To set the stage my maternal family was/is my moms parents (both deceased within the last year), my moms older sister and husband (deceased almost 2 years), my mom and dad, me and my son, and my younger sister. All but my son(5) are over 30.
I am the only person left in my moms side of the family that actually enjoys cooking. Before my uncle passed away he was a great cook and honestly I learned a lot from him. He had great recipes and him and my aunt (mom's sister) would host elaborate holiday meals and she would help him with everything.
He passed (bless his soul) and my maternal grandparents passed not long after. Since then every holiday, birthday, random "lets all get together", has been on me to figure out.
For examples:
Thanksgiving I got dad to deep fry the turkey, but I had to season it, put it in the pot, and take it out when the timer went off, and then cut it up for serving. All while making sure all the sides prepared were cooked correctly, help my 30 something sister understand how to make mashed potatoes (smdh). At the end of the meal I'm still expecting to clean up after everyone and pack leftovers.
Christmas was the same.
3 days before my mom's birthday I am told we're doing a family thing and my sister is bringing lobster tails. Does she know how to cook them (no) does anyone have plans for sides (no). Its put on me to figure it out.
My sister decided a few days ago she wanted to grill today at my house because it would be nice out. I asked her what she wanted to grill and her response is "whatever you want". Kept asking. Same response. So I figure it out. Dad btches about having to grill. I'm trying to finish up the tiedye tshirts for my sons school tomorrow. Sis is btching about cheese for burgers. I'm strung out trying to help everyone at the same time. Finally food is done and served. We eat. My son needs a bath so I go off to get it set up for him. Sis now needs directions on what leftovers she can take. I honestly dont care, take them all I tell her. She takes what she wants and leaves the rest out, does no dishes and leaves.
I'm frustrated. Probably should have added sooner that mom has stage 4 cancer and dad is disabled. He can get around on a scooter but he cant do things like close a ziplock bag because his hands just cant do it. I am taking care of 98% of the household, am my mothers primary caregiver (meaning im in charge of her med admistration at home). And like, I also have my son I care for. Who I would move the world for.
Easter is the next holiday and it always falls on or just around my birthday. AITA if I tap out and tell my sister and aunt to figure it out?

It's well known that seasoning alone is not enough to get a non-stick surface on carbon steel or cast iron. "Just cook with it" is the common refrain when newcomers complain that food is sticking to their newly seasoned pan. Some shortcuts exist such as the potato skin method, but I believe I've found a trick that is even simpler and more effective.
My testing is admittedly not very scientific, but the result I've seen is that seasoning with used oil seems to be far more effective than fresh oil. I'm not sure the reason for this, but my theory is that the tiny carbonized food particles in the oil help smooth out the grain of the metal and also strengthen the seasoning like aggregate in concrete. Additionally, heating up oil causes it to polymerize and thicken, which may help it coat the metal.
Here's the full process:

Im not afraid to ask but I couldn't post it on Ask reddit because I'm not allowed to post titles with the "I" or "me" or whatever.
I can dip Tostitos in salsa, I like spaghetti and marinara sauce. Don't like ketchup, mustard, or any of those popular condiments. I used to like mayo (on burgers) and ranch (on salads/carrots) don't know what happened. I don't even like BBQ on ribs I wash the BBQ off each time.
I have no problem eating anything (but of course it has to be plain). I eat everything my mom cooks but when we go out to restaurants, I always choose the same thing because when I don't, it tastes terrible. I love regular Fish but I tasted some fish and chips from the cheese factory and the fish was terrible, only ate a few bites ( the fries was good tho). I'm very simple, I don't like those fancy stuff it just overpowers everything and I dislike it.

