2023.06.10 12:36 AbbreviationsReal560 [WP] An alien armada is foiled by a single janitor

Sol Asteroid Belt Ceres Sentinel Fleet S.S. Dark Maw Bridge
Ensign Briggs
Briggs keyed in his access code to the Command Center of the Bridge and sighed as his code was rejected. The next two subsequent attempts proved to be folly. He stared up at the ceiling and cursed silently to himself. Lt. Commander Carson must have been in a fun mood. Briggs steeled himself for the conversation ahead, held his mop in his right hand, took a deep breath, and then rapped on the door with his knuckles. The sounds of two voices echoed against the bulkhead, followed by the approach of footsteps on the deck. The door opened with a soft woosh. Lt. Commander Carson glared down at Briggs.
"Command Center is for Senior Officers only... ensign. Aft airlock needs a good scrub. Why don't you go make yourself useful?"
Briggs held eyecontact with the imposing man who was Carson for a solid second, maybe two, before looking down at the deck and replied,
"Captain Campbell sent me. All the non-essential crew members are in the mess celebrating his final flight, and he," Briggs sighed, again, "he didn't want to send good personnel to clean up the mess his pet Ferret made."
A laugh was heard coming from Lt. Ciernak, as she could obviously hear the exchange. She was sitting in the Command Chair, which all crew knew was specifically reserved for only the lead officer on duty. Briggs had had his suspicions that the two were an item, and this essentially confirmed it. Well, that and the fact that the top two buttons to her blouse were unbuttoned. Briggs shifted his weight uncomfortably as Carson continued his gaze. Suddenly, Carson raised his finger at Briggs and, with a mocking grin, broke the silence.
"You know what shit-bag? Cap's party is scheduled to last another hour. Ciernak and I are going to step out and 'stretch our legs'. Keep an eye on things in here while we're out. And please, try not to jettison anymore of our airsupply again, k champ?"
"Aye, sir." replied a thoroughly defeated Briggs.
Carson quickly escorted Ciernak out of the Command Center, giving Briggs a wink on the way out. Then Briggs was alone. Alone in the Command Center of one of the most shit-your-pants-powerful Warships humans had ever produced. And Briggs was here to clean up Ferret vomit. Captain Campbell's favorite lifeform was almost always attached to him, except when it slept, ate, relieved itself, and, of course, threw up on the deck. A small, nearly dry puddle of vomit lay beside the Command Chair. Briggs acted out what he wished he had said to Carson as he swabbed up the mess. He also threw in a few half-hearted jabs to his imaginary foe in between mop strokes. One of those jabs caused Briggs to lose hold of his mop, and it dropped, striking a control console behind him. The console awoke and began offering prompts all across the screen. Briggs quickly went to grab the mop handle but slipped on the slick floor and lost his balance, crashing onto the console.
As he stood back up, the sound of a ping was heard. Faint, at first, but steadily picking up intensity and volume. A glance above the pinging screen told him very little as he was a very new ship's maintenance technician. It read "Gravitational Analysis," which, to him, might as well have been written in Farci. Fear seized control of his muscles as he frantically attempted to tap prompts and adjust dials in order to quell the noise. An alarm began ringing out, emanating from the command chair.
"Shit, shit, shit!"
Not again. His current duties as a disgraced sanitation tech had almost been too much for Briggs to handle after mistakenly venting half the ship's air supply into space a few weeks ago. This time, Captain Campbell might just send him out the airlock himself.
Multiple consoles suddenly began coming to life, each adding their own melody to the growing orchestra of mayhem, each pushing Briggs further into terror. Finally, he'd had enough. He rushed to the door in an attempt to enlist help, keyed in his access code, and laughed a solid belly laugh, as it was denied.
