2023.06.04 06:07 Cultural-Climate-311 HealthMaxxing 101: Basic Nutrition
Hi lovelies,I wanted to start a series on basic guides for healthmaxxing topics based on data/science. This is what I am going to focus on and write up some basic guides for people over the coming month. I plan to write some posts on the basics of nutrition; exercise (strength training, cardio and flexibility), skincare, haircare; hygiene; sleep and also other health related guides and will include all easy to read references on the side so you can actually verify things (much easier than journal articles which requires some basic knowledge of stats and metrics).Prior to getting into this, I want to say all of these are my recommendations based on what I've researched and experienced (been doing this for a while and wrote up an extensive data driven guided for myself ages ago which worked for me).I know everyone has individual circumstances/experiences and so want to preface by saying whatever works for you is great but please try and make discussions/comments below value add for others reading with any data/scientific basis if you are suggesting. As a refreshe//I've written previously, my recommendations for your glow up journey starts with
Cycle 1: high reward/low risk cosmetic procedures and development of a basic grooming routine to get some confidence and feel better about yourself (about 3 months)Cycle 2: Healthmaxxing over a prolonged period (6 months - 1 year) to get yourself at the epitome of health that you can maintain for hopefully the rest of your life.Cycle 3: Hardmaxxing. Once you are at the epitome of health + have a fantastic grooming routine, you can start your surgery journey if need be and intelligently make decisions on what you actually need/have the health basis to recover.*** then cycle through again and again as you learn more.

- 100% whole grains because whole grains because they contain three parts: the bran (fibre-filled with B vitamins and minerals, as well as phytochemicals that help with disease prevention/protect against some cancers); the germ (nutrient pack core with B vitamins, vitamin E, phytochemicals and antioxidants) and the endosperm (starchy carbohydrate middle layer with protein and some vitamins). Outside of this the components have fibre that will allow for better digestion, maintenance of steady blood sugar, prevention of small blood clots etc.
- To tell if a food is high in whole grains choose unprocessed whole grains like:AmaranthBarleyBrown riceBuckwheatBulgurMilletQuinoaRyeOatsWheat BerriesWild Rice
- Otherwise to tell if high in whole grains, Use the five USDA criteria to identify whole grains in a food product
- Whole grain listed as first ingredient (most important thing to look at)
- Added sugars not in the first three ingredients
- Whole before any grain ingredient
- Carb-fibre ratio of less than 10:1
- Industry sponsored whole grain stamp
SUGGESTION: mix grains with lentils to get some extra protein when having rice dishes (and for a good meal, add some roast vegetables, spices and olives)
Protein Key takeaways of some especially healthy protein sources:
- Legumes (Harvard School of Public Health Legumes guide - https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/legumes-pulses/ )
- Legumes (including peas and beans) because they are an inexpensive source of protein, vitamins, complex carbs and fibre
- Be more discriminate with products made from legumes such as tofu, hummus etc. because you want to be on the lookout for added sodium, sugar and saturated fat
- Canned oily fish (Harvard Medical School Article on canned fish - https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/ask_the_doctor_is_canned_fish_good_for_the_heart and Harvard School of Public Health Fish guide - https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/fish/ )
- Canned salmon, tuna, sardines, kippered herring, and other types of fish are pretty much on a par with fresh fish
- They are full of health omega-3 fatty acids which are good for the heart, protect against inflammation and formation of blood clots in arteries. They also are high in vitamin D, selenium, protein and saturated fat
- Smaller fish is better for less mercury and if you choose canned, fish canned in oil is better than water to retain more omega 3 fatty acids
- Benefits from eating fish, outweigh costs of mercury exposure and at levels commonly consumed, there is limited and conflicting evidence for effects of mercury in adults (but those who are pregnant should be cautious and follow the above guidelines)
Getting into the specifics as based on Harvard Medical School Guide on Protein -

https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/protein/ What to avoid:
- Read meat including ** *** since a few people are commenting on this, I have edited the post and included the exact links to the medical journnal research and references which the Harvard School of Public Health is basing their recommendations on (again to reduce consumption and replace with other sources). This is right at the end of the post so please read it (or directly click on the second link above to read everything for yourself). If you have alternate evidence/data pls comment it below because it's useful to all of us (rather than just saying you disagree which has no value add without the evidence to support it). I personally love red meat (though I don't eat much given what i've learned) so I'm not trying to squash the discussion but think it's useful to everyone including myself to see the evidence informing the opinions so we can all make better decisions (and I would love to learn more).
- Beef
- Pork
- Lamb
- Veal
- Goat meat
- Processed meat
- Dairy in moderation
- Soy in moderation because it has other stuff on the label which you need to pay attention to(Harvard School of Public Health quick tips - - https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/2014/02/12/5-quick-tips-choosing-healthy-protein-foods/ )
What to eat lots of:
- Legumes - and if most of the protein comes from plants, make sure you mix up sources so no essential components of protein are missing. Examples includeLentilsBeans like black, chickpeas, kidney, lima, mung, pintoPeas like green, snow, snap, splitEdamame/soybeans and products made from soy like tofu, tempeh
- NutsAlmondsPistachiosCashewsWalnutsHazelnutsPecansHelp seedsPumpkin seedsSunflower seedsFlax seedsChia seeds
- Upgrade source of animal protein to:
- Seafood (fish, crustaceans, molluscs)
- Eggs
- Poultry
- Dairy
- In moderation of 1-2 servings a day
- Yoghurt is better than servings all from milk and cheese
- note that animal based foods (meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy) tend to be good sources of complete proteins whereas plant based foods (vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds) often lack one or more amino acid.
- General guidelines: (NSCA2 )
Suggestion: Eat a variety such as eggs/canned fish breakfast, beans/poultry lunch, salmon/tofu dinner. For cheap easy eats, grain bowls with legumes and tinned fish on toast with picked vegetables is a good go.
Vegetables: After doing an analysis via cronometer on the best foods for various micro intakes (highest amounts and most efficient), here is what I came up with:
- Fibre = Black beans; whole grains like oats; raspberries, artichoke hearts, rhubarb
- Iron = oysters, mushrooms, molluscs, spinach. Liver (and animal sources are better absorbed)
- Calcium = rhubarb, milk; cheese; yoghurt, spinach; okra, tofu,
- Vitamin A = liver (like across all sorts of liver), kale, spinach, lettuce, carrots, yellow and orange vegetables like carrots and pumpkin
- Vitamin C = acerola cherry, red and yellow peppers (particularly this), pineapple, melon, peaches, zucchini, broccoli, spinach, strawberries
- B12 = supplement
- Folate = green vegetables like edamame, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, spinach, beans, lentils, liver
- Potassium = rhubarb, amaranth leaves, legumes, Bok choy, mushrooms, leafy greens (spinach, Swiss chard)
- B1 - B12 = nutritional yeast and whole grains, also liver and mushrooms, eggs
- Vitamin D = mushrooms (all sorts!!!), super high. oily fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, eggs
- Vitamin E = acai berry; sunflower seeds, almonds, red pepper, spinach
- Vitamin K = kale, spinach, sweet potatoes, avocados
- Copper = liver, oysters, kale, mushrooms
- Magnesium = Swiss chard, legumes, spinach, kale hemp seeds
- Manganese = acai berry; chickpeas; blueberries; brown rice, quinoa, chia seeds, liver and zucchini, peppers
- Phosphorous = milk, meat and fish hemp seeds
- Selenium = fish, nuts, eggs, mushrooms (particular tuna, oyster, mixed nuts)
- Zinc = supplement it
- Omega 3 = 3 flaxseeds; chia seeds; mackerel, salmon
- Omega 6 = sunflower seeds, pine nuts, watermelon, sweet and green peppers, kale, spinach
What can be concluded from the above about things that come up the most:
- Eat lots and lots of leafy greens! This is a fantastic bang for your buck for nutrition
- Supplement B12 and vitamin D also add in nutritional yeast
- Some seeds are particularly good like hemp seeds chia seeds; flax seeds and sunflower seeds. Add them to salads and grain bowls
- Mushrooms ( Shiitake, oyster, maitake, and king oyster mushrooms have the highest concentrations of ergothioneine. - harvard)
- Berries for antioxidants
What I personally like to do to stay within calorie limit and meet targets Use two apps:
- Chronometer to track intake
- Dr greger's daily dozen for inspiration and general guidelines in my head on portions (even though I am not vegan, I use it to help think about how much rice I should have or say intake of leafy greens for a side salad)
For my meal plan: I personally find it difficult to have a new meal for all three meals and don't like to spend so much time cooking and having to come up with creative ways to meet micro goals (it's hard because there are so many). So instead I spent a few hours on cronometer to experiment several basic meals I can have during my day to hit most of my micro goals and give myself room for dinner to choose something healthy that isn't so strict.
For me this looks like a:
- Fruit smoothie in the morning with Greek yoghurt; almond milk, berries and other fruits in season. (I struggle to get calcium otherwise in my day and this is the easiest way to make sure I get it)
- 1 big grain bowl lunch OR dinner consisting of:
- Steamed whole grain e.g. wild rice, quinoa.
- airfried easy chicken breast OR tofu/tempeh OR fish depending on what I'm feeling like
- Roast veges/legumes ( I change up the vegetables depending on what's in season and same with legumes depending on what I have).. To do this I simply toss 1 can of a legumes and vegetables with olive oil; spices, a bit of nutritional yeast.. For vegetables I choose vegetables in every one of the below categories for a variety of textures and will alternate depending on what is in season.
- Round root vegetables (like beets, sweet potatoes)
- Mushrooms (compulsory) , Bell peppers, Onions , Cherry tomatoes
- Long root vegetables (like carrots and parsnips)
- Cruciferous vegetables (brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli)
- Greens
- Soft vegetables (like other stuff, eggplant, zucchini)
- Then to top of it off, I will add a bit of lemon juice + cheese and nuts and seeds depending on what is in the pantry
- As a snack/on the side, I will always have a big bowl of mixed greens with easy low calorie dressings I make myself with avocados, nuts, olive oil, herbs (I actually enjoy eating it separately). I don't snack otherwise
- Dinner will be anything I like that is healthy (but isn't so rigid about number of veges etc. because I already have met most of my nutritional needs already) e.g. thai cashew chicken; alison roman's shallot pasta with anchovies with a side salad; dumplings and steamed vegetables; salmon poke bowls; chicken roasts
** I always track my calories to make sure i'm eating well and this keeps me full.
"Research conducted at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health has found that eating even small amounts of red meatâespecially processed red meatâon a regular basis is linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, and the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease or any other cause. [4-6] Conversely, replacing red and processed red meat with healthy protein sources such as beans, soy foods, nuts, fish, or poultry seems to reduce these risks. One of the reasons why plant sources of protein are related to lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared to protein from red meat and dairy is because of the different types of fat in these protein packages. Plant-based protein sources are more unsaturated, which lowers LDL cholesterolâan established risk factor for heart disease. Also, plant sources contain no cholesterol. Other factors are likely to contribute to the lower risk, but this is a key factor."
⢠One investigation followed 120,000 men and women in the Nursesâ Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study for more than two decades. For every additional 3-ounce serving of unprocessed red meat the study participants consumed each day, their risk of dying from cardiovascular disease increased by 13%. [5]
Processed red meat was even more strongly linked to dying from cardiovascular diseaseâand in smaller amounts: every additional 1.5 ounce serving of processed red meat consumed each day (equivalent to one hot dog or two strips of bacon) was linked to a 20% increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease death.
Cutting back on red meat could save lives: the researchers estimated that if all the men and women in the study had reduced their total red and processed red meat intake to less than half a serving a day, one in ten cardiovascular disease deaths would have been prevented.
⢠In another study of 43,000 men that looked at both amount and sources of protein found that intake of total protein was minimally associated with heart disease risk, but intake of protein from red meat was associated with higher risk. [7]
⢠In the Nurseâs Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, every additional serving per day of red meat or processed red meat was associated with a 10% and 16% higher risk of cancer death, respectively. [5]
⢠In October 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO)âs International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that consumption of processed meat is âcarcinogenic to humans,â and that consumption of red meat is âprobably carcinogenic to humans.â [18] The IARC Working Group (comprised of 22 scientists from ten countries) reached these conclusions from an evaluation of over 800 studies.
Conclusions were primarily based on the evidence for colorectal cancer. Data also showed positive associations between processed meat consumption and stomach cancer, and between red meat consumption and pancreatic and prostate cancer.
⢠A 2014 study also found a link between high consumption of red meat during adolescence and premenopausal breast cancer, while higher intakes of poultry, nuts, and legumes were associated with lower risk. Using data on the health of 89,000 women (aged 24 to 43) followed over a 20-year period, researchers found a 22% higher risk of breast cancer in those who ate 1.5 servings of red meat per day while in high school, compared to those who only had one serving per week. Each additional daily serving of red meat seemed to increase the risk of breast cancer by another 13%. [19]
⢠A 2011 study found that people who ate diets high in red meat, especially processed red meat, had a higher risk of type 2 diabetes than those who rarely ate red or processed meat. [12] For each additional serving a day of red meat or processed red meat that study participants ate, their risk of diabetes rose 12% and 32%, respectively. Investigators also found that replacing a serving of red meat with one serving of nuts, low-fat dairy products, or whole grains each day was associated with an estimated 16% to 35% lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
⢠A related study also found that people who started eating more red meat than usual were had a 50% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes during the next four years, and researchers also found that those who reduced red meat consumption had a 14% lower risk of type 2 diabetes over a 10-year follow-up period. 2023.05.30 19:54 Coolgirl-bornIn1800 I'm 95 episodes into Yu Yu Hakusho! Lets review Chapter Black! [No Spoilers For Future Material please!]
Yo! I made a post reviewing the Dark Tournament and everything before it
here, so lets talk about Chapter Black! Feel free to skip any sections you're not interested in! The first section is about Yu Yu's power systems! Also, this should be clear, but everything in episode 95 and before will be spoiled here.
By the way, why did nobody tell me this arc was so long?! I somewhat joke, but this has ended up perhaps longer than my post on the Dark Tournament. www
YU YU HAKUSHO'S POWER SYSTEM PROBLEM(And how Togashi solved it!)
So, for the arcs before this one, the power system of Ki has been somewhat frustrating. It didn't ever make me go "bleugh, i hate this power system!", that'd be silly, alot of great moments come from both Yoki and Reiki users. However, I do feel they held the story back in some ways! Soft power systems are.. not my faves. Seemingly, you can do virtually anything with the cost of aura. Training methods are never really defined, and when mentioned, they're 'mentioned' at most. Abilities of Ki users have no specific limitations except when thrown on with sudden explanation.
So, I love Territories! We're introduced to them with the three schoolboys, Kido, Kaito and Yanagisawa.. in order, they're the users of Shadow, Taboo and Copy! I love Kido and Kaito, though Yana didn't really get much focus in the story so I have no particular interesting in him outside of hairstyle and ability! Kido and Kaito on the other hands are fun, charismatic characters with awesome Territories! Kido is voiced by DIO, so that's another plus.
Kido's Territory is simple. His Territory is shadows. He can control his own shadow's movements, and if he steps on your shadow, you've entered his Territory, freezing your body in place. This is just fucking cool.
Yana's Copy Territory is cool, but not really notable. It was neat and was used well, it's just very limited. Though, in the final battle, I don't really see why he didn't copy Yusuke or Hiei; easily their strongest party members, and help out. Plot hole? maybe. Narrative convenience? certainly.
Kaito's is probably my fave Territory in the entirety of Chapter Black. Taboo makes a certain radius around him his Territory, inwhich violence is impossible! He sets the Taboo word, and if either he or anyone inside his Territory speak the Taboo, they lose their soul! Generally speaking, this was probably my one of my fave fights in all of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Strategic, skill-based, not about raw numbers.. A fight of intellect. Rad as fuck. Though, It really did sadden me that it was never used more than once! I'd love to see more Taboo battles. It's unfortunate Kaito never got to fight again. Theoretically he could defeat Sensui himself! I don't get why they didn't send him in in the final battle. I get it's total protagonist syndrome, where only the protags are allowed to fight the final boss, but c'mon. That only makes sense from a meta-perspective! In-universe, there's really no excuse. atleast we got several instances of good use out of Copy, but not using Taboo more than once? It's sad.
So, now that we've got through the first Territories we've met, what does this teach us? 1. there's always a bigger fish. Just because Yusuke is the strongest man on earth, doesn't mean he can't be defeated. After an antagonist like Toguro younger, it's hard to imagine who Yusuke could fight next. This is a genius way of implementing it. Raw power is no longer the way. 2. humans can now fight without any prior experience, as that hole opening is causing humans to gain Territorys. This is great for introducing new antagonists and supporting cast members. 3. Territories don't give the user raw stats! Users of Reiki and Yoki have their raw stats (ATK, DEF, AGI, MP, HP, ETC) increase the stronger they get. This is bad for a long narrative, as your characters will keep rising to new limits, making it harder to add stakes to a conflict, or add in new, strong, amazing guys.
This is the very reason that Togashi's next battle shounen manga had a power system that, while similar to Ki, has additional classes, rules, regulations and systems to it, because he learned from this narrative mistake. With Territorys, a user has only as much ATK, DEF, AGI or HP as an average person, with no MP to speak of. Any Territory user could just die from a brick to the head, or being punched too hard that their skull hits the ground and splits, like a normal person. This ups the stakes of the battle, by equalising the forces. Their ability and intellect are their strongpoint, not raw numbers. after like 40 episodes of raw stat-based combat, this was an AMAZING narrative choice.
This is further seen with a boxer named Murota. His wiretap allows him to read the mind of anyone who enters his Territory. So simple, yet so good for a narrative. All the storytelling involving Murota's Wiretap are great, and his easy defeat when it comes to Yusuke coming in didn't even take away from his ability being interesting. Sorry buddy, for a Boxer, you didn't get a offensive ability at all.
This is all of the introductory Territory, so i'll leave this section here. The other Territories and my thoughts on them will be covered along with their connected character. Though, I will leave you with one thought.. Togashi, All the women in your narrative are virtually identical visually speaking, get barely anything to do, and Genkai, the only one with a character arc and her own great story gets it reversed by the end of the Dark Tournament Arc..
atleast give us a W by giving Keiko a Territory! this way, the LEADING WOMAN of your story could join in the plot without ANY training required.. Like come on, what the hell. All women seem to do in Yu Yu Hakusho is act as someone to project and care for by their man. It's kinda gross. Atleast we have Genkai, but come on..
CHAPTER BLACK & YOKAI CLASSES!
Soon after the initial plothook, we learn we were tricked into thinking these guys were the plot! Gotta love Genkai lol. I love that she continues to teach Yusuke in such a way. Moving on, though, ignoring Sensui and the gang for now, Chapter Black! a GREAT concept! Is it a bit on the nose? Yes, of course. But we must remember Yu Yu Hakusho is aimed at young children, so we can forgive this, since it's really well written anyway!
Togashi would go on to perfect his writing about this theme in Hunter x Hunter, but that doesn't mean it's not amazingly done here! It makes perfect sense that Chapter Black would exist, and doesn't seem contrived, there's nothing negative I can really say about it. How it effected those who saw it tells enough, so I don't have to tell you about it!
So, before the introduction of Chapter Black, the tape itself, we learn about another thing that definitely existed this whole time! (I'm just being sassy, nothing wrong with introducing new concepts.) Yokai classes! At the beginning of the anime, Kurama and Hiei were lowly D-listers at the beginning of the anime, so their rise to power is quite unexpected, now being B-listers! By the end of the arc, they both reach A class! Good for them good for them.
The revelation that Toguro younger was only a B class is great. Really gave me a "Oh my god!" moment. The class system is very much serving the same purpose as scouters, to make us go "woah!" at how strong an enemy is to impress us, and to impress us even further when our Yokai protagonists, Hiei, Kurama, and later Yusuke are when they reach a higher level! It's simple but effective. Though, later, in my own opinion, this will have negative repercussions on the plot. But we'll get there at the end of this post. For now, they're good in my book! You'll see why my thoughts change later, and why I think they were a mistake in the long-run.