Ok this is a little bit out there but I hunt in an area right now that’s private but animals are so skittish public land is probably easier. It’s also rumored to be haunted as hell. (Yeah it probably is but I don’t do those stories during any hunting season) As I result I have tried a lot of weird stuff to break the damn curse of this place. Bringing in turkey ringers and champions went 0-3.
So when you walk in on any trail of logging road here every creature knows. I literally have hundreds of trial pics of deer on field 15 minutes before you arrive and 15 minutes after you leave. It’s much much worse than just the “us as the predator deal. “ When you walk though the ant woods this is true and I would say it takes 20-30 minutes for the woods to “resettle” as we call it, but generally it’s not completely silent just around you and bugs birds often don’t care depending on time of year. This place will calm in 30 minutes but the turkeys and deer just avoid that area. No way to completely sneak in tried everything.
So after some success doing an Native American ritual, I have began experimenting with meditation or something akin to it to relax on the stand and kinda enter a meditative trace with the idea “I am part of the woods, I am not a foreign predator. “ I keep focusing that I am a creature of love, I love the woods etc. I don’t care if I get anything I just love being in the beautiful woods that God made for me. Which is completely true.
I do everything to not think about the kill. I am trying to blend my energy into the forest. It’s not easy for me. I can only do it about 20%-30% of the time. I am better at it in am. But when I get to this state the woods explode in activity and my senses seem to really really turn in to everything. I only have one working eye so my ears really need to be tuned in.
This is completely anecdotal but on the occasions I am to get to this trance like meditative state, the woods go completely nuts. I have had so many small animals run over my legs when I am on the ground etc it’s crazy. Squirrels within inches, running across my legs, had several climb down tree I am leaning on and one actually sit on my shoulder once, birds land on me, lizards craw all over, and yes once a snake. I have sat in middle of deer herds, turkey flocks all over, you name it. The animals or woods are completely oblivious or accepting of me. Animals so close sometimes it scary. I have had two toms almost run over me. It’s like they are actually attracted to me.
I am not sure why this works, I use ozone heavy camo, tree oils, face camo all the tricks too so it’s just not just the mental aspect but I am convinced that when I am in predatory mode I am much easy to see and sense. I think the Native Americans had a belief like this too asking the forrest for help or something. They knew how to blend in the woods way way better than we ever could.
So next time you get in early in dark or at a spot you intend to stay for a while, try this technique. Don’t worry about hunting, get in good comfortable position, gun on your lap etc and thank God for allowing you this beautiful day outside and then work on becoming part of the woods, you can even close your eyes but don’t fall sleep, just think about how beautiful the woods are, those beautiful old trees, that bubbling Brooke or creek, Gods love or sun’s warmth, cool breeze etc , over and over until your head is clear, my mantra is “I am the woods. I am Part of the woods. We are brothers etc “ You can use a mediation app or something in one ear if you want. When you get to this state where you are accepted by the wood spirits or get on same wavelength or vibration you will know, the woods will burst into life like you have never experienced. You may get a turkey you may not even care too, but you will see animals everywhere and don’t freak out when a bird or squirrel land on your head or shoulder. (I think at least it works for me and I am Actually I am a water child or “salty” as they say, I can smell those fish and visualize those school movement’s easy, wood creatures not so much.
Just something to think about and try when down in dumps on a bad hunting or getting your ass kicked by turkeys.
Missing the sunrise in the woods so so bad right now. Give me hell boys

Anglican here (28M) who is praying about and discerning conversion. I’m going through a painful breakup, and I don’t know if I will ever get another chance at finding someone if I convert. I’ve been attending the occasional mass, going to adoration, and visiting at the KC fish fries. At all of those, I haven’t seen any single young women. The young adults I do see are all married with several young children.
At first glance, it seems that all of the attractive, Godly young ladies around my age are all taken. I’m afraid to try to find someone at the local Catholic campus ministry because I am several years past graduation and I’m afraid of getting MeToo’d. At my age, I fear that I will never have a chance at finding someone if I convert.
As I researched the problem, I felt a pit in my stomach. The more I read, the more I realized that the Church has utterly failed to help young singles in this matter. The Church has ministries and outreach efforts for literally every single demographic except mine. Are we invisible to them? Do the clergy not realize there is a problem? Have they had cranial-rectal inversion syndrome for so long that they can’t even notice us? If Protestant churches can run good singles ministries, then there is no reason the Catholic Church can’t do it too.
Where is God in all of this? Why has He allowed things to get this bad?