This was it. It was over. His entire life, he'd just wanted to be a part of something great. He had known early on that he'd never be a Carson. He'd never be the kick ass and take names type of guy. But he was okay with that, as long as he could say that he was there, and he had done something. Anything. But he had only screwed it all up.
Briggs sat in the Command Chair and surveyed the Command Center. The once serene and boring brain of the ship was now buzzing with energy. A small ring, reminiscent of an angelic halo lit up above him and a firm feminine voice spoke to him through the chair,
"Ship systems Interface activated."
The halo dropped onto Briggs' head, and for a moment, everything went blinding white. Then, as quickly as it had come, the light subsided to reveal a 360-degree full field view surrounding the ship. He scanned his head around to see what had happened to find that he could see the surrounding Asteroid field local to Ceres, and a look down showed the S.S. Dark Maw itself as if he were sitting on top of it. A gasp escaped his mouth at the sheer fucking awesomeness of what he was experiencing. He'd been an avid sim-gamer as a child, and this was right up his alley. His hands were suddenly aware of twin joysticks popping up from the chair arms. Briggs could hardly contain his grin. The feminine voice spoke again.
"Gravitational anomaly detected in sector 10."
As if on cue, an indicator popped up and surrounded a section of space ahead of them that seemed to be, off. Dust and small rocks were being drawn into a single point and collecting into a small but quickly expanding ring of particles.
"Nope! Not getting near that!" Briggs exclaimed. He tapped the right joystick to the left, and to his surprise, the ship strafed left. Hard. Proximity alarms began ringing in his ears as the ship nearly plowed into several hunks of ice and rock. A particularly large rock, several times the mass of the S.S. Dark Maw now sat between it and the anomaly.
The ship's comm signaled, and the voice of Captain Campbell rang through.
"Carson! Report. What the Fuck is happening?"
Briggs was at a loss.
"Uhh, hi Cap, sir. This isn't Carson. It's Briggs. Ensign Briggs, sir. I'm uh, filling in for Carson, sir. There's, um, an anomaly and i uhh... Im so sorry, sir. I was cleaning like you said, and i dropped the mop, and then there were these noises, and I sat in the chair..."
Campbell interrupted Briggs,
"Ensign. I want you to listen very closely. You have just taken control of an Earth-Fleet Warship, without authorization. I can now, under Earth-Fleet Naval Law, legally use your fucking corpse as a hull ornament! Now get your sing-song ass into the brig, fucking now, or I'll be forced to use your atoms as ejection mass for my return flight home!"
The small ring of dust and rock chose the exact moment Campbell finished his reprimand to massively expand into a much larger ring, about a kilometer wide. Almost immediately after the transformation, a bright light began shining through the ring and the outline of a long, sleek and terrifyingly advanced looking starship began advancing through.
"Fuuuuuck this!" shouted Briggs as he slammed his fists into the arm rests of the Command Chair and pushed the halo back up away from his head. Unbeknownst to Briggs, three missiles shot out of their respective turrets in three different directions, one of which was directly in front of the S.S. Dark Maw, into the large rock before them. Briggs grabbed his mop, finished cleaning the vomit, and waited patiently by the door, awaiting his eventual escort to the brig.
Captain Campbell, Lt. Commander Carson, Lt. Ciernak and two security officers all filed through the door of the Command Center to see Briggs staring at them. Behind him on the view screen, the broken pieces of the Asteroid Briggs had attacked were pelting the unwelcome guests with great prejudice. Silent explosions rocked the alien vessel before it had even fully exited its warp ring. One particular rock had angled in such a way that it had actually passed through the ring and was wreaking havoc on ships that hadn't even yet entered sol space.
Briggs glared at the bewildered group and shouted, "I cleaned the fucking mess! Now take me to the brig!"

