I need to be packing for a trip that I leave for in the morning, but I just spent the past almost hour and a half clearing space on my phone so I will have space on it to take pics and vids at the eras tour that I'm not even going to for another 105 days. I mean I get why I was procrastinating bc packing is a big task and is overwhelming for me, but why did I have to declutter my phone for over a hour for something that's not happening anytime soon???

Personal power was the ability to command and be obeyed, to him. Since Power ultimately was your ability to work your will on the world, being able to command other things with agency that had Power themselves, was the ultimate form of personal Power.
'Secretary Chalks!'
'Yes, Chancellor.'
'Bring me my automatic mug!'
The secretary went to hook the mug up to his powerframe. Normally, people wouldn't like being commanded with a bellow, but the Chancellor didn't have his long arms installed right now.
'Jester!'
'It's comedian, thank you very much.' Another Happy, perpetually bored, sat in his chair in a very bisexual manner. 'A comedian and a professional.'
'Tell me a joke!'
'Why did the kitchen cross the road?'
'The kitchen?'
'Because the autocorrect program was too heavy handed.'
'What? That's not-oh. Ok. That's pretty clever.'
'Don't forget to tip.'
The Chancellor needed some revelry, and a hot drink. He was back on Kalabria after a whirlwind Concordat, and personally exhausted. Dealing with non clones, especially after they had made their disgust clear, was unpleasant. Using them for money was one thing, but listening to them moan and complain about rights and duties and stations was too much. That old system was dead, killed in the war, and the clones had long short circuited it before. He didnât care, though. The past was past. Time for the present.
The present had a present from the Vaa. As part of their bond buy, they had provided access to superconductors, and the facilities to make them. Previously, the clones had attempted to develop physical superconductors on their own. These experiments had not gotten off the ground. Their knowledge of physics was limited; despite devoting over a thousand personnel and extensively building out lab spaces, they had made very little progress. Building new laboratory equipment, overhauling their compendium of known information, and literally re-writing the textbooks hadnât been enough. They had experienced massive leaps in knowledgeâŚwhich were apparently what the wider cluster could achieve in about four monthâs time. Research was not their forte. Learning on the job, using existing resources, and practical engineering were all that they could handle.
And that was what they were doing. After the factories had been set up, the Vaa had found themselvesâŚsidelined. Automation aside, the clones had begun to take over the factories, steadily working their way up and in. Not that the Vaa had minded. The clones had embarked on their first big project: replacing the entire grid with superconducting wires. This had massively increased the amount of power that could be moved around, eliminating the loss of power to conventional friction. So happy were the Vaa that they hadnât expect the clonesâ next trick to come so quickly: developing superconducting motors. These were capable of driving vehicles much more efficiently, reducing the size of battery packs and improving the amount of cargo carried.

âTheyâre giving us POWER! INCREDIBLE! POWER!â

The Vaa could have done enough to just give the clones superconductor production facilities. They certainly could have packed up and called it good. But they had promised propulsion, and, wellâŚthe clones had no chance to develop nuclear fusion on their own. Even as the clones continued to roll out superconductor production and diversify its applications into such things as electromagnetic mass drivers, the Vaa quickly established a set of factories to build fusion reactors. The most immediate benefit of this was to provide Kalabria with access to the clustersâ most useful power source. This took a bit longer than normal; fuel supplies had to be set up, and clones trained to operate these powerful devices. Many were made for the end user to set and forget, simple, helpfulâand harder to parse.