Also, a smaller note, some interesting foreshadowing. At the end of the arc, Shinobu notes that Kurama, as Yoko Kurama, was once an A class Yokai.. but he also mentions that Hiei used to be A class aswell?! Obviously, this is going to be expanded upon later. I'm interested to see why he dropped to D later!
INTRODUCTION OF BLACK ANGEL & SNIPER! THE FIGHT WITH DOCTOR..
Okay, now we're back to Territories and the plot! Sorry, we were stuck in the 'mechanics' zone for a while, weren't we?! So! First, we meet Sensui himself. Later, we learn this is one of his alters, Minoru. Ominously, he stares at Yusuke and the gang, and has Sniper shoot an eraser to intimidate, and lure them into a trap at the hospital! From this, we can already tell he's intelligent.
Here, he expected Yusuke to follow him so he could dispose of Yusuke, but Yusuke kept surprisingly cool thanks to Genkai's preparation she put them through. It's kinda fucking crazy to imagine that Yusuke, if he followed Sensui, he would of been quickly killed by Minoru and Sniper. Doctor would then of disposed of the users of Shadow, Copy and Wiretap. Can you imagine how the plot would of gone from here if Yusuke made this singular choice?! I love when a story has so many single choices that could change EVERYTHING. it's really entertaining to think about.
So, Wiretap's user gets taken to the hospital, but they learn that Doctor is about! Doctor Kamiya is a fun character, simple but effective, I really like him. So far, Yusuke has murdered countless evil Yokai, but to kill an evil Human? It's very different. In the end, Yusuke does kill Doctor, but Genkai revives him by restarting his heart, saying that Yusuke needs not the death of a man on his conscious. I really like this moment.
The entire fight was super entertaining and everyone got something to do! ..Well, except Keiko. Togashi, why'd you make her go there?! C'mon man.. This is probably one of the best fights in Yu Yu Hakusho. I love that Kido and Wiretap and Copy's users do alot to aid Yusuke in this fight! It really feels like a group effort.
On the Territory front, Doctor Kamiya's is cool! Generally speaking, doctor powers are always super cool. A Reiki scalpel, creating diseases with his mind, perfect surgery skill.. his Territory being the diameter of a Hospital, it's so fun. It's a cool limitation too, all these abilities, but he can only use them inside of a Hospital setting. Territories allow for such awesome limitations.
SEAMAN, KUWABARA'S AWAKENING! KOENMA'S MORALITY..
Seaman! It's a great conflict, not much else to say! Mitarai is a great character, and his Territory is cool! Really, I already talked about Mitarai through subtext in the 'Chapter Black & Yokai Classes!' section. Though I will say, UNLIKE WITH KEIKO, using this opportunity to unlock a new power for a HUMAN we've known for a long time, Kuwabara, is really clever! Him being the one who can cut open the field is the LAST THING I expected, it's great.
Though, this introduction of Seaman; Mitarai, will come back as a negative later! the Chapter Black arc introduces alot of great concepts and characters early on, but suffers for it in the late game is something I notice. Much like Yokai Classes that I mentioned earlier, this is something you'll wanna 'bookmark' in your mind, as later on I will explain my problems with Mitarai's usage later in the story! Just know that for now, I think his story position is great, aswell as his character itself. This poor kid was used by Sensui who held Chapter Black as the reason why Mitarai should join him in hating humanity.
So, around here is where we learn about Shinobu's past. So, throughout the early story, I didn't like Koenma much. I didn't DISLIKE him or anything.. he was just kinda a joke character in a serious role, which isn't a bad thing. But here, they really flesh him out.
Now, at the beginning of the story, Koenma uses Yusuke, a boy with an inferiority complex who's had fighting as the only thing he's good at, as a child soldier, sending him to what is basically war. Koenma even out-loud admits in the Chapter Black arc that he chose Yusuke because unlike Shinobu, he's not an independent thinker. Essentially, he's easy to use, with the idea being grooming him into the perfect child soldier for Spirit Realm's desires.
We the audience realize this is bad from the beginning of the story, and we all knew that Koenma was a bad person, but them saying out loud was rather surprising! Alot of battle shounen try to sneak this under the rug, like Naruto and My Hero Academia. Admitting that the morality of the adults in your story is corrupt for sending children to murder others and endanger themselves? Pretty ballsy!
and hey, Yusuke has murdered tons of Yokai up to this point, all of which deserved to die, but making a child do this is the immoral part. Something I enjoy about Yu Yu Hakusho is that all our characters can be rather grey at times. This is something Togashi perfects later in Hunter x Hunter. But for now, we have characters of questionable morality like Hiei and Kurama in our supporting cast.
Yusuke hasn't done anything immoral, but he's murdered plenty of people without remorse, and threatened to do as such to those he doesn't like by the end of the arc (the forces that King Enma sounds down at the end of the arc). Kuwabara is the only one who's truly morally clean when you think about it. Though, by the end of the arc, even he makes an immoral choice, which is fun. None of our protagonists are morally perfect, and I think that's great.
SHINOBU'S PAST!
To note, I will be talking about Sensui's Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID here. While we didn't learn about it at this point in the part, it seems like the most logical place to talk about it since it originates from his past, like anyone with DID. I do not have DID myself, so I cannot say if this is a good or bad representation of it. However, I can say that from what I know, it's very well researched. If anyone with DID has thoughts on this representation, I'd love to hear them.)
So, Shinobu, a human born with incredible Reiki. Probably equivalent to a low B-class Yokai in his youth. For reasons unknown to him, Yokai saw his incredible Reiki and targeted him. Why did these mysterious creatures that only he could see aim to kill him? He didn't know. Being a child, naturally, he comes to the conclusion. "I didn't do anything to them, and they're trying to kill me. Yokai are evil, Humans are the good guys."
Eventually, Koenma sees this kid, and is like "it's free real-estate.", choosing to use this kid for his own gain, grooming him into a child soldier and putting him into far more dangerous situations than he would of entered otherwise. As you know, Shinobu Sensui enters a young Black Black Club and witnesses humans being far worse than any Yokai he's ever seen. This sight likely tortures him for the rest of his life in his dreams, so that's fun.
This young man, filled with justice, decides he was completely wrong, and 180's his perspective. Yokai are free and honest creatures. Humans are the evil ones. This awful past, and this traumatic moment in his life, are what form his modern perspective, formed the alters in his system to cope with the trauma, and inspired him to steal Chapter Black and go into hiding for 10 years soon later.
Surprisingly, Sensui Shinobu does not develop one evil personality who controls the 'real Shinobu', like the old trope goes. Togashi here shows a fairly realistic depiction of DID, with alters of different age, gender and personality.
Considering we later learn about Itsuki, the gay man who loves Sensui, and both this and DID are treated really well, it really makes you wonder why the women in Yu Yu Hakusho are treated so badly when mental illnesses and homosexuality are treated with respect, lol. You were so close Togashi! now if only you treated Transgender people and women better.. well, he learns to treat both these groups better in his later works, so I can't really complain. I forgive you, old man. We'll speak about each of Sensui's identities later when they're introduced!
YUSUKE VS SENSUI! DEATH IN YU YU HAKUSHO..
Sniper fires a 'bullet', attempting to kill Mitarai! Yusuke runs down and fights Sensui way earlier than i'm sure any of us expected! Minoru and Yusuke's fight is one to behold, his leg-based fighting style is rad! Though, it's quite unfortunate that I don't have much to say about this brilliant exchange? I suppose with fighting, being such a visual thing, it's hard to talk about it. But what ends up happening as you're aware is that Black Angel, Gourmet and Gamemaster kidnap Kuwabara, the only one who can cut up that field; the barrier! We get a rad chase scene where Yusuke, with his super physicality thanks to his incredible Reiki, chases them down on a bike despite them driving a car!
This entire sequence is great. By the way, so far, Kurama hasn't done much this arc, and nor has Genkai. really makes you wonder why either of them didn't die in the Dark Tournament arc. Sorry to bring this up, but I just really don't like fake character deaths! Atleast Kuwabara's new Territory is a major plot-thread.. Kurama saved Keiko and Kuwabara elder, who shouldn't of been there in the first place and defeated Kaito's Taboo.
Genkai set up the boys to kidnap Yusuke and fight the gang, and that's it. I love what they did in this arc so far, but it's so little to justify such impactful moments. Kurama, fine, I can accept it. His sacrifice was impactful, but it didn't really matter, but Genkai.. she's such a good character, reviving her like this really makes me go "wow, so nobody can die except the antagonist, huh.". You don't want the audience to see through the wall like that..
YUSUKE VS SNIPER!
At this point, every fight in the arc has been amazing. I can't help but think Togashi has perfected combat. Hagiri's Territory is truly masterful, his Territory is a certain range from his body. From this range, he can place several bullseyes on his target's body. Any object he makes physical contact with will chase his target until it hits one of these bullseyes! What I'm saying is this Territory is awesome, and the fight is amazing. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, when it comes to a fight there's not much to talk about, haha. I loved it though! At this point it feels like every new fight is 'the best fight in Yu Yu Hakusho'!
Something I love is that this guy isn't even Sensui, but he almost killed Yusuke! He would of, if our lovely tsundere Hiei wasn't about! After defeating Sniper in one hit, Hiei gives Yusuke a figurative handjob and releases Yusuke's tension! Yusuke and Hiei strike a deal with a fun climax in the epilogue of this arc, and team up!
Finally, the gang all meet up, and enter the cave! The final dungeon! Genkai decides that it's best to send in a limited number of people. If they all enter at once, then if the first wave dies, the second wave has a chance! Well, I already voiced my my complaints about this choice, so whatever. I'm just glad Mitarai gets to go in! He has to resolve his character arc, afterall.
GAMEMASTER, GOURMET, AND MINORU..
The actual games weren't very interesting to watch, but I enjoyed Mitarai's development, aswell as Kaito getting frigging screen-time! The way Gamemaster is defeated is really sad, I like it alot. It really tore Kurama up to kill this child. Love it. Seeing how Sensui manipulated this poor little boy is crazy.
After the defeat of Gamemaster, we get to Gourmet! blah blah he wasn't defeated. I don't really like Kurama's fights, to be honest. He just kinda pulls something out of nowhere. It's like he can do anything at all but only once.
So, Gamemaster and Gourmet were kinda dips in quality.. but soon we're back to the stuff I like! Now, logic dictates that if only Sensui and Itsuki are left, we're either going to have a 2 V 4, or Itsuki has to be defeated first before the gang can fight Sensui together.
Logic also dictates that now that Kurama has had his moment to shine, defeating both Gamemaster and Gourmet, it's time for Hiei, who has been absent the whole arc, and Mitarai, who's character arc revolves around being free from Sensui's manipulative grasp, to fight!.. but logic has nothing to do with it! Itsuki has tamed a Yokai of sorts, and kidnaps the gang! So, Hiei, Kurama and Mitarai are reduced to reaction youtubers. Atleast Itsuki is an interesting character, his feelings for Sensui are really sweet.
So, the fight between Yusuke and Minoru begins! I love the twist on classic battle shounen conventions where Yusuke in ATK, DEF and AGI is stronger than Minoru. Minoru has superior skill and MP and HP, but that's about it! Essentially, if Kurama is a White Mage, and Hiei is a Red Mage, then Kuwabara is the Warrior. Meanwhile, Yusuke and Minoru are a strange hybrid class, a Black Monk; a Monk who has access to Black Magic. Yusuke is overwhelmed by projectiles, but eventually realizes that he'd lose the war of attrition, so he goes on the offense! the damage isn't too much, so he just takes it and punches the hell out of Minoru! Frankly, the charismatic, philosophical and manipulative Minoru is my fave of Sensui's System. But we're soon introduced to Kazuya!
YUSUKE VS KAZUYA
I love Kazuya! His personality is very outward, and he's vulgar! A great opposite to Minoru, who's not very straight-forward at all. I don't really get if his gun arm is made from his Reiki or a prosthetic. If it's a prosthetic, where did his hand go..? But well, it's a cool weapon, so I can forgive it. Later when Shinobu shows up he asks Itsuki for a spare hand, so I guess it's a prosthetic? It doesn't really matter, but it peeves me slightly lol.
Kazuya loves murder and torture, and gradually shoots the hell out of Yusuke! I love this guy. Suddenly, Koenma appears! He wants to take responsibility for his awful actions?! I LOVE this for Koenma's character. Instead of a character with a black presence throughout the story, his presence has become a grey! He's regretful of what he's done, and I appreciate that. Through this arc, it feels like Koenma and Yusuke form a friendship, so that's nice. poor Jorge tho, totally neglected lmao. But while I like Jorge, he doesn't really matter.
So, Yusuke had time to recover thanks to Kazuya and Koema's conversation (the conversation was great, by the way.) and swipes the Mafuukan from Koenma! This is in-character for the low-self esteemed boy, so yeah. Yusuke beats the shit out of Kazuya, which is fun, and Shinobu appears!
VS SHINOBU
Shinobu shows up, puts on a shirt, and reveals he has.. Sacred Energy; Seikoki. Now, I'm sure in the last arc this will be expanded upon, but this for now has no info that we know about it, except that not even Genkai could turn her Reiki into it. We learn that Shinobu's Seikoki is SO strong.. that he's equivalent to an S class Yokai. Bro. TOGASHI. this is WHY you introduced Territories, so this wouldn't happen!! come on man.. so guess what, he kills Yusuke?
Listen, it starts cool okay, like, this is looking back in hindsight. At first it was "OH MY GOD HE'S SO STRONG" and "HE BROKE YUSUKE'S ARM WITH A TOUCH". it was really cool! but narratively, this was clearly a mistake. here's the thing.. Sensui is a great character. he definitely could of came back later. hell, while we know the names and personalities of all his alters, we haven't even met them yet! We've only met three! He's such a complex character, but from here, everything in the climax feels cramped.
So, Yusuke dies, this awakens Kuwabara's Territory fully, and he cuts out of Itsuki's dimension. Kurama is so enraged that his body enters the Yoko form by itself, without his mind reverting. Hiei's power goes up to A Class on principle. This is cool, but here's the thing. We *all* know they can't win. Togashi has introduced power levels. Kinda crazy isn't it? Togashi introduced Power Levels (Spirit Class) from Dragon Ball AND Stands (Territory) from JoJo in the same arc! Territories are great because fighters can come from anywhere and don't rely on being powerful to win. Spirit Classes suck because they relegate power to 'my number (or in this case, letter) is higher, so I win.'
Kuwabara and two A-Class Yokai.. they can't win against a single S class. On the bright side, good character moment coming up! When Shinobu gets behind the barrier, Kuwabara without even holding back, knowing he's going to die and so are all humans anyway, cuts through it, letting swarms of Yokai soon kill all humans! This makes sense for Kuwabara, since he knows they're all doomed anyway. Hiei and Kurama don't try to stop him, none of them regret this choice, they want to die by Shinobu's hand, fighting to the death. That's their choice. They fight on into the Demon Realm and face certain death..!
A DEMONKIN AWAKENS..
So, we learn here, while Hiei, Kurama and Kuwabara fight Shinobu, Yusuke is reviving! His descendent was an S-class Yokai! The Yokai traits skipped about a hundred generations, and Yusuke inherited this gene! I think this is actually.. pretty great! It only makes sense, right? in the prior arc, Toguro had his life ruined my Yokai, so he became one. Toguro hates Yokai.
in this arc, Sensui saw humanity being totally evil, so he took the Yokai's side. In the end, he, the human, fighting for the Yokai, fights Yusuke, who becomes a Yokai to stop Sensui, the human. Thematically, this is the best way this could end, Yokai vs Human. Even if this stuff with Yusuke and Shinobu being S-Class sucks, but it is what it is, i love that Yusuke is a Yokai. Though, poor Kuwabara, he and Keiko are the only human characters that matter left lol.
Pheonix Puu looks soo fucking cool btw, love that design. I love that Yusuke has spikey teeth now, that's fun. so, Yusuke and Shinobu fight, and I realize.. Shinobu is the least interesting of Sensui's system? He's overpowered, kills random Yokai in the Demon Realm while fighting Yusuke.. does he even care about his own goal? It's weird man.
well, on the bright side of this shitty Dragon Ball fight, Yusuke's Yokai form he enters looks super cool! Great design, love it. so, Yusuke does his Goku thing that he's started doing since the Dark Tournament Chu fight and is unsatisfied with beating Sensui while not using his own power. Whatever. Itsuki explains that Sensui is sick for some reason. This was not well foreshadowed, but he had cancer or whatever. Koenma brang Gamemaster back to life, so that uh. good job removing a great moment of the arc from the continuity, Togashi. It's really true that only antagonists can die in Yu Yu Hakusho, huh!?
I like that Shinobu wanted to open the hole to the Demon Realm because he wanted to die there, though. A great repentance for his transgressions against Yokai-kind, and this being delivered to him by the strongest Yokai we've seen so far, Yusuke Uremeshi, is great. Itsuki takes away Sensui's corpse forever into the darkness, which is sweet.
So, the epilogue! i loved EVERYTHING about it. everyone's paths they took were great. I love Doctor and Sniper's especially! If I have one pet-peeve, it's that they cut Yusuke's hair, it looks so coool, imagine him with the school uniform on with the long hair and scary tattoos?! it'd look rad. come on, uremeshiiii--
thank you for reading! sorry it's so long! :P big arc lol.

2023.05.29 15:31 Gumbybum Lore Discovery Part 3/3: Fishbones, Flatwoods, and Colonel's Burning Secret
Disclaimer: This post is long, so you may want to save it and read it later. Also, I put a lot of time into both researching this and writing it up. So if all you have is negative feedback, kindly keep it to yourself. Finally, thereâs a lot more that Iâve been looking into beyond the scope of this write-up. If youâd like to join my exp-LORE-ation efforts, please let me know.
Recap: Part 1 establishes that Colonel is the same kid who was playing with his âbaer frendsâ at the Palace of the Winding Path. Part 2 establishes that Darius Angler was the author of the 4 Untitled Poems.
Edit: Hyperlinks don't seem to be working so I'm manually pasting my references to parts 1 and 2.
https://www.reddit.com/fo76/comments/1327e9a/lore_discovery_responder_colonel_flatwoods_was/ https://www.reddit.com/fo76/comments/135xf3y/lore_discovery_part_2_responder_colonels_postwa TLDR (mad spoilers up in here):
Fishbones led the raid that killed Colonel and all the Responders in Flatwoods, and he could very well be Darius Anglerâs brother. Colonel may have been up to something nefarious with the children of Flatwoods (but not in that way). Ra Ra might be Wardâs granddaughter. And it looks like mole rat teeth are used to craft Day Tripper.
We Begin at the End: November 2096. 13 Bridge Street, Flatwoods, WV. Responder Colonel died in the raider attack on Flatwoods, along with just about every other Responder that resided there. The raiders attacked because a Chem Addict stole all their food and chems and fled to Flatwoods. You can find her body and holotape just West of the river. But before we get to that, we need to look at what Colonel was up to before he died. Most people probably overlooked this detail because they havenât explored Flatwoods since they were level 3, and at that point they didnât have a jetpack or the Marsupial mutation. But Colonelâs front AND back porches are completely railed off. If you make it over the front railing, youâll find the corpses of Colonel and (likely) the raider that killed him, Colonelâs second âSurvivor Story,â and a stroller with an intact doll in it. Colonel was the âcaregiver for childrenâ in Flatwoods, so the stroller may have once been for an actual baby.
