I'm thinking the way I would bridge this gap would be in my Motivation letter to the admissions committee, though I wouldn't know how to begin approaching it and selling myself to be suited towards anything related to Financial maths. Rumors swirled in London now, that the Prince had locked himself away in York Castle and was surrounded by armed men — or was it an army? Buckingham had refused to leave Staffordshire as well, though Norfolk knew not why, and Bainbridge too remained with Henry. Only Margaret had arrived south, the respected Queen Mother being annoyed at how Norfolk had convened the council a day before her arrival — and intended to set out, with Norfolk’s blessing, back up north, to speak to her grandson and bring an end to this nonsense.

Basically what it says on the title. I graduated with a Math degree from a top university with averages grades on the whole (a UK second upper). After coasting for about a year, I want to start applying to graduate Actuary/Quant programs. The main problem I have now is selling myself to admission committees with almost no exposure to finance-related experience.
In university, I took mostly straight math classes. I do have a couple Statistics modules that I did well in, as well as some in Probability, and I have extensive coding experience. However, nothing about my experiences/qualifications thus far has anything finance/economics related, and while I plan to do some internships before the start of any grad school, I really don't think that can be reflected in my application and suitability for the Masters programs at the moment. I do have some Professional qualifications for Data-Analytics, but the leap from that to Finance seems tenuous at best.
I'm thinking the way I would bridge this gap would be in my Motivation letter to the admissions committee, though I wouldn't know how to begin approaching it and selling myself to be suited towards anything related to Financial maths. What is it on your application that would be able to convince an admissions office to let you transition from Math to Acturial/Quant? Did anyone here have the same academic or career trajectory? I was reading a person's life account he was in love with his high school best friend(16M) at the age of 14 it went on for two years after that somehow his parent caught him and beated him up and then he and his family moved away to another state but before going he promised he would return when it would be safe. But due to religious(Mormon) influence or whatever he married a woman at 25 and lived happily for 40 years had two kids ( the initial 23 years he had already came out to his wife). His wife died in around 8-9 (when he was 60 years old) efore but before death his wife gave himp permission to come out publicly and go and be with the person he loved so after her death he morned her for 1-2 years and then after recovering he went in search for his lover. He found his family who told him that his lover had come out after his graduation and he only loved him and was waiting for him till his death( almost for 45 years he waited until he died due to some dieseas).After hearing this the person claims that he was very sad and he then went on to marry another man and live happily every after.
This broke my heart and envy this person who got such a love who was ready to wait for him even till death.

I'm almost completely new to Linux, but have been exploring getting away from Windows for some time, including running a whole bunch of VMs to figure out what I like, and paying attention to Linux news and events over the past months. I'm looking to start dual-booting as soon as I have the free time to set it up, and have a few questions regarding distros and gaming.
In case it matters, I'm running a Ryzen 5600x and Nvidia 3060.
(And yes, all of this will be opinions, I'm cool with that. Opinions based on experience are very welcome.)
Nobara - Although Glorious Eggroll seems to be incredibly reliable, I'm hesitant to put my trust into a one-man operation. Something could happen to the guy tomorrow, and maintenance would be completely up in the air. Is there anything done in Nobara that I couldn't do via post-install tweaks to Fedora? Is the performance just that much better, or is it generally minor?
Fedora/Nobara - I like KDE far more than Gnome, and I don't particularly care for some of the direction that Ubuntu seems to move in. That said, I know that a lot of tutorials are writted around apt and Ubuntu, and a lot of software/drivers is targeted at the Ubuntu side. As a newbie, would I be making things a lot harder for myself by going in this direction? Should I just suck it up and use Kubuntu?
OpenSUSE - With their custom ways of doing things (zypper, YaST) it seems like it might be the above issue but moreso. And yet they have good-seeming documentation, including gaming-specific info and repos. Is there any particular reason to choose OpenSUSE over Fedora or vice versa?
(And in case it comes up, I have no interest in Arch based systems at this time. I'm not experienced enough to tackle things yet, and I have no desire for a rolling release. Maybe once I'm a few years down the road, but not now.)

Nobara - Although Glorious Eggroll seems to be incredibly reliable, I'm hesitant to put my trust into a one-man operation. Something could happen to the guy tomorrow, and maintenance would be completely up in the air. Is there anything done in Nobara that I couldn't do via post-install tweaks to Fedora? Is the performance just that much better, or is it generally minor?