âAmuse me, comedian!â
âThe bestâŚaidâŚplans of mice and man oft go awry.â

The clones had their reactors and fabrication facilities, they were steadily ending bottlenecks, and they didnât even need to worry about pollution anymore. The Vaa had tried to teach the clones how these phenomena worked. Unfortunately, giving the clones more information had just made them more perplexed. Their science was based on empirical observations, reverse engineering, and refinements of the body of knowledge that clones were allowed to have. It had precious little experimental work, advanced mathematics, or actual philosophy of science; and sprang from necessity, not joy.
This was illustrated when the clones attempted to develop superconductor-based electronics. After the usual confusion over quantum mechanics that everyone suffers, the Vaa trying and failing to explain why production failures were happening, they began to realize just how deep the vacuum went. A turning point came when one Vaa mentioned that there was a good way to miniaturize fNMRI machines mid-lesson. The clones asked what NMRI was.
âThe look on their face when they heard that-â
âThe Vaa donât usually have faces. Not like that.â
âThen what did they show me, comedian?â
âA UI. That was a UI. To make it easier to relate to them.â
The clones did not have computing requirements, outside of their legacy personal internet, that needed powerful electronics. Generally, factories used large mainframes, while mini and microcomputers handled most clerical tasks. Networking facilities in bigger organizational levels, replacing government bureaucracy with computer systems, and even simplified self-driving vehicles and continuing industrial automation did not require massive advancements in hardware. Application requirements had all been met by existing chipsets, and the barriers now were in code design, computing theory, and programmer skills. Word of mouth and on the job training made up for the rest.
None of the Vaa wanted to be around self-driving vehicles after that. Nor did they want to âburden the spaceplanes too muchâ. Many were left with a bitter taste profile in their human brains, and a desire to work remotely. Everything had worked out as intended. Clone power problems were solved, economic indicators were way up, and Kalabriaâs lights never went out. And yet-well, they had uncovered the secondary rot of the Shining Empire. Information was never to be open, knowledge not to be known. They had helped. It had revealed just how much more help was needed.

âThis isnât a good thing. Leaving the Vaa disappointed is a bad thing. They genuinely want to help.â

I dont have a lot of memories of what im about to tell you but i do have some things that can help you search for the show. All I rember is that their was a chiken that was biking down an inclined road with about 4 baguette in a basket. I think the chiken wad biking becuase he was in the Tour de France but thats only a theory.
The only other things i rember is that the show was defentely a kid show also all the main characters might have been animales that were children and i think that the man cast had a blimp that they usted to travel around the world but after that i don't remeber much.
The only show that i think it could be is little Einstieins but im not sure.
I don't rember the channel that showed it but I now it was a Puerto Rican kid network that would broad cast kid shows. But their is one thing about the network I remenber it's that it's logo had a green slime backroud and that it had a short..

I was recently laid off from my 9-5 corporate job. Iâm currently home on unemployment and as you can imagine Iâm constantly thinking about my next steps.
I have a bachelors degree in finance that I loosely used in my prior work but I have always loved beauty. So much so that I wanted to be a cosmetologist or esthetician when I grew up. Then bills, marriage and 2 kids later it didnât pan out that way obviously.
However I still love the beauty industry but I donât know if now is a good time to make the jump into esthetics school. Cost aside estheticians that work for others donât make a ton and going solo would take time. I did a tour of a school last week and consulted with my husband already so itâs on the table, but Iâd like hear from people that work/worked in the beauty industry on your perspective of career alternatives.

Hey all! This is my first post on Reddit, I joined because of the awesome AnCo community on here. I've been trying to avoid any spoilers related to the Avey tour, because almost every time I've seen AnCo I see too many spoilers on social media about the setlist beforehand. I've never seen any of em' solo, so I want to be completely surprised! Anyway haha to get to the point, I'm seeing Avey in Chicago with my bf. We're coming out of state and don't know the area well. Does anyone know if there is a club/house music/other late-night-fun scene in the general area (Avondale) of the show? We only have one night in Chicago so we'd like to take advantage of it. We'll be walking from our hotel. I figured it was unlikely to find anything that close that's open late. A short Uber drive or L ride may work too idk, it just depends on if it's worth it. We enjoy really unique and underground types of things too. Thanks for any and all help!

