I just moved to the city and a friend of a friend of mine heard I was looking for a place. He generously offered to let me his empty flat within my budget at £1300 +utilities, no council tax and so obviously I jumped at it. It’s a 1bedroom flat in north London and I believe the market rate for something like this would be closer to £1900-2000. He’s giving me a great deal, he’s a great landlord and we discussed we would revisit the rent increase in the future as I settle in.
I just got a slight pay raise and could now afford to pay a bit more.
Should I preemptively offer an extra £100 or leave it in his court to have this money talk which I know he detests. We aren’t good friends but on occasion have dinner together with a few others and don’t want to take advantage of him or have him resent me.
I do wonder if I offer him that extra bump, it might mean he is less likely to come back at me at £1700 in a few months time?
Would love to hear what you guys would do in my position!

Does anyone have experience with this? Tips from personal experience as to how I should rest or treat at home? I'm scheduled to see a doctor soon but am looking for more help in the mean time. I've never had issues with my joints before but recently I've agitated them from what I believe was poor hand/arm posture while using my desktop computer. Over the course of a few months at least. Of course I'm worried for the worst but trying to remain optimistic. All help is appreciated.

ok sooo i’m (21, they/them) moving out of my family house and trying to find a place to rent with my boyfriend (25, they/he). he’s coming over from a whole different country like overseas and everything!!! so, it’s a big deal and they’ve basically sacrificed everything for me like they’re job and family, etc.
the main point of this post is: i’m terrified. i’m shitting myself panicking now as he’s only coming in one week, and rather than being excited i find myself getting extremely depressed and sad. i absolutely HATE feeling like this, i feel so selfish and horrible. i am so ???? there’s no word for it??? it’s so much more than sad because we’re moving up somewhere that’s about 3/4 hours away.
i won’t be able to see my dog or my nan that much and those things are killing me. my nan is EVERYTHING to me and so is my dog. i really worry about my nan cos she lives alone and gets so lonely. and i’m the only one in my family who goes over and stays with her, and i will miss doing this soso much. she is getting older now so at the times i want to be there for her i’m not going to be. i love spending my days with her and i feel like it’s being ripped away from me.
i’m so scared of the changes that are inevitably going to happen. and i know this all seems so dramatic!!! but it literally is effecting my mental state like so much.
i will miss my dog sososo much. every time i think of not being able to cuddle up in bed with her and just be with her it makes me bawl my eyes out. i can’t take her with me though as it wouldn’t be fair on her, she needs to stay with my family at home. i have such a strong connection to her as she saved me from not being here anymore, so this just adds to me being so upset about leaving her.
i just really need some advice or anything!! i can’t tell my friends or family this as they will judge me so hard and not understand stuff from my pov.
also i DO NOT blame my boyfriend for any of my feelings as he has done absolutely nothing wrong!!!! i am just really overwhelmed with everything but i appreciate them so much for coming over to another country and doing everything they can so that we can finally not be long distance after two ish years!!!

Hi all - I may be the last to know this, but I wanted to share in case I'm not. In my state, I need to apply to extend the RO against my ex annually (yay). My year is about up, but I recently moved and have so far kept my address hidden. The court paperwork requires a mailing address (which will be seen by my ex). I'm enrolled in the ACP, but I only want to share that address if I have to. Soooooo... I found virtual mailboxes are for rent with locations anywhere in the US and abroad. This isn't a mail forwarding service, so they open your mail, scan it, and you read it online. That eliminates my fear of my ex calling the company and learning my address.

My father was extremely abusive towards my mum. He suffered from a extremely bad case of undiagnosed bipolar disorder, he refused to take medication or seek a diagnosis. He drank and he screamed. He punched walls, destroyed the home and the family he and mother created. He psychically hurt my mother and her family, family holidays were ruined due to his violent and abusive outbursts. When my parents divorced when I was 11 he would text my mother every night for years and tell her how he was going to kill himself because of her. He would post publicly online about how much he hated her, causing her to witch-hunted by those who admired him. He committed suicide when I was 14, a few days after my birthday. I felt nothing but resentment. Due to how he acted during his childhood, his emotional neglect and his inability to stay in our home for over a month at a time. I’ve been diagnosed with post traumatic disorder and am in the process of getting a borderline personality disorder diagnosis. I have pushed everyone I love away from me, the friends I used to have view me as a pathetic man. I attempted suicide and all I could see in my mothers eyes was the looks she would give my father, and I look in the mirror and cry for I look just like him. When I mention my suicidal ideation to my mother I can tell she’s trying not to cry as I serve as a reminder of him. I sound and act like him, I sit alone in my room and just stare into space. I’m just like him and I hate it, I want to be able to talk to those I love and act rationally. However, no matter how hard I try I run away I leave them all angry and upset at me. He was a horrid man, I know that. I hate that I’m like him. I just wish I wasn’t so alone I’m to much for those around me to deal with, now they’ve left me. I’m all alone.

