A bit of light drama!
Recently in the pokemon rom hack community lots of people have been discussing the polish of a very popular hack: Pokemon Radical Red, that aims to increase the difficulty of the older games. OP attempted to make a post defending some of the more controversial aspects of the romhack. One sore spot for many is how the AI is handled, and how it seemingly "cheats" due to having the ability to react to your moves before the turn ends. Users go at it.
OP claims:
> No the AI doesnt cheat. The only thing the AI does is that it knows your entire team + stats + held items, but thats only fair since you also have that information on hand as well.
User with coding experience comes in and disagrees with OP, stating:
> Cheating is using an unfair advantage the other player does not have. We do not have the ability to read what the computer can do, but the computer can see our moves allowing it to make the perfect play in every situation. This would be similar to two people battling competitively, but one player is allowed to see the other players move before making their next. So yeah it’s cheating.
Seemingly innocuous as it continues for a little bit with both users disagreeing. Eventually OP begins to get frustrated with the situation and calls other user out.
OP:

User then comes back with a shocking twist, he's actually worked on the AI in question.
User:

OP begins insulting the intelligence of those he's arguing with.

After seemingly being proven wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt after more arguing, OP then backtracks, claiming he was only talking about "normal difficulty" despite stating in his post that he was talking about hardcore mode.

Also i edited my comment to reflect that, hence why I said I was willingly to concede halfway regarding hardcore AI.
Other user, seemingly not having his bloodlust satisfied claps back:

Now a full 24 hours later, both users are still going at it. It begins to get pretty weird, as OP mentions how awesome his life is unprompted:

My stake in this goes as deep as me trying to stop blatant misinformation lol, this isn't personal for me like it is for you.
Just goes to show the amount of passion people have for niche topics. I found it hilarious.

EDIT This rom hack was released too earlier, before I knew much about hacking and the community . It is to be rereleased through pokeemerald. The competitive influence is applied, but to a much more complete hack. This will be an improvement to the vanilla game in many many more way than this current alpha hack.

A couple days ago I finished my first rom hack, Echo Emerald, for play-testing.
The goal of Echo Emerald was to refresh Emerald and give it more competitive spice and fuller experience. The more I develop the more potential I see for improving the the game. It’s exciting for a first project.
This is an Emerald rom hack featuring many quality of life enhancements, difficult gyms and reworked e4, new encounters reworked for every route and 100% hoenn national dex completion. More details found here: (doc is also located in the discord)