Elzio Shilon, like many heroes, has grown up knowing only one purpose: Championing his nexus and homeland in Arena Battles.
But when he uncovers a plot to sacrifice his kingdom's nexus to a power-hungry rival, he must reconsider everything he knew about the nexi, their rule, and their ultimate goal for universal dominion. Instead of fighting for his people, he teams up with an Echo Nexus, a being whose sole purpose is to be farmed by a larger nexus.
Together, the two of them embark on a quest to defeat the nexi, not for power or glory, but for the salvation of mortal-kind.

Elzio and Echo met back up with Syrene and Carlin at the tavern. Nothing but pleasantries were exchanged as the small team put in orders for food and gathered drinks from the innkeeper. Their conversation was light and shallow, discussing the various neat and interesting things they had found on their first day of vacation, or whatever this trip was supposed to be for them. They had to keep a low profile. Genyl could be crawling with enemies, even knowing Ashlightâs extended alliance.
Both Syrene and Carlin wore similar expressions, expressions that were bursting with stifled information. Elzio was sure his face, however controlled, must have a similar energy radiating off it. Even Echo glimmered with anticipation, and most people couldnât even see her.
It wasnât until they were safely in their room that the dams finally broke forth.
Elzio held up a hand the minute they walked in, indicating that he would absolutely be going first. Certainly what the others had to say would be informative, but as far as grand strategy went, the newfound alliance between Ashlight and Echo would be the most groundbreaking.
What was almost disappointing was how little surprise Carlin and Syrene reacted with. Both certainly seemed pleased with the development, a wide smile on Carlinâs broad face and a thoughtful twinkle in Syreneâs eye. But neither seemed surprised.
âYeah, I was hoping theyâd find you,â Carlin said, leaning back on the bed and popping some remaining pork rinds in his mouth. âTurns out a lot of people here have been holding out hopes that we would stop by, make Genyl a similar offer to you made Ythrel. They seemed really receptive to the idea of working together. Lotta folks angry at Deluuth forâŚâ He swallowed, smile slipping. âVarious war crimes.â
âAshlightâs progressive nature is well known among her people.â Syrene smiled approvingly as she leafed through one of the books sheâd borrowed from the library. âIt wasnât the primary thing I looked at while there, but I wanted to check out a few history books while perusing the shelves. At first they kept this a secret, afraid that other nations would try to attack them, steal their resources. After a while, however, it became obvious that even the kingdoms with the most complex spy networks never paid any mind to their advanced technology, quality of life, so on. If what youâre saying is right, then it would be because no other nation has cared enough to try.â
âEven more than not caring, they actively donât want to.â Carlinâs voice grew louder. âAll the stuff Tylin and I worked for, a better world for the people, he always said bureaucracy got in the way. Process upon process, hearings and endless arguing, and it turns out in the end, they just didnât want the country to improve. War and conquest were all that mattered.â
Elzio held up a hand. âDonât raise your voice too much. We may be tentatively aligned, but there remains more to be discussed before we want any casual listener to overhear our discussions. And none of this precludes spies or enemy agents.â
Carlin exhaled, and as his lungs deflated, so too did his body. âIâm sorry. Youâre right. I just⌠I donât know. It feels like weâre fighting against something too big. What if the people just turn and worship another nexus? What if they reject any kind of civil rule? What if it was all for nothing?â
Syrene stood up from the desk, settling next to him on the bed. She placed a hand on his arm, her thin, scholarâs hands pale against his broad shoulder.
âYouâre exactly where you should be,â she said. âWhat youâre doing here, it might not have been what you thought progress looked like, but it is where you need to be.â
âYeah. Yeah Iâm in the exact right place to change the world.â Carlin sounded the opposite of cheered by this. âBut at what cost? What did I have to lose to get here? If we die here, none of it was worth it.â
