I was wondering, how much of an impact a university has on someones CV who already has working experience. I am 36, i graduated from an unknown small uni in the balkans in international relations, and i decided to apply to a good uk uni for an msc this year, and i got in, to my surprise. I was wondering if that is going to make a difference, because i find it difficult to find work. I have had professionals check my cv, but nothing changed, its very competitive out there. I work in banking, and the msc i got into is an executive msc in management at LSE. Is this something that can make my cv more employable? What do you think?

M22 here. I saw a recent post about someone who is struggling with being sex addicted and constantly needing validation through sex, so I decided I will be the Ying to that Yang. One is NSFW, one is trying to be.
It seems to me that many virgins struggle with a feeling of low self-worth, and I struggled with that too for a while, but I think my issue now is more "fear of the outside" rather than hatred of the inside. I do not really hate myself for being a virgin or think it makes me "unworthy" in some way. I grew up a muslim country where sex before marriage is frowned upon, then moved to another pretty asexual country (Japan), except here I didn't even know the language. Also 2.5 of my 4 years of university got snapped away by COVID, so I've only really been meeting people on campus for about 0.5 years. So it's like no wonder.
The title says it all. I am afraid that people will not respect me, or will think of me as "lesser" because I'm a virgin. While reading the post of the sex addicted dude, a good part of me was thinking "Damn, so this is what people struggle with. I must be really behind. Shit, people are going to hate me or think I'm a weirdo"
This is a specific manifestation of a general paranoia I have that people are "out to get me". I made a post about it a few days ago. I am aware that 90% of people don't care about some rando's virginity, but for some reason I think that everyone is out to get me specifically.
Even while writing this out I notice my brain going "Yeeees, if they think you have a good excuse for being a virgin, they won't bully you! What? No! Don't write this part!!!" It's like wtf bro, no they wouldn't anyways. "But they would!!! Don't you remember getting bullied in grade school!!?!!?!"
So what should I do to combat this paranoia? I find that the fastest cure is reassurance (which is probably what I'm really trying to get with this post), but I do not want to become reliant on it, and I'm not about to ask my friends "Hey, do you hate me for being a virgin?"

By noon in New York, Coinbase shares had fallen nearly 12% and the options, which had been bought for 18 cents each, traded for as much as $1 — a gain of almost 460% if sold at the peak.

Backstory:
I have developed a program/website that is able to interact with a system/website that my university uses and automate multiple aspects.
Main story:
I am a student and work at the student part-time (tech support), and about a month ago, I showed the prototype to my boss right after it had been tested by a friend or mine to see if it worked for other people as well (which it did).
Two weeks ago my boss informed me that the university's dept that oversee the system my prototype interacts with was very interested in having a meeting with me.
I got a call from my boss yesterday informing me that they could drop by today and check out the prototype if possible, to which I said yes.
Well, they came and introduced themselves; 3 in total. One was HR and two from IT. I showed them the prototype and how it worked, explained the different steps it took etc and they were quite happy about it. They asked a few questions on how it operated and wanted to know if the system needed oversight etc.
They thanked me and went on their way, but here's where the story gets interesting!
When I was about to leave work today, my boss spoke with a colleague who have heard about the conversation regarding my prototype and he (a senior employee for the university) congratulated me and asked how much they had offered to pay me - to which I replied with a joke of "$10m". My boss joined in and said something along the lines of: "at the very least $10", but then said that they were seeking approval of an offer from up the chain (which I had no clue about) and a budget?
Now what is going on here? Are they offering to buy the project / contract me to get the project into service?
I can probably ask, but I feel a bit ashamed to ask since A) I don't want to appear greedy and B) I should probably know more but my boss is a pro at leaving key information out by mistake...
How should I go about this issue? Any help is appreciated!!

I’m seeking advice on behalf of one of my best friends. She’s been a postdoc at a top-tier medical school for the past two years. She brought her own funding and was very productive as a graduate student (many awards, several first author pubs, talks at international conferences, etc.), but her postdoc experience has been subpar. For some context, her grad school advisor was pretty overbearing and demanding, and actually had a big hand in who she chose to do a postdoc with.
Her advisor seems very disinterested in actually providing any mentorship and instead criticizes her for not being able to do new techniques perfectly. My friend tries to bring new ideas to the table, make adjustments, seek out solutions, etc. but just gets shot down. Instead of letting her work on other projects, she “punishes” her by just telling her to read papers for weeks on end. In general she seems like a textbook micromanager who sees her lab as just a publication factory.
We’ve talked through lots of options and she’s in an area with lots of biotech + other universities, so she has no shortage of options. I’ve known her for 8 years and the entire time she’s been steadfast in her desire to be a PI. I think she has what it takes, but it’s being beaten out of her by this shitty experience. I’ve enjoyed being a postdoc in large part due to how great my mentors are — working with them has helped combat some of the awful parts of being a postdoc and helped me overcome some of my own bad experiences in grad school, and would love for her to have a similar mentor relationship.
She and I have talked a lot and I think the biggest barrier for her right now is getting over the (reasonable) fear of seeking out a new mentor and switching labs/projects. We’ve talked a lot about industry and I think she’d do great moving out of academia (which is where I’m leaning), but I also want her to feel more agency in the decision and not entirely like she’s getting pushed out. So…at this point I’m trying to crowdsource some advice and perspectives to help with next steps.
For those of you who switched postdoc labs, how did it work out? Would you do it again? How did you navigate finding a new position and did you have to burn bridges? I’m especially curious to hear from anyone who had to navigate switching their NIH funding to a new PI/institution.
For those of you who stuck it out in shitty labs, same question: did it work out and would you do it again? Any advice for making your situation better?
And for anyone on hiring committees: how do you feel about candidates who have switched postdoc labs?

So I recently got a new job working as a finance assistant for a university. It’s my first default 9-5 style job as previously I had worked a lot of agency positions chasing higher hourly rates but figured out a consistent pay schedule would be better in the long run for FI.
The university I am with offer a Pension Scheme over and above the regular workplace pension. Since this is my first time having this option I wasn’t sure which was best to choose.
So for context the workplace pension has it that I put in 5% and the University matches it as 5% totalling 10%
The pension scheme however has me contributing 7.77% but they contribute 17.93% for a total of 25.7%
Initially I thought this was a no brainier but after reading into the details I noticed that I cannot claim my pension scheme until I turn 65 rather than the 55 with the workplace pension.
Given that I am aiming to FIRE somewhere around 50 (Not that early I know but for now I’m being realistic) would it be better to go for the workplace pension.
65 just seems so far away compared to 55. Even if I live until 85 I’m only getting use of it for 20 years 🤷‍♂️

Ok, I know for a fact I don't have any taxes due with NY at the moment. I paid my balance off Sunday night, and that was taken from my bank account.
They are still trying to debit another payment, even though nothing is due. I have triple checked at this point.
I'm going to call them later, but anyone else have this happen? Was trying to get ahead of the game so the money didn't sit in my bank, but now I'm just annoyed.
I know NY tax payment system is also pretty damn slow to update.
