I never really made a post like this before so I don't even know what to write.
I guess I'll start with I fucked up. I been fucking up. And I will always continue to fuck up.
I (M27) really love my gf (F24). But it took me too long to realize that.
We are in a long distance relationship for the last 2 or so years, although we met much earlier.
I always really liked her, but it wasn't until she almost left me did I fucken realize.
We met online and met for the first time last year. It was an amazing time. We both traveled out of the country alone for the first time and met in the middle. (of the world) (kinda)
But soon after I started screwing around like always. And I met this girl of some app. I only ever spoke to this new girl a few times and we tried to have sex once, but didn't actually.
Soon after I stopped this shit and cleaned up my phone and act. I was gonna do better.
But then on our last trip, which was earlier this year, she found some texts and chat and found the truth about what I did.
She forgave me then, at least she tried her best. Soon after the trip was over she became a little different. More distant.
Soon we were okay again but now I was out of a job and smoking weed or nicotine here and there.
Mind you the reason I lost the job was cause I choose to go with her on the trip over back home and doing my WFH job.
I had already cancelled plans before and didn't want to hurt her in any way.
So once I'm back she wants me to get my act straight. She gave me 1 month to fix everything up.
Get a job, loose the weed and nic.
And I did that. I found a cash job while I finish my study and I gave up all the shit I did.
Idk what happened to me after that day she almost left.
Now I can't sleep unless I talk to her, I spend hours waiting for her. She's all I think about and all I love.
But a while ago I was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, depression and the works. So I started my meds but they made me so very emotional.
So much that I basically had a panic attack and was taken to the ER. (I am in UK so it's free)
After I got out I made vids and send them to her, until she came back home. And she called and we talked and I was over the moon.
I expressed everything to her properly. For the first time I could cry and be me.
But the nect day she calls me out on being fake and a liar. And I do not blame her one bit.
I lied to her a lot. And I do dumb shit a lot. I know. I regret it. I am already working on it.
The next day we fought and she went out and I got another panic attack. This time I took vids and pics to show her.
Again things were fine. Until a few days ago when I said I'd do something cute and special for her, but due to time difference and me working plus study and meds. I just came home and fell asleep.
I talked to her a few days ago and she said she doesn't love me anymore. She doesn't get excited anymore.
Never have I ever been hurt by those words. But they carve right through you.
She's been a lot more mean to me last few weeks. But as I understand. And as she admitted. She can't seem to leave. She loves me a lot, or at least used to.
So she wnats me to leave and yesterday I did that. I said bye and hanged up.
Idk what I will do next. The thing is I never imagined life without her. Or ever thought she'd ever not be here..
I understand this all could have been so very differently had I not always screwed shit up.
And when I started to do right. I think I over did it. From sending her letters daily, long sweet vn, vids for every hour of the day.
Just last week I told her I wanted to do something for her and she was all happy woth me. But then she came back later and was all mad and that you're useless etc.
I bought a quill and ink to write her a hand written note. For when I meet her.
She just made fun of it and me. And it's not the first time.
I know she doesn't mean it, this girl loved me more than I deserved.
She left her fam to live alone and work in another country, just so we'd have enough money and chnace to meet each other until she is able to get her study visa and be here with me.
She used to listen to me so carefully while I used my phone during calls. Now it's the other way around.
She'd stay up late for me and talk to me no matter the mood. While I ignored and was taking her for granted. Now she's doing the same to me.
It's so funny and sad. I don't hate her for it.
But I think it's time. I want to be free and I want her to live as well.
I know you probably won't ever see this and I don't ever want you to. I just wish I'd changed earlier.
I'm sorry for everything and the mistakes. I'm sorry for the lying and cheating. I'm sorry that I took you for granted.
I'm probably going to simply distance her away as far as I can and make sure she can't ever contact me or my family.