Revolutions do not spread without casualties. Echoâs light flickered back to her as she grew back to her normal size. Your brother did not want what happened to him, of this I am certain. But what you have made out of it, what you are doing now? That is of merit. You have spent the early parts of your life learning what you find interesting, practicing skills you enjoy, with the faint idea that one day you may be able to use them. You did what you wanted. Her voice wasnât scolding, but Carlin winced under her words regardless. All that time, your brother toiled to make a change in the world, one that would last. He laid out the road for you to walk. Walk it.
Carlin blinked furiously, before wiping a hand against his eyes and sighing. âYouâre right. I know you are.â
âChange takes time,â Elzio said. He hadnât known quite how to hop into the conversation before, not without being tactless. Echo hadnât either, but that hadnât stopped her. âMaybe youâre right, maybe this generation of people will reject their freedom because they lost their nexi. But unless another nexus does come around, that discontent will fade.â
âAnd what are the odds that happens?â Carlinâs face, now hopeful, turned to Echo.
I do not know. I would have to meditate on it.
This was, perhaps, the most fascinating thing about Echo. Her knowledge of nexi was innate and required her pondering to unlock. Neither Echo nor Elzio knew if this unlocking came with levels or if it simply was a matter of meditation.
âLetâs keep this moving,â Elzio said. âI think we have to take up Ashlight on her offer. We canât solo Deluuth.â
âRight.â Carlin took a steadying breath. âThen if we do defeat Deluuth, that would leave Genyl in charge of the continent?â
This wasnât something Elzio had considered before, but the idea wasnât unpleasant by any means. âI suppose it would.â
Do you think this is all a ploy from Ashlight to gain control? Echoâs question was directed solely to Elzio.
That would be a century long con, he responded. Unless youâre claiming her attempts at creating peace and progress in Genyl was just to coax other nations into joining her, but given how unsuccessful that was until we arrived, I feel as though it isnât.
Unless she did see us coming and simply lied about us being blindspots. Echo wasnât letting this go.
By that argument, Elzio said, everything weâre doing is playing into her hand! Thereâs no way to win if you assume theyâre lying about everything and this is all some power play.
That is how we must think if dealing with nexi. You will learn that in time.
Elzio didnât respond except to sigh, a little too loud.
âI donât!â Carlin put up his hands. âLook, the people here have been happy since Ashlight first took on the role of advisor. Thatâs been almost two centuries.â
Damn. While Elzio was talking with Echo, the conversation with Carlin and Syrene had continued, and now he was lost.
âSorry, no, I wasnât annoyed with you,â Elzio said, massaging his temples. âI think leaving the continent in Ashlightâs hands is wise.â
Syrene smiled, tipping her head. âOf course. We were just speculating whether Fathina had a child, or if the gift had been passed down otherwise.â
Ah, so thatâs where theyâd taken the conversation. It was a good question. âIâll ask when we return. But even if they donât, that doesnât mean Ashlight wouldnât be a good steward over the people.â
âWould you all mind if I actually went and asked some more direct questions tomorrow?â Carlin asked, yawning. âNow that we know they actually want to work with us, I donât need to be nearly as subtle. We want to know who weâll be fighting with.â
âI think thatâs wise,â Syrene said. âElzio, I assume youâll want to meet with their head of tactics. Perhaps spend the morning learning more about their political situation. Iâll be up at dawn to research more about multi nexi alliances, and then we can convene in the later afternoon to do some preliminary planning.â
âPerfect.â Elzio smiled, beyond pleased with how the day had gone. âIf thatâs the caseâŚâ He trailed off, less pleased now as Syrene rose from Carlinâs bed and moved to her own. âI suppose weâll need to get an early sleep.â Syrene had barely even scratched the surface of her research, and Elzio desperately wanted to learn what she had discovered.
âIn the morning,â she said, reading his disappointment. âIâm not going anywhere.â
But that clock was still ticking in his mind. If they fought Deluuth and things went south, he might very well die before learning everything the world had to offer, and that just wouldnât do.

