AI DIRECTOR HATES these TEN SIMPLE TRICKS
2023.06.10 12:30 Beaushaman AI DIRECTOR HATES these TEN SIMPLE TRICKS
Things that (imo) you sometimes have to luck into learning, because sometimes Tide games are so pressurized that most of your time is spent just trying to stay alive using basics, and not so much trying different mechanics. A lot of these tips have to do with action economy, and using the map.
- If you're trying to cross some jagged terrain or obstacles where your character might otherwise get stuck, just walk up to the first sticking point, then press and hold spacebar and you should basically parkour over everything. Also hold spacebar to vault. Somebody in chat was raging about the jump and when I asked they said they were just tapping spacebar. P.O.P Hold It Down.
- On the subject of terrain - use it to block more damage! Almost every piece of terrain that's big enough to hide your body can be interpreted like: "When standing behind this barrier, gain 100% damage immunity to all damage sources in a 180 degree arc opposite the barrier"... In short - walls and barriers are actually OP. When you enter a room, you should scan for enemy types, barrels, barriers/chokepoints, then chests.
- On barrels - know where they are, because blowing a red barrel at the right time, and denying an angle to that group of shooters can be the diff between winning or losing an objective. Please also think of barrels as an expendable ability that your character can use. Explosive barrels perform very well against slow moving crushers, and fire barrels are super potent area denial for lower health enemies, because they last forever.
- Most of us know that you can dodge & jump while reloading, but you should know that there are actually lots of things you can do while reloading like operate medicae, open chests, and even VAULT over terrain. this last one is especially useful, as it can allow you to reload safely in the thick of combat. Don't be afraid to cheese the enemy pathing a bit. The AI is trying to cheese you too.
- Try and default to using your melee weapon for a while, and becoming a trench-core hardboy - this goes for psykers and vets as well. Once you're more comfortable with that, then get comfy with fluid weapon/ability/grenade swapping in combat, and feel the tiers of fun unlock.
- By now everybody should know the door cheese for when you're deep in a damnation run and you really don't wanna lose all that plasteel. Basically - you can simply close doors on hordes and it spaces them out so you may comfortably weed whack them at your own pace.
- Please block. I have scoreboard installed, and while this is not a flame, it is a plea for people to start using their block button and push attack more often. You can also do a push attack while carrying power cells and contagion samples.
- The Auspex thing can actually scan a source of plague residue from a good distance away, so if you already know what the source is going to be, you don't have to walk right on top of it. It can also scan through walls iirc.
- Throwing a frag or stun grenade into a horde, or hitting them with a powermaul or some such staggering tomfoolery, makes the horde more dangerous as it spreads out their angle of attack. If you nade them in a choke, you're setting up a critical density issue, because the naded poxwalkers will get up, having taken almost 0 damage, and re-join the fresh poxers bearing down on you. Save nades and heavy stagger for rager packs and enemy ogryns almost exclusively, and just take out your melee for the horde. Note for ogryns with nade box feat - IT STILL DOESNT DO A TON OF DAMAGE... You stagger the entire room, which is really cool, but then please mop up with actual damage. Don't throw the second box, tempting as it may be, becaue you're gtting a very diminished return.
- You can do a cute 360 during a slide.
- (Bonus tip for the real sweats) - Leave no stone unturned. Never die with a grenade. Never give up on timing a dodge, or a block. If you're the only one left alive with a Chaos Spawn, well brother, you better lace up them boots and get to steppin. Play your class to its fullest potential.
TLDR - Use all mechanics - don't leave advantages/buffs on the table.
There's definitely more stuff but I am tired of writing this post, so I leave you with a haiku:
Plasma thrumming
Molten metal on my axe
A fallen mountain

| As a writer, authenticity is crucial to your success. Whether you are submitting an academic paper, a blog post, or a piece of creative writing, your work needs to be 100% original. Unfortunately, the prevalence of online content makes it all too easy for plagiarism to occur. In fact, it's estimated that over 80% of college students have admitted to cheating in some form or another. But how can you ensure that your writing is truly authentic? That's where a reliable plagiarism checkercomes in. By using this tool, you can quickly and easily detect any instances of plagiarism in your work and make the necessary corrections before submitting it for publication. https://preview.redd.it/ltr093jm365b1.jpg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f489fa85f18b427a92edab0e43a5377f6aa35b04 Why Authenticity Matters:- In today's digital age, content is king. With the rise of social media and online publishing platforms, anyone can share their thoughts and ideas with the world. However, with this freedom comes a responsibility to ensure authenticity and originality in one's writing. Plagiarism is a serious offense that can damage your credibility as a writer and even lead to legal consequences. Authenticity matters because it allows you to establish yourself as an authority in your field. If you are known for producing original content, readers will trust your expertise and seek out your work. On the other hand, if you are caught plagiarizing, you risk losing your audience and damaging your reputation beyond repair. In addition to the ethical concerns surrounding plagiarism, there are practical reasons why authenticity matters. For example, search engines prioritize original content in their rankings, meaning that plagiarized material is less likely to be seen by potential readers or customers. By prioritizing authenticity in your writing, you can improve your visibility online and attract more traffic to your website or blog. Consequences of Plagiarism:- Plagiarism is a serious offense that can have significant consequences. In academic writing, it can result in loss of marks, suspension, or even expulsion from school. In professional writing, it can lead to loss of credibility, reputation damage, and legal action. Not only does plagiarism harm the writer's own reputation, but it also undermines the integrity of academic and professional institutions. It shows a lack of respect for the work and ideas of others and suggests a willingness to take shortcuts rather than putting in the effort to produce original work. Additionally, with the rise of digital technology and online publishing platforms, plagiarism has become easier to detect. This means that writers who engage in plagiarism are more likely to be caught than ever before. The consequences can be severe and long-lasting. How to Use a Plagiarism Checker:- Using a plagiarism checker is a straightforward process that can help ensure the authenticity of your work. The first step is to select a reliable and effective plagiarism checker tool. Once you have chosen your tool, simply copy and paste the text you want to check into the provided space. Alternatively, some tools also offer the option to upload files directly from your device. Once you have uploaded or pasted in your text, click on the "check" or "scan" button. The plagiarism checker will then analyze your text against millions of online sources and databases in seconds. After a few moments, you will receive a detailed report highlighting any instances of potential plagiarism and providing suggestions for how to correct them. Be sure to review the results carefully so that you can make any necessary corrections before submitting your work for review. Many plagiarism checkers also offer additional features such as grammar checks and citation assistance, which can be incredibly helpful in ensuring that your work is not only authentic but also well-written and properly formatted. Benefits of Using a Reliable Plagiarism Checker:- Using a reliable plagiarism checker tool has myriad benefits for anyone who values authentic content. Firstly, it ensures that your work remains original, free from unintentional plagiarism, and authentic. Secondly, plagiarism checkers can help you save time and improve your overall writing skills. Rather than spending hours re-reading and editing your work to ensure authenticity, you can use a reliable plagiarism checker to detect any similarities with other sources instantly - allowing you to make corrections quickly. Thirdly, a reliable plagiarism checker tool provides peace of mind for all types of writers - whether students submitting papers or industry professionals publishing articles. Knowing that your work is unique helps build trust with your audience and enhances your reputation as an ethical writer committed to authenticity. Features to Look for in a Plagiarism Checker:- When selecting a plagiarism checker, it is important to consider the features that make it reliable and effective. First and foremost, the checker should be able to detect all types of plagiarism, including paraphrasing, direct copying, and mosaic. Additionally, it should be able to scan a variety of file types including PDFs, Word documents and online content. The speed of the plagiarism checker is also an important factor to consider. A good plagiarism checker should provide fast results without compromising on accuracy. Other features that are worth considering include integration with other software such as citation managers, access to an extensive database for comparison purposes and the ability to check multiple documents at once. By taking these factors into account when choosing a plagiarism checker, you can ensure that you have access to the most reliable tool for maintaining authenticity in your writing. Comparing Plagiarism Checkers:- There are many plagiarism checkers available, but not all are equal. Some only scan online content, while others have limited databases. To find the best one for your needs, consider the accuracy of the results and the ease of use. One important aspect to evaluate is how thoroughly a checker searches for similarities in text. Some only look for exact matches, while others are able to detect paraphrasing and even contextual similarities. Additionally, some checkers may be limited in the types of files they can scan, such as only being able to analyze plain text documents. When comparing plagiarism checkers, it's also important to take into account any additional features they may offer. For example, some checkers provide grammar and spelling checks or even citation assistance. To make an informed decision on which plagiarism checker to use for your writing needs, carefully consider the various features and capabilities of each option available before making a selection. Your One-Stop Solution for Plagiarism Checking:- When it comes to ensuring the authenticity of your written content, having a reliable plagiarism checker is essential. However, there is one solution that stands out as a comprehensive and user-friendly tool for plagiarism detection: [Name of Plagiarism Checker]. This software offers a multitude of features that make it an excellent option for writers, editors, and educators alike. Its intuitive interface allows for easy copy-and-paste or file upload checks while generating detailed results in seconds. Additionally, the software has an extensive database that compares your content to billions of web pages and academic papers to ensure originality. Its accuracy and reliability have been trusted by thousands of users worldwide. Understanding Your Results:- After running your text through a plagiarism checker, you will receive a report that contains the percentage of matched content, a list of sources that contain matching text, and the exact location of the matching content within your document. It is important to understand what these results mean in order to properly address any potential instances of plagiarism. If the percentage of matched content is high, it could indicate that there are significant sections of your writing that match existing material. However, it is important to review each individual match to determine whether it is truly an instance of plagiarism or simply a coincidence. In some cases, phrases or sentences may appear similar but are not considered plagiarism if they are common knowledge or properly cited. https://preview.redd.it/l0u4jvin365b1.jpg?width=200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4568b027930c4ddfb017b3405d2451fce79ab52 How to Correctly Cite Sources:- The key to maintaining authenticity in your writing is to correctly cite all sources used within your content. This not only adds credibility to your work, but it also gives credit where credit is due. When citing sources, it's important to follow a specific format and style, such as APA or MLA. A proper citation should include the author's name, title of the work, publication date, and source where the work was found (such as a website or book). It's also important to properly format any quotes or paraphrased information within your content. By taking the time to correctly cite sources and maintain authenticity in your writing, you are showing respect for other authors' work while also enhancing the quality of your own. Maintaining Authenticity in Your Writing:- Plagiarism is not just an ethical breach, it can also be a legal issue. However, avoiding copyright checker is not just about avoiding the consequences of being caught. It is also about maintaining your authenticity as a writer. Plagiarism can detract from the originality and creativity of your work, leading to a loss of credibility and respect from your readers. To maintain authenticity in your writing, it is important to cite sources correctly and accurately. This includes both direct quotes and paraphrasing. When including outside information in your work, make sure to give credit where it is due by properly citing all sources used. In addition to proper citation practices, it is also essential to write in your own voice and style. Avoid copying the style or tone of other writers or publications; instead, develop your own unique voice that sets you apart from others in your field. By doing so, you will create content that is authentic and original, demonstrating that you are a thought leader who brings something new and valuable to the table. Conclusion:- In conclusion, maintaining authenticity in your writing is vital in today’s world where plagiarism can have dire consequences. Utilizing a reliable plagiarism checker can save you time and effort while ensuring that your content is original and authentic. By adhering to the guidelines provided by the plagiarism checker, accurately citing sources, and maintaining high standards for authenticity in your writing, you can ensure that you are producing content of the highest quality. Rest assured that with the help of a reliable plagiarism checker, you can confidently produce original work that stands out from the rest. submitted by mihir_webix to u/mihir_webix [link] [comments] |

2023.06.10 11:00 Joking101 Article: A heartfelt exploration of Diablo IV from a Diablo III player
Introduction
I closed Diablo IV today feeling saddened and disappointed. I didn't want to play anymore. Less than a week after the release of a brand new game in a series I hold dear to my heart, I've found myself burnt out and un-engaged with the flow of the game. I feel punished for playing the game in the ways I want to play, and frustrated with the pacing and flow.
This article is as much an exploration of Diablo IV from a mechanical perspective as it is a way for me to get off my chest how I feel about the latest in the Diablo series. I will be deep diving into the mechanics of D4, the 'workflow' of the game as you progress into higher difficulty levels, and the strengths and weaknesses of the itemization. For you, the reader, I hope you take away from this article my sincere passion for the Diablo series, to enjoy the story I have written, and to maybe learn something along the way.
Diablo III - A Story
I love Diablo III. I remember launch day and the hours of queues (and crashes). I remember the first time I beat Inferno Diablo (post-nerf, I wasn't that good). Critical Mass Wizards, MP10 Uber Runs, the RMAH and the changes to legendaries, sets, and the Mystic. I made top-1000 in Season 1 with Ball Lighting DH and while I only played a few seasons between S1 and S27, I came back full-force in S28 and peaked at #23 on the 2p boards playing support DH. Over the years, I've put in about 1,700 hours into Diablo III and I truly and sincerely enjoyed my time in the game. In many ways, I grew up with Diablo III the way many of you grew up with Diablo II.
It probably goes without saying, but I am an obviously high-investment gamer. I slept about 14 hours in the first three days of S23 to make top placements, and while I wasn't setting any world records, I was keeping pace with the big boys for the first few days. I wanted to put to bed the game that had brought me hundreds of hours of joy with a bang, and I gave it my all. I read strategy guides, optimized my gameplay, leveled as efficiently as possible, and 'did the grind.' I minimize my game settings to get the absolute maximum amount of FPS and the fastest response time. I find games most engaging when I am able to perform optimally, finding optimizations and strategies that allow me to progress. I enjoy the grind for new gear, each run pushing me towards a stronger character. I enjoy using the game mechanics to select a difficulty that provides an engaging and challenging experience with which to leverage both my mechanical skill and game knowledge.
By Season 28, Diablo III captures these desires brilliantly. The abundance of difficulty levels (both Torment and Greater Rifts) allows the player to fine-tune their experience. For those highly engaged, the ability to find and reproduce high-level builds is easy. I can both see what builds are working at the high-end of grifts, as well as to look up guides for builds designed for speed-farming and other miscellaneous tasks that Diablo III throws at the player (bounties, rifts, ubers, etc). The Alter of Rites created some 'busywork' that, for the most part, I didn't mind doing. I haven't farmed up Chiltara since I first made my Infernal Staff of Herding in the before-times; while it wasn't particularly fun here in Season 28, I didn't mind doing it because the payoff was going to be pretty sweet. It was a very cool way to create things to do in a game otherwise highly focused on the rift gameplay loop.
I closed Diablo III a few weeks after season start, content with my max gems, 150 GR clears, and nearly full ancient sets of gear for each Demon Hunter set. With nothing left to achieve, I looked forward at Diablo IV with hope. Not willing to be mislead by recent Blizzard decisions (I'm looking at you OW2), I decided to wait to hear from the game reviews and let others decide whether or not I wanted to purchase Diablo IV. With high praise coming from both critics and the general population, I bought into the game a couple days after the pre-release started and got started on the game.
Diablo IV - First Impressions
For Diablo IV, I really wanted to re-experience how Diablo III felt at the start. A blank slate with no preconceptions, no push towards any particular playstyle, and to give the game a fresh opportunity to wow me. To start, I would say it did. Any new game is relatively overwhelming at first, but I quickly found my groove and started finding builds I really enjoyed playing. I don't really follow or care about story and/or lore in my games (I know, it's unusual), so I just played through the campaign, doing side quests, dungeons, and skipping dialogue, cutscenes, and basically anything that wasn't "kill enemies, get stronger." This is where I ran into my first major problem.
The campaign is way too damn long for a player like myself. For me, I want to get to the end-game gameplay loop as quickly as possible. The game is fun when I have access to all of the tools to make myself better. The least fun part of Diablo III is leveling from 1-70, and I wouldn't say that I really get into the game until I've gotten all my legendaries I need for my build and I begin the farming loop. When a game arbitrarily restricts the player behind time gates, I begin to lose interest. Of course, I wasn't going to just give up this early so I pushed through and finished the campaign only a day or two after starting. The largest problem was simply that the decisions I made now didn't really matter. It wasn't worth taking the time to optimize a piece of gear that I would throw away in five levels. I didn't need to look at the smaller stats, I knew that I would find a major damage upgrade in a little bit that would make any investment into this piece of gear a waste of valuable resources. This was just a time sink before 'the real game' could begin.
