2023.03.26 10:22 robinjinxed Streets testing and optimisation - 5800X3D and RTX 3090 FE

TL;DR – Got a new CPU wanted to test on Streets in a controlled-‘ish’ setting to figure some hardware tweaks out.
I built a PC just over 2 years ago with the theory it would be used for video/photo editing, music production and video games, so went kinda HAM.
Spec at build:
· Ryzen 9 5950X
· 128gb (4x32gb) 4000mhz cl18 DDR4
· RTX 3090 FE
· X570 Gigabyte Aorus Master
· LG 38GL950G-B 3840x1600 1ms G-Sync 144mhz display
· All the storage etc which isn’t important for this post.
I concluded 6 months after building it, it was never used for anything other than gaming and that game being mainly Tarkov. So this last week updated to a 5800X3D and in the process of recouping the cost with the resale of the 5950X, again not important, but in essence this change will make me a few quid too.
As a Streets main player (obviously since this wipe), I was kinda bummed the performance gains weren’t as large as hoped, although the max fps did improve 10-15 fps as did the average fps, I was still getting frame drops to less than 60 fps although less frequently, but these would still cause noticeable stutters.
Having read a few things here and there, I saw some people mention CPPC and CPPC Preferred Cores and with some Ryzen 5000 CPUs they were seeing different gains in different gains with these settings off and on in varying combinations. But having also used 1usmus CTR and later Hydra on the 5950x, was aware of the PBO options on the software (there are others out there too like PBO2), which can also be set on a 5800X3D although OC’ing is generally not possible on these CPUs, this is undervolting and tweaking power settings and the like in order to maintain higher clock frequencies for longer periods. So wanted to try this too.
Parameters for the controlled test. Streets – Offline raid – Scav numbers High – Bosses off – Easy difficulty – Scav War enabled – Weather Sunny – Daytime Raids between 0900 and 1400 – Repeated 10 times for each run and the three scored FPS results were to be averaged.
Monitoring with HWINFO and RTSS (However half way through realised 1% & 0.1% lows were not recorded, continued and will report Min/Max/Average FPS Values, as I wasn’t starting again).
I went in Chadded as I had the previous raid and ran the same gear for each test. I used a combination of stims to negate the stamina losses for sprinting around a map to follow the same path for every run in order to conduct fair testing.
The path was from the spawn where you need to break the window, down towards the car extract, along the edge of the map to the back of Lexos with the containers, run through here to the square where all the scav bodies lay by the articulated truck with loot in the back keeping to the pavement/sidewalks, into the diner an run through the back toward the playground behind Chekannaya and then take a slight right to take the road behind Primorsky 48 into the building at the far end, run back on myself down the main corridor on the ground floor once in and go the skybridge apartment, dump a 60 round mag in the bedroom here through the window, then run back into the room with the PC shoot the window here with a single shot then jump out the window over the balcony to my death. Rinse and repeat, this made it as fair a test as any I could find and would give a wide variety of fps dips and highs as I had experienced them in online raid previously. Now with the number of Scavs in the raid and the fact they were all shooting the shit out of each other the Low FPS is artificially low across all instances, this was to simulate a worst case scenario.
There are two lots of PBO2 setting as I wanted to see the best scenario for gaming: Optimised, -30 voltage offset relative to frequency on all 8 cores and the following 3 settings changed for Power, 125W (PAT), 120A (EDC) and 85A (TDC) Standard, -30 offset on all 8 cores with default power settings.
(Side note: this chip was pretty awesome, ran PBO2 at -30 with the standard power on all core stress testing for over an hour without throttling any core, this is using a 420mm AIO)
For anyone asking what CPPC is the performance scoring of each core, CPPC preferred Cores is how windows allocated the best cores in order to send the workload to appropriate cores in order to get processes performed as efficiently as possible. (Both on by default and required for PBO2 to operate).
Below data for each analysis will be shown as:
· Hardware settings
· MIN fps
· MAX fps
· Average fps

CPPC on/CPPC Preferred Cores Off

121
Default Bios/PBO2 Optimised
54
97
134
Default Bios/PBO2 Standard

Given this information concluded the PBO2 offset at default power was the most efficient for Streets anyway, however with some fine tuning could possibly find a happy medium between the optimised and standard, however as my cooling solution allows for the standard power, I will not look further into this.
The factory supplied thermal pads on the RTX 3090 FE were notoriously shit, so changed these last week when upgrading the CPU, with a current overclock set for previous thermal solution I wanted to try and tweak this OC too.
Current OC settings – 114% Power Limit, 90°C Temp limit, +50Mhz on the core and +350Mhz on the memory.
Latest stable OC setting – 114% Power Limit, 90°C Temp limit, +115Mhz on the core and +45Mhz on the memory.
I then ran the same test on the chosen CPU settings in order to see what a quieter streets would look like, with default offline raid settings, i.e. scavs set to as online for both frequency and difficulty with no bosses present all other parameters for runs the same. But also to test the new GPU OC against the old one. As I often run night raids I wanted this to be seen too. So performed day and night raids with both OCs, see below results.
PBO2/Old OC (Day)

