I've been vacationing on Kiawah Island since 1997. Not as long as some folk, but when it comes to this island, I can tell you where to go, what's worth your time and what isn't. Kiawah is a fantastic location for a summer vacation and thanks to the recent 2012 PGA Championship and the 1991 Ryder Cup it has really drawn a lot of attention.

2023.06.09 23:53 FrenchoBoomin A Fight Club Review (SPOILERS)
This film follows two people who turn out to be the same person - Tyler Durden. The Narrartor is an insomniac, and discontent with the corporate, mundane job he has, attending different distress groups to feel something. He and Tyler start a fight club - a group of guys who bare knuckle brawl on Saturday nights, gaining a catharsis and ‘high’ from it. The club builds and grows eventually escalating into a terrorist group, hell bent on destroying the consumerist, possession filled lives we live. The narrator realizes the severity of what he has seemingly unconsciously created, and frantically tries to stop it, but for the banking towers his people rigged charges under, it’s too late. The Narrator kills the other side of himself - the dark, drastic and unstable Tyler Durden. He is born anew as the city explodes before him and Marla.
An absolute masterpiece the more thought and digging you do. There are so many interpretations, meanings, easter eggs and theories to derive from this movie. The more I read up on it, and do some thinking of my own, it keeps coming together in a beautiful way. I love how the ambiguity of it all is never too far fetched, never too abstract to where you’re just lost. It’s all grounded to some degree in a real and tangible world, and therefore makes for such interesting conversation and thought.
I subscribe to this: Tyler is a man who is living in a world which does not allow for traditional male emotion and roles. He works a boring, meaningless job which suppresses him in every facet of life. He seeks these distress groups to cope with these feelings and to maybe even feel close to death, like its some release from the shackles of this life (Marla almost states this exactly, which is why their characters are so similar). Tyler created an ideal, manly version of himself as Brad Pitt. A free spirit who’s not held down or held back, someone who’s edgy, handsome, smart, visceral and good in bed. He fantasized about this Tyler in every scenario, creating a version of himself that is all the things he wishes he was. Fight club seemed like a great thing for these men initially - a way to get emotion, anger and frustration out without harming others, a way to let out raw male aggression. This movie speaks to this - how in our modern world this male desire is undeniably suppressed and we are forced to be tame and comply. Forced to be monochromatic. It speaks to the importance of our true feelings and emotions. This movie also warns of the danger that could ensue if this male desire and ego goes unchecked. It is quick to cause destruction and terror. Quick to rebel and turn to extremes such as fascism. Quick to harm others and cause extreme conflict. This is the person Brad Pitt ultimately reflects, males’ darkness inside them that wants nothing more than to be free, rebellious and chaotic. The narrator on the other hand is the tame, happy to comply office worker who is scared of relationships and buys all the possessions society tells us too - he plays along. At the end, The narrator kills the dark side of himself, but doesn’t return to the bland version either - he seems to find a happy medium in the end, one where neither side of himself prevails all the time. The movie tells us throughout that males may need to play rough and let out these urges being suppressed from time to time, but moderation and control is key. In the end, the narrator did what was necessary to ensure this balance.
There is something every male can relate to in this movie. A desire to rebel? An urge to fight? A tight knit brotherhood or camaraderie? This movie takes these things to the absolute extreme to show us the dangers, but I believe it also gives these ideas breathing room and validity. Every male can latch onto something being talked about here. Maybe the extreme of bare knuckle fighting, maybe just the desire to break free from a life that keeps you down (probably a more reasonable one).
As if the story wasn’t good enough to hold up the film, David Fincher absolutely man-handled the visual style and tone. He crafted a drab and bleak color palette, hard lighting and high contrast, and stylized camera movement to reflect Tylers duality throughout. The movie succeeds in providing a dark and visceral feeling to the viewer, an uncanniness throughout, that almost makes you unable to sit still. The blood and fighting is brutal, the place these people call home is disgusting (to say the least), and all of the choices made regarding costumes, set design, lighting, props, direction and camera work comes together harmoniously to give you a complete package. A unique visual style that matches the story so well you couldn’t envision it any other way.
Oh, and also Brad Pitt absolutely stole this movie for me. Norton was great, but Brad really delivered some of the best Ive seen. He had so many punchy lines, deep monologues that encapsulate the film, and in general plays such a layered and intense character. Incredible.
Need I say any more about this movie?!

