I haven’t even flirted for such a long time, and lately, during those boring lunches where people just talk about heiresses’ dogs’ illnesses (a Pomeranian dog shares all her illnesses with her owner) or gossip about some technocrat who has a limp and who may be cheating on his partner, and while rice with cod is served, I am asked “darling, are you dating yet?”. No, I am not, and here I am, mostly because dating apps are too dull – unfortunately the odds of being flashed by a Jewish 19 year-old from Manchester is smaller on these things, though sometimes you might have some luck and end up being insulted randomly by a Portuguese girl, who is visiting her uncle.
I do have names, and surnames, and I was born in a big city in Brazil. My sister used to describe our childhood address as “a building with cars and trees and buildings”, which is a rather good description of much of the city. For a while I wanted to join the seminary but after having to face the fact that this was an inadequate career choice considering I didn’t believe in God and had always found masses to be awfully boring (though fascinating at times – the priest at my childhood church used to go on long rants about things, of which there are many) often turning my back to see the watch, and so I chose the next best thing: I am studying sociology, which involves, in many ways, taking a vow of poverty. I also work at a small online newspaper so I am well informed on sub celebrities and local occurrences such as babies heroically rescued by policemen after choking on the thing babies eat. And yes, I write poetry sometimes.
I am fascinated fairly often by everything, or many things, at least so you won’t be bored. These last days I ended up reading a lot of things about Egypt after reading about Ottoman chief eunuchs being exiled to Cairo after their tenure. In general, I really enjoy the humanities. I follow politics keenly – in fact, there is some chance I might have some thoughts on your country’s politics – and I’d say I am on the centre-left – pro-choice, in favour of a robust welfare state, LGBTQ+ rights, affirmative action. If you know about Brazilian politics, I voted for Marina and Haddad in 2018 (the voting age here is 16), and Lula last year.
As you can imagine, I also really enjoy reading and writing. Besides poetry, I have often thought about writing a novel, but this seems like too much work – and it seems that it would be arrogant of me to write a novel having lived this little, though it wouldn't be uncommon. I really enjoy learning about other languages and cultures and I know a bit of French, German, Spanish, and Russian, besides English and Portuguese. I’d really like to learn Arabic and/or Mandarin. I am really into genealogy, and I know quite a bit about it. I often cry while watching dumb movies (I cried during Minions!) or listening to beautiful music; my music taste has been described as “fairly gay” and in movies as “slightly gay”.
I guess I am pretty introverted, polite, and timid (well, I am on here after all). I am affectionate and I can be really passionate as well. And I am fairly funny, or rather, I have made a few people laugh over the years. I asked a close friend to describe myself, and that is what he said:
I think you’re very communicative. Shrewd, funny, a good companion. Kind of withdrawn but not necessarily shy. You avoid conflict and unnecessary arguments, but love to participate in good conversations. I think you’re very kind too, besides being polite.
As for what I want to do with my life, I am unsure though I am inclined to go into academia. I have been considering applying to a PhD program in the U.S. after finishing my undergrad here in Brazil. My family does want me to go into their business, which is related to politics. I have also considered going into diplomacy.
Who am I looking for? I’d like someone curious about the world around her, and open-minded.

Edit: I was recommended by my family because I have depression and have been finding life really difficult. It is a catholic healing ministry, it's not run in our local church they have a separate centre for it. I'm reluctant to be honest about the whole thing, which is why I wanted know if anyone else has had experience with it. I guess someone praying over me won't hurt..