I'm 21 (almost 22), a virgin (go figure) and in the military. While serving has been the best thing going for me physically, mentally is a different animal. My mind is just one big clusterfuck of lustful fantasies involving being with women I barely know which has escalated to the point where these fantasies involve sex, marriage and children. I have 1 interaction with a woman who happens to be given me unwarranted attention in the moment and I'm head over heels for her. I'm too big of a pussy to actually go out of my way to talk to her. So I resort more to my 'comfort zone' and just fantasize. It's like an unhealthy escape for me. I fear rejection and I obviously can't taste rejection in my mind because nobody can tap into my brain more than I can. When it comes to rejection, I stress many things like my appearance, mannerisms, having a lot in common her, and ultimately, acceptance. On the latter, I feel like the women I work with or fantasize about are seeking materialistic things. You have to be in-shape with a good sense of humor and good taste in music, video games, movies, etc. Women gravitate to those men, not those who are visibly struggling and just want an equal opportunity at love. If I wasn't serving the military, which is the best thing that has happened to me in life so far; If I was still living at that broken home and going to college for some dead-end degree, with absolutely nothing going for me, I would've probably killed myself.
I have a new lease on life from where I'm at, but it unfortunately comes with this never-ending longing for a woman with whom I can celebrate her differences as she can mine. At this point, I feel like with a woman, I can finally find peace and be an overall happier person.
Is my thinking flawed? How can I stop fantasizing and how can I at least offset my lustful desires? How can you guys be virgins and stay sane (lol)? I appreciate your time nonetheless.

Flash forward to May 2021, and we were on vacation with my sister and her fiancé, starting to plan our destination wedding. The whole time we were out planning, he would be snap chatting her, and at one point he snapped a picture of my sister (we look nothing alike), and she asked him if it was his fiancé or her sister, which I thought was kinda weird for someone who said they were gonna creep someone’s social media, or just for the fact that I knew he showed her a picture of me before (our engagement photos) But it wasn’t weird enough I really thought anything of it.
In August 2021, I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant, so we decided to have our wedding a whole year early. In September 2021, I was hospitalized for 4 days, with an infection that if the antibiotics didn’t work and I ended up needing surgery, I would lose the pregnancy. 4 days I sat in the hospital by myself, even though he was off of work. My husband (then fiancé) only came to visit one of the days I was there, for a couple of hours, and the whole time he snap chatted Molly, and was asking me about my eyebrows, again. Didn’t even try to comfort me about the fact I had to turn my phone off because my family was bombarding me with messages of my dad’s infidelity.
We got married in October 2021, and it was a beautiful, last minute ceremony (I planned it all by myself without any input from him), that he really wanted to do before the baby came. Toward the end of October, we went to see a professional hockey game since my boss offered us tickets right on the ice by the team. As we were there, he was telling me one of his friends was also there, and he showed me a Snapchat his friend sent him. Once that Snapchat finished, it went back to his inbox of messages and I seen his coworker wrote him. He didn’t open it while I was looking, and I as turned my attention back to the game, out of the corner of my eye I seen him turn his phone away from my view and start typing. I didn’t say anything until a couple days later and I asked if this was something I should worry about and he assured me it was nothing, and that she was even trying to convince her boyfriend to have a baby so I literally had nothing to worry about. I expressed it was weird that she was had to “convince” her long time boyfriend to have a baby, especially at the time I was pregnant. But, I let it go thinking it was just my hormones.
After this, I noticed he would be texting her or snapping her, even more outside of work. He gets out at 4:30, and would sometimes be texting her until 8:30-9:30pm. Eventually in late November, we traveled to see his favorite football team,. I got him super good seats, that were expensive, for his birthday, booked a hotel, and we made a weekend of it. This time when I seen his Snapchat, I noticed they were best friends on there. And that was just a huge red flag for me.
The following night, after we got home, I asked him about her being his best friend on Snapchat and expressed how uncomfortable it made me, and expressed that I’ve had this feeling in the past and brushed it off and I was actually right about the situation. He told me I couldn’t take my past out on him. That he would never cheat on me. I asked him to delete her off Snapchat and only converse with her where the messages could be recorded (text message and g-chat at work). He said he would just delete his whole Snapchat account. Now, my husband is super outgoing and really likes his social media so this felt weird to me, and I told him it was strange he’d to go to such an extent for a coworker. I also told him I didn’t want him bringing her up to me at any time (he talked about her a lot). He also posted a picture of me to social media that weekend with a cowboy filter, mentioning “sometimes I’m his wife, sometimes a cowboy, but I’ll always be his baby mama”. Molly commented on the post and emphasized “always be your baby mama” with laughing emojis, which my husband reacted with a laughing emoji too. Even though I expressed in the past how I felt about being called his baby mama (I don’t like it), and one of the reasons he pushed to get married before the baby was born was because he promised his grandma he wouldn’t have a kid before marriage. That he never meant to make me feel like he was prioritizing her, and didn’t stop to think how he’d feel if the roles were reversed.