129
PBO2/New OC (Day)
84
120
166
PBO2/New OC (Night)

134
Both these OC settings will be tested this coming week to get some actual in raid data too, in order to provide a realistic idea of what this set up offers. I will add the details in the post and in a comment below when I have it all gathered. As I also want to compare to the 75-100 FPS average (not recorded just from observing) and dips below 60 fps toward 50-52 fps using the 5950X, whether this is a worthwhile improvement above 1440p resolution, if some extra tweaking is performed.
It also struck me Streets daytime should have a higher FPS than we get at night, this in my opinion is because no fucker runs a scav at night on streets, they are all gathered there in the bloody daytime haha. More players on the map the lower the FPS. Which is definitely an option for BSG to work on optimising the map, so players out of sight are not taxing on the FPS driven locally.
I also conclude newer X3D chips may benefit from PBO2 tuning, but the mileage may vary.

2023.03.26 10:16 beatisagg D4 Beta impressions that I think some will agree with but understand if I don't speak for the majority.

Diablo IV beta impressions: Disclaimer - I did not watch a single cutscene, the story of Diablo has been kinda dear to my heart, I want to respect it and not blast through it when the game launches, so i am not partaking in it at this time. I will not be remarking on anything in terms of the lore/story/cutscene/etc choices as i'm completely oblivious and wanted to spend the limited time I had with the open beta observing how mechanics and gameplay interact and how they feel without the story having an effect on my judgement.
-Melee and Ranged focused builds seem to be at a complete disparage.
e.g.: not enough mechanics are engaging for ranged characters and too many avoid based mechanics for melee characters This leads to ranged classes and builds feeling like 'cheese' and melee builds feeling too hard in comparison for the same content - news flash, it feels bad both ways. No one feels rewarded for playing smartly, they feel rewarded for building around bad design or for picking the 'correct' build of a class when really it should be about maximizing your skill usage, NOT throwing some skills away as useless.
-UI is attrociousI had to google how to see how much lucky strike chance i had. It is hidden in a menu you click from your character screen that defaults to a pane of collectible crafting materials that you have on hand. This is flat out horrible. Other UI elements and flair seem to be attempting to both evoke 'streamlined' and 'convoluted' at the same time. Every Person you encounter in your party constantly has the emote keybinding shown next to them, which is ridiculous. The way the health and mana orbs aren't anchored to the bottom of the screen, the way the skill bar floats, the lack of overall design adherance to any modern look we've seen in some time (weirdly basic fonts, announcing status changes on your xp bar, very low amount of art involved in the ui whatsoever)
It appears to me the game's ui design team was shooting for a retro look to rekindle charm from older entrees in the series while also attempting to incorporate new social features that games of the past would not have had, but instead they ended up with something which is lacking in both form AND function, and there's no charm in that.
-Dungeon design seems really uninspired. Repetitive dungeon activities that are from 30 year old games are still hanging out here and who wants them? kill all enemies? place things on pedestals that takes a loading screen worth of bar time to place on them? find they key? I am sincerely hoping, but highly doubting, that these are early game mechanics that fade from existence after lvl 50 or so.
-Character power is tied more to items than literally anything else. I thought this was something that D3 embraced and that D4 was intentionally breaking away from. I admit that there are systems in the game we've yet to encounter, but since all we have to go off is the beta, we can easily interpret that many item affixes are more impactful than say, skill points you attain from leveling and what you elect to place them in. For instance, I have an amulet on my sorc that has +1 to all mastery skills and +1 to all defensive skills. This gives me a substantial amount of breathing room in building because it advances me down the woefully lame skill tree to a point where I can be spending points freely how i want, instead of spending them in an order that is undesired.
-Skill tree is shallow and has literally a negative impact on feeling like you're making choices to build a character e.g. A druid commits to nothing and is not rewarded for doing so either way. You HAVE to spend the points in order, you can't hit a certain level and unlock a node, you only unlock the node by wasting skill points on stuff that doesn't matter at all in your build UNLESS you get an item like I previously described that lets you escape the prison of skill point hell and put them where you actually want them. e.g. There is an illusion of choice here and it isn't that hard to see behind the veil. Each node has 2 basic 'initial' investments : skills or passives. Then they can go 'deeper' but really its moreso 'required' to maximize the skill, 1) Hydra for example has a 'buff' node behind it that allows you to spawn an extra head if you're healthy - spending this skill point is many orders of magnitude better than spending another skill point to the base hydra skill, no sane human would skip doing this. Then there is the 'choice' node behind that that seemingly is incredibly obvious based on gear. one is crit based, one is not. Do i have crit right now? no. Then i pick the other. It is a non choice. you either have what makes that 'choice' work or you don't