Ashlight and Fathina wasted no time in jumping into the details of their planning meeting the moment all parties convened. Their rush confused Elzio at first; with nations unwilling and unprepared to ever actually enter war with each other, there didnât seem much to lose from taking their time.
Then he noticed the amount of guards around the room. Around Fathina specifically. He noticed how anxious she seemed, the way her hands fidgeted, her eyes darting about, how she jumped at small noises. Was there someone she expected? Was she setting them up?
But she didnât really look guilty. She looked just afraid, even as the other party members entered, even as she smiled and nodded through all of their introductions. Finally, once Syrene arrived, Fathina rose and smiled.
âIâm going to fetch our heroesâ team lead, who is typically in charge of managing our arenas.â As she turned, a large squadron of guards followed her.
Carlin shifted, a sad look in his eyes as she left. âShe must be constantly on edge.â
âI donât understand why,â Elzio said. âDeluuth isnât going to attack their capital city.â
âThe city? No. Their councilors?â Carlin tucked a knee up on the chair, propping his chin on it. âAfter what they did in Ythrel, everyone knows Deluuth isnât playing by the rules. Killing a councilor like that? Genylâs worried theyâll come for Fathina.â
âAh.â That made sense. âAnd sheâd be the perfect target. Sheâs their most valuable asset, and the niece of the nexus. The strategic and emotional blow from her death would be even worse than that of your brotherâs.â
An exasperated sigh escaped Syreneâs mouth, something Elzio noticed before he even registered the crestfallen look on Carlinâs face. Elzio wasnât sure what he was supposed to do here. Assure Carlin that his brotherâs death had also been a strategic and emotional blow? Was he not even able to compare the fallouts of various deaths without being expected to strategically watch his every word?
He was spared responding as Fathina returned, this time with a man about a decade Elzioâs senior.
The man nodded briskly at Echo, and then at Elzio and the others. âItâs good to finally meet you,â he said. âMy name is Athin. Iâve been a hero in Genyl for over fifteen years and have overseen most of the arena crafting in that time.â
Elzioâs eyes flicked across the man as he pulled up his stats.

Certainly an impressive stats list, though Elzio had to again thank his blessed stars that he had recruited Syrene. Her 27 levels scattered across so many fields more than made up for her lack of battle experience.
Athin joined Fathina and Elzioâs party around a table, on which a holographic image of a nexus arena shone. It put Pyrthetâs similar setup to shame regarding sheer amount of detail, and the arena itself put anything he and Echo had spun up to further shame.
Not that Elzio was complaining. It was fantastic to have a real, full sized holograph to work with.
âTo start,â Fathina said, âwe must determine the rules regarding multiple nexi fighting alongside each other. Whether points may be pooled or if we will have to work with our own individual points.â
Syrene cleared her throat. âIâve done some research on that over the past few days. Iâm sure you have as well, and Iâm sure the nexi in the room have their own takes on the situation, but I do believe that while an arena may host multiple nexi, pooling resources may be impossible.â
Fathinaâs lips pressed together grimly. âYouâve read that specifically?â
âNot quite.â Syrene slipped a book out of her bag and flipped it open to a marked page. âWhat I have noted is that, in the case of Alayex versus the Brithinne brothers, the Brithinnes were unable to help each other.â Her eyes darted over the page as she read aloud. âBut alas, upon the knowledge that one brother had specialized to fight and the other defend, Alayex was able to target the weakest of the towers and force down the victory.â She looked up, green eyes somber. âThat battle is one of the only cases where multiple nexi coordinated in a single attack, and it is, as far as Iâve seen, the best recorded.â
I had not thought to consider the Brithinne brothers.
Syreneâs eyes widened at the rumbling voice of Ashlight, and Elzio had to remember that even though the woman was learned and leveled, sheâd never interacted with a high powered nexus like this.
Their attempt to achieve universal domination was short-lived. That battle ended disastrously for them, both dying at level 10. Barely worth note. But Ashlight sounded far from dismissive. Rather, she sounded intrigued. They exist deep in the recesses of my memory. I will do what I can to bring that knowledge to my awareness.
Next to him, Elzio could feel Echoâs own light pulse with a tremor he couldnât quite place.
Something on your mind? he asked directly.
I am very curious as to her tactic for unlocking her memory. Echo sounded pensive. But I will ask another time, if at all. We must focus.
It was one of the only times Elzio had heard Echo speak about the future. About improving and learning, not just unlocking her innate nexus intelligence but also finding new tactics. He smiled to himself as he turned back to the battle planning.
They were both going to survive this.
Hey all. Been a bit since I posted this story. A little bird asked why I hadn't finished.
The honest answer is, I finished this a few months ago but wasn't very happy with it. I've given it to my editors for work, but that's taking time. I'd kind of sorta planned on quietly abandoning the serialization and just post when the book was finished.
But in hindsight, that's clearly a bad practice. So I'm going to be posting the rest of this over the next few days. There will be a cleaner and better version coming after it goes through its edits. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the adventure!

