to looking at scuffed glass. I could see my hand straight through the entire gem, “Weir-”
“Now, close your eyes, and focus on your hand.”
I turned to face him, chin down, eyebrow raised, “You did not just ask me to do that.”
“No, seriously, just do it. If nothing happens, I’ll take you home. But, if you do feel it, you have to agree to join us.”
I gazed out in front of us, staring at the ten-foot concrete wall, “Okay.” I faced him, “If I feel anything, I’ll come in.”
He looked excited for a moment, before catching on, sighing, “Alright, that’ll have to do, but you have to stay and talk with a couple people at least.”
I took my turn to sigh, “Fine.” Closing my eyes, I focused on my hand, only a few seconds passed before I noticed it. It felt like something was taking up the empty space inside the atoms that made up who I was. Like the emptiness between the electrons and the nuclei was being filled. But as I focused more, a new sensation came through, like a magnet, the energy was being pushed away from something inside of me. Like an immune system fighting off a disease, the energy was halted, and whatever was inside me grew more aggressive.
I dropped it, my eyes sprung open, and I threw the door off its hinges, wanting, needing to get away from it. I shook my body, rubbed my face, and silently cursed to myself as I stamped in circles, trying as hard as I could to forget the maddening sensation.
I heard something from Scott’s direction, “WHAT!”
I finally stopped, staring at him as he spoke, “Just come inside with me, it’ll all make sense, it must’ve rejected you or something.”
“OR SOMETHING!? Oh that’s rich! You think I’m going to follow you in after!..” I took a breath, trying to think, “Whatever the FUCK that was!?”
His face lost all emotion, “YES GODDAMNIT! You said you would! Now you’re going to follow me inside, and we’re going to discuss everything! Do I make myself clear!?”
“The fuck we are!”
He made his way over to me, “Jesus Christ! Despite EVERYTHING, we couldn’t be more different!” He calmed, putting his hands on my shoulders, “Now, we’re gonna go in there, have a talk with the others, and you’ll understand everything. Do you hear me?” He stared uncomfortably into my eyes.
Despite his serious expression, his eyes were flat, like a dead fish. Yet, there was something relaxing in them, “Yeah, I uh… sure. Let’s have a talk, I agreed to it and all.” Following behind him, we made our way into a house, then down a set of stairs to the basement, which is where he pushed a tool cabinet aside, and we made our way down a set of stairs.
“How lo–”
“Let’s just make it down, then you can ask.”
About 10 steps down, I could hear the sound of laughter, before we eventually made it to an underground mancave. It had to be a good 20-30 feet below the road.
A couple of people went quiet as we reached the bottom, where ten or so people were gathered. An older woman made her way to us, the second person being a younger man, a mid-20s artistic type. He probably listened to The Beatles, and turned on Beethoven when his friends got in the car for the sake of it.
“Welcome Joseph, seems you’re new to town, and already sticking your nose in all sorts of government secrets. They sure have been slacking.”
“What the hell was on Scott’s laptop?”
A couple of seats scooted, and a few more voices went low, “Scott? You had unencrypted data on your computer?”
“He brought it to my, or Darren’s computer shop, when he was erm… still alive.”
The 20 something was about to say something when the woman’s tone quieted, approaching a whisper, “Allow me to get this straight Scott, you not only had freely accessible data on your computer, highly incriminating data that could rat all of us out, you also took it to a computer shop. It would be greatly appreciated if you could explain every little detail involving that.” She gripped one of his shoulders, and I could see the pain grow on his face. Then, she turned to me, smiling, “As for you, I need you to tell Brandon here everything that happened at, wherever you two came from. Don’t miss any details, we haven’t seen Scott in a couple of days, and everything around here goes by word of mouth.” She waved me off Scott following behind.
“Alright, let’s hit the bar, you can tell me everything there.” His voice sauntered as he pointed his thumb to an indent in the concrete wall to the right.
“God, that sounds amazing.”
-----------------------------------------------------
“Really? That’s everything that brought you two here?”
“Yeah.” I said, finishing off my second pint of whiskey, “Guess it kind of explains why I can drink so much, but I’m still iffy. What do you think?” Without hesitation, he grabbed my arm and sliced a bit of skin off my forearm. I shot it back, “Hey! What the FUCK!”
“Pull your arm back out, let’s have a look.”
I eyed him, putting my arm out in front of me, “So wha-” as I stared at my arm, I hesitated. It was already clotted and scabbed over. Which reminded me of the hole that’d been stabbed into me. I pulled my shirt up, seeing there was only a tiny scab left, and there was already extensive scarring around it. “I-I need to sit down.”
“You uh, you already are.”
“Then I need to lay down.” I stood, hyperventilating.
He slowly helped me to a couch, asking a little too politely for everyone to get out of the way, then leaning me down.
As my head hit the arm-rest, my brain pounded like I stood up too fast with a caffeine headache after a bender. My vision blurred and the room was too bright. All of the days events played on a loop, running through my mind at the speed of sound, only stopping momentarily to focus on the most traumatic events.
Eventually, my breathing slowed, my vision cleared, and my mind became more tolerable. “I-I need to l-leave. I don’t belong here. I need to go back to my life. I have to–”
“Didn’t you just ea– or ki… Isn’t your boss dead now?”
“I… need to get back home. This isn’t where I should be. I need to get back to Te…” My mind was struggling to latch onto something. Something familiar, yet completely foreign, like a language you’ve heard of but never learned. “I need to leave this place.”
“Hey, is he alright?” I heard Scott ask.