-open world design actively hinders the enjoyment, performance, continuity, clarity and understanding of the players. When playing with friends, if you do not select the lowest common denominator to start, no one below that point chosen progresses. This lead to me creating a necro, joining my friends, playing for about 2 hours then figuring out 'oh wait I CANT TELEPORT?!?!' unreal that it works that way... Meanwhile random people wipe the floor with world map event objectives that you struggle with (looking at the early druid experience here) performance issues are RAMPANT due to the constantly online/lobbiless world. And all for what? so you can constantly stare at the emote button and let people help/hurt your experience with no regard for anyone's personal enjoyment? I don't know who, of ANYONE, I have asked that can say why this choice was made and its a fundamental one. Why is this game an MMO now? Diablo has never been this.
-Game optimization and performance The graphics card end of things is so insanely greatly optimized its blowing peoples cards up for not restricting the frames to prevent that. But the constant streaming of data direct from disk, as well as the online aspect, lead to massive hitches in the transition phases of in and out of town/dungeon/etc that it feels attrocious. It's sad that what i'm asking for is an offline mode with LONGER loading times so that all the assets are in ram and not being streamed from my disk in real time, hitching up the process from both ends. Just feels like i'm being penalized for a design choice no one is asking for.
-The multiplayer experience is fun, I don't think I understand fully if there is any intent on trading being a thing or if the loot is so tailor made for a specific class that something like a d2 item granting a paladin teleport is off the table, at the same time I don't fully understand why with such a shallow skill tree this can't be all willy nilly. Give rogues corpse explosion if a necro trades them a ring, I don't care, that is at least fun and weird and not mundane like 'i game life per second equal to 3.5 per enemy close to me up to a max of 44.' like dude that is legendary? that is a not even primary affix level power. I digress. I just wish there was a little more reason to care what drops anyone else in the group gets. I think having a necro is kinda necessary to take some of the heat off your melee friends, even tho to me necro isn't as fun as sorc. These are personal opinions so i'm not sure I would apply them to every group of people playing, but i'd put some honest to goodness money down that in groups of four people theres at least either a sorc or a necro just based on their power and ability to alleviate the pains of melee. There are numerous weird interactions issues between cutscene skippers and not cutscene skippers that favor the skippers in a way that I can be seen used as griefing, AKA starting an encounter that leads vigo and neyressa through a cave that collapses and prompts for acceptance to move on, but the guy watching a cutscene cannot do so and gets locked out of the quest. ALL of this happened because the cut scene skipper clicked the door first. Not great and i think there needs to be WAY more leeway given to cutscene watchers (AND IM A SKIPPER)
-Graphical Aesthetic is pretty good, there are some goofy things like dashing with capes leading to the cape becoming a bib, or using skills making your weapon go invis. Skellies seem to be out of place which i think every necro knows and i think are afraid that they'll be monetized to look more in line with the games darker aesthetic.
-Personal opinion: the first region is going for a pseudo russian accent but hired zero russian talent to voice it, it sounds hokey as fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
This is overlong as it is, I feel like a sober me will put together a concise list in the future after i've thought on it some more. Overall it feels like a game attempting to be retro and falling flat, it has interesting visual elements, tho many effects and spells look rudimentary at the moment and really what looks great is the world and the characters/enemies. Animations and such have that retro 'less is more' feel and i don't know if i agree with it. Others obviously will and thats ok. I'm just stating personal opinions.
Overall, I feel like I would rate the current implementation (if it were to go live like this) at a C-. 6.5/10 - Blizz can do better these guys essentially made this genre popular

2023.03.26 10:13 startech416 Anomaly [Chapter 1]

