(Friday, June 9, 2023) – As a part of multi-faceted and continued efforts to address gun violence, Mayor Malik D. Evans today released a Gun Trace Data Report compiled by Brady.
The City commissioned the national, nonpartisan organization in late 2021 to conduct an in-depth analysis of firearms used in crimes and recovered by the Rochester Police Department between 2012 and 2022. Brady utilized data from the Rochester Police Department (RPD) and its open data portal, which serves as an open resource for information about RPD crime data.
The 28-page report, redacted by the ATF before its release, provides a high-level overview of crime guns across the country, and dives deeper into details around the 6,036 crime guns recovered in the City of Rochester between 2012 and 2022.
The Tiahrt Amendment to the 2003 federal appropriations bill restricts the ATF from publicly releasing disaggregated gun trace data, which is why Rochester’s report has been redacted.
“This report synthesizes 11 years’ worth of gun trace data,” said Mayor Evans. “I appreciate the work of our police officers and the RPD’s data team, and the work of the Brady team to make this information digestible and actionable.”
“In addition, I want to celebrate the efforts of community leaders – specifically the Roc Against Gun Violence Coalition and City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot – for championing this project through several years,” he said.
Rochester is among a small number of states and cities to release its crime gun trace data.
"We applaud Rochester for leading the initiative in identifying the source of crime guns in their city, and we encourage other cities and localities to follow suit," said Kris Brown, president of Brady. "Gun violence plagues every city and community in the U.S., and local officials need individualized solutions to address this epidemic. This report provides critical information about the characteristics, trends, and gun industry sources of crime guns recovered in Rochester, which is necessary to craft evidence-based solutions.”
The report notes that, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Uniform Crime Report, Rochester’s overall crime rate falls below the national average. However, Rochester’s homicides, especially firearm-involved homicides, rose between 2019 and 2022 — and at a higher rate than many cities of far greater size.
The report illustrates:

• The majority of Rochester’s crime guns come from out-of-state sources
  • 57% were purchased out-of-state
  • 43% were purchased from dealers within New York State
• A small percentage of firearms dealers sell a disproportionate number of Rochester’s crime guns
  • The majority of guns recovered by the RPD come from just 10% of dealers, and 28% of crime guns recovered by the RPD were traced to just 1% of the dealers
• Most of the dealers that sold the highest numbers of crime guns are located in Monroe County
  • Of the crime guns sold by the “top 30” crime gun dealers, 53% came from dealers located in Monroe County; 13% are/were located elsewhere within New York State; and 34% are/were located out-of-state
• Dealers with the most traces tend to be independent businesses, but chain stores are also significant sources of crime guns
• Crime guns circulate long after their dealers go out of business
• Ghost guns are on the rise

“Although there are currently no gun dealers currently operating within the city of Rochester, the city bears the brunt of the impact of gun violence in our community,” said Councilmember Willie Lightfoot. “This report underlines the importance of partnerships across jurisdictions so we can work together to address the supply side of crime guns.”
In addition, the report identifies those dealers that sold the most guns with a short “time-to-crime" (the time elapsed from retail sale to recovery by law enforcement), and identifies those dealers that sold multiple weapons that were used in homicides in Rochester.
“Even with all the information this gun trace data report provides, it will not solve gun crime in Rochester,” said Mayor Evans. “It is, however, another important piece of the puzzle, and we will use this information along with other tools and strategies to continue our fight against deadly gun violence.”
The City of Rochester continues to leverage its strong working partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement entities, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, U.S. Marshals Service, the ATF, and probation and parole offices.
The new Gun Trace Data Report will be used to inform additional initiatives, and will guide City leaders in advocating for local and state leaders to identify ways to address problematic gun dealers.