2023.06.09 23:53 NoAd6763 I need some Advice, TW: some pretty nasty abuse is detailed, exercise caution please
I grew up in a family which consists of addicts, severe addictions, waking up mid driving out of a high, having no idea where they are type stuff, to the point of death, my own mother overdosed on oxy, she would mix it with alcohol as well as morphine and codeine, usually in the form of tec-3's, many thought she was a hypochondriac and a narcissist, However after seeing teams of physiatrists, they noticed while i had ADHD and OCD, all my other conditions I had been diagnosed with including lyme, autism, tourettes, ODD all were false, They came to a conclusion, FDIA with a side of severe addiction, FDIA is more commonly known as munchausen syndrome by proxy, I endured a childhood of thinking having a chunk out of my shin bone, as a result of one of my mothers episodes was indeed normal, I was almost never allowed out of the house, any time I called the police there was nothing they could do because they needed her to first admit there was a problem, at 17 i finally resorted to the absolute last resort and fought tooth and nail to escape the torment, I ended up getting arrested but because now that she couldn't meddle with anything, the crown withdrew the charges and they gave as much therapy as they could, it was not enough, my mother then left me with $163,000 in life insurance money, which I used to then fuel my own alcohol and drug induced rampage, I got pretty addicted to nicotine, alcohol and found myself growing a dependency on marijuana which is 100% legal where I live, I have officially finally got myself completely off all 3, moved myself across the country, living on the beach, working an absolutely perfect job for what i need, started working on taking care of myself, but i lack the ability to know how to do the simplest stuff and i drives me insane, I had to learn how to properly open a lysol package at 19, I finally just taught myself to actually tie my shoes, I realized a few days ago i was born with one tendon for 3 fingers on both hands, so if i move one, all 3 move and that my body had forced itself to make my hands function just as well as anybody else's, essentially, due to my mother keeping me medicated on over 32 pills a day to make it literally impossible for me to become self aware, I have within the past few days become self aware finally and i need help with knowing how to deal with all the most random things in life as i can only understand it and applicate it if i do it, I struggle with 0 self confidence which im trying my best to work on independently but any tips would be suggested, loud bangs and cracks cause me to have flashbacks, only when they're completely unexpected though, I freeze, become disorientated, can hear every single little thing at extremely high audio levels that cause my ears to hurt, when i cause it or see it coming it has 0 effect on me, i struggle with knowing the difference in knowing the difference in tone when conversing so i often think people are mad at me or dont like me even when they do, people who talk near me, i automatically assume are talking bad about me even though i know theyre not, My mother used to always talk shit about me to her spouses who she also abused, i've been reaching out to her previous spouses bit by bit to piece this puzzle together bit by bit, essentially how do I live and function, balance budgets all the stuff you have to learn and applicate upon living on your own, how to adult? I need guidance, if anybody has any forums, links, anything that can me learn these skills and applicate them, id greatly appricate it

2023.06.09 23:52 jellyfish-squish Elderly cat won’t stop peeing on the floor, need opinions since vet testing seems to be a dead end :(
Hi everyone! This is my first post in the sub— it’s great to see everyone come together as a community to bond over our furry friends. I’m making this post as a last resort after spending hundreds in vet bills— looking for advice or a second veterinary opinion (please bear with me if this is a long post!)
My elderly cat, Zoe, has been peeing on the floor for about a week and a half now. The puddles are usually in the same rooms as her litterboxes, but we’ve found a couple others around the house. She’s done this before; and in the past we’d bring her to the vet, they’d diagnose her with a bladder infection and put her on antibiotics, and the peeing would stop. However, we brought her to the vet earlier this week and after multiple tests and bloodwork they said she has no UTI or infection and they aren’t sure what’s causing the peeing this time. She’s been spayed and kept indoors since we’ve had her as a kitten, and although she does have mild kidney disease due to her age (somewhere around 17-18) the bloodwork from earlier this week showed it hasn’t progressed or gotten worse since past vet visits. We haven’t made any changes to her litter situation— we have 3 boxes around the house (as per vet’s recommendation), keep them clean, and haven’t changed the brand of litter or anything like that. It’s also not that she can’t make it to the litterbox in time— I have watched her walk right past it to pee elsewhere on the rug in the same room. She still uses it to poop, but it’s been completely dry for the past week and a half.
It’s getting very stressful to accidentally step in/have to clean up pee from the floor 3+ times a day, and she’s done damage to both the hardwood flooring and the rugs that will cost a lot to repair. She also peed in a laundry basket and we had to throw out all the clothes that were inside. I understand that when testing at the vet comes out negative there’s nothing they can do or prescribe, but I am desperate for solutions! If you’ve read this far, thank you 🥹