Physically transcribed memory: Michael Perst, Civilian
Date [central daylight time]: April 14, 2024
Lounging on the couch and, ideally, scrolling through social media isn’t really what I had in mind when I decided to take this vacation. After a few more minutes of procrastination, I decided to make the final checks on my gear and camping equipment for the trip. Standing up and stretching, I make my way towards the kitchen in my humble abode. Crouching near the pile, I make sure everything I need is not only included but also packed away neatly and tightly.
Nearby, the TV is broadcasting the local news. Nothing of interest other than clear skies for the week and some interviews with a dietitian regarding some new health craze that's been blowing up on the internet. However, as I’m tightening straps and zipping bags up, my attention is grabbed as I hear the mention of answers regarding NASA and over a certain subject.
A middle-aged brunette for the local news station seems to be asking some rather important questions to what seems to be some scientists representing the company. I decided that my checking of the bags has been fulfilled as I stand up and turn my attention to the television.
"And what can you tell us regarding the rumors about the supposed delays regarding the Artemis 2 launch?" The news anchor almost had a sort of hunger in her eyes as she asked the question, and the representative cleared his throat.
"With such a large gap between the last crewed missions conducted by NASA, and as unfortunate as it is, the delays are confirmed, but we want to make sure everything is in 100 percent working order. And-"
The television is drowned out as my phone begins to ring, and quickly I grab it off of the table to see my friend that will be accompanying me on the trip. I quickly picked up to answer.
"What's up shitbag?" A giggle nearly escapes my lips.
"Oh, go fuck yourself dude. Do you have everything packed for the trip? It's been forever since we’ve gotten a chance to actually hang out. Plus, I thought you could use a bit of a getaway from the city since you’re always cooped up in that warehouse."
I glance over at the pile of assorted packs, gear, and a case or two. Mulling it over, there's a chance I might have overpacked. However, if what I was told about the trip is true, it’ll truly be in the middle of nowhere, so being overprepared isn’t a bad idea, plus we can get some good rucking in.
"Yeah, I should be good; if we’re still cool with it, I’m going to bring my kit. I’d like to get some drills in. Then we can fuck around with our NODs, yeah?" Immediately, my friend launches into a tirade of all the things we’ll be doing since we’ll be there for a week, then the conversation halts.
I can already tell where this is going just based on how his tone is. I let out a sigh as he starts to ask. "Hey Mike, you're going to be good. Ya know, with the insulin pump and all that? Or if your blood sugar goes low, should I get a bunch of sugar in case you need it?"
I chuckled, "Jake!" I’ll be fine. I’ve had this since I was a kid and made sure extra of everything was packed. Just make sure you bring your fancy cooler, and it should be okay." I absentmindedly grab my insulin pump to check my stats, and my CGM advises me that I’m perfectly in range and everything else is in normal operation.
That seems to have done the trick. He has a tendency to worry about my diabetes. I should be glad though since he seems to understand it for the most part. As the conversation gets back on topic, we eventually agree to make our way to the property in separate vehicles since we’re both bringing a decent set of supplies with us. Eventually exchanging pleasantries and ending the phone call, my attention is again drawn to the television, the portion regarding the Artimus launch still poking at the back of my mind; a small sense of disappointment with a flavor of understanding stagnates with it.
It's understandable that they’d need to delay it; something as important as sending people back to the moon takes a lot of calculations. But man, to live through a new era of space exploration Memories of myself in my younger years begin playback in my own theater, which is my mind. I was always amazed and interested in the study of space, planets, and how the universe worked. The utter excitement I experienced when I got a telescope for my tenth birthday was so intense that I was almost vibrating. I couldn’t wait to look at the moon, and when I did, I knew I couldn’t stop the track that I was on.
I quickly snap back to the present, looking at my watch and cursing to myself as I begin the long track to load all the equipment up. Jake was right. I need some sort of distraction from my life. As well as things were going for me, I needed to disconnect and open up to the outdoors. Maybe we’ll spot some meteors while we’re out. But for now, I need to load the car up.

—————————————————————————————————————————————

This tiny idea came from a dream after spending a couple nights reading the main story and other fanfics on the sub. I also don't use reddit at all so formatting might be a bit off, it's also been literal years since I last sat down to write something out. Second question - what is the use of demigod? Is it even worth to ascend your cultivators?

2023.03.26 10:11 MalcolmBMW Trans failsafe prog test drive

Took a 1999 735i (M62tu) for a test drive today. Went into trans failsafe on the driveway in first gear and I pushed the pedal down to well over 4000 rpm then it started moving as soon as it was in gear 2 it was alright. there was no jolt or rattle and it shifted into reverse fine however it just would not shift into sport/Steptronic. The car was left sitting for a year in a garage and the battery was flat. they say it's new but I suspect the battery is the issue. thoughts?
Side note: The car has only one owner and is in great condition apart from the steering wheel electric adjustment only moving in and out and not up and down+the driver's seat does not move forward and back but tilt etc does.