my brother kevin had died and i was desperate, i couldn't accept it, there was no coffin at the funeral and no sign of him. then my parents and I go to the cemetery, but before we understand why we were there, little wolves arrive that mom tries to pet but then a big black one arrives. (I had my first sleep paralysis with a huge black wolf biting my hand). I was in the front seat and as soon as I see the wolf I open the door and go behind, the wolf doesn't do anything to me but he wanted to take mom and kept jumping to get her out of the car and then I woke up.

2023.06.10 11:25 lin-ling-feng How can I help a dog with a torn ACL? Benefits of Knee brace for Dogs

As pet owners, we strive to provide the best care and support for our furry friends. Unfortunately, just like humans, dogs can experience injuries and conditions that affect their mobility. One such common injury is a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in their knee joint.
If your dog has a torn ACL, you may be wondering how you can help them walk and regain their mobility.
In this article, we will discuss the benefits of using knee braces for dogs and how they can aid in your dog's recovery process.
Understanding a Torn ACL in Dogs
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) plays a crucial role in stabilizing the knee joint in both humans and dogs. When a dog tears their ACL, it can cause significant pain, lameness, and difficulty in walking or bearing weight on the affected leg. The most common cause of ACL tears in dogs is often attributed to sudden twisting or pivoting movements during physical activities.
The Importance of Seeking Veterinary Care
If you suspect that your dog has torn their ACL, it is essential to seek veterinary care promptly. A veterinarian can diagnose the injury through a physical examination and, in some cases, further tests like X-rays or an MRI. Depending on the severity of the injury, treatment options may include surgical intervention or conservative management, such as rest, medication, and physical therapy.
đź“·
The Role of Knee Braces for Dogs
One effective method to support a dog's recovery from a torn ACL is the use of knee braces. These braces are specially designed to provide stability, reduce pain, and aid in the healing process. Let's explore some of the benefits of using knee braces for dogs:
Stability and Support: A knee brace for dogs offers crucial stability to the affected knee joint. It helps restrict excessive movement and provides support to the injured ligament, preventing further damage. The stability provided by the brace allows the dog to walk with more confidence and reduces the risk of re-injury.
Pain Relief: Dogs with torn ACLs often experience pain and discomfort while walking. Knee braces can help alleviate this pain by reducing the load on the affected joint. The compression provided by the brace also helps to improve circulation and decrease inflammation, promoting the healing process.
Rehabilitation Aid: Knee braces can be beneficial during the rehabilitation phase after surgery or conservative management. They help dogs regain their mobility by providing controlled movement and preventing excessive strain on the healing ligament. This aids in a smoother recovery and facilitates the gradual return to normal activities.
Preventing Secondary Injuries: Dogs with a torn ACL may compensate by overusing other limbs, leading to potential strain or injury in those areas. Knee braces help distribute the weight more evenly across all limbs, reducing the risk of secondary injuries and promoting balanced movement.
Choosing the Right Knee Brace for Your Dog
When considering a knee brace for your dog, it is crucial to consult with your veterinarian or a veterinary orthopedic specialist. They can evaluate your dog's specific condition and recommend the most suitable brace for their needs. Factors such as the dog's size, breed, and activity level should be taken into account when selecting a knee brace.
It is important to note that knee braces are not a substitute for veterinary care or a guaranteed solution for all cases. In some severe cases, surgical intervention may be the recommended course of action. Your veterinarian will guide you in making the best decision for your dog's individual circumstances.
đź“·
Conclusion
Watching our beloved furry friends struggle with mobility issues can be heart-wrenching. If your dog has a torn ACL, utilizing a knee brace can significantly aid in their recovery process and help them regain their mobility. By providing stability, pain relief, and support, knee braces for dogs offer a valuable tool in managing this common canine injury.
Remember, seeking veterinary care and advice is crucial when dealing with a torn ACL or any other health issue affecting your dog. Your veterinarian will guide you through the appropriate treatment options, which may include the use of a knee brace. Together with proper medical care, love, and patience, you can assist your dog in returning to an active and fulfilling life.