Does anyone have any good hacks for heavy lifting integrated into their home workshop?

Okay so as we all know, making friends in our 30s, well it sucks and its hard. However, as an eternal optimist I continue to try. I don't care male, female, dragon, orc, elf, none of that matters to me. All I ask is that you be a good human, I mean come on now the bar is on the floor.

Hi everyone! My fiance and I are getting married in May of 2024. We're originally from Dallas, TX but currently live in CO. I've been planning our wedding and so far we have selected our venue, a beautiful outdoor nature center with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. They've been incredibly helpful and accommodating and it felt like our first big step towards our wedding day!
However! After that I've hit a complete dead end. I have no idea how to search for some vendors back in Dallas. Im still looking for photographers (likely can't afford a videographer on top), caterers, and decoration rentals. Unfortunately our venue does not provide decorations so everything is on us and I'm having the hardest time find something in Dallas. Would someone please recommend a reliable vendor where we could rent out all the table decorations, such as linen and center pieces? Preferably someone who can help set up too.
We have a caterer in mind who is a friend of the family but they unfortunately can't provide everything. We took this as an opportunity to offer something more comfortable and are considering hiring an elote cart who can also provide agua frescas and traditional paletas! Problem is.. how do I even start?! Googling only does so much and I just can't find a site or platform that provides this resource. Can someone help me with that? It's not like I can just walk up to my local elotero and ask...
Lastly, I understand photography can be one of the largest expenses and I completely understand paying for quality. The only issue is that it's a small wedding and our budget is too tight to afford anyone over $1000. While I'm sure I can find photographers in the area, I also don't want to offend anybody. How can I approach a photographer respectfully if I love their work but can't afford them? Are there alternatives? What can I expect with less than $1000?
I apologize if this all seems too common sense but I really need help. I've tried looking at websites like TheKnot, Zola and Wedding Wire but I'm just not finding what I need. It's hard enough planning a wedding a few states over when I barely have time to visit.. Any and all advice would be welcomed! Bit of background: My gf and I met over a dating app in Feb 2022. Since then, we've had a loving and supportive relationship, but as time has gone on, I've become more uncomfortable with how dependent she's become. In previous relationships she's had, they haven't lasted more than a few months and they've usually ended up with her being abused in one way or another (these stories have been corroborated by her friends). Knowing this, I made it my mission to build her up, as she had very low self confidence and kept putting herself down in the relationship and in other aspects of her life. When we first got together, I was in the middle of saving money to try and move into my own place (I was in the middle of a job change during the pandemic and had to move home since the place I was due to start cancelled my contract before furlough was announced). I found myself in debt and have slowly got to a position where I can move out of my parent's place. She was a live in Au Pair, just having moved out from her mother's house in France (she was born in the UK). As time has gone on, though, I've started to get worried. The first thing was her attitude to saving. She plays very fast and very loose with finances. She doesn't understand that I'm still trying to claw my way out of debt and have extra bills to pay. The first debate we had was about getting lifts from me. She doesn't drive, so she would expect me to take her places. When I started asking for petrol contributions, she protested. After her friends convinced her that it was actually a fair request, she agreed to it, but I noticed that if I forgot to ask for it immediately or say I was making a note of it, we'd have arguments about whether she actually owed it or not, as she thought she'd be getting it for free. She would also need to spend money that we needed to save for our flat by insisting we spend new years in the city that was near us, rather than going out locally for a fraction of the cost. Usually, I would have to front these events as well, and the new years in question ended up costing me a lot due to a dispute with booking accommodation. I noticed, she didn't get burned with her lack of organisation, I kept getting burned. Fast forward to early May 2023, we've now moved into our flat, and I've been treating this as the start of our lives together, only, I've started to notice things that are worrying me. For a long time now, she has been complaining about her job as a chef, saying she can't do it for the next 20-30 years of her life, which I agree with. I started suggesting education to her, which she initially was curious about, but since then she's gone off the idea. Every Uni course she looked at, she would find a single module she didn't like the look of and would write off the entire degree. She would also say that she doesn't want to commit to 3-4 years of studying as she might change her mind about what she wants to do part way through. I didn't say much to that, except that other people also go through that and that it's not a huge problem, grit your teeth and finish the degree then get a job doing something else. I originally trained as a teacher and switched to programming during the pandemic, so I understand the worry she has. I then suggested some form of in work training (like an apprenticeship), but she's not keen on that idea either, as she, again, waste a load of time on something she doesn't want to do in the future. It was at this point I started losing interest and just said that the type of career she says she wants requires training, so she either commits to the training and gets what she wants, or she keeps doing what she's doing now. She didn't seem to like that answer. Then the catalyst for all of this happened a few days ago. She was nervous and wanted to talk to me about what she wants to do in the future. I stopped what I was doing and gave her my full attention, being sure to try and keep my face as even as possible. She wants to go into business working with Cakes, Tattoos and crafts. Not one of them, all three at the same time. She's waiting for the earning from my job to increase so she can quit her job to focus on this. Due to the fact she kept talking about it, I must have had a good poker face, as I was very upset on the inside. She wants the ability to run all three businesses by herself and to switch between them when she wants so she doesn't get bored with one thing. I haven't spoken to her about it yet, since I think it's unrealistic and I get the feeling that this is just a way that she can become a stay at home partner who doesn't need to work. I always though to run a successful business that you need to throw yourself into it heart and soul, with most people starting it whilst they still have a full time job, not to mention that all 3 of the business fields she's chosen are extremely competitive. I know when I bring this up with her, that it's going to upset her and appear unsupportive, but I've felt put upon by her in one way or another for a while. AITA for not wanting to support a partner whose ideas, frankly, have very little chance of working?