2023.03.26 10:04 Darkomate So questions about the gearing. + One extra. (MHW Noob Question)

👋 Hello
So I bought MHW from steam sale like 2 years ago. I went in raw, and experienced the start-and-quit starter pack.
I thought it was gona be a normal hack'n'slash. I picked up the charging blade as my first weapon. Then got beaten by the bowlcut dinos in the second mission, when every hit from me started bouncing off. And finally drowned in the Japanese dream of having menus in submenus about menus (Just like they love wrapping every thing in 7 layers of plastic).
After taking a break to grab some water, for few years, I still couldn't drop off the feeling that I was missing on something if I didn't finish the game. So this time I builded some information before hand and even spent a mont forcing the game down the throats of my three friends.
Lo and behold, we are loving it.

But I have few more questions now after playing a while.
  • In terms of equipment, should we spend time getting everything? Like I love collecting and grinding, but my friends not that much. Where is the balance?
  • Does this game have "transmog" system where you can change the appearance of your stuff?
  • What are the equipment we should avoid, in terms of trying to keep it fair? Someone told me there was like catch up gear for the dlc. We missed buying the dlc from last sale, so we prolly do it after world. Also I noticed that there is this event going on, with some 🌺 and 🐝 action ❤️🤔, where you can get this event gear with the tokens. It seemed much stronger than the others.
  • And finally how bad is it, if we don't buy the DLC straight away?
Edits: Tried to fix up the spacing. Reddit on my phone hates spacing.

2023.03.26 10:03 Obak420 First cheater encounter on official

I need to just post it for everyone who lost all gear to cheaters. Me and my friend were alive for at least 2 weeks, we lost our first base on offline raid but counterraided our opponents killing one and badly wounding 2 others, sadly i lost my friend in that action. We got back together quickly and survived in forests for a week making campfires and hunting while sun was soaking morning fog through tree branches with breathtaking vibrant colors. Sometimes almost starving to death but we managed to get back on top collecting pristine armor and clothing, we worked hard to gather great gear as we both had a Vaiga with few mags, one ka-101, aur ax, le-mas, blaze and thundra (of course we didn't carry it all around we established a few small stashes in Galkino area. From 2 chaotic gopnik clowns we became well organized soldiers working together in harmony. After stalking a nearby group of three players for few hours (they were logging into the game at least 3 times in span of 4 hours) we almost had them surrounded and were ready for action when they managed to get into the dacaying base and close it off. After that failed ambush we ran back to our village to take care of our own base as we collected everything required to start a base in those past 4 hours. But then i rememberd that i left my backpack in a tree line from the previous action so said to my friend that i will quickly get it back. After about 3-4 mins jog i get shot twice in torso and head (mind you there was at least half a second pause in those shots so i would have seen my killer or heard the bullets normally), without any sound i drop dead and announce that to my fellow brother in arms but before i even finished my sentence he was dead too, killed in the same way only difference being he was in a barn with locked doors. And you know what.... We weren't even mad at that twat, we felt sorry for the guy as we were just ending awesome two week streak and still being top shelf rambos with great memories and laughs through discord and he.... well he got some nice shit with zero effort and will be most likely bored af with it in the next few dayz. Pace and love to yall' fellow gopniks and remeber it's all about the journey, the loot is always all around.

2023.03.26 09:55 autotldr Lebanon wakes up in two rival time zones

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 45%. (I'm a bot)
People in Lebanon have woken up in two rival time zones, amid a row between political and religious authorities over when clocks should go forward.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that daylight saving would begin at the end of Ramadan next month, allowing Muslims to break their daily fast earlier.
The dispute illustrates deep divisions in a country where Christian and Muslim factions waged a civil war in the late 1970s and 1980s, and where political positions are shared between religious groups.
If the time remains unchanged, Muslims will be able to break their fast an hour earlier, at around 18:00 instead of 19:00, the time the sun sets.
Two news channels, LBCI and MTV, moved their clocks forward early on Sunday.
It said its clocks and other devices would stay in winter time but its flight times would be adjusted to avoid disrupting international schedules.

2023.03.26 09:53 DreamFallen500 World First Planesbreaker with Heavy Oaken group

Good day to everyone.
After clearing GS with HAs we decided to push this setup even further and try RGHM with it since there were a thought that Xalvakka HM is not possible with Oaken HA single target output. BUT! We did speedrun in the first try and most challenging boss was Oaxiltso.
We did some adjustments, dmg targeting and geared our main tank with Olorime+Martial Knowledge (2 light sets =))) that allowed us to get stable 4.03~ timer.
Bahsei was not a problem at all since we had superior cleave damage and just targeted all Flesh Abominations when they came to us. Everything else is not so different from standard clear.
Xalvakka. She was there and we killed her. We got 36/36 on 2nd or 3rd raidday but 1 guy got too personal meeting with Iron Atro after last split of Xalvakka.
To summ this all up. You can clear all trials (exept Reef but I don't want to check it anytime soon and Cloudrest since Overload fix) to not so bad trifecta level with oaken group but ring doesn't add you hours of expirience at encounters, high tier supports (tanks, healers) and dds that will do what they need and told to do (I was pushing group really hard on everyboss, log checks and so on).
I will add few POVs when they will get avaliable.
HA raidleader POV
Logs of Planesbreaker
Hope you will enjoy it and have a good day.
If you have any questions you ask them here or in YT comments

2023.03.26 09:52 Prize-Strength-5000 Why can’t I find the blue gear?!