She got a picture while I was still cut open on the table and I didn’t even get to see my until 5 minutes after he sent Molly the picture. When I asked why he sent her a picture 10 minutes after she was born, he said “because she asked for one”. My baby was also born late at night. This was the hardest part to swallow. He only knew this girl for a year and half, and she was so important that she got pictures immediately? After the most important people of in his life? He didn’t even send pictures to his best friend that he’s been friends with for over 20 years, until late the next morning.
While I was on maternity leave, his manager asked him to work a half hour later to close on the days his “bff” (what his manager called Molly) had to close. I told him this made me uncomfortable, them being alone for a half hour, and that his manager knew he wouldn’t say no to closing just because it was with her. This entire 1st year of postpartum, I definitely feel like we’ve grown apart in our relationship. Of course we’re navigating being new to parenthood, but it just seems like he’s always angry with me. Making snide remarks. Giving me dirty looks. And still just coming home talking about Molly.
I finally got to meet Molly at his work holiday party, and it was completely awkward. Not only did she barely say hi to me, she almost didn’t even shake my hand i had extended out to her, but her boyfriend treated my husband coldly (he normally makes friend with everyone, anywhere he goes). We put our jackets to sit by them, and went around to mingle some more, and she let someone move them so we couldn’t sit by them, and then they ended up leaving extra early. The vibes were just totally off.
The most recent incidence was he was talking to our daughter, and I was listening and made a comment about something he said and he told my daughter that I’m always eavesdropping and reading. I asked what he meant, and he said “you know, since you read through my messages”, and I told him to ask me the last time I went through his messages, so he did, and I told him that I haven’t since a couple weeks after my baby was born. He said this was shocking and he didn’t know if it was a good thing or not that I trust him.
This also isn’t the first issue we’ve had over a coworker. At his previous job, I seen him messaging a coworker talking stuff about me and how he didn’t think I would be helpful after construction was done in our house. When I confronted him, he cried and begged me not to leave him. He even stopped talking to her. Which makes his reaction with this situation regarding Molly more suspicious to me.
I can’t tell if I’m going crazy, or if my husband has feelings for Molly. He’s also had conversations with her mom (says she calls the office). Writes on her Facebook wall about random things teasing her (which is his love language). I feel like he treats her the way he treats me and he shouldn’t be treating anyone else like he treats me. He even talks to her more than me. And most times we talk, it’s about the care for our daughter. Even when we’re intimate, he seems different than he did before meeting her. Hi all! Looking for some advice to help myself and our dogs. I will preface with a bit of background. When I was about 8 I was attached by a large dog and bitten several times. After that, I was terrified of dogs - would cross the road to avoid any interaction at all, and sometimes would avoid going for a walk on my owns street for fear of free roaming dogs. This all came to an abrupt halt when I met my partner (we've now been together 10 years) who had two dogs - a Newfoundland/Labrador Cross and a LabradoSpringer Spaniel cross, both four years old. I figured that if I wanted to be with my partner I had to be okay with dogs, and he was an angel in introducing me and them at just the right pace. Now, our remaining dog (LabxSpaniel) is my absolute best friend and I wouldn't trade him for the world.
We had been considering another dog for quite some time, and last week our local SPCA called with what seems like a perfect match. About 1 year old, Labrador mix, with a leg injury which prevents him from going on long walks or engaging in much rambunctious play, which for our senior dog is pretty perfect. He has mostly recovered from the injury - requires simple physio exercises every day which he is very good about doing.
We did a dog meet and the SPCA said it was a gold star meet - nobody was too interested in the other, no animosity, just a pretty chill meet. So we decided to go through with the adoption! We brought new doggo home yesterday and did a meet and walk on neutral ground, allowed the new dog to check out our house on leash while senior dog went for a solo walk with me, then introduced them inside the home with new dog on a leash all evening.