Was riding down the bike path, it turns into a sidewalk. As I approached a drive way of a local bank, car was stopped so I thought I could go in front of him. He proceeded to pull up as I was trying to pass and we collided.
My front wheel ended up under his car and it’s a little bent. I was in shock and had/have horrible abdominal cramps from trying to catch myself as I fell off my bike.
I yelled at him for about 10 minutes while he just stared at me, I shook his hand and sent him on his way. The ambulance did show up due to some people calling and I told them I was fine.
Everyone told me I’m an idiot for not filing a police report, but I was in shock and didn’t know what to do. The accident seemed so minor and I needed to get home since I was on my lunch break at work.
I later called the PD to file a claim, they said it’s technically the banks property. But the officer actually works at a bike shop part time and checked out the bike, said it’s minor damage.
I guess I got lucky, assuming I have no internal bleeding(I’m pretty certain I don’t) but damn, it just proves we’re never really safe.
Too long didn’t read: I got hit by a car and I’m an idiot and too polite about these things.

Since high school, my driving history is all used cars (no more than $10-15k). I would install whatever head unit I'd want because cars still had DIN mounts, and I'd drill holes and mount antennas for radios (think of cop cars.)
I moved a while back to a city where no car is needed, but as I start planning to buy a house here, I definitely need to pick up a car again. Instead of grabbing another hoopty, this time I figured I'd go new.
My original plan was to get the latest Ford Explorer or Mach-E since they're meant for upfits. I'm not comfortable dropping 40-50k cash to buy the car outright, since I figure I could get dangerously low on liquid cash while fixing up the new house at the same time, so I thought I would go on a loan instead.
But while renting some cars just to get a feel for them, I realized that all these cars don't really have swappable head units anymore. They're all integrated with the dash. Then I realized - the technology powering all this, to make CarPlay and Android Auto work - they're on a limited lifespan, and it's very likely that 5+ years down the line a car may not support connecting to the latest phone anymore. In other words, you may own the car, but you don't own the software and systems on them, and you can't upgrade them on your own. You and your vehicle's "tech lifespan" is beholden to the manufacturer.
So now I'm questioning if buy/loan is the way to go anymore. In my mind, if consumers don't really "own" cars outright anymore, then leasing might make more sense.
I would love thoughts from the professionals on this topic, as well as thoughts on upfits to leased vehicles.
When upfitting a vehicle, you:

1. remove the OEM console and add in an aftermarket one which holds radios,
2. drill various small holes inside the vehicle to mount other devices that don't go in the console,
3. and drill holes to install antenna mounts and run cables from those mounts to where the radios are.

1 is reversible. 2 is not reversible, but small holes in the top trim of the rear window are usually easy to miss. 3 is the big question in my mind. The antenna mounts can stay with the vehicle, but you can see them. If you remove them, then you have multiple 3/4" gaping holes.