To be honest, I've never been a fan of the idea of joining groups or going to church every week, even when I used to believe in God (I've been an atheist for a year now) and I have terrible social anxiety.
I always rejected their invitations and I thought that after a while they would stop but they didn't, I even started receiving messages from some of their church members. It got very awkward because I'd accept invitations to hang out at the mall or whatever but reject anything related to church.
It got to the point where they would only message me to invite me to some church related stuff. Like they wouldn't message me for casual conversations anymore. And it seems like they don't even want to talk to me anymore because I texted them recently and they didn't even care about continuing the conversation.
If I tell them that I'm an atheist she is probably going to cut me off. It's taboo to be an atheist in my country.

For context, my boyfriend is part of a old school skinhead group (not the neo nazi kind but a group that fights against racism and misogyny). Through the time we’ve been together I’ve gotten to meet these people and build a good friendship with who was the president. Today we found out he was found dead in his home. Suicide. I didn’t know him as well as my boyfriend did but it still hurts.

Hi there. It’s about 2 am now. I fell asleep for a few hours from about 7 until now, and I feel a little more capable of stringing words together now. Let’s see if I can tell you a little more about what’s going on.
Yesterday was my first day working a full 9-5 work shift since mid-January, and maybe that contributed to some of the unpleasantness I was feeling. I’ve been living on savings for 2 full months, which is something I’ve never been able to comfortably do before. I spent a lot of February applying for about 400 jobs. I guess you could say I’m a little picky, and the employers are picky too—as they have a right to be—the kind of salary I’m asking for is a lot of money and a lot of labor being offered in exchange, and it makes sense that both parties would be careful and thoughtful before entering into such a contract. I was so busy with school in March that I only applied for a dozen jobs here and there. That actually led to one job offer at a decent middle-class rate, but I had to turn it down because although it’s a lot of money, it’s just not enough to sustain my expenses.
At this point, I’m only a few weeks away from being able to qualify again for another attempt at some selective computer coding screening exams at some independent contractor websites I’ve been looking at. I tried those tests in late January and early February and passed a few of them but overall didn’t make the cut because the kinds of Python skills those tests are screening for are not really taught in school. It’s something called competitive programming which I would have to study for outside of school. There’s a mandatory 3 month waiting period after you fail the test, but 2 months of that have already passed. It seems like I have the ability to get a W-2 job through a recruiter that I have a relationship with, but I’m so close to the second round of exams that it might make sense to just focus on that and hold out for retaining 1099 status. 1099 tax status is nice because then I can deduct all kinds of expenses associated with my life from my taxes. My life is so costly in random ways, and it would be nice to keep track of that and deduct it. For example, I pay $200 per month for a parking garage. If I file taxes in 1099 status, I get to deduct that as a business expense because it’s an expense supporting my Lyft driving—I’ve spent $600 on garages so far this year, and my mileage tracker says I’ve earned $1000 worth of mileage deductions too. If you add in car insurance as a business expense, my insurance has usually been $500-$600 per month, so that’s another $1,500 to $2,000, putting me at about $3,000 in expenses that can be deducted from my gross revenue, so far, and that’s not even accounting for a long list of other expenses I’ve been keeping track of with the computer coding side of things. So it may make sense to really focus on trying to get a 1099 job through the coding websites.
I think I’ll be able to sustain myself fine through Lyft and Doordash for the month of April. I have less clear of a vision of what I would do if I fail the coding tests again and can’t take those until July or August. I don’t need to figure that all out tonight. As far as Lyft, it seems like if I work all day and make $200 a day and work every day, I could earn $6,000 gross per month, which is not quite at six-figures level, but close enough. I’m capable of working all day every day, and I did so during Georgetown. There’s a question of whether the extent to which I’ve gotten older or the extent to which my current problems are different from my previous problems would affect things.
I know I had a really hard time today while driving. I had a very traumatic week. My relationship with my best friend is probably over, and my relationship with the friend group where I met him is definitely over. I know that I feel physically disgusted by the discontinuity between the promise of what that friend group portends to be—a peer support space for Mad persons—and what the place has turned out to be—a place with apparently limitless amounts of contempt for me as someone who is more likely to use Mad with a capital M as an identifier rather than mentally ill or any of the other psychiatrically-influenced, iatrogenic terms connoting weakness, illness, subalternity, aberration, etc. The amount of hatred I received from others there, about a week ago, makes me upset and concerned, especially because the majority of it comes from people who lurked and never spoke or participated in daily discussions. It makes me feel like hatred was just sitting there seething and I didn’t or was never going to realize it until I accidentally stumbled upon it by acting on my observation that my best friend and I were in a codependency.
Back in early February, when I was absolutely terrified about the recession and anticipated that my life was going to become more unstable, I did a self-administered EMDR session to calm down and help me find strength within myself. The two realizations that came out of that were that I am capable of creating self-employment (by generating a stock market trading robot smart enough to beat the market) and that my best friend and I were in a co-dependency. I ended up being so busy with school that I didn’t have much time to focus on the stock market robot, and I lost faith that beating the market to an extent that would be a short-term supporting income was realistic. But I ended up being able to support myself on savings anyway, without doing any work, which surprised me. And I never expected that I would have acted on my observation that my best friend and I were a codependency. I never had any plans to act on it, but apparently the observation was powerful enough. Life itself presented situations that demanded I act in self-defense against codependency patterns. I feel bad because my best friend doesn’t seem to be on the same page about the idea that we are a codependency, and when I have sat down to try to present the idea, it didn’t seem right to launch into a detailed lecture of all the reasons that I would call us a codependency. So I tried to be gentle.
It seems like when I sit down and fully lay out all of my perspectives about codependency and everything else associated with therapy, as well as my thoughts about Mad Studies and mad pride, it doesn’t sit very well with either my best friend or the group where I met him. That’s hard news and makes me sad. I had felt like I was a reasonable fit for that social setting, but if both my best friend and the group as a whole have been biting their lips and holding back all this contempt for me and my viewpoints this whole time, then clearly I didn’t actually belong there, and it’s very dangerous that a codependency was at the center of making me sit docile in a room of vituperative hatred and not realize that I was in danger.
I absolutely love my best friend, so much, and it’s really hard for me to deal with the fact that he’s gone. I think the idea of identifying and ending a codependency was the far upper extreme stretch goal limit of any of the explicit training I got from therapy, and I’m really in new territory that I never have experienced before.
That brings me to pretty much where I am now and how I felt last night when I wasn’t able to speak. You know, two things are true. One, if I earn $200 per day every day from now through Friday, that’s enough to pay for both my car payment and rent without cutting into my savings, which would be awesome. Two, it might be really nice for me to take a break on Sunday and just spend the whole day in bed—not even going to polo.
I know that I am in so much pain without my best friend being there anymore. I’ve written so much today, and I don’t know that I have the energy to write more in this post about the feeling. I just thought that he was the best friend I had ever met in life. More to say but I think that was my writing sprint for now.