Senior dog is now showing some fear and annoyance. While new dog isn't meant to play much, he is still far more playful than our senior dog and was trying to engage yesterday a bit. Senior dog gave a bark and nip to get him to back off, and he did for a moment but then went right back. We separated them, keeping new dog on a leash with us downstairs and senior dog free to go where he chose - he chose to stay upstairs away from us, which is incredibly unusual for him. For sleeping, we put new dog in a crate (with very minimal complaints) in our bedroom, and senior dog for the first time since I've known him chose to sleep on his bed in the living room.
Clearly senior dog is unimpressed and doesn't want to be around the new dog. I also recognize that it has been less than 24 hours and this is not necessarily indicative of how it will go forever. Mostly looking for some advice to make senior dog more comfortable, still feel included and wanted, and to hopefully bring him to a level of tolerance if not friendship with new dog. Also, any tips for helping new dog get the hint that senior dog doesn't want to play, and to calm him down when he is in that playful mood as it can affect his previous injury. While there certainly are plenty of examples of MCU following a serious moment with a joke and some of them took that style of humor too far (hello the two Thor movies directed by Taika Waititi) or the jokes just fell flat period (most of the sexual humor around Black Widow in Iron Man 2, Fury losing his eye because of a cat in Captain Marvel, all of the Fat-Thor stuff in Endgame etc.), a lot of people have a very flanderized idea of MCU's humor.
First of all, if you are that guy who writes "that just happened" everytime people talk about MCU humor, you are basically admitting in my eyes that you are just parroting a meme, without having seen many MCU movies yourself, because so far zero MCU movies or tv-shows have done that joke.
Second, this idea that blockbusters used to take themselves seriously pre-MCU keeps popping up everywhere and I don't know how anyone can believe that. Oblivously styles of humor change depending on the era of cinema we are talking about and some individual movies are more serious than the others, but like, blockbusters have always been about giving the audience a fun ride, which includes ton of comic-relief. How are the constant one-liners in 80's action movies fundamentally any different from MCU quips? The dialogue of your average buddy cop action/comedy doesn't sound all that different from typical MCU movie's. If Pirates of the Caribbean was released today, so many people who currently hold it as an example of the "good-ol' days" of blockbusters would now scream how it "MCU-fied" the pirate/swashbuckler genre. Can you imagine how many people would say that Cameron turned T-800 into a "MCU character", if T2 came out today and had all the same goofy moments between the Terminator and John Connor? Frigging Ghostbusters, which film nerds love to put on this huge pedestal, basically invented the MCU formula of putting a group of comedic actors into a sci-fi/fantasy/adventure plot and letting them riff their way through it.
Lastly, it has been very interesting to compare the discourse around the Spider-Verse movies in comparison to MCU (side-note, I will mention something from Across the Spider-Verse, which hasn't been in the trailers or the like. It's nothing plot-relevant, but this is your warning, if you haven't seen the movie and don't want to know anything before it). Obviously the two are stylistically very different, since one is live-action and the other animated, but I don't think they are tonally that different. And yet, there are so many jokes in Spider-Verse that MCU could never get away with making, without all the nerds going mad on twitter. To give one example from each, MCU made one joke about how it's kinda silly that the real name of a super-villain with an octopus-gimmick just happens to be "Otto Octavius", while ATSPV uses in-name-only version of Scarlet-Spider as a walking parody of the angsty writing of the 90's comics and the point seems to be "this character is lame", in a movie franchise that is clearly going for a meta-message of "every incarnation of Spider-Man is valid". I'm not interested in starting/being part of any "MCU vs. Spider-Verse" flamewars, but it is kinda weird how it is the former that fans generally see as the filmmakers being disrespectful to the source material.
At the end of the day, humor is and will always be very subjective. There's isn't really any objective way to measure which jokes are or aren't effective, especially when it comes to globally released big budget movies, which are seen by people from various different cultural backrounds. Like, I remember how super mad everyone in America got over the "what are those?!" joke in Black Panther, since that was apparently a reference to a meme/shoe commercial, but that was never a thing in Finland, so I just saw it as a cute joke about a sister teasing her brother. But, in terms of the "MCU formula", people have really warped idea of their style of humor, to the point that they have developed a selective memory around them and blockbusters in general. Not saying you have to like them, but please stop with the "that just happened" and "blockbusters used to be serious" nonsense.