2023.06.09 23:52 GirasolAguitado What next?
I just got diagnosed with adhd inattentive type with major depressive disorder. The evaluation input appointment was 30 minutes long and afterwards I was recommended a book called scattered minds and told that I should read it and what I do afterwards is up to me. What am I supposed to do here? I’ve been dismissed by two therapists, the last one literally got mad at me for saying that I didn’t feel like I was learning anything in sessions that I hadn’t already tried or learned through my own research. Instead of saying we could try a new approach they told me I should find someone else to work with and I felt like I had to deescalate the situation. I was told that I was in fact being challenged and I just needed to have discipline. I brought up suspicions of autism twice after taking multiple self assessments and scoring high. I was dismissed for that too. I tried two different antidepressants to treat depression with a psychiatrist and they sent me into a weird full detachment can’t feel anything mode and the other into some type of beginnings of psychosis. I can’t keep going through trial and error. My mind is not strong enough I need help. I have a kid and I have different kinds of trauma and not in a great marriage. Idk what to do anymore bc I am breaking. I’ve been breaking and it took so much to reach out for help. I waited months for this process and I was told to read a book and decide on my own???? What was the point of this process if nothing changed in terms of finding a path forward. I need a good psychiatrist and therapist to truly listen to me and help me. Any recommendations in San Diego? Any advice on what to do here. Also, my last therapist resorted to changing our sessions last minute without telling me until I called to end their services bc they were literally avoiding me. Symptoms plague my life and I go through a constant cycle of energy spurt, big push, burnout, fatigue, depression and then repeat and have to deal with symptoms that make living life everyday so exhausting and seemingly impossible. I am aware that there is a lot more going on in my life that contributes to my overall struggles. It’s just been the same cycle my entire life. The same struggles and I think it’s been amplified by the trauma I’ve experienced and the trauma of living through all of my experiences with no support system, and no understanding of what was wrong or how to fix it. I’m 26 now and so I just need actual real help that is not basically telling me I’m just not trying hard enough.

2023.06.09 23:50 ImmediateBee4544 Bit of a weird one
Hey all, need a bit of advice on a situation I (29m) found myself in. Long story short, I was on a night out, got way too drunk and ended up in a lapdancing club, not something I've ever done before. I got a dance and the girl kept saying she wanted to hook up the next time I'm in the city and wanted me to give her my number. Like I said, I've never done anything like this before so I was cautious and didn't give my number, but before I left she gave me her number. She said to message the next time I'm in the city and that she would meet me in my hotel. She assured me it wouldn't be a pay for her time thing if you know what I'm getting at. Am I reading into this too much? Do you think she's actually into me or is this just trying to get a few more bucks? I'm obviously terrible at reading any kind of signals from the opposite sex so I haven't a clue what's going on. Any advice would be great, please don't judge me too much.

2023.06.09 23:50 Old_Significance_562 Just got back from a fun research field trip…
After 76 days, I ordered two pints of beer in my journey out tonight. It was actually a struggle to finish the second. I actually had a really nice time in the moment too though!
I would have had a nice time without them though.
Was it funner with the drinks? Yeah I think it was!
Do I feel more disconnected from myself and less in control? Yep.
Do I want to keep going and drink more, and go out to a club? I do.
Therefore, tomorrow begins day one again. I’m feeling surprisingly positive about this experience, and am totally ready to build up even more days.
If it takes 30 days, a drink, 60 days, a drink and 76 days and a drink to be able to get to a place I feel confident and happy with not drinking longer term, so be it.
Take care all, and remember that slip ups are a positive not a negative.