I rolled to my left side as much as I could to look at him, “What do you think?” Right as he went to open his mouth, “I want you to take me home, right now. I came in like I said I would, but this place, I just… I can’t. I’m sure I might help at some capacity, but honestly, I don’t want any part in what you guys are doing. There’s nothing for me here.”
He glanced at Brandon, who took him aside. A couple minutes later, he came back, “Look, we can’t have you leave just yet. There’s too much we’d be risking. So we need to ensure you won’t tell anyone.”
“So what, you’re gonna bug my phone and shit?”
“Actually, we’re going to rewrite your memories of getting here. As well as my name. Everyone else here uses an alias, but, well, you’re gonna forget my real name so it doesn’t matter too much.”
“Is it safe?”
“Well, you’ve already been through a similar process a few times, you should be fine.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
His eyelids flattened, “Just follow me.”
My memories around that point in time get distorted. I remember someone sitting me in a chair, then them holding my head between their hands, and in the moment I forgot Scott’s name as well as a few other details. Then I was blindfolded, and ended up at my house. At the time it felt like I’d just been on a long drive after the whole Darren situation.
I wanted to drink, I wanted to simply stop existing, I wanted everything to end. The next couple hours are still a haze, though I presume it was mainly due to the alcohol consumption as opposed to anything else. However, one aspect of that day/night has stuck with me, parts of it haunt my dreams, other parts relieve me to this day, and I honestly can’t say whether or not I’m glad I made the decision. But no matter how much I think on it, I can’t take it back. It was something about sitting on the couch, then I set the bottles on the coffee table. Then I was in the kitchen holding the business card with a D on it. I think it was shortly after that when I grabbed the bag from my junk drawer and downed the whole bag of mushrooms.
I remember after 20 minutes or so a strange sense of anxiety washed over me, and my stomach twisted. I stumbled my way to the bathroom, convinced the shitty whiskey was finally getting to me. I laid in front of the toilet for a good while, waiting for something to come up, when my vision grew wavy, then a crash of euphoria hit me and I started giggling. Feeling better, I headed to the couch to throw something on.
A short while later, a new wave slammed into me and I couldn’t see anything I was looking at anymore. Tears streamed down my face as kaleidoscopes twisted in my eyes. The swirling color took on a life of its own as it no longer had regard for spacetime. I could suddenly feel each eternity between the seconds of reality. My brain was working at the pace of a supercomputer, causing me to age a millenia a minute. My mind was malleable, reforming lost neural connections, and I could feel each fiber reconnect, causing lost memories to surge their way through my mindseye. My body was fused with the couch, all I could do was sit and experience. My mind was suddenly just that, floating consciousness in a vibrant void, and even my brain was simply along for the ride, running calculation after calculation with no regard for my conscious self. I was no longer crying, but the universe was, even the universe was simply another piece of a much grander design, simply an electron in the atom that was our multiverse.
For a few minutes, my eyes were able to focus again, I could process my surroundings with minimal distortion. Patting my face, I felt water still pouring from my eyes. I wiped it away with my shirt, then grabbed a blanket and pillow from my room, laid on the couch, and went back to the show. But before I could focus on the screen, my brain leapt forward, crashing hard into a tidal wave of emotion and colors.
Once again, I was no longer me, but simply a bundle of chemistry and experiences. While no definitive memories resurface, I recalled clumps, as if I’d dropped too much flour into my soup at once. Terry, Jane, a murder, Maerod, 7/11, seemingly random details broke surface tension, revealing a broad variety of emotions, agony, hope, loss, rage. I could only feel my vocal chords giving way, but no sounds made it to my ears, because they no longer existed in that moment. I had no control over it, and in that moment the truth dropped out of the sky, splattering my sense of self. “I” was simply a construct that no longer held weight to my brain. It was going to do its thing, the mind has already made its decision before the conscious self has allowed it to surface. The subconscious influences the conscious, while the conscious can choose to focus on something, the subconscious is what’s really pulling the strings, which–
Before I could finish the thought, the water gave out from under me, and I was suddenly drowning. All coherent thought had left me, nothing but pure emotions left, I think I screamed as I cried, but I still couldn’t hear anything. Despite that, an added shakiness came to my twisting vision periodically.
I’m not sure when I resurfaced, the coming hangover coupled with how mentally checked out I was by the end of the trip made it hard to tell. But I did eventually wake up, suffice it to say, my pillow was drenched, and I had to get a new couch.
I threw my pillow, blanket, and clothes in the wash after coming to. I felt hollow, not quite empty as emptiness implies a feeling of something that’s supposed to be there being gone. But that wasn’t it, hollow as if that’s how it was supposed to be.
I sat in the shower as it rained over me. I scrubbed slowly, trying to get the smell of piss out of my skin. I couldn’t believe myself.
After my shower of shame, I got dressed. As I left the bathroom, I did it again, “Hey Terry–” Which jogged loose a compilation of memories. My mindseye was flooded with experiences in a shabby apartment. Watching anime with a distorted fragment of a person. Cooking as two familiar voices discussed something. Then the big one came, the first time he revealed himself to me. The memory was blurred, like a moving analog camera, but the emotions were strong.
I stumbled my way to the living room, sitting on the floor beside the coffee table. As the memories faded back into being just that, I glanced to my left, noticing that strange card with the D on it. I grabbed it, flipping the card in my hand several times, then bit my lip, glancing to my right at the office door. I wanted to gain access to whatever private data the town had on me. But I knew they wouldn’t keep it online, too easy for the wrong person to snag it.
They might keep it on paper, but I can’t just ask for something like that. Clearly I’m not supposed to have any memories. So where can I go that’ll have the data I need? I dwelled on the thought for a moment, then,
It might be a long shot, but if Darren… I shivered.