- I don't want to come across as a butthurt MCU fanboy or anything like that. While I don't agree with the biggest doomsayers, who believe that everything post-Endgame has been pure crap and MCU has no hope of recovering, I do believe that their average quality has gone down and they are putting out too many things too fast. Even though I would say that (having not seen Quantumania at the time of writing this) only one of the Phase 4/5 projects has been outright terrible (Love & Thunder), outside of selected few they haven't been anything to write home about either. So, I'm not saying that MCU is perfect or doesn't deserve some of the criticisms it has been getting, but I do feel that some of the more popular complaints aren't deserved.
- I understand that different movies and franchises are looked through different "standards". Like, to give a personal example, if and when they get around to rebooting the Friday the 13th franchise, I'm going to look at it less critically than I did the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, even though both are slasher franchises, since F13th movies have always been simple "popcorn horror", while the orignal Halloween is to this day the best of the slasher subgenre and overall a horror classic. So, I try my best to keep all my examples of other movies getting a pass on stuff that people hate about MCU to ones that fall to a similar league/target demographic as MCU.

And so on.The view has been that scandium could be used in numerous large-volume applications, if only supplies were sufficient to meet the potential demand. Manufacturers regularly cited a lack of sufficient scandium supply as the reason why they did not roll out new uses and products containing scandium.After a near-mythic role in the 1980s (as a strengthening agent in aluminium alloys deployed in the last generation of Soviet MiG fighter aircraft and even, reputedly, in ballistic missile nosecones), scandium entered the banal in the 1990s, in sporting goods and, bizarrely, hand guns. Bloom Energy turned the tide starting around 2010, with its introduction of fuel cells based on scandium-stabilised zirconia ceramic electrolytes. Bloom has grown rapidly and now represents perhaps 80% of the world’s annual consumption of SCANDIUM, a paltry 25t or so of oxide in 2021.And yet, despite these rickety foundations, SCANDIUM consumption is poised to grow dramatically in the next decade, buoyed by new sources of supply and sustained by demand-side innovation.The supply sideLet’s start with supply. Until about 2018, most scandium was supplied as a by-product in China and Russia, from uranium and titanium processing. Since then, however, much has changed.First, Sumitomo Metal Mining built and has now commissioned a scandium recovery circuit at its Tagano Bay nickel high pressure acid leach (HPAL) plant in the Philippines. This plant recovers scandium oxalate for processing into oxide (and probably into scandium-zirconium oxide particles destined for Bloom Energy) in Japan. The plant recovers 7-8tpy of scandium oxide and when commissioned increased global supply by around 40%. Capital costs were perhaps US$5M/t of scandium oxide. Second, the Chinese integrated titanium producer Lomon Billions has established a 20-30tpy scandium oxide facility with the potential to increase to 50tpy. The company estimates up to 100tpy of scandium oxide are available in its titanium plants using the sulphate process. Third, in 2021, Rio Tinto commenced scandium recovery from its Sorel Tracy plant in Québec, Canada. The pilot plant can supply 3tpy of scandium oxide and cost US$6M. The site has the ability to supply an estimated 50-60tpy of oxide based on current raw material feed. Finally, UC Rusal has both commissioned a 3tpy pilot scandium oxide plant, recovering scandium oxide from red mud deposits, and also commenced marketing and selling a range of scandium alloys (branded “ScAlution” alloys) that boast enhanced performance at low (typically 0.1%) concentrations of scandium. Plus, it is not only Rusal that has pioneered low-scandium alloys. In the USA, Eck Industries, a specialist aluminium casting house, is commercialising cerium-based alloys in which scandium, again at low loadings, could provide additional strength as well as much reduced post-cast processing requirements. Looking further out, there are numerous scandium projects in development, many of which should come into production around the middle of the decade, thanks to two parallel forces. The main driver for scandium, as for so many minor metals, is vehicle electrification. There are multiple operating and development projects utilising HPAL technology to recover and separate nickel and cobalt in laterite deposits, many of which can in principle recover scandium. While the moral of Tagano Bay is that for existing plants retrofitting can be costly and low yield, there are emerging projects in Australia that are designing scandium recovery into their circuits alongside nickel and cobalt. The potential output of scandium can range from 50-100tpy or more, depending on the project. The second driver is