2023.06.09 23:50 SatansAdvokat About the Ogryn Power Maul Light swing 3 & 4 attack damage... Actually, about Ogryn melee damage in general.
| Compare the Ogryn vs the kinda tall Normal human furthest to the right. Achlys Mk I Power Maul. Only +25% dmg vs Flack & Unarmoured. The only Blessing the Power Maul has that increases damage is Skullcrusher. A lvl 4 Skullcrusher blessing gives +20% dmg. Standard-issue Munitorum Sapper Shovel. Only +25% dmg vs Flack & Unarmoured. Sapper Shovel has several blessings that increases damage, see where this is going? Not only does it also have Skullcrusher, but then it also has: - Decimator
- "Continuously chaining more than 2 attacks gives +4-10% Power. Stacks 5 times."
- All or Nothing
- "Power is increased by 7.5-20% at empty stamina, scaling down linearly to full stamina."
- Thrust
- "Up to +5-20% Power, scaling with Charge Time (Heavy Attack. Stacks 3 times.")
- Limbsplitter
- "The first attack in a chain has 10-25% increased power. Chained attacks has 10% reduced power."
- Take a Swing
- "+30-60% Weak Spot Damage for 3 seconds on Pushing Enemies."
- And lastly, Uncanny Strike
- "+5-20% Rending on enemy weak spot hit for 2.5 seconds. Stacks 5 times."
But lets not stop there! Crucis Mk II Thunder Hammer. Only +25% dmg vs Flack & Unarmoured. Blessings that provides dmg... - Head Taker
- +2-5% Power for 3.5s on Hit. Stacks 5 times.
- Skullcrusher (ofc... why wouldn't it have that?)
- Slaughterer
- +7.5-15% Power for 3.5 seconds on kill. Stacks 5 times.
- Meta, THE blessing, the bomb, the "omg i want this blessing"
- Thunderous
- Target receives 1-4 Stacks of 5% Brittleness on Hit. Lasts 5s.
Mk IIIb Bully Club. Only +25% dmg vs Flack & Unarmoured. Blessings that provides damage... - Skullcrusher
- Thurst
- Thunderous
- Target receives 1-4 Stacks of 5% Brittleness on Hit. Lasts 5s.
- Completely useless against Maniac, Unyielding, Infested and Unarmoured
- Haymaker
- +1-4% to Instakill human-sized enemies on Chained Heavy Hit. Stacks 5 Times.
- Extremely good on paper, isn't as good in reality.
- Slaughterer
- Lol just kidding, why would it have that?
I shouldn't have to tell anyone this, but this... This is not acceptable... Do we play as an Ogryn who pulled the genetical short Straw? What ever happened to what wh40k.lexicanum.com say about the Ogryn? Ogryns are simple beings – abhumans adapted for brute strength and resilience on high-gravity worlds. [...] Ogryns are the largest and most physically powerful type of abhuman. They make ideal warriors and are often recruited into Imperial Guard regiments, and used as close assault shock troops. Or how Games Workshop describe them: Heavily-muscled abhuman Elites for your Astra Militarum army [...] Ogryns are simple beings – abhumans adapted for brute strength and resilience on high-gravity worlds. In battle, their instincts rarely lead them beyond hitting the enemy as hard as possible. These qualities see them fielded as formidable shock troops whose hulking physiques allow them to shrug off and inflict tremendous damage, armed with rapid-firing