Hello everyone, if there’s a thread someone can link me to for basic home recycling information. I just moved into my first place and I’ve got so much garbage, I just found out you can’t recycle plastic wrapping and labels in my blue bin?? Is this normal?
What I’m wondering is how many seperate bins should I need if I’d like to separate all the little things I use daily, Wrappers, labels, foam, McDonald’s wrappers coffee cup lids etc. This seems like an insane amount of waste for things that are all recyclable in different forms.

I never know how to start these things, so I reckon I'll just get right into it! I imagine this might be a smidge of a lengthy post, but hey, I want you to have a good idea of who you're reachin out to!
I'm Nate! As I mentioned in the title, I'm 29, 6'1, vvvv bearded, really quite tattooed, and just a wee bit pierced. An "alt-nerd" if you will. Here's some [photos](https://imgur.com/a/iSMpb1u) to help with the visual :)
Overall I'm just a occasionally shy & quiet nerd. I like hanging out, playing games, and watching movies/ TV shows. I've never been much of a guy for goin' out on the town, very much prefer being a home body. That being said, I do love driving, and love taking roundtrips (when work allows). Lately I've been binging the walking dead, and beating up demons in diablo 4 which has been a super fun vibe.
Hobby-wise, I really enjoy art. I cant draw, unfortunately a stick figure is out of my ability even, but I can 3D model! It took a lot-lot of practice, but I've become quite decent at it, and hopefully will just become better as I go. I really want to start practicing to become a character artist, one of these days. I also build Warhammer mini's and will occasionally get to play tabletop Warhammer with my brother, though it's a bit of a trip so I dont get to do it super often these days.
Work-wise, I work from home! Infact, if you recall my mention of 3D, I'm actually a 3D artist at a game studio! Honestly, It was a dream job for me, and while I don't love the company I'm with, I'm beyond proud to have made it into the industry and I don't think I could be happier anywhere else.
There's always the "What kind of music do ya listen to 👀" question, and lemmie fill ya in! So I dont typically listen to music while home, truth be told. Mostly because of all the TV/Movie watchin. I typically leave that for driving. However, taste-wise I'm kind of all over the place. I enjoy some viking-metal, Alternative, punk, bit of pop. Indie is probably my favorite genre these days, though. I've been listening to a lot of "rare Americans" in particular. I'm also a big fan of podcasts (mostly, The last podcast on the left!).
Personal life wise, I suppose I'm a bit lonely. I have friends that I might see every once in awhile, though we tend to stick to discord/gaming. I have my own house, though I live a decent bit from a ton of civilization. My bestie is probably my cat these days, honestly. He's a pretty solid bean.
I do spend a decent amount of time on social media (mostly twitter, these days), and I have some friends in that area if you want to call them that. I really mostly use it for shit posting/ and for art/job specific stuff. As much as I dislike twitter, It's honestly a great resource in the games industry so it's a bit of a necessary evil.
I suppose this is around when I bring it to a close. If you're still reading, then omg thank you! I reckon you're wondering "Whats this bearded dude lookin for", and well I suppose I'm lookin for what we're all lookin for. A bit of companionship, a best friend? Maybe someone to spend the rest of our years with. Those are kind of big hope though, arnt they. Currently, I just want to meet someone that we can grow organically with. I'm very much a "start as friends" kind of guy. So lets watch some stuff together, maybe play some games, and get to know each other :)