If Darren left the laptop at the shop, I might have a chance. Whatever was on there was bad enough he was willing to kill me. Which means… I sighed in disdain,
I have to see ‘him’ after I’m done. I didn’t know where ‘he’ lived, but if I was lucky, there was a chance I could find some residual gps data when I got a hold of one of the laptops.
Grabbing a hoodie, I made my way out the door, heading out on foot due to the snow that had accumulated.
When I got there a few minutes later, the door was locked. Then I remembered how I’d gotten in just a couple days prior. Grabbing the bottom of the single window sill, I yanked up as hard as I could, hoping to break it free of the ice. Something definitely broke, but it was a more metallic sound than I’d expected. Quickly climbing through, I saw the lock had bent and tore the screws out of the window. The clanging had come from the lock piece dropping to the ground.
Shaking my head, I made my way to the desk the laptops had been. But unfortunately, they were already gone. I kicked a chair, wanting to get more pissed at the situation, but the emotional impact from the night before wouldn’t allow it. I searched each cabinet, hoping to come across anything that could point me in the right direction. Unfortunately, he hadn’t left a trace, so I hopped back out the window to try and think something else up.
If the drive from his house to one of the walls was about 15 minutes or so, and the drive from there to my house was about 10… My thoughts trailed off,
Weren’t they supposed to warp my memory? Could it be the same thing as earlier? I shook it off, trying to focus,
So, about 10 minutes from my house to a wall, which means... I glanced back at the shop, taking in the large concrete construct behind it for seemingly the first time. Then, I glanced down my right side at the “entrance” to town only a few blocks away, right past the bar. Trying to focus my mind, I pieced together a mental list of houses that could fit the parameters I had. In doing so, I came up with a list of four different streets, then I headed back home, threw some chains on my car, and left for the first street.
--------------------
By the third street, I started to get nervous. I thought my short look at it while leaving wasn’t enough to go off of, or that they might’ve warped my memories of the place. Or even if I found the place, the murders had already been reported. But by the time I got to the end of that street, I found the house I was looking for. It looked untouched, so I parked and went up to the door. Opening the door caused a memory to overtake me. I saw Jane, her body just laying there, head missing, cold blood pooled into a murky puddle of depression. As it passed, despite the nausea that followed the memory, everything in the house was clean. The house smelled like pine and gingerbread. Whoever had cleaned the place didn’t matter, I ran through the house searching for one of the laptops.
It took some time, but I eventually found it in his locked dresser. Running downstairs, I bolted out the door just for the ground to disappear, and suddenly, the gray sky was in front of me. The laptop slid from my fingers just before my head made contact with the doorframe, nearly knocking me out. I staggered to my feet, being cautious to not slip on the ice under the snow. Looking around, there was a small indent in the field of white. Walking over to it, I picked it back up, flipping the computer open, thankful to see it was still alive.
Sliding it under the cushion of my back seat, I got in my car, and was just about to turn the key when a sudden knocking at a window nearly gave me a heart attack. I turned the ignition, rolling the window down. Looking over at the man at the passenger side window, I couldn’t help but feel my heart drop. He looked serious, like a business man out on duty… in the snow.
“Can I help you? Erm…”
“The name’s Donavan, and I believe that depends entirely on whether or not you could answer a few of my questions.”
I blew out my nose, “I uh, no, not particularly, I’ve–”
“Got somewhere to be? I’m sure you do, and so do I. May I?” He gestured to the door handle.
“I’m sure I don’t want anything you’re selling, so may I go.”
He pulled out his phone, scrolling while he talked, “Unless you’d like me showing this to the police, I think it’d be mutually beneficial if you allowed me into your vehicle while we had our discussion. Wouldn’t you agree?” He flipped the phone, showing me a short video compilation of me eating Darren, as well as killing one of the other guys.
Despite my desire to get as far away from the man as possible, I unlocked the door, “Sure, get in, dickswab.”
----------------------
“Now then, might you be able to explain something that’s been itching at the back of my mind?”
“Please my good sir, there is no such need to display your extended understanding of the English lexicon in such a manner.”
“The least you could do is take me the slightest bit seriously.”
“Look man, you blackmailed me into letting you into my car, I’m sorry if I’m not ‘like, so totally stoked’ to talk right now.” I turned right, he’d instructed me to just go around the same few blocks until we were done.
“Alright then, who gave you this?”
I glanced over, seeing the card with the italicized D on it, “Ah, I see, you broke into my house. Pretty sure that’s a crime.”
He looked down his nose at me, I could almost see his imaginary glasses slide down a bit, “Just answer the question.”
“It came with a small package. I wasn’t even home when it was dropped off.”
“Is this the one to which you’re referring?” He held the small brown package with no label, along with the small bag that I’d so recently… emptied the contents of,
“I think what’s going on here is pretty obvious.”
“Do you?”
“I’m really not part of any one of the “third parties,” this town seems to love hosting. I’m just trying to figure out why everyone seems to have it out for me.” Remembering Scott, I glanced in the rearview mirror, wanting to get to whatever secrets that laptop held.
He also glanced in the rearview mirror, but I got the sense it was for another reason, “You know, it’s difficult to add something to a machine that’s already running. You can’t just cut a live wire when you need to add a new resistor. You can’t throw a turbo in a car while it’s on. You can’t swap a normal trigger for a hair trigger while shooting the gun. You gotta set it down, make sure everything’s stopped and cool, then you can go in and meticulously add or replace a part to whatever needs it. But the thing about new parts is, you can’t immediately leave them be, you gotta keep an eye on them, make sure they aren’t faulty. Even if you have a manufacturer’s guarantee, sometimes you get a bad part.”