2023.06.08 12:55 three-day-trip The Fisher of Men and a Real Saint (1086 spoilers)

The meaning behind the name St. Shepard Ju Peter is a pun for Saint Peter in the bible and the planet/God Jupiter. A Jew named Peter who was crucified upside down by Roman Emperor Nero.
FIRST BISHOP OF ROME - SAINT PETER
St. Shepherd Ju PeteWarrior God of Agriculture

The bishop is a shepherd of all those entrusted to his care.
(There are many versions of Peter's story)
From the New Testament and 4 gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Peter was a Jewish fisherman in Bethsaida (John 1:44). He was first named Simon, the son of a man named Jonah. After giving up everything in his life to follow Jesus, Simon was given the new name, Peter.
(Saint Peter (died between AD 64 and 68), also known as Peter the Apostle, Simon Peter, Simeon, Simon, or Cephas ( lit. 'rock'), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and one of the first leaders of the early Christian Church. (Or, Petros, from the Greek and Latin word for a rock or stone (petra) o which the masculine ending was added, rendered into English as Peter.) It can also mean Jewel or hewn stone.)
Peter was the first apostle and he is described as "the rock" on which the church will be built. First leader of the early Church.
In Matthew and Mark, Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew to be \"fishers of men\".
Three of the four gospels—Matthew, Mark and John—recount the story of Jesus walking on water. Matthew additionally describes Peter walking on water for a moment but beginning to sink when his faith wavers (Matthew 14:28–31).[52]
Although Peter became one of the one Apostles that followed Christ he began to have doubts and denied Christ 3 times before his crucifixion.(Peter denied Christ 3 times, 3 days later Christ rose from the dead, then in front of Jesus confirmed his faith 3 times.) 3/3/3
According to the New Testament, Jesus was crucified at a spot outside Jerusalem called Golgotha, which in Aramaic means “place of the skull.” The Latin word for skull is calvaria, and in English many Christians refer to the site of the crucifixion as Calvary.
Peter's execution years later was ordered by the Roman Emperor Nero, who blamed the city's Christians for a terrible fire that had ravaged Rome. Peter requested to be crucified upside down, as he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. He died at a place called Nero's Circus, which was at the foot of the Vatican Hill.
CIRCUS OF NERO: After the Great Fire of Rome and looking for a scapegoat, Nero blamed Christians and arrested them, executing them in mass killings in the circus. It was also the site of St. Peter's and St. Paul's martyrdom, executed under Nero's ruling.

FUN CONNECTIONS:
1. The name given to one of the first 20 Nerona Imu may tie into Emperor Nero.
2. The fact Simon's name was changed to Peter may mean St. Ju Peter once went by a different name.
3. The place Jesus was crucified was called Golgotha meaning "Place of the Skull" which could relate to the Onigashima skull or pirate flags in general.
4. Jupiter was the Roman King of all gods, chief of the pantheon and protector of ancient Rome. His full name says it all: Jupiter Optimus Maximus. He was also god of the sky and thunder. So this may connect to Enel and his Ark Maxim from Skypiea.
5. The Name Nerona may remind me of Perona but it also has a mixture of Roanoa in there.
6. Peter took the place of Judas, who had betrayed Christ and later died. May mean St Ju Peter replaced someone. He does look younger and less experienced than the others.
7. Peter means rock or jewel. Was he formerly known as Rocks??? or somehow connected to Jewelry Bonney???
8. Above all - the thought of Nero's Circus and the 5 Elder Stars gives new meaning to "Buggy the Clown Star" and his circus theme. (LOL)
**ANIME ONLY:**Now I know Condoriano isn't canon but I feel i have to bring him up. Especially since Usopp gave him that name while Robin took Major Shepherd's.
CONDORIANO (Major Shepherd)
Nico Robin as Major Shepherd

Really hope this was informative and fun. There's a lot to think about. Some connections are just a bit silly but why not? This isn't about being right. It's about really enjoying the story.
We all wish you well ODA and a quick recovery.
Now we just need to figure out the rest.

Why do other protestants not understand this. Do you think its because of "anti catholic" teachings
Had a discussion withmy father-in-law who is Church of Scotland, and a majority of protestants think it means everything the pope says is dogma.
After i tkld him how many times papal Infallibility has been used (ie once in 1950 about the assumption of mary)

Trump can Never Again be President, According to Mike Pence

Invoking historical divisions and his conviction that Donald Trump is unqualified for reelection, former vice president Mike Pence declared his candidature for president against Trump. Pence emphasized his support for conservative ideals such as limiting access to abortion, protecting religious freedom, and decentralizing power. He intends to run for office in Iowa and make a case for the better nature of Americans.
Pence’s campaign got off to a more subdued start, highlighting the origins of conservatism and addressing the problems the nation was facing. Pence emphasized the necessity for a leader who appeals to the higher virtues of human nature in an announcement video.