Needing some help and or advice soooo...There are two of the tjmaxs in my area outside and around the Houston area and they used to have all their Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Chloe, fucking YSL, Alexander Wang etcetc very expensive very high end bags with those alarm tags attached to them that I'd you just cut or hit them the wrong way they would pierce any one around you ear drums.... but they had to be locked around a piece of the purse that was metal usually what held the handles so all you had to do was bring a pair of plyers move the metal around till u found the gap and then slide the remote right off. I was very good at sneaky the bags in the dressing rooms. Then a few years ago they started to either intertwine all their high end bags with wires running through them and clipped somewhere or they are behind a glass case. Still trying to figure out how to set up an opportunitywhen someone else is looking at it thats in on it and then im able to grab it. Does anyone have ANY idea how to get around that situation??? Is there anyway to cut the wires if you're very good at being non chalant??? Or does anyone know any TJmax in Texas that has yet to go the extra mile like my two have done in and around the Houston area????? Please lemme know. ASAP or any other ideas for stealing high end bags or I guess I mean good places to do that please lemme know. Thank u thank u.

“Ok, before we get started with this press conference, I just wanted to say thank you to the members of the media who could make it here today for this very important announcement.
Now with that out of the way, we can begin. I am announcing the success, and the final stages of the Territorial Control Plan. El Salvador waged war on the gangs, waged war on the murder rate, and waged war against crime, and won. Take a look outside, take a look at the streets across the country, it has never been safer before.
To throw some numbers at you, the homicide rate per every 100,000 inhabitants has fallen to 1, compared to 2015 where it was 103. 11 years later, my administration was able to reduce the murder rate by a factor greater than 100. This is what progress and success look like. The people of El Salvador deserve to live their lives free of the threat of violence, free of the threat they must bow to gangs, free to experience everything the country has to offer.
This success would not have been possible if not for the implementation of numerous programs, and the brave actions of our armed forces and police. Not to mention the strict immigration protocols that have kept thousands of potential criminals out of the country.
For the future, I intend to maintain a zero tolerance policy on gangs, and ideally, our neighbors will adopt the same policies. Now with crime under control, I can double my efforts on boosting the economy, attracting investment, and restoring El Salvador to prosperity.

Yeah, you could say that again, but it’s just something we will have to get used to now I imagine, especially considering I’ll be living here for the foreseeable future. At least it isn’t humid as well, like back home. And I can’t really complain, the new embassy is very, very nice, probably the nicest one we have honestly. It certainly helps that the Emiratis were very accommodating with setting up everything.
My job is important, of course, as the ambassador. Future relations with the United Arab Emirates are a gateway towards more foreign investment into the country, not to mention the benefits from working with the UAE. We need foreign investment, and they are more than happy to provide, it’s a mutual benefit, obviously.

Memo: On Nationwide CCTV and Surveillance
Following the investment of approximately $10 million USD into the establishment of a city-wide CCTV network across San Salvador around 3 years ago, the results have been most promising. Crime rates have dropped significantly, and case closure rates have skyrocketed following the introduction of the CCTV network. Furthermore, gang activity in the city has plummeted, along with the murder rate, with the city experiencing its first year with 0 murders.
Polling done by the government finds that residents of San Salvador report much higher feelings of safety and security than before the network was rolled out. Business polling finds that fewer businesses are being robbed or vandalized, and that the police have been very efficient on catching those who commit crimes.
The police force has taken the introduction of the CCTV in stride, and used the opportunity to expand its ranks to accommodate for the expected surge of casework. As such, the national police now has more experience and officers capable of dealing with surveillance and safety. It has been recommended by the police force that this program be rolled out nationwide, with the goal of having as much of the country as possible under surveillance.
As per the agreement, all data and statistics are being shared with the UAE as a major investor in the project. With further investment from the UAE, to the tune of approximately $50 million USD, along with our own funding, we should be able to take this program nationwide. Ideally, the effects it has had in San Salvador can be replicated.