4 Mirage Islands and I haven’t found this blue gear not once, I’ve even had 2-3 people helping me and we cannot find this thing. I try to follow the maps of where the gear should be, but either it’s not there or I get lost because of the damn fog. I try to light up the place with Soul Guitar but it doesn’t help. I feel like I’m going in circles because I always end up in a dead end. Where the hell is this damn blue gear?!

2023.03.26 09:50 Nephril_Daemous Alternative Action system for DnD5e Please help with critiques

Paying respects where I took inspiration.
First obviously Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition. My system is merely a shiny new face on their existing game.
Secondly Pathfinder second edition. As a long-time pathfinder player, I respect their innovation when math is concerned. I had wracked my brain for a while trying to figure out a way to make a 3-action system work for 5e but never spent the time to make anything functional.
Finally TheDungeonCoach, it was his video proposing a 4 action system and his thoughts on acting around a whole round instead of limiting yourself to your turn that made me really think this needed to happen. He proposed very broad ideas he would be putting into his new d20 system. I decided to develop a half step that allows for a few modifications to allow for the current DnD 5e to function without overhauling every class and aspect of the game and utilize an action token system.
My take on the action system is called the “Four Token System”. I’ll go over the basic rules and then the few modifications that you have to make to utilize this in a 5e game.
First is some verbiage.
Turn (initiative): same as 5e it is your designated place in the initiative.
Round: from the end of one of your turns until the end of your next turn.
Standard Actions (Standard): actions that must be taken during your turn.
Fast Actions (Fast): Can be taken any time during a round resolved in between other people's turns.
Reactions: can be used to interrupt someone else's turn anytime during a round. Usually in response to a triggering action.
Dash: treated the same as a move action.
Attack: Performing an action meant to reduce hit points or effectiveness of another creature/object.
There are three costs for actions. If you do not have enough points you cannot take the action. If you end your turn with points left over they are forfeited and you get reset back to 4 tokens. You will see though there is really no reason to ever end a turn with tokens left over.
By having tokens reset at the end of your turn you are left open to make decisions during the round preceding your initiative. You can spend tokens as you see necessary or make the decision to save some tokens for your turn. If the points reset at the beginning of your turn you would have to constantly wonder if you should attack, move, or save your resources. This also means that just before tokens rest you have the most valuable spenders available to you so you can milk every last drop of value out of your round.
Because this system does open up actions to attack an overall rule for rules covering both magic and martial is also implemented. You may only spend 2 actions to attacks per round plus one attack of opportunity. The purpose of this system is to promote interaction outside of your turn. Not simply to allow players to make extra attacks. This is not free Haste. Use your other actions to dodge, disengage, buff, heal, help, or any other number of options.
Not every action is created equal and because of that costs from action to action vary. Here is a list of actions and their associated cost.
Name: Interact with an object
Cost: 0
Speed: Fast
Effect: You may draw or store any object, and interact with objects in the game like opening doors or pulling levers.

Name: Taking a potion, drinking, or putting food in your mouth.
Cost: 1
Speed: fast or standard.
Effect: If done as fast you roll normally for all effects. If done as a standard you can maximize the variable effects except the damage dealt. Doing any of these to another willing person is a Standard action.

Name: Attack
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: You may take one attack action. If your class has an extra attack you may only utilize the additional attacks 1/turn. You may spend additional points to get additional single attacks.
Token Flip: If this attack triggers an ability that allows you to make an additional attack as a bonus you may flip the token instead of paying it. Once flipped this token is counted as used, however when you are refunded all of your tokens the flipped token stays flipped. This token is identified as one that can be used for your bonus action attack at reaction speed. It may also be spent normally for other actions.

Name: Move
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: You can move your current speed for whichever movement type you possess. Each time you take a Move you may sacrifice 5 feet to interact with an additional item during that turn.
Token Flip: if you make a movement and sacrifice 5 feet of your speed to interact with an item you may flip your token instead of paying it. Once flipped that token can be turned in at any time to interact with an object during that round.

Name: Special Movement
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: Any ability that allows for a player to perform a dodge, hide, disengage, dash, or other movement-related ability as a bonus action can take that action as a standard and an additional dash.

