So I have weird hours when it comes to my sleeping and my work schedule. I pretty much work graveyard shift hours from like about 9pm to 4am mostly. And because of insomnia issues my body is kind of adapted to sleeping in the afternoon. So I'm taking my melatonin around maybe 1pm or 2pm to then fall asleep two hours or less later. And will wake up within 4 hours since that's all my body allows me.
So I need to get back on a strict eating routine so my body can get adjusted again. And I cut out crap I was eating like chips out my daily again. And basically trying to just stick to no sugar to minimum sugar, no seed oils and just more healthier foods.
So I would start off at like 8pm having an red apple. Then at like 10pm have a serving size of nuts and at 12am I will have some matcha to keep my energy levels up. Then at 2am some nuts again with a banana.
Then I'll get off at 4am and wait until 6am to have a bowl of gf oatmeal with almond milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, blueberries, dried cranberries/raisins. Probably won't eat nothing for those 4 hours or might have two kiwis in between. But then at 10am I'll have some potatoes, green beans and either ground beef or canned salmon.
Then pretty much let my stomach rest for 10 hours from 10am to 8pm. And drink water in between the day where my body allows it. If it's not in a state of feeling backed up and bloated. Idk I know the scheduling sounds crazy and maybe the meals as well. But it's kind of the best I can do since I can't cook well and also just because of finances. Any insight or suggestions is appreciated

Q: What am i here for? A: So, to help this context; I create rosters of specific individuals, applying ‘mostly’ realistic stats and attributes to their play style. I played a S*** load of old Ps2 NBA LIVE and just upgraded (by personal decision) to NBA 2K on Ps4. (Current game is NBA 2K16) So I’ve been doing this for a long time and I’m not anything naive about the game and how sliders or playbooks work.
Note I don’t play it personally, i play coach and let my players play the game and i don’t interfere with the gameplay at all. I merely watch a video game run out the numbers in which i simulate. The most i do is substitute fairly and change plays offensively / defensively.
Q: So whats my question? A: Ive created a decent number of players and dialed in their attributes to my desire. However, they don’t play like I’ve attributed them to play. I.E. My Dunks player doesn’t go in for his dunks. Or, my 3pt shooter doesn’t take advantage of his shooting skills. Etc…
-Ive already messed with the sliders a million times, what im hoping to get here is- Are there any specific playbook plays i need to utilize or switch up certain attributes? I want to lean away from messing with the sliders again, they are nearly perfect to where i need them to be. I just need these stupid players to play like i built them to play.
-Im new to the game itself, not the common sense. I want to find what works and what doesn’t work. Maybe I’m using too much of something that i don’t realize fits the bill?
-Again, i don’t play it myself i put in the input and watch the game play itself out as a spectator and coach my rostered team accordingly.

Hello, today my parents and I are going to go to the city today because they booked me a show. It was a Christmas present, they hid it from me till Christmas and the show is tonight. I've been waiting a while for this and was very excited, now I still want to go but don't want to stay near my dad for a while.
So we were getting the final things ready and there was an orange plastic bag with something in it on the back of the sofa. My dad accidentally knocked it and it fell on a table next to the sofa. There was some sort of vase on the table and the bag made it fall over. My dad can get angry easily and so he was quite angry at this point and walked away my mother came in the room and said "what the hell is going on". She asked my dad and ge said "for some reason there is an orange bag on the back of the sofa". My mum picked up the vase and put it back where it was.
This point my parents exploded at eachother shouting and screaming. To me it seemed petty (but now i realise this could be for many things). One thing that I hate that my dad does is if he knocks something over he will leave it there until he decides to pick it up. So when the vase was knocked over he knew because he checked what happened, then walked away.
So I wasn't going to get involved but he told my mother to shut up and I got sick and tired of his shit. So I said, "enough both of you" my mother stopped and looked. My dad staired at me and pointed at me and said "don't talk to me like that". I normally don't talk to my dad about things because he is quite scary sometimes. But I stood my ground and said no, my mother was out of this argument at this point.
My dad left the room, I told my mother I didn't mean to upset him, she told me to apologise to my dad when he came down from upstairs. I said I don't want too, but she said it will make it better. He came down he was packing the bag I apologised that I spoke to him like that. I know apologies don't really work but I just didn't want my parents to fight on the way up to where we were going.
When I apologised he didn't say anything. Throughout the whole car journey we didn't say a word. I'm still excited for the show but I don't want to sit or be next to my dad.
Me and my dad are still not speaking. I'm fine if he doesn't want to speak to me for a while I don't want to speak to him either. I know a child isn't meant to speak back to their parents, but I just had enough of their shitty out bursts and I know that isn't an excuse.