“Aaaaand.”
“Well, as it turns out, that’s exactly what we have. But when a replaced part is internal, and you don’t have a check engine light, well you have to rely on the effects of the engine as a whole. See, if anything has gone wrong since you added the new part. Well, you know what happens when it’s discovered a part is faulty I’m sure.”
“Sooooo…”
“So, that car you noticed a little while back, that’s why it’s following us. The effects are starting to show.” I checked the rearview mirror again, sure enough, there was a car following us, a black two door with tinted windows and a glossy finish, “Which brings me back to this card, I’m a reasonable man, if you tell me who gave you this card, I’m willing to help push this
ahem side effect, under the rug.”
“Listen, I really don’t know. I was telling you the truth.” I hesitated, thinking it over, “But, if you, ‘push it under the rug,’ as you so delicately put it, I can help you find whoever sent me the package. Deal?”
“And what cards are you willing to show me to nudge me along?”
“He sent me a package once, clearly he has contacts here given the lack of any shipping details. Which says he must also know the me from yestermonth. If he has personal ties to me, there must be a way for me to lure him out.”
He smirked, “You’d really screw over the person that resurfaced your memories?”
“Anyone who has people here but refuses to save me isn’t really worth getting killed over.”
He stared at me for the rest of the block, then glanced the rearview mirror, “Well damn, I suppose I can’t argue that logic.” He pulled out a pen and small piece of paper, scribbled something down, then, “You can pull over here.” We’d reached the front of the house we started our ride in front of, “Here, call me if you get any leads, we’ll do our part to keep things under wraps.” He stopped halfway out the door, “And hey, if you do your part well enough, you might even be allowed deeper in the engine.” Then he was off, calling someone as he walked down the street.
“Yeah, whatever metaphor-man.” I crumbled up the paper and tossed it in the back, driving home in silence to finally get into what the hell was going on.
Part 23: Coming (relatively) soon.

2023.03.27 01:02 ItsSnoky 25 [M4F] UK/Europe - Looking for the one to get to know and muh more.
Introduction
Well hello there! (General Kenobi!). I'm Snoky also known as
you'll find out when we get to know eachother I’m a 25 year old English/Norwegian guy from the U of K! I currently work in the IT Sector within the Local Government and my god I forgot how hectic the public sector was after i left it roughly 4 years ago. I did indeed have quite a shock coming back 😅
Apperance
I'm on the bigger side but am looking to get that changed with some help due to i'm not very happy with the way thing's are currently. Minus that I'm 6'1/6'2, depends on which doctor you ask! I have short-ish hair dark blonde hair? I think? I'm not very good with colors so you'll have to tell me whenever we decide to exchange pictures.
Which i will be more than happy to exchange later on once we get to know eachother!
Main Intrests/Hobbies
My main interests are either playing games with some friends on the PC, studying for future certifications and mainly what I do after work just kicking back and watching whatever random things I can find on YouTube (I aren’t a big TV person). I used to watch a lot of anime but I tend to drop out of it for a year and then I get back in to it then I lose interest again heh, it’s just a thing that I’ve been doing for years on end.
I am somewhat in to movies but I haven’t really properly watched any within the last year or so but if I was to give a rough genre, I’d say dark-ish movies with a grabbing story i.e. DC films and a here and there Marvel film (IW ftw!) I much more prefer it when the bad guy gets the upper hand and basically wins as close to that of Thanos basically.
My main music choices? Everywhere and everything. If my ears like it, then chances are I’ll most likely like it. I’d write down all the artists I follow right now but trust me it’d take too long to go over so it’d probs better to just share my Spotify playlist lmao. But to give a quick sum up I’d say its more around mixed genre, alt-rock basically.
I do also write my own stuff as well, but again like anime I do it for like 6 months then stop, then start a year later so eh it’s a pretty hit and miss hobby for me 😅
Future Prospects?
As mentioned in my apperance section i'm in the process of trying to get fit with weight loss as I’m not very happy with how I am at the moment especially when it comes to health after a incident a few years ago but that’s neither here nor the future as I’m looking to change it with the help of the NHS and people around me. I'd be more than happy to join forces together with someone who's trying to do the same thing!
I currently own my own company which is currently under going some development but hasn't actually started as of yet (still looking in that area) but it will get there at somepoint!
Alongside my own company I’m also undergoing a project with a close friend of mine that we’re trying to pursue which is actually happening alongside the org itself so it's all looping togetherslowly but surely.
What am i looking for?
I'm looking for someone who's intrested in getting to know eachother, someone who's got my back and i've got theres, someone i can well essentially "grow" with and get to know, someone who's willing to put the effort in to get to know me and vice versa.I'd like said person to be able to hold a convoersation with me as i've been in too many instances where it's all been one sided convos with me basically putting in more effort than the other person but alas that's neither here nor there and hopfully I'll maybe find the person who would share that equal effort with me. And trust me I've been ghosted loads of times to the point it's like "bruh, just why?" but anyway!
I'm open to long distant's so long as there's a goal to meet eachother in the somewhat near future!
No older than 27 please!
The End?
If you've made it this far after this somewhat long post then i must congradulate you!
I now have a small question for you to send me the answer too when you message me.
On what date and or month was a i born? I was born on the month of a certain red birthstone on a international memorial day p.s, if you don't get it it doesn't matter it's worth a try regardless If i don't respond instantly I'm most likely asleep so i'll respond as soon as i can within the morning!

2023.03.27 00:46 SupNYPark First Time Going To Disneyland For Just One Day
Hi All, I've been to Disneyland countless times but every visit was for 5 days and we stayed in the DL Hotel or GC Hotel.