Both Syrene and Carlin wore similar expressions, expressions that were bursting with stifled information. Elzio was sure his face, however controlled, must have a similar energy radiating off it. Even Echo glimmered with anticipation, and most people couldnât even see her.
It wasnât until they were safely in their room that the dams finally broke forth.
Elzio held up a hand the minute they walked in, indicating that he would absolutely be going first. Certainly what the others had to say would be informative, but as far as grand strategy went, the newfound alliance between Ashlight and Echo would be the most groundbreaking.
What was almost disappointing was how little surprise Carlin and Syrene reacted with. Both certainly seemed pleased with the development, a wide smile on Carlinâs broad face and a thoughtful twinkle in Syreneâs eye. But neither seemed surprised.
âYeah, I was hoping theyâd find you,â Carlin said, leaning back on the bed and popping some remaining pork rinds in his mouth. âTurns out a lot of people here have been holding out hopes that we would stop by, make Genyl a similar offer to you made Ythrel. They seemed really receptive to the idea of working together. Lotta folks angry at Deluuth forâŚâ He swallowed, smile slipping. âVarious war crimes.â
âAshlightâs progressive nature is well known among her people.â Syrene smiled approvingly as she leafed through one of the books sheâd borrowed from the library. âIt wasnât the primary thing I looked at while there, but I wanted to check out a few history books while perusing the shelves. At first they kept this a secret, afraid that other nations would try to attack them, steal their resources. After a while, however, it became obvious that even the kingdoms with the most complex spy networks never paid any mind to their advanced technology, quality of life, so on. If what youâre saying is right, then it would be because no other nation has cared enough to try.â
âEven more than not caring, they actively donât want to.â Carlinâs voice grew louder. âAll the stuff Tylin and I worked for, a better world for the people, he always said bureaucracy got in the way. Process upon process, hearings and endless arguing, and it turns out in the end, they just didnât want the country to improve. War and conquest were all that mattered.â
Elzio held up a hand. âDonât raise your voice too much. We may be tentatively aligned, but there remains more to be discussed before we want any casual listener to overhear our discussions. And none of this precludes spies or enemy agents.â
Carlin exhaled, and as his lungs deflated, so too did his body. âIâm sorry. Youâre right. I just⌠I donât know. It feels like weâre fighting against something too big. What if the people just turn and worship another nexus? What if they reject any kind of civil rule? What if it was all for nothing?â
Syrene stood up from the desk, settling next to him on the bed. She placed a hand on his arm, her thin, scholarâs hands pale against his broad shoulder.
âYouâre exactly where you should be,â she said. âWhat youâre doing here, it might not have been what you thought progress looked like, but it is where you need to be.â
âYeah. Yeah Iâm in the exact right place to change the world.â Carlin sounded the opposite of cheered by this. âBut at what cost? What did I have to lose to get here? If we die here, none of it was worth it.â
Revolutions do not spread without casualties. Echoâs light flickered back to her as she grew back to her normal size. Your brother did not want what happened to him, of this I am certain. But what you have made out of it, what you are doing now? That is of merit. You have spent the early parts of your life learning what you find interesting, practicing skills you enjoy, with the faint idea that one day you may be able to use them. You did what you wanted. Her voice wasnât scolding, but Carlin winced under her words regardless. All that time, your brother toiled to make a change in the world, one that would last. He laid out the road for you to walk. Walk it.
