I love my parents but also hate them

2023.06.10 11:20 cloudy-eyed I love my parents but also hate them

tw: self-harm, suicidal thoughts
Recently went to a therapy session and had some old memories dug back up.
My parents constantly talked down on me, degraded and humiliate me any chance they get. I was always told I had huge flaws, that I’d never be accepted by society, that I’d never be loved by anyone else except my parents. I believed all of it because I didn’t have anyone else to tell me otherwise.
When I was 14 I had enough and I took a blunt paper cutter and cut my arms in front of my parents. I don’t know why I did it, I just remember feeling so much emotional pain and the only way I knew how to relieve it was by inflicting physical pain on myself.
My mum just stared at me in disappointment and said, “You’re so dramatic, you used to do the same thing when you were a kid you know? Always used to scratch your arms until it bled. Stop being a victim.” And my dad also just stared at my bloody arms in disgust wordlessly, not even bothering to comment. I felt numb and utterly crushed. How can the people who birthed and raised me be so cruel? How could they not stop me even when I was hurting myself when I was a kid?
Then, my mum said, “Get a hold of yourself and stop bothering me,” and she just turn around to watch TV. I didn’t react and just got myself some bandages and wrapped it messily around my arms, not even bothering to clean it. I felt like a waste of space, subhuman garbage not worth living, I don’t even deserve to breathe air.
I should hate them, I should cut them off. But my brain just remembers all the good times. The times when they would take me to the park and play on the swings, or when they would sometimes buy a piece of my favourite cheesecake for me, or when they would offer to pay for my education. They raised me and provided me with food and shelter, but they also sometimes treat me like an emotional punching bag.
I don’t know how to feel. I should hate them but I still love them. It sucks to feel such conflicting strong emotions. I wish it was easier and I could just wholeheartedly hate them without feeling guilt. I can just hope that someday I’ll be emotionally stable enough to permanently cut them off from my life.

2023.06.10 03:47 TitaniumElemental48 [WTS] Benchmade Barrage & Mini-Griptilian, CRKT Squid II Limited-Run, Spyderco Shaman, Gerber/Buck Budget Bundle

Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/LGU54ev
Benchmades – Both were picked up at various times at REI garage sales. So I am technically the second owner for both knives.
Benchmade Barrage SV: $89 shipped (CONUS)
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/xZe0Fxt
• Has 154CM blade (partially serrated).
• Never disassembled by me.
• Centering looks to favor the show side just a little bit.
• Sharp, but not razor sharp.
• Clip definitely shows wear from being carried
• There are a few scratches on either side of the blade.
• There is also an “X” that was cut into the show side scale with, I assume, a box cutter (that’s how the store marked it as a non-returnable garage sale item).
• I carried it and used it lightly for a few months.
• Comes with original box and BM baggie
Benchmade Mini-Griptilian SV: $70 shipped (CONUS)
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/0qKmTZg
• Has 154CM blade (partially serrated with black finish)
• Never disassembled by me
• Blade is centered, and action is ok
• Sharp, not razor sharp
• Clip has a lot of wear from being carried
• Blade has some scratches on either side and the black finish has started to wear in a few places
• Both scales were also marked with an “X” using, I assume, a box cutter near the bottom of the axis lock (how the store marked it as a non-returnable garage sale item)
• Carried and used lightly by me for a few months
• No Box or baggie
CRKT Squid II SV: $175 shipped (CONUS)
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/lE5sRw7
• Limited-run of 500
• M390 Blade
• Green Micarta scales
• First Owner
• Never disassembled
• Blade is centered and has factory edge
• Only carried a handful of times and never really used (has cut a few pieces of paper). Mostly just fidgeted with around the house.
• No signs of wear on blade or rest of the knife. Micarta scales may be getting just a little patina from said fidgeting.
• Comes with original box and papers
Spyderco Shaman SV: $200 shipped (CONUS)
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/A8Tr3BY
• First Owner
• CPM-S30V DLC Coated Blade
• Never disassembled
• Blade is centered and has factory edge
• Lightly carried and rarely used. Mostly just fidgeted.
• No signs of wear on blade or scales. Clip shows some very light wear from being carried and some of the black finish has come off the show side pivot screw from being carried in pocket.
• Comes with original box and papers.
• Really like the knife overall. I just want a different configuration of it.
GerbeBuck Bundle Knives
As a 4 knife bundle SV: $32 Shipped (CONUS) SOLD as 4 Knife Bundle
As a 4 knife bundle with purchase of an above knife SV: $28 Shipped (CONUS)
Individually with purchase of an above knife for the listed SV
These are all beater budget knives that I don’t use anymore, but maybe someone else can. They all still cut, but all would benefit from being sharpened.
Gerber Bear Grylls Lockback SV: $9
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/EfQi1aO
First owner
Used for a couple of camping trips as a camp knife, so it has some wear. There are scratches on both sides of the blade. There are also a couple dings/scratches on the handle. Comes with nylon GerbeBear Grylls branded belt pouch.
Gerber E-Z Out SV: $9
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/bK9vXci
First owner
Not used very much. Blade centering favors show side and there are a few scuffs in the blade finish on both sides of the blade. Beyond that it’s functional and I don’t see any other blemishes.
Gerber Remix SV: $4
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/wURGfFM
First owner
This knife came packaged with a camp hatchet I bought and I have never used it beyond dropping it once as there are some dings and scratches on the bottom of the scales and a couple on the back on the giant finger hole. Action isn’t particularly good, but could make a good beater knife.
Buck Odyssey I SV: $9
Pics/Vid: https://imgur.com/a/6KW7MOt
First owner
This knife has been used some. There is light scratching on both sides of the blade. Blade is centered, action is ok and I don’t see any blemishes otherwise.