2023.06.10 11:19 pleaseinsertdisk2 Why the Return to the Office Is Inevitable

Since I’ve started working as an SWE roughly 8 years ago, I always worked 100% remote jobs. Reading an opinion like this from the Information (paywalled, copy below) makes me really sad about the way things are going right now. Not because I see my job opportunities slipping, but because of the stupidity of the arguments presented by executives - and apparently parroted by "journalists".
For proponents of a return to working in the office, it’s two steps forward and one step back. The haze of Canadian smoke that hung over New York City and other parts of the East Coast this week gave people a reason to stay inside. Some schools shuttered their doors. People on the streets have been wearing masks. Yes, it has felt a bit like 2020. But no one should rush to buy Zoom Video stock. Unlike the pandemic, the fires won’t last. And the march back to the office is showing every sign of being unstoppable.
Just this week, Google toughened its in-office policies by telling employees it will consider their office attendance in personnel reviews, The Wall Street Journal reported. Meanwhile, Meta Platforms—which last week called employees back to the office three days a week—today held its first in-person all-hands meeting since 2020. The rhetoric from advocates of in-office work, including prominent businesspeople, is intensifying. Martha Stewart, who knows a thing or two about building a business, declared in an interview with Footwearnews.com that “you can’t possibly get everything done working three days a week in the office and two days remotely.” Then there was yesterday’s New York Times report about two entrepreneurs who had left San Francisco during the pandemic for the wilds of Oregon but are now moving back to the Bay Area, feeling that they’re missing out on networking and other in-person meetups.
Of course, the die-hard advocates of remote work are defiant. The Wall Street Journal published a report today detailing the viewpoints of “hundreds” of pro–remote work readers. Their main pet peeves included commutes and open-plan office layouts. Well, long commutes are not pleasant. And open-plan offices can be noisy. Here’s an idea: Read a book on the commute and wear headphones in the office when you really need to concentrate.
Chances are this debate will resolve itself naturally. Over time, people who absolutely refuse to work in an office won’t have to fight that battle anymore because they won’t have a job. Everyone else will get used to the idea. After all, does anyone seriously think sitting around at home wearing sweatpants for 40 years is the path to a fulfilling career?
This is so much nonsense in one short article and summarizes everything that’s wrong with RTO. I get that there a people doing actual work who appreciate being in an office but at least to myself I’m living proof that it’s absolutely possible to get everything done remotely to a company’s satisfaction and build a career on that. If the company supports that.
I’m actually surprised that white collar workers are thought of so lowly by their bosses, that they are deemed incapable of devising a plan together over remote communication tools, and executing on it effectively by either their own or collaboratively. That’s a skill I want every experienced developer to have. If they want to use it, is totally up to them. But seeing execs continuously blasting this bullshit about the greatness of being together in offices and people being available to pull into meetings at a moment’s notice just triggers my PTSD from when I worked with horrible bosses who constantly needed babysitting and comforting by as many people as possible at the same time while constantly changing direction on a whim and stifling productivity.
To me, it is without question that there are huge advantages to workers, to society and to the environment in remote and hybrid work. Not supporting them at least as possibilities is a kick in the nuts for all of those beneficiaries by some of the most influential companies on earth. Do the right thing. Don’t be evil. Save the planet. My ass. What I see going on is a power struggle on the back of everyone except shareholders, nothing else.

Why don't we have an auction house for players to sell their items between eachother for items that are bazaar blocked?
Or why aren't we allowed to trade items amongst players? You shouldn't have to run the final dungeons hundreds of times in order to get your gear, it feels like they are only doing this to keep crafting relevant. There is no reason players aren't allowed to trade gear in this game, if i'm a death wizard running for novus gear and I get myth gear I should be able to trade this gear with a myth player who needs the gear and has the gear I need. Theres no reason we should be stuck with level 160 gear for schools we may never choose to play, the only options the player has is to quicksell the item or feed it to their pet. This seems absolutely ridiculous to me. This game isn't made for children anymore thats obvious so why can't we trade amongst one another? This would just unite the wiz community more and make people communicate with each other more.
Next MAKE THE FIRST ARC FREE Why can we only play the game to level 12 for free? Its a 15 year old game, yet still advertising itself as "free to play", when thats just not at all the case. Level 12 isn't even 10% of the game, you don't even get to experience anything fun because right when you get to that content, your cut off and stuck at a paywall.
FINALLY If this game actually launches on mobile, properly, at least opens the paywall and allows players to explore the spiral so they can see what the game has to offer. Then we could potentially see a huge rise in the player base and the game would be more enjoyable for everyone.
please fix these problems, I love wizard101, part of my childhood lives in this game, dont let it die.

2023.06.10 08:30 Euclidiuss I feel very uneasy about the dating world.