This October will be my first visit post-Covid and it will be for one day only so I have some questions I need you all to help me with.
Info: I'm going with 4 other adults (most of whom have never been to the park so the pressure is on to get as much done as possible. We're getting park hoppers with Genie+ and plan to visit on a day that we believe will not be a Halloween night in the evening. We're doing this to save money on buying extra tickets and to maximize park hours from 8am to midnight.
- Is the following park plan feasible? You can see us starting at the back and working our way down and then over to DCA. Yes, mostly thrill rides and season-themed rides. Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistence Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Haunted Mansion Holiday Pirates Of The Caribbean Indiana Jones Adventure Mad Tea Party - Can be dropped if needed. Matterhorn Bobsleds Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy Star Tours Guardians Of The Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!/Monsters After Dark Radiator Springs Racers Incredicoaster Toy Story Midway Mania Grizzly River Run Fantasmic! - Can be dropped if needed.
- Genie+: Should each member of the party get this individually on their phone or is it best for one person to manage all members on one phone. Genie+ has me the most nervous as I was used to the Fast Pass ticket system and haven't used this before. Any help based on your experiences would be super appreciated.
Any info on the above two points would be great even if it means changing the order of the rides. Thanks in advance.

2023.03.27 00:28 Alarmed_Piano4775 Old games
trying to replay my old games in order. I didnt update to windows 10 when it first came out and was free because i didnt want to lose ability to play my old games (thought i tried some and couldn’t get to work on 10 but could on 7 so reverted) but now im still having trouble.
-I played secrets can kill (original) with no problem -had to switch to an older computer to get stay tuned for danger to install but then it played great - message in haunted mansion installs but wont open, says “unable to open cif/cal tree file -all data had been cleared” then "RUNTIME ERROR abnormal program termination" -when installing it went straight to and stayed at 14% until going to the finished page. -im using compatibility for win 98/me, tried saving to a folder on desktop, documents, program files, running as admin, changed to 16 bit color, changed to lower screen resolution
-treasure in royal tower downloaded and let me start playing but crashed as soon as i tried going down the main stairs. used elevator and spoke to dexter and lisa. tried going up stairs and crashed. went down stairs fine, spoke to jacques but crashed trying to go back up stairs from basement and elevator is broken so i cant seem to get around it this time. 😐
super bummed.

2023.03.27 00:01 GrimTurtle666 Sennheiser HD560s vs BeyerDynamic DT990 Pro (250ohm)
I've been going through a roulette of headphones since about November, and I think I've settled down to these two, and this will be a review/impressions/comparison of these two headphones, as they fill similar niches and it can be a bit hard to find a good all-in-one comparison - so this is an attempt to do just that.
Some background on me: I'm a guitarist (not pro or anything, just for fun), gamer, and long time music lover. There's music going through my brain in someway 8+ hours daily. I listen to genres of all kinds, but most recently it's been a lot of indie rock/folk/pop, hip hop, punk rock/emo rock, singer-songwriter.
Headphones/IEMs I've tested before in no particular order: Senn 598SR, DT 770 250ohm, Sundara, Salnotes Zero, Senn 58X Jubilee, IKKO OH10, Airpod Pro 2, DT990 250ohm, Senn HD560s, and a bunch of consumer stuff like Sony, Bose, Beats, and Skullcandy in my teen years. Currently in my possession: DT 770, Salnotes Zero (with spinfit tips), OH10 (trying to sell), Airpod pro 2, DT990, and 560s.
Here are the categories I'll be breaking this into: Build & Comfort, Bass, Mids, Treble, Detail, Dynamics, Instrument Separation, Soundstage and Imaging, and Final Verdict.
Both headphones were purchased on Amazon with the intention of sending one back. After tax the 990's were about $170, 560s about $160. Both were tested on both an iPhone 13 with Apple Dongle, and a Windows 11 PC with a Topping DX3 Pro+ (I'm considering a side grade to a FiiO K7, let me know your thoughts on this in the comments).
___
Build & Comfort
HD560s - All light, seemingly sturdy plastic, I think metal grills over the back of the earcup. The metal grill interestingly has rolled up edges where it meets the plastic housing, not entirely sure why it's like this, perhaps it does something to make the sound more 3d? Comfort on these is like coming home since I used the 598's for 4 years or so. Clamp is tight but not painful for me as someone with a bit of a larger head (I have the adjustment sliders clicked down 7 clicks I think). Pads are soft and breathable, headband is basically unnoticeable which is what I like in headband. My ears touch nothing inside the cup when placed properly. Sometimes my left ear touches the little triangle protrusion inside the cup, but I can move it around to where it's not touching. I have the 2023 revision so it's the shorter, straight cable. It's fine, not microphonic, doesn't kink up like the goddamn awful Sundara bullshit cable (it haunts me).
DT990 - Very similar to the 560s however the 990 certainly feels more professional. The only metal in the build afaik are the metal yokes that hold the earcups. Nice leather headband that's easily replaceable, non-detachable coiled cable (I love coiled cables but wish it were detachable), nice and big earcups with soft fluffy pads not unlike the 560s. My gripe with this design, however, is that sometimes my left ear touches the driver dampening on the inside of the earcup and I noticed my ears get noticeably warmer than the 560s after a few minutes. Not enough to be uncomfortable, but enough to notice. Either of these headphones you could throw at a wall and they'd probably be fine.