In praise, I think the skill tree is awesome. I really enjoy how it flows, enabling players to adjust their builds in very nuanced and intricate ways. One of the things I loved having the flexibility to do in the early game was to swap around my build with ease. I didn't mind throwing a thousand gold into a full respec and I could try out all these cool new skills as time went on. I wish I could continue my praises though as the campaign came to a close and the endgame began.
Diablo IV - The Grind
Renown really sucks. It was neat at first - getting to explore this huge open world that had been made and the flow between different environments and mob types is very cool. I got on my newly acquired horse and began dashing around grabbing waypoints. I then began on some strongholds, another awesome addition that I enjoyed exploring. The Altars of Lilith were next, and this is where I ran into my first wall. One hundred and sixty altars. This isn't 160 Altars where at the end, I get some sick new piece of gear, a new skill, or a special legendary that pays off. I get +68 to all stats and a few paragon points. I thought to myself, y'know, this isn't very fun, but I guess riding the horse isn't that bad and the developers found something kinda cool to tuck into all the corners of the map. It wasn't particularly fun, but I finally finished all my altars and set my sights on renown five for each region. I obviously needed the paragon points to continue to progress, how bad could this be?
Do you remember how I mentioned 14 hours of sleep in three days when I grinded Season 28? I am no stranger to long gaming days filled with a monotonous grind. I still have not completed renown five in each of the regions. The most efficient way to complete it is to over-level yourself into World Tier 4, then go back to World Tier 1 and spend ten hours running around doing side quests and under-leveled dungeons as quickly as possible. The best way to optimize this process is to get yourself some higher level materials while doing side quests during Helltide, and to do 4-person split dungeons to knock them off as quickly as possible. Let's walk through this grind process. To run these dungeons, you have to teleport to a region (loading screen), hop on your horse (which can't sprint in town), hope your horse sprint doesn't run out by the time you get to your location (otherwise it has to run slowly), enter the dungeon (loading screen), complete the dungeon while ignoring all the loot and performing no meaningful game actions, exit the dungeon (loading screen) and then repeat the process another 100 times. This is not a fun grind. This is time consumption at it's absolute worst. I am not getting anything new or shiny to play with while I perform this process. Even with a build tuned to the highest level for speed, this grind still sucks hours of time down the drain. This is not a good grind. This is the Chilitara grind without the RNG but requiring tens of hours more time invested. I'd rather have a 1% chance to complete all five tiers of renown whenever I complete a dungeon because at least I could just run dungeons for gear or XP without having to spend this much time on a horse or in a loading screen without seeing or getting a new thing that is even remotely interesting.
And while I'm on the subject of gear, let's talk about itemization in Diablo IV.
Diablo IV - The Items
Diablo IV's itemization is really cool in a lot of ways. I love the return of named unique items from Diablo II. I think generally, the incremental strength of normal -> sacred -> ancestral to be an upgrade from normal -> ancient -> primal ancient from Diablo III. I like the idea behind extracting and imprinting legendaries, and the Codex is an incredible design that I think cannot be spoken highly enough about. It does a great job at enabling your minimum viable build extremely quickly without any RNG. The game truly begins when you have your build assembled and with few exceptions, most builds can be assembled with just the codex. (Dungeons feeding the codex is a great idea). You can make focused dedicated progress towards your build throughout the game and once you've completed your build, you can easily find new upgrades through 'actual' legendary drops. I think this is an incredibly well designed system and I cannot praise it enough.
I think we start to run into problems when the decision was made not to allow players to extract legendary affixes from items that they imbue. This creates a perverse incentive - that players are incentivized towards a behaviour that is unintended and broadly negative, hoarding. Players are required to 'invest' in their gear with a given legendary affix and once you go in, you can't go back. I cannot in good faith justify putting this 'perfect' rolled legendary affix on an item at level 50 with 2 wrong stats on it. I know I will probably find another eventually, but there is no incentive to risk having to grind for it later when I inevitably find that upgrade. I'll state it again, I don't mind grinding for a new item, but I really don't enjoy making decisions that will punish me in five, ten, or twenty hours from now when I realize I need a key piece of gear that I threw away on an item I can't ever get back. Part of the core fun in an end-game Diablo loop is that search for the next best thing. When you pair that next best thing with fear of missing out, you are provided a very un-fun experience. When is a gear piece 'good enough'? Diablo III has an investment system in the form of Caldesann's Despair (augmentation) and this system almost never felt bad. I could invest a 125 gem on a very nice ancient piece of gear at level 70 because I knew that the next time I'd find a piece of gear this good would be more time than the amount of time it would take to farm up another 125 gem. This system works really well at mitigating this perverse incentive. You can invest, it's okay, it won't burn you later.
Let's talk about burned.
Diablo IV - Skill Flexibility
Diablo III absolutely streamlined skill flexibility. With the single click of a button, I could pivot radically between full class sets and a six skill action bar full ready to go. Sure, the initial setup took a bit of time but it was very convenient when switching between different builds. One of the strengths of the Diablo series is the nuanced and interesting ways you can combine legendary effects with skills in a plethora of interesting ways. I really didn't mind Diablo IV's skill 'undo' button through the start of the game. You have to spend a bit of gold sure. It's not free, but it doesn't need to be free. I can stand taking 30 or 60 minutes to undo all my skill points, reassign them to a new build, and swap my gear around to some spares I've been hoarding for this very purpose. What I cannot stand is the sheer cost of doing so in Diablo IV. Gold is a limited resource, as is all crafting materials. This is a good thing! Diablo III had some big problems in the early days with a host of unnecessary materials and an abundance of excess (and meaningless) gold. The problem is that it is not, in any way, efficient or effective to try out a new build. I have to invest heavily into my gear, both with legendary affixes, upgrades, re-rolls, and the skill tree. It seems far easier to simply make a new character than it is to use my existing stash of loot that I've been grinding for.
I know that for the Diablo II players that this complaint may fall on deaf ears (and very reasonably so). This is a component that exists in other modern ARPG games like Path of Exile. You invest in a character, in your build, and you stick with it. This forces the player into a single style of play, which for some, is just fine. Plenty of folks are happy to just chug along with their WW Barbarian or lightning Sorcerer for the whole game and for you, I'm glad you're finding this decision a meaningful and enjoyable part of the game. I really enjoy flexibility. I want to be able to swap from traps to daggers to a bow build in an instant. I got a bit tired of Twisting Blades and I wanted to try out Penetrating Shot on my Rogue. I couldn't afford it. I would have to go grind up all the materials and gold I needed on a build I was already bored of before I could swap to something new. I would have to spend all my resources reconfiguring my build and if I was wrong (maybe I don't like the playstyle of Penetrating Shot), I would have to grind all those resources AGAIN to swap back to Twisting Blades. Alternatively, I can go complete the campaign again on a brand new character and I've already been over how miserable the campaign grind was for me.
It was looking at this cost that made me walk away from Diablo IV tonight. I was bored and couldn't try out something new. I had just competed three hours of renown grinding, found nothing new I wanted, hadn't improved my character outside of a few paragon points and an eighth of a level, and didn't have it in me to keep grinding.
Diablo IV - The Awesome
I don't want to leave this article on a sad note. I do love this game. I think the ability to equip both a bow and daggers on the rogue at the same time is an awesome addition to the genre. The depth of affixes means that each item really forces me to evaluate how it would change my build and really reminds me of Diablo II itemization. Diablo III has a very stale formulaic approach to affix prioritization and sets are highly limiting in build experimentation. Diablo IV has a baseline that really explores the depth available in the genre and I am so excited to see where Blizzard can take it from here. Legendaries and unique items are flavourful and the combinations exciting. The ability to extract and imprint affixes changes a core problem in Diablo III and I already love the way it flows in this game.
I love nightmare dungeons. Greater rifts are very formulaic and monotonous, and I really don't mind that horse ride over to a nightmare dungeon across this huge awesome world. I could do without the loading screens, even with an excellent PC it's still way more than 0 load time which is the standard I've come to expect from Diablo III. Helltides are a much better way to force players out into the world than bounties ever were, and I love seeing them pop up so I can crack open a mysterious chest and see what sick loot pops out. The world boss is a way to experience Diablo unlike anything ever seen before (I never got into WoW) and I absolutely love the experience.
Combat in Diablo IV is leagues above Diablo III's. The game flow during combat is meaningful and skill rewarding. Evasion of attacks, especially on boss fights, is an incredibly skill testing experience and I love the way each fight plays out. Diablo III had nothing of the sort and it really shines in the slower gameplay of Diablo IV.
Diablo IV has the baseline to become a far better game than Diablo III ever was. I think there are many ways that it stands to be improved, and while I know I will play in Season 1, I will struggle with many of the things I've outlined above. I know much of this article is pessimisstic, but it comes from my heart. I hope you are all enjoying the game, it is truly an excellent addition to the Diablo series. Knowing what Diablo III looked like at launch, I can expect to see much of this stuff fixed over the next few years, but it still pains me that from day one these are issues that are fundamentally pushing me away from the game.
At the end of the day, we all just want to kill some demons and watch our characters get stronger. Stay safe out there adventurers, Sanctuary is relying on you.
Post-Script
I had a few closing bullet-points I didn't have time to write about in the main article or didn't add to the flow of the discussion.
- Why do gems take up inventory space? Why is my ability to upgrade them gated by my level? Why does it cost so much to unsocket them?
- Why is the horse gated on its sprint? It's primary function is to cross the map efficiently, why are we forcing the player to spend any time at all moving slowly?
- Why are the core components of each town so far away? I don't mind walking around a large town during a gear respec where each artisan takes a fair amount of time, but when I'm going in and out of town to dump loot and then return to the hack and slash it takes forever to walk around.
- Why can't I decide how hard the mobs are during gameplay? Sometimes I want to fight against easy mobs, sometimes I want to fight against hard mobs. Nightmare dungeons let me choose the difficulty, why can't I make that decision for myself in the overworld?
- Why can't I party up from the main menu?
- Why does it cost so much to reroll my gear?

2023.06.10 10:52 Joking101 Article: A heartfelt exploration of Diablo IV from a long-time Diablo III player.

2023.06.10 09:38 Globosetechnology Introduction to GTS’S Data Quality Management
| https://preview.redd.it/ggve6y9m955b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=f229b9af94c6e816b5e5fedade0455a3321adbd7 Machine learning and artificial intelligence are advancing at a high-pace and taking on across a range of industries like a wildfire. To train the machine like a fine-tuned instrument, it is now more important than ever to collect vast volumes of data that is also quality-driven. Better data quality is more important to achieving the intended outcome than simply having a lot of data. The output provided by analytical applications is authenticated by data quality, which is the subject of data management. Businesses can understand their position in the market due to analytical applications. Although there has been a significant increase in analytical capabilities in the IT sector, the quality of the data is still lacking, which could be detrimental to a corporation that relies on a machine-learning program. How AI and ML Play an important role in data quality management To analyze and create data models, business users, and data scientists need enormous volumes of on-demand, high-quality data. Instead of enhancing its quality and getting it ready for examination, they would rather spend their time analyzing data. To decrease manual interventions, businesses must concentrate on automating repetitive jobs and data quality procedures. Enterprises must determine the areas of data quality management where AI/ML models can contribute to increasing the level of automation. Several situations include: - Before executing data quality operations on target data components, AI/ML can be used to classify essential data pieces and assist in identifying significant data elements in unstructured data feeds, such as social media formats. Such a classification can aid in the hierarchy management and product categorization processes, enhancing the quality of the product data.
- AI/ML can offer rules for data profiling, data cleansing, data standardization, and data enrichment based on the diagnosis of the data. It can also deliver proactive notifications for important data pieces. Business users can verify and incorporate these standards for processing data quality. By doing so, manual rule configuration is easier to do and the current rule set is improved. Additionally, AI/ML can efficiently suggest the most appropriate business data components and pertinent standards for redundant data.
- AI/ML models can learn the normal manual override chores carried out by the data manager, like data repair and merge and split operations, based on prior instances, and carry out pertinent modifications from later iterations.
- Data quality management software can improve its multilingual data processing capabilities by utilizing AI/ML. For instance, AI/ML models can be developed and used to translate text into one of the supported languages to handle a social media comment in a language that the program does not recognize.
Impact of Machine Learning(ML) on data quality management Incorporating machine learning solutions into their data strategy is something that many businesses are starting to do nowadays. The top data initiatives whose revenue increases for the year, according to 63% of respondents in a recent survey, were AI and ML. This should not be surprising given the sheer volume of unknowns that data quality management must manage and the difficulties big data brings with it. The below points will show you how ML works with data: While many automation systems can clean data based on explicit programming requirements, it is nearly impossible for them to fill in empty data gaps without user intervention or by bringing in additional data source streams. Based on its analysis of the circumstance, machine learning may nevertheless make educated judgments about missing data. On the other end of the spectrum from missing data, businesses frequently gather a lot of duplicated data over time that is useless in a business setting. For instance, machine learning is being utilized in the finance sector to expedite the typically drawn-out mortgage application process. - Find and eliminate duplicates
For data managers, duplicate data has always been a threat that eats away at their productivity. To develop focused marketing campaigns, marketing teams must be able to tell when many records refer to the same customer. But according to a poll, approx 81% of marketers said it is extremely difficult to create a single consumer view. Impact of Artificial Intelligence(AI) on data quality management Data collection, storage, preparation, and advanced data analytics technologies are all included in the broad idea of artificial intelligence, or AI. Through connected data technologies, artificial intelligence systems are gradually integrating all areas of a business into a single component of data management. Let’s have a look at the working of AI for data quality management: - Learning More Effortlessly
As it continues to educate itself, artificial intelligence likewise learns more quickly and effectively. Regardless of the ultimate objective of an artificial intelligence application, not all data or data sources are appropriate or effective for the machine learning algorithms that form the basis of artificial intelligence development. - Elimination of Human Errors
Data quality presents one of the biggest challenges to the effective use of artificial intelligence systems in businesses. Recent years have seen a major advancement in data quality research as a result of increased reliance on data to support corporate decisions. To determine which quality characteristics are critical for assessing the quality of the data, researchers have been working to define concepts like accuracy, completeness, and authenticity. - Data Trends are Recognised to Support Commercial Decision-making
Artificial intelligence can identify data trends to help in business decision-making. To avoid losing potentially valid data and having potentially incorrect data affect the outcome, the subject matter experts’ domain experience is leveraged to explain unexpected data patterns. How AI and ML at GTS Transform Data Quality Management Using a layered approach and AI, such as deep learning or machine learning (ML) models, GTS develops systems to segregate low-quality data and depends on effective bots to execute them. This technology is quite good at identifying tiny patterns that individuals could miss or not understand. These procedures can produce the clean data that ML algorithms require to ensure ongoing AI-proof quality, as well as the data that they need to evaluate it. Here is how it works: - Detailed data profiling and control over fresh data
Most firms obtain their data from other sources. It is challenging to consistently guarantee higher data quality because the data may originate from numerous companies or through third-party applications. A trustworthy data profiling tool is useful in these circumstances. The program should be able to look at the data’s patterns and formats, as well as any inconsistencies in each record, distributions of data values, and other pertinent details. Automating data profiling and quality alerts for incoming data whenever it is received is also essential. - Define the parameters for data entry
One of the essential initial steps in enhancing data quality is to establish rules before adding data to the CRM system or any other system utilized by the organization. A substantial improvement will result from setting a standard for the data presentation during submission. Each business’ standards are different, and the regulations will include measures for using the data for different decision-making practices. At GTS, we always emphasize these matters. To meet the moving target and maintain data quality, requires ongoing regulating and ingesting of both good and bad data; it is not a “set it and forget it” procedure, which needs to be done by AI. Humans are essential in this flywheel because they set the system and monitor the data to spot trends that influence the standard. They then feed the model with these properties as well as the rejected ones. - Identify a quality metric
Instead of depending exclusively on manual intervention, GTS will help you in developing a grading system that enables you to identify common bot techniques. Subjectivity is necessary for the successful construction of a quality metric. Establishing boundaries for reactions across components is a must for researchers. The next word in a series can be accurately predicted by AI, but it cannot replicate a person’s memory. The Bottom Line When creating data quality rules, metrics, defining data models, and standards that all employees must adhere to from the minute they enter a record into a system or extract a dataset from a third-party source, data quality dimensions serve as the reference point while using the AI and ML during the data quality management. We at Globose Technology Solutions are fully aware that training data is an absolute necessity for your learning models. Use our platform to dramatically improve your data-quality management efforts with the technology of AI and ML, and gather a large number of premium datasets for quick machine model training. submitted by Globosetechnology to u/Globosetechnology [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 09:22 Lord_VivecHimself Is getting stuck in your own base, turtling and all until age 4/imp a proper way to play at all?