ripper guns that are built to withstand use as improvised clubs. Or how Warhammer40k.fandom describes them: Ogryns possess many traits prized by the Imperium; they are brutally strong and completely loyal [...] Ogryns compensate for their mental deficiencies with overwhelming physicality -- the brutish creatures stand around 10 Terran feet (3 metres) tall and can shrug off wounds that would kill an Imperial Guardsman several times over. These qualities mean that Ogryns make exceptional shock troops, and are often deployed on the front lines of battle by Imperial commanders. Keywords and phrases about power of the Ogryns from these sources. - "brute strength" - Games Workshop
- "most powerful abhuman" - Games Workshop
- "hulking physiques" - Games Workshop
- "brutally strong" - Warhammer40k.fandom
- "overwhelming physicality" - Warhammer40k.fandom
- "well-muscled" - wh40k.lexicanum.com
- "Heavily-muscled abhuman Elites" - Games Workshop
- "brutish creatures stand around 10 Terran feet (3 metres)" - Warhammer40k.fandom
- "tremendous damage" - Games Workshop
And regarding the "toughness" of the Ogryns: - "shurg off wounds that would kill a Guardsman several times over" - Warhammer40k.fandom
- "resilience" - Games Workshop
- "Ogryns make exceptional shock troops" - Warhammer40k.fandom
- "formidable shock troops" - Games Workshop
- "close assault shock troops" - wh40k.lexicanum.com
- "shrug off and inflict tremendous damage" - Games Workshop
Also funny thing is that Games Workshop mentions "ripper guns that are built to withstand use as improvised clubs"... No, aparently not? Ogryn be like *uses Ripper Gun bayonet correctly* and Veteran be like *Uses Mk III Helbore Lasgun bayonet as a halberd*. Why can we Ogryns be OGRYNS?! It feels like i'm a Silverback Gourilla playing with a kitten and trying my best not to hurt it. Like, my character is activly holding back? Holy Jesus Mother Mary on the "i'm not even a believer but i can't express my words better than this because my vocabulary is too shallow" and what the actual fuck is this about? Humans, normal, bloody humans, are "out-meleeing" a damn MOUNTAIN OF MUSCLE who are told to be "most powerful", "hulking physiques", "exceptional shock troops" and this 3 meter tall ultra strong abhuman can't even kill a damn Covid-40.000 infested Leper-brownie with a hoodie in one blow?! And some "normal-isch" Imperial Guardsman Guy with a Shovel even hits HARDER than the Ogryn?! Jeez... Okay my rant is over now, hope i got the point out. 2023.06.09 23:49 Fit_Day_3580 Who are the most dislikeable owners.
Whilst Utd fans hate the Glazers with the current process only adding to that and Spurs fans find no joy in Levy, that really comes down to having an owner who runs the club badly than necessarily a bad person. There is however a potential short leap between chopping up a journalist in Turkey and PIF. The Chelsea sale was forced due to Russia invading Ukkraine and Abramovich's connections with Putin. What club do you think is owned by really bad people regardless of how the club is run?