___
Bass
HD560s - the bass is fantastic. It's extremely linear and extends very deep. I tested the bass with tracks like Go Flex by Post Malone, XO TOUR LIFE by Lil Uzi Vert, and Black & White by Juice WRLD, as well with the tank battle scene in All Quiet On The Western Front (from when the officer tells the soldiers to march right up to when it cuts back to the negotiators at about the midpoint) but I'll touch more up on the movie testing with soundstage and dynamics. The bass quantity here isn't boosted at all. The 560s is an extremely balanced headphone with a nearly dead-flat tuning, with just a little extra spice in the treble. I'm not sure of the proper terms, but the bass on the 560s is very textured, impactful, and full. It doesn't overpower anything else in the mix. It's lackluster in some hip-hop, but perfect for everything else (except probably EDM).
DT990 - the bass here is a little deceptive. It sounds a little more bassy than the 560s due to a pleasing mid-bass bump but it doesn't feel as full-sounding, textured, or as deep as the 560s. The bass is very one-note, to my ears. Bass is hard to judge on this headphone, because if you look at the graphs you'd be inclined to say that the 990s should have far greater quantity of bass given the big hump around 150hz, but because the treble is very boosted in the 990s (more on that later) it actually gives an impression of being bass light. The better balance of the 560s makes it sound more bassy and impactful. However, with EQ, I think the 990 can actually become bassier as long as you listen at low volumes (the 990 is prone to distortion). For example, a harman bass shelf is easily achievable with the 990. It's also achievable on the 560s, but the bass doesn't change a whole lot with boosts at 20hz. But imo it doesn't need to change that much unless you're listening to like hip hop, in which case I feel both can offer satisfactory experiences.
___
Mids
HD560s - this shouldn't be a surprise if you've ever heard Sennheisers. The mids are clean, natural, smooth. However, where the 560s differentiates itself from its Sennheiser cousins is that you don't get the same I am in the microphone effect which you may or may not like. I like the change a lot, as it helps create a sense of space. The mids are supremely natural, neutral, detailed, voices are just a delight, but these headphones allows the vocals to be moved around space. Vocals aren't always center forward right in your head - if the track has the vocals pushed further back, you'll hear that. If the surrounding music is supposed to be more powerful than the vocals, these headphones will let that happen.
DT990 - Believe it or not, mids actually sound quite nice and natural on these headphones too, however, when A/B'ing with the 560s you will definitely hear a more thin, off-timbre. The people who say the mids are recessed to hell are exaggerating in my opinion - mids are still clear and present, but slightly thin, a little... lacking, is the best word I can come up with. This shouldn't be surprising since the 990s are V-shaped, but it's an extremely subtle V. Mids are pretty forward too, which can be a little odd given their thinner quality compared to the 560s.
___
Treble
HD560s - so some people consider the 560s a little bright, and they mention the peak around 4k, but honestly these aren't bright to me at all. I think I'm just not sensitive to this area of the treble - peaks at 6k bother me the most I think, and too much energy 10k+ can fatigue my ears more than peaks elsewhere. That said, I find the treble of the 560s to be just about perfect. Great air extension without making cymbals and drums sound unnaturally detailed and loud, electric distorted guitars are fast, energetic, but not piercing, violins and things such as are intricate and detailed. Overall, much like the rest of the tuning, the 560s are detailed, natural, and super linear and well-extended.
DT990s - this is a total love it or hate it. It's no secret that the 990s' treble is peaky and boosted. It gives the sound a large sense of space, a lot of detail is brought forward, it's very bright. You either love the sense of space, loud in your face detail, clear like an over-sharpened photograph (if you're familiar with lightroom, this is the headphone equivalent of sharpening a photo JUST until artifacting shows up in foliage)... or you hate it. At first listen, I loved it, coming from daily driving the slightly dark 58X and before that the very dark 598. But as I listened more to tracks I love, I came to realize that there was just way too much air. It sounded artificial after a while. Here's the thing, I don't find these piercing or shrill or unusable. I had a good chuckle at reading one review that said he "yanked the headphones off" immediately after playing something. Maybe it's insufferable if you're listening at 80db+, but I listen around 65-70 when really into it, and 60db is usually my target. At this volume, the treble is boosted, crystal clear, overly so, and extremely airy. You can hear drums pushing air, and it does sound more detailed at a glance compared to the 560s, but as you listen more you realize how artificial it sounds, like the headphones are adding something that's not there. With the 560s, I find it much more balanced where you still get nice air and detail off things like cymbals but they don't dominate the track like it can on the 990s.
___
Detail
HD560s - I already touched a bit on detail in treble since the two are closely linked, so I'll keep this short. The 560s seem less detailed at first, but if you sit and try to critically listen, you'll pick up on things with 560s that you can't with the 990s. For example, the 560s have the most detailed acoustic guitar representation I've heard yet (maybe outclassed by the Sundara). You can hear the pick moving in the air and plucking at the strings. If you've played guitar you'll know what I mean - it's that tiny, quiet plasticky sound of the pick touching the metal string, and it's really something only the guitarist can hear, and these are the only headphones I've tried that can so naturally and accurately recreate that on well-recorded acoustic tracks.
DT990s - in a word, they're overly-detailed. The boosted treble reveals a lot of little sounds that normally would get lost underneath the mids and bass in other headphones, but you can hear them here, such as drumsticks lightly tapping on cymbals. The only issue is that a lot of these details get pushed to the front of the mix and it can be quite over-powering and distracting. But a lot of people love this!
___
Dynamics
HD560s - this is a very important category for me and adds a lot of enjoyment for me. I returned the Sundaras because of comfort issues and lackluster dynamics. These headphones, the 560s, are probably 85-90% of the quality, clarity, balance, and detail of the Sundaras, but far more comfortable and dynamic. I like to test dynamics with Mountains by Hans Zimmer - when the music finally swells in, it really overtakes you, like a wave crashing into you, it's loud and impactful and slams into you. Hearkening back to my mention of All Quiet On The Western Front, this battle scene is fucking scary on these headphones. I'll touch on it more in the soundstage section, but the explosions, gunshot impacts, the screaming and dying and running, each has its own place and the sense of space and volume and impact is astonishing. The explosions are loud, the main character's running and breathing is subtle next to the loud screaming and gunshots... it's a great showing of awesome dynamics.