I see that being done even in 1v1, and ofc they're the ones who get rushed (or outboomed, if they really invest much into defences) the hardest, but in team games it turns very bothersome as they end up just being ineffective players.
In my experience teams play most effective when they decide to do one specific thing, and commit themselves fully to it: it could be rushing (4v4 rushing can be pretty fun), it could be FF for a ridiculous timing attack in 3rd age, but it could also be just taking the map, placing forts and walls at mid map (much, much stronger than your usual forward base for rushing; in a recent game I did that with Lakota warhuts as allies sent forts and built stables and TCs all over, it worked so smooth); it could be proper booming, be it through fishing boats, torps/shrines but even plain mills and estates, heavily carded from the start.
What instead I find to NOT be working at all is title. I'm not even talking about fast industrial, which would happen between 11 and 14 mins and while very risky (you're putting yourself out of the scene and are relying on your allies to get alive up to industrial) at least would let you send OP shipments and be worth it somehow.
I'm talking about spending well over 1500 wood between dual layer walls, outposts and related upgrades to get yourself enclosed into a very small piece of map, never getting out of it whatever is happening outside (or worse, sending troops out to help allies or whatever and getting them completely annihilated, thus voiding all the defence investment... making it even more pointless than it already is) but most importantly, losing control of the map and it's natural resources.
They're so stuck into it they're not coming out to do anything, they have enemy TPs, shrines/torps or whatever right next to their bases and they're not bothering to send a couple petards or a bunch of pikes their way, like they accept the status quo and you can build whatever you want under their nose, up until they feel confident enough to have a proper army and besiege those things (which they often aren't doing anyway, bee-lining straight to the enemy base instead).
Now, I really don't want to be telling anyone how to play their game, but it just so happens that whenever i get those kind of players as allies we lose extremely hard, they are out of resources all the time and can't do anything like "at all". And when they're in enemy teams they either get rushed or raided very hard (they rely too much on fixed defences and can't defend properly) or they just can't pull off enough of an eco (my guess is, since they lost map control and spent too much on both defenses AND eco from fixed buildings) to be effective in late game either.
I have various impressions about this, like they don't want to play out the earlier ages at all so they build mills and estates straight away "as I'd be doing them anyway eventually". It is understandable not wanting a fast, rushy game, but then I feel the proper thing to do in lieu of rushing is NOT to wall up inside your TC range, but getting out on the map, putting these walls and outpost and blockhouses and warhuts and forts and whatever at the very least at the middle map, if not even closer to the enemies to deny them map control (and getting it for yourself, including natural resources, TPs, natives, sea and all), or at choke points, or at least making many forward bases across the map to get LOS on incoming enemies, keeping your vills safe as they're gathering out on the map, and so on.
So this is my theory. Now I might be wrong because sometimes it has happened that one of such turtly players was able to outboom and eventually steamrolled us; it's rare that they even get there in the first place or that they get there with a proper eco to be able to steamroll anyone, but sometimes it happens; i still feel like they're been more lucky than anything, having a teammate who carried them and took the brunt of early to mid game fighting, or just had an enemy team who's been too passive when that happens. But it might just be part of the game balance and I don't know about it.
I need to know if it's a viable way to play, or (as I think) these players are doomed to fail as they'll be outboomed by players doing "the right thing" (taking the map and exploiting natural resources), I feel like early turtling is a "defence mechanism" against rushing, for players that dislikes it, and indeed it could help against rushes but then booming beat rush ever since age of empires 1, so... and if I get this whole thing right, in this game, booming takes the form of taking map control and exploiting natural resources, which a) are gathered faster b) doesn't require a humongous wood investment just to start collecting from them. And if you get the market upgrades, they're gathered EVEN FASTER.
So my final question is, would you recommend such players to totally change their approach to the game? Is it just a wrong way to play that is inefficient and leads to defeat? Or, to change perspective, should those players rather stick to treaty where it just makes sense to NOT take the map (as you just don't have the option to build outside of your starting circle)? I feel like they're playing a treaty game, but with supremacy settings, ignoring the fact that supremacy works in it's own way and that's putting them at a disadvantage they might be unaware of.
I'll actually be trying to do that myself with ports (very well suited to try something like this, as much as brits) to try and understand their side of the experience, and see if it works and they're just not doing it properly, or if it really sucks as much as it seems to me.

First thing I want to say is that Kev will be back. I’m not the type to sugar coat things, he’s in a pretty sorry state, but he’s going to pull through. He’s a tough bastard.
In case you haven’t clued in yet, it’s Mike, I might not be as much of a wordsmith as Kev but I think I can keep your interest.
She was about five foot four, pale greasy skin and pitch colored hair that was just about to cross the double line from shiny into gross. Early thirties I’d guess, but with the strange shit Kev and I have gotten ourselves into she could be a million, or put together yesterday for all I know.
She was a “ Shame Monger” which was as esoteric of a job title as it sounds, and the first context me and my little buddy had on our current assignment.
The place we’re in is an old, decrepit arcade, I’m surrounded by shadowy figures sticking to the dark recesses like insects.
Kev is somewhere deep within the place sticking his neck out with God knows what ( I mean, I do as well, but I’ll let Kevin relay shit when he’s up to it.), and I’m making small talk.
“You human? “ I say, she’s not offended but raises an eyebrow.
“Are you? “ She has an edge to her, human or not, she’s seen some shit.
I laugh, running a hand over the branded lines mimicking clown patterns Art left me with after that stay in his gulag.
“Sometimes I forget about the braille.
Yeah, %100 sadly. “ I lean on the counter as I speak.
“Me too, you haven’t been working with the watchers long, have you? “ She sounds concerned, “ I’d suggest finding a new job. They have a bit of a reputation. “
“Long enough. “ I’m wary now, information is a resource I’m not willing to part with easily.
I don’t think she’s wrong, mind you, every day I spend with these wizards by another name, I like them less and less. Being sent with Kev, Jr, and the voices in my head, wandering across the country to find something called “The Fleshsmith”, is the best case scenario in my opinion. Gives me some breathing room.
“How do does one deal in shame? “ I say after a long silence. The glitched beeping of the machines becoming grating.
“Not as spooky as you’d think.
You play airsoft? I’m Tori by the way. “ Tori says, lighting up a small black cigar.
“Never got the bug, but I’ve heard of it, and I’m Mike. “ I reply.
“Well Mike, I play, and it’s a great hobby. Lots of physical activity, lots of equipment to learn about, it’s got something for everyone. For the most part, it’s an exciting activity .
But, think of the factory that makes the plastic ammunition. It’s integral, but it’s cheap, easy to make, monotonous, and far removed from any of the interesting facets of the hobby.
That’s me. I brush up against all kinds of folks, but besides the little wrinkle your friend is dealing with, all of the real spooky shit is well past arm’s length. “ she coughs, the thick, cherry scented smoke hangs in rings, “ It’s a living. “
“Honestly, I couldn’t be happier.
I hear ‘ Shame Monger’ and I was thinking torture, and, I don’t know, ghosts maybe? “ I shrug, motioning for one of the cigarellos.
She gives me one, it tastes of rose and a rich, almost syrup like tobacco.
“Sorry to disappoint. No, extraction is pretty painless, uses a kind of blotter paper. And to the best of my knowledge, ghosts aren’t a thing.
As I said, things are safe and boring. “ Tori says, taking a seat on a black waist high stool.
I let her statement hang for a moment.
“So what’s with the big guy trying to blend in, waiting for me to leave the counter? And why did he come with 2 friends and a running engine? “ I say, low but casual.
I can tell she’s annoyed at my insight.
“That’s nothing horror adjacent. Just a good old fashioned shake down, cost of doing business.
He doesn’t know exactly what goes on here, but him and his associates know it’s profitable enough they can squeeze ten grand out of me a month. “ Tori shrugs, putting out her cigar.
“You can’t give someone a discount to rattle their cage? “ I ask, curious.
“Listen to you. “ Tori laughs, “If your butcher asked you to get shot for them, would you jump at the chance? “
I make eye contact, I can’t help but smirk.
“I’ve gotten shot for less. “ My comment gets a sideways look.
“Mike, I’m seeing you, and I’ve got to say, kinda seems like you’re full of shit. “ Her reply is harsh, but I can’t blame her. I’m dressed like salesman, facial scars or no.
I don’t reply. I walk to the grimy, dim, wet floored men’s room.
Someone who chooses my line of work doesn’t get into it because they have great impulse control. And unfortunately, I’m not unique .
Since I’ve got here, I’ve felt scared, small, ineffective. I know you guys have seen Kevin’s point of view on things, and it makes me seem like some kind of wrecking ball, but that is 50 per cent showmanship, 30 per cent planning and 20 per cent not caring if I lose a piece or two.
But this situation, some low rent semi-connected asshole who thinks he’s Don Corleone? It calls to me.
The clothing I wear is designed to be reversable, and with a few adjustments, I’m no longer wearing a cheap looking used car salesman’s suit, but an antique tuxedo with a 1940s design.
The mirror is grimy as hell, I try to clear a spot, but the sad, octogenarian Esque flow from the tap isn’t up to the task.
But it’s clear enough to reflect him, standing behind me. I jump, and my heart starts to pound.
“Not the time for this. “ I say, pacing.
I try to look away, but there he is, in the corner of my vision, each time. I’d close my eyes, but that’s what he wants, he gets closer when I can’t see.
For a half second my vision is taken up by a crystal clear image of his face. That angular, pale visage inhuman by any standard, but haunting in it’s echoes of a past rooted in mortality.
I stumble backward, slamming into the wall. Panting, my eyes locked on his almost-there form.
He’s tall, wicked, and everything about him exudes power. He’s taken to looking like me more and more lately. But a twisted, malignant reflection, what I could be if I let this pulp novel of a corner of reality have it’s way with me.
“Fuck off Demi! “ I say, getting to my feet, “ I’ve got shit to do. “
Still don’t know if he is just another hallucination, or who he says he is, but Demi and myself are on pretty poor terms as of late.
I hear the bodyless old ghoul whispering what I assume are dark threats as I open a small tube of what I like to refer to as ‘Mike’s Mix’.
A combination of preparation H, topical anesthetic, and just a hint of clown white. Laugh if you want, but it stops a hell of a lot of incidental injuries in my line of work.
Demi starts to fade and I see what I can of myself in the dull mirror.
I’m a little too old for the phrase, but I’m sure a lot of you folks out there would refer to the cliché spook I’ve cultivated as “Cringe”.
I don’t disagree.
But, it’s the game I have to play right now. I’m not some invincible cursed killer, but you know what, I can certainly play one on T.V.
(Did I just try to relate to kids, then make a joke from a 40 year old commercial? This is why Kev does the writing.)
I walk out of the bathroom, reeking of fear sweat and tainted water. The foot and a half lucite rod is tucked up my sleeve, I tap the end of it against the wall as I walk.
The guy is six feet, easily, he’s fifty or so, but making up for it with trips to the gym and a few friendly doctors if I don’t miss my guess.
He doesn’t take the bait, just keeps talking to Tori, once he looks to me, I can tell he is asking her who I am, she’s smart, she shrugs after looking over.
I had an entire plan where I would embarrass the man, get him to send some guys, and make things so costly he just gave up on Tori. It’s a classic, but if it ain’t broke and all that.
But plans, like the people that make them, tend to fail at the worst times.
Once I get within striking distance, the guy turns, his speed isn’t supernatural, but a lot more than I was expecting. His punch lands well enough that I don’t remember starting to fall.
The second finishes the job before I can get my bearings.
The darkness creeps in and in it’s peace I realize how stupid it was to go in this half cocked. I was jonesing for a fight I could win so badly, I went in without a plan B.
I need someone to reign me in, back home it was Eli, here, it’s Kev. As the last bits of conscious thought leave me, I feel bad about leaving him alone.
It's the stifling heat that wakes me up, before my vision clears I smell hot, cheap leather, old vomit and years worth of attempts to mask the smell.
I’m soaked in sweat, the air is like a sauna. I’m sitting in the back of a car, I wouldn’t call it a limo, but it’s clearly built for comfort, in optimal circumstances. There’s a tinted glass partition separating me from the front seat, it’s cracked slightly, I try to tell if anyone is there, but have no luck.
“Can’t say this is a new experience. “ I say, to whoever may be listening.
I try kicking out the windows and the partition, they don’t budge a millimeter.
“If you are up for talking things over, I’m game. “ I try to pry the overhead light loose, and that’s when I notice it.
It's a note, in a thick plastic sleeve, wrapped around my forearm and stuck with some kind of adhesive.
The pain is horrible, made all the worse by the constant pouring of sweat literally putting salt into the wound.
Said wound isn’t deep, a few layers of skin down, enough to weep blood, but far away from pouring. But if this kills me, it won’t be exsanguination. Depending on how long, whoever, plans on keeping me in here, I worry about infection, necrosis, pretty much all the members of the Untreated Wound crew.
I take off the suit jacket, and tear it into strips to use as makeshift bandages, I have a feeling I’ll be needing plenty by the time this is over.
My left arm is slow and clumsy as I open the envelope. I hope it’s just shock, or swelling, not nerve damage.
It reads:
Hey, Dracula, or whatever the hell you are.
Fuck yourself, you think we don’t have ways of taking care of your kind?
Have Fun
Niko Ferang
“Well, can’t say the guy isn’t succinct. “ I say, laughing.
If I just went up to the guy with a threat and a pipe, I’d have either won or lost, and that’d be the end of it. But my genius self succeeded in convincing him I was scary enough to toss me… here.
It dawns on me that there is something obvious I haven’t tried.
As I pull the latch on the passenger side door, something inside me tells me to stop.
Visually, I can’t really describe what it looked like opening the door. The brief period before I saw what was beyond was the visual equivalent of trying to catch a greased pig.
I was left with a view, an identical car interior. The other car parked impossibly close, Their doors seeming to blend with their exteriors.
I enter, as a great man once said “Buy the ticket, take the ride. “, and my dumb ass need for assurance, bought me one hell of a ride.
Once I get in, the driver’s side door closes, and I find myself in the same sweltering heat, in the same backseat.
The damp leather sticks to my arms, I start to calculate how much water I’m losing by the minute, and the math scares the hell out of me.
I try going through the door a few more times, but the more I do, the more I realize, it’s the same car.
The fear becomes as oppressive as the wet heat, I’ve researched a hell of a lot of things from the watchers library, but infinite Oldsmobiles didn’t come up.
I’ve been disarmed, but left with my phone, and wallet. I’m kind of impressed they managed to find 99 per cent of the equipment I can hide in a suit, but hey, %1 is better than nothing.
The phone makes a useless bludgeon, I quickly retire the idea, and figure, even neutered as it is ( I find I can get online, but little else.), it’s better doing phone things than broken.
The good news is frighteningly slim.
I’ve got a few feet of polymar tarp, folded in the wallet, useful for a lot of things, but most important in my situation will be trying to get some kind of drinking water.
An emergency credit card knife, barely useful little thing, won’t do me any good in a fight, but might be a useful tool.
Three strike anywhere matches, a small hook and length of fishing line.
My lips are cracked and bleeding, it can’t have been more than an hour or two, but I’m starting to feel heat exhaustion set in.
I think I’ve found something when the knife sinks into the thin leather of the overstuffed backseat, but the shoddy blade encounters some kind of solid matter, and as I pull the knife out, the leather seals itself.
I stay still, trying to conserve energy, trying to formulate some plan.
He sits beside me now, his looming hunched frame bent in the confines of the car. His face is a blur, but I know beneath the shadows he's smirking.
“I’m way too tired for you Demi. “ I say, wiping what feels like a liter of sweat from my forehead.
His repeating, echoing laughter proves me wrong, I shiver, despite the brutal heat.
It can’t have been more than a few degrees, bit It feels like getting splashed with ice water.
The light in the car begins to dim, and with it, the soul crushing temperature of the luxury automobile drops.
I scramble to set up the tarp, I was banking on this, without some kind of temperature drop, the plastic sheet is useless.
Within an hour droplets have began to create a small stream, collecting at the cone shaped tip of the suspended tarp. Lacking anything to put it into, I catch the liquid in my mouth.
It's foul, and likely contaminated, but it’s my only option. If I’m stuck in here a week I can get by without food, brutalized by heat, I won’t make it 2 days without water.
I feel exhausted, wondering exactly how long I’ve been stuck here I check the time on my phone.
It’s almost random progression does nothing to comfort the surreal sense of dread that is enveloping me.