My little sweet girl who just turned 1 on the 9th of March is starting to.. Yeah.. Well... Transition into something quite intense; toddlerhood.
We've been doing BLW since she was 6 months and up till about a month ago, she has been a great and adventurous eater. She would explore, eat good portions and love trying new things while sitting in her high chair.
Those days are over. She is barely eating anything at all during meals. Throws everything on the floor. Trying to stand up in her chair and catching nonstop tantrums. It's fun.
I know that this is part of the selective phase of toddlerhood but holy shit, y'all.. She is driving us up the wall. I am trying my best to just ignore her and not give her reactions, I'll just ask "are you done?" And take her plate away.
She will sometimes eat of she sits on my or my partners lap. He doesn't agree with this method though. Claims she will be spoiled and it's not handy to go places etc. I don't agree because to me, it's more about her having a safe space WHERE SHE WILL EAT. It's not even that she doesn't like her chair, sometimes she will just gesture the get up and continue to eat while sittng on one of us.
She has been fully breastfed from birth. When we started solids, she lost some interest in nursing but that is back now in full force. She will whine to nurse, pull my shirt etc.
I don't know what I'm really looking for with this post.. Maybe some reassurance and to hear from others with kids similar ages or parents with kids who went through this phase.

Now I'm no where near new to the tier or Competitive pokemon but as of late I've been mildly confused with the lack of focus energy, scope lens sets for my boy Hydreigon. Recently I've been using the strat in an almost religious-like fashion and it's been deadly consistent yet no one uses it. Hi everyone. Have been a long time reader of his sub without any posting but have always valued the advice and insights that come from here. My wife and I are facing an issue right now (rather small one, admittedly) that is a bit perplexing and curious as to others thoughts.
It should be noted that we're in Australia so some of the terminology and definitely some of the rules are different but I guess the fundamental issues are still the same, so don't hold that against us. :-)
Should also note that we don't have any kids of our own. This is important simply to establish that there are certain age groups that we have no experience with until they are placed with us.
Right now, we are looking after a 7yo and 8yo sibling pair.
These kids come with a lot of personal trauma (as most foster kids do) and in particular, have suffered neglect from their birth parents their entire lives. One form of this is in their diet. Before they came to us (this is their first placement in the foster care program) their entire diet consisted of junk food and sweets. They both have had multiple baby teeth pulled out due to their being too rotten to salvage and they both have fillings in nearly all of the baby teeth that they still have.
Naturally, we have been trying to introduce them to a more balanced and healthy diet, in particular fruits and veggies. For the most part this is going down ok. They love some, hate others, and tolerate most, but we had an issue with the 7yo tonight with broccoli.
It should be noted that they have had broccoli before without any issues. It's one of the veggies we regularly feed them because up until tonight they have eaten them easier than other veggies. Tonight, however, the 7yo was 100% adamant that they hated broccoli, always have, always will, and would rather skip dinner entirely than eat a single one of those tiny green trees.
Because of past experiences with broccoli we just encouraged them to try eating one and after a 5 minute standoff they finally put the smallest of bushels in their mouth at which point, before even chewing on the thing, they gagged, gagged again, and then threw up all over the table.
So I guess the question is. What gives? Is this normal amongst kids? I know that when I was growing up I just ate whatever was put in front of me or I didn't eat. I also get that people, and kids in particular, can be put off by the taste, smell, texture... etc of certain foods but because this has never happened with this particular veggie before, I am a bit at odds as to what could have caused it tonight and whether it's something we persist with, or just take off the menu entirely.
Has anyone had any experience with this type of situation before? Any suggestions?