Presidential Campaign 2024

The attack on the U.S. Capitol and the Constitution on January 6 was a point of contention between him and Trump, and he ]emphasized this while claiming that voters will now have the same option. Pence expressed sadness with the results of the 2020 election, but he said his dedication to the American people and God drove him to decide to run against Trump in 2024.
He emphasized that Trump has a different vision for the future than he does and that his disagreements with Biden and the far left are due to the movement’s principles and objectives. Pence, a former congressman and governor of Indiana, filed paperwork to formally announce his candidature.
  • Mike Pence declares presidential candidacy against Trump, promoting conservative ideals.
  • Pence faces the 2020 election challenge and vows 2024 against Trump due to dedication and faith.
  • Pence’s devoted support for Trump was questioned, with some criticizing and others concerned.
He argued that Trump has been shifting his position on abortion restrictions and lacks any strategy for dealing with the nation’s long-term debt and budget problems.
Up until January 6, 2021, when he was constitutionally unable to do so as vice president, Pence remained a devoted №2 to Trump. Some have claimed that Pence ought to criticize Trump more, perhaps after Asa Hutchinson denounced the indictment of the president. Others commend Pence but express anxiety about his amount of backing, such as GOP donor Dan Eberhart.
Targeting the Christian vote in Iowa, Mike Pence plans to run his campaign on principles of conservatism from the Ronald Reagan administration. This year, he has made eight trips to Iowa and established the super PAC “Committed to America.” Pence joins a crowded GOP primary field that features Scott, DeSantis, and Christie as top contenders.

2023.06.08 10:33 Inevitable_Minute_38 Cohabitation Dilemma

Dear Reverend Fathers,
My girlfriend had a child with her ex partner out of wedlock and they never married. When I met her, she was struggling financially to pay for her rent, her child’s rent (they were staying separately), and the nanny’s salary. She’s also a baptised Catholic albeit non-practising.
She had a very unfortunate past. On the other hand, her child was not well taken care of by the nanny.
When I met her, I felt compassionate toward her and her child. I was worried that she might take up immoral jobs to make ends meet. I was also worried that her child might grow up being a dysfunctional person. I fear if I don’t help this mother and child, the Lord will cast me away from Him on the Day of Judgment. So I wanted to help her as the Lord commanded us to care for the least amongst us.
However, I could not sponsor her financially. So, I foolishly invited her and her son to move in to my place so that her financial burdens might be eased and her child might get to feel what’s it like to have a family.
Later only did I realised that my compassion was twisted by the devil to make me end up in a state of mortal sin.
We have been staying together for six months. The child even calls me papa as I care for the child like my own day and night.
Shall I evict this mother and child so that I may be holy? Doesn’t that make me a Pharisee?
I cannot afford to move out of my place.
Marriage is an option. But my relationship with my girlfriend is shaky as she spends most of her time working instead of caring for her child. She also disapproves me for spending too much time in church (mass, ministry, BEC, Holy Hour, etc). We often get into conflicts because I could not stand her for being so worldly and uncaring of her own child while she could not stand me for being so involved with church. I tried to encourage her to at least to follow me to mass as she is a baptised Catholic but she refused. I’m afraid we might not end up getting married as I desire a wife who loves God above everything else.
Before we met, I was discerning the priesthood. But during the period of discernment, I was plagued with loneliness and envy as most of my friends are married and many are already parents. I was also afraid that the priesthood might not be my calling so I wanted to test myself. So I prayed fervently for a partner and I met this woman who later revealed to me that she had a child out of wedlock.
I had a taste of what’s it like to have a family albeit in an incomplete sense. But my heart still desires the priesthood. I’m not sure if it’s because things are not working well between us or if God is really calling me to the Holy Orders.
What should I do now? I’m really confused.
Also, can I still take Holy Communion after confessing my sins to a priest? I will try my best to be chaste but this is still scandal.