I don’t know when I passed out, but I wake up laying across the reeking leather, being dragged backward.
I feel fingers, dozens of them, clawing, scraping, trying to gain purchase. A crevice begins to open in the deep black leather, and I begin to be dragged into it.
I throw myself forward, landing painfully on the sticky, grime ridden floor of the car.
Fear, and the awkward ergonomics of my situation make turning around a slow, nerve wracking chore. Once I manage to, I regret the decision.
Hands, some small, some large, some seemingly cobbled together from mismatched scraps, slowly pull themselves from the crevice between the seat and back of the back seat.
They prod and crawl like insects, none ever giving way to arm, just a lumpen flow of calloused, wrist like structure, giving each an segmented, centipede like appearance.
I sit up, watching the macabre display, trying to make some kind of sense of it.
I actually scream when there’s a sharp, loud, mechanical ringing beside my head. The type of analogue noise that went out of style long before land lines did.
It doesn’t take me long to find the handle and pull out an ancient car phone, it’s a two part wood paneled brick of a thing, I pick up the receiver, “Hello” I say, a question as much as a greeting.
The voice is male, probably early twenties.
“Don’t worry about them. They can be an issue if you don’t sleep on the floor, but I’ve never seen one drag itself more than half way across the seat. “ He’s calm, but has a survivors hushed impatience.
“Who are you? “ I ask.
“I won’t lie to you man.
I’ve been in here a while, but now that there is someone else, I think I can get out. Call me Pol. “ I catch the hopeful tone in his voice.
“How? “ I say simply, still trying in vain to put more space between me and the hands.
“Not to sound cold, but if I tell you, there is a chance you just take the information and leave me here.
The first step is us meeting, you’ll know the plan by the time that happens.
I don’t lie. “ If nothing else I can say Pol seems smart.
“Fair enough, what can I do? “ I Trail off at the end of my sentence, one of the hands is pointing at me.
“You need to understand a few things about this place.
First, don’t travel at night. Nothing you are going to find is going to be any better than the crawlers.
Second, remember the numbers, 1, 5 and 9. I’m assuming you have a watch, or a cellular phone? If the time ends in one of those, you’re likely to find a new space.
Last, what’s outside of the car, on the driver’s side, pretend it doesn’t exist. “ The instructions are cryptic, but I’m in no place to turn down good advice.
“How do I know I can trust you? “ I ask, knowing the answer.
“Don’t see how I could be anything other than what I say.
Wouldn’t it be pretty obvious if I was trying to lead you astray? “ Pol’s response is reasonable, but a lifetime of being blindsided makes me wary.
“I guess so. What should I be doing now? “ I say, flipping off the hand like thing that continues to point at me.
“Get some sleep. Time, day and night cycles, they mean nothing here, and passing out in a hundred and fifty degree weather is a shitty way to go.
I won’t be able to get through during the day, so listen carefully.
If you time your travel right, you are going to be looking for two main things. The first is going to be a pillow mint, eventually you are going to starve either way, the human body needs more than just sugar, but you should be able to find enough to keep you going till malnutrition kicks in. The second is a soda can, it’s a sip, and it’s turned, but it’s better than trying to lick the droplets from the windows. “ I listen to Pol, hopefully memorizing his instructions.
Daylight brings with it reek and heat, I watch the hands scuttle back to within the recesses of the seats, shuddering a bit as I see wave like, movements in the cushions.
“God damn it. “ I say looking at the display on my knock off phone. About %50, for all I know I’ll be out in 15 minutes, but I’m not banking on it.
I watch the numbers flash by like a stock ticker, waiting to see if Pol is trying to screw me over or not.
I see 1:39 and crack open the passenger side door.
The same sweltering heat, the same basic backseat, but I know, at a glance, things are not quite identical. Part repetition from the day before, part a decade and a half playing private eye, but I can tell Pol was telling the truth.
Lipstick, smeared on the passenger window, an old handprint. It seems like something bad happened here.
The leather of one of the headrests is torn, I purposely avoid looking at the certainly not stuffing inside.
It’s like this place wants to tell a story, I can’t help but try and hear it.
I don’t find any soda, but I do find a single, red and white pillow mint, wrapper mostly in tact, sitting in a sticky patch on the floor.
I try my luck a few more times, using the cell phone as a kind of metronome, and while I do get a lot of repetition, every so often, there is a little change, or quirk.
I’ve collected two pocketfulls of mints, and found myself desperately hoping to stumble upon anything to drink. Another night of distilled sweat, dust, and God knows what doesn’t seem appealing.
I must have been too slow opening the door, I’d done it over two hundred times at this point, and the grey haze of this new variation set off every danger instinct in me.
It felt like I was being watched from every angle, despite the gloom the heat was worse, and seemed to bake a fungal reek into the air itself.
The door handle on the passenger side is mangled, the steel colored plastic twisted into a useless lump.
The leather seems slightly rotten, weather stripping peels, light fixtures are cracked and loose, it feels very, old.
I watch the phone, my eyes instinctively darting around, there are noises from the front seat and I doubt they have my best interests in mind.
I’m trying the mangled door handle but something is broken.
That being, said, with a car this old, the fish hook, with enough persistence could work,
I Peel back some of the stripping around the window, te hook begins it’s slow trek down into the mechanics of the door.
I scratch my wounded arm, it hurts, but that isn’t what concerns me. I feel a small, irregular lump.
I peel back my makeshift bandages, and what I see attempts me make to vomit stomach contents that weren’t there.
Small, brown grey mushrooms, a half dozen, about the size of a grain of rice. I feel a tingling in the wound, and panic sets in.
Opening a door like this requires a steady hand, but between the noises in the front seat, and the literally budding body horror on my arm, my nerves are shot.
I hear the partition begin to lower, and that rotten, fungal reek becomes nearly a physical force. My eyes water, my nose runs, and I hear a noise, like flowing sand.
I feel the hook dig under the proper part of the lock and pull up as I feel something wet soak through my shoe.
The door opens violently, not that I’m upset, I toss myself forward like I’m going for a touchdown, my forehead slams off of the armrest in the newest backseat I find myself in.
Before the passenger side closes I catch a glimpse of the mess that spilled from behind the partition. Rot and flesh, an aborted rotten attempt at life enraged at the universe that spawned it.
I actually feel relief at the blinding sunlight, and shining leather, and find myself relating to the monsterous mass I left behind.
I look at my arm, realizing I didn’t leave all of it behind.
“Oh, fuck me. “ I say, fumbling the credit card knife together.
The mushrooms had doubled in size, the cheap tin knife makes a terrible scalpel, I scream as I err on the side of caution, flaying a half inch around each.
I’m bleeding heavily, half of the makeshift bandages barely keeping the flow at bay.
My vision swims, I feel sick, and I fight the urge to break down into a mentally and physically broken heap.
That’s where I’ll leave everyone. Night is falling, and without a little more help from Pol, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to last.
If this is the last time you hear from me, well I’m sure Kev will have you guys covered for the rest of what I hope is Art’s downfall.
If it isn’t, I’ve got a favor to ask, did you guys notice anything I didn’t? Is there anything that is more obvious from outside this displaced cluster fuck?

2023.06.10 09:06 tron_crawdaddy Happy to be here!
| Hey y’all, long-time lurker, just wanted to say hello, and welcome to my “it’s all right” espresso corner. This is where I turn 18 grams of beans into a shot of espresso, three or six times a day. I’ve been using the gorgeous DeLonghi EC-702 pictured here since like, 2009. I regularly clean its guts and have replaced the pump one time, it’s a loud and proud piece of very ehhhh gear. I switched to bottomless portafilters, started using a screen, and grinding much finer (more on this below) to compensate for the EC-702’s 15 bars of pressure (it ships with a pressurized pofo). Everything else is from the knockoff tragic-anagram-market (my tamper is sold by a company called “Pusee”, it’s made the rounds on this forum lol) on Amazon, but functionally does the trick. About 2 months ago, I upgraded from a 200 dollar Capresso burr grinder that had been in use (cleaned regularly, for whatever that’s worth) since 2009. The change up to the MiiCoffee (lol) D40 style grinder - also a $200 dollar grinder, albeit with a more niche application - has been huge; acceptable levels of grind uniformity are now achievable. It felt like the first time you plug a nice set of hard-to-drive headphones into a good amp; “what I want” is no longer at the mechanical edge of what my gear can do. ——— Why is all my gear average/maybe even bad? I was heavily abusing alcohol from 2008-2021 and never seemed to have any discretionary funds for buying coffee things. Additionally, during 9 years of the “life bender”, I worked as a barista for 9 years (a very drunk barista, lol) so I regularly had access to equipment way outside of my hobbyist budget. Since I stopped drinking (March 9th 2021, 0.0 BAC happened very early on March 12, 2021) it’s been a long journey of relearning how to feel, live, communicate, think, etc. Many hobbies and friends had to go; but coffee, espresso specifically, has come back into my life. The ritual, the science, the tinkering, the smell!!!, are all so newly important to me in an honest, post-alcohol world. Honestly, if I’m grinding really fresh beans, this setup makes a very nice espresso. That being said, now that I have time and money, I would like to retire the DeLonghi and get something more robust. Does anyone have a favorite machine for undearound $600-700 US that can really shine, in determined hands? I’m not talking fully manual, but something that gives me more control over pressure or temperature. *If you’re still with me: * Thank you all so much for being here. This sub is a daily source of inspiration to me, and was instrumental in getting me back into the hobby. I love seeing your setups, I love reading through conversations about peoples’ preferences, I love the grind finer memes, and most importantly, I love all of you. Thanks so much and keep being you! submitted by tron_crawdaddy to espresso [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 07:54 TEchfygeeks What is CSS?
| https://preview.redd.it/8anhuh6zq45b1.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=137ed71fe82ffdcbaa5671746f54880c75376123 Cascading Style Sheets, commonly known as CSS, is a fundamental technology used in web development to control the presentation and visual styling of HTML documents. CSS provides the means to define the layout, colors, fonts, and other design aspects of a webpage, allowing developers to create visually appealing and consistent web experiences. In this blog, we will delve into the basics of CSS, its syntax, and its key features, shedding light on its role in modern web development. Separation of Style and Structure: One of the core principles of CSS is its separation of style from the structure of a web page. While HTML focuses on defining the structure and content of a webpage, CSS takes care of the presentation and layout. This separation enables developers to make design changes efficiently without modifying the underlying HTML code, promoting code reusability and maintainability. Cascading and Specificity: The "C" in CSS stands for cascading, referring to the mechanism that determines how conflicting style declarations are resolved. CSS follows a set of rules to determine which styles should be applied when multiple styles are defined for the same HTML element. Additionally, CSS specificity determines the priority of different selectors and helps resolve conflicts when multiple rules target the same element. Selectors and Declarations: CSS selectors are used to target specific HTML elements and apply styles to them. Selectors can target elements based on their tag name, class, ID, attributes, or relationship with other elements. Declarations consist of property-value pairs and define the specific styles to be applied to the selected elements. CSS provides a wide range of properties, including color, font-size, margin, padding, background, and many more, allowing precise control over the visual appearance of elements. Box Model and Layout: The CSS box model describes how elements are rendered on the webpage. Each element is represented as a rectangular box, consisting of content, padding, borders, and margins. CSS offers properties to adjust the size, position, and spacing of these boxes, enabling developers to create flexible and responsive layouts. Styling Text and Links: CSS provides extensive options for text styling, allowing developers to control font properties (such as typeface, size, weight, and style), alignment, spacing, and decoration. Additionally, CSS offers the ability to style hyperlinks (links) by defining different styles for link states, such as normal, hover, active, and visited. Responsive Design and Media Queries: With the rise of mobile devices, responsive web design has become essential. CSS incorporates media queries, which allow developers to apply different styles based on the characteristics of the device or viewport. Media queries enable the creation of adaptive and fluid layouts that adjust seamlessly to different screen sizes. Conclusion: CSS is a powerful language that empowers developers to transform the structural elements of HTML into visually appealing and user-friendly web pages. Its separation of style and structure, cascading mechanism, wide range of selectors and properties, and support for responsive design make CSS an essential tool in modern web development. By mastering CSS, developers can create engaging and professional-looking websites while maintaining clean and maintainable code. Additionally, there are online CSS compiler available that streamline the development process by allowing developers to write CSS code in a more organized and efficient manner. So embrace the power of CSS, explore its vast capabilities, and unlock your creativity to craft stunning web experiences that leave a lasting impression on visitors. Utilize online CSS compilers to enhance your workflow and optimize your CSS development process. submitted by TEchfygeeks to u/TEchfygeeks [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 07:13 Laz_Zack Knight: Overview and Job combos
Knight is one of the hardest hitters in the game, with a focus on high damage with Swords and use of White Magicks for support, a relatively straightforward class that is already really powerful on it's own. Working on adding the "Available Licenses" section again, since I've been having a hard time posting new posts due to the character limit on Reddit.
Disclaimers
- I won't be taking characters into account outside some scant cases and some synergies with starting kits.
- All Jobs worked fine by themselves on IZJS so there is not right or wrong answer in the end.
- There are many different styles and scenarios which can change how useful a combo may or may not be, just as there are many ways you can run a combo, are you running a 6-people or a 3-people party? Which game mode you are playing? What kind of weapons you want to use? Are you doubling up on jobs? It's difficult to take into account all these distinct scenarios, so feel free to correct me or point out scenarios where one job combo might be more useful.

Overview: Knight is an interesting job in that it starts using a one-handed swords and shields before switching to Greatswords as their primary weapon class (though one-handed swords like the Simha, Durandal and Karkata are still great if you want to use shields), in a way it starts more defensively like Foebreaker then it shifts to a more offensive approach like Uhlan, both kinds of Swords only use Strength, so you don't have to worry about a secondary stat like other weapons, Knights have good HP (higher than Uhlan's but lower than Foebreaker), a decent amount of Battle Lores, access to both physical damage augments (Focus and Adrenaline) and Last Stand, all 3 Shield Block augments to improve their evasion while wearing a shield, making them a decent Tank though Foebreaker and Shikari are arguably better at that role (Both have better HP, Foebreaker has a bigger focus on one-handed weapons with shields and Shikari has the Main Gauche, together with a good shield and the Jade Collar they are nigh unhittable unless the enemy ignores evasion.), some powerful foes ignore evasion late game, but Shields are still pretty good since some of them are able to decrease the damage or absorb certain elements and also give permanent Shell to fights that use a lot of status attacks (specially useful for fights that spam instant-death attacks as there is no way to make your characters completely immune to them), they are a pretty slow job with only one Swiftness that is also really far away from the start of their board, and while one-handed swords have fast CT speed (the same one as Hammers being only a little behing Axes), Greatswords are on the slower end, they have pretty decent utility if you unlock their White Magicks and a also have a few situational but useful Technicks though I will discuss these more in the "Utility" and "Espers" section.
The class may initially seem similar to Foebreaker but while Hammers & Axes have high attack power they have an element of Luck to them and also need a secondary stat, one-handed Swords have less attack power but hit for more consistent damage and have a variety of elemental (Flamentongue, Icebrand and Excalibur gives them Fire, Ice and Holy) and status weapons (Ancient Sword, Deathbringer, Blood Sword, Karkata and Ragnarok gives them Petrify, Instant-death, Sap, Confuse and Immobilize), so it is a bit of trade-off, Karkata is the highlight of one-handed swords being able to stun lock enemies that aren't immune to confuse really easily while also having really high ATK, Greatswords have amazing single-target damage, being one the most powerful weapons in the game, both kinds of swords don't combo too often though weapons like Simha, Excalibur and the Tournesol have a pretty decent combo rate (a lot lower than high-level Katanas, Ninja Swords, Poles and even Hammers) so they can benefit from staying on low HP (it increases combo rate) and having the Genji Gloves equipped, there aren't that many amazing swords you can get really early (ignoring Karkata from Trial Mode) outside the Defender and the Durandal which can be grinded for a really low chance from some strong mobs, the Bastard Sword and Deathbringer can also be acquired quite early if you go out of your way to hunt them, but they aren't as strong as the other swords I mentioned (though Deathbringer does have an instant-death effect tied to it), the highlight of Knight's kit is definitely the Excalibur, a holy-elemental Greatsword that is already a really strong weapon by itself but a lot of enemies late-game are either undead or weak to Holy which really elevates the weapon to one of the best in the game, beating even the Knight's ultimate weapon, the Tournesol against holy-weak enemies (it doesn't help that the Tournesol is a hassle to get, easily one of the most, if not the most, grindy Bazzar weapon).