After listening to several chapters of the first book, I’m actually kinda hoping that in season 2 we get more angry reactions from the three main teens, AT each other. I love their dynamic and how close they are, but at some point there would obviously be times when one gets real p***ed off at another in the aftermath of a stressful night ghost hunting or something. Lucy in the show gets her ‘feisty’ lashing out moments but the others don’t see to. Yes Lockwood told Lucy not to mention the room again or she leaves, but Lucy hadn’t technically done anything bad and was afterwards mad at Lockwood and he later had to apologise. I’m talking about really angry reactions that do warrant it and no one needing to say sorry FOR the reaction..
I read in the first book, that after returning from hospital, Lucy finds out that Lockwood had not only been down the police station, but had been treated for ghost touch, that due to her decision of carrying on with the sheen road case Lockwood could have died. He returns bandaged up but very out of it, understandably, despite being his smiley self. Lucy and George keep an eye on him throughout the day. Anyway before he came home, George really kicks off at Lucy, he actually punches a wall and kicks at something. He’s proper mad that Lockwood and Lucy left before he could do research, that Lockwood got hurt and also coz he could have died because he nearly didn’t go into the ambulance as he was worried about Lucy. I re-listened to it several times coz I loved imagining this part played out in the show. Of course the show condensed time down so we don’t know how long they’ve been living with each other before sheen road to warrant this outblast from George, so this could instead really fit into a season 2 where they have worked together much longer.
Another moment is when Lockwood, George and Lucy had just fought off Annabelle’s ghost in Lucy’s room and they discover that the jewellery Lucy took from sheen road is the source. Lockwood becomes very serious and gives Lucy at right telling off for this and says he’s disappointed in her, because he didn’t care about her past, but what mattered was now, and she had unknowingly endangered their lives and didn’t say she took anything. This is obviously (as described in book), mainly a combo of the pain he’s feeling from the ghost touch and the stress of needing money for bills to pay, as well as getting slammed with compensation charges, so it’s so understandable this reaction is only in the book. But I kind of would like to see more angry Lockwood too, either at George or Lucy for making a mistake or just coz a particular job was stressful.
I love their closeness and chemistry and want to definitely see more, but Lucy’s already been mad at George and Lockwood about some things in the show, but am I weird in wanting to see that the other way round too 😅

Let me be clear with what I mean by this. Arguments other than "muh Social Democracy exploit the working class of the Global South," and the crocodile tears that come with it.

Now, I know some of you are gonna point out Climate Change, but see, renewable and lesser-waste alternatives are being built, through crowdfunding/government investment/even Capitalist investment. Fighting Climate Change is ultimately profitable because it allows for continuation of humanity and the Capitalist society, it's ultimately profitable, to quite a few people. So IDK why ya'll blame Profit Motive for Climate Change. From a nuanced perspective, it seems like a natural consequence of Industrialization. Would ya'll prefer to go back to agrarian times where people are constantly dying of the Bubonic Plague?
Continuing with Climate Change, idk how you're going to convince people to not use their air conditioning/heating in unpleasant climate. Our aims should be to reduce the environmental impact of these devices, not to attempt appeal to conscience like many of you do. Forcing people living in tropical climate to not use the AC and people living in the North to not use heating is tantamount to Eco-Fascism.
And also your arguments against "Absentee Ownership" and Inheritance. Time and again it has been proven that accumulated wealth doesn't last long unless you take actual efforts into maintaining it. Yes, hiring an investment banker is also an actual effort, because you still have to monitor their actions, you don't leave them alone, they are essentially advisors who you also allow to act on their intuition on your behalf. I do not see how that is not effort because it creates more employment and keeps your money flowing in the economy for re-use. A lesser moral and more practical argument for inheritance is lifestyle shock. If a rich person with a non-working spouse and dependent children dies, and their wealth is taken away, it puts the family through a harsh lifestyle shock because they don't have wealth beyond basic welfare to cope. Like, as if just losing the working male wasn't enough, they are essentially forced to live in welfare poverty BECAUSE SOCIETY CAN'T HELP BUT STEAL THEIR MONEY. HOW FUCKING RICH SOCIALISTS!! FUCKING DARE TO CONVINCE ME THAT THIS SCENARIO IS ACCEPTABLE YA PLONKERS!! Ahem, I think most sensible people here would agree that in this specific scenario it absolutely makes sense for the family to keep the passed one's wealth, so that they aren't forced into lifestyle shock.
I don't even understand the arguments that "WEALTH ACCUMULATION IS BAD." WTF?! Unless somebody is buying fucking gold bars and keeping them locked in some closet somewhere, their digital money is already in use. That's the main reason banks fail, because they can't pay all their customers back at once, they've already spent much of the money deposited with them. The wealth is not accumulated, it's all being used. The same is true for insurance and retirement funds.
Finally, renting living space. This is the ONE ARGUMENT of Socialism I find some agreement with. Safe living space should be a right and I support the Viennese Social Housing model for this. If everyone is guaranteed a living space, renting is merely a matter of convenience and not of requirement. And we pay for a lot of services that are just for convenience, so in this specific matter, renting should be absolutely acceptable. In fact, it will enable renters to decide what to pay for the living space, and remove power from the landlord. The landlord's income would be completely at the mercy of the person just using the property for convenience.