2023.06.08 10:06 Djh1982 John MacArthur Attempts to Explain[1 Timothy 2:13-15]: A Catholic’s Response

The passage in question reads:
“For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.”-1 Tim.2:13-15
One user asked:
”What can this possibly mean? Given that Paul has always been saying it(salvation) is through faith.”
A helpful user responded with an answer posited by John MacArthur. Mac, sensing that this passage was a threat to sola-fide(and rightfully so) springs into action and attributes the word “saved” to be referring to “salvation from a stigma” as opposed to it being about salvation from “sin” itself. Mac writes:
“Paul is not advocating that women are eternally saved from sin through childbearing or that they maintain their salvation by having babies, both of which would be clear contradictions of the NT teaching of salvation by grace alone through faith alone (Ro 3:19, 20) sustained forever (Ro 8:31–39). Paul is teaching that even though a woman bears the stigma of being the initial instrument who led the race into sin, it is women through childbearing who may be preserved or freed from that stigma by raising a generation of godly children (cf. 5:10).”
He concludes with:
“Paul is speaking in general terms; God does not want all women to be married (1Co 7:25–40), let alone bear children. if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. The godly appearance, demeanor, and behavior commanded of believing women in the church (vv. 9–12) is motivated by the promise of deliverance from any inferior status and the joy of raising godly children.”
So Mac chalks it up to being salvation “from a stigma” or “deliverance from an inferior status” and leaves it at that. Problem solved, right?
Wrong.
Mac’s answer has only succeeded in kicking the can further down the road, for we see it rear it’s ugly head yet again in Paul’s letter to the Romans:
(Romans 2:6-7)
“God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.”
Well now we have a real problem. How could doing “good works” result in salvation? You see quick-fixes about damaged reputations may be able to plug one hole but it can’t plug them all. We only see this statement by Paul being doubled-down upon by St.John:
(Revelation 22:12)
““Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”
What can we do? We have already exhausted Mac’s “stigma” explanation so we may not return to that well. We must ask ourselves:
Is there ANOTHER way to understand Paul’s meaning in [1 Timothy 2:13-15]?
Yes, of course there is….and it’s the simplest thing in the world that the Catholic Church has been teaching for 2,000 years—we are NOT justified by our faith alone:
(James 2:24)
“As you can see, a man is justified by his deeds and NOT by faith alone.”
It is not enough to have faith but no deeds. No charity. For as Paul says:
(1 Corinthians 13:2)
“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”
That’s why Paul says a woman will be saved through child-bearing. He doesn’t mean “saved from a stigma” he means “saved from sin”. It’s not about having or not having children strictly speaking, just as it was never about what goes into your body:
(Matthew 15:11)
“What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
For God…it’s always about why you’re doing what it is that you’re doing. It’s always about that. If you wish to be saved then it’s not enough to have “faith alone”—you must combine your faith with works of charity. Therefore Paul’s use of the phrase “saved in child-bearing” is not a theological problem that needs to be solved. We just need to understand that Paul was connecting these “charitable works” to Christ, who enables us to do them:
(John 15:5)
““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
[1 Timothy 2:13-15] is not about “stigmas” or “damaged reputations”. It’s not about any of those things. It’s about meriting salvation through the good works God causes us to do:
(Philippians 2:13)
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
God causes us to “will and to act” and obeying these things will “save us” because “eternal life” is going to be rendered according to those deeds👇:
(Colossians 3:24)
“since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord AS A REWARD. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
We don’t need to solve this problem, we simply need to do these kind of works.