But on the back porch, Colonel was burning books, files, documents, and the contents of a mysterious duffel back on his grill. Colonel definitely had a secret and he was literally trying to burn the evidence. And that secret was his past with the Diehards and Darius Angler. If you follow the road West out of Flatwoods, youâll eventually arrive at Hillfolk Hotdogs, which is the site of Untitled Poem #3 and the former home of Colonel when he lived with Angler as a child (you can find one of his âbaer frendsâ on the kid-sized bunk bed). But inside the bus(?) at Hillfolkâs, youâll also find similar documents and a duffel bag, just like the kind Colonel was burning in Flatwoods when he died. As a matter of fact, there are other similarly suspicious duffel bags and file caches along the Ohio River. And this takes us to Ohio River Adventures.
Fishbones is a Dirty Rat Bastard: In the exact same way that the Diehards returned to Crater, a former territory of theirs (and site of Untitled Poem #2), the Diehards also returned to Ohio River Adventures. Now, O.R.A. gets overlooked because there is no main quest line that keeps you returning to this area (maybe the grind for Raider Rep), but this place is former Diehard territory too. Now, it is critically important to know that both Fishbones (Bones) and Blackeye are O.G. Diehards. Blackeye was almost certainly Colonelâs 1st grade teacher back at the Palace of the Winding Path. But what about Bones? Well, my friends, I bet Iâm about to tell you something you didnât already know:
When Margie McClintock died in 2096 (as inferred what Rose tells us during the main quest), Meg Groberg took over and soon thereafter led the Diehards out of Appalachia before returning years later (that, you already knew). You probably also already knew that before Margie died, Meg and the other Diehards went against protocol and âshot firstâ when robbing people. Meg was a true raider in all the ways that Margie was not. But what you probably didnât put together is that Margie died around the time that Flatwoods was attacked. According to the Chem Addict from Flatwoods:
âChems Addict: Well, this is it I guess. Rock bottom I think they call it. I still miss him. Billy. I knew he was too young for me, but he made me feel good. Though it's the old Billy I really miss. The one who used to do nothing all day with me but listen to the radio and drink. I shoulda got out sooner when Billy and his buddies started torturing little cats and dogs. His friends... were no good. But that didn't stop me anyway. I can't believe my wake up call was watching people's heads... get stuck on spikes. So... what is an old gal like me to do? Steal all the food. Steal all the chems. And get the hell out of there. *laughs* I'd trade my last bite of food just to see the look on their faces. Oh, I know it's going to piss off Billy's friends, but I don't give a damn. I tell myself I should feel sorry for the little town across the river. But if I'm being honest, and that's what this tape is for, I don't really care. I call myself an addict, but it ain't the chems that finally got me. It was always Billy.â
I want to emphasize the âheads on spikesâ part, because thatâs something Margie would never tolerate. But Meg on the other hand let raiders be raiders. The other thing that I want to point out is âBilly.â Iâm not saying for certain that this Billy is the same as Darius Anglerâs brother, but I am saying that technically no body was ever recovered from the molten steel, and Angler didnât see the accident happen because he didnât work at Grafton Steel anymore. Itâs possible that âBilly Angler,â who didnât quit because âhe needs the money,â could have taken out some kind of insurance policy, named his chem addict girlfriend as the beneficiary, faked his own death, and skipped town. Do I know for certain that this happened? Of course not. But what I do know is this: FISHBONESâS REAL NAME IS BILLY!!! The reason heâs obsessed with the letter B is because thatâs his first initial. You see, at first I thought the raiders that wrecked Flatwoods were Cutthroats because of their whole feud with the Responders. But then I learned that the Flatwoods attack was caused by a bunch of chems that the Addict stole, and the Diehards were Appalachiaâs great chems supplier (thanks to Angler). Furthermore, Fishbonesâs current operation is spiking Mirelurk meat with an addictive substance (chems). And since Bones is an OG Diehard, it means he was the piece-of-shit raider that attacked Flatwoods and killed Colonel.
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fishbones A Bit About Bruiser: I found a few interesting details about Bruiser at Ohio River Adventures, but nothing too profound. We know that he used to play football, his mascot was a âbattle bear,â and that he spent some time in a vault. The likeliest conclusion from this information is that heâs from Grafton, given thatâs the only high school in the region with a football field and itâs next to the makeshift vault that formerly housed a few raiders before the BOS took over. If you look up the IRL Grafton High School, youâll find that itâs on Yates Ave (likely the namesake of Sofie Yates, a Responder turned Raider in Flatwoods) and their mascot is the âBearcat.â Also, all the varsity jackets in FO76 have the letter B on them, but thatâs more Fishbonesâs thing. But none of this has anything to do with Colonel or Angler, so letâs move on.
The Charleston Cartel (2079-2082): From the Charleston Capitol Building terminal entries, we know there was a massive chem trade happening in Charleston at this time:
âName: Matoukas, George
Date of Crime: 10.09.81
Description:
300 Block of Oak. Based on anonymous tip, Responder Atkins found subject peddling vast amounts of illegal chems out of his home. Over 300lbs of illegal chems found in the subject's basement.
Resolution:
Matoukas sentenced to 5 years hard labor under close supervision, with possibility of parole for good behavior. Chems were seized and destroyed.â
Since the Diehardsâ operation at the Palace of the Winding Path effectively ended with the great rapture of â79, it only makes sense that the Diehards would have to adapt their drug trade elsewhere. If you actually look for raider activity in Charleston (outside of the courthouse), you wonât find a lot, but what you will find is very telling of their operations. Youâll find a dead raider at the chemistry workbench inside Hornwright Industrial Headquarters. Youâll find a few dead raiders in/above the pharmacy on the south side of town. And youâll find a dead raider lurking outside the doctorsâ offices (which is NOT the hospital) to the north. And this takes us to Dr. Joseph.
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Joseph_(Fallout_76))
Dr. Joseph was a psychiatrist in Charleston who practiced both before AND after the Great War. He had the authority to refer patients to Allegheny Asylum and write prescriptions; Prescriptions that would be filled at the pharmacy on the south side of Charleston. To one patient, P. Davis, he prescribed Day Tripper. This insightful detail is why the Diehards were operating in Charleston in the first place. As many seasoned players have observed, Day Tripper is not craftable in this game; You can only find it out in the wild. Consider the following terminal entry from the Palace of the Winding Path:
âLog: 12.29.77 Since the war, incense ingredients have been hard to come by. We started rationing weeks ago, in anticipation of this, and doses are much lower. The sedative effects of the incense are a priority, to keep people from freaking out.
I've begun to improvise with some other ingredients and found some creative ways of stretching the supply, at least until things return to relative normal. Other chem supplies are plentiful.â
So hereâs what I think happened. If the Diehards were in dire need of Day Tripper to make their custom chems (see: Making Incense), and the Responders had a healthy supply of Day Tripper locked inside a pharmacy in Charleston, and there was also a doctor who wrote prescriptions for Day Tripper, then all the Diehards needed to do was register a new patient with Dr. Joseph. Enter: Darius Angler.
Darius Angler was batshit crazy (if in doubt, refer to his manifesto). Angler, who now resided at Hillfolk Hotdogs, was also just a short trip up the New River from Charleston. He would periodically visit Dr. Joseph, get his prescription filled like a meth-head scoring Sudafed, and used the trip as a cover to smuggle the refined chems into the city. Essentially, I think he just made a loop around the southwest âislandâ of the Forest (area surrounded on all sides by 3 rivers, referred to as âZone Dâ). The loop around Zone D functioned as a supply chain/assembly line for producing the chems that were being smuggled into Charleston. Thereâs a lot of suspicious stuff happening around here: Raider activity, duffel bags/files, bridge control, coffin conspiracies, etc. that I had to edit out for length, but Iâll try to summarize it here.
Hillfolk Hotdogs is where Angler and Colonel raised mole rats for reasons Iâll explain later. Follow the Ohio River south and youâll soon come to a boat thatâs not far away from a crashed truck loaded up with industrial chemical barrels (useful for producing industrial quantities of chems). South of that is a tent with a duffel bag. Further south youâll find a 3-story house with suspicious files and a duffle bag hidden in the attic (just like at Hillfolkâs). South of that are some dry-docked boats with a chem box and a duffel bag. Even further south is Ohio River Adventure (a current Raider base of operation that served a similar purpose back then). Southeast of there, by Lewis & Sons, is a little âboatâ with 2 stuffed bears, which I think was left behind by Colonel as he reenacted his river adventures with Angler using his bears. Southeast of there is a floating Nuka-Cola structure with a submerged safe guarded by 2 more bears, one of which has a liquor bottle. I think this is a dead drop and the bears are another work of Colonelâs. Heading East up the River youâll find a raider-operated âstoreâ at the end of a questionable bridge. Further east is Charleston, where George Matoukas was distributing the chems. And on the return trip down the New River is another dead drop directly beneath the Bridge on the west side. Itâs a safe by a couch with a bear and Jangles (I think Jangles is supposed to represent George). Again, I think that this big loop is a supply chain/assembly line for moving chems and the components needed to make chems.
The smuggling operation also deviously involved Colonel and his âBaer Frends.â If you jetpack up to the very top of AVR Medical Center, youâll find two people who ODâed on chems, each with a stuffed bear next to them. So I think that either the Diehards were sewing chems inside Colonelâs stuffed bears and using them as drug mules to smuggle chems into Charleston, or that Colonel just climbed to the highest point on the hospital (as he did at the Palace and later in Flatwoods) and left two bears as a memorial. But Iâm leaning toward the former because of an unmarked location in the Savage Divide that I found. Itâs southeast of Bastion Park right at the bend of the monorail line. Itâs essentially a fire pit with a bunch of stuffed bears thrown in it with a few dead party-goers around the area. I think this is the location where the Responders destroyed all of the Chems, bears and all, that they confiscated from George Matoukas. Speaking of George MatoukasâŚ.
Curious George and the Rocket: According to the above-mentioned terminal entry, George Matoukas was apparently the only criminal who the Responders sentenced to hard labor rather than exile. If you go to Rollins Labor Camp (formerly Rollins Work Camp), you wonât find a whole lot there other than Blood Eagles. But what you WILL find at the very top of the crane structure are two stuffed bears and a Jangles. Colonel, as a child, had a thing for playing with âbaer frends in high places.â I canât say with any certainty what happened here, but maybe Angler was the one who gave the responders that âanonymous tipâ because Matoukas was starting to rub off on Colonel, and Angler didnât want him growing up to be a Raider. Matoukas gets sentenced to hard labor rather than exile, with a change of parole pending âgood behavior,â which means âsnitching.â So maybe Angler took Colonel to visit his âfriendâ at the labor camp (visiting hours are a thing), Angler introduced George to a ârocket,â and Colonel used his toys to recreate the scene. Or not. Who knows? But what I do know is that the shitty poet (Angler) moved on from Hillfolk Hotdogs to go to the Cranberry Bog, and I think the Christmas Flood gave him the perfect reason to leave.
Untitled Poem #3: Iâm intentionally skipping Untitled Poem #2, partly because I havenât found much deeper meaning to it, but mostly because what I think it means is little more than conjecture. #3, on the other hand, I feel like I can make sense of it:
âwhite cedar leaning against the shadow of our river
peeling like asylum walls
hobbled together around dignity that died long ago
simple things to jumpstart fogged memories
holed as teeth hidden in tin
we leave our things pinned
winning only the stuck wingsâ
I think the phrase âwhite cedar leaning against the shadow of our riverâ is the title of the painting in Dr. Josephâs office. Or at least thatâs how Darius Angler would describe it as if it was some kind of Rorschach test. âPeeling like asylum walls, hobbled together around dignity that died long agoâ is a reference to the office wallpaper, and perhaps another one of Dr. Josephâs clients, Daniel Boone.
âPatient: "Boone, D"
Observations:
Interesting case.
Patient responds only to "Daniel Boone" and indeed seems to believe himself to be the historical figure by the same name. I'd heard that some of the hillfolk can end up a bit off after lack of socialization, but I'd not expected to see such a case.
Advised that he be sent to Allegheny rather than the Penitentiary for further observation.â
Thereâs only a VERY narrow window of plausibility to suggest that Angler is Daniel Boone, so I wonât. But this entry seems to refer back to Untitled Poem #3, with worlds like âhillfolkâ (as in Hillfolk Hotdogs), âAlleghenyâ (as in asylum), and âthe historical figureâ (as in dignity that died long ago). I think the line âsimple things to jumpstart fogged memories'' refers to the Souvenir Magnet on the fridge at Hillfolk Hotdogs, and I think it came from Lady Janetâs Soft Serve (not Cow Spot Creamery). âHoled as teeth hidden in tinâ refers to the mole rats that he was raising with Colonel at Hillfolkâs (the cat bowl on the floor is for the mole rat that walks around the trailer like Fryâs dog from Futurama, just waiting for Colonel to come home). And âwe leave our things pinned, winning only the stuck wings,â refers to Anglerâs (and Colonelâs) escape from the Diehards. Iâm assuming this event took place just after the Christmas flood, once the chem operation in Charleston was destroyed with the rest of the city. But if you remember those dead raiders I mentioned earlier, there are a few more. Outside of Dr. Josephâs office is a dead raider next to an ammo box. Well, next to him is a makeshift bridge that goes over the highway. And if you keep going in the same direction once you step off the bridge youâll hit the southwest corner of Wade Airport. Immediately in that corner past the fence is a locked truck-trailer (watch out for the mine) with 2 more dead raiders and a power armor chassis (sometimes). I think the last line of the poem refers to this exact event, leaving his power armor (and compatriots) pinned in the back of the trailer so he can steal yet another Vertibird. Angler flew the automated aircraft to Watoga. Why? I donât know. But it explains how he got to the Cranberry Bog and why his body can be found just a short distance south of the city.
Untitled Poem #4: Just like #2, I donât have any deep insight into the specifics so all I can do is speculate. Iâll spare you the details. But what I think itâs about is the very end of his relationship with Colonel. I think the time Angler and Colonel spent together in the unmarked cabin southeast of Sunrise Field was just Angler teaching Colonel to be self-sufficient (hunting, trapping, maintaining weapons and whatnot). I think that when the scorched attacked Harperâs Ferry in 2086 that there was also generally increased scorched activity in the eastern half of Appalachia. The poem describes Angler providing cover fire to, or perhaps just drawing fire away from Colonel as escaped through Big Bend Tunnel, later to be found by the Responders. But again, like with #2, all I can do with this poem is speculate.
The Mysterious Mole Rats: This is a question Iâve had for almost 2 years now, and I think I finally figured it out. Back at the Palace of the Winding Path, thereâs a lonely mole rat that lives in the computer room by the garden. Thereâs also a dead mole rat next to a dead raider pilot by a downed plane that was headed to the Palace from the north. I didnât know what the Diehards needed mole rats for because I was only looking at the Palace itself. But the answer to this question is found at Lady Janetâs. Everyone thinks that the two bears in gas masks by the chemistry is just a Breaking Bad easter egg. But I think itâs yet another âbaer frendâ reenactment left behind by Colonel. Do you remember how the cultists at the Palace ran out of ingredients to make the âspiritual incenseâ and had to improvise? Well, one of the substitute ingredients they used, and the reason they were importing mole rats, and the reason the Diehards took care of the children like they did, is found in the baby carriage at Lady Janetâs.
A basket full of human jaw bones? YeahâŚ. Teeth. Or more precisely, âbaby teeth.â I suppose mole rat teeth would do in a pinch, but as messed up as it sounds human baby teeth were preferred. This is why the Diehards at the Palace were taking care of those first-graders; because six-year-olds shed baby teeth like itâs raining molars! This also answers a question you didnât even know you had, and it takes us back to Flatwoods. Hereâs a note written by Jeremiah Ward who lived in trailer in the town (and the Ransacked Bunker before that):
âI, Jeremiah Ward, resident in the town of Flatwoods, county of... not sure.
Being of sound mind, and not acting under... duress. Mostly.
Hereby declare this letter to be my last will and testament.
Mia gets the house, and everything in it.
It ain't much but that's all I got to give and... she's all I got.
I know she's still alive.
The Responders say the dogs got her, but I know it ain't true.
They been real good to us. Teaching an old geezer like me how to really cook is something. I'll give em that.
But I know they lyin about those dogs. I seen em in the hills. There's some bad folks scoping us out. They took my granddaughter, I just know it.
I'll get you back, Mia. I promise.â
Mia, a baby who slept in the crib in that trailer, was abducted by raiders. And the only raider gang that ever had any interest in kids was the Diehards. And when you remember that the Responders had a foster care program that would later be run by Colonel once he was older, youâll remember that a shit load of children went âmissingâ when Billy (Fishbones) attacked Flatwoods. And if teeth (baby, mole rat, or otherwise) was the secret ingredient in Anglerâs chem recipe⌠and Colonel was Anglerâs apprentice for a number of years before he joined the Responders⌠and Colonel was the caretaker of all of the children of Flatwoods⌠then exactly what was in those documents that Colonel was burning on his back porch?
Full Circle: So after everything, the Diehards lost their crop of children at the Palace of the Winding Path in 2079, but took the children of Flatwoods and left Appalachia. When they came back, they put Fishbones (Billy) in charge of the Ohio River Adventures operation, who is now spiking the mirelurk meat with a potent chem. Itâs totally possible that Ra Ra is actually Mia Ward (Jeremiah Wardâs granddaughter). Hell, itâs even possible that Jeremiah Ward is somehow Ward from Foundation. Since Colonel was obviously keeping, and subsequently burning, secrets, Iâd say he was also inclined to keep his raider past a secret as well as the truth about his adoptive father. Like he said in his Survivorâs Story, âhe was bad.â Perhaps the reason he kept his Diehard history a secret from the Dassa and the other Responders was because he knew that the Responders were the ones punishing and exiling people back in Charleston. But this whole story began the day Darius Angler decided to get revenge on Grafton Steel. And if his brother hadnât actually died after all, then it would explain why Angler stayed with the Diehards for as long as he did rather than returning to the Free states. Regardless, this entire story began and ended with Billy. âIt was always Billy.â

2023.05.15 22:42 Chama-Musk EARNINGS CALL TRANSCRIPT - PART 2
Bob Ginnan
No, I think at a truck contribution level, they are positive, but positive gross margin will be a factor of volume as we start to cover the fixed cost. So no, that will not be the case in 2Q.
A - Rick Dauch
Yeah. This company has a history of designing some pretty unique trucks and selling them for about half of what they put into them. So we put an EDIC out and we got here. Say we're going to design, test and build trucks that we can make money. We're a publicly traded company. Got to have a path towards our profitability. This designing, building and selling cool trucks at a loss puts you out of business long term, so.
Jeff Osborne
Is there an annualized run rate that you would hit that or units delivered of the 750? I assume that the 4 CC wouldn't get you there. But should that be something to think about in the spring of â24?
Rick Dauch
Yeah, we really haven't put together any guidance on that, but I will say that overall our fixed costs on the manufacturing side are relatively low. So with a fair amount of volume, we should be able to get to that positive gross margin.
Jeff Osborne
I think one of the things Jeff, we talked about in a couple of calls is that we're early, still in the very early inning of this ICE to EV transition. There's still some price elasticity, which is a good thing for those of us who are out in the cutting edge, right. And so I'm sure we'll all have to ramp down costs in the future, specifically on batteries.
But for now, the market demand, based on the California mandates alone of 9% of the fleets, when they buy trucks next year, 9% of the buys have to be EV, that's one out of every ten almost, right, so. We sat with one big dealer last week and said, âhey, in order for me to sell these big ice trucks, I got to sell some EV trucks now, too.â That's real bite in the regulatory laws out there in the clean fleet, the Advanced Clean Fleet, so.
Jeff Osborne
Absolutely! That's all I had. Thank you, I appreciate it.
A - Rick Dauch
Great.
Operator
Thank you. Our next questions come from the line of Chris Souther with B. Riley. Please proceed with your questions.
Chris Souther
Hey guys. Maybe just a little bit on the sales pipeline and backlog. How those are looking up at this stage? You called out five to 600 chassis you're expecting to receive this year, so maybe just visibility of either W4 or W750 on that. And then, what are we getting as kind of an early sense of the 56 as far as kind of backlog building would be helpful for folks?