2023.06.09 17:02 ramvanfan Laser cutter or vinyl plotter?

Forgive the stupid question but I’m trying to experiment with some paper crafts on a large scale and wondering if anyone has advice to point me in the right direction. I want to cut large (~3ftx2ft) flower petals and leaves from heavy card stock. Usually we do this on a large bandsaw ten or twelve in a stack. Then we insert wire and laminate two petals with contact glue to build flowers. But I’m curious about automating the process and the ability to use vector files seems promising. Maybe even screen print on the petals before or after cutting. Would a large bed laser cutter be overkill? Maybe a plotter could handle the job better and cheaper? Can either cut in bulk? Or maybe stick to low tech bandsaw? I’d love to hear from anybody with experience in either direction. Thanks!

2023.06.09 01:51 joseph_esq First Rewatch of S1 Reflection (by someone you don’t know!)

my thoughts on the latest watch of season one of the rings. discuss, or don’t. Preface: read all books multiple times; seen the movies a million times.
Pros:
First, the ROP stories are solid on paper. Plot lines of Galadriel and the Elves in Lindon, and trying to forge rings to maintain the elves’ power is well thought out. So too are the plot lines surrounding Elrond and Durin, and the Harfoots. I also appreciated having Sauron in disguise the entire season and trying to redeem himself while simultaneously returning to power. All good things to start.
Additional pros include the soundtrack, fighting/action, visuals and cinematography. All of these were stellar and refreshing for a unique and compelling tone of middle earth during the Second Age.
For these reasons alone, I give a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Cons:
However, some issues need cleanup. First, the whole Bronwyn and Theo characters I did not like. I get the idea of a mother and son trying to do what’s right in an already corrupted land. Again, on paper that checks out. However I think it lost potency in the execution and, to be quite honest, I didn’t find Theo to be very compelling other than a bratty teenager. Pre-teen Kylo Ren.
I did not like the cheap scenes, for example, when Isildur and his buddies get kicked out of the Sea Guard for failing to tie a rope around a knob on a ship. Very plain jane and cookie cutter. And as much as I like Galadriel storyline, her whole “I’m wicked angry and can’t take it anymore” approach once she reaches Numenor seemed hollow. I think the writers need to make us care more about the characters and their purpose. But, they had the difficult task of presenting all these new characters at once and in such short time frame, so leniency is given.
Overall, I didn’t feel as strong a connection with the characters as I would’ve hoped. If anything, I felt the most connection with the Harfoots and their pursuit for doing what’s right with an unaware Gandalf. Can’t say why.
IN SUM:
I continue to give it a four out of five stars as a hugely biased Lord of the rings fan and nerd. It has its flaws, but those flaws are outweighed by so much good.
Jackson’s movies were inconsistent with the books and canon in their own respects. But I was also ages 13-17 when they came out and Reddit didn’t exist. Setting aside the bots and trolls that flock these subs, Bezos did a good job.
The sea is always right.
EDIT: word usage and spelling