the heightened concerns over supply chain security for critical metals. In the EU this has led to the “ScaVanger” programme to recover scandium from titanium waste streams. In the USA, red mud scandium recovery as well as by-product scandium stand to benefit. The demand sideThe demand side is a little more complicated but nonetheless extremely positive. Bloom’s power generation business continues to grow and has surely been reinforced by severe power disruptions in the past three years in California and Texas. Moreover, Bloom has now received initial approvals for maritime power generation (IMO regulations are forcing seagoing vessels to reduce dramatically their sulphur emissions, and Bloom can facilitate this change), and Bloom is also developing its technology to run in reverse, so to speak, as a generator of hydrogen. Critically, Bloom in the past five years has managed to bring its system costs and performance under control, removing any technology-related going-concern issues.Scandium is also a strong candidate for RF antennas able to support 5G frequencies. A typical high-end cell phone may require 100 RF filters, and in the 5G frequency range, scandium aluminium nitride is being used as the active material in these filters (called “bulk acoustic wave,” or “BAW” filters). Aerospace is a third area of application, and while commercial aviation likely remains years away from broad use of scandium alloys, near-term use in space and autonomous aircraft is an avenue for strong potential growth of scandium alloys. The cost to place 1kg in orbit has dropped dramatically but is still of the order of US$1,000/kg, so any system weight reductions can be extremely valuable. Electric vehicles (EVs) also offer the potential for large volumes of scandium demand. Weight reduction is the obvious reason. Lux Research has estimated a 1kg weight saving in an EV will be worth US$5 in 2030. But a second consideration is overall product cost. Scandium can reduce or potentially even eliminate the need for post-casting heat treatments, which can in some instances double the cost of an as-cast part. Thus the savings from the use of scandium alloys, especially at low scandium loadings, can be large. In addition, as EVs shift to heat pumps in their HVAC systems, scandium can support the implementation of aluminium radiators without adding substantial system volume (as discussed by CM Group in its 2018 scandium report). Naturally, there are other opportunities for scandium. Achieving a robust aluminium alloy able to perform at 300°C could displace large amounts of titanium, and Eck’s alloys are closing in on this goal. Maritime applications, especially in the military arena but also in autonomous vessels and ferries, could embrace scandium thanks to its greatly enhanced anti-corrosion impact in aluminium. Passenger jets are also a market that is likely to happen at some point. Most important, perhaps, is the fact that well financed firms have entered the market and are able to supply up to about 100tpy each. Supply at this level is all-but-certain to create demand, and in turn this should stimulate new supply. Scandium’s chicken-and-egg problem, in which lack of supply held back demand that in turn held back supply, has been reversed, with growing (and reliable) supply poised to stimulate actual demand, that in turn will pull through new supply, and transform scandium from “if” to “when”. One pathway to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions is to generate electricity using hydrogen or synthetic liquid fuels, which are more efficient than combustion engines and easily used in co-generation of electricity and heat (IEA, 2019). The functional technology is a fuel cell. A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) produces electricity by oxidizing an energy carrier. The standard SOFCs produced by Bloom Energy are refrigerator-sized and input liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons (methane or biogas) to produce 100 kW of power. These cells process natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen to generate electricity with higher efficiency; up to two times higher compared to a gas-fired power station with efficiency of only 33–48% (Deepika et al., 2018). They are typically used to produce electricity and heat on-site for large buildings (Bloom Energy, 2021a). Currently, SOFC producers (e.g., Bloom Energy) utilize yttrium-stabilized zirconia and a scandia-stabilized zirconia in electrolytes; however, there are benefits of utilizing scandium over yttrium. Use of scandia-stabilized zirconia increases electro-conductivity and decreases operation temperature, resulting in higher efficiency and reliability (Deepika et al., 2018; Laguna-Bercero et al., 2009). Spurred by carbon reduction and global renewable energy initiatives, Bloom Energy is expanding its partnership worldwide (Bloom Energy, 2020, 2021b), resulting in increased demand in the SOFC market and scandium oxide required to produce SOFC boxes (Weinstein et al., 2018). Scandium also has potential for light-weighting (alloys), which is important for improving