Rick Dauch
Yeah, we don't really publish right now the backlog. I think that's a fool's errand. I've seen a lot of that in the last couple of years with companies quoting all kinds of backlog, yet they don't have a factory, so how the hell are they going to produce them? So we are building it from the ground up.
Part of our dealer agreements, as we sign up dealers, they agree to take stocking orders. So typically that's ten per dealer. Some dealers have multiple sites. One dealer has 35 locations, another one has 21. Not every location is an EV target area. So I'd say that as we build up our dealer network, you'll see the backlog of our W4 CC and W750s grow.
Chris, I'm going down to see a dealer tonight â tomorrow. Down in the Southeast region they have a real strong interest in the W750. I go to other locations with the sales team, they only want W4 CC, so it's kind of jumping around. But we're confident that we have the balance right in terms of supply and demand. We know how many chassis we've ordered from Green Power and are being delivered. We have over 500 chassis on order right now and on their way into us. We had our 200 in the first quarter, and we think we'll be able to sell all those between now and the end of the year, early first quarter next year, so.
Chris Souther
Got it. Okay, that's real helpful. And then maybe just on the drone side.
Rick Dauch
You asked about.
Chris Souther
Yeah the 56 as well, will be good, yeah, thank you.
Rick Dauch
W56 I'd say is early. We've had some excellent preliminary meetings in Indianapolis with some of the big companies. We had additional meetings with those exact same companies. Now, this time in California they able to actually ride and drive the W56. It got very strong reviews from almost everybody who drove it on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I was surprised or we were surprised, how much attention our W56 chassis, the strip chassis, got. I came in one morning on Thursday, a little bit early to the show and I found four people on our truck with tape measures and taking photos of our chassis. So there's an interest there.
As you know, in the step-van space, it currently is basically either a freight liner custom chassis or a Ford chassis with an engine in it, and it goes to either Utilimaster or Morgan Olson for the body, right. We're kind of a disruptor here. We're going to be able to come in and build a chassis and put a body on, or we can sell our EV chassis to somebody. If they want to put a Morgan Olson body, great. If they want to put a Utilimaster body on it, that's great, we'll be able to play in all three areas there, so.
I would say it's a little early. I think they are reticent to give us orders until they get a demo on their hands. We have one customer who wants one for a minimum of two weeks. One wants it for a month, and one wants it for six months. And one of those customers is a large linen company that wants its special truck in the back and we'll see, and I'd say we had multiple meetings in California with either linen companies or bakery companies which are very interested in W56 and those are big, target rich environments.
One California linen company said they have over 1,000 trucks, and they are in their mandate now to convert at least 9%. That's 90 trucks alone in one year in 2024. So I think hopefully we'll give you a more clear picture as we move through the year here in the third and fourth quarter, so.
Chris Souther
Okay, that's super helpful. And then on the drone side, can you talk a little bit about kind of the production path? It seems like the customers are getting pretty close to moving forward here on the government side. Just what are the production rates you guys would be targeting and be able to kind of hand order, you know any incremental capital needs we should expect to kind of flow through?
Rick Dauch
We built the assembly lines in there to build somewhere between 500 to 1,000. I'm not sure we'll build that many this year, we'll see. I think the customers are being very cautious to make sure they want to get their hands on the vehicles for the drones and actually put them to their paces. We expect to get three or four â well, I'd say two or three more POs in the quarter, early third quarter, and there'll be like maybe dozens of birds total. Once we get that, I think we get through all their internal testing and I think you can see some bigger orders as we head out in the year, so.
Bob Ginnan
And I would add that the capital requirements for the production lines are pretty minimal.
Rick Dauch
Actually guys bought standard equipment, built their own substations. They've done some modifications. We have the substations built. We have the final assembly line built. We've staffed very lightly right now to make sure we can build some there. But I think we have like minimum 15 or 20 birds on the shelf right now, ready to go. So we've worked through our little pilot builds and that kind of stuff.
Chris Souther
Thanks for all the color. Iâll hop in the queue.
Rick Dauch
Great.
Operator
Thank you. Our next questions come from the line of Greg Lewis with BTIG. Please proceed with your questions.
Greg Lewis
Thank you and good morning. Good afternoon, everybody. Rick, I was hoping for a little bit more color around the fix for the cabin chassis, and really what I'm wondering is, it seems like from the start you knew there'd have to be some upgrading of the chassis. I guess it was more than you thought about. Is any of that stuff where we can go back to the supplier and have some of those changes fixed before you take delivery or is that something where we know what we're getting now on an ongoing basis and we're just going to have to do all these fixes ourselves?
Rick Dauch
Great question, Greg. So I'd say a couple of things. One, we've already talked to our friends at Green Power and their supplier to make some permanent changes. One of the changes is on the lights. We thought we could get that done by February or March. Turns out they couldn't get their suppliers tooled up until September, so we had to go out and pivot.
We had tooled up a small supplier to handle 25 or 30 that we shipped back in December, and that was okay. But when you're starting to bill up to 80 to 100 a month, you got to do something different. So that's one of the gaps we had to fill and we've worked that out both engineering wise, supply chain wise and financially with Green Power.
The back panels I think was one that I think we thought we'd sell more of the step vans, etc. When it came in and the customer started saying, âno, no we want more cab chassis,â we had a pivot to come up with that. That's something we haven't finalized yet. We've got a nice supplier that can keep up with us at the current build rates, and we'll have to make a decision whether we keep that here or we have to put that in coming in from China, so we'll see.
Greg Lewis
Okay. And then you mentioned the customer with the 40 deliveries, kind of highlighted that âhey, we're getting things going.â Was that a total 40 delivery order or was that actually larger?
Rick Dauch
Thatâs right. Currently it's a PO for 40. Itâs part of â if you remember last year, we talked about a reservation over 1,000 vehicles. So that's a conversion of some of those reservations into a real purchase order. We're talking to that same customer about a more steady pace of POs on a monthly basis. On their own nickel, they've gone up and tooled up and secured build slots at custom bodybuilders for different versions, specifically a dry van, a reefer and a flatbed. And they have some large quote activities there working on right now with some large fleets that are in the hundreds, I'll say, right. So they are successful [inaudible]. As they like to say to us, you're the only Class 4 pure EV truck in the market today.
Greg Lewis
Okay, great.
Rick Dauch
If you go to the last two shows, the last two shows I've been to I see a lot of introductions. A lot of the people's chassis, but most of them come to market in 2025 or 2026. Specifically ISUZU and a couple of other people like that, right.
Greg Lewis
No, no, no, definitely in a good spot. And then Bob, as I think about R&D, realizing we're still doing some things in development on the drone side, the existing portfolio rolling out the Next. I don't know, any kind of way for us to think about R&D on an ongoing basis or at least for the rest of the year.
Bob Ginnan
I think probably the easiest way to think about it is, our run rate captures our spend. And as we move to roll out on the W56, we'll reallocate that spend. I don't see big lumpiness in R&D spend. I think it'll continue on its pace.
Greg Lewis
Okay, perfect. Thank you for the time.
Rick Dauch
Great, thanks.
Operator
Thank you. Our next question has come from the line of Mike Shlisky with D.A. Davidson. Please proceed with your questions.
Mike Shlisky
Good morning and thanks for taking my question. Just a couple of follow-up questions here. First, on the Tropos, some of your earlier questions on Tropos, is there a sense â do you have a cadence as to when that might ramp up to a number of deliveries that kind of shows up in a material way your numbers or at some point, is there a point where you can tell us when you might get to that full 2000 rate?
Rick Dauch
Yeah, I'd say right now. Just like other companies, we've had some supply chain delivery issues there. We got our initial kits and I think we got 56 kits in. Unfortunately, some of those kits were incomplete or some of the parts came in with quality issues. We took a â I put a production pause in place for like five or six weeks. We asked the guys at Tropos to go to their supplier, a company called Sevic, and get their act together. They have committed to do that. They're making investment and so we think we're now starting to flow the right kind of parts here. So we can get a box out, we can get to build a full truck.
I'd answer your question. I think it's going to take us to balance the second quarter to get that supply chain under control, probably late third quarter, fourth quarter right, we should get a run rate there. They are having some good success commercially with selling the trucks, withy some of the bigger name companies, especially in education systems on the west coast specifically. So I think there's a market there for that truck and we're prepared to build them.
Mike Shlisky
Great. Thanks for that. And I wanted to also ask about some more details on the dealerships you've got signed up or talking with at the moment. You guys mentioned they want to add inventories to the demo units. You think you said something like ten or a modest number for each facility that will have them available for sale.
Did they also â at this point, do your dealership agreements [ph] also have kind of long term minimum take rates? I remember the old Workhorse management team had several dealerships signed up for thousands of units and things like that. Obviously they weren't necessarily guaranteed commitments, but they were guidelines and there were some take rates there. Is that how your new dealership agreements are kind of structured at this point?
Rick Dauch
I'd say slightly different. When I got here, I think we had 8,032 orders from three different customers. 500 from the Pritchard Group out of Iowa, 1000 from UPS, and 6000 some north of the border up in Canada, okay.
When we went back to those guys and said, hey, first of all the old C-1000 can only carry 3000 pounds, that ruled out the UPS order. When we told them that the cost was a hell of a lot more than 75,000 or 80,000 that ruled out the Canadian guy, and I give the Pritchard family a lot of credit for sticking with us. They helped, they gave us a lot of feedback on the C-1000. They helped guide us on the W4 CC and W750. And so they stuck with us and they are the ones who gave us 1,000 reservations.
To come to the specific dealers, all these dealers are putting their toes in the water too on the EV space, right, and so they are learning how and what it takes to become an EV. We don't want every commercial dealer. We want a handful of dealers that we can serve with trucks so we don't get in an allocation type situation. There are some that are very, I'd say Ford in the south looking at their areas. They know the incentive programs in their states.
Places like New Jersey, New York, where there's great incentives for Class 4 and Class 6 up to $100,000 a truck. Texas, nada. You would think of that as an EV friendly state, but they've got a lot of ports down there, and there's a lot of money coming in from the federal government to electrify the ports. There's a need down there, along the Charleston, the South Carolina, Florida borders and stuff like that where the ports are as well.
So the demos I talked about, we have each one of our field sales team now has at least one W4 CC or W750 demo they can take around the different trade shows with dealers. And there's one going on next week in California.
The ones I was talking about were the W56 demos. We're going to put those in the hands of five of the biggest companies in the last mile delivery space. You know they are three letter initials in a couple of places. Big leasing companies, big linen companies, big bakery companies. They are the ones who will buy thousands of trucks a year, right. I've watched it before as a board member at a previous company. They buy 5,000 trucks a year. They split it among two or three players, right. So that's where the W56 will get sold, right. That'll be direct to those big guys through a dealer somehow. So that's where we got to work out right now.
But hard to sell and convince them to spend upwards of $200,000 on a truck that they'd never ridden on before, right, so they want to make sure it's real. And so one of the good things we have here is we have those 280 E-Genâs out in the field. Most of its UPS with almost 9 million miles on it. They know we stand behind our products and those products run pretty good. They are still out there since 2017. So we can build on that with people like UPS. So when I got here, UPS said âif you canât carry 8000 pounds, quite talking to me.â And now they are taking to us.
Mike Shlisky
Got it, got it. Thatâs great color. Maybe one last one for me and this is on Stalls & Stables, so Iâve got kind of a few here. You know, it appears that some things we've already [inaudible] were partially electrified elsewhere in the country, and I'm curious whether you've compared notes with any of them. All the consequences is if they are open to be â to having EVs in their fleet. What do you plan to at least when you are up and running there with these, compared to contrast yours and also theirs, either privately or publicly once that's available?
Rick Dauch
I would tell you that, Stan's working closely. We're in constant discussions with the team at FedEx in the West Coast, where they've had some success in putting some bright drop vehicles out there and the West Coast and some other locations. We are anxious to get some of our vehicles in there as well, then we can compare and contrast, and they are different and we're learning at Stables & Stalls.
Some trucks are just class three, trucks that we deliver, certain routes, small packages to houses. Then we have some Class 4, 5, 6 big step-vans. We're delivering appliances, tires, lawnmowers. Those have to have a better bigger payload. Interesting for me, being new to the segment is that the UPS model and the FedEx model are totally different, same as DHL. Different size trucks, some own their fleets, some don't own the trucks, some own they have their drivers work for them, they're unionized, some are not, so there's a lot of different dynamics we're working through.
What we want to be able to do is we want to be agnostic and say, if you want to order a brown truck we'll build you a brown truck that can carry 8,000 pounds. You want to have a white truck with a purple, orange label or a green label on it that can carry only 2,000 or 3,000 pounds, we can do that as well. But the common theme is, they have all committed to meet the Paris Accord of being zero emissions by 2040 and so they have to convert these fleets.
These fleets are huge, 100,000, 120,000, one bakery has 66,000 delivery trucks for their baked goods here in North America and Europe. Other companies have tens of thousands of trucks as well. So there's going to be plenty of opportunities for us. As we said, we're ramping up this year our factory. Eventually we'll get to a 5,000 run rate per shift, probably by â25 and then if we need to, weâll go to two shifts and that'll be 10,000 trucks a year, that's a real company, right, 10,000 trucks, $150,000, $220,000 per truck, that's a big number right, so.
Mike Shlisky
Great. Thanks so much, I appreciate the color.
Rick Dauch
Thanks Mike.
Operator
Thank you. Our next question is coming from the line of correct Craig Irwin with ROTH MKM. Please proceed with your questions.
Craig Irwin
Good morning. And thanks for taking my questions. So most of my questions actually have been pretty thoroughly answered, but I was hoping maybe we could dig in just a tiny bit on the expense side and the 10 vehicles we got out in the quarter. Can you maybe just give us color on one-time expenses, as far as identifying those suppliers and engineering and integrating these new solutions into the vehicle and how that benefits you as you move to the 40 that you delivered I guess in the current quarter. And would you expect some of these early set-up and start-up expenses to having a material impact on margins?
Bob Ginnan
I think overall Craig, I don't expect them to have a material impact on margins. I think, you know, my previous comment on the R&D side kind of applies there that we'll just move those into the building of the next vehicles. Don't think it's substantial. I think the biggest issue for what you're trying to get at is, as we talk last year, we've maintained our workforce in our plant. And so obviously with the smaller volume, we've got those â everyone's working on other stuff, and as we ramp up volume, they'll be reallocated to the direct production vehicles.
So I think that's probably the biggest issue that's kind of getting at what you're trying to get to is, when you look at the Workhorse, they'll become more fully productive as we ramp up volume.
Rick Dauch
Yeah, we made a conscious decision when we had to shut down production and you can see not to layoff our hourly workers, right. I said it before, they didn't make a mistake, right. Why should they be punished? In a very tight labor market, we want to make sure we keep our skilled workers. There's some expense that we have right now as we get production going on and theyâll do better. We had to move locations. We opened up Wixom, we moved Aerospace. We moved the headquarters. We had to up pretty good, so we have a pretty tight handle. Bob's got a tight control on the reins there. So keeps the purse nice and tight. I think first quarterâs pretty good window into direct infrastructure.
Craig Irwin
Excellent. It's good to hear Bobâs got that strong grip. So just to pivot a little bit, the W56, you guys disclosed eight of the 12 built programs are complete. I guess thatâs as of this call. Itâs not as of the end of the quarter, so if you could maybe clarify that.
And then if you could maybe talk a little bit more about the remaining four build programs, and what initial production would look like there. Are we starting with one a week? Are we starting with a couple a weeks? What should we expect?
Rick Dauch
Yeah, great questions. So Dave Burkey came to us, 40 years plus experience in the industry building unique vehicles. He laid out very quietly for us how many trucks he wanted to get built.
Number one was just, let's build it, letâs come together, right. So we had a team at Union City putting the parts together. I'm really proud at the engineers, supply chain, the manufacturing, and sometimes the suppliers are sitting right online as we build the trucks. We're not building them at prototype shops, weâre doing it right in the factory and we're learning a lot. So that means you have to fit up issues, torque, can't get that bolt touched and that kind of stuff like that, wires crossing over.
So we're now in the stage, the first four I think we are basically just chassis to make sure we could build the chassis, right. What's it going to take to build the chassis? Then we started getting into the full vehicle. We have one built in time for a NTEA Show. I think we now have three full vehicles out at test; one in thermal testing, one at brake testing, and one in durability testing. Those tests take anywhere from two weeks to 40 days, 40 work days. You start the truck without a load, then about a week, you put it in a half load, and then basically towards the end of the testing, you put it in 100% load. So W56 can carry 10,000 pounds of payload.
So we'll load that thing up with 10,000 pounds of water, basically, you know in big totes. We've learned a lot already. So we've learned a lot and it's a lot of software configurations that we've done. So we're doing that, and then we go in right now.
The next two big ones we do are actually slow walk manufacturing. So we actually build the whole chassis and turn around to the Dyno and we go build the bodies to make sure we have all our work instructions, our process control charts done and then the last three or four trucks will be the ones we're going to send out the customers. That means we'll build those towards the end of June and July. They should be in the hands of the customer early July. And then we'll probably have a slow ramp. We'll start in August. We'll build chassis, get the chassis done aligned, 14 stations across the Dyno. Then we'll start coming back. I think weâll have 14 stations for the bodies as well.
So we haven't defined the exactly daily build rate. It's probably like one week for a while until we got all the bugs worked out and make sure all the suppliers are there and we'll just gradually ramp it up. But we know how many we want to build this year and sell in our budget and we have we have expectations we'll be able to build all those trucks and chassis.
Craig Irwin
Excellent. Well, thank you very much to take my questions. Congrats on the progress.
Rick Dauch
Thanks Greg.
Operator
Thank you. There are no further questions at this time. I would now like to hand the call back over to management for any closing remarks.
Rick Dauch
Well, I appreciate your questions and your interest in the Workhorse and we're going to go back, put our nose in the grindstone and kick some ass in the second quarter and get ready to build and sell some trucks and drones. Thanks a lot and have a great day!
Operator
Thank you. This does conclude todayâs teleconference. We appreciate your participation. You may disconnect your lines at this time. Enjoy the rest of your day.

2023.05.10 19:44 buymoreplants Top Chef: Atlanta - my pitch
As I cannot think of a reason Bravo and Magical Elves continue to snub Atlanta, here is my pitch for why they should come visit for a season.
First, Atlanta and Georgia are incredibly filming friendly. Countless reality shows, scripted shows, and movies are filmed here. There is always one challenge sponsored by a movie and they would have no issue finding one in Atlanta (so maybe the stars could be there instead of a weird Fast X pre-recorded segment). Perhaps something Marvel.
Secondly, there are a ton of companies headquartered in Atlanta who could sponsor challenges. Home Depot, Coca-Cola, Delta, UPS, etc..
Finally, we have great food!
Potential Challenges:
- Southern staples - traditional southern dishes or ingredients that the chefâs have to make their own. They could have Richard Blais as a guest judge as he moved to Atlanta from NY and wrote in his cookbook (which was co-authored by Tommy C.) about elevating traditionally southern ingredients in his own way.
- Take the chefâs to Savannah for a challenge with Mashama Bailey for an African diaspora challenge. She was already a guest on Top Chef Charleston, but she should come back. While they did this in Houston, you canât come to atlanta and not do an episode about how African American cuisine has influenced American cuisine.
- Restaurant Wars hosted by Kevin Gillespie. His restaurant, Gunshow, is small, but has an open kitchen that would be a nice twist because all the guests would be able to see and hear the chefs. Another potential host restaurant (if they keep the same format as this year) would be Lazy Betty. Which I think is phenomenal and they should feature Ron Hsu anyway.
- Georgia Aquarium. You can rent the Georgia Aquarium for private dinners (like Michael B Jordan did) and I would LOVE to see a judges table in the Ocean Voyager room or tunnel. On a similar note, World of Coke would be great spot for a challenge sponsored by Coca-Cola.