DT990s - the dynamics here come pretty close to the HD560s, but I feel the sound as a whole lacks the same body and impact compared to the 560s. The same movie scene mentioned before still sounds good, but where the 560s literally made me flinch several times, the 990s did not. They are still very engaging.
___
Instrument Separation
HD560s - my chief complaint with these headphones. I find that some tracks can sound a little overly busy with the 560s and it can sometimes be hard to separate instruments with loud, fast, full band tracks. This might be a decay issue, as it's only on big and fast tracks. Things like Skyrim's soundtracks, you can pick apart the orchestra easily.
DT 990s - they're just superior here. The soundstage can easily be broken up into several little chunks with crystal clear separation. Some people find it unnatural, I like it a lot.
___
Soundstage and Imaging
HD560s - again, very close here. I feel the 990s are slightly wider, but the 560s show more depth. The 560s actually do a great job of creating the illusion of 3D space, and pinpointing sounds in that 3D space is easy. It's not as exactly pinpoint as the 990s, but it does feel more natural, like sounds dispersing through air with a clear source if that makes sense. Going back to that movie scene, you really feel the sounds of gunshots whizzing around, can tell exactly where the explosions are landing, etc.
DT990 - very open and spacious sounding, but not as much depth as the 560s. The imaging here is unlike anything I've heard before. I understand why it's such an easy competitive gaming recommendation - the imaging is unnaturally accurate. Sounds don't really sound like they're coming from sources in open space, rather it's like a thin, clear dot in a spherical plane around your head.
___
Final Verdict
Both of these headphones are honestly excellent and not dramatically different from one another. If you gave these headphones to a regular person who had never really dabbled in audio past consumer earbuds, I'm not sure they could really tell you the difference. The 560s are open, wide, deep, greatly impactful and full sound, super flat tuning with the slightest of slightest of bright tilts, well extended bass, super balanced and natural sound with excellent detail, dynamics, imaging, etc. The 990s are a bit wider in sound, more thin, not so natural, better technicalities for competitive gaming but not so much music or movies. Put it this way: the 560s are listening at a spacious and well-made venue, while the 990s are listening plugged into the studio. And this make sense, given the 560s are marketed as enthusiast HiFi headphones, and the 990s are intended for professional work. I personally prefer the 560s, but use this review as a tool to guide your decision on what you might prefer.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far! Let me know your thoughts on these cans, those like it, ones you like better, etc. I love the friendly discussions in this sub, it's a great joy to talk about this hobby with y'all.

2023.03.26 23:57 WorldOrphan Hall of Doors: Neon - Chapter 52 (Final Chapter)
[SerSun] Serial Sunday: Loyalty! “Are you ready to face your fear?” the Keeper of the transient world asked.
Ellie didn't answer.
He offered her his hand, and helped her to her feet. “Come.”
The mist muffled their footsteps on the flagstones as he led her through the shadows. Shapes began to emerge, crumbling stone walls and leafless trees. Ahead of them, a large structure came into view. It was a high wall that stretched away into the darkness on either side, with an arched entrance directly in front of them. Sections of it were carved in the same twisting patterns that had been on the door in the Rift.
“It's a labyrinth,” he told her. “It connects to four or five different worlds. They change periodically. Except for the one to the far left. That one always comes out in a cave on the ridge above the Rift, where you came from. Of course, the paths are all one-way.”
Ellie drew in a sharp breath. She could go back to Eska. But once she'd made her choice, she couldn't take it back. Not without facing the monsters in the Rift again.
“This is where I leave you,” he said with a small smile. Before Ellie could respond, he turned away, and the mist swallowed him up.
She took a tentative step forward, then another. Beyond the archway, the labyrinth's passages proceeded into the distance to the left and right, with several openings leading to off. She took a step to the left. A faint strain of violin music reached her ears. “Eska,” she whispered. She took a few more steps in that direction.
Then she stopped. Come back to me, Eska had said. And she would. But not yet. Not until she'd tried at least one more time to find Gavin and her mother. She owed them that much. Ellie loved Eska, but she'd loved Gavin for longer, and she'd loved her mother for even longer still. She had an obligation to them. And more than that. Their absence left a hole in her heart, and any love she had for Eska would eventually trickle down into it and vanish. The act of searching for them could fill that hole with hope. It wasn't as good as being with them, but at least their wouldn't be a great, yawning void inside her.
Eska understood. She'd seen in her eyes that she understood and respected Ellie's need, and that might have been what Ellie love the most about her.
Ellie turned and strode with as much purpose as she could muster down the right-hand path. The corridor turned sharply. Not far beyond that, it branched. She could see more branches ahead down both pathways. Wind tickled her cheeks. From it she sensed magic, music, and open sky. She followed that sensation past the first branch and down the second, through the twists and turns of the labyrinth. The walls of the maze became rougher and more irregular. The blackness above her paled. All at once, she emerged from the narrow spaces and found herself looking at a panorama of red stone cliffs, falling away into a range of wild mountains.
Wind buffeted her, rippling through her hair and clothes. She heard the distant scream of an eagle, and saw birds the size of horses soaring among the peaks. They called to each other in voices that were raucous, but had a haunting melody to them all the same. It felt familiar somehow.