2023.06.08 21:43 o_o995 Best option for a small move cross country

Hi everyone!
I almost got scammed by a moving company and found this subreddit. I’m looking for advice on the best way to move from Ohio to Washington for grad school.
I would be moving in late August and my budget is tight so I’m looking for something affordable.
To be honest I don’t have many things to move. It’s just me (and 3 cats) and we will be flying out.
I have some furniture (bed, nightstands and couch, desk) but I am wondering if it would be easier to just sell them. The only items I really want to take are clothes (maybe 10 boxes if I and being generous) and electronics (printer, PS5, Cricut, paper cutter (50 lbs.), 32 in. tv and projector)
Any suggestions on the best way to transport things (and if I should keep the furniture) would be appreciated. Thank you!

2023.06.08 20:26 play987654321 Cheap and easy process-based art projects for children in the summer

Reggio Emilia is a pedagogical philosophy invented by Italian communist and constructivist, Loris Malaguzzi, after WW2. Small Italian towns were given grant money to help rebuild, and Malaguzzi and the Italian families of Reggio Emilia, Italy, used the money to create cooperative, play-based nurseries and childcare centers. The Reggio approach emphasizes child-directed learning, and the art projects I will outline have no right or wrong answers, but are instead meant for children to pursue socially in order to help foster the development of their imaginations and fine motor skills.
You can find really good materials for these projects on your local buy nothing pages, Craigslist’s free section, or in thrift stores.
Here’s just a few projects that are really fun for kids:
Chalk, rubber mallets, water, and paint brushes Give the children chalk outside and let them draw whatever. Then, provide them with rubber mallets to pound the chalk. For older children, you can have them pound the chalk in muffin tins if you want. They will love destroying the chalk. Then, give them squeeze bottles filled with water, or if they’re 6+ you can give them spray bottles. They can then spray the chalk powder to create a paint. Offering them paintbrushes, they can spread the liquid chalk out everywhere, or you can also find them a weird branch or piece of driftwood to paint. They can also wrap the branch in yarn when they’re done painting.
https://imgur.com/gallery/6CMzX0g
Painting: white tarp, paint, toilet brushes, fly swatters, mittens. Tape or weigh down a large, white piece of plastic. Squirt a color of paint on the tarp, and have the kids paint using different implements one by one as you add more colors: fly swatters, toilet brushes, sponges, mittens, fingers, and toes.
You can also put cotton balls on the tarp and have the kids squirt paint onto the cotton balls and then hit the cotton balls with rubber hammers.
Puffy paint Kids can make their own puffy paint by mixing shaving cream, paint, and glue together. You can then help them put that into an icing bag, which they can pipe onto a canvas, paper, or tarp. They can also pipe it into paper muffin liners. It will dry and look like cupcakes.
Model magic, feathers, and plastic dinos or animals Put out a clump of different colors of model magic or clay and ask the kids to cover the plastic toys and decorate them with feathers. Take pictures at the end of the creations and then remove the clay.
https://imgur.com/gallery/vQQOtJD
Clay Leave a big hunk of clay on a table with random materials— beads, feathers, pipe cleaners, rolling pins, rubber mallets, cookie cutters. Let them just make whatever.
There are also so many types of clays you can make, from fluffy play dough, to icing play dough, to quicksand play dough, and the kids can help you make them.
Glue Find a piece of furniture you don’t want anymore, like an old end table. Set it out with Elmer’s glue and a box of random stuff— corks, beads, feathers, string, the caps of dead markers, paper, etc. and let the kids just glue whatever to it.
Dye Get mason jars and pipettes and dye. Water down the dye, and put the pipettes in the jars. Put a tray with salt on the table. Have the kids paint using the pipettes and dyes, and experiment with sprinkling salt on it because it has a cool reaction.
Bubbles and dye Cut plastic bottles in half and put out a tray of bubble fluid mixed with a little bit of dye. You can tape a pantyhose on the end of one of the half-bottles, it will make crazy snake bubbles. Kids can dip the cut end into the bubbles and blow bubbles onto paper.
Sensory tubs Using wood, build a large tub and seal it. Or, get a large, plastic container that stores clothes beneath a bed. You want it flat on the ground so kids can walk into it.
Dry sensory tub experiment A dry sensory tub can have sand, rice (which you can dye multiple colors), or beans. Put objects in the box, like thrifted silver cups and trays, shells, plastic animals, fake flowers, spoons, shovels. You can also put cardboard tubes and masking tape in so they can make chutes, or baking tins.
Wet sensory tub experiments With a wet sensory tub, you can use water and float frozen peas in it, or put water beads in it, or shaving cream, or cups of different water-downed dyes, or styrofoam beads dyed different colors, or homemade slime. In the wet tub, put pippettes, tongs, containers with lids, strawberry baskets, teapots, cups, straws, etc. You can also get fake snow, which is the non-toxic substance that is used to pad diapers. On day 2 of fake snow, let them dye it.