2023.06.09 23:49 classybooksophie TIFU for looking for hours for a book including asking Reddit and Goodreads
So I run a book club, every month I have to organise a list of books for the members to vote on and then the most votes gets picked as the book of the month. We use an app that makes this easy by saving the books everyone wants to read and then adding them into the poll automatically. But I still do research and add different titles to make each month’s poll different and fun.
Anyway, I was finishing the poll and thinking about a book I had heard about but hadn’t read. And thought it would be a good pick for the poll. I proceed to research the book by the plot and setting I remember. Spend hours looking for it. Initially it was just an interesting thing to add but then it become an annoying obsession cause I really needed to know what it was.
After hours I gave up and decide to give a final look at the poll to see if everything is fine before publishing it to the members. I look at the first book in the list and I go “mmmm this looks a bit like what I was thinking about” I Google it, and it was the goddamn book.
I spent hours looking for this f*cking book! Hours! And it was the first one in the list all along.
TL;DR: TIFU by spending hours and hours looking for a book - asking Reddit and Goodreads - for my book club when it was already on top of the list the entire time.

2023.06.09 23:47 HasonKenji More personality Traits - Concept
Caring Persona
-Caring personas stand up to bullying. -A caring persona will stop fights happening between you and other students -A caring persona will notice a corpse faster -A caring persona will fight til their death if it involves a close friend of theirs being hurt -If a caring persona reacts to a corpse, they will then walk around school trying to find more evidence of the portraiture and if they deem you suspicious, will stalk you for the rest of the week. -If a caring persona notices a weapon, they will notify a teacher. If they notice a weapon with blood on it, they notify a teacher and then scan the whole school trying to find what caused said weapon to have blood on it.
Trusting Persona
-A trusting persona at the start of the day has a 50/50 percent chance to start trusting a student. -The trusting persona will trust whatever someone says if they are close with that person, meaning you could get them to believe gossip a lot more. -You can befriend a trusting persona if you befriend all of their friends first. -A trusting persona will be scared if a murder happens and will run to the town. -A trusting persona that finds a weapon will tell the teachers. If the weapon has blood on it, the trusting persona will run and cower.
Bully Persona
-A bully persona will normally through the day be found hiding around school smoking cigarettes. If you find them, they will run away. -A bully persona once per day will follow around their victim, making them fall over and setting bucket traps to laugh at them. -If you kill someone in front of a bully with a low reputation, the bully will instead laugh at the person dying and you can get away with the murder Scott free. -Befriending a bully persona means you have a heightened gossip score and students with a lower population will run away from you. -Bully personas ignore weapons, even if they are bloody. -Bully personas will take pictures of you murdering popular students and run away to show the police.
Cautious Persona
-Personas like this are only friends with a select few people -Cautious personas will refuse to join a club that includes potential weapons. -Cautious personas will be stalking the hallways of the school between lessons -Cautious personas only sit at the front and back of the class -Cautious personas will refuse to eat anywhere that isn't populated by students. -Cautious personas refuse to interact with students that look dangerous or are known to be weird ( Bullies, Delinquents, Student Council. ) -Cautious personas, when witnessing you kill, will take a picture and report it to the headmaster without notifying you. So be on the lookout.
Autistic / ADHD Persona
-Students that have this persona will refuse to hang out with a lot of students -People with this persona will not be in a very populated area, even sometimes found in clausets. -Students with this persona will have mid to low population. -Students with this persona will run away when you try and talk to them and will refuse to follow you. -Students with these personas will attack you if you murder someone -If you are seen in a fight with the delinquents, a student with this persona type will notify any staff or student council near. -A student with this personality type will be muffled to any screams, not be notified by giggles and will only be notified by loud noises. -Autistic / ADHD personas won't go to class and instead will be found sitting outside. -People with these personas will refuse to swim in the pool or even go near it. -People with these personas will refuse to follow you. -They will always cover their face or run away if they spot you taking pictures of them.
Anti-Social Persona
-They will refuse to have pictures of their face taken. -If an Anti-Social persona witnesses you murder, they will alert the police anonymously and then leave the school. An Anti-Social persona will stop following you if you murder while they follow you, regardless of who you murder. -If you try and kill this persona they will fend you off with the same strength that Raibaru has. -If an Anti-Social person finds a corpse, they will stay away from the places the corpse was found for the rest of the day. -Students which are Anti-Social will only talk to Ayano if she has low popularity. -Students with this persona ignore giggles, radios and screams but will pay attention to giggles if you befriend them.

2023.06.09 23:44 Prestigious_Egg9423 Swim team: Boy wants to quit
I’ve a 7 year old boy who was swimming from 4. He made it to Jr. Swim team (up to age 10) and eligible for sr. Swim team (up to age 18). Daily 90 minutes in 25 yards pool. Drills are like 3 laps of free style , back stroke , breast stroke etc. He says he is getting tired and cried and came out out the pool after 60 minutes. He don’t want to do it anymore. When he was 5, he got into a soccer club and don’t want to do it after few classes because it’s too intense. Overall it seems like he wants to do things for leisure and when it comes to competition he don’t want to do it.
I don’t want to push him. It’s not about the money. Should I take him out of the swim team ?

2023.06.09 23:43 jujuismynamekinda Salary differences in Germany and Switzerland
Hey there!
I might be moving from Germany to Switzerland due to personal and work related reasons. I play and played semi-pro in Germany and would like to do something similar in Switzerland. Are the salaries comparable? Since Switzerland is much more expensive, can I expect to have a price-adjusted pay? Is anyone here playing semi-professional in Switzerland? Also, since I didnt need to contact coaches previously, is it just fine to call coaches/clubs to get a trial?
Greetings and have fun everyone