The ambient magic was strong and soothing, like an embrace, entirely different from the electric magic of Neon, or the spine-chilling magic of the Rift. She took it into herself, letting it wrap around her jangling nerves.
What is this place? she asked the winds.
If the world had a name, the winds didn't know it.
Are there people here? The winds pushed her gaze downward, to a glittering city climbing triumphantly up the side of a cliff.
I'm looking for my mother, she told the wind. She tried to describe the essence of her mother in a way the wind would understand. Old, mysterious but gentle, full of magic that was at once intense and beautiful, a seer, with a deep connection the wind and sky.
The winds fluttered with excitement, and Ellie's heart leapt. They directed her gaze upward and across the nearby peaks. Ellie strained her eyes, looking for a tower like the one she remembered from her childhood. But all she saw was a cluster of giant bird's nests. She sighed.
No, a human. Or maybe you've seen a human boy, a musician? She tried to describe Gavin, not a fighter but brave in every way that was important, full of faith and caring.
The winds pulled her gaze back down to the town, as if to say, There are plenty of humans in there. Go and see.
Ellie nodded resolutely. Then she asked the winds to help her find a safe path. It was time to try again. It was time to have hope.

2023.03.26 23:47 hollowknightisoverra Hollow knight Is "good" but super overhyped.
Hey all, so I finally beat HK. Took me 2 weeks. I never had any interest playing it at first as the characters looked bad and honestly it was omega level over hyped. And when games are over hyped I am 99% of the time let down. And I was.
I already know that half of you are cult followers of the game so I expect massive downvotes. Even though thats against reddits terms as well as this forums, go ahead and prove me right.
Okay so now that i've probably triggered 80% of people. And another 10% just from stating that I triggered them, i'll move on to why hollow knight is overrated.
So i'll go down a list. Things I loved, liked, hated, etc.
Loved:
- The haunting music. Wonderful and sad. Some of the best of that kind i've heard in any game.
- The tight controls.
- The background art.
And thats it. Things I liked:
- The game itself. I like it. Not bad at all. A solid MEDIUM tiered metroidvania.
Things I hated/disliked/why the games overrated.
- The game is too big. Its just TOO big. It could be more condensed. Its basically a jumping/dashing simulator. To get to the next platforming part/boss/ability.
- The characters designs. Cute and simple. But cute and simple are not for me. It honestly looks like a child drew them. I'm not bragging here but I am no artist. And I could draw better characters back in middle school. Much less now.
- The combat music. This is funny to me. It has some of the BEST ambient/sad music I've ever heard. And yet the combat music is some of the WORST I've ever heard. Aside from Radiance and the Dracula bug, 99% of all the combat music in this game is bad.
The map system. Literally one of the worst of all time.
The abilities. I was hyped up and told the game had amazing combat and fights. No.. no it does not. 99.9% of every fight in the entire game is your regular attack. This games combat is basically dodge simulator.
The death system. Its stupid. No one likes having to go get your body/loot. What is this, everquest?
The story sucks. I know that a lot of it suppose to be "figure it out yourself". Lol yeaaaa, just not my cup of tea. But the core story that we were told every ending is cannon. Well thats just dumb to say from the director dude. Surely he will change his mind.
I'm sure I could complain more. As well as praise in it a few other areas too. But i'll wrap this up.
In conclusion. I recommend people play it. For the price point and how polished it is I would give it a solid 7/10.
But for my own personal score of how GOOD the game is and how much it ADDS to actual metroidvanias and how unique it is, I give it a solid 5/10. It did nothing new or added nothing "awesome".
I am ready to read all the comments telling me I am wrong. But I implore you that when typing at least give me detailed reasons why.
Also as a bonus question. What are your thoughts on the overhyped/rated HK? Do you agree that its overhyped?

2023.03.26 23:43 Gretschish 30 [M4F] Chicago - looking for a long term relationship
Hello! I'm a 30 year old guy living on the border of Chinatown and the South Loop in Chicago. As I likely don't need to tell you, dating apps have only continued their downhill slide and are proving more unproductive than ever. Hence, I'm turning to Reddit in the search for love!
I'm looking for a
local (seriously, Chicago area only) girl from age 25 - 35, though there is some flexibility on age for the right girl. I'm not terribly picky in terms of appearance, though I do appreciate a girl who takes reasonably good care of herself, as I think most people do in terms of potential partners lol. I'm a leftist, but don't screen too hard on political matters, as long as you're not a right winger. Also, I'm spiritual, but not religious, and I really have no particular preference in that regard. I do appreciate women (and people, in general) who are intelligent, well spoken, thoughtful, curious, passionate about learning, nonmaterialistic, and not overly career oriented.
About me: I live to think I have fairly disparate interests. I read a lot, mostly philosophy and political theory, with the occasional novel peppered in. Speaking of that, I am also writing my own novel! Maybe you can be a beta reader (I legit need one). My other passion is photography! Let me take your picture 😊
Beyond that, I'm a music lover, choosy movie buff, and foodie who wants to cook more and loves trying new restaurants. I also love the outdoors, although I don't feel like I get a lot of access to nature living in the city without a car. Take me camping in Wisconsin and I'll definitely fall for you! On weekends, you can catch me at a museum, coffee shop, or taking a long walk around the city.
I've worked hard to develop a certain code of ethics and behavior for myself and try at all times to be kind, respectful, patient, easy going, and considerate. All I ask is that you do the same. I do not drink alcohol but have no problem being around it. I don't really use THC products anymore, but, again, have no issue if you do.
I am 5’10” with a thin build. I work full time in the advertising industry.
I think that about covers the basic. I've linked a recent photo! Please say hi :) Chats or messages are fine.