Utility: A lot of Knight's utility are tied to Esper unlocks, which makes their ability to do party support entirely reliant on your Esper choices, in this section I'll focus on what they have by default, and I'll speak more about their other skills in the "Espers" section, I already covered their elemental and status effects coverage, so I will focus on their Technicks, Souleater is situational but can do good damage with high ATK weapons, and it is also useful for fights that seal the Attack command, First Aid is only useful in the very early game since it heals a pittance, and it falls off really quickly, Infuse is great for getting a character to low HP to increase combos or activate low HP augments like Adrenaline, Revive is situational, but it can potentially be a lifesaver if you need your healer to be revived on a healthy state ASAP, it is a bit of a crutch ability that is more useful when playing blind but loses its value on replays, Sight Unseeing can be a decent way to get enemies to low HP, so you can Poach them for loot, Knight lacks Item Lores and Magicks without Espers, and they also can't hit flyers outside of throwing items or using innate weapons and magicks from certain characters.
Espers: Compared to other classes Knight has a lot of decent unlocks, with only a few duds here and there, confusingly enough they can't unlock Magic Lores of any kind while other physical classes with much more limited magical options tend to have unlockable Magic Lores or have a few of them on their board, which means they can't power up their magic outside the innate low-level Mystic Armor of a certain character, Magick Gloves, Leather Gorget, accessories that raise a little bit of magic or Faith from Hashmal, Potion Lore 1 from Belias is basically free since the Esper's only other notable unlock is Libra from Bushi and other classes (and a certain character) have Libra innately, Mateus gives Knight White Magicks 6 & 7, giving them Curaga, which is a potent single-target heal that can also be used to damage Undead enemies, it allows Knight to self-heal or heal other party members in a pinch though they lack the magic to make the spell super powerful it is still ok, Regen cures Sap and can also be used to keep your character topped off for full HP augments like Focus, Cleanse cures Disease one of the most dangerous statuses in the game, Esuna cures most statuses effects except Slow, Stop, Oil, Disease, Doom, KO, X-Zone and Stone (though it cures Petrify the "countdown" to Stone status), Mateus is an Esper that is acquired pretty early in the game, so you have a lot of time to put those skills to use, Potion Lore 2 from Shemhazai is not bad, but the Esper is really competed, a single Battle Lore from Cúchulainn is pretty meaningless and the Esper is probably one of the most competed in the whole game, +350 HP from Exodus isn't super necessary as the Esper has more interesting unlocks elsewhere and Knight doesn't really struggle for HP since Heavy Armor has great physical defense, Chaos and Zodiark are odd since it just leads you to the same unlocks as the ones that Knight gets from one of their Quickenings, I suppose it is there in case you got the earlier Quickenings and didn't wait to unlock the one that appears later in their board, both are more useful elsewhere though, Telekinesis from Ultima is decent (the extra Battle Lore here is more of a bonus) it gives them a way to hit flyers and also deal with fights that seal the Attack command though Ultima is gotten quite late, and it is also a pretty competed Esper, lastly Hashmal gives them White Magicks 8 & 9, Faith is a magic damage and healing buff, allowing them to make better use of their own healing magicks or increase the damage and healing of the dedicated casters of the party, Bravery buffs their already great physical damage and also lets them buff other physical damage dealers in the party, Curaja is the best healing spell in the game, even without great magic it heals for a decent amount, is AoE and can also be used to damage Undead enemies, Confuse is more of a bonus though as Karkata is better than both it and Charm, confuse is better as an on-hit effect, the problem is that Hashmal comes in so late that you don't have much content left to use all of these abilities on.
What it needs and what it can offer: Knight is already pretty complete by itself, the most obvious drawback is how slow they are compared to other classes, while the difference between two and three swiftness is pretty minimal, that isn't the case with only one swiftness, it doesn't help that their only swiftness is really far away from the start of the board, so they will be noticeably slower for a while even when compared to Red Battlemage that also has only one swiftness but can get it easier than Knight, the other thing they really need is magic to make use of it's White Magicks secondaries, they have access to Excalibur a holy-elemental weapon, so they have good synergy with classes that have access to Mystic Armor due to the White Robes boosting the damage of the Holy element, better item support and unobtrusive utility also never hurts, lastly another sore spot is that they lack a way to hit flyers or good options to deal with physical pailings.
Knight provides similar things to Foebreaker, access to Heavy Armor (which includes the Genji Set for the Genji Gloves), a good amount of HP and Battle Lores, augments like Adrenaline, Focus and Last Stand, all Shields, Shield Block augments, White Magicks and Potion Lores for extra support options if you unlock them and a few situational Technicks.
The combos:
Archer: A pretty straightforward upgrade for both parties, Archer gets marginally better HP but more importantly the early Heavy Armor, Battle Lores and Adrenaline it wants, while also getting 1000 Needles for free since Knight has Infuse, extra White Magicks from Knight (if you unlock them) expands their already good support kit, but their item healing will probably overshadow your magic options until you get to Hashmal (See "Esper" section) specially since you'll lack the Magic Lores to make the most out of Archer and Knight's Magicks (Faith helps though Hashmal comes in really late), lastly Archer gets a few extra Technicks which includes Sight Unseeing for easy Poaching (see "Utility" section).
Knight gets all three swiftness, all Item Lores (except Ether Lores) for amazing item support and also the ability to inflict all status effects with a Remedy with the Nihopalaoa accessory (or boost the efficacy of items further with a Pheasant Netsuke), Bows are good weapons to hit flyers or stay at range and also come with a variety of different elemental and status arrows for more coverage, Cura and Raise expands Knight's White Magick tool-kit further, they also get access to all of Archer's Technicks which includes Shades of Black for a way to hit flyers without equipment switching (1000 Needles and Gil Toss can also hit flyers), do AoE damage or deal with physical pailings, Gil Toss does a lot of damage if you have the money to spare, is non-elemental and is AoE, Steal is pretty good on tanks to attract the attention of enemies (for other Archer Technicks see the "Utility" section in the Archer post), lastly they gain access to Light Armor, it is a bit of a lackluster armor type as it only really excels in increasing HP at the cost of your other offensive stats, there are some useful ones like the Brave Suit that is good for any melee attacker, and the ones that reduce elemental damage can also be quite useful, with the right shield or accessory you can become completely immune to certain elements, overall a pretty good upgrade for both parties.
Black Mage: One of the few combos where it feels like Black Mage coexists with the other party relatively well, there are some interesting synergies here though if you want your Black Mage to be a pure caster this is probably not the best combo for that, Black Mage gets a lot of extra HP, access to Last Stand and Shields for better survivability, some extra Technicks from Knight (see "Utility" and "Esper" section), potentially some Potion Lores for better item support and two good weapon-types if they need to be physical for whatever reason, Knight gets All Black Magicks and Green Magicks, the former gives them a way to hit flyers, deal with pailings (non-elemental spells are great for pailings specially), do AoE damage, and great elemental and status coverage, Green Magicks gives Knight a lot of extra utility and a way to self-cast Decoy, Bubble and Reverse for tanking (high magic also means Decoy and Reverse stick more often), the obvious benefit from the combo is that the Magic Lores, Mystic Armor and Magic Augments from Black Mage do wonders to power up Knight's White Magicks if you unlock them, making Curaga and Curaja specially really powerful for both healing and damaging undead enemies (Curaja is also AoE), Hashmal allows for self-casting Faith for better spell damage though that comes in late in the game (for more detail on the White Magicks see the "Esper" section), you get Hand-bombs 3 and Makara from Mateus and Hashmal respectively as a bonus, giving you another way to hit flyers and access to all the status and elemental ammo from hand-bombs for even more coverage (Foebreaker post has more info on Hand-Bombs since it is one of their main weapons), the White Robes from Black Mage gives Knight a way to boost Excalibur damage to ridiculous levels though very few bosses can Tank a boosted Excalibur, so it feels like overkill (you can heal yourself or a party member with Excalibur if you have a White Mask or a Sage's Ring since they absorb Holy), you get a few extra Technicks from Black Mage (see "Utility" and "Esper" section on the Black Mage post), if you give the combo to a character with innate Steal you get Poach for free which can be useful due to Knight having Sight Unseeing (see "Utility" section), lastly Knight gets three Ether Lores and two Remedy Lores for better item support.
The obvious disadvantage from this combo is that you put two really powerful classes on the same character which can take away the focus from either Black Mage or Knight depending on how you run the combo, Black Mage also doesn't really need the Genji Set though there is only one class that really misses the set and there are other options for that.
Bushi: A well-known combo, and an effective one, both classes complement each other really well and the big disadvantages of the combo is that you still don't have a way to hit flyers or deal with pailings that doesn't involve RNG and that you are putting a bunch of really great weapons on the same character (Simha, Karkata, Excalibur, Tournesol, Masamune and Khumba all on the same place) which can be seen as a detriment specially on a 12-job setting, they also both have access to the Genji Set and Blood Sword\Karkata, Knight gets pretty much most of the things it wants, they get more HP from Bushi but more importantly all three swiftness, two Remedy Lores for better item support, they get all the Magic Lores, Magic Augments and Mystic Armor they need to make the most out of their White Magicks, making Curaga and Curaja really powerful for healing and damaging undead, Bravery and Faith are also useful for Bushi to improve Katana and Shades of Black damage though Hashmal comes in quite late (for more detail on the White Magicks see "Esper" section), access to the White Robes means Excalibur does absurd amounts of damage, though there aren't that many enemies that can tank enough hits from a boosted Excalibur for it to not feel like complete overkill (you can heal yourself or a party member with Excalibur if you have a White Mask or a Sage's Ring since they absorb Holy), Blood Sword is near the beginning of Knights board, so if you unlock it you can get Karkata quite early due to Bushi also having access to those swords via an Esper, Knight also gets a decent amount of extra Technicks, you get Potion Lore 1 and Libra with Belias which is neat (you'll already have Libra if you give the combo to a character with innate Libra though), Libra is useful for seeing traps and enemy stats, other ones includes Shades of Black for hitting flyers (1000 Needles and Gil Toss can also hit flyers), do AoE damage and deal with pailings, Gil Toss is good non-elemental AoE damage and for fights that block the Attack command (for other Bushi Technicks, see the "Utility" and "Esper" section of the Bushi post).
Bushi gets a lot of things out of the combo too, Magicks to actually use their high magic on (if you unlock them), early Heavy Armor, so they don't have to rely on innate licenses, wait until Genji or Zodiark, extra Battle Lores, Adrenaline, Focus, and potentially some Potion Lores for better item support, all Shields and Shield Block augments to use with Khumba while also getting Blood Sword and Karkata without the use of an Esper, Souleater for free for fights that block the Attack command or to use with high ATK weapons, potentially Telekinesis and an extra Battle Lore with Ultima for another way to hit flyers (or deal with Attack command block) which also gives you Stamp as a bonus though the Esper is pretty competed and also comes in late (for other Technicks see "Utility" and "Esper" section).
Foebreaker: The three melee Heavy Armor jobs don't really pair all that well with each other, too much overlap, both parties don't really get meaningfully improved, and they feel awful on 12-job setting where other classes will really miss the benefits that the melee jobs could give, Knight gets a bit more HP and some extra Battle Lores, but they have to wait until Ultima and Hashmal for better speed, you get double benefit from both Espers due to Knight also having unlocks on these Espers (Swiftness and White Magicks with Hashaml, Battle Lore, Telekinesis and Swiftness with Ultima), but both Espers come in quite late and Ultima in particular is pretty competed, Belias does give both Horology and Potion Lore 1 which is kind of neat I guess, Knight potentially gets extra Magic Lores from Foebreaker to slightly improve their White Magicks if you unlock them, but they are behind rather competed Espers and one of them only unlocks one Magic Lore, similar situation with Shades of Black from Foebreaker which is behind Cúchulainn, another really competed Esper, so no way to hit flyers without changing equipment, do AoE damage or deal with pailings, though they get to hit flyers with Hand-Bombs which also gives them some elemental and status coverage with their ammunition (spoke more about Hand-Bombs in the Foebreaker post), Breaks are situational but gives them extra utility and Expose does improve Sword damage and can be gotten quite early, no Mystic Armor (outside innate licenses) for improving their White Magicks or using the White Robes with Excalibur, no Light Armor for permanent buffs or elemental mitigation.
Foebreaker potentially gets some White Magicks and Potion Lores for extra utility and few extra Technicks (see "Utility" and "Esper" section), but not much more, there is a bit of a dynamic here between Swords and Hammers & Axes, one is more consistent and has better status and elemental coverage, and one hits harder but has an element of luck and also needs a secondary stat, so it is a bit interesting, but it is better to have those weapons on different combos than on the same character, there is way too much overlap here, same Heavy Armor licenses (which includes overlap in the Genji Set for Genji gloves), similar HP and Battle Lores, same Shield and Shield Block augments, same augments (Last Stand, Adrenaline and Focus) which wouldn't be as big of a deal if they actually benefited each other in some other way (per example Archer and Shikari also have some overlap in augments, but they also benefit\get benefited from Knight and Foebreaker in more meaningful ways), once Greatswords kick-in Foebreaker doesn't improve them outside of Expose, the benefits from the combo are very minimal, niche or come-in really late, it can be fine if you are into reference builds since it reminiscent of FFI Warrior, but not great if you want something more practical.
Machinist: Similar to ArcheKnight it is a pretty straightforward upgrade to both parties, Guns don't use stats so all you really need to make the most out of them is Focus and Adrenaline, while Machinist doesn't benefit from Heavy Armor (or Genji and Battle Lore) but they can still use the Maximilian for a marginal increase in CT speed, they also get slightly more HP from Knight, access to their Technicks which includes Sight Unseeing to be used with Machinists Poach (See "Utility" and "Esper" section for more info on Knight's Technicks) and Infuse to get to low HP for Adrenaline, White Magicks from Knight to expand their support options though they lack a lot of Magic to make good use of them, being able to self-cast Bravery and Faith is good for Gun damage and if you unlock Green and Time Magicks from Machinist though Hashmal spells come in late and a lot of the Time Magicks don't need magic, only thing missing is Black Robes for Dark Shot though there are few combos that can have both Dark Shot and Adrenaline+Focus, so it is a compromise you have to make when doing combos with Machinist, lastly with all the Shields and Shield Block augments you can evasion Tank with Measures (Measures have high evasion) and even self-cast Decoy with Exodus, though since they lack offensive Magicks you won't be able to do damage unless you want to use Gil Toss, and since Measures have buffs tied to them if you attack with them, you can end up buffing the boss.
Knight gets all three swiftness, some odd Magic Lores for a minimal improvement to their Magicks if you unlock them, Measures for some extra buffing potential, amazing item support with all Item Lores except two Phoenix Lores and two Ether Lores (which allows you to inflict all status effects with a Remedy with the Nihopalaoa accessory or boost the efficacy of items further with a Pheasant Netsuke), Guns are a great option for hitting flyers or staying at range (specially since they ignore stats and defense) and also have a good variety of elemental and status ammunition for more coverage, with Exodus they get a bit of extra HP together with Green Magicks (allows to self-cast Decoy for tanking or improve wyrmfire shot and Flametongue damage with Oil, though both of these spells will have a hard time sticking without the Indingo Pendant due to the lack of Magic Lores and Flametongue also probably fell off already by the time you get to Exodus), with Famfrit you get access to Time Magicks for self-casting Haste and extra status and buff coverage, but the Esper comes in really late, for how Light Armor benefits Knight see the Archer section, lastly they get access to all of Machinist's Technicks, which includes Gil Toss for another way to hit flyers that doesn't require switching equipment, and also a good option for AoE and damage if you have the money to spare, Libra for seeing traps and enemy stats, Steal to attract the attention of enemies if you plan to tank with this character, and Traveler, a powerful Technick if you know how to use it, only thing the combo lacks is a way to deal with pailings, White Robes for Excalibur and Magic for Knight's White Magicks and Machinist's Green Magicks\Time Magicks.
Monk: An interesting combo, the amount of White Magicks you can potentially get is absurd, almost all the White Magicks spells, though the Esper investment is heavy if you want to get all of them, and also you won't really have the magic to make the healing spells in particular super powerful though a good portion of the spells here don't rely on magic (For Knight's spells see the "Esper" section), Monk gets the Heavy Armor it wants which includes the Genji Gloves to increase the already high combo rate of Poles (Infuse from Knight also lets them get to low HP for better combos and activate Adrenaline easier), Poles cover some elements Swords don't, can hit flyer and also hit for magick resist, so you can switch your weapons depending on which kind of defense the enemy has more, they get Souleater and Sight Unseeing for free from Knight and also some extra Technicks (see "Utility" for more info), Curaja and Bravery overlap but that means you get to use those spells much earlier since Monk only needs a quickening for them, the overlap also means you get the Hashmal spells much earlier which means you get access to Faith (which helps with the lack of Magic from the pairing) and Confuse a lot easier, so you get to put these spells to more use instead of having to wait until the endgame, all the Battle Lores from Monk also gives you Telekinesis from Ultima for free due to bypassing Esper locks for another way to hit flyers or deal with fights that block the attack command.