- Sports Challenge. Theyâve done football and soccer, so maybe golf or basketball. A lot of major TV networks film in Atlanta, like NBC and TNT. Maybe Iâve been watching too much NBA playoffs, but Iâd love to see Shaq guest host a challenge as a fast food mogul, of course. More likely it would commentators from NBC as they own Bravo and Golf Channel. A Masters-themed competition would be great. I donât know how Augusta or the PGA would feel about it, but if the show airs around a similar time, it would fit perfectly.
- An Athens/UGA challenge would be fun and they could bring Hugh Acheson back. He has a few restaurants in Georgia, currently one in Athens and one in Atlanta. He previously had one in Savannah as well.
- Mountain Challenge - it could be literally anything, maybe on outdoor challenge, but the North Georgia mountains are beautiful and deserve an episode. The Appalachian trail starts in Georgia, so maybe something about that. Or at a lake or park, like Amicola State Park.
- Indian Challenge with Meherwan Irani of Chai Pani (winner of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant in 2022). If they donât want to fully commit to Indian food, they could make it a street food challenge.
- Real Housewives quick fire. Because, cmon.
- Vegan Challenge with Pinky Cole at Slutty Vegan. I would love an completely Vegan challenge, and can personally attest as an omnivore that Slutty Vegan is freaking delicious and worth waiting in line.
- Olympics Food Hall Style Challenge - sure, it was in 1996*, but we hosted the Olympics! And Atlanta is home to a ton of food halls. They could start at Krog Street Market, feature Ticeronderoga, and then do outdoor food stalls at Centennial Park. Obviously, they would bring in Top Chef Olympian Dawn.
- And finallyâŚ. Stranger Things Challenge. Atlanta is the city in a forest, and Stranger Things uses the forest well. Iâm not normally a fan of outdoor cooking challenges, but something featuring these gorgeous city trees would be awesome. Maybe at Sweetwater Creek, Atlanta (the show) just filmed there.
Other places to film: - High Museum - Atlanta Botanical Gardens - Piedmont Park - Swann House at Atlanta History Center - Atlanta Beltline - The Battery - Buford Highway
Other Atlanta chefâs that could be guests: - Ford Fry (Little Rey, Marcel, Superica, the Optimist, and St. Cecilia) - Stacy Eames (Highland Bakery) - Todd Ginsberg (General Muir + many more) - Linton Hopkins (Holeman & Finch Public House + more) - Pano I. Karatassos (Kyma + more) - Gerry Klaskala (Aria + Canoe, canoe would be a great location) - Anne Quatrano (Bacchanalia + more)

2023.05.08 19:38 thegirlmisfit0811 I am 28 years old, make âŹ140,000 (HHI âŹ215,000), live in Dublin, Ireland, work as an accountant, and this week I sell a rental property and travel to India!
Assets/Debt
Retirement Balance: My retirement balance is currently âŹ25,000, my S/Os is âŹ10,000. My employer contributes 7% of my total salary and my husbandâs company contributes 6%. I put in 9% of my salary and my husband puts in 12% of his.
Equity if you're a homeowner: We currently own 2 properties, one that I bought with my brother that is currently in the sales process - purchased for âŹ227,000 in 2018 (we split the deposit of 10% and our parents helped with solicitors and closing fees); selling for âŹ315,000, current mortgage balance âŹ182,444 - total equity my half - âŹ66,278 - I will probably give my parents around âŹ15,000 of this on closing.
I purchased a second property with my husband in 2021 for âŹ265,000, took a loan of âŹ200,000 (we put in âŹ65,000 with our own savings and paid all closing costs) and currently owe âŹ190,862. Value of the property is now approximately âŹ300,000 so our equity is âŹ109,138.
3rd property - is currently sale agreed and we are working on closing. Bought for âŹ350,000 and have paid a âŹ10,000 deposit so far.
Total Equity in properties: âŹ186,416 on current property prices.
Savings account balance âŹ82,240
Checking account balance - checking and savings account are the same above, we donât split
Cryptocurrency - âŹ25,000 approx
Personal stock - âŹ30,000 approx
Company equity - $30,000 approx (both our companies give equity)
Credit card debt (and how you accumulated it) - none
Student loan debt (for what degree) - none
Total Assets: âŹ635k
Total Debts: âŹ282k
Total Net worth: âŹ354k
Anything else that's applicable to you - I also run a side hustle and we spend most of our money on traveling. My husband and I share almost all of our finances - which is not really the norm but I grew up like this with my parents and we canât imagine having to split food/traveling/mortgage payments/future kids/potentially not wanting to work some day. Itâs worked out well for us because my husband does not give one cahoot about spending money whereas Iâm more strict. Balance! We have separate Revolut accounts to spend on bits and pieces of our own but the main expenses come out of our shared bank account.
I grew up as the daughter of middle class emigrants, my parents having moved me and my siblings to Ireland quite young for a better life. My parents have always wanted us to stay close or live at home, and theyâve tried to give us as much as they could despite money being tight for many years growing up. They paid for private school and university fees (granted, this is WAY less than what the average person in the US would pay- school fees ~âŹ6,000 per year in secondary school and university ~âŹ3500 per year). Theyâve also given us more life experience rather than physical things, taking us traveling and teaching us about the value of money.
After a number of years living in Ireland, my parents started a business and although they struggled for a while, it eventually picked up. They were able to invest in a few properties and let us live in one of them; they donât want the stress of being landlords so they avoid renting their properties out except to family members. At times, if the flats are available and the market is decent in the summer, I will help to advertise and manage them on AirBnB and give all the proceeds to my parents. They have never been people who wanted to be rich, are extremely generous and donât buy anything luxurious or like to show off. I truly admire them and hope to be like them one day.
My husband moved to Ireland 5 years ago and weâve been slowly building our property portfolio so that we can retire early and travel the world. Weâre also thinking of having kids soon so that we can give them a similar life experience that we grew up with, with rich cultures, languages, food and family.
Since I grew up in an environment where we constantly tried to save money (used coupons, bought discounted food, traveled cheap, always trying to get the best deal, never bought anything luxurious, clothes were for covering your body only etc.), I grinded for a few years when I first started working, and now itâs really difficult for me to spend money despite being able to splurge. Iâve never been a person who desires material things, and I still always look for good deals and make sure that everything is value for money, but I would like to have the mental freedom of being able to spend money without feeling anxious.
Income
Income Progression:
I've been working in finance for 6 years. CPA/ACA in Ireland is straightforward, a 3.5 year training contract with an accredited company, with salary progression throughout. Once that is completed, youâre considered a qualified chartered accountant if you pass 3 sets of exams. I worked in financial services for one of the big 4 for my training contract, before moving into tech.
Year 1: âŹ23,000 (+âŹ750 bonus for passing exams)
Year 2: âŹ26,000 (+âŹ2500 bonus for passing exams)
Year 3: âŹ36,000 and after passing exams, âŹ47,000
Year 4: âŹ56,000 after moving companies
Year 4: moved companies again - âŹ80,000 base + 15% bonus + $23,500 equity
Year 5: âŹ84,000 base + 20% bonus + $32,000 equity
Start of this year: âŹ87,500 base + 20% bonus + $35,000 equity
Main Job Monthly Take Home
Mine: âŹ4700 salary only (bonus paid annually; equity is paid monthly into stock account); deductions: âŹ1,939 (income tax, universal social charge, employee PRSI), pension âŹ656
Husband: âŹ2550 salary only (bonus paid annually; equity is paid monthly into stock account); deductions: âŹ956 for taxes as above, âŹ338 for pension
Side Gig Monthly Take Home
Approx. âŹ80-150 per month depending on sales
Rental income
Property 2 makes âŹ1850 per month (Taxed approx âŹ500 per month after allowable expenses)
Expenses:
Mortgage on property 1: âŹ819 (will be gone after this month)
Mortgage on property 2: âŹ972
Mortgage insurance: âŹ10, management fee âŹ125 on property 2
Living in a property owned by my parents so we give them âŹ700 per month for bills and incidentals
Investment contribution varies - my husband handles the stocks and likes to put in maybe âŹ2500 a quarter and buys depending on the market. I no longer put money into crypto (lol)
Electric 0
Wifi/Cable/Landline 0 - paid by work
Cellphone 0 - paid by work, but I do pay my dadâs phone bill every month âŹ7.99
Health, life, travel, dental & vision insurance is all paid for by work.
Subscriptions âŹ9.99 Spotify, âŹ2.99 iCloud (we steal Netflix, Disney+ and Prime off various family members)
Gym membership - mine is âŹ32 per month and my husbandâs is covered by work (along with a gym plan he uses) - I have a gym and pool at work but it's nice not to have to stay in the office late or go only for this reason.
Pet expenses 0
Car payment / insurance - Fuel - âŹ40 per month (we barely use our car and was a hand me down)
Regular therapy 0
Paid hobbies - husband plays football âŹ10 per month
Travel card - ranges but approx âŹ20 per month as we are both close enough to the office to walk, scooter or cycle
2 May
Working from home today, so I wake up 10 minutes before 9am and roll myself to my desk in the living room. My husband has his own set up in the spare bedroom so heâs working from there today too.
My brother and his wife were away for a concert over the weekend so along with our parents, I was looking after their one year old son. They arrived back from London this morning so we meet them at McDonalds for breakfast. The little guy is happy to see his parents and does a dance in excitement. My parents get us egg and sausage mcmuffins, hash browns and coffee to share.
We all head our separate ways to work or home. I work for a couple of hours, my husband and I walk to our rental property to deliver a dryer and fix the shower. On the way back, we grab some groceries for lunch (âŹ4.34) - a box of chicken legs and some salad. I try to make my parents lunch whenever I work from home as they work about a 5 minute walk away.
Itâs month end close this week (the accountants will know :)) so I get busy with work. In the evening, I head to the apartment my brother and I are selling as someone wants to pick up a bed - weâve been trying to get rid of the furniture so we're selling it cheap. (+âŹ50). I head home for another meeting before going to the gym. An hour in, someone texts me about picking up the sofa. I head over again and sort that out too (+âŹ70). Itâs great that everything is so walkable in Dublin city!
On the way home I text my mum whoâs still in our apartment with friends and ask her if sheâd like me to make dinner (they were planning on eating out) for everyone. She says yes so I grab some groceries on the way (frozen parathas, Japanese curry mix, chicken, eggs and green beans) - âŹ20.69. Takes me around 45 minutes to make dinner and everyone seems to like it so thatâs a good sign. My husband packs away the leftovers for his lunch tomorrow.
Take a shower and wind up in bed watching Young Offenders (an Irish movie which is hilarious). Head to bed around midnight.
Day total: âŹ25.03
3 May
Wake up with weird dreams about PokĂŠmon. In my dream, I was allowed to pick between the 3 usual starter PokĂŠmon, but also given a choice if I wanted to pick a surprise one in a PokĂŠball. Naturally my curiosity gets the better of me even in my dreams and I choose the surprise. It turns out to be a Psyduck who only wants to eat. Reminds me of myself. Mental note to self to not spend so much time on my phone before sleeping.
I scooter to the office and grab some eggs, sausages and watermelon from one of the restaurants. Both our companies have free food and itâs a lifesaver during the day not to have to think about what to make or bring to work.
Rent has come through on our rental property. I put away amounts for the mortgage, service charge, property taxes, income taxes and repairs, and split the rest between me and my husband (+âŹ100 each)
Work through to lunch and grab a quick lunch of fish burger and chicken tostadas before heading back to work. My husband comes to pick me up early as the car is getting serviced nearby and he needed to go and collect it. My dad has already paid for this and doesnât want to take money from us. Finish off work at home and head to the gym for a leg day. Pick up some avocados and other groceries for the evening dinner - âŹ12.5 - still have lots of curry from last night leftover so have that for dinner with a protein shake and guacamole and chips.
Head out to our rental again to clean it and get a couple of things fixed. The tenant moves in tomorrow so last minute items to handle. We end up spending over an hour doing things, and then head home. I start packing for India and realize how much stuff we always end up bringing back for family.
Past midnight and itâs time for bed. Itâs been a busy day!
Day total: âŹ12.5
4 May
Wake up with weird dreams again, this time about the ceiling falling apart. I scooter to work again and Iâm clearly not in a good mindset because I get beeped at 3 times and nearly fall off once. I get off and walk for a bit to clear my head.
Office breakfast same as yesterday except with a waffle to cheer me up. Straight to work. Check into our flight to India tomorrow. We are heading to a cousinâs wedding, a friendâs wedding and my husbandâs nieceâs birthday. Itâs super busy everytime we go to India and we try to pack as much in as possible.
I head to the solicitor to sign the contracts for the sale of mine and my brotherâs property. He conveniently forgot to let me know that he needs my husband to sign something too. I get it done and arrange for my husband to come in later. I head to the dentist to get my aligners to straighten my teeth and pay down some of the balance (âŹ500). I rush back to the office, grab a takeaway wrap for my husband and some pasta for myself before eating at my desk.
Meanwhile, my husband goes to get a haircut (âŹ20) and heads to sign the documents.
Since my husband is coming back from the solicitor, he picks me up on the way home. I pick up a takeaway iced coffee to share. I also grab a bar of chocolate and a pack of popcorn to have on the way out. Iâm clearly obsessed with food.
My parents had a couple of friends who need to stay for a night on their layover back to the US, so I let them use our spare room. I head out to pass the new tenant the keys to the apartment. I get our niece an engraved bathrobe on the way as she's growing out of the old one we got her when she was born (âŹ35).
On the way back it starts to rain, so I quickly grab a box of chicken wings (âŹ3.99) to bake in the oven. Iâll pair it with some instant noodles so that we donât have to get too many groceries before heading off tomorrow.
My parents are around to see their friends and also to say goodbye. They hang out in our living room while we watch the football (soccer for the Americans). I finish packing, boil our remaining eggs so that they don't go to waste (eggs are getting pricey so no wastage here!), and head to bed.
Day total: âŹ558.99
5 May
We wake up early to catch our flight and head out the door. We take a cab to the airport (âŹ28.50). My husband has left his gift buying until last minute (of course) so we meddle around in the perfumes and alcohol section (âŹ72 on Jimmy Choo perfume and âŹ45 on Irish whiskey).
My boiled eggs come in handy for a pre flight snack. We board and are on our way to Abu Dhabi. My husbandâs friends book his ticket to a stag in August while heâs on the flight (âŹ200). We land 7 hours later, I watch Bridgertonâs spin off on the plane and Everything Everywhere All at Once. What a fantastic movie!
Our layover is 2 hours but since we had decent food on the plane, we donât eat and just sit around for a while waiting for our next flight. Hop on the 2.5 hour flight to Delhi and land quite late so we grab a cab to the inlaws (500 rupees or âŹ6). Immediately crash in bed.
Day total: âŹ351.5
6 May
A wedding today! Wake up at 9am and have dosa and fresh mangoes for breakfast. End up taking another 2 hour nap. Get ready and head out to get a few things done. First, Starbucks for the coffee drinkers where my sister in law pays. We head to an outdoor market to get a petticoat for the saree Iâm wearing in the evening (500rs or âŹ6), we get a mango shake and also a lime juice for a beggar who asks for one (100rs or âŹ1.10). I pick up a magnetic drawing board for my nephew (300rs or âŹ3.30). We stop for other bits and pieces (shoes for niece, sindoor and bindis for the bride, eyeliner). We head back to my in-laws place where they have a beauty parlor in the complex. I get threading done with my sister in law and my brother in law gets a haircut, we pay for everything which is 937rs or âŹ10 (crazy cheap!).
A lady gets called to the flat to do my hair and makeup and drape my saree (3800rs or âŹ41.5). My sister in law has ordered some butter chicken so I eat while getting my hair done. Once Iâm good to go, everyoneâs still getting ready so I text my girl gang back home about a trip weâre planning to Spain the same weekend as my husbandâs stag. The tickets are decently priced for the bank holiday weekend so I book flights for us (âŹ175 for mine and my friends revolut me their amounts).
Everyoneâs good to go so we make the long drive through Delhi traffic to get to the venue. The usual Indian wedding madness ensues - saying hi and touching the feet of relatives, making small talk, eating lots of food, taking pictures with everybody and waiting for the bride and groom. We eventually head back around 1am.
Head to bed.
Day total: âŹ236.5
7 May
Wake up late and have uttapam and eggs for breakfast. We're heading out today to find more clothes for the next wedding in a few days. We drive to a market with a large amount of shops. First, we go to get my ears repierced because they closed over earlier last year. The cost is 2500rs but my sister in law pays. We stop by a store that sells crocs and buy our niece some Elsa crocs and I get some Crocs accessories for family back home (random, I know) (4400rs or âŹ48). My brother in law and husband get momos (Indian dumplings), some lemon drinks and an ice cream.
My sister in law gets me a blouse for the saree Iâll wear to the wedding next week. I stop by a clothes store and buy a kurta and dhoti pants set to wear to the sangeet (one of the events before the wedding) - 9500rs or âŹ104. We stop for dinner at a pasta and pizza place. My sister in law pays. We will try to pay her back for everything at the end of the trip but she barely allows us to. Instead, we sneakily try to pay when we can (i.e. the Crocs). After dinner, my husband and I chat while we wait for the in-laws to get a few things. Then we head home through the Delhi traffic.
I text a few friends and check my emails before the work day tomorrow. We watch the cricket and some of the football and finish off the leftover food from dinner. Off to bed.
Day total: âŹ152
8 May
Wake up around 10am and reply to a few emails on my phone to clients on this side of the world. Head to the gym in the complex with my husband and get a short workout in. Head back upstairs to start the work day in line with the Ireland time zone.
Have lunch - leftover butter chicken, aubergine and a daal curry with rotis. Back to work. A short term tenant from apartment 1 sends me âŹ200 for the electricity bill that he over accrued last month.
Spend most of the day working. Head down for a snack and coffee with the inlaws in the evening. They pay and we add it to our mental bill to send it when we go home.
Finish working with late meetings with the US team, have a light dinner of egg bhurji and head to bed. Finally a quiet day!
Day total: âŹ0
Week total spend: âŹ1337

Reflection:
This isnât a normal week for us. Iâm still paying down my teeth aligners (donât really know why Iâm not just paying this off once and for all) and we donât usually buy flights every week so it was quite an exception. We are not big spenders and probably only buy clothes seasonally or if something is really necessary. The gifts are a big thing for me, since weâve started to earn more. I always think itâs nice to treat family and friends with small little things that catch my eye that I know they will like.
I know we are doing well but Iâm mentally finding it so hard to get out of that money saving mindset. Itâs been a huge obstacle of mine ever since I started working. This is what Iâll be working on for the next couple of years as we start to grow our net worth. My husband is completely the opposite, he doesnât think about money at all and is fine with spending on anything within reason. Itâs nice to be married to someone who provides some balance. I know that we are really blessed to be in this position - it was hard work but mostly I have to acknowledge that our parents gave us a massive leg up in life.
Ask me anything :)

2023.05.02 08:47 gpdpm I was expelled because I wasn't attending worship services regularly but I experienced a lot more trauma and tragedy inside.
This includes rape, grooming, drugs, strong language and violence. Not suitable for kids. Its also super long coz its my life experience in the church. I'm not against the teachings but I'm against who's inside now.