Mogan would have thought a beach-side wedding would be a more romantic affair, and perhaps for them it was. For the tribe, it was a sign that the next generation would be wildly different from the one before it. In few cases would it be this extreme, but Mogan wondered if they would know anything like the hunts and the gathering trips he grew up with.
Perhaps, on the other hand, it was a sign of life, something to counteract the death that had surrounded the tribe for months. Perhaps the problems were really eased, or perhaps Mogan thought so since he didn't have to deal with as many of them.
Not that there weren't problems, here and there. The prohibition on fighting carried outside the tribe—otherwise, how would disputes get settled?--and so there were a dozen duels, two of them resulting in deaths. It seemed that the use of laser pistols, starting with both weapons holstered, was becoming popular, and while this was slightly less dangerous than microflinted spearheads, it was considerably moreso than knives, which were the usual weapon of choice. Then again, one of those deaths came from knives, modern knives with monomolecular edges.
On the other hand, medicine was so different here that nearly anything short of “dead before he hit the ground” was curable. Infection was a thing of the past, and while Mogan had treated infected wounds and outbreaks that swept through the village, thanks to his own implant he had never gotten sick. It was seen as one of his “blessings,” that the spirits of disease were frightened to touch him, and it was taken for granted that Ellisan never got sick either.
For that matter, perhaps fifty women were with child when they left their planet, and not a single woman had died in childbirth. That was a new thing, one which confounded every shaman. Everyone knew that a woman's first birth was the most dangerous day of her life, and for this to no longer be a danger at all was a sign that the San were definitely on the way to better things.
He was right in what he'd suggested to Ellisan, in that the minor explosions were more a result of stress than excess. He himself hadn't touched a woman since Hyeshi, not in anything approaching lust, but he suspected that were it not for that, and were he a younger man he might well be out there himself, appreciating the planet's bounty.
But instead of growing, the fuss died down, and while there were still a few who insisted on drinking too much, control of the budget helped to ease that back as well.
Chadnov, amusingly, had settled into the life of a married man. Ellisan had told him that he'd even asked her quietly for advice on what would make a pregnancy easier. Mogan wasn't sure how serious the man was, but he hadn't been responsible for any of the messes that Mogan had had to clean up, so that was a good sign.
Perhaps even better was that they had spent some time talking. He had seen some marriages—especially ones that started with a child on the way like this one had, where the two of them went months learning about each other in the physical sense without having any discussions about what they were and wanted. Perhaps Chadnov was wiser than Mogan had given him credit for.
And Mogan, in turn, had more time to relax. He never got used to the vehicles, but he was able to swim and to spend time walking among the prettier parts of the city, to try different foods and drinks, and sometimes to just sit on the beach like an indulgent father and watch his people enjoy themselves.
He wasn't the only one who spent time working. Many of them tried to find more information—the stealthiest of the fore-runners were picked to look over the barracks, and others were sent to befriend soldiers and see if they would talk. Ellisan insisted on doing some of it herself. Mogan didn't much like it, but she could pass for Sylfa, especially with cosmetics making her look older, and Mogan did trust her more than the Sylfa poachers with them. He didn't truly think they would betray the tribe, but they weren't part of it, and the people of the San were not their people.
That was why it was a surprise when somewhere around the third week Chadnov wandered over in a way that he probably thought looked casual, sipping one of his now-rare drinks.
“Good eve, Chadnov.” Mogan nodded, thinking. “How is family life treating you?”
“It's a surprise... but how do you do it? How do you live, never seeing her?”
Mogan paused, blinking back tears that he certainly didn't expect. “It's... it's not easy, Chadnov. We... we knew what would happen. I had to disappear, or they would hunt me down, and our daughter to. And she had to show elsewhere, or else they would have looked for her and found us. She landed the shuttle, I carried Ellisan off.... then we turned around to look, and she wasn't there.”
“All this time, I thought you were lucky, blessed more than any of us. It's the opposite, isn't it?”
Mogan stared at the horizon as it tried to crash down on him. Their last few days. The moment when she came back from her meeting with the captain—Shirfa, his name was, but they called him Shircha, Captain Cloaca, because “asshole” just didn't go far enough—when she let them know that she had failed and humanity was declared a non-sapient species. The months they'd spent together, bittersweet months when they'd toured the Sovereignty and also knew that it would tear them apart.
“That's neither here nor there,” Mogan said roughly. “Has something gone wrong?”
“No,” said Chadnov. “We're, uh.. we're actually doing well.” The fact that he had to be defensive about that said that Mogan had failed to hide his feelings as well as he had hoped.
“Please,” Chadnov said. “Be silent and listen.”
Mogan bristled for a moment—this was a hunter in disgrace because of his own dumb decisions, after all. But he paused, and with an effort of will, he didn't respond to the command with any insults. “Alright, Chadnov... Speak then. I'll listen, and I'll try to understand.”
Chadnov nodded. “You wonder how it happened, right? I saw some of you looking at her—she has no chest, she has no hips, her legs are just strange—none of you find her sexy, and... really, I don't either. But we talked, every night around the fires, and she and I sort of have the same place, the same role. She stands in the Sovereignty the same way I stand among the San. Not really insulted, but not really respected, either.”
“Look, I'm... I'm not a smart man. I'm... I'm not like you and Ellisan and Burya, I don't always just... know what I should do and do it because I should; I just... try. I know you think I married her because I can't lead anything if I don't... but I can't lead anything if I do either. Everybody knows... I'm very strong and not very smart; I'll never lead a war party or a hunting party or one of these new units, and sometimes I'm angry about that but I think if I did I would get people hurt.. I can't just... somehow come up with the right way, like you guys can. That's magic to me, just like these implants were magic pebbles once to you and the laser rifles were magic firesticks.”
He took a deep breath. “I'm sorry if I caused trouble for everyone else. I'm trying to make it right—by her, not just by you—but sometimes I just don't know what I'm supposed to do. Maybe I'm the kind of guy tradition is made for. I guess there aren't any real decisions to make if tradition makes them for me, right? That's OK—I'm... not good at making decisions. This way I can let all the wise men for generations back make them for me. And they're wiser than me—by the Frozen Valley, maybe everybody's wiser than me—so they're probably right even if it doesn't make sense to me, right?”
“I'm going to be a father, and I never really thought of that. Not smart, I know—I poked everyone that came close enough; I knew I'd be a father someday, but I just let that be in the future somewhere. But then again, I'm not smart, so I try not to stab myself about it; I can't do what I can't do.”
Mogan nodded. “I think I understand, Chadnov. Believe me, I've felt foolish more than once when I first came to the stars. Nothing made sense to me at all. Besides that, I'm a craftsman. I'm the best craftsman I've ever seen... and then they showed me a machine that can make anything. Right away, perfectly. I think I understand how you feel.”
“Maybe,” Chadnov said, “But I've always been like that. I guess I'm lucky—everybody knew I... wasn't good at thinking stuff through. They didn't expect me to. You came back and all of a sudden they expected you to know everything.”
Mogan chuckled drily. “And you call yourself dumb. You're a good man, Chadnov, and you'll be a good husband.”
“I... thank you, Shaman. That's what I'm focusing on right now. But Karshta and I were talking...”
“That's good. Talking with each other, learning about each other, that's a good start to a marriage.”
“I hope so. But she was talking about how the soldiers didn't really want to be here, and how they were happy for an excuse to get away from this. And I was thinking.... And I'm not good at thinking, I know it. But I had this idea. My ideas are bad ideas, everybody tells me that, but I thought, maybe I'd tell you this one, and you could decide for me.”
“Maybe you're judging your cast a little short before you throw, Chadnov. But what were you thinking?”
“Well, the soldiers at the barracks, they don't want to be here. Karshta says that everybody thought this would be a vacation, but the Governess made them run around out in the woods hunting down people they don't really care about. They want to be relaxing out here on the beach like us, not walking all day every day, especially because, well....”
Mogan chuckled. “Because they really can't.”
“Yes, but nobody wants to spend their time like that. So Karshta and I talked, and we thought... I'm sure this is a stupid idea—go ahead and laugh, but I have to say it just in case... What if we just... went to the barracks and asked them to leave? Just.... give them some sovereigns and tell them they can go somewhere else if they say “I surrender”?”
Chadnov flinched and almost fell off his chair—or bed, Mogan was really still not sure—as Mogan leaped to his feet.