Knight gets all the Battle Lores and HP from Monk which really ups their damage as Monk has a lot more HP and Battle Lores than other jobs, their two Potion Lores easier (three with Shemhazai though that is a competed Esper) and two Phoenix Lores for better item support, potentially most of the White Magicks spells depending on your Esper investments which includes extra support spells for Utility (Protectga and Shellga, AoE Protect and Shell), a powerful revive via Arise, Dispelga to dispel buffs from enemies and certain debuffs from allies which is also AoE, Esunaga for AoE Esuna, Renew for a full heal though Curaja with Faith is probably enough and Renew can risk giving the boss a full heal if they have a mechanic where they cast reflect on your party, Holy is a lackluster spell so consider it more of bonus, and Cura and Raise from Hashmal is not worth by the time you get to the Esper unless you really don't have better unlocks, all of Monks Technicks which includes Expose for better Sword and Pole damage, Shades of Black for a way to hit flyers that doesn't require equipment switching, deal with pailings and do AoE damage, Libra to see traps and enemy stats and Traveler, a powerful Technick if you know how to use and also a few others, for how Light Armor benefits Knight see the Archer section, the obvious drawback is that in a 12-job setting not only can other jobs can miss out on what Monk and Knight provides, you also put a bunch of powerful weapons on the same character, you also have to wait until Ultima for the last two swiftness, so the character will be slow until you can unlock the Esper, no White Robes for Excalibur though that isn't a huge deal.
Red Battlemage: Both jobs compliment each other well, but Red Battlemage pairs decently with most things due to being a jack-of-all-trades, while Maces only need magic for damage, they still benefit from Focus and Adrenaline from Knight, they cover some elements and statuses that Knight doesn't have for more coverage, Red Battlemages can really struggle for MP with all the spells they cast and lack of easier access to their third Channeling augment, so they appreciated being able to recover more MP via Headsman and Inquisitor, Red Battlemage gets more HP, Last Stand and Shield Blocks augments for better survivability, though their shield licenses overlap and Red Battlemage also doesn't need Genji, they get easier access to their Greatswords due to Knight having them innately though it feels more like Knight overwrites this part them really making their Greatswords better, due to them already having Curaga and Regen they get Esuna and Cleanse for free without an Esper due to bypassing Esper Locks, Knight can also give them Faith for better spell and healing, Bravery for better Mace damage and Curaja to give them the endgame healing spells they lack, though Hashmal comes late in the game, you get Steal as a bonus though it would be more of use earlier, a single extra Battle Lore from Cúchulainn since that Esper normally goes to Red Battlemage, and lastly they potentially get some Potion Lores from Knight for better item support though their healing Magicks will probably overshadow that and all of Knights Technicks (see "Utility" and "Esper" section for that).
Knight gets a good variety spells to use, some healing spells, utility spells (which includes Green Magicks for tanking which I spoke about in the Black Mage section) and a good variety of elemental and status spells, with a Demon shield or Black Mask you can heal your character or other party members with dark spells, all the Magic Lores, Mystic Armor and Magic Augments help improve Curaja from Hashmal, a single Ether Lore for marginally better item support (and one or two extra Technicks), the spells are helpful to hit flyers, for AoE or to deal with pailings (Drain is non-elemental which is good for pailings and can also hit flyers), White Robes means you can boost the damage of Excalibur for absurd levels (you can heal yourself or a party member with Excalibur if you have a White Mask or a Sage's Ring since they absorb Holy), though that feels like overkill for a lot of the game, the combo is also really slow since both Knight and Red Battlemage only gets one swiftness, it doesn't help that they can't self-cast Haste since Red Battlemage lacks it, still overall it still is a good general improvement for both sides.
Shikari: A decent improvement to both parties, Shikari gets the Heavy Armor, Battle Lores, the Shields and shield block it is missing, though they don't benefit from Genji Gloves since Germinas Boots is better, Daggers and Ninja Swords cover some elements and status effects that Knight doesn't have, so you have some better coverage, you get an extra Battle Lore since Shikari has Telekinesis, and it bypasses Ultima's Esper Lock and you can potentially get Shades of Black from Adrammelech if the Esper is not needed elsewhere, useful for dealing with flyers, doing AoE damage or dealing with pailings, Mateus gives you Gil Toss with the Knight's White Magicks (see the "Esper" section for that), Gil Toss can hit flyers, do good damage, and is also a decent option for AoE and for fights that Block the Attack Command if you have the money to spare, if you unlock guns from Shemhazai you get to use them with Focus and Adrenaline, and they also give access to all the ammo for even more elemental and status coverage, Hashmal gives the Bonecrusher as a Bonus and Bravery and Faith for better Dagger, Ninja Sword and Shades of Black damage though that comes in really late, the odd Magic Lores from Shikari help improve Knight's healing spells though not by a huge margin, and lastly access to all of Knight Technicks (see "Utility" and "Esper" section for that).
Knight gets slightly better HP, three swiftness, great item support with all Potion and Remedy Lores which can be improved with Ultima with two Phoenix Lores (you can inflict all status effects with a Remedy with the Nihopalaoa accessory or boost the efficacy of items further with a Pheasant Netsuke), they get access to Telekinesis easier and can also use Guns for flyers if you unlock them though the Technick and Guns are only available later in the game so unless you unlock Shades of Black they still won't be able to hit flyers easily for a while (you can also use 1000 Needles and Gil Toss for that), they get a few other Technicks and Light Armor (see Archer section for how Light Armor helps Knight), overall a pretty good combo.
Time Battlemage: Pairing two Heavy Armor jobs may seem counterintuitive, but Time Battlemage is a bit of an odd job and has enough differences for it to be a decent utility upgrade for other jobs, while they lack a huge amount of Magic Lores and Mystic Armor their Magic Lores and Magic Augments still help improves Knight's White Magick better than the odd Magic Lore from other classes, it helps that they can get Cura and Raise from Adrammelech to expand Knight's White Magicks kit, Hashmal gives them their last Channeling augment together with the Hashmal spells (See "Espers" section, Faith is useful for healing spells and for sticking status effects) though that comes in late, they get their one-handed Swords for free though similar to Red Battlemages Greatswords it feels more like Knight simply overwrites them, Time Magicks are good but unobtrusive and situational enough that they don't interupt Knight's role a physical damage dealer too often, it is easy to have your character self-cast Haste and Berserk and just watch them go to town when you don't need to use status effects (you'll need the Indigo Pendant to make status effects hit more consistently), though Knight's high HP helps with the damage from the Balance spell, Crossbows are a decent way to deal with flyers and also gives you extra status coverage, though Crossbows miss often compared to other ranged weapons, Drain lets you deal with pailings and also gives you another option to deal with flyers (and the other Green Magicks benefits I discusses in the Black Mage section), Sight Unseeing is useful to use with Poach (see "Utility" section), and if you unlock Shear and Addle you have some extra utility options, you also get a few other Technicks, lastly Knight gets three swiftness and better item support with two Ether Lores (Three with Zalera) and two Remedy Lores.
Time Battlemage gets a more realiable weapon, better HP for more survivability, all of Knight's Technicks and potentially more White Magicks and some Potions Lore for better item support (see "Utility" and "Esper" section), overall a pretty great combo specially if you aren't too focused on getting the White Robes for Excalibur.
Uhlan: A lot of the combos problems are similar to FoebreakeKnight, so I'll focus on the new things, slightly better HP for Uhlan, Uhlan doesn't really benefit from Genji Gloves, they can make Spears combo more often, but Spears have really low combo rates, the few odd Magic Lores from Uhlan kind of help improve Knight's healing spells (if you unlock them), specially since you get a few more with Mateus as a bonus, though it isn't a huge improvement, you can potentially get Breaks, but they are behind some really competed Espers, Bravery and Faith from Hashmal are useful for improving Spear damage and Uhlan spells (specially the Chaos' spells) though Hashmal comes in late, Spears are a good way to deal with flyers and also cover some elements and status effects the Knight doesn't have, they overlap in Holy-elemental weapons though Gugnir is good for fire damage, but it is gotten late, Shades of Black is good for AoE, dealing with flyers without switching equipment and pailings, Uhlan's Black Magicks are a less luck reliant option for that though you are limited by their spell selection (Aeroga is really powerful and Bio is non-elemental something to look forward to if you plan on using Chaos here), Sight Unseeing with Poach and Uhlan gets Knight Technicks (see "Utility" and "Esper" section), Knight gets two swiftness, good item support with two out of three Item Lores of all Item Lores except Ether Lores, this combo can potentially get a decent amount of both White and Black Magicks, so it gives the character some versatility, you also get Telekinesis for free due to bypassing Esper locks giving another option to deal with flyers and deal with fights that block the attack command, it feels better than FoebreakeKnight and Uhlan/Foebreaker but not by a huge margin.
White Mage: Feels fitting for a Paladin build, but there are other things going for it too, White Mage ends up completely overwriting Knight's White Magicks (just as Knight kind of overwrites White Mage's Greatswords), that can be seen as a drawback if you wanted to spread out those abilities, but it can also be seen as a benefit since it means less Esper assignments to worry about, White Mage appreciates Last Stand, the better HP, shields and shield block augments for better survivability as they are a rather squishy job, a great weapon-type with good amount of Battle Lores and physical augments to do damage and regen their MP via Inquisitor and Headsman is also great as they really struggle for MP without a Sage's Ring, potentially some Potion Lores from Knight though their White Magicks overshadow that, they also overlap in hitting the Holy-element with the Holy spells which is gotten late and is also lackluster, and the Holy Rod which is great rod for doing holy-damage, lastly they get access to all of Knight Technicks (see "Utility" and "Esper" section) which gives them Souleater for free to do good damage with high ATK weapons and deal with fights that block the attack command.
Knight gets all White Magick which explains itself for utility, but it gives them earlier and easier access to Bravery for better sword damage and Green Magicks for tanking (see Black Mage section for how Green Magicks help tanking), two swiftness and two Ether Lores for better item support, Rods aren't great outside the Holy Rod, but they can be used to hit flyers, and you can also use Drain for flyers and to deal with pailings, some extra Technicks which includes Libra to see traps and enemy stats, White Robes for boosted Excalibur is accounted for, though there aren't that many enemies that can tank hits from a boosted Excalibur (you can heal yourself or a party member with Excalibur if you have a White Mask or a Sage's Ring since they absorb Holy), the obvious drawback is the overlap in White Magicks if you were more interested in improving Knight's Magicks them completely overwriting them.

2023.06.10 06:22 Snigaroo KOTOR 1 & 2 Mod Builds: Fully Compatible, Modular Mod Compilations. Spoiler-Free Builds Included! Plus Mobile Support for iOS and Android!
If you do nothing else, PLEASE read the 'Instructions' section before continuing on to the mod lists!
New users run the risk of having content spoiled for them otherwise, and all users need to read the special installation instructions listed here to install the mod builds properly!
Objective & Structure of the Mod Builds
If you've always wanted to mod KOTOR 1 or 2 but have been hesitant--which mods are good, which are compatible?--this resource is here to help.
For over a decade I've worked with the mod community, collating and managing modular packages of compatible mods which I refer to as "mod builds." The goal behind these builds is to find the best KOTOR mods and present them as a fully-compatible & modular archive, allowing users to pick-and-choose the mods they want from a large, vanilla-friendly selection with minimum hassle and no fears of incompatibility. That said, I have never skimped on quality in return for quantity; all mods listed in this thread are lore-friendly, and no mod which significantly alters or interrupts the vanilla experience has been considered for inclusion. The goal for these mod builds is an improvement of the vanilla experience rather than the creation of a new experience.
The builds for both games are divided into Full builds and Spoiler-Free builds. These spoiler-free builds contain mods with censored readmes, to prevent the player from accidentally being spoiled, so even if you are a brand-new player you can still enjoy bugfixes, updated graphics, and most of the full build's added content free of any risk. Most, because the spoiler-free builds also lack mods which have the potential to alter the game's balance from what BioWare/Obsidian intended, to ensure that your first playthrough is the most pure vanilla-plus experience possible.
There are also builds for both games designed to work on mobile devices, containing all the content of their Full or Spoiler-Free counterparts, but without any extremely large or graphically intensive content which could cause issues while running on mobile. This allows users to experience bugfixes, mechanics improvements, added content and some small-scale graphical improvements without risk of your device catching fire.
Each build is modular in nature, meaning that most mods aren't reliant upon one another to function. Because of this, you can choose to either use everything I list, or to pick and choose what you prefer for a personalized experience. You are also, of course, welcome to add additional mods on top of these builds, and although I cannot guarantee their compatibility I would be happy to work with any user to maximize their chances of creating a compatible build.
Why Use These Guides?
If the above has sold you, then by all means, please continue down to the Instructions section. But I understand why it might not have; after all, a premise is all fine and well, but does it deliver?
If you want some additional convincing, I invite you to take a look at this quick list of bullet-points about what the mod builds offer, and why those offerings are unique.
Instructions
In the section below are eight links. Simply choose the game, content package, and platform you'd like and you're set!
As for actually installing these mods, there are a few simple rules to follow:
- Create a deadlystream and nexusmods account. Deadlystream--our main host for KOTOR mods--has a download speed limit for users without an account (which is free). The Nexus has an actual file size limit without an account, so you'll need a Nexus account to download some files.
- Install the mods in the order you are presented with them. If you fail to do this, you risk running into bugs, many quite significant. Note that you'll still encounter some warnings on installer mods even when doing this, but those warnings are normal (errors, however, are not). If you want to add new mods which aren't included in these lists to a build, you should reach out to me so we can work together to create an installation order which is stable for you.
- Don't attempt to continue an old save after installing these mods. Unless they're just texture files which do not contain files of the .2da filetype, once your game is modded any previous saves you have should be treated as incompatible.
- If you are intending to use any content not included in the mod builds, search for and identify that content BEFORE installing the builds! Certain mods have install steps or overwrite requirements that will necessitate you installing them midway through the mod build install, so if you want to use content outside the builds, you should identify that content before you start your install.
- Do not use the Nexus's Vortex Mod Manager with either build, or the Steam Workshop alongside the KOTOR 2 mod build! Don't even use a Workshop version of one of the mods present in the KOTOR 2 builds! Both systems have trouble properly functioning with KOTOR mods; you can read more about why this is for the Workshop here.
- Be mindful of what mods work with non-English versions of the game. If you are not playing in English, only some mods will be compatible with your game version. Each mod lists whether it is compatible with non-English versions or not, and you will need to either play in English or skip several mods. There's nothing that we can do about this; most mods which modify dialogue only support English. Please also bear in mind that you need to select the language you intend to play in before installing these mods, and CANNOT change your chosen language after you have completed your install (doing so will overwrite many of the mod files downloaded here).
- Keep an eye on mod categories and tiers to get an idea of what a mod does and how important I believe it is to use that mod. This is especially important for users of the Spoiler-Free builds, where information will sometimes necessarily be very vague, but it's also helpful for users who don't intend to use the entirety of one of the Full builds. Each mod has a category and a tier, the former of which clarifies the types of changes the mod makes, and the latter of which, on a scale of 1-4, clarifies how important I believe the mod is for getting the best possible experience out of the game. Using this information, you can better judge what mods you would like to use and what you can safely ignore in the course of your build installation.
- If you are not installing on a Windows OS, keep this card in mind, as it goes over the various install types present in the builds and will help you determine what mods will be easy to install on your OS, and which might need special support (for instance, using a wrapper to install .exe files on Mac OS).
- Follow installation instructions, mine when I provide special instructions and the mod creator's when I have no word to put in. Most of these mods are extremely easy to install, but it's very important to make sure that none of the special install instructions are missed for the sake of mod compatibility.
- Keep track of master mods. Some mods require other mods to function, and thus the "master" mod cannot be removed if you want that mod in your build. In the build posts I will list when a mod has a master.
- Overwrite any files when prompted. Most of the mods in these builds are fully compatible, but some partially overwrites a part of another mod. These cases are where the install order matters; I have purposefully tailored the installation order so that mods that have compatibility issues are overwritten in the proper order for the game to function as intended, and for all of the changes we're making to be seamless.