Last 2 weeks I was visited by a Group leader of our locale together with his wife. They told me to acquire transfer into another locale cause they we're gonna remove me, my husband and my kid's records coz we didn't attended the Thanksgiving and "banal na hapunan" or "sta.cena" last December and last month. I told them that I would talk to my husband about it but in my case I would just accept their decision. As you have told me the last time we talked sabi mo manalangin ako as if naman hindi ako nananalangin parang inassume mo na nakipaghiwalay ako sa Diyos nyan." and He replied "ka. **** Hindi naman po sa ganon...." I interrupted him and said "you guys never helped me nung sinabi ko sainyo na may isang kapatid na sinabihan ako na parang wala akong Diyos nung panahong on peak ang pagluluksa ko sa lola ko. You never help. Kung anong desisyon nyo tatanggapin ko nalang ng buong puso. Ganon nalang po. Kayo na bahalang mag desisyon sa kaligtasan ko." He said "kayo po ang gumagawa ng kaligtasan nyo." I replied "ah ganon po ba? Para saan po yung tungkulin nyo? Di ba para gabayan ang mga miyembrong nang hihina? Ganon nalang po kung anong desisyon nyo tatanggapin ko. Wag na po kayong bumalik dito." His wife said "pirmahan mo yung visitation card nya" he said "hindi na to kailangan expired na to 2 months lang to eh." I said "ganon naman po pala eh edi umalis na po kayo sa harapan ng gate ko." I cried for a week because of it it felt like I was stabbed to death and it was slowly pulling out of my body. Then I dreamt of everything happened to me while I was inside the church.
Here what happens, I grew up being in the church as if it was my 2nd home I wasn't handog due to my mom being a catholic and my dad being tiwalag by living in with my mom. I served the church since 3 years old I was attending children worship services without any guidance of any adult in my home since my grandma and I always switch places to live and her taking care of her daughter and her family. It was changed when we permanently lived at our ancestral home I became a children worship service choir member I was discriminated coz I wasn't handog people make fun of me coz they thought I was trying so hard to fit in, I was 8 years old at that time. When I was 10 years old my lola had over fatigue that got to a point of her being in a comatose state my father was taking care of her, my mom was too busy on her new baby and I was forced to stay on my aunt's roof, before I decided to settle in my aunt's roof I seek refuge in the church they told me that they were devasted for my Lola's state but can't take me in coz no one in the community wanted to do it and I can't live in the compound coz only immediate family of the church caretaker and pastor are allowed to lived inside the compound but they hoped that I don't take it as embarrassing as it was and continued to serve God and the church, which I did. I did it until it came to a point that I was experiencing a lot of poverty that I can take, I only ate leftovers of my 3 year old cousin and the left overs in the refrigerator that is a month or less inside. I ask them even just for food but they can't give me coz they said their part of church donation is too little even for them to survive.
I was gang rape by this time too by a family member (we'll call him A) and his co-workers repeatedly and got pregnant by it I was 11 by this time(i was 9 when I got my first menstruation) I got beaten by the same people when they found out that I was pregnant until I lose my baby I never ask for the church to help.me coz I knew that they wouldn't reach hands on me for help so I asked my classmate to help me bury my kid in a shallow soil and plant of a nearby factory. The gang rape continued until I was 12 because my lola recovered when I was 12 but the rape of A goes on until I was 16, rebelling against my whole family and starting to find and take odd jobs for money if you would ask if why it continued they were drug addicts everytime the do it to me they were under the influence of it, why didn't I fight for it? At first I did but there's too many of them and I'm too young and no one came to help me plus they threatened me that they will murder my lola if I refuse or tell a soul about it. Yes, some of them are members of the church. I felt like a spawn of Satan that time but my lola introduced me and got me doctrinated when I got baptized I felt I was cleaned somehow but that cleanliness is too short lived. I joined the children worship services servants there is where I met a 40 year old man (that we'll call B) that will make me feel even dirtier than before, B lovebombed me coz he knew that I was like an orphan and I'm lacking on any parental figure and love. B groomed me at 13 years old he would ask me to join him visiting children every saturday and sending those kids home after service which I think I wasn't allowed to disapprove coz it was part of my job as they said so (most of the people in the children worship services) after visiting the children and sending them home B will take me into his home and touch me inappropriately and uncomfortably I called him out but he trapped me inside his room with couple door locks with dead bolt that needed a key to open. B told me to be quiet and he will show me and teach me how to love someone and he will love me as much as I wanted. B kissed me torridly as I was pushing him he leaned himself more to the point all of B's weight was on top of me, he touched me inappropriately and in places a 13 year old shouldn't know. B forced me to learn how to fellatio and came out on me, put out his duck and remove my panties ad rub his duck's hed into my cat's line I always try to stop him but he always pin me down via choking me and threatens me to insert his full duck in my cat's mouth, I will forcibly let him do his thing and watch him enjoy me and satisfying himself until he showers me in his cm in my face and my body it was like that for a year other CWS servants pushed me to team with him visiting children and I don't have any choice if I don't arrive he will report me at the CWS Head officer. At 14 B forced himself inside me, it was after an prayer meeting he followed me and convince people with me to convince me for him to send me home, I said I don't want to but he payed a friend of mine 100 peso to force me ride his motorcycle when I did he rushed his motorcycle too fast that my whole body is leaning into him and me almost falling from the motorcycle. We arrived at his home I didn't go down from the motorcycle he pulled me into his room, put put a big ass scissors and blindly cut my dress (my dress is below the knee loose dress) I got cuts from it he said "wag kang malikot masusugatan kita, wag ka na lumaban" then he pinned me into the wall via choking while cutting my dress off. Then he pinned me into the bed while choking me and snipped my underwear, I loose all my strength that time so he let go of my neck undress himself and started violating my upper body then he whispered "masakit to sa una pero masasarapan ka din" then he inserted his duck and shocked coz I didn't reacted and it didn't bleed he moaned and whispered "hindi ka na pala virgin naghintay pa ko ng matagal" he enjoyed while I cry he send me home without underwear and wearing big shirt I didn't woke up my grandma I slowly, silenly and creeping getting inside our home, that was the first then it happened a little more coz I was forced to teamed up with him all of this is either I'm wearing my white coat style top and skirt uniform or formal clothes. I told someone but she told me not to tell anyone coz B's the photographer of the locale and the locale will lose big if he was removed. So I didn't tell a soul but that continues even inside the church, he will touch my breast fast enough if he thinks no one can see. At this time I was also in the secretariat section of the church and I was 15. Everytime there's prayer meeting or caucus of all church servants I was the one assigned into helping people sign the attendance and B will be there beside me and forcing me to let him touch my lower private area with my panties removed and in his pockets as his souvenir. It continued until I was 16 to the point that his girlfriend that time told everyone that I was seducing him and I was pokpok and I would spread my legs in every man I might cross it flew around especially to the women in the church. B also promoted from being the locale photographer into district head of multi-media sector. He also took tons of photos of me in his camera that he used in the church while I'm too weak to defend myself because he choked me. This is also where I met someone in his late 30's (we'll call him C) in the church that would force me to have sex with him and his friends, to have orgy and for C to sell me into different men and help them to pin me down to the ground and let those men fuck me anywhere even in a dark abandoned place and in dark undeveloped part of a subdivision or even in the dark parts of public places fully naked and choking me using some gadgets and knick knacks, C also forces me to take party drugs for them to enjoy me and for them to have consensual sex with me. C also calls me slut and I wouldn't have salvation coz I'm dirtier than the Ilog Pasig that different ducks got inside me, abused me, have fun with my cat and pleasured everyone. Everytime that he used me he would thank me during doing it coz he bought a motorcycle because of me and people on the church thought of them as rich person and he got to give his parents huge amount for the church offering. He would say while doing it "pokpok kita. Ipapagamit kita kahit kaninong magbabayad." And everytime I would try to escape he will go to my home and give my lola large amount of money and he will be welcomed into my room and throw me some money in hundreds and say "akin ka lang. Hindi ka pwedeng umalis. Hahanapin kita kahit nasaan ka pa." Then C will slap me then kneel me down the bed backwards and will use me. It makes me sick to my stomach everyday that time and now that I remember it (I have a line from my neck from them choking me repeatedly). I slightly departed to the church to get away from them to leave my lola decency and good image and rebelled in everything this is where I started to drown myself into alcohol and accepted what people think of me. if anyone would ask if why I didn't do anything my answer is I don't know any better I was experiencing the same at home. When I was 17 my lola begged me to serve church again so I can join her everytime because of my great love to her I agreed there is where I met a 45 year old man (we'll call him D) that thought I was in legal age to pursue but eventually he knew I was minor but continued to pursue me this one didn't treat me and lured me as the first one did, he was kind at most times at that time he treated me nicely but it change when he knew who my family was (my mother's side was somewhat prominent and kinda wealthy and my father's side of family is also well off coz they have diplomas and nice jobs my grandma and I never ask for money to them coz she said God will provide so I didn't?) he would always tell me "gutom na gutom na ko kakauwi ko lang di pa ko kumakain wala na kasi akong pera." At 12mn I would deliver him food everyday for few months. The first time I did I was expecting to give it outside hid home but he forced me inside and forced me to have sex with him and everyday it will happen and he asked me money for quite some time from me after me taking some odd jobs (my lola doesn't have money and her children wouldn't give her some coz of me so I'm taking odd jobs to feed us). After he got tired of me he told me right after I helped him moved out from his rental home where I deliver food he told me "maghiwalay na tayo nagsasawa na ko sayo. Liligawan ko na si *(another secretariat officer) kasi mas mahinhin sya kesa sayo." But he still asks for food and beverages but inside the secretariat office as if I was his personal servant. I forgot he was a children worship service preacher. This time the tsismis that I was pokpok, seducer and pakarat (a woman whose willing to have sex with any human being easily) resurfaced but this time I didn't care more. At this time someone reported me that I was asking money for sex to fellow members, I spilled everything that happened to me and stated that I wanted to stood up to every members that has been groomed and raped by fellow members. The pastor told me that "anong gusto mong gawin sa nang gang rape sayo? Hindi ko mabibigyan ng justisya yung kela *, **** & ******* dahil pundasyon na sila ng lokal na to pati ang magulang ni ******" then I told him "wala na po kayong gagawin sakanila lalo na po kung di naman po lahat maaaksyonan nyo. May pamilya na po yung nang gang rape sakin ayoko pong matulad saakin yung mga anak nila na mawalan ng magulang" he replied "napakabait mo pala. Sabagay kahit yayain kitang makipagsex sakin papayag ka eh." I was shocked and never trusted any members of the church ever again. I never talked about it in the church members or officers coz I feel more violated that those men did to me. If any one would ask if I did revenge I don't and if I did do anything to stop it I did but I can't, it came to a point I prayed my life to end and slashing my pulse using blade and knives. Also I really thought that pleasuring men if my job as a woman coz that was planted on my brain when I was gang raped and my brain will be forever be warped. At 18 I was removed in the church for getting pregnant and wedded into a man that wasn't member of the church. My lola begged me to go back and force my husband tobe doctrinated too which he happily agreed. I got back at 20 and the secretariat office asked me to go back and help them which I agreed also. This time every women in that locale accused me of seducing their husband by the way I wear mind you I wear teacup length skirt and palm size of skin under the neck showing top. This accusations got worse than before to the point I was forcing myself to do my job and me hearing their murmurs even in the middle of me attending worship service.
My aunt ordered me to help her daughter in law to get in the church coz she's been doing it for years which I did less than a month, the "katiwala ng ilaw" told me "magpapabautismo lang yan kasi magpapakasal sa pinsan mo pustahan tayo ng tungkulin hindi magiging masigla yan pagkabautismo nyan." I never answered but it did happen and he told me again "sabi ko sayo eh manlalamig yan pagkatapos ikasal sa pinsan mo. Oh ano bababa ka na ba sa pagiging kalihim ng purok at ng ilaw?" Which I did go awol I left without a trace and no one to hand down my duties. That same "katiwala ng ilaw" has a son which I became friends with so I thought. He knew that I was freelance make-up artist so he booked me for a Halloween event and even help him carry every bs he had bought with him even if its too stinky for me but he said "utang muna nazero ako sa kakabili ng parts ng costume para manalo pag nanalo babayaran kita" which I agreed coz he was a friend of mine it took him a year to pay it when I asked about it he said "wala pa kong pera eh mag hintay ka" the next year he booked me again for helping him in a warner bros event last 2019 along with my husband's nephew but he never payed us but I payed my nephew because of me being ashamed by his actions. last 2020-2021 we got closer to the point that he would tell me he's hungry and doesn't have money to buy food so I would rush into his home and buy him somewhat expensive food the lowest cost of food is 300 and the highest is 2k and it is repeating habit of him maybe 8-12x a month sometimes he would ask me to accompany him in Shangri-la for his internet problems and he would let me ride a jeep and kkb so I would tell him "mag taxi nalang tayo kasi mahirap sumakay ng jeep dahil may covid." He always answer "babayaran mo zero balance na kasi ako. Kailangang kailangan Ko lang sa work yung net eh" I always say yes and monthly it would happen. He treated me one time in a pub gig with a ticket thats 500 pesos but I needed to pay fare and food for 3k pesos along with cooking food in his home and buying ingredients and alcohol for the group. May of 2021 my lola passed away he was there to "console" me when in fact he and his family was there to brag to people being part of the church and being active officers to the point my family reached on to me to call them out because it was too embarassing for the family but they didn't stop. His mom asked me to lend some money to pay her bills 2k in a month then it will turned into worship service offerings. He also asked me to lend some money for his food that reached into 4k that goes into his tinder and grindr hook-ups, alcohols and somewhat payment for hook-ups and on his birthday celebration alcohol. After few months I felt I'm not having any boundaries on him so I put one and he popped like a champagne and accusing me that it wasn't their fault that I chose to accompany him when he has depression episodes and anxiety attacks just to make him feel good rather than chosing to stay with my lola in her remaining days coz I was old enough to make decisions when in my part he threatened to take so much valium to take his life off. When I asked for my lended money he told me "1500 lamg mabibigay ko take it or leave it pakibigay gcash number." when he promised to pay 3000 pesos Then reporting it into the church and them returning the full price of my money. And a year after I discovered from her sister in law that his mother told that them that it was divine justice that my lola died coz I was bad at them and because "inuusig ko daw sila na mga anak ng Diyos"
Now I never wanted to go back coz I don't want their actions mirrored into mine and vise versa. Plus I felt like it was just some kind of business coz the group leaders, the ministers and the pastors would always remind members every visitation about the church offerings which was 4 kinds handog, lagak, tanging handugan at lingap but the lingap that were given are donations by the members in kind.
If you would say its because of their actions and not God's calling. Yes, it is but its also their way of life that they use to lure other people to join the church and teachings gives pointers on the way of living that members must follow strictly no one could reason out "tao lang sila nagkakasala din" coz if this is their argument their using the church as a ticket to heaven even they do bad and shitty things. You can't give me some reasonable explanation coz the one that stayed and they said have "salvation" still has the people who sexualized me and used me as their toy and to pleasurize them.

2023.04.29 13:12 Keen_NYC Initial license who they went to and where are they opening
In says this information was updated beginning of April so it should be pretty accurate
For most of the rest of the state, including the other four New York City boroughs and Long Island, the announcement was met with joy from the businesses and nonprofits that are receiving the licenses, as well as from companies and organizations who hope to get licenses in the next round of license granting.
Matthew Robinson was among the newly named licensees.
âI know it changes everything,â he said, after being named as one of the 36 whoâd successfully gone through the months-long application process. âIt doesnât feel real ⌠Thereâs just nothing that can explain it.â
Like all of the license recipients, Robinson had been arrested for marijuana-related incidents in the past when possession was illegal in New York. It had been until last year.
In 2005, Robinson was detained by police who were looking for someone whoâd been in a fight nearby. He hadnât been involved in the altercation, but he happened to have marijuana on him at the time.
âI got arrested and booked on a marijuana charge for a fight I had nothing to do with,â he said, but added that for him to now possess a cannabis sales license is recompense. âItâs definitely justice served ⌠and itâs being served in a nice, warm dish right now.â
Robinson also owns a contracting business, called Bold Mold Eliminators. Because heâs a business owner, it put him in the running for a corporate cannabis sales license. He filed for it by creating a new, cannabis sales-specific business, called Essential Flowers.
Robinson is based in Albany, but he requested guidance for applying for a license in Manhattan from the Harlem-based JustĂźs Foundation. The foundationâs founder, Scheril Murray Powell, said that Robinson was one of 23 people she helped to apply for licenses. The nonprofit director said that sheâs looking forward to some of the other people sheâs worked with getting their licenses, as well, in subsequent rounds of license granting.

2023.04.26 21:25 FelicitySmoak_ Was Michael Jackson really "grooming" these families?