I have a little dillemma;
I'm fairly young (18) and I have little experience in the dating world. (I said little. I have had 2 girlfriends in my time.) I'm introverted by nature (I always have been) and I'm a little socially awkward but generally I can have a good one on one conversation with someone and I'm pretty good looking. I'd say at least above average.
I'm not in a particularly good positon to go out and meet people at the moment considering that living in the rural midwest is kinda boring. I don't have many friends or a consistent social circle. (I don't really mind having two friends, but women for some reason like guys who have a prominent social circle.)
So as a result of this I took to the dating apps because that seems like my best option at the moment. But whenever I use the apps I get barely any matches at all. But that's not even what's bothering me the most. (compared to what I'm about to tell you it is a marginal issue because it doesn't surprise me)
My main problem is this endless swiping, and reading bios of women's profiles just to have nearly all of them blend into one another. Almost nobody sticks out, and the ones that do stick out to me are very unlikely to notice me to begin with.
But the main issue is that most women don't stick out at all. They all like the same crappy rap and pop music I hate listening to. Alot of them think owning a cat or dog makes them special (it doesn't. 66% of the American population owns a household pet.) Not only that but they all dress very similarly and have similar phrases in their bios. (I can't even give an example, that's how forgettable they are.)
These dating apps are designed for the benefit of women rather than men. It's like they an just swipe on any random guy and instantly get them without even having to put effort in. (Hence the boring, recycled profile backgrounds)
I'm not saying mine is much better either, I'm sure my profile looks the same as a lot of other guys out there, and that is probably why I fly under the radar like most young men my age. I don't exactly impress women I'm a fairly run of the mill average guy. But these women aren't impressing me either. I swipe right on a huge majority of profiles even if they have marginal differences to one another. I do think nearly everyone deserves a fair chance, maybe these girls could be fun to hang around with, you never know. But once again, I'm not exactly impressed with most of their underwhelming choices of words.
People lack enthusiasm in their profiles. They're all cryptic and vague, without any information on how they act being displayed what so ever. I get you have so little space to get the point across of who you are in a couple sentences and that it takes a more intimate face to face conversation to exchange more vital information on one's values, personality, and experiences but I'm not exactly getting to make any progress.
I know I'm young and have alot of time to figure this stuff out. Also being 18 is the worst age to date because I'm still too immature for most women older than 19. But I'm still uneasy about what's to come in the future considering I have bad anxiety and have difficulties approaching people. (Which will be solved with time and experience. But I need to start soon if I'm going to make any progress and dating apps aren't exactly making it easier.)
I'd join a club but I'm unemployed and have no car. (Soon to change, I have an interview coming up in the next couple weeks. I'm confident I'll get the job because I'm prepared to give them a ton of good reasons why I need the job.)
Idk. If I could have some words of wisdom from you older folks or just someone to reassure me that I should keep going my own way for now and not sweat it so much. I'm a bit lonely and I need a little bit of humanity to cheer me up.

2023.06.10 08:14 pinkgtr F15 looking for a friend, and roblox buddies :,)

Hello! My name is Temperance. I am fifteen years old, I’m a female, and I’m from America. I’m in EST timezone.
I’m looking for someone to have some fun conversations with, and also to play roblox. (I know, a childish game, Im just bored lol)
I can do VC on discord if I am comfortable with you and if you are around my age!
I am not the greatest at starting conversations! But I can talk very well. I am also a great listener, and if you ever need someone to vent/rant to or need advice, I am here!
Some things to know about me, I am a huge marvel fan! I absolutely love marvel, my whole room is decorated in that stuff. I also enjoy watching other movies, mainly 80s/90s movies. If you have any movie recommendations, lmk!!
Some of my favorite shows are stranger things, the walking dead, criminal minds, the umbrella academy, outer banks, YOU on netflix, and HXH! I also enjoy watching cooking and baking shows!
I love listening to music, some of my favorite artists are frank ocean, kendrick lamar, jhene aiko, tyler the creator, adele, sza, mac miller, and michael jackson. And many more, I just don’t feel like listing them here lol.
I enjoy spending my free time in the outside! I also enjoy photography, and playing with my pets. I also enjoy editing, cooking, reading about illnesses/mental disorders, or just the human body in general, self-care, and painting!

2023.06.10 08:12 alurry [US] [Selling] Entire 4K SteelBook Collection (250+)

I am selling my entire personal collection. 95% of these were purchased new by me. Immediately after purchase I put them into the plastic protectors and haven't removed them since. None are heavily damaged (bending, major dents, multiple large scratches, etc.). There may be tiny dents, scratches, and the odd spine slash here and there. When you are ready to purchase I will let you know if I see any noticeable damage, however minor or major.

These are all used and opened and none contain the digital code or j-card. The vast majority contain all the original discs but a few might be missing the regular blu-ray. Most discs have never been played but I have watched a few once or twice. No issues while playing any of them.

I will ship for free via Media Mail. If you would prefer I ship using First Class or something else we can work out an extra fee. I would prefer to use PayPal F&F but will accept G&S if you insist. I will ship with the plastic protector (or with the slipcover that originally came with the SteelBook) and I will ship securely in a box with lots of bubble wrap (see picture below).

Prices are somewhat firm but it's hard to say what a lot of these are worth so feel free to make an offer. The more you buy the better deal I can give you. 10% off (possibly more) if you buy 2 and it only goes up from there. I would prefer to keep most of the collections together for now but could sell individually for the right price.

Proof (https://imgur.com/a/UOAZ2UL). If you want more assurance I have 224 transactions in DigitalCodeSELL (check my post history). I can also link you my eBay page if that is allowed. 3.6K items sold with 100% positive feedback.