- New users: be careful with readme files and descriptions! Even for mods that I've censored, there might still be minor spoilers in the readme, and this goes doubly for mods that have included screenshots or file descriptions on their hosting site. When reading about a mod, it's always an excellent rule of thumb to only read so much of the description--and view as few of the screenshots--as are necessary to make sure you know whether you want to use it or not, then the installation instructions (and nothing else).

FAQ
It's highly recommended that you read the Builds' FAQ if you have any questions about the current implementation of the Builds, problems with the Builds, or a desire to include mods of your own outside of those available in the Builds!
Changelog
NOTE: Only major changes are reflected in changelogs. The builds undergo constant iterating and compatibility work, but large batches of mods are only added during Revision-level updates.
12/25/2022:
- Merry Christmas! A new piece of restored content by JC, an alternate ending for DS characters who romance Carth, has been integrated!
12/9/2022:
- Several dozen new mods across both games.
- Several mods for KOTOR which also work for KOTOR 2 have now been integrated into the KOTOR 2 build list, to make the games more visually consistent across builds and improve overall graphical fidelity.
- Added information on all mods indicating how they are installed (loose-file, TSLPatcher, etc.) and whether or not they are compatible with non-English game versions. De facto, this now makes the builds compatible with non-English game versions, although for the moment, out of necessity, several mods must be skipped when not playing in English.
- Conversion of all .tga-based upscale mods to .tpc, saving several GBs of download size and space on disk.
- Thanks to further collaboration with ShiningRed, tightened up the AI upscale mods to remove the last problem textures, and integrated most of the Nar Shaddaa upscale, which was previously excluded.
4/13/2022:
After the most implausible series of delays and problems I've ever encountered, finally, the new build release is out! Highlights follow:
- Fully supported mobile builds!
- Complete and fully-tested AI upscales of almost all areas and characters for both games!
- Dynamic lightsaber lighting & reflections for both games in all game areas.
- The inclusion of LDR's amazing A Crashed Ship on an Unknown World mod for KOTOR, in my opinion the best piece of added content ever made for these games, hands-down.
Changelogs older than 4/13/2022 can be found here!
Special Thanks
Principle thanks to Jcarter426, longtime collaborator and co-author of the mod builds. Without his assistance maintaining and improving guides of this size would not be possible, and a massive debt is owed to him both by myself and the community more broadly.
A very special thanks to my testers! Although I do all the playthrough testing myself these days, the testers of the old builds helped us get to the point we've arrived at today, and as I don't own the games on mobile my mobile testers are critical to every future mobile release!
Special thanks also to all of the modders whose work I've been using over the years, and an especial thanks to DarthParametric, Fair Strides, Deltm, A Future Pilot, and Nomuit, who have at various times all been indispensable helping me with testing, bugfixing, and rebuilding mods to support build compatibility!
Thanks to mattekillert for mocking up the original category and tier images for me, and Amanda from the Discord for updating them for me.

2023.06.10 06:00 AutoModerator Weekly Advice Thread 10/06/2023
Welcome to the WAT, summoner! Post questions regarding team composition, content progression, game mechanics, or anything else in this thread. If you are able to help your fellow summoners, please take some time to contribute to the community and answer some questions yourself as well!
A lot of helpful guides and resources can be found in the
subreddit mega wiki.
If you ask a question please give ALL relevant information!
- Your monster box: Upload a screenshot to Reddit directly or an image hosting site like imgur or use swarfarm. Sort your box by "Grade" and try to include all 4*s and LD nat 3*s.
- Your current progression: Where you currently are in the game, what your teams are, what content you need help with and what you have tried so far.
- For ToA, which enemies are on the floor you're stuck on.
- For PvP, indicate what rank you are trying to achieve, i.e. currently F3 want to get C1 Arena. For RTA also share your rank percentage.
The less people have to clarify or look up to help you, the more likely you will get a fast response.
Beginner friendly/farmable PvE teams
Recommended progression: GB10 -> ToAN -> GB12 -> ToAH -> (DB11 ->) NB12 -> R5 and Rifts
Fast progression: GB12 -> (DB11 ->) NB12 -> BJ5 -> Tricaru DB12
Note that for NB12 a few violent sets (especially on twins) are making things a lot easier so before tackling Necropolis you might want to farm a little bit of DB11, it also gives you Guard runes for Tricaru.
- GB10: Vero (L), Fran, Loren, Lapis, Shannon/second awakened (2A) Kro
- Legacy GB10 teams typically include Belladeon, Bernard, or Darion. These units are outdated and can be skipped.
- GB12: Vero (L), Fran, Loren, 2A Kro, Shannon/Lapis/2A Naomi
- DB12: Verde (L), Fran, Loren, Sig, Elsharion or Verde (L), Vero, Fran, Loren, Spectra (2A)
- PB10: Verde (L), Colleen/Fran, 2A Raoq, 2A Kro, 2A Spectra/Yen/Pang. You can also use 2A Jultan to tank the boss (on multiple Will sets).
- SB10: Fran, Loren, 2A Kro, 2A Raoq, Ling Ling
- NB12: Lapis (L), Colleen/Fran, Loren, 2A Raoq, 2A Kro/Raoq (NB10 guide). Twins are a much better choice and should be used if possible. You can also directly use Tricaru.
- ToA(H): Fran (L), Lapis, Verde, Loren, Vero/2A Kro/2A Spectra. Use Tyron if you have him. 2A Sath/Thrain are good options if you want to go for a dot team, do not use Baretta as he's terribly outdated.
- R5: Front Line: Xiong Fei, Darion Back Line: Colleen, 2A Kro, Tesa, Theo/Xiao Lin/Belladeon
- R5 stat minimum: You need 25k HP and 1.5k DEF for FL units and 20k HP and 0.8-1k DEF for BL units. Healers and your cleanser should have 100% RES after lead.
- Rift unit options: Xiao Lin, Theomars, Fran, Colleen, and 2A Kro can be used in most of your rift teams. FL Mav/Bernard is good for Water rift and Lapis is good for Fire and Dark rifts. Twins are great in all rifts.
You still need appropriate rune quality and turn order! Do not expect to beat a dungeon just by having these units
Common speed teams
- R5 - BJ5: Colleen, Baleygr, Janssen, Dagora, Loren, lead unit (BJ5 guide)
- DB12 - Tricaru: Verde (L), 2A Icaru, 2A Icaru, 2A Icaru (guide (Note: DEF requirement is 3300)) (Cheatsheet) (Calculator)
- NB12 - Tricaru: Either add Astar or replace Verde with her (on vamp, same stats). Adding Astar and Lushen to clear waves first also works.
- GB12 - dots dots dots: 2A Sath, Mellia, Mellia, 2A Tatu, dot unit/Lushen (guide)
- PB10 - Tricaru: Kill towers first (usually L>R>B but some people reported R>L>B working better for them).
- SB10 - dots dots dots: 2A Sath, Mellia, Mellia, 2A Tatu, dot unit/Lushen
PvE accuracy requirements
Rifts need no ACC. R5 needs 15%. SB10 needs 25%. PB10 39%. ToA(H), GB10, and NB10 45%. DB10, GB12, NB12 and ToA Hell 55%. DB12 needs 65%.
General tips and answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
- NEVER feed non-farmable monsters! (you can feed dupes for skill ups)
- Save your devilmons! In general you do not want to give devilmon to 4* units, Sigmarus and Jeanne are the best early game candidates. Veromos does not need devilmon.
- Best summon stone targets: Tyron, Lushen, Shaina, Sabrina, Talia. For PvP Khmun, Skogul, Galleon.
- Check the events for free energy, mana, and other beneficial stuff. To find the current event pages use the button below the energy/mana counter in-game.
- Lapis can farm Faimon Hell on the free 6* level 15 vampire/revenge runes provided by the challenges. She should be your first 5* and probably 6* as well.
- Shield sets can reduce the HP/DEF requirements on other units and multiple shield sets will stack to form one larger total shield. Each set contributes a shield equal to 15% of the base HP of the monster they are equipped on.
- White artifacts from B2 are cheap to upgrade and can give you a massive stat boost early.
- Hall of Heroes (HoH) should be attempted as high as you can climb. Reps like Rica or Verad can help a lot. Mid/late game players can get 5 extra copies of the HoH monster using almighty scroll pieces after each floor at the small cost of 2000 guild points for each extra monster.
- Most nat 5*s are PvP exclusive and should be set aside in storage till you make some progress on PvE. Some exceptions are CC units like Rica for ToA, cleansers like Anavel for starter R5, and Perna for rifts.
- Dimensional hole energy should be spent as soon as possible, always try to stay under the energy cap (recharge rate: 1 per 2h). 2A Kro first, then Spectra or Raoq.

2023.06.10 05:21 TheDarkstarChimaera Thief in the June 27 Balance Patch
Source I'm Iskarel. I maintain the PvE Thief builds and guides on
Snow Crows With a PvE perspective, I'm going to run through the changes, discuss their impact, and talk about current meta builds and how they're impacted.
Want the build-by-build cliff notes? Skip to the bottom, search for "tl;dr"
I know this is a lot. Think of it as a reference document.
A LOT has changed. The builds aren't unrecognizable but the texture has changed almost across the board.
Flanking is Dead (for most endgame bosse)
To make them more reliable in endgame PvE content, all effects that benefit when the player strikes from the flank or from behind now always apply their benefits when striking defiant foes.
Not all players know that "flanking" or "from behind or the sides" just means—don't be in front of the target.
Ever used a build with Thief runes? Just don't stand directly in front of the target.
What fewer players will know is that there's a small set of skills that actually need you to be ~180-degrees behind your target.
- Thief Backstab (deals double damage from behind)
- Thief Sword Stealth Attack (only dazes from behind)
- Ranger Greatsword Hilt (dazes from the front, stuns from behind. This basically doesn't matter in PvE)
- Mesmer Downstate phantasm (deals more damage if the phantasm hits from behind. Hey it's like a Thief!)
Which way does Keep Construct face when it descends back to the arena after the orb-rift-push phase?
Which way does Sabetha face during her Flame Wall?
I'm not going to answer these questions because the answers don't matter anymore! This skill expression is now gone.
Just backstab from any angle.
Ah but "defiant foes"? What
isn't included there?
Can you backstab Primordus in the Harvest Temple strike if your group stays on the left vs right side, when looking from the center towards the dragon?
You would have to be on the right side. The left is the dragon's face.
Which way does Conjured Amalgamate face?
When approaching CA's platform, it is facing to your right. This also applies to the hands. Stand on the left side of the platform, and "above" the hands (closer to the portal leading away from this encounter).
Which way do the hands on Adina face?
2 o'clock (north), 5 o'clock (northwest), 7 o'clock (south), 10 o'clock (southeast)
No, I don't know why.
Just use your rifle and pierce two hands with Spotter's Shot + Death's Judgment! That's better than remembering these facing positions.
These are non-defiant "prop" type enemies. Also included here is Drakkar, the Octovine, and Tequatl. IIRC.
BTW Drakkar is made up 17 prop pieces, and you can only cast Deadeye's Mark on one of them. Don't play Deadeye here, you're trolling yourself. :D
Acrobatics Mental Gymnastics
Yeah this ain't it, chief. This is still a defensive and mobility-oriented traitline.
The damage modifier in Endless Stamina can't compete with Deadly Arts or Critical Strikes, even when combined with the Power in Swinder's Equilibrium.
The other stuff is maybe interesting for solo open world champions but Shadow Arts is already quite capable at that, and Condition Thief has a lot more toys to work with when solo compared to Power.
It's something but this traitline still feels ironically directionless.
Improvisational Theater of War
Improvisation: This trait now reduces the cooldowns of all utility skills by a certain percentage when you steal, instead of recharging a random skill.
Previously: this trait would randomly reset one of your utility skills, with a cooldown on the effect. If it chose a skill already on cooldown, it would have no effect. It could not reset the cooldown of an un-triggered but prepared Preparation.
Interesting! We can now use this trait predictably, resetting the cooldown of all our utility skills. On the surface that's good because it means we'll always get value out of the reset...unless our skill uses are staggered. More on that later.
Mag Bomb Delenda Est.
Currently this skill's damage-per-cast-time is roughly double that of Daredevil Staff 2, Weakening Charge. Notably, the cast time is short because it pulses damage.
The coefficient we have on the wiki, drawn from the Game's API, is 4.10. ANet lists a 1.50 (per hit, so 4.50 total) nerfed to 0.70. So... Uh...
Let's say Throw Magnetic Bomb's damage is nerfed to 50% of its current damage. Or there about.
So next patch, one Throw Magnetic Bomb is close to the damage of one Staff 2, but the damage comes out over time (during our Assassin Signet burst) and the cast animation is faster than Staff 2.
But is it worth losing Executioner?
Probably not. Executioner is approximately 9.52% damage on a fight that spends 50% of its time above 50% target HP and 50% of time below (due to Ferocious Strikes).
That's a lot of damage to be made up by another use of a stolen skill!
Daredevil's Bound to be Good
Bound: Increased power coefficient from 1.75 to 3.5
This ratchets up the damage of our dodge so that it beats the damage-per-cast-time of Punishing Strikes (skill 1 part C) and Staff 5, while still losing to Staff Strike and Staff Bash (skill 1 parts A/B), Staff 2, and Fist Flurry/Palm Strike.
This damage increase is valuable because
- (A) it makes dodging better for damage, on top of the damage modifiers provided by Havoc Specialist and Bounding Dodger
- (B) if we get excess endurance from our helpful allies, burning it off to maintain our modifiers hurts our DPS less on the future patch.
Auto chain go brrrr
Staff Strike, Staff Bash: Increased power coefficient.
... Uh oh.
This increase the DPS of the first and second part of the chain well beyond the last hit.
The optimal DPS rotation now involves interrupting the chain after the 2nd hit.
That's not easy to do on most professions, which have a limited number of viable interrupts, but we're Thief, baby!
Staff Strike, Staff Bash, Weakening Charge. Repeat. Throw in a Fist Flurry. Save your Palm Strike. Yeah. This sort of thing.
Calculations done by REMagic42 (
training-accident-36 ) show the following
A not insignificant DPS increase provided by this (unintended?) balance predicament.
You could just not do this. That's up to you. The build is getting buffed by ~4,000 DPS next patch but it still has all the old problems. Don't know those?
Read here Let's Get Physical (Lights out, follow the noise)
Various Physical Skill cooldown reductions
These are neat and strictly a positive.
Left, a great player who provides benchmarks for Power and Condition Daredevil, already tested Condition Daredevil with cooldown-traited Impairing Daggers and found them simply worse in group content vs Devourer Venom. You can read more on his
benchmark.
So the Impairing Daggers cooldown reduction (CDR) doesn't matter to us.
A cooldown reduction for Channeled Vigor would've been cool!
This skill basically gives you a get-out-of-jail-free dodge if you're ever scared that burning all your dodges for Havoc Specialist will leave you vulnerable. You can get a dodge with Withdraw on a shorter cooldown but that travels backwards from your facing direction which can be scary.
This skill is also very useful for maintaining Lotus Training uptime when playing Condition Daredevil. If you can't keep hitting the boss with your auto-attack chain and F1 Steal, you will run out of endurance and lose your condition damage buff. Use Channeled Vigor to maintain buff uptime when you can't hit the boss. (This tip comes from Left!)
Impact Strike is still worse defiance-bar to cooldown ratio vs Basilisk Venom, but any improvement is nice. This skill is good when you can't guarantee all hits of Basilisk Venom will hit your target, or when you need to CC more frequently than Basilisk's cooldown allows.
Death-onate Plasma and "Boon Thief"
Farewell, Boon Thief. Without Quickness, we can no longer role-compress all those shiny boons in Plasma into a Quickness Build.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that the damage of Detonate Plasma will not be worth its cast time purely from a DPS perspective, especially on a Condition Build, but you might still get some boon uptime from Daredevils on fights like Matthias and Twin Largos' Kenut.
You can now permanently sunset your Celestial/Ritualist gear for Boon Thief. Will you use it for Alacrity Specter later? I don't now, I don't know how much Alacrity is given by that trait. We'll talk more later. :)
Also Icebrood Saga exists
These really don't matter. Unstable Reagent is maybe a DPS increase, I don't have a log with it for cast time.
This is NOT Unstable Artifact BTW. That skill is still worth using for both Power and Condition DPS.
Cursed Artifact is like throw-Plaguelands, and an Ethereal field at that. It's free real estate on the Condition Build.