I (17M) had a solid and profound relationship with a female friend (17F) in high school. However, things started going downhill as late when I found out that she was sharing private info that I trusted her with and lied about it when confronted while secretly trying to hook up with my friends. When others asked me why she shared your DMs, I felt ashamed—ashamed for trusting her with private matters, especially since this was the third time that something like this had happened between us.
During my winter break, when I moved schools, things only got worse from there. She had spread miss information about me and had even attempted to get my friends to turn on me, all this while trying to get with my friends in secret for no reason.
It's become quite clear to me that she's a pathological liar and a manipulator who doesn't feel remorse for others, even while toying with them. While I wouldn't like to hold grudges, I had given her many chances with no success. To make matters worse, I recently learned about her past behaviour, which included lying about her mental health which should not be taken lightly. This would later lead to getting the cops called on a few of her previous friends as a joke.
Despite all this, she mentioned that I was welcome to come over to her house. So should I still end this friendship and cut off ties with her?

Academically, Cal Poly seems like the obvious choice, but I'm a little bit unsure if it's worth going to a school with the main focus being STEM. I plan on going to law school at some point, so I just thought that English was a solid major, although I know that your major doesn't really matter when applying, I just thought it would be more helpful. CSUN is much, much cheaper, I get to stay home since I'm like 20-30 minutes away, and it's not a bad school by any means. Cost is pretty important to me because spending so much money on an English major doesn't feel right. Plus I'm wondering how many internship opportunities there are in a small town like SLO. I like that you get to engage with the professors, which should help with letters of rec. Someone please enlighten me and help me out, thank you.