Carlin blinked furiously, before wiping a hand against his eyes and sighing. âYouâre right. I know you are.â
âChange takes time,â Elzio said. He hadnât known quite how to hop into the conversation before, not without being tactless. Echo hadnât either, but that hadnât stopped her. âMaybe youâre right, maybe this generation of people will reject their freedom because they lost their nexi. But unless another nexus does come around, that discontent will fade.â
âAnd what are the odds that happens?â Carlinâs face, now hopeful, turned to Echo.
I do not know. I would have to meditate on it.
This was, perhaps, the most fascinating thing about Echo. Her knowledge of nexi was innate and required her pondering to unlock. Neither Echo nor Elzio knew if this unlocking came with levels or if it simply was a matter of meditation.
âLetâs keep this moving,â Elzio said. âI think we have to take up Ashlight on her offer. We canât solo Deluuth.â
âRight.â Carlin took a steadying breath. âThen if we do defeat Deluuth, that would leave Genyl in charge of the continent?â
This wasnât something Elzio had considered before, but the idea wasnât unpleasant by any means. âI suppose it would.â
Do you think this is all a ploy from Ashlight to gain control? Echoâs question was directed solely to Elzio.
That would be a century long con, he responded. Unless youâre claiming her attempts at creating peace and progress in Genyl was just to coax other nations into joining her, but given how unsuccessful that was until we arrived, I feel as though it isnât.
Unless she did see us coming and simply lied about us being blindspots. Echo wasnât letting this go.
By that argument, Elzio said, everything weâre doing is playing into her hand! Thereâs no way to win if you assume theyâre lying about everything and this is all some power play.
That is how we must think if dealing with nexi. You will learn that in time.
Elzio didnât respond except to sigh, a little too loud.
âI donât!â Carlin put up his hands. âLook, the people here have been happy since Ashlight first took on the role of advisor. Thatâs been almost two centuries.â
Damn. While Elzio was talking with Echo, the conversation with Carlin and Syrene had continued, and now he was lost.
âSorry, no, I wasnât annoyed with you,â Elzio said, massaging his temples. âI think leaving the continent in Ashlightâs hands is wise.â
Syrene smiled, tipping her head. âOf course. We were just speculating whether Fathina had a child, or if the gift had been passed down otherwise.â
Ah, so thatâs where theyâd taken the conversation. It was a good question. âIâll ask when we return. But even if they donât, that doesnât mean Ashlight wouldnât be a good steward over the people.â
âWould you all mind if I actually went and asked some more direct questions tomorrow?â Carlin asked, yawning. âNow that we know they actually want to work with us, I donât need to be nearly as subtle. We want to know who weâll be fighting with.â
âI think thatâs wise,â Syrene said. âElzio, I assume youâll want to meet with their head of tactics. Perhaps spend the morning learning more about their political situation. Iâll be up at dawn to research more about multi nexi alliances, and then we can convene in the later afternoon to do some preliminary planning.â
âPerfect.â Elzio smiled, beyond pleased with how the day had gone. âIf thatâs the caseâŚâ He trailed off, less pleased now as Syrene rose from Carlinâs bed and moved to her own. âI suppose weâll need to get an early sleep.â Syrene had barely even scratched the surface of her research, and Elzio desperately wanted to learn what she had discovered.
âIn the morning,â she said, reading his disappointment. âIâm not going anywhere.â
But that clock was still ticking in his mind. If they fought Deluuth and things went south, he might very well die before learning everything the world had to offer, and that just wouldnât do.