This is my very first reddit account ever, im an aethiest with spiritual beliefs but i openly take any and all interpretations- religious or not <3
Recently, about maybe 4-5 days ago, I had a dream where I died, was reincarnated, found myself alive again(somewhat), and given a date of my death.
In the beginning of the dream, im "dreaming" within it, it was like my normal dreams that averagely dont make sense- traveling with a think a couple of video characters in a jumble of version of a area I used to live. We climb a hill with a cliff edge, and eat mushrooms, and then i "woke up". It was a sudden change but u was suddenly a deer, large anltlers at the edge of a forest, day time, light down on me, a lake. I was eating grass on this small land unattached from the forest besides me by a stream of water before a 2 more deer — who i remembered to be family members — came to get me.
Like the first half, it was quickly done, and it suddenly came to me that I had died, but I was in my body again rather than a deer's. I could go through my phone, and see what had happened, posts and comments on my death from about a year ago- stuff from my grandma, my ex, and im sure others, but thats the most I remembered. My partner suddenly walks inti my room, able to see me(Throughout the dream, who is actually able to interact with me varies which why i said i was somewhat alive bc at the same time i definitely wasnt). They got angry, saying id faked my death in the middle of me writing a note to different family members(including s/o) about how much i loved them and i was sorry. I tried to hug them but they pushed me away and suddenly was gone the next second. I skip to a part where im talking to my mom, obviously confused but we're both sat in the living room. She told me i died May 5th, 2023 meaning the dream was set in 2024(a yr later), i asked how, she told me i walked off a cliff while asleep(I dont actually sleep walk irl but it nods to the very very beginning of this long dream).
The dream ended around there after I spoke with my mom, waking up pretty pyched out because id never dreamed about death nor have I ever dreamed of being an animal or getting a specific date. I don't really know if there's much of a meaning behind it but id really like to know if anyone had any like, ideas of what it could mean?