| "I used to walk the streets looking for people to talk to. I'm talking about the height of one's careerâŚ. I would walk up to them, strangers, and say, 'will you be my friend?'" - Michael Jackson,2002 The prosecution & a part of the media often used the loaded term âgroomingâ while describing Michael's friendship with children, specifically young boys & their families. This narrative was further pushed in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland where every kind gesture, every fax, phone call & gift was characterized as âgroomingâ Grooming in this context is meant as âthe act of attempting to gain the trust of a minor with the intention of having a sexual relationship with him or herâ Jackson often befriended various families and bought their children and/or the parents gifts, but that this was done with the intention of sexually abusing the children is not a fact, just an unproven allegation. As always, it is important to put things into a context. Michael was an extremely generous man & that was the case since his childhood. He did not regularly give gifts only to young boys, nor only to children & their parents but also to adult friends & even complete strangers. The prosecution & the accusers later tried to use his generosity against him & tried to turn it into something heinous but their claims should not be taken as a fact, just an allegation. The reality is that Jackson was generous with everyone: male/female, young/old, friends/strangers. The overwhelming majority of the young people whom he befriended defended him from the allegations & said that they had never seen or experienced any nefarious intention by him There are many documented cases of Jacksonâs generosity & I will give you an exhaustive list of examples to show that his generosity was not at all limited to his treatment of young boys but he behaved like that with everyone he considered a friend or even complete strangers. Generous as a child Both of Michael Jacksonâs parents remember him as very generous and giving from an early childhood. His father said in 2009: âHe wasnât ever really interested in money. Iâd give him his share of a nightâs earnings & the next day heâd buy ice cream or candy for all the kids in the neighborhood.â In the 1990 book entitled My Family, The Jacksons, written by Michaelâs mother, Katherine, we read: âI asked that question regarding some of Michaelâs other personality traits as he was growing up. There was the matter, for example, of his generosity. Occasionally it went too far. One day when Michael was in the 2nd grade I couldnât locate a piece of my jewelry. âWhat happened to my bracelet?â I finally asked the kids. Michael looked up and replied nonchalantly, âOh, I gave it to my teacher.â I didnât punish him because I thought it was nice for him to want to give. But I didn't instruct him: âDonât do it again.â But Michael didnât listen, and more of my jewelry disappeared.â Female children Laura Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin âMichael Jackson came three times to the mansion, he was like a childâ âI was about 12 years old when Michael Jackson came to the mansion. Subsequently, he called me almost every day to chat. He sent me incredible birthday gifts. Huge cartons. I went up on stage with him in Geneva. He was a great friend of the family. â "During his first visit, MJ had landed by helicopter in the garden of the domain. âI was pretty impressed,â said Laura. âWe had 9 dogs & he was afraid. We had to lock them up" At the time of eating, seeing the big table, Jackson sat down with the children. âHe was very shy. He was doing pirouettes in the garden. We played the PlayStation. He was a great kid. 'Smile' composed by my grandfather was one of his favorite tracks" Laura & Kevin Chaplin The Taiwanese Ma Twins A Taiwanese fan, Mrs. Ma Qi Zhen, not only met Michael with her family, but she also became a close friend of Michael's for many years. Mrs Ma had always kept a low profile about their 17 year family friendship with Michael. It was until Michaelâs sudden passing that Mrs. Ma spoke out for the 1st time about this in the media. She pays tribute on how kind, loving & approachable he was. She shared her memories of an extraordinary friend and how she felt that Michael was misunderstood by many. It was a fax message that led to the friendship between Michael and the Ma Family. During the Dangerous Tour in Taiwan in Sept 1993, Mrs Ma & her husband had trouble of getting tickets for their nine month old twin daughters for the concert as tickets were not allowed to be sold to their babies for safety concerns. Ma wouldnât settle for it, as it was going to be the last day of Michaelâs concert in Taiwan. She decided to give it a try & send a fax message to the hotel that Michael was staying in. She directly addresses the fax message to ask him to allow her twins to go to the concert. She didnât really expect that Michael would see it, next thing she knew was that Michael did read it & responded to it. He immediately sent down VIP passes for the family to be able to come to the concert & to meet him personally in his hotel room after the concert. When the family arrived at his Presidential Suite, Michael was already in his pajamas, ready to go to bed. They found him very kind and approachable, Ma recalled that he was so fascinated by the twins, he wanted to know everything about bringing up babies. The twin babies were crawling around in his room, at one point, one of the twins grabbed his CD player and started to bite it, Michael immediately went to pick up the baby and softly said to her, âDonât bite it, itâll hurt you.â Ma recalled that Michael was not yet a parent during that time but was very protective of children. 1st meeting When they said goodbye, Michael personally escorted them off to the elevator & promised to invite them to come and visit him at his home Neverland. Ma family never took his words seriously, but Michael meant it! During the 17 years of friendship Michael had with the Ma Family, the family had been able to visit 6 times as guests at his Neverland home, and even traveled with him to other parts of the world. Every time they said goodbye, he would cuddle them with words like âIâll always love youâ. He seemed just simply to want to be loved. Michael adored the twins, when he returned to Taiwan for the History tour in 1996, he invited the twins for an appearance to â Heal the world â song with him on stage. He even invited the family to follow on the History tour with him. The twins were also featured in âHeal the worldâ in Durban, South Africa & it was said to be his last concert ever. https://preview.redd.it/x8gynb873awa1.jpg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c004f4229e79cccbef3e39141b592e44809afb6 Michael had confided to Mrs. Ma things like his iconic sequins glove, was first used to hide his skin problem Vitiligo that first appeared on his hand & the glove had surprisingly become his signature trademark. Michael even referred to himself as Chinese, as according to Michael, his mother Katherine was of a quarter Chinese descent. Michael did often express his strong desire to perform in China. According to the the Taiwanese concert organizer Mr. Yu, during both his Dangerous and History Tour in Taiwan in the 90âs, Michael asked for his help to perform in China, though Yu did his best, During that time China was not yet ready to open up to Western pop performers. Ma had seen the very sincere side of Michael, pure and innocent, like a big kid, love surprises, magic, very compassionate, very trusting and very caring. She hoped that by sharing her story, the world would know the true nature of Michael. To that end, she offered tales of her own childhood romps at Jacksonâs Neverland Ranch, during which she often slept in Jacksonâs bedroom. âYou know, a group of us would all sleep in the same room,â she said. âIt was like, absolutely nothing more than justâŚan adult kind of wanting to be a kid again. Just, you know, enjoying the company of children. I grew up with him. I have spent many evenings there and many days there.â Noting that she could âonly speak for myself,â she still added âthat absolutely nothing went on.â Nicole Richie & Christopher Rogers, 1987 "My parents would never put me in hands that they thought were dangerous. Whenever people would find out I knew him, a gang of silly, dumb questions would follow & I would always end up having to defend someone I loved so much. When I was 5, my cousin Brian & I where OBSESSED with Micheal Jackson. We had dolls, sleeping bags, lunch boxes & OF COURSE the gloves. I was pretty convinced I was going to be him when I grew up, and nobody could tell me otherwise! Brian was older then me & found out at school MJ actually lived in the Valley, we lived in. Anyone from LA pretty much knew the house. So we wrote him letters and enclosed a bunch of pics, you remember the ones from school youâd write on the back, yeah well, lucky Micheal got about 25 of me!! Basically we told him we LOVED him & I told him I was a singer and dancer!!! We also asked him to come to our house & visit!! Our loca tia Carol (RIP) took us to his house and we rang the guard gate. His guard came out to us & took our letters. WE WERE SOOOOOOO HAPPY, we KNEW he would get em!! I honestly can say we were just happy enough to see his gate & meet his guard NEVER did we really expect what happened next. About 4 days later at 10:30 pm my mom got the call from Carol, Michael Jackson was HERE, in our apartment building, on her couch. I was 5 & anybody who knows a 5 year old also knows that itâs damn near impossible to wake em up!! The pic you see of us is him holding me, cause I wouldnât wake up, he insisted my parents take the pic so I would truly know he came!! A few days later I was going into the hospital for surgery & he called me. I couldnât BELIEVE I was talking to Micheal Jackson & that he actually had my number!! Over the next few years he would invite Brian & I to his house, to watch him shoot his videos & to his shows. https://preview.redd.it/rsvmzphv3awa1.jpg?width=450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a19442f3ad299c62f84b19970e711393f19f31f Itâs weird, when I was little, I didnât really grasp FAME, especially his FAME. All I knew was he was my friend & I think thatâs why he liked me. My friendship with him changed my life. It was a HUGE influence, it made me believe having a singer career was in arms reach. My neighborhood didnât support BIG DREAMS but his friendship gave me confidence & assurance that ANYTHING & EVERYTHING is possible, if you work hard & arenât scared to try. His generosity & kindness inspires me daily. Here was the biggest super star in the world taking time out to come to a broken down apartment building in Van Nuys CA to see his fans. Even as a tiny lil girl I could see his sadness & his loneliness. It was a part of him, I think his childhood, fame & money alienated him from most of the world. Thatâs why he loved us cause we didnât care about the BS!! We just had fun!! He was so goofy & silly, we would jump on his trampoline and raid his candy shop. Micheal was like Edward Scissorhands & Willy Wonka to me, SOOOOO AMAZING in the HEART but so misunderstood by most! I love him always for touching my life & showing me a different world then the one I grew up in. I hope those babies of his really grow up understanding that they did have the best daddy in the world. His heart & spirit are what made him the GREATEST and so RARE. All the good things ya heard about him were ALL TRUE!! I promise!! This photo was taken on one of the VERY BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!!! https://preview.redd.it/j4sbk75z3awa1.jpg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=213663251b3d80596212f04cb1f9b8c7d93a48f8 Michael called me, after a surgery I had & invited me to the set of his video for âThe Way You Make Me Feelâ. Hereâs what stood out about the day, the biggest superstar in the world made me feel like the superstar. In the middle of all his hectic-ness he would come see me, take pics with me & make sure I was good between takes!! At 5 yrs old I sat & watched him shoot, take after take in this warehouse in San Pedro CA. He introduced me to everyone, his sister Latoya was there, his co-star, that beautiful girl he was SO shy to kiss Tatiana. Even at that young age I was very aware of how gracious & kind he was with EVERYONE on set. Looking back now I remember he was sooooo excited that all of the extras were real ex bloods, crips, gang members from LA. I remember him being so excited about giving them a chance to shine & a new opportunity. We sat in his trailer, I remember telling him I wanted to be a singer when I grew up & gave him pics of me from my dance recital. I remember eating with him & him being the very first vegetarian I had ever met! I was like u donât eat meat??? I was so confused!! Lol. Man writing this, thinking about this day & all the rest of the times I spent with him makes me smile!! As a lil girl I never really grasped how famous he was, honestly I think thatâs why he loved hanging out with me! To me & all the other kids, he was just a fun, crazy, silly guy, who sang our most favorite songs. I love him for being the most honest, pure heart I have ever known for showing me video shoots, recording studios, & concerts, up close and personal, making my dream seem possible. I was there in it, seeing it happen, he brought me into a world I would have never known existed without him. A lil girl from Van Nuys CA. I canât even begin to count the ways he changed my life. He helped create my dream. Records like Homegirlz & Sadgirl I know he would be proud of, he was always ALWAYS about giving back!! I miss him everyday & canât believe he is gone.â Sky Ferreira âMy grandma worked with him for, like, 25 years & she became really close friends with him. I knew he was a singer & stuff but I think it was because he was always around that I never really thought much of it.â Speaking to Newsbeat, she said: âWe just became friends with him. When I was born I was raised around him, I always saw him. I had holidays with him and stuff like that. âIâve known Michael since I was born & he supported me about my singing and has helped my family very very much. He was probably the nicest & most giving person Iâve ever known. There will never be another Michael Jackson. Ever. I was so fortunate to actually know him. He is one of the biggest inspirations of music. Rest in peace Michael. Thank you for everything youâve ever done.â Kidada and Rashida Jones, daughters of Quincy Jones âMichael was like a member of my family, a surrogate son. He spent many hours with my daughter, Kidada who was a precocious child of 8 at the time. They adored each other and totally communicated despite the age difference (he was 20 then). Her mother once found a phone bill showing Kidada made 91 long-distance calls to Michael in a single month. She played the telephone like Herbie Hancock plays the keyboards.â âItâs mostly little things that excite him or stir his emotions,â says Jones. âChildlike things. He loves children a lot. Heâs been friends with my daughters for years. When he comes to my house, they think theyâre doing me a big favor by lending him to me so he can rehearse, because they think heâs their friend. Heâs just got a very pure type of enthusiasm about simple things.â And as for the snakes Jackson occasionally carts to work? âNow to me, thatâs the strange part,â Jones says laughing. âWhen the dude brings in a 15 foot python â thatâs what I canât take.â Malibu Magazine: Do you have any crazy stories about Michael Jackson? Rashida: I remember Michael would take us to the mall to get toys, which was the most exciting thing ever. But he was always wearing a surgical mask & I was so embarrassed to be seen with him! It just was not cool to be roaming around the mall with a dude wearing a surgical mask. But he was always so sweet to us & so fun, just like a big kidâ like a really big kid. I feel so horrible for him. I feel so sad for his soul. He came into this world with so much talent, but he just didnât know how to protect himself. Michael was exceedingly aware of the fact that he didnât have a childhood & he wanted to try to create a world in which he could try to make up for everything he had lost. MM: So, taking you guys shopping for toys was something he would do to make him feel in touch with his own youth? Rashida: "Yes, exactly.â Interview with Rashida Jones â Playboy, Oct. 2011 âMichael basically grew up with us, so I have a million memories of him. We were at each otherâs houses all the time,â the actress shares. âHe was definitely a little bit of an alien, for sure & when I was young, it felt as if he was my age, not 18 years older, but with just a little bit more pep.â âLater, weâd go out on the town together. He always wore those surgical masks. Once, my sister, Michael, Emmanuel Lewis and I got in a car with Super Soakers and went by a movie theater and supersoaked the hell out of people waiting in line. They had no idea theyâd just been supersoaked by the King of Pop.â Interview With Rashida Jones, CNN, 12/9/11 MORGAN: What was he like, Michael Jackson. JONES: Iâm not making any excuses. He was so wonderful. He was a big kid. He really was that. It wasnât â he was so innocent and just a big kid. And to me, at that age, he just was like me but taller and very much more talented. MORGAN: That guy just knew how to do it, didnât he? JONES: He did. But he was also had this like â this thing just bubbling over. He had no choice. I mean, when you sound like that and you dance like that, what choice do you have? You have to give it to everybody, you know.â https://preview.redd.it/t65gngg54awa1.jpg?width=234&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f97bdf4e665534432cb1fb62964ecb2ec9eb7aaf Sick children Dave Dave The story of Dave Dave (born David Rothenberg, but he changed his name to free himself of the memories of his father) was national news in the US in the early 1980s. In 1983, during a custody battle between his parents, his father doused Dave with kerosene and set him on fire while he was asleep. 90% of his body was burned. Michael Jackson heard of his story and befriended him. At Michael's funeral in 2009, Dave spoke about the emotional support that the star offered him through the years. https://preview.redd.it/oigkkfgf4awa1.jpg?width=578&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8fd057c65322064ba3020461ac0177e286fa0dd The friendship between Jackson and Dave never ceased. In his book, Dr. William B. Van Valin II mentions meeting Dave at Neverland in the early 2000s. According to this account, Jackson gave Dave a job as a kind of courier because no one else would employ him due to his condition. Ryan White Ryan White was a young boy from Kokomo, Indiana who became famous in the US due to his struggles as an HIV/AIDS patient. He was born in 1971. He was a hemophiliac & became infected with HIV from a contaminated blood treatment in the early â80s. He was diagnosed with AIDS on 12/17/84 His story became national news when at his school 117 parents & 50 teachers signed a petition for the banning of White from school because at the time many people believed that AIDS could be transmitted through everyday interactions. The Whites even had to face lawsuit threats & violence from the local community (once a bullet was shot through the Whitesâ living room window) and eventually they moved to another town, Cicero, where they were more welcome. At the time several celebrities befriended Ryan and showed themselves openly with him, trying to help to dismantle the stigma around Ryan & AIDS â the most prominent ones being Elton John and Michael Jackson. Jackson made several visits to the Whites & he also invited them to Neverland ranch. He also had many long phone calls with Ryan & gave him several gifts, including a red Mustang because it was Ryanâs favorite car. https://preview.redd.it/47kbl46k4awa1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a9bae75ce14b1e28c4ce37fd9c0af8196a1b38c Ryanâs mother Jeanne White said of their friendship: âJW: Michael was amazed that Ryan never talked about his illness. And he said he never wanted anybody to feel sorry for him. So I think they really had this good communication of respect for each otherâ. Q. You never had any hesitation about Ryan spending time with Michael Jackson? JW: No! ⌠Michael was always interested in what Ryan was doing. He loved kids & he didnât care what race you were, what color you were, what was your handicap, what was your disease â Michael just loved all children. Q. He did something incredibly special when he learned what Ryanâs favorite car was? JW: We had a call from a car dealer who said they had a car for Ryan. [Michael did it] just to see the joy in the kidâs face. [During the funeral] the car was sitting outside in the yard. Michael started the car and âMan in the Mirrorâ was playing. The little things made Michael so happy. You could see in his eyes & he was smiling from ear to ear & said, âI was the last person that Ryan was listening toâŚ?â & I said, âYesâ. Ryan just listened to it over & over again. Three days after the funeral Michael called me & asked me how I was doing. I said, âWhat made you and Ryan so close?â Michael said, ââŚNobody ever acts normal round me. Ryan knew how I wanted to be treated because thatâs how he wanted to be treated. I canât trust anyone because everyone wants something from meâ. Then he said, âI promised Ryan he could be in my next video, but now that he is gone I canât put him in my video. But could I do a video for him? I was like, âThatâs unbelievableâ. He did a video called Gone too soon, thatâs the memory thatâll stay foreverâ A phone call between Ryan & Michael that Ryanâs mother recorded unbeknownst to Jackson. Ryan Whiteâs mother about keeping contact with Jackson even after Ryanâs death. Amanda Porter At the age of 11, in 1986 Amanda Porter appeared on Good Morning America to talk about a rare genetic eye condition that had made her gradually lose her eyesight. On the program the interviewer asked her which celebrity she would like to meet & she said âMichael Jacksonâ. Jackson happened to watch the show & shortly after the interview he turned up at the hotel where Amandaâs family was staying with a lot of gifts to the girl. They became friends & the friendship lasted until the singerâs death in 2009. https://preview.redd.it/49fr6vno4awa1.jpg?width=581&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af71f1ef8427fe48fb1cdc976c18a75667b2695a Amandaâs mother Carole said: âMichael continued to show kindness & devotion to Amanda over the years, exchanging gifts, even after they both had children. Adults Chris Tucker Jackson was not only generous to kids or only to the parents of kids near him. Actor Chris Tucker reflected on the singerâs generosity in a 2015 interview with Jimmy Kimmel: âMichael was⌠he was the greatest entertainer ever and the biggest entertainer in the world, but he was the nicest guy in the world, man. He was just nice, man. I would go to Neverland & I would say I like something (and) he would give it to me. I said âMichael, I like that big screen TVâ, he was like âYou like it, Chris?â, I said âYeah, I like itâ, he said âYouâd love it?â, I said âI would love itâ. Next day I go home (and) Michael was sending a TV to my house. I said âMichael, thank youâ. I was like âMichael is nice and richâ.â Doug Lewis Doug Lewis worked on the set of Michael & Janet's 1995 video âScreamâ when he suffered an accident. The story in his own words: âAs predicted, crew call switched from 7am to 4pm & we worked throughout each night until 4-6am. In the final hours of the last night of shooting, we had moved to the âzenâ set. This was it, last day, last set, last series of shots. The art department had prepped the set with final touches before Michael was brought in to take his place on the zen podium in the center of the set. Michael surveyed the scene and commented on how beautiful the set looked. He was very relaxed & it was obvious he enjoyed sitting in the middle of this temporary temple. When Mark called out for a piece of the ceiling to be trimmed, I grabbed a 12-step (ladder), scrambled to the top and began sawing. In an unfortunate moment the portable saw kicked back & amputated a third of my left ring finger. Without word, I reached in my back pocket for my rag, wrapped my finger with it & stepped down off the ladder & exited the set. I passed Tom on the way out and showed him what happened. Tom escorted me to the edge of the stage and I laid down on the concrete. It wasnât long before an entire film crew of towering bodies was in a half circle looking down at me. Union guys chewing gum. 3am. Right? Suddenly the crowd parts & Michael appears & stands there for a moment, leaning over me, looking down. He looks at my left hand held in the air then he looks at me. Then just like that he is on his knees by my right side & he picks up my right hand & holds it in his. He looks me straight in the eye & tells me how sorry he was, he kept repeating how sorry he was & then he had tears in his eyes & he held my hand until the ambulance came and took me away. That next week, recovering at home, the gifts began arriving from Michael and Janet, tasteful and cool things like great soaps, a bathrobe, incense, a card. Anyway, thatâs my story. Michael Jackson held my hand, too. Michael, if you read this, thanks for caring.â The Grandmother of Chris Cantore Chris Cantore, describes an encounter between his grandparents & Michael Jackson on an airplane. âThis is crazy & I actually used to tell this on my radio show annually around Christmas time. It became a tradition. We used to call the segment âMichael Jackson Saved My Grandmaâ & itâs nuts especially when you look at his history & you look at his trajectory and all the controversy surrounding him, this story really touches the human spirit & really shows underneath all the paparazzi and craziness was a guy who really cares about human beings. It was a real testament to the situation where essentially my grandparents, it was in December, 1997 & my grandparents were flying in from JFK in New York to LAX to visit my family for Christmas. On the flight my grandmother gets sick & ends up passing out and falling in the aisle â they were sitting Coach. My grandfather is stressing out and Michael Jackson, it turns out, is sitting in first class. No one on the plane knew & he had first class reserved for himself, security entourage & people he traveled with. He hears about whatâs going on in coach and Michael Jackson gets out of his seat & runs back to help my grandmother and when she comes to heâs hovering over her (laughs). Seriously & heâs like âDo you need help?