2023.06.08 18:40 OritheGoose I just got an Explore 3 yesterday and I'm having some teething issues.

What is this black that keeps appearing when I upload my design into the space? My vector was made in Procreate and has NO background. The weird black does not appear in the "background remover" on Cricut.
It's only when I press "upload" to actually put the design into the space to play with it that I get these weird black marks appearing. It's done it on every single design I've made so far but tiny and on the spare paper somewhere.
This one is huge and im worried the cut is going to leave black ridges around my sticker meaning I'll have to go in with scissors afterwards which defeats the purpose of paying this much for a cutting machine?
This machine is driving me mad. I've tried making memo pads today and the cut is slightly off despite calibration, leaving tiny white border around my memo pad on 2 sides. It's so thin I can't even cut it off with a paper cutter without fraying. I know I'll get the hang of this lol but I'm a newbie! Sorry 😔

2023.06.08 13:06 middleeast01 Pneumatic knife gate valve in Sharjah

Pneumatic knife gate valve in Sharjah
Middleeast Valve is a well-known supplier of Pneumatic knife gate valve in Sharjah . We supplies different types of valves to different countries like Qatar, Kuwait, Oman. A pneumatic knife gate valve is a type of valve that is used for on/off isolation of flow in pipelines containing fluids with high solids content, such as slurries, powders, or viscous fluids. It operates using a gate or blade that cuts through the fluid, allowing or blocking the flow. The pneumatic actuator controls the movement of the gate to open or close the valve.
How Pneumatic knife gate valve work?
The working principle of a pneumatic knife gate valve is as follows:
1)Valve Closed: In the closed position, the gate or blade is positioned perpendicular to the flow direction, effectively blocking the flow of fluid. The pneumatic actuator keeps the gate in this closed position by applying air pressure to one side of the actuator, which keeps the gate pressed against the valve seat, creating a tight seal.
2)Valve Opening: When compressed air is supplied to the other side of the pneumatic actuator, it applies pressure and moves the actuator, causing the gate to move away from the valve seat and open the valve. As the gate moves, it cuts through the fluid, allowing it to flow through the open space between the gate and the valve body.
3)Valve Adjusting: The pneumatic actuator allows for precise control of the valve opening by regulating the air pressure applied to the actuator. This allows for accurate throttling of the flow rate or positioning the gate at a specific position based on the process requirements.
4)Valve Closing: When the supply of compressed air to the pneumatic actuator is stopped or reversed, the actuator moves in the opposite direction, closing the valve. The gate moves back to its closed position, perpendicular to the flow direction, effectively blocking the flow of fluid and creating a tight seal against the valve seat.

2023.06.08 08:02 naginatax Sick and Tired of Cookie-Cutter Great League Teams Already

I've noticed that the greater majority of players are running the exact same combination of Noctowl, Vigaroth, and what seems like a wildcard choice of any of Obstagoon, Swampert, Lanturn, or Stunfisk (either version). This basically results in a team that rock-paper-scissor's itself when confronted with the inevitable mirror matches, which I GUESS is a feasible strategy, and is probably the result of someone's galaxy brain tier list somewhere.
At this point, I've given up on running a "fun" team, and have just dedicated my existence to making an anti-meta team that's intentionally built around having each 'mon being able to hard-counter 2 of the ones above. While I'm not going to say what I'm running or how it may fare against a team of random stuff (which does appear about...idk...1-in-4 matches?), I'm consistently getting an average of 4 wins per set simply because it demolishes the above team every time it comes up.
My advice for anyone else that's fed up with seeing Noctowl and Vigaroth over and over again is, rather than playing the exact same team because "it's the best one statistically" or whatever, just assume everyone's going to play that team and find something specifically suited to countering it. It will turn the frustration of losing to or mirroring with cookie-cutters into at least mild satisfaction and make PVP a little more enjoyable
...or at least for a couple of weeks until Giratina and Trevenant come back.