If mana was money, I’d feel an awful lot like Scrooge McDuck right about now. With Jackie off exterminating mice like it's going out of style, I find myself practically swimming in the stuff. I even grew in size! No longer just a green shard, I’ve matured into a small ovoid gemstone, like what you might find in somebody’s jewelry. I’m still the same green color as before, but now I’ve also got a streak of gold light bisecting me lengthwise. I look rather similar to a cat’s eye emerald now that I think about it, if said gemstone could glow from an internal light source that is.
Regardless, now that my life is out of immediate danger I've got to find something else to work on. Looking around my domain results in 3 different options to sink my mana into currently.
First off, my new scions. When I spend a smidge of mana focusing on Jackie, I'm given a more detailed pop-up than before that looks like this:

Hmmm? Wait, lvl 3 already? What a busy bunny you are Jackie! Kinda excited about the mention of magic too, but we'll get to that later. More important, is the fact that under all that info I've also got the option to 'upgrade' her with the mana she's accumulated for me. Having stronger scions can really only lead to good things, so I happily oblige. Interestingly, even after upgrading her a few times, it doesn’t seem to affect her level at all. Instead, it's her base attributes that seem to have been raised, since she’s definitely moving faster and has a larger mp bar than before. I wonder if having an upgraded baseline like this will allow her to grow faster as she levels up. Well, only time and observation will tell on that front. Regardless it's clear to see that I’ll get a lot of value out of prioritizing my scions.
Speaking of priorities, I can’t help but feel a bit guilty as I turn my attention to my frog scion. Poor guy was spawned first but I haven’t even given him a name, so it’s high time I rectify that. Problem is, what to call him? He doesn’t have a clear role yet like Jackie either, which I’m certain now contributed greatly to why she took so much longer to spawn. Despite my negligence, I find him diligently commanding the other frogs and even some rabbits around like a seasoned professional. While I was busy fawning over Jackie, he’d completed my task of clearing the area of loose bugs and was now setting up patrols for my entire perimeter to sweep for other problems.
What a reliable guy! Someone this calm and capable definitely deserves an appropriately cool name. Unfortunately, as soon as I thought of capable frogs the only thing that would come to mind are the many depictions of frogs in tuxes. On top of that, picturing everyone in tuxes just made me think of the godfather movies, so now my brain is stuck on the idea of a frog mafia and it won’t let go.
“Eh, whatever. They say it's better not to overly agonize over names anyways, might as well go with my gut. From here on out Imma name you Giorno! I’ve no idea what future adventures will be in store for us, but I’ll be sure to count on you when they come, no matter how bizarre they may be.”
I give him the same number of upgrades as Jackie and then leave him to do his thing. Next stop, the spawners! Unlike when I upgrade my scions, these actually increase in lvl, presumably to spit out relatively stronger minions, eh-hem, I mean denizens. Interestingly, each level seems to swap between increasing the quality of the spawns, and increasing the quantity of them. I'll leave them both at lvl 4 for now, don't want swarms of critters with nowhere to go and nothing to do after all.
And now for the main event. The final option I found to upgrade was none other than yours truly. It's a very expensive option compared to upgrading my scions and their spawners, but it'll let me expand my borders quite a bit. If I'm a mana-making factory then the factory must grow I say! Now the only question is, which way to go? I've got the option to expand up, out, or down, and each one holds their unique pros and cons.
I'll go ahead and cross out down for now. Something tells me that I'll be sure to run into problems with enemies potentially digging around everywhere, and I'm in no mood to make my new Sanctum utterly useless. Going up would certainly be a promising option, especially since that gives the most space per mana spent, but I'd rather wait on getting into the tree's heights until I at least encompass its base I think.
So that just leaves me with outwards. Considering it looks like it'll take a couple expansions to get around the tree anyways, I think I'll focus instead on finding out what kinda body of water it is that I'm sitting on. The other benefit of expanding into the water first is that I don’t actually know what may come with the new territory, but by keeping any surprises limited to the water, I’ll remain safe and secure in my sanctum regardless. Pretty smart right?
With a fwhoosh my borders balloon outwards, and I now find myself the proud owner of some percentage of a lake. It’s unclear just how much I have since despite the size of my expansion I didn’t encounter any new shores, just more lake. The portion I have at least stretches on for more than a mile, and goes almost as deep with little sign of stopping. In fact, the only reason I can confidently call this a lake and not a sea is the lack of salt in the water.
What is in the water though, is fish, and lots of them. I was never one for fishing in my past life though, so I’ve got no idea of their species nor how to really define them besides green and scaly. My UI isn’t much help in identifying my new denizens either, as all it says of them is [Fish, lvl 1]. Well, I guess it doesn’t matter too much, it’s not like their species name would help me decide what to do with all of them anyway. It’s surprisingly peaceful in the lake, with no signs of predators or invaders anywhere. It’s enough to make me paranoid honestly, compared to the chaotic battle on land this lake is far too quiet.
I end up waiting for about an hour before finally letting myself relax in the calm atmosphere. I guess it’s safe for now at least, so might as well think about what I want to do about my new fish spawner. Ideally, I’d like to give each of my scions are more clearly defined role when they start out, so the question is what do I want from my little fishies? Ruminating on roles has me thinking back to my days spent enthusiastically on teambuilder style gacha games, much to my best friend Judithe’s chagrin. I would adamantly defend my spending by extolling the fun inherent to collecting new units, upgrading them into powerhouses, and designing a team that synergizes well with each other. Now that I think about it, my current circumstances aren’t all that dissimilar to those games. It seems like it could actually be a lot of fun, building my scions up into a powerful party ready to take on all challengers. And there is one thing in particular that every team needs to be able to thrive.
“No matter how strong a damage dealer, nor how durable the tank, they cannot carry a weak team by themselves. Only a powerful support is capable of turning a mediocre team into a competitive one.”
I chuckle to myself, imagining the look of exasperation Judithe would always have upon hearing me repeat that line with each new game. But they are words to live by, and I intend to stick by them still. With the very real possibility of magic here in my new world, I suspect all kinds of buffs, debuffs, and healing will be possible. So with that role in mind, I turn to the fish spawner and then decide to push the envelope even further.
From the testing I’ve done with the rabbit and frog spawners, it would seem that I can only ever have 1 scion per spawner, as I’ve been unable to designate any more since Jackie or Giorno. But that’s only tested for cases made after the original scion has been born. What would happen if I tried to influence the spawner with the mental image of the designated scion splitting and developing separately like twins in the womb? I’ve got plenty of mana saved up at this point, and with the coast all clear of danger, I decide that the only way to know is to find out.