Autism has caused me lifelong amount of misunderstandings and i've been wronged countless times.
People act as if we choose to be autists and can stop at any time and fail to understand it's a permanent disease which kills off many good aspects of life others view as self-evident, having people truly understand you emotionally is a close to non-existing luxury neurotypicals find more connections with people often thanks to their superior brain chemistry which isn't fucked up.
My personal experience with late-diagnosed aspergers life has left me wronged by others so many times that i am no longer able to put myself vulnerable anywhere (asking someone for a date for example is simply not happening because i make myself way too vulnerable in that situation and fear rejection, even after downing 8 drinks i still cannot find courage to make myself vulnerable it's ingrained so deep into me) no-one understands us, even our own kind can't undertsand each other.
I feel like autism is hell which others cannot see, it's all invisible demons haunting you for your whole life restricting who you are i cannot think autism as nothing else than severe punishment for my past life.
Autistic people have high suicide rates and Many mass shooters have shown to own some autistic traits aswell which is proof that we have life so miserable we want to end it and sometimes some of us take the misery to others.
The endless isolation is suffocating.
I so often see myself pleasing others just for the sake of social stimulus (i never question them or if i do it's rare) i feel like i either kiss someone's ass or i'm myself truthfully which kills the friendship inside a year always.
I never give my opinions because no-one cares, i'm constantly talked over and interrupted when i have the speaking turn.
If people around me mention me it's always in negative light, i have enemies in every direction but no allies for what? Existing.
Most autists are unable to hold a job which i fear is the case with me aswell because my anxiety skyrockets when i work and i get suicidal tendencies and burn outs shortly after holding a job for a while.
Only way for me to be happy in this world is with money since i will not find love, i'm too broken for that. And since i'm unable to hold a job i will not have money.
I feel like i'm everyone's target everywhere once people notice my existence.
Only way i'm able to be even slightly happy is through videogames cause i can escape this hell and pretend i'm someone capable of something that doesn't suffer from this paralyzing hell.
I've heard that asperger gets worse with age so i hope to whoever i was in my past life that the crimes i did were worth all this isolation and misery.

Hi, I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I really don't have any idea about working as lab techs in the states especially in Texas.
I am Korean and have been working in South Korea as a lab tech (MLS) for around 10 years. I am currently working in the US Army hospital in South Korea. I recently got my ASCPi license, and I am waiting for my green card to move to Bryan, Texas. I have never lived in the states. The hospitals I know in Texas are Baylor Scott & White and MD Anderson. Are they the best employers for lab techs in Texas? How much I can ask for hour rate?
I also saw a job add states '7 to 7 night shift with signing bonus 15K'. I have never seen 7 to 7 night shift in Korea. Seems like working 7 nights straightly is too tough... How much would you ask for your hourly rate if you had 10 years experience?
I might be ended up applying jobs around Bryan because I don't want to drive too far. At the same time, I feel like I am giving opportunities up if I only search jobs around this small town. Do big cities like Houston, Dallas, Austin have better work environment? (Payment, lab facilities, study cases...)

In a few years from now I will graduate college and work. I am wondering about where I should live or what place is right for me. Right now I live in a small town in Indiana. I was thinking about moving to a somewhat bigger city in Indiana, but now I’m not to sure if I want to stay here or not. One of my friends thinks I would like it in Japan and another thinks I would like it in California. So I’m going to list my preferences for what kind of area I would want to live in or just random information that might make a difference.
-I prefer to live in a suburban type area. (Somewhere that isn’t a huge city but not a small town either.)
-I want to live in a house. I would hate living in an apartment building forever.
-I would want to have my own car and drive it around. I don’t think I would like being in a subway all the time.
-I don’t want to live somewhere that has a high crime rate. I want there to be little crime.
-I want to live in a safe place. I don’t want to deal with dangerous places weather that be people or issues with nature.
-I think it would be cool to live in a beachy area but I also don’t want to deal with hurricanes.
-I think it would be cool to live in California but they have a lot of wildfires and things are expensive there. But maybe it wouldn’t matter if I made a lot of money.
-I want a decent sized backyard. I want to own a trampoline.
-I don’t plan on having kids and I probably won’t get married either.
-I want to be able to walk around and get exercise.
-I would want there to be nice places to shop.
-I don’t want to live in a boring place with nothing to do.
-I would love to explore my city and go to new places in it and walk around a lot.
-I would prefer to be in a liberal area. I would want to be around people that are pro lgbt.