2023.06.08 09:53 Craft_Assassin This is why I left Crossroads Church

For context, I am a Catholic that got invited to Crossroads Church, a born-again ministry, back then in July 2022 here in Cebu when I was having a difficult phase in life. I was invited from a reformed schoolmate who used to do drugs, alcohol, not attend classes, and bully others. He is a pleasant person now and his transformation made him closer to God.
I was paired with a Cell Leader who is a good man at heart. His wife is a pastora in that ministry as well. I know that my Cell Leader is a good man with the best intentions.
By October, I started thinking twice about it because the church started asking many things from me such as my time, tithing, joining Life Class, and joining Life Coaching. They really plan to convert young people to become born-again Christians. In fact, many of the youth that join Crossroads are Catholics that are either curious or having a difficult phase in life. It got toxic to the point wherein the diehard pastors would demand we devote our Fridays to our respective cell groups, Saturdays for the youth praise worship, and Sunday for the Sunday service. I couldn't do this because I already have pre-planned some of my what limited weekends there were in my calendar.
Around November 2022, one of the newest members of our cell group is a known diehard. His story is that he used to be a former sacristan of a Catholic Church. He later left the Catholic church because of its corruption, worship of Saints and Mary, and the fact "Why does one get absolved of sin when he/she sacrifices?". He even stated that he got heartbroken because he allegedly broke up with his girlfriend. He was left to wonder until one person came to him and presented him a phamplet for Gravity, the youth ministry of Crossroads Church. That's when he joined Crossroads.
He's a nasty individual and he's proud to say that he is a diehard Christian who doesn't care being called out as a "weirdo" or an "extremist". At one point, he called out two of my cell groupmates (both being former Catholics) for doing un-Christian things.
First guy he called out, a waiter for a restaurant:
The second guy he called out is a banker:
This asshole went so far as to say all religions are false. That Catholicism is a cult, Islam is a cult, Buddhism is a cult, etc.
He also tried to convince me NOT to celebrate the ultimate Sinulog comeback last January because it is "parading an image". Even though my purpose for celebrating Sinulog was to meet friends who may not be around by 2024 as many of them will leave the country. Keep note Cebu has been waiting for the return of Sinulog since 2020 due to the pandemic and on the personal note, six years for me because (Sinulog 2017-2020 wasn't as fun because there was a no-street party rule. I didn't go to Sinulog 2018 because I was in medical school, and there was no Sinulog in 2021 and 2022 because of the pandemic). There are diehard Christians from other born-again ministries every Sinulog that do militant street preaching in the middle of the fun festival. Often times, their preaching comes out as harassment to the festival goers. For him and the diehards, anything fun = earthly/worldly = sin because it is not "honoring Christ". In other words, even if you are in Sinulog to experience Cebu's culture or just to enjoy a street party, you are committing a sin.
I was roped into Life Class last February since they timed it onto the Friday cell group meeting. I didn't even consent to it. The Life Class is a 10-week session with one-class held every Friday. Looking at the calendar, the Life Class would have ended in the middle week of May. I already had planned out my vacations for the Summer of 2023.
I was then roped into joining the Encounter, wherein we are supposed to meet Jesus and experience the Holy Spirit. The Encounter took one whole weekend that spanned from 8 am to 5 pm (but we got late, because on the first day it ended at 8 pm). The fee was also 500 pesos. During the Encounter, they asked as thithing four times and I only have enough for myself since my salary is very menial. One of the diehard pastors there were asking us to fully devote our lives to this Church and invite two people every Sunday so that there will be more disciples of Christ. The diehard pastor went so far to say to decline all fun things and outings such as if you have a relative from abroad coming and wants to go to the beach on Sunday, we will have to decline because our priority is with the Church itself. We then had the typical Encounter activities. We also had things that are forbidden to do in their eyes such as celebrating festivals (Sinulog being their primary target), going to concerts, listening to rock and pop music, partying, pornography, gambling, drugs, alcoholism, practicising witchcraft, and the like. While I agree gambling, drugs, pornography, and witchcraft are bad, it's way too much to restrict people from watching concerts or going to street parties.
After the Encounter last March, I just ran away and never returned. I essentially ghosted them but later explained to them I was leaving the church. The cell leader was saddened because he's a good man and he really wanted me to be a disciple. We even finished Change 12 between October to December 2022. In other words, the cell leader was beginning to invest in me. I just couldn't stand the toxicity and the diehard fundamentalists in that ministry; my cell leader not one of them (he is a cool guy).
Anyways that's my take. Feel free to comment.
Apologies for the long post. Had to let this out.