I make a mental note that the UI has updated the prompt now that I’m aware of what the process entails and accept. Immediately I’m left reeling as first it takes the same amount of mana as Jackie had, then doubles it, and doubles it once more for good measure. The timer over the fish spawner now reads 4 hours, and I’m completely spent on mana reserves. Whether my plan worked or not, I think I can safely say that I won’t be doing that again; the mana consumption is just too great and too inefficient.
Naturally, it is at this moment that my presumptions of safety were laughingly disposed of. First, a handful, then a dozen, a now hundreds of forms flitted into my domain from beyond its borders. It was a large flock of herons, and each one bore the same title overhead, [Invader]. So much for the idea that expanding into the water would keep the potential enemies confined to it. Helplessly, I watched the horde settle in to begin the wholesale slaughter of their preferred prey, namely my poor fish and frogs.
Um, excuse me, police? I’d like to report a stalker named Murphy, and would very much like a restraining order, please. What’s with this absurd level of difficulty and atrocious timing?
Trying valiantly not to let panic set in, I get Jackie to rush over as fast as she can to protect Giorno from becoming dinner. Despite their size, herons should still have light and brittle bones due to being birds, so they won’t be in a rush to try and pick a fight with my most ferocious scion. Much to her frustration though, they don’t dare get in close enough range for her to pick a fight either, so Jackie is forced to stand helplessly and watch the massacre unfold.
I’ve got no mana, and no options left…No, I can’t think like that. There has to be a way out of this mess, some method or advantage to overturn the food chain. Looking at Giorno shaking with fury beside Jackie’s legs, it occurs to me that the answer is staring me in the face, but I’ll need mana to pull it off, and probably lots of it. Thankfully, standing at almost 4 feet tall these herons are sure to have plenty to offer, I just need 1 to pull off this desperate gambit, so it’s time to go all in. Since my frogs are getting eaten anyways, I get a handful of them to jump straight into the gullet of one of the herons, and then have them spread their limbs out and clog the blasted bird’s throat. It takes a few tries, but eventually, it collapses in a heap unable to breathe past my kamikaze amphibians.
The surge in mana lifts my spirits and I immediately dump it all into the frog spawner, searching for my salvation. After a few levels, I’m prompted to choose a specialization to permanently lock the spawner into, and with a shout of victory, I find just what I was hoping for. Poisonous frogs. The kind of brilliantly colored frog that spells doom for all that would wish to make it prey. I quickly queue up a line of them, and one by one they pop out into the fray, only to be immediately snatched up by an unsuspecting heron.
The cost of one frog, vs the giant quantity of mana I get from the resulting dead dodo-brain, is overwhelming in my favor, so the tides are quick to turn. The unending aggression apparently inherent to all invaders actually works in my favor, since the birds cannot seem to help themselves from attacking my bright defenders, thus falling to the same trick time and time again. As the last birds fall and the waters grow still once again, the sun seemingly slips past the horizon and darkness falls, marking the end of my first, and very eventful, day in this new world.