Name: All previous reactions.
Cost: 1
Speed: Reaction
Effect: All previous reactions will operate the same as before. Each requires a Unique triggering effect.

Name: Cantrip
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: You may cast a cantrip normally.
Exception: Eldritch blast: Eldritch blast will only fire multiple beams on the first cast of a round. After that, you may fire 1 bolt for 1 token or cast the spell as normal for 2 tokens.

Name: Help
Cost: 1
Speed: Reaction
Effect: you may use the help action as outlined in 5e rules.

Name: Shielding
Cost: 1
Speed: Reaction
Effect: When you are wielding a shield you may grant your shield’s ac bonus to another player. It is a fast action to change the ac bonus back to yourself for free or 1 token to return the shield ac bonus to yourself or another player as a reaction.

Name: Restorative and Defensive spells
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: Any spell used to remove a condition, restore hp, Only grant temp hp, or stabilize a companion can be cast. Additionally, any spell that is only a defensive buff.

Name: Reactionary Spells
Cost: 1
Speed: Reaction
Effect: You may cast a spell with a default casting time of reaction.

Name: Bonus Action Attacks with no prerequisite action.
Cost: 1
Speed: Reaction
Effect: You may make your attack at any time during a round between the turns of others.

Name: Quickened spells
Cost: 1
Speed: Action
Effect: Any spell that has its casting speed as a bonus action.

Name: Other Bonus Actions
Cost: 1
Speed: Standard
Effect: Any ability with a listed speed of Bonus action can be executed as a standard action. As there are so many bonus actions in the game two special lists will be created. One for Fast actions and another for reactions. This will probably be lengthy. Most bonus actions will fall under the Standard speed. But there will undoubtedly be some that make more sense to be done out of your turn.

Name: Slotted Spells
Cost: 2
Speed: Standard
Effect: You may cast any spell you know with a listed casting time of an action. When using this option you are limited to one spell per school of magic per round. Limit one slotted spell that deals hit-point damage per round.

Name: Action Upgrade
Cost: 2
Speed: Reaction
Effect: You may make any 1 token cost ability with a standard or fast speed as a reaction.

Name: Intercept Hit
Cost: 2
Speed: Reaction
Effect: After an ally has been hit but before damage or effect has been declared you may execute this maneuver. It allows you to move 5 feet before qualifying for the defense. There are 2 qualifying positions.
  1. Being adjacent to the ally is hit.
  2. Be in the path the attack is coming from.
If the attack hit your ally it hits you. Your resistance and immunities apply as normal. In the case of control spells, you would make your save normally.

Name: Dive to safety
Cost: 2
Speed: Reaction
Effect: In response to being in an area spell, The player can move up to his speed ending in an open square prone, and the player gains an advantage on the saving throw. If the spell limits movement in any way you make the save before moving.

Name: Trigger a spell battle.
Cost: 2
Speed: Reaction
Effect: This is a unique counterspell mechanic. Please see Spell Battle for a full breakdown.
Quick explanation:
  1. Identify a spell as its being cast.
  2. Choose a spell to counter it with.
  3. Opposed caster checks.
  4. The winner’s spell goes off the loser’s doesnt. Possibly both spells go off if tied.

Name: Slotted Spell Cast Upgrade
Cost: 3
Speed: Reaction
Effect: You may cast any slotted spell as a reaction.
Now the recommended setup.
Each player is given 4 markers (like poker chips, playing cards, or coins.) it is important that the marker has two different faces.
These tokens are given to the dm or otherwise removed from their remaining tokens to denote using an ability. These represent the 4 actions you get to take in a round.
Certain actions will allow you to turn a token over denoting its use for something else. (explained in specifics later).
All 4 tokens are refunded to the player at the end of their turn. (You cannot take a standard action after your token has been returned until the beginning of your next turn.)