fuel economy as it requires less energy to transport lighter materials. Currently, transportation contributes 27% to total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and 14% globally (EPA, 2022; IEA, 2022b). The Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards require vehicle manufacturers to continuously increase fuel efficiency (NHTSA, 2022). One approach is through light-weighting by replacing conventional aluminum alloy parts in vehicles with scandium alloys, potentially reducing 10% of vehicle mass and thus 6–8% of emissions (Joost, 2012). Given that the United States passenger vehicle emissions were 3.2 gigatonnes in 2020, this would translate to 0.2–0.3 gigatonnes of reduction (IEA, 2022a). In the United States, the Build Back Better agenda mandates 50% of new vehicles in 2030 must be EVs (The White House, 2021). To push emission reductions further than electric vehicle adoption, light-weighting should be considered. If legislation mandated regulation like Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards for EVs, there will be further reductions in energy demand. Lighter scandium alloys serve to reduce energy demand from transportation, which directly aids to mitigate climate change induced by automobiles. Another example of light-weighting is for commercial airplanes. The bionic partition structure is a wall partition between crew members and passengers, which also serves as an emergency stretcher and foldable seating for crew members (Airbus, 2016). Current commercial airplane's partition structures are bulky and heavy, weighing approximately 63 kg (Lau, 2016). Airbus and AutoDesk collaborated and successfully produced a 30 kg bionic partition structure using Scalmalloy®, a proprietary aluminum-magnesium-scandium alloy (APWORKS GmbH, 2015; Rhodes, 2015). Replacement of 4 conventional partition structures per A320 plane in commercial aircraft with Scalmalloy® structures could save up to 465,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year (Airbus, 2016). Despite scandium's potential role in meeting future sustainability goals, historically and currently, scandium is under-utilized because of its low supply and high cost due to its nature as a by-product. Prices of scandium oxide ranged from $3,800–5,000 per kg from 2013 to 2020 (Gambogi, 2017, 2020, 2021), placing scandium among the most expensive elements in production. High prices and low supply are due in part to its production as a co-product - production is dependent on the demand of other primary metals it is mined with. For example, when there is an increase in scandium demand and price, supply does not respond instantaneously because producers need to increase production of the primary products. This leads to price volatility. Scandium oxide is produced as a co-product due to its sparse concentration in ore, which makes it uneconomical to mine alone. It has been extracted as a co-product with iron ore, other rare earths, titanium, and zirconium in China; uranium in Kazakhstan and Ukraine; apatite (phosphorus) and uranium in Russia; and nickel in the Philippines (Gambogi, 2021). The global production of scandium oxide was 14–23 tonnes (15–25 tons) per year in 2020 (Gambogi, 2021), which was small in comparison to 220,000 tonnes (240,000 tons) of global rare earths oxide per year (Cordier, 2022) and 68 million tonnes (75 million tons) of aluminum per year (Lee Bray, 2022). Scandium appears to continue as a co-product in the future, for the most part. Mining companies expect scandium to be a minor co-product from mining other metals such as nickel, cobalt, titanium, niobium, etc. (Clean TeQ Holdings Limited, 2018; NioCorp Superalloy Materials, 2019; Platina Resource Limited, 2021; Wang et al., 2020). There is one exception in New South Wales, Australia by Scandium International Mining Corporation, whose primary product is scandium oxide (Scandium International Mining Corp, 2020). For consumption, SOFCs by Bloom Energy are the main scandium oxide consumer with 74% of total global consumption (CM Group, 2018). A typical Bloom Energy server box of 100 MW contains 13–15 kg of scandium oxide and costs $700,000–800,000 in 2010 (Ecclestone, 2020; Jenkins, 2010). Before subsidies, Bloom Energy servers cost approximately $0.14 per kilowatt-hour of electricity compared to $0.10 per kilowatt-hour of retail power price on the U.S. national grid (Helman, 2020). 2023.06.08 12:49 hopalong2019 Dog panting and won't put toy down
Hello! Yesterday when we got home from work my 3 year old boxer was panting excessively, and was carrying around this specific toy that is her favorite and randomly pacing and whining without any clear reason. We thought maybe she was just upset we were gone, however this morning my husband got home from work and she was still doing it. No diarrhea, no lethargy, literally no other symptoms, she just carries around this toy, whines for 2 minutes and paces, then lays down with the toy next to her, rinse and repeat. My 7 year old boxer has never done this and this is very new for the 3 year old. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