Hello again. For those who read my last post, this one should be better as I currently am not in a weird mood and have enough sleep. However, I did start this in the Wendy’s drive through and finish before the last fry, so that’s my excuse this time. Enjoy.
Confusion. Disgust. Anger. These are a few of the wide ranging symptoms of someone who encounters a sick fisherman. “You catch carp on purpose?” a friend asks. “Are there trout in here?” someone asks as you fish a lower, slower, and warmer section of the river. You’re in a state of rapid decline. You spend hours, days, entire summer seasons agonizing over those fish that mud around in some shallow water or a slow bend. Eschew the classy dries or realistic nymphs. Cover the eyes of women, children, purists, and anyone else too sensitive to bear witness to your abomination of a fly selection. That weird little corner of the bass box has grown to an entire fly box of its own, full of worms, crayfish, buggy nymphs, and maybe an experiment or two with mulberry or algae flies for those two huge grass carp you’ve seen floating around. The ingredient list of these flies has more in common with those long words on the shampoo bottle than any mortal creature. Oh yes, you have all the symptoms.
When you wake up on a free day, unable to decide what to fish for, you open the blinds and maybe the window itself too. If it’s a carp day, it will be glaringly sunny and hot. The warm, dry air glides into the room, and you excitedly throw on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Add a pair of sandals and sunglasses, and this will be all the attire you need for the day. The truck is already hot when you get in, but you don’t mind. The long western winter has paled your skin and chilled your soul. You still feel like you’re thawing out somehow, so you simply crack the windows on the way to the spot and enjoy the nice hot air.
Wherever you end up, you’ve been lead here like an ant infected with a parasitic fungus, putting itself in the best possible spot to ensure transmission to the next host. You wander along the banks, taking care to avoid the worst of any litter, and generally being stealthy. These fish have sharp eyes and a keen intellect. Or at least that’s what you tell yourself. How else would they have eluded you so easily last time? It doesn’t take long to spot one nosing around in a shallow, muddy spot right against the bank. A couple quick false casts, and the fly falls just behind the fish, glowing in the afternoon sun. Acting as if it was a mere nuisance, he insultingly meanders away at a snails pace. You twitch the fly, begging him to turn around. Then your leader drifts over him, and as he brushes it he scoots off into deeper water. You move on, but after not seeing any other fish around, you return to the spot you saw the first fish in hopes of more. This time there’s a several fish, all working that same shallow area, so you pick out the nearest one and take a shot. The fly falls just in front of the fish by a foot or two. A perfect shot, and he slowly swims up to it, and as you give it a few twitches, you feel resistance and strip set firmly. The fish immediately zooms out into deeper water, leaving a big wake and swirling mud behind. You haven’t felt anything with this much strength in freshwater. Trout now seem like a small, distant memory. The life cycle is almost complete.
Some time later, while at the fly shop, some guy spots you picking out some new, wacky creation out of the bins. It probably has rubber legs, big eyes, and is in some stupid color like pink or chartreuse. “What are those for?” he asks. The next victim has arrived. You give him good advice, including the spot where you caught that first fish. By now, you’ve found a nicer spot with less trash, nicer water, and maybe more cooperative fish. The sickness begins anew. He’ll figure it out.