I (20, trans male) am not convinced my friend (23, nonbinary) doesn't have a crush on me. Something important to note before I explain, I am neurodivergent so therefore I have a hard time understanding social cues and tone, but I don't wish to further elaborate since this is a throwaway account. With that being said, I will now give a little context as to how I got to this point. So, I have been friends with this person for about a year by now, and admittedly I did have a small crush on them when I first met them, but it immediately began to fade when I learned that they're asexual and aromantic, basically telling me that I had no chance with them. We used to be kind of distant at the beginning, they wouldn't message me too often, maybe once or twice in a week, and we would usually talk over voice call on discord maybe every other day or so? But it was never a private voice call, it was always where other people could come in as they liked. Albeit, the server was small, but sometimes friends would join in and stick around. Anyway, point being, we mostly chatted over voice call in public spaces for the first portion of our friendship. After some time, I grew a little distant from discord as a whole, so I usually took a while to reply to them and I was less on voice call, but we got closer again when I started messaging them through whatsapp, since it's less hassle for me because discord is slow on my phone. Anyway, when we started messaging on whatsapp, thats when I started questioning if they had a crush on me because they would message me every single day, without fail, and would want to call whenever they got the chance. They started getting busy because of school and work, so it was understandable that they would message me whenever they got the chance, but I always found it strange that they would message me good morning every morning, compared to the fact they never used to do that. There's also a few other things they do/did that make me question if they have a thing for me, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I have asked them twice now if they have a crush on me and both times they've told me no, confidently, and the second time they said, "No, sorry. I see myself more as a parental figure towards you than anything else." When I asked them why they were sorry, since I told them I was just curious didn't mean anytging by it before I asked if they have a crush on me, they said, "Because I expected you to want me to have a crush on you." Not weird on its own, in my opinion, but given the context, I think its a little strange, since they know I have a girlfriend (Sorry, forgot to mention that). They are also friends with my girlfriend to an extent, but even my girlfriend is skeptical of my friend because she feels the same way I do about this situatuon. I tell my girlfriend almost everything that happens with this friend of mine, and she has never liked this friend, so this has just given her more reason to dislike my friend. As for the reason my girlfriend has never liked her? Well, she doesn't like very many people, but that's a whole other story. I don't mind that she doesn't like my friend. I would really appreciate advice on what to do in this situation, I've even been thinking about cutting contact with the friend, but at the same time, I like being friends with them... Something else I think I should mention; I met my girlfriend and this friend of mine around the same time, but I was not dating my girlfriend yet when I had a small crush on this friend.
TLDR: I am neurodivergent, so I can't understand social cues/tone. Friend of mine, 23NB, seems like they may have a crush on me, but has told me they don't more than once, and that they see me as more of their child. Was not as close, rarely messaging and usually voice calling in public spaces near beginning of friendship, but recently have gotten closer as we moved from discord to whatsapp, and they now message a good morning message every day, as well as wanting to call as much as their schedule allows. Girlfriend is skeptical of them, she feels the same way I do, that it's strange my friend has suddenly gotten closer to me. I need advice on what to do please.

