2023.06.10 12:53 Apprehensive_One1241 A 40$ North Face backpack for a toddler? I haven’t even spent that much on a backpack for myself.

So she can’t afford 6.99$ chicken and fries but buys her toddler a 40$ Jan Sport backpack for daycare/preschool that will probably get swiped? I mean, it’s her money but she says that she makes no money to where she cant afford take out for her kid. Walmart has 10$ mini backpacks that work just as well imo. I’m not even sure if this is a snark but more of confusion on her spending habits and priorities.

What does everyone eat when on the road for work?
I travel a lot for work, work 14 hours a day and gym for 2. Doesn’t leave me with much time for cooking, thats if I’m lucky enough to have a kitchenette in my hotel. So I’ve been heavy on these Walmart precooked meatballs and microwaveable rice.
Does anyone got any go to for easy macro friendly food to eat when on the road. I’ve done rotisserie chickens but they’re not as convenient/doesn’t stay good as long as the meatballs. While the macros are not ideal (I realize it’s a lot of fat for one meal.) I’m still around where I wanna at the end of the day.

Thai “Larb” turkey lettuce wraps with sticky rice
The whole pan of larb Turkey is probably around 600 calories and is delicious.
1 cup sticky rice is about 170 calories and quite filling - can do with or without this, but I’d recommend with.
Recipe:
Brown 1lb ground Turkey in pan (480 calories) can substitute Turkey with beef, pork or chicken. Pork is most common in Thailand, but higher calories.
remove from heat
Add FRESH lime juice from 3 limes, 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 2 tbsp fish sauce, salt, MSG, powdered chili peppers to taste. (All these really to taste but use this as a starting point)
Add 2 shallots, green onions or chives, cilantro and mix into meat.
Not necessary, but good: add toasted sticky rice sprinkled on top (simple - just watch a how to video on YouTube)
Then make lettuce wraps with Thai sticky rice (optional), lettuce, and cucumbers.
Thai sticky rice can be bought from a Thai restaurant, or look up the process and equipment on YouTube.
OR just eat with a spoon

2023.06.10 05:03 RebelJustforClicks Is there such a thing as a "medium stick" pan?

I'll start out by saying I have and prefer cooking most things on a traditional cast iron pan. But sometimes I'm just not in the mood to hand wash and grab the non-stick pan.
But when you cook something like chicken fillets or skinless sausages where you want to deglaze and make a sauce from the stuck on bits, you really have no choice but to use a cast iron. I find that my non-stick pan just doesn't generate sticky bits no matter what I do.
I tried stainless pans a while ago and I'll admit they were rather cheap, but I found they offered all the downsides of both non-stick and cast iron, stuff got stuck on and wouldn't come off easy if at all, poor heat retention and warped if you used high heat.
I guess maybe an enameled cast iron would be what I'm looking for? Can you toss those in the dishwasher? That's really what I'd be looking for TBH.

2023.06.10 04:38 daclipshow AITA for not letting my dad have any Béarnaise sauce?

I stopped my parents house and decided to cook for my dad while we watch the NBA Finals.
Got a new Béarnaise sauce recipe and was really excited to make it with some chicken.
We season the chicken breast together (same old salt, pepper, etc.) and fry it in a pan as I’m preparing the sauce in another pot.
Chickens about to be finished when my dad said he doesn’t want the chicken to burn at the bottom of the pan so he wants to add a soy sauce base or something so that the chicken will soak it up and not burn at the bottom.
I’m totally confused as to why we need to do this. The chicken is done, we could just put it on a plate and wait 5 mins while the Béarnaise sauce is almost ready.
I ask him why does he need to add a base? I tell him I want him to try the sauce first.
He seems dead set on it and I remove my pieces of chicken and let him add his base.
At that point I’m pissed and get quiet. He can visually see me become mad. I come cook for you and am super excited to have you try a new recipe without it being messed with.
Foods all ready and I apply the Béarnaise sauce on top of my chicken and my dad asks for some. I refuse.
I said you didn’t seem interested in trying it all since you made your own sauce, so you can just add more soy sauce if you want.
He says he was worried that the Béarnaise sauce would be too bland, and that he just want to prevent that.
I refuse to give him the Béarnaise sauce, and I place it on the oven as I sit down and eat.
He can go grab it, that’s fine, but I won’t serve it to him. He knows I’m mad, he knows there’s tension in the room. He doesn’t go for the sauce and just eats his chicken as is.
No talking commences, we’re just eating and watching the game.
My feeling is why doesn’t he trust me? Why is he so controlling? He knows I’m excited to cook for him, why does he always have to alter or “fix” my cooking, shit, everything else I do.
AITA for declining to give my dad any Béarnaise sauce?

2023.06.10 04:18 Ze_BaconLord Chick-fil-A isn’t that good.

Soggy, cold waffle fries, chicken is the same as any chicken, just smaller and more expensive, drinks might suck, or only suck a little. I cannot stress this enough, the sauce is mediocre as hell. Same with the chicken sandwich. Albeit the Mac&Cheese… is the only good thing on their menu. Despite all this I still hear people sucking on Chick-fil-A’s Hen. Ofcourse these are the same people who have never went to a Canes or Joellas.
I don’t know, that’s just all I can think of Chick-fil-A no matter which one I go to in whichever place. What do you guys think?

2023.06.10 03:10 BigMovesGroup Do you have to go to multiple supermarkets to get all the foods you want?

My main store has a lot, but lack in some speciality things and even sometimes basic things that I have to go to a different supermarket for.
Then sometimes I need a condiment that only Wal Mart has. I buy my meats and coffee from Costco. The ShopRite has THE best produce but the Acme has the best canned tomatoes so at the end of the day I have like 6 stores that I rotate through depending on what I need.
Perfect example was today when I went to the market near me for cilantro. I normally dislike this market but I really needed cilantro and it's a close walk. I then come across this nice coarse corn meal that I've been wanting to add to my bread that all the other stores don't have. I couldn't find this type of corn meal anywhere since most places only stock fine ground cornmeal but I so happen to come across the coarse stuff today.
Another example is Kikoman Sweet Soy Sauce. Nobody except the Walmart near me stocks that stuff.
Rice is another one! I have to go to the Indian specialty store for my rice because they're the only place that I know that carries my favorite brand. (this is where I also get my spices + MSG)
Was just wondering if anyone else has to hunt for certain things like I do.