â and she comes to and my grandfatherâs there and essentially, he invites my grandparents into first class. So she can get proper attention & part of Michaelâs entourage includes medical support and what have you. So while my grandmother is kind of getting her lucidity back if you will, my grandfather ends up having a two hour dialogue with Michael Jackson 35,000 feet in the air. And whatâs insane about my grandfather, and this is why I love him so much, God rest his soul, is that he looked at Michael as if he couldnât care less if he were Michael Jackson or a plumber and he just engaged him in honest conversation and they talked about family, they talked about Michaelâs childhood and they talked about Italy which were my grandfatherâs three favorite things to talk about and they had this amazing dialogue. When they land, Michael says, âIâm not letting you guys figure out your wayâ because my parents at this point might have been alerted that something happened on the plane â everythingâs cool. Rather then having my grandparents go off on their own they basically said, âhey, you know what? Weâre going to take you to your destinationâ. So they get my grandmother a wheelchair & Michael Jackson is pushing my grandmother through the LAX Airport through all these backend crazy little caverns â theyâre not dealing with the public but word gets out that Michael Jacksonâs at LAX right when heâs pushing my grandmother through and trying to be secretive, not to get any attention. Granted you think theyâre trying to get publicity doing stuff like this, heâs doing his best to divert the paparazzi to help my grandparents so they end up doing three different limo changes just to divert the paparazzi with my grandmother in the wheelchair. They get in the limo, they hit the 405 on the way to the Valley to see my parents, again itâs Christmas time and Michael pops in his favorite movie at the time âMen in Blackâ so we have Michael Jackson and my grandparents watching âMen in Blackâ in his limo (laughing) on his way to my folks house. They show up to my parents and my mom opens the door and thereâs my grandfather, my grandmother and, hand to God dude, Michael Jackson carrying their bags. So they come in the house & Michael was totally enamored by my parentâs Christmas tree & the family spirit that he felt in the house & he couldnât stop talking about how he felt so much love & warmth in the house & he was enamored by the Christmas tree & just the spirit that was in the house & he was kind of sticking around & kind of looking around & not sure what to do & my momâs theory is he was kind of, just based on his, obviously career, he was waiting around like âhey, you guys want a picture or something?â for sentiment or what not but my mom was just so blown away by what happened they never even took a picture to document the event BUT...Michael Jackson actually signed a menu in 1st class for my parents when they were still in route on their way to LA & hold on I had my mom scan it and send it down to me and it says âTo Concetta De Lisi and Joseph De Lisi, please feel better, love you always, Michael Jackson.â https://preview.redd.it/yhnacqau4awa1.png?width=294&format=png&auto=webp&s=8800a2a4bd24f3be8290510509a462edde73276a Homeless people From the book Remember the Time by 2 bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard: âJavon: One night we were driving home from the Strip & there was this on-ramp for the freeway that we had to pass to get back to the house. We were stopped at a red light by this ramp & right off the road there was a homeless man & woman. They were arguing with each other about something. The man was sitting & the woman was standing with a sign; itâs the kind of thing you see all the time out here, people with signs that say âHomeless, Please Help.â Vegas is a hard town. You get caught up in gambling and all that? Itâll ruin you. Bill: Mr. Jackson saw these people and said, âWhy are these people out there?â âThose are homeless people, sir.â He was like, âReally? Wow.â He told Javon to pull over. We pulled over to the curb and we just watched for a minute. Mr. Jackson saw all the other cars passing by, and he asked, âWhy isnât anybody helping them? Why isnât anybody stopping?â Then he said to Javon, âCall the woman over to the car.â Javon rolled down his window, waved her over. When she got to the car, Mr. Jackson rolled his window down just a little bit & said, âWhatâs your name?â âAmanda,â she said. They talked for a bit. He wanted to know her story. He asked her where she was from, whereâs her family at. She said she used to be a dancer, a showgirl. Then I heard him reaching around in the backseat for something. I heard the sound of paper. He was pulling out money. He pulled out three $100 bills, gave them to her and said, âHere. Take this.â She was floored. She was almost crying saying, âThank you, thank you, thank you.â Javon: After he gave her the money, she backed up a few steps & I started to drive off. The guy that had been sitting near her got up, came over to her & tried to snatch the money away. She pulled back, but he kept trying to grab it from her & they started fighting again. She started yelling, âNo! This is mine!â Mr. Jackson saw that & said, âNo, no, no! Javon, stop the car. Pull back over.â I pulled back over, he leaned back out of the window & called the man over this time, saying, âDonât do that! Here, Iâve got something for you too.â He pulled out another $300 and gave it to the man. The lady started crying, like sheâd been saved. Bill: He told them to use the money for food. âGet something nourishing,â he said. âDonât get any drugs.â âNo, sir!â they said. âNo, sir!â They were both gushing with thank-yous & God-bless-yous when all of a sudden the man stopped and looked in the car window & said, âAre you Michael Jackson?â âNo. No, Iâm not.â I turned to the backseat. âAre you ready to go, sir?â âYeah, Iâm ready,â he said. And we pulled off. As we were driving, Mr. Jackson said, âAre there a lot of people like that in Vegas?â âYeah,â I said. âThere are parts of Vegas where a lot of homeless people live.â âReally? Can we go there?â I hesitated a moment. âYou want to go there tonight, sir? Tonight wouldnât be a good time.â âNo, no,â he said. âWe can go another day. I just want to see.â The bad part of Vegas is on the north side, Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, over by Cashman Field. When he mentioned going there, I was hoping heâd forget about it. Sometimes when he made unusual requests, things I knew werenât feasible or just werenât a good idea, Iâd wait a bit before following up, to see if heâd drop it. Sometimes he would. If he reminded me again, I knew he was very serious. This time, he remembered. A couple days later, he came to me and said, âWhen are we going to go to that side of town?â âWhat side of town is that, sir?â âWhere the homeless people are.â âWe can go there today.â âOk letâs go.â So we took him to the other side of town, about twenty minutes from the house. We headed north up Main Street, and all of these people were out. You could hear in his voice that he was shocked that all of these people out here were homeless. He couldnât believe it. âItâs just amazing,â he said. âThis country is so rich and these people are poor and living on the street.â He asked Javon to pull over, so we pulled over. I was a little antsy. I wasnât cool pulling over in a nice car with all these people around. We sat there on the side of the road for a bit. Then Mr. Jackson said, âI want to give them something.â I thought he meant he wanted to get out of the car. I said, âI donât think itâd be a good idea to go out there, sir.â He said, âNo, no, no. Iâll pass it out of the window.â He cracked the window & started waving people over. He had a fanny pack he was wearing. He opened it up & the whole thing was stuffed full of cash. They would come to the window & he would pass out a $100 bill through the crack in the window to each one. One thing I noticed was that he was trying to catch the attention of the women. He wanted to make sure they were the ones who got the money. He was like âCome here. No, no, no. You. You come here" A lot of men got money too but I could hear him singling the women out of the crowd, calling them forward. People started lining up outside his window, like it was an ATM. Javon: He gave away so much he ran out & he got upset with himself. He was saying he should have brought more. We started to see another side of him, his compassion for others & it was kind of amazing. There was no media out there no cameras. There was only a crack in the window, so no one could tell it was him. It was just something that he wanted to do. After that, we went and handed out food to the homeless a number of times. Heâd say âMe & the kids are not going to eat this. Letâs take this down and give it away" One time he wanted the kids to come with us and see it so we brought them along" Katherine Jackson had similar experiences: âWhat I love about Michael, he was such a humble person. I am not just saying it because heâs my son but he was one of the best people. Heâd seen somebody standing in the corner begging & heâd stop the car & just give them all the money in his pocket $300 or $400 and sometimes more.â (continues...)L submitted by FelicitySmoak_ to MJInnocent [link] [comments] |
2023.04.26 19:47 FelicitySmoak_ Was Michael Jackson really "grooming" these families? (continued)
| (cont.) Michael often befriended whole families, rather than just one individual of a family. This too was often misrepresented in the media and by the prosecution as âpreying on young boysâ and âgroomingâ them and their parents, but in reality this sheltered, isolated and often lonely star was simply looking for a connection with ânormal peopleâ and a normal family atmosphere and often it were not even the children of a family that he was the closest to. The Families that Michael befriended: Cascio family The Cascio family were very close to Jackson since the 1980s until the singerâs death. In his 2011 book entitled My Friend Michael: An Ordinary Friendship with an Extraordinary Man, Frank Cascio defended Jackson against the allegations and attested to the fact that the media misunderstood Jackson and his relationship with families like theirs. https://preview.redd.it/p5pv82frl9wa1.jpg?width=439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fc11e51ab68dd7298a9b9a89a3d0bcf41959b7a https://preview.redd.it/gnuu4269o9wa1.jpg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cca5f21eab112e6f8c20d1c1de03c9247d90e9c https://preview.redd.it/u9hwbh6vl9wa1.jpg?width=478&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f182c1dbf2f5038ecd0b3e49ffebee0aa3184ab This, by the way, also refutes the narrative that Jackson âdropped boysâ when they reached puberty. In actuality, for the most part he remained friends with the people he befriended as kids until he died. https://preview.redd.it/gpmlr32xl9wa1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b33a659a844e37105f9f42332ac850b965358cb Lottie Rose Lottie Rose was Michael Jacksonâs hairdresser between 1981-1994. âLottie Rose: He would allow me to bring my daughter with me. She would stay the nights and slept in Michaelâs bed. I would be working on him. At Neverland, because the drive was so long, I would stay and we would have our own little room. https://preview.redd.it/omauvtafq9wa1.jpg?width=604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aded87781b2748bb4d903185f7f68da2dd8c7d5a Her daughter: I met MJ when I was 11 years old⌠Just so happens, I was at my momâs hair salon on a Saturday when she received a phone call from Bill Bray, MJâs right hand man at the time. He told my mom that MJ liked her work (she did the hair for the soft sheen print advertisements) they called soft sheen and they referred them to her. My mom thought it was a joke until the limousine pulled up in front of the salon. She told me about MJ at the very last minute. I couldnât believe it and went crazy while Bill was pulling the limousine around to the back of the salon. Let me tell you, it was the best night ever for an 11 year old. Really nice guy, very friendly and the best part was that I practically had MJâs attention all to myself. He was not shy at all. In fact, I was very shy and afraid to meet him at first because he was MJ. However, he was very friendly and helped me to warm up to him. MJ and I talked mostly about me and my friends, what we did for fun, where we liked to go, what it was like to go to the mall, favorite stores, amusement parks, favorite rides, going to the beach, movies and more⌠He would also call me at home from time to time to chat on the phone. Michael loved to play practical jokes. He would tell my mom that muscles or bubbles was around, and then would rub her leg to make her think it was one of the animals. She would hop around and scream sometimes⌠was really, really funny!â William van Valin William Van Valin, a medical doctor and his family befriended Jackson in the early 2000s. In his 2012 book entitled Private Conversations in Neverland with Michael Jackson, he too portrays a lonely star who was simply looking for a normal friendship and a connection with ânormalâ, everyday people. In that case, out of the whole family it was the father, William, who spent most of the time with Jackson and was the closest to him â including sleeping in Jacksonâs bed, which, again, had nothing to do with sex. âIn Michaelâs room there was a couch with a King sized roll out bed in it. It was always in the rolled out position and it was always turned down like you were in a hotel. It faced the biggest TV Iâd ever seen at that time. We would put in a movie, order from the kitchen whatever we were hungry for and watch movies until late at night. If Michael fell asleep while we were watching a movie, I would turn the volume down slowly, unplug it (because if I used the controller it made a loud noise as it turned off ) and quietly leave the room and go home. I remember I did this one night and was tiptoeing to the door when I heard Michael say, âSee you tomorrow, Barney.â For whatever reason, it was very difficult for Michael to sleep. So, if he fell asleep I was always careful to let him stay that way. Sometimes heâd ask me to read something to him and Iâd find a book and just read it out loud then slip away when it seemed he was asleep.â https://preview.redd.it/9req4bqyl9wa1.jpg?width=207&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9dd86f4062e21acd76163a1911324432e6ad54d Stein family Damion Stein, who was a friend of Michael as a kid in the 1980s, talked about a similar experience in a 2005 documentary: âHe adopted my family. He started becoming more and more attached to my family as a whole, rather than just me individually. [âŚ] We opened up our family to him and he was kind of another member of the family. And he got to experience what a family atmosphere was about and I think that isnât something that he ever had himself.â Damion attests to the fact that Jackson was most attached to his mother, Glenda, and he spoke with her on the phone for hours on end. âHe needed someone to confide in. [âŚ] My dad would be waiting for my mom in bed, for her to come to bed and she would never come. You know, she would be speaking with him in depth on the phone, you know, late hours at night.â This made the father jealous and he started taping the conversations of his wife and Jackson. Hours of long phone conversations of Jackson and Glenda leaked many years ago, some of which can be found on YouTube. It should be noted that In the fashion of Martin Bashir, this documentary operated using innuendo and suggestive narration in order to raise suspicion about Jacksonâs relationship with male children, however it is the narration that gives Damionâs words a suggestive angle, while Damion never claimed any wrongdoing by Jackson. In actuality, Damion attests to the fact that what Jackson was looking for in these relationships was a family atmosphere and it was Damionâs mother who he was most attached to. For the record, the mother, Glenda Stein, stated on Facebook in September, 2011, that she has never believed that Jackson was a pedophile: âI never thought that Michael was a pedophile. He loved kids but not in that sick way. Leave his family alone.â The Culkins Kit Culkin describing Michael's relationship with ALL his kids including his daughters Quinn and Dakota. I kind of want to emphasize here that Kit Culkin really had a disliking for Michael. He was highly highly critical of him, pretty much blaming him for the reasons why Mac went on to emancipate himself from him later: which is why it's important to note that he 100% does not believe MJ was an abuser or that he touched any kids, let alone his own. He actually breaks two myths here: - Michael did not spend more time with his sons than his daughters
- His kids, including Mac, didn't actually spend that much time with Michael
Kit Culkin: " I should say here that Michael seemed to genuinely like all of my kids (as they did him) and quite equally so. I noticed, for I never found him in his visits or ours to be exclusionary or one to play favorites (holding one or some in higher esteem than the others: this sort of things). Indeed, he seemed ever to treat them all quite democratically and as though they were all of them (himself included) brothers and sisters of equal standing. I have heard it reported that Michael always wanted to play only with boys (just as boys usually only want to play with other boys, I suppose), but I never noticed this to be true. My six year old daughter Quinn (who, as her name would imply, was my fifth child) was always included in the activities that Michael would often plan and was always made to feel as though she was a part of the whole gang. As I say, Michael always treated my kids quite equally. And lest one think that Neverland had attractions for only pre-adolescents, let me note that there were things about the place that gave my older children delight as well: and some of them quite unexpected. My ever enigmatic and inscrutable daughter Dakota, who was just then entering her teen years and was never one to get much excited about most anything, had something to tell me about one morning over breakfast: "Dad, guess who woke me up this morning?" "I dunno. Who woke you up this morning?" "Janet Jackson!" (What could I possibly say to this?) https://preview.redd.it/jo2syviti9wa1.jpg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=078795db1770da0c9f2212e853718bafc9307e7f Macaulay's Esquire interview, February 2020 Jackson got in touch with Mack after Home Alone, and suddenly they were hanging out. His parents neither encouraged nor discouraged the friendship. The way Mack sees it, Michael had a similar childhood, which is to say that he didnât really have one, because his father was forcing fame upon him. So, at twenty-two years older than Mack, living in a place called Neverland, he felt the same age, in a way. Mack and Jackson used to prank call people. Jackson used to do these voices, real nerdyââHello, Iâd like to buy a refrigerator. How big are your refrigerators?â And Mack would laugh and laugh. The last time Mack saw him was in the menâs room at the Santa Barbara County Superior Courthouse in 2005. Mack was twenty-four. Michael was forty-six. Mack was testifying in Jacksonâs defense in People v. Michael Jackson, in which the singer was charged with intoxicating and molesting a thirteen-year-old boy who had cancer. He was eventually acquitted. There was a short recess during Mackâs testimony. Mack took a leak, and Michael came in. Jackson said, âWe better not talk. I donât want to influence your testimony.â They laughed a little at this. Michael Jackson, who had been more famous perhaps even than Macaulay Culkin when he was eight, ten, eleven years old, looked whipped. Exhausted. Drained. They hugged. âLook, Iâm gonna begin with the lineâitâs not a line, itâs the truth: He never did anything to me. I never saw him do anything. And especially at this flash point in time, Iâd have no reason to hold anything back. The guy has passed on. If anythingâIâm not gonna say it would be stylish or anything like that, but right now is a good time to speak up. And if I had something to speak up about, I would totally do it. But no, I never saw anything; he never did anything." Kieren Culkin In June 2003, Kieren Culkin reacted to the criticism against Jackson after Living with Michael Jackson was aired. Jackson told Martin Bashir that Macaulay Culkin, Kieren Culkin, and their sisters would sleep in his bed and go on hot air balloon flights with him. "Have you ever been in a balloon. It's fucking cool! When you're up you can see everything so clearly, it's exactly like flying, and you can go so low you can see the expressions on people's faces ... " Kieran has never talked about his relationship with Michael Jackson, or Martin Bashir's documentary, and he's not about to today. Through a series of cat'n'mouse questions, mostly unanswered, a nod here, a grimace there, this is what we glean: he's loyal, he'd like to defend his friend, but he can't because if he did, it would become a balloon-sized media event, flying around the world in a day. "I'd like to talk about it," he says, pulling his hair so high it's now vertical, "but it's kinda weird as I haven't spoken with Michael for over two years." He doubts if Martin Bashir will ever be granted an exclusive interview again. He saw journalistic deception, and he wasn't surprised. "I've just always been totally skeptical, obviously," he says, suddenly aging 10 years, suddenly becoming battle-hard Igby, **"**from a really young age. I read stuff all the time in newspapers that I know for a fact is bullshit. And people believe it all. So, I don't even read any of it anymore." https://preview.redd.it/waqi9672l9wa1.jpg?width=228&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=177101c196634a6376337b266a773143ea59d66c Debra Willis Jackson befriended her in 1998 when they met while she was working security at a toy store in NYC. They exchanged contact information after he learned she had a sick son. She saw him at least once every year and the last time she saw him was in March 2009. This interview was done by Larry Nimmer who was hired by Michael Jackson's defense team to shoot video of Michael's Neverland Ranch for the jury. MJ asked her to keep their friendship private. She was in California 3 days before the 2005 trial and MJ visited her every evening and had tea with her every evening. He was also very fond of Debraâs grandmother She was on the witness list for Katherine Jackson's 2013 lawsuit against AEG. There are some interesting tidbits in the interview: - Michael showed up at her hotel wearing a disguise as an old man.
- MJ told her he wanted to turn Neverland into a children's hospital
- During the 2005 accusation, Michael told her that Gavin (his accuser) came to him one night and told him that he was confused about his sexuality. MJ told him that he needed to have that conversation with his parents. (Which sounds a lot like a set up to me. A suspicious Michael was too smart to fall for that)
- She says Conrad Murray is a liar and abused his power.
- MJ said his father was a good man, he was just too strict.
- Last time they talked on the phone was June 23, 2009, he invited her to CA. Her bags were packed by the door when she saw the announcement on the news about MJ's passing.
- MJ left something for his mother with her. I personally think he told her if something ever happens to me give my mom this or tell my mom this.
- She got in touch with Trent Jackson who was Katherine's nephew/caretaker. Trent wanted to know what it was but MJ told her to give it directly to his mom but she was never able to get in touch with Katherine.
- She spoke to Joe Jackson directly, he invited her to the house. She made it through the gate but Michael Amir (Michael Jackson's former personal assistant) and a bodyguard told her she was not allowed.
- Trent calls her 5 minutes after the ordeal and tells her "I don't know who in the hell you think you are and what in the hell are you doing" He said Joe doesn't live here so he does not make the rules. Trent strongly stated he made the rules.
- Joe called her back and apologized and told her it would not happen again. She refused to go back because Trent was there.
- MJ did not trust Conrad at all and did not want him there, but he had no choice.
- She and MJ were having a conversation and Conrad walked in and was trying to push MJ to take medication. She asked him what it was and he said Conrad did not disclose it to him but told him it was for his own good. She found out later it was Ambien which caused his chest to burn.
- She told him to fire Conrad but MJ told her that he had to listen and do whatever they tell him to do because if he didn't they would ruin him.
- MJ told her that he had a crush on his Chef Kai Chase and thought she was beautiful. She told him to go for it but he was very shy.
- She said he was a true gentleman and called her his soul friend. He gave her gifts and always wanted to pay for things.
- She ends the interview by leaving a message to Katherine: She sends her condolences about Joe and tells her that he was a good man. MJ gave her specific instructions and made her promise to give it to only his mother just in case anything ever happened to him in March 2009. She is literally begging to get into contact with Katherine to fulfill her promise. She says Katherine can bring her bodyguards and lawyers she just wants to fulfill the promise she made to MJ.
Looking at a fuller picture, does it really sound like he was grooming young boys and their families or that he was an extremely lonely person who was very generous with his wealth? *Segments taken from MJ allegations & The Invisible Children: Michael Jacksonâs Female Kid Friends submitted by FelicitySmoak_ to MJInnocent [link] [comments] |