Hey. I'm a Zoomer (Born after 2001) and I grew up in a upper-middle-class suburb in Ontario. I remember growing up, before I was like ten ,whenever I wanted to do anything with my friends, especially on the weekend, my Mother would make a big deal about organizing a "Playdate" basically I had to ask my friend if he could ask his Mom, if I could come over on Saturday to play. Then his Mom would have to call my Mom, and they'd organize the details from there. Then I'd get dropped off, and we'd do whatever 2010s kids did (For us we actually spent a good amount of time in the backyard, fucking around with Nerf guns(Which were 100% banned from my household) and like Supersoakers. We'd also play Video Games, which I guess like pretty much any kid born post 1975 would have.
Now as I got older, My Mom started to shift her Opinion on this. I think it was when I was 10, that I started just hanging out at my Friends place after school everyday uninvited. Like we'd usually hangout around his block mostly, but we'd go into his house to get like snacks or pop. and his brother would be there too , and we'd be playing baseball(With empty Gatorade bottles) and other fun shit. and There'd always be this Korean kid who was his neighbor who'd always shoehorn himself into everything(Everyone knew a kid that like that)
But...I still had a few friends my age whom kept this "Playdate" system for a little too long. One of them was a only child with wealthy parents, and the other was the a kid who's parents divorced when he was young, and was raised by a single Mother. I don't think I visited his house casually without any-kind of planned meeting, till like Grade 7 or Grade 8. His Mom would do these photo-shoots with him and his brother every year. The photos were EVERYWHERE, like in every room of the house.
Anyways, I guess my question is for all the Millennials or even Gen Xers who might be on here. Is this "Playdate" stuff a recent Zoomer thing? Was meeting up with friends less regimented 20-30 years ago?

Now as I got older, My Mom started to shift her Opinion on this. I think it was when I was 10, that I started just hanging out at my Friends place after school everyday uninvited. Like we'd usually hangout around his block mostly, but we'd go into his house to get like snacks or pop. and his brother would be there too , and we'd be playing baseball(With empty Gatorade bottles) and other fun shit. and There'd always be this Korean kid who was his neighbor who'd always shoehorn himself into everything(Everyone knew a kid that like that)
But...I still had a few friends my age whom kept this "Playdate" system for a little too long. One of them was a only child with wealthy parents, and the other was the a kid who's parents divorced when he was young, and was raised by a single Mother. I don't think I visited his house casually without any-kind of planned meeting, till like Grade 7 or Grade 8. His Mom would do these photo-shoots with him and his brother every year. The photos were EVERYWHERE, like in every room of the house.
Anyways, I guess my question is for all the Millennials or even Gen Xers who might be on here. Is this "Playdate" stuff a recent Zoomer thing? Was meeting up with friends less regimented 20-30 years ago?

Here’s your weekly overview of Game of Throw-Ins, the only league with the guts to ask the question, “What if the English Premier League counted throw-ins instead of goals?” and the weird obsessiveness to answer it.
A few postponements this week meant that the top three teams of Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton & Hove Albion all had to sit patiently while games went on around them. Fulham and West Ham were caught up in that too, and they’ll both have to wait a while longer before making moves to take 3rd place away from their rivals at BHA.
The highest-ranked team to actually play a match this week was 6th-place Leeds United, who fumbled their second game in a row, allowing Wolverhampton Wanderers to break their six-game losing streak. There were absolute scenes at St. Mary’s Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur lost 17-11 to Southampton, in what could be called an upset if Spurs weren’t so consistently inconsistent. Well done to the Saints.
Manchester United and Bournemouth hold onto their placings for another week, while Brentford leapfrog Leicester City and Arsenal after bagging a 23-19 win over Leicester. Nottingham Forest makes sure to beat Newcastle United and move up a spot, while Wolves’ victory over Leeds launches them over Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and into 14th place.
Aston Villa’s 18-13 win against Bournemouth doesn’t change their placing this round, but it brings them within a single point of both Chelsea and Crystal Palace. They’ll be aiming to secure a win next week to challenge those spots - but so will Everton, who are sitting right behind them. Southampton’s victory against Spurs puts them up a spot to 19th, but that’s about it. No team has exited the bottom four since Nottingham Forest made their escape in Round 23 - will anyone else be able to follow suit? That remains to be seen.
Well, that wraps up Game of Throw-Ins for this week.