The fishing minigame is the absolute worst and I hate it and I wish I was better at fishing but I do not know how to do it right. I’m about a level 10 fishing just from putting that’s all over my farm and letting them go crazy for like a season or two, but I’m really bad at fishing even after using the skill tree to make the mini game a little easier. Any tips? I literally cannot catch any fish except a freaking tadpole. What am I doing wrong???

Im sure this has been posted or asked in here before, but I am so frustrated. I am trying to get green algae for the fish pond, since starting to gather materials for said fish pond two seasons ago, I have gotten one green algae. Does ant one have any tips on when / where it is best to get it?

Welcome to Raszageth, the continent of the Kingdoms, Caves & Cliffs season 2 server! Settled on this continent are five different kingdoms, each with their own unique abilities, skills, cultures and races. Spread over the continent are also all kinds of dungeons where you battle custom bosses and receive custom in-game rewards such as unique enchantments, weapon and armour upgrades and much more.
The server is a roleplay-based SMP. Upon joining the server you will be informed on each kingdom’s lore and then you can choose to join a kingdom. In this kingdom, you will work together to create beautiful builds, become the richest land through trading or mining, or perhaps grow to be the most powerful! Everything is possible, people with great fantasy can create their own amazing lore, builders can thrive through building competitions, grinders can grind dungeons and become powerful, and occasionally, there is battle. Do note, this is not a factions or PvP server, this is an MMORPG server focussed on building a community.

A short description of every kingdom:
Aendor: Orcs & Tauren (full lore)
Aendor is home to the Orcs and the Tauren who were the first creatures on the continent. They are mighty beasts who are very strong and powerful, but they are rather peaceful creatures. They prefer not to use violence, but at times that it does require to be used, they are mighty powerful at it. After a civil war between Taurian races, the Tauren were forced to flee to another continent where they eventually met the race of Orcs with whom they live together now.
Cimarroncita: Dwarves (full lore)
Cimarroncita is the home of the Dwarves, a stout species widely known for their love of metals and gems. This fascination transfers over to their mining prowess and their proficiency at black smithery. Dwarves are light-hearted and despite their obsession with rare minerals, very generous. Dwarves prefer to avoid violence, but will not shy away from it if need be. The subterranean city of Belleza is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the capital of Cimarronita. Belleza’s beauty cannot be described in words, but can only be experienced through your eyes. Belleza was founded several hundred years before humans subjugated all of their continent and banished the Dwarves. If not for Belleza the Dwarven race would have died out when they were driven from their former homes as Dwarves are terrible sailors and get seasick easily.
Cintrax: Weresharks (full lore)
The Weresharks of Cintrax are a furious folk of fish people who were cursed after defeating the almighty colossal Kraken. Now they roam the Northern Sea and raid any party of boats that dares cross that sea. The Weresharks used to be wonderfully happy and powerful people that built be biggest fleet. Now, they are reduced to small numbers swimming in the ocean.
Noblagard: Humans (full lore)
The Kingdom of Noblagard is the newest kingdom on the continent of Raszageth. After a dragon was released on the human continent, the remaining inhabitants fled toward Turtle Bay where the humans boarded the boats and hurried to leave in order to survive. Two hundred years ago, back on the human continent, the race of men still shared their land with a diverse amount of humanoid races. But after defeating the Centaur King, the humans became greedy and fought a thirteen-year war against the many breeds of humanoids. Most of the races that lived on the continent became extinct and the humans banished the remaining humanoids to Raszageth. None of the men alive today were around during the thirteen year war, but this did not matter to the Elves, Dwarves, Orcs or Weresharks. They all shared a great disdain for the race of men. While the territory where the humans have settled was previously unclaimed, the kingdoms have actively kept the humans from expanding any land outward. The humans are now tasked with building up their kingdom on a new continent and none of the neighbours are happy about their arrival.
Thrawnia: Elves (full lore)
The kingdom of Thrawnia is made up of an immortal race of pointy-eared beings called Elves. They have extraordinary eyesight and are naturally skilled at archery. Elven folk have long memories and hold even longer grudges. They still remember injustices done by species that went extinct long ago, and their banishment by humans is even fresher in their minds. They also think themselves superior to other races and look down on them, especially Dwarven folk, due to their short stature. After much warfare on Raszageth, the Elven capital had been sacked and there are now two Elven cities split up from each other. They still commune each half a year, but there is growing support in the south to break away.