-I don’t want to live in a poor area. I want to live in a place that I would make a lot of money from or at least a decent amount. (I plan on becoming an interior designer.)

Earlier today I was waiting to turn right on a road with a protected lane that did not require drivers to immediately merge left. While watching the oncoming traffic and with my head turned, I eased off my brakes and bumped the back of the car in front of me, which was completely stopped despite the road being clear. It was clearly my fault for hitting him, I had assumed he’d drive in our protected lane and failed to double check.
We pulled over and inspected our cars, and there was very little damage. The front bumper’s plastic of my car had already been scuffed from another day, and his back bumper had a few markings, in addition to some that had clearly been there before me (different color paint and not located where I collided with him). Though his car has a few dings, my car is visibly no different.
He was clearly in a rush to get to work and asked to trade numbers. I called him from my phone, so we could confirm that we both had the other’s #. I offered to swap insurances, and though he assured me he had it and pulled a insurance-looking folder from his car, I did not get a picture of it and he did not ask to see mine. I got a picture of the back of his car and license plate, he did not take any pictures and left.
I later received a call where he stated he didn’t think it was a big deal, and that he’d prefer to not go through insurance and cause either of us any stress/complication that comes with that. He said he would have his brothesomebody look at his car and the damages and he’d get back to me, with the implication that I would make the situation “right,” although we have not discussed what that would entail.
I’m wondering if so far I have been doing everything right. I obviously would have liked to get his insurance information, but I do like the idea of not going through insurance as I am already paying high rates. I have his name (caller ID), license plate, phone number and have found him on facebook. We have not spoken outside of the initial encounter and later call, and he has no information on me. Do I need to give him my information for any reason? I am worried that his “brother” and him may come up with a large figure for me to pay, and am stressed at the thought of him asking me to pay for a large amount when the damage truthfully cannot be much. Any advice would be appreciated, I know this question seems pretty elementary and I may be overthinking.

I (27M) am a single, Black male living in San Diego, CA at the moment, and just finished getting my MA. I currently work FT for a federal contractor but I just landed a job teaching at a local community college.
I’ve been looking to move to a different state for a while now and on almost everyone of my searches New Jersey, specifically the Jersey City area kept popping up. Crime rates seem manageable, housing (at least for what I can afford) is A LOT better than what I’m paying for now, and it looks walkable.
The difficult part is that I haven’t been able to talk to people who’ve lived there to get the “insider” perspective. So, does anybody have any feedback on what it’s like living in the Jersey City area? What’s the best part(s) about living in the area? The worst part(s)? Would you recommend the area? Let me know!

Realignment explanation:
Geographically speaking this makes sense, but to make it work the Pirates and Royals would have to switch divisions, and the Rockies would have to switch leagues. The NL South must be filled up with Carolina due to a large population between both states (15M) and then either New Orleans or Nashville. I tried keeping traditional rivals intact, like the Cubs-Cardinals or Yankees-Red-Sox.
Expansion team explanation:
Carolina is a must. There’s 15,000,000 between both North and South Carolina as I said before, and referring to the team as “Charlotte” limits it to only North Carolina. For the other southern team, Tennessee or New Orleans would work, probably Tennessee due to a larger population. For the names, I chose Avocets and Buzzards because they are simply cool birds that fit in well with the names Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Orioles.
Postseason:
The postseason will have only the #1 seed from each league getting a bye to the ALDS/NLDS. The rest of the teams will face off in a best of 5 Wild Card round. A 7th seed will be added, and it’ll be #2 vs. #7, #3 vs. #6, and #4 vs. #5, with each higher seed having the home field advantage. The winners of the Wild Card round advance to the ALDS/NLDS to face off in a best of 7, then advance to the ALCS/NLCS in a best of 7, then the WS.