The desire to own land has been moving the prepping and off-grid communities for generations. Having a few acres that give you room to do almost anything you can think of is a dream for many of us. Even more, achieving self-sufficiency on such a lot, and having a large pond or a small woodlot, is the ultimate life goal for some.
Owning half an acre or more provides you with endless possibilities when it comes to farming and you must become as efficient as possible to avoid wasting time and resources. With a large lot, you just won’t have the time to do everything you want, and you will keep yourself busy all day trying to cover everything that needs to be done.

Tools are needed

If you have a plot of land ranging from one to five acres, you will need certain tools to make your life easier. For example, a chainsaw can be used for both landscaping jobs and rough carpentry if needed.
If you plan to build a fence, you will need various tools to do the job right. A 13-pounds maul is an indispensable tool for wooden posts, and if you use fence wire, you’ll need wire stretchers.
The more fencing you have; the more work will be needed to keep vegetation from growing up in the fence lines. In such a case, a string trimmer becomes mandatory to clear the weeds.
Pulling and lifting jobs become impossible chores without a hand winch, a tool that becomes indispensable at times.

A sturdy barn

As time goes by, you will acquire more and more tools, and you’ll find that a barn will become the ideal place to store all those tools. Even more, it will keep feed dry, it can host machinery and protect it from the elements, and it can accommodate your livestock. It can host a milking parlor for goats and pretty much all the utilities you can think of.
Most people go with the two-story, gable-roofed barn since this design passed the efficiency and time-lasting tests. Some folks incorporate their chicken coop into their barn, especially if one side of the building provides access to a pasture area. Also, keep in mind that your barn should be connected to a corral. By doing so, you will be able to move livestock between pens but also load them into a truck with ease.
Building a barn is not easy since you’re dealing with a large construction project, and it becomes a major responsibility. Your barn needs to be strong enough to hold a heavy load in the upper loft and be able to also keep the elements out.
When you decide to build a barn, look up the term “pole barns” since these empty shells can be erected for a reasonable price. Once you have the framework up and the roof in place, you will also be able to work on the rest of the barn as time and budget allow it.

Building a greenhouse

Plastic sheeting, matched with plastic plumbing pipes and some scrap wood, allows you to build a cheap, small greenhouse that can host all your bedding plants and the seedlings you plan on selling.
There are all sorts of DIY YouTube videos that show you how to build inexpensive greenhouses. Having a greenhouse allows you to start the growing season early if you start your plants inside that greenhouse. It will also allow you to start potted plants, bedding plants, and pretty much anything you can think of without worrying about the late frost.

Using your land efficiently

Having five acres provides you with the opportunity to take on just about any agricultural project you want. You will also be able to experiment with various projects, and you will discover that some will have greater success than others.
Having enough room allows you to experiment with different animals, crops, and various ways to monetize your operations. You will soon discover which works best for your situation and how much time you must spend to achieve a successful backyard farm.

Setting a pasture

Some of the acreages on your farm should be used to establish a pasture for large meat-producing animals such as small cattle, pigs, sheep, alpacas. Anything other than chicken and rabbits could feed off this pasture.
The tricky thing with pastures is establishing how much pasture you allow per animal. This means that any given area can support a maximum number of animals. If you have a real winter with heavy frost and temperatures below the freezing point, for example, you will need to supplement your animals’ diet with hat, grains, or meal.
The quality of your pasture also impacts the number of animals it can sustain. To