Stick with me here, I know this is a tough crowd. I see on the sub all of the time people complaining about things not working and I wonder how much of comes down to setup. I have quite a few devices in my home and I never experience the problems people have here. I have even tried exact phrases people use like "hey google set a 15 minute timer" and it just works. FYI I would normally say "Hey Google set a timer for 15 minutes." I can't seem to recreate the issues I read about on this sub. So I thought I would share my setup and maybe some people here can benefit from it.
works with google devices-When I set up a device I never give it the same name as a room. ex: 2 smart lights in the master bedroom. Left Light, Right Light, assigned to master bedroom. If I say "HG turn off the left light"-no confusion. "HG Turn off the lights" the mini(stereo pair) assigned to the master bedroom turns them off. "HG turn off the master bedroom lights" they go off doesn't matter which device responds.
Lights in the living room do not have living room in the device name. Sofa light, side table light, console table light, dining room light, kitchen light, assigned to living room (open floor plan). They all work without issue. The exception here is Livingroom TV-(Google TV Chrome Cast) no issues here. doesn't matter which device hears me, if I say "HG turn off the living room tv" it works.
Kids rooms are named after the kids. Johnny's room, Johnny's light, Johnny's display. I know this goes against what I am saying here but they work. This is an exception I guess
My basement has many devices, switches original Home speaker and a mini(gen 1).. desk light, wall lights, lantern, bedroom lights, assigned to basement. Exception Basement TV (Sony with android tv) no issues with it. Turn it up down on off. I find "HG rewind the livingroom tv 2 minutes" or pause to be one of the most helpful things I have ever had. Being able to say hey rewind 5 minutes or a specific amount is awesome IMO. (I realize "rewind" is odd for some, but again it works) Usually I leave out the name of the device and the speaker assigned to the room knows what to control.
I am thinking the more unique you make a device name the better it may work. I don't really try to cast specific shows to devices. I find it cumbersome and start it with my phone. I have done the voice training. I still use a chromecast audio that works fine with no issues. I can ask for specific music. "HG I want to listen to whatever on the Basement speaker" and it goes there. However it doesn't work on my Sony receiver with Chromecast built in. I do not use my Pixel's Hey Google Feature. It is no good when you have multiple devices in your house. So my phone assistant has to be launched. Which I don't mind because I loved active edge.
It seems to me that the google devices work best when trying to control them from another google speakehub. As I mentioned above if I ask to listen to something on the garage speaker it goes there. Meaning: if I ask any device to do something on another google device I don't really have issues.
Generally, if I leave my basement and say "HG turn off the basement" every single thing goes off every time. My 8 year old son says "HG turn on the basement" everything turns on, even the TV" He wants the lights on when he goes down there.
I realized at the end here that I do share room names with the google devices. Basement mini, basement speaker(google home), garage speaker, kitchen display and I do not have issues. But lighting devices all have unique names. Some of you may be trying harder tasks with you smart stuff. I keep my expectations low and do simple instructions. nothing out of the ordinary. Hope this may help someone out.... For you pro users go easy on me.

How is accounting and finance in Atlanta? Are there a lot of variety of jobs and are they flexible (hybrid)? Can anyone who works and lives in Atlanta offer me some insight? I have a friend who lives there, unrelated to accounting, who I could crash with and get help if needed. That is why I would rather be in Atlanta vs Houston or something like that. I have no connections to accounting in the Atlanta area.
I am about 8 hours drive from Atlanta and there isn't much around where I am it in regards to accounting and like no finance. There are not really any major businesses and only small kinds of businesses. I got off about a month ago and got a new role recently and it is painfully boring small PA firm. I don't want to do this job or PA for the rest of my life.
I graduated at the end of 2019 into covid and couldn't get anything till January of this year. I was not wanting to move because of the economy and Covid. I also passed the CPA exam in the mean time for whatever the exam is worth. I am about to be 28 and feel it is coming time to move onto something a little bigger. There is this one guy in the office who is older than me and I don't want to end up like him. I feel behind at 28 years old.
I was thinking of staying for another 12 months or so to get a year on my resume and to get the license (I would be getting the license around March of next year probably. I am living at home with my parents and was thinking I could just save like a Mfer in the mean time.
If I had a year and a half of experience would I be able to get an accounting or finance job in the Atlanta area?

Murray is due $18.2 million this season but may not be open to an extension limited to a $25.4 million starting salary. Unless Atlanta can shed significant salary elsewhere, they may not be able to afford Murray at his current price, let alone on a new deal in his likely asking range above $30 million.
That's where Porter, with his long-term stretch, could help the Hawks under the luxury tax entirely. It would probably take the No. 4 pick, along with other considerations.
The Rockets get Towns to pair with Harden, a very different look than Green in the Warriors scenario. If Udoka expects a defensive roster, the front office would add two high-powered scorers who aren't nearly as impactful on the other end.
Once again, Houston gives up one of its top three prospects, No. 4 and other considerations. Would the Timberwolves say no to Murray and Smith for Towns? Do the Hawks turn down No. 4 and other playedraft pieces from Houston for Murray?
And there's enough flexibility to configure it in different ways, with Murray to the Wolves, Smith to the Hawks, throw in No. 20 or a Brooklyn future first—Collins could be added to the equation from Atlanta. There would be fertile ground for conversation if the three franchises were so motivated.
Or maybe Minnesota and Houston just leave the Hawks out, and Minnesota goes for younger pieces in volume from Houston and figures out a point guard later.
The Rockets have the cap room, young players, draft picks and Porter's magic bullet contract. The starting point is a "yes" from Harden, but Houston may not get that without lining up the trade possibilities first.