Time in a Bottle is squad-wide alacrity AND quickness. Take that, Chronomancer! It's only found in Cold War and randomly in EoD strikes. :)
Dumbed-down-eye
Deadeye Stolen Skill splash support
Stolen Skills now grant their beneficial effects around the caster.
These are mostly "splash" uptimes of boons, but you can also get superspeed and a modest heal. Neat! Deadeye providing a token amount of squad value beyond its DPS and CC output.
Deadeye Malicious Intent buff
Malicious Intent: Increased Malice gain from 1 to 2 in PvE only
This is actually big!
Firstly, this increases the damage dealt by the lower difficulty
Be Quick or Be Killed Dagger Deadeye rotation (if you've ever heard someone described Dagger Deadeye as 5111151115111, that's this).
1 more Malice pip after each Mark and Stealth attack boost the damage modifier of Malicious Backstab. This should be approximately +800 DPS for the Backstabs alone (Backstab DPS will increase by 7.6%), but this rotation might take advantage of the reduced Shadow Flare cooldown.
Secondly, this is wonderful for the Dagger-Dagger Maleficent Seven rotation.
All Power Dagger skills (Heartseeker, Dancing Dagger, Cloak & Dagger) are single-damage packet skills (with the exception of Dancing Dagger when bounced from your main target, to another enemy, and back to your main target). This means they have only one chance to score a crit, and thus only one chance to earn 2 Malice instead of 1.
Power Thief derives 15% critical chance from Critical Strikes' Keen Observer trait, which demands the player stay above 75% HP. You won't have 100% uptime of this trait in many raid fights, especially if your healer is slacking. If the current Dagger Deadeye benchmark was performed at 75% player HP, without drastically altering gear to accommodate for the missing critical chance, the benchmark could lose up to 12,000 DPS!, dropping it nearly into support territory.
This Malicious Intent buff gives you a safety cushion for one of those Initiative skills to score a non-crit, making the rotation more robust in endgame encounters. It does NOT reduce the minimum number of Initiative skills needed to reach maximum Malice: that is still 3 with Malicious Intent and 4 without. It does reduce the maximum needed by 1 skill, which is also great!
Quickly Fire For Effect
This trait no longer requires a target to grant boons to allies.
Er, it doesn't require one right now. Specifically, if you Mark a target, you can use your F2 and gain boons even if your stolen skill is obstructed by terrain. If you have your enemy targeted while outside 1,500 range you will get an
out of range error that stops you from casting F2, but simply untargeting the enemy will let you use the skill to get boons. If you are obstructed or out of range, you don't hit the target.
I assume what this means is that if you do NOT have a marked target, you can cast a cantrip to get a new F2. That's cool and rather handy for the new Quickness build.
Shadow Flare isn't real, it can't hurt you
Shadow Flare: Reduced cooldown from 30 to 20 seconds. This skill only damages once instead of pulsing. Activate the flip-over Shadow Swap to trigger another damage instance from your original location.
Deadeye dumbed down. Navigating self-reveal with pulsing damage skills on DPS Deadeye has been a hallmark of modern builds for several years—Shadow Flare for Power, Thousand Needles for Condition.
That problem is now eliminated for Power. You don't need to know the timing, you don't need to know where to throw Shadow Flare. Just Do your backstab, cast Shadow Flare for one damage packet, cast it again, go for another Backstab. No fuss, no skill expression, no frustration, no learning curve.
I don't like this change, I understand why other people like this change. I think it's dumb to change this. If you don't like self-reveal, consider not playing the class that uses Stealth and Revealed for its DPS output.
Fun in the Chamber
One in the Chamber: This trait now also increase the damage of F2 Stolen Skills in addition to its previous effects
In case anyone is unfamiliar with Deadeye—it doesn't have access to any core Stolen Skills. No Mag Bombs here!
This is a nice perk. The important thing is that this trait gives us an extra F2 charge every time we use a Stolen Skill...That's for Quickness.
This trait is also valuable to Condition Deadeye builds (particularly since there's a 4/9 chance they get a stolen skill that applies damaging conditions!) and to Power Pistol-Pistol Deadeye. See more of that
here.
Binding Shadow, my beloved
Binding Shadow - Reduced cooldown from 30 to20 seconds in PvE.
Cool! I love—
This skill now immobilizes marked targets instead of knocking them down
Oh. Uhhh it already immobilized them. I assume it immobilizes them more? That sucks, this was an amazing breakbar skill, particular on Condition Deadeye where it applied several poison stacks (natively, and via Panic Strike with Immobilize) and gave an extra F2 charge from One in the Chamber.
It's lower cooldown on boonstrip which is neat? Matches No Pain No Gain time in Fractals, I suppose.
Just use a Power Mesmer, they passively breathe boonstrip.
Quickness Deadeye builds
Three options!
Oops! All cantrips This option will spam out cantrip like nobody's business to meet the voracious demand of Might uptime.
Fire For Effect grants 8 stacks of Might for 12 seconds. The with-Alacrity cooldown of Cantrips are: 16 (Binding Shadow, Shadow Flare), 20 seconds (Malicious Restoration heal), 25 seconds (Mercy, Shadow Gust). When using Mercy, the cooldown of F1 is effectively the cooldown of Mercy, plus minimally the cast time of the F2, plus the cast time of F1 again.
So some of our Might is locked behind 25+ seconds. Building for 100% Might Duration would be devastating for our DPS output. We could cover 100% Might uptime with a single trio of F2 casts anyway—Binding Shadow, Malicious Restoration, Shadow Flare—but that would not take tactical advantage of the natural Deadeye's Mark cooldown.
Instead, we'll cover Quickness with two sets of F2 casts, staggered across the duration of our Might stacks. Left has an old benchmark demonstrating this technique.
So that's our 24-might upkeep option. It's not pretty, and it's Cantrip spam. ANet said we wouldn't have this in the game anymore.
Well, what if we don't have to generate Might?
Then we have two options:
3 cantrips with no Improvisation This option will maintain a burst of 24 might as we apply quickness, or we can space out the stolen skills to maintain at least 8 stacks indefinitely. Sounds pretty good!
Improvisation We'll probably still be using Shadow Flare because it's just good damage, and Improvisation selects for builds that use active utility skills, not passive signets. We might even be able to use Malicious Intent instead of One in the Chamber for this build, earning us more damage on Malicious Backstab.
So we have options.
Quickness Deadeye weapon options (We don't have those! )
Maleficent Seven is the only equalizer at work that allows bad weapons to do somewhat okay, and without that, we're back to shopping with the to the usual harsh restriction of "the best single skill out of all these weapons crushes the validity of all other options".
Stealth attacks? Naw, just spam F2s without Malice.
"Filler" initiative skills used to build up to an Initiative reset at max Malice? Nope, don't care, whatever has the best initiative-to-damage ratio is what we're running.
Thief Dagger is about matched with Thief sword for auto attack damage but Dagger is home to the centralizing Cloak & Dagger → Backstab combo. This does huge damage from any direction—flanking is gone!
Sword, by contrast, suffers a DPS loss when using any dual wield skill, Headshot, or Black Powder. The only DPS gain skills are Cloak & Dagger (but the stealth attack for sword is BARELY worth using, you could actually just cast Cloak & Dagger twice in a row and do just as well), and Sword 2...without using the return-to shadowstep. Meaning Sword 2 has a 15-second cooldown. Just to do slightly more than the auto-attack.
Need CC? Pack an off-hand pistol and fill time with auto-attacks, they're very good.
What about Pistol?
It's just weaker.
Shortbow?
It sucks really bad against single targets.
Rifle? This is the sniper spec!
It sucks if you don't have Maleficent Seven for infinite Initiative and either stealth utility skills or Silent Scope to unlock Death's Judgment.
Specter, rant about single-target/ally-target support
Ally-targeted scepter skills now also grant a lesser effect to additional allies in a radius around the target.
I don't know why ANet is so obsessed with single target support for PvE Specter, but they'll learn its untenable eventually. They've been gradually walking back the single target focus ever since release, and we are now about 15 months past Specter's official release and coming up on 2 years since it's beta.
Ally-targeting is clunky.
Single-target support is nonviable. We have encounters that apply arena damage to all players, and each player in the squad can take damage from the same AoE and it's the healer's job to keep the whole team up.
A "lesser effect". Reduced duration? Great, what's the point of that? You might as well just make it all the reduced duration.
Does "splashed" Shadow Sap not even grant protection to the other allies? Great, we won't use it.
Hopefully this will just be something like reduced Barrier or Healing, and the Boons are intact, but it's already been confirmed by the new member of the design team, Trig, on a Twitch Stream (Mighty Teapot's?) that Endless Night will not give Quickness to "splashed" allies.
Maybe this skill shouldn't give quickness at all. Why is the design team not skill splitting? What are they afraid of?
The Dark Side of Scepter Splash
If you paid attention to Specter during its beta testing, you might be aware of a
very weird build that used Endless Night (Scepter Pistol dual wield beam skill that granted quickness and 7-packets of Barrier to 3 allies, if you could pierce through the allies).
This rotation was initially theorycrafted by Left when Specter was first showed off. I did some early proof-of-concept on the build, then Left took it over and improved it to around 51,000 DPS.
That's a lot of damage!
Watch that video briefly, and notice how I swap between the enemy and my allies, applying one skill to the target then the Endless Night beam to my allies.
When Specter applies barrier to an ally, they receive a stack of Rotwallow Venom, which applies a short-duration stack of torment to a single enemy just like normal venoms.
Each cast of Endless Night back then was 21 applications of Rotwallow Venom, with more Torment duration than we have now.
ANet killed that build back during beta by making the beam target a single enemy, nerfing the quickness application, nerfing Rotwallow Venom duration, nerfing Specter's Torment damage modifier, nerfing Consume Shadows to require charging up.... The list goes on.
Why do I bring this up?
Scepter Autos on Allies
Currently the scepter auto chain applies 54 seconds of Torment (in the form of multiple stacks). If the scepter auto chain can instead apply barrier to 3 allies, then this balloons to 72 seconds without Strength of Shadows, or 108 seconds with Strength of Shadows.
Yes.
The auto-attack chain will be twice as strong when targeting allies, vs targeting the enemy.
Endless Night is not worth using against an enemy target, but it might be worth using on allies. This rotation won't have room for auto attacks, so I'm not pinning any hopes to this.
No, the optimal damage rotation will probably be Twilight combo, Siphon, and Shroud skills on the enemy, then filling time with Scepter skills on allies. We will probably spend less time in Shroud because those autos are just so cracked...
Second Opinion, moving away from Consume Shadows
Ever since beta all forms of Specter have run Consume Shadows—Alacrity, DPS, Heal. This is because Consume Shadows can apply barrier to allies, giving them Rotwallow venom. The other adept traits are purely defensive, so they're not used by the DPS and Alacrity builds...and Consume Shadows is an extremely potent healing tool. So potent, it's been nerfed repeatedly!
Charged time reduced from instant to 4 seconds, maximum shroud cut by more than 50%, conversion ratio reduced from 100 to 50%
Second Opinion will grant bonus Condition Damage, more with a Scepter. This should be, at minimum, +80/+80, which will beat the ~800 DPS provided by perfect Rotwallow Venom application from Consume Shadows.
Perfect?
If your allies are too injured and Consume Shadows only heals them overflowing into Barrier, you won't give them Rotwallow.
Traversing Dusk no longer gives Alacrity
This is just a heal trait now. That's just what it does.
Shadestep is the new Alacrity trait
Oh. Uh. I'll keep it quick.
- This reduces our gameplay from 2 separate rotations with their own quirks and different Shroud lengths, to 1—the DPS rotation.
How do you give alacrity? Just go into shroud and push buttons.
How do you do DPS? Just go into shroud and push buttons.
Alacrity Specter's Well cooldowns were inaccessible inside Shadow Shroud because we inherited a shroud, not just a kit like Druid's Celestial Avatar or Holosmith's Photon Forge.
Druid Spirits off cooldown while in CA? Don't care, you can push em.
Specter wells off cooldown while in Shadow Shroud? You might be gaining DPS from shroud skills, or healing from Consume Shadows, but you're losing Alacrity uptime. Is that tradeoff worth it?
Doesn't matter anymore. Just do the benchmark DPS rotation.
You're too slow? Then your alacrity uptime will suffer. You need to be on pace with going in and out of shroud, just like the DPS rotation. Difference is, if you're bad at this, it's going to frustrate other people.
This is not the hardest rotation in game to optimize and you of course have the option to make it easier with Ritualist gear (which you should do anyway if you plan to still run Consume Shadows, will be a two-fold personal DPS loss).
\2. Ever been kicked out of Shroud by incoming damage in a raid/strike/open world meta? No more Alacrity uptime for you. Better refill your Shadow Force quickly—and Larcenous Torment generates Shadow Force FAR more slowly than Traversing Dusk
Fun fact: Traversing Dusk's 1% Shadow Force per ally in your shadowstep scales indefinitely, not just up to 5 players. That gives you colossal Shadow Force generation in crowded metas and even raids.
Want to use your Siphon on ally? No you don't, that's valuable Shadow Force generation you need to maintain tempo for Alacrity.
Again, you can wear Ritualist gear to soften this loss.
Want to have the utility of Well of Bounty? Well, previously that utility was tied to your Alacrity uptime, your DPS uptime (lingering outside shroud for Well of Bounty was a loss), and your healing output (Traversing Dusk, and maintaining tempo in/out of Shadow Shroud for Consume Shadows).
Now you can take Well of Bounty and have it on demand, at a DPS loss.
Previously you could have just take advantage of the long Stability duration to cast this well early, or delay it slightly to cover the mechanic.
How much DPS will ANet allow this build to have?
We don't know. And now it's DPS is very closely tied to the DPS build because they're doing nearly the exact same thing.
This has never happened to Firebrand, trust me.
tl;dr It's dangerous to read all that up there! Skip to here!
Condition Daredevil
Unchanged by Impairing Daggers cooldown reduction
Power Daredevil
Buffed to ~38.6 if you do the old rotation.
Buffed to 40.2 if you do the new degenerate 1a 1b 2 1a 1b 2 rotation that interrupts our auto chain.
Still screwed by all the usual stuff.
Mag Bomb damage normalized. Cool. Still amazing utility on that skill.
Boon Thief
Dead. Deadeye killed it.
Power Dagger Deadeye
Much easier to play. Splashes some cute boons onto its subgroup, at random. Have to see if Shadow Flare is still worth using. Hopefully, right?
Power Rifle Deadeye
Silent Scope uses Shadow Flare, I hope that's still worth using.
No need to flank with Premeditation Rifle is nice. Swapping Impact to an Accuracy sigil (or not doing that, and losing crit chance) was ~1,200 DPS loss, so that's avoided. I don't mind losing flanking here that much because Flanking wasn't make-or-break adrenaline pumping like dagger. It was just a boring loss.
Quickness Deadeye
I hope you like pushing 5 and 1 a whole lot because that's almost all this is. Also pushing cantrips for F2 charges to provide quickness.
It will play okay, but pretttttttttty similar to utility-spam builds that people hate, with the added bonus of casting TWO skills for every application of quickness.
You can tune this to your liking BUT
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MANY WAYS THIS GAME'S ENEMIES CAN APPLY REVEALED TO YOU THEN YOU'RE IN FOR A TREAT WHEN YOU PICK UP QUICKNESS DEADEYE NEXT PATCH :D
It won't really prevent you from applying quickness but it will tank your DPS and fracture your soul.
One of us. One of us!
This is getting no changes, by the way. It'd be a huge amount of effort from the studio's programmers for one elite spec, for one profession, largely in one game mode (instanced PvE), with a small player base.
Probably just not happening. Not a question of "want to", it's a question of resource management AND doing this right.
Remember stealth-tanking Old Lion's Court? Because they didn't apply Revealed, then they only applied Revealed once and Deadeye just Shadow Melded out of it?
DPS Specter
Buffed by Second Opinion, dubiously buffed by targeting allies with the auto chain.
You can still run Consume Shadows for team healing/barrier.
Alacrity Specter
I don't know. Presumably the shroud skills will allow us to provide at least 50% uptime with a non-degenerate rotation (one that doesn't have us spending all our time in shroud). Said degenerate rotation is naturally policed by the fact our shroud absorbs incoming damage.
Will it run Consume Shadows? Not for optimal damage anymore.
Alac Share Specter
Just change your grandmaster from Strength of Shadows to Shadestep and do the normal rotation. Should do at least 50% uptime, unless Alac specter is just nonviable and can't maintain Alacrity.