But she didnât really look guilty. She looked just afraid, even as the other party members entered, even as she smiled and nodded through all of their introductions. Finally, once Syrene arrived, Fathina rose and smiled.
âIâm going to fetch our heroesâ team lead, who is typically in charge of managing our arenas.â As she turned, a large squadron of guards followed her.
Carlin shifted, a sad look in his eyes as she left. âShe must be constantly on edge.â
âI donât understand why,â Elzio said. âDeluuth isnât going to attack their capital city.â
âThe city? No. Their councilors?â Carlin tucked a knee up on the chair, propping his chin on it. âAfter what they did in Ythrel, everyone knows Deluuth isnât playing by the rules. Killing a councilor like that? Genylâs worried theyâll come for Fathina.â
âAh.â That made sense. âAnd sheâd be the perfect target. Sheâs their most valuable asset, and the niece of the nexus. The strategic and emotional blow from her death would be even worse than that of your brotherâs.â

So this is my first "big" trip if you will as a Farefire - been all over Canada/US/Mexico (from Canada). I decided on a whim to book a 12 day trip to Dubai this Wednesday. Always wanted to go, used to be super psyched and seemed like Valhalla, after a lot of research my expectations are a bit tempered, but I'm still excited to go on a trip there. (meaning I don't plan on finding some tax haven, live there 6 months deal, more as a tourist now is all I expect).
As a first timer (solo, male, 40's) - any fatfire recommendations? Staying in the marina, there 12 days. Besides all the usual touristy stuff which I plan to cram in.
I'm not a foodie - super fancy dining won't be up my alley. I do like fancy cars/supercars, so anything related to that is my thing (car meets, cool places you can tour, etc).
I'd ideally like to ride ATV's and camels in the desert. I know, this might be pedestrian, but if there's a fatfire version of this let me know.

For context, have a second child as well, 6 months old, so almost 7 year split. Oldest doesn't act jealous at all. He's pretty busy - after school program (taekwondo) each day till 4:30, then also curling, swimming, and fiddle lessons during the weekdays, curling and downhill skiing on the weekends. He's always up for an adventure, and can charm the pants off anyone.
He's quite independent, he's not the best at school but above average. He's not clingy or shy in any way. When out and about, he's quite well behaved. Sticks by us in parking lots, we can trust him to cross our road to the neighbours and play with their kids, looking both ways.
Every so often we catch him in a lie "the food wrapper in my room was from the babysitter!". Small stuff like that, but he owns up, and we work with him to set appropriate "groundings" - no TV for a few days, etc.
But God when we are all home, he is incessantly irritating... he just won't leave us alone. 3 of us sitting down to a meal,.and wife turns to take a video of the baby doing new and crazy things in the jolly jumper and he's instantly off his chair in front of her camera (he has to stay seated during meal times... otherwise he'd take a bite and then be off and it would take him 48 hours to clear his plate). Try to get him to get his hat, gloves, boots, jacket on to go outside, and if I get out before him, he completely forgets half the stuff and just rushes out without a hat or gloves. Send him to brush his teeth while we do dishes and get the baby ready for bed, and he's constantly screaming at us to come to see something.
We're struggling... he does some irritating things to get our attention.
And then even when he has our attention, he can't focus on a thing for more than about 1.5 minutes at a time. I'll sit down and color with him, and he literally will scribble all over the page then start acting out. Same with board games - halfway through a game he starts getting goofy and cheating.
Don't know what to do... had a long weekend and my wife is pretty much in tears she so overestimated and I'm almost as bad...
Advice? Do we have him in too much? Do we need to enforce solo play more frequently?