The aforementioned
SPELL BATTLE
Before getting too far into this, I understand this is a slightly more complicated process than people are used to. However, casters, especially those who want to interact with other casters, need to understand that playing with spell interactions is potentially powerful and gives a way to develop completely unheard-of builds.
Also, you have a little wiggle room when deciding if you are going to commit. You may abandon a spell battle during step 1 with no expended resources. Once you choose a spell to battle with you are locked in regardless of what happens.
Step 1 Identify the spell.
DC10+spell level (level spell is cast at not original level)
RELIGION: Cleric/paladin/demon/angel
NATURE: druid/rangefey
ARCANE: Dragon/arcane/aberration
History: Increase the dc to 15+cast level
Step 2 identify the result
if you fail you are at disadvantage for a caster level check. and if you use a spell of a lower level than the one to be countered you fail.
if you make the check you identify the spell and level and can choose a spell accordingly.
Step 3 Choosing the spell
The same level equals a flat roll, a lower level is at disadvantage, and a higher-level spell gives you an advantage.
The spell must make sense to counter.
Either in the same school.
Thematically make sense.
Or most abjuration spells would be good for countering.
Example: Someone casts Magic missile targeting an ally beside you. You use mage armor to envelope them in its protection. You win the roll and negate their spell. Now your ally has mage armor on.
Example: they cast an eldritch blast and you overwhelm it with burning hands, they take damage normally and their eldritch blasts streak safely by as they are unable to successfully target an opponent.
Step 4 Caster checks Each caster makes a d20 roll.
The original caster makes a flat roll. the counter speller makes it modified based on the identity and level of the spell used to counter.
Each caster adds their casting stat modifier and proficiency bonus to the roll. as well as any bonus that increases their spells to hit or save dc whichever is the highest.
Example: An artificer with an int of 18, PB of 2, and a +1 many tool cast blur a 2nd-level spell in a 2nd-level slot.
Your wizard attempts to counter the spell. he rolls an arcana check and gets a total of 12 exactly making the necessary dc.
He opts to use see invisibility to counter the spell claiming that divination-enhanced vision makes sense to counter an illusion spell.
the wizard has a 20 int and PB of +3
So the artificer rolls first he gets to roll a d20+4(int)+2(PB)+1(many tool increases the spell to hit.) he rolls average and gets a total of 18
Since the wizard is using the same level spell he doesn't get an advantage or disadvantage and he rolls d20+5(int)+3(PB)+0 as he has no item to boost him.
First possible: the wizard succeeds in getting a total greater than the artificer. the artificer's spell fizzles and the wizard now have to see invisibility active.
Second possibility: the wizard rolls lower than the artificer. His see invisibility is expended and the blur goes off normally. The wizard does not get his spell’s effects.
Third possibility: A tie. they both roll the exact same amount. The artificer's spell resolves first and the wizard's second they both get the effects of their spells.
Caveat for ties only: Both spells are considered as passing each other and in flight simultaneously. The artificers will hit a fraction of a second before the wizards so a few things to note.
In the event, the first caster's spell causes the second one to die or become unable to cast spells it does not affect the spell in the air. Even if the second caster is disintegrated his last spell will hit and resolve normally.
If the second caster uses dispel magic to counter then dispel magic will resolve like normal possibly removing the buff spell the first caster just placed on himself.

Any advice anyone can give that is geared towards making this fun and as close to balanced as possible please help me out.

2023.03.26 09:39 Striking_While_4322 My already fucked up self esteem regarding car driving is gone

So, I got my licence around 2 years ago and due to some other issues partner and I had, I didn't immidietly started driving our car. In those 2 years I got behind the wheele maybe 10 times max, and all 10 times I was a nervous wreck before and after driving.
So, this month, I decided that I wanted to get over my fear of driving, because my partner is the one who is always driving us everywhere we need to go, and it's only fair that I started to share that duty with him. We also managed to solve issues we had 2y ago (building the house - very stresfull period). I talked to him about it and he agreed, I also asked him to be mindful, helpful and considerate when I get to drive.
I would drive us from work on weekend because there is less trafic in early hours (we work in shifts), and I actually suprised myself how well I was going. Of course, heart was pounding and I was nervous but I managed and was very proud of myself. He was also helpful and would give me tips and advices. I drove us 3x in total this month. It's a trip that is around 35km long, and has many bends and curves so of course that Im not going to drive like a mad man trough them and I could tell that he was a bit annoied that I drove somewhat slowly at those sections but I told him to suck it up.
Yesterday in the evening I told him that I wish to drive us to work because it's Sunday and it will not be that much traffic in the morning. He agreed. So morning comes and we get ready and leave. I started to have some issues. I don't know what got into me but on few ocassions when I would go from traffic light, I would start from 1st gear like I should but instead of going to 2nd gear I would shift in 4th gear, causing motor to go bonkers of course. It happend 2 times and on second time we started to smell something, I probably burned serpentine belt a bit (don't know for sure, Im not mechanic), there are no lights on control panel that indicates something damaged.
We made a stop at the gas station to buy snacks for work. He told me to hand over the keys. When we finished paying and entered the car (he is driving now). He then told me this - "You are not going to drive car anymore. I don't have money to throw for repairing and Im pretty sure you don't have money to buy another car for yourself."
I was floored. I am mad at myself and mad at him, but I can understand him... Im mostly sad because I tought I was doing so well and I finally started to feel more comfortable. He is right tough. We can't afford our car getting broken down by my rookie mistakes, we have another things we have to save money for. On other hand Im somewhat relieved because of it, but on other hand Im deeply disappointed that Im inacapable to preform a skill that millon other people can do.