Hey everyone,
I wanted to get some feedback from everyone’s perspective here on my particular situation and whether it’s worth leaving my job or not for an internship, especially in regard to the current job market climate.
I currently work at a big biotech company in QC and make $73,000 / year as my base salary. I also have 53 shares that are expected to vest in November which will be approx. $11,000. I would be up for another merit review in March 2024 where I could get at most, $30,000 in RSU that vests over 4 years. My WLB is pretty good and my job has been very flexible with my work schedule since I’m still in school for my graduate degree. I am able to work from home a bit, depending on workload, and would say the ratio is about 90/10 for onsite/remote. Although these are huge advantages, I was promoted last quarter and have been in my role for close to 2 years…I don’t really see myself growing much more here and I am not wiling to wait X amount of time for another promotion as I already feel that I am underpaid. My next promotion would likely take another 2 years and would take me to around $90,000 base salary / year. With continued RSU grants, I could see this going over > $100,000 / year, assuming I can get the next promotion. Another caveat is that I know I don’t want to work in a lab for the rest of my career. I’ve already worked in a lab space for approximately 4 years (including my last 2 jobs). I am ready to try something new and think this internship I got would be a great way for me to do that. I recently was offered an internship at Tesla at a pay rate of $39.38 / hour with a 1.5x rate for OT in Texas where there is no state income tax. I also have been offered a $2800 (net/after tax) relocation bonus. From what I’ve learned about the internship so far, it would also be centered around QC in a lab doing analytical testing of raw materials.
Now, in order to do this internship, I would need to either A) quit my job or B) take an unpaid leave of absence (assuming I can get one for ~4.5 months which honestly seems unlikely to me even though I think my management really likes me). If I accept the internship and am unable to get the leave of absence from work, I would be forgoing the 53 RSUs that are expected to vest in November (approx. $11,000 valuation) as my internship starts before that. I’d also need to pay back $11,700 in tuition reimbursement that I have received from my current company, though I wouldn’t have to pay this amount back all at once.
I know from a purely financial perspective, this decision makes no sense as I’d be giving up a lot of money and losing my job security. With this in mind, I feel like accepting the internship would be loss in the short term, but a gain for me in the long term. I think my potential earnings would be greater with experience from a company like Tesla vs if I stay in my current role at my current company. Furthermore, I think it would give me connections to advance my career later down the line when I finish school. I also recognize going from one lab job to another seems counter to what I previously said about not wanting my career to be centered around lab work anymore, but I think getting the analytical experience with Tesla is worth it as I could leverage it to secure a better job than I have now. I also don’t have analytical lab experience so I’d be adding even more skills to my current repertoire(currently automation/library prep/sequencing focused).
I’ve been struggling with this decision for a bit and I’d love any and all feedback from everyone’s perspective on this! Thanks in advance!

I was thinking about this topic the other day. Bill Yeoman invented the veer offense at the University of Houston. Jack Pardee went crazy with his run-n-shoot offense at Houston, putting up ridiculous numbers before heading to the NFL. Houston was the first place Art Briles unleashed his triple-option spread/veer-n-shoot offense in college. Dana Holgerson and Kliff Kingsbury both established their Air Raid street cred at Houston. Houston has always been a hotbed for offensive innovation in college football.
Finding a place that is a hotbed for defensive innovation is a little more difficult. Gary Patterson invented his 4-2-5 scheme at New Mexico during his tenure from 1996-1997. Rocky Long, one of the gurus of the 33 Stack defense, is a New Mexico alum who spent 19 years over four different tenures in Albuquerque. Long is going to Syracuse, but his protege/former boss Danny Gonzales is the head coach of the Lobos. Gonzales is keeping the Stack under new coordinator Troy Reffett, who was promoted from his position as secondary coach.
The 33 Stack has become part of their defensive identity at New Mexico, kind of like the Air Raid is for Texas Tech. Neither scheme was invented at either school, but it was embraced there and is part of their program identity.
Jon Heacock invented his 33 Odd Stack/3-2-6 scheme at Iowa State. Joe Lee Dunn invented the 33 Stack at Memphis. Urban Meyer arguably invented his spread option scheme at Bowling Green. These are one-off happenings, though, not a pattern of innovation over several tenures.
Which programs do you think are hotbeds for innovation?

I've had such terrible procrastination in starting on my assignments, but I've just enrolled in up-to-date courses and need to start being more serious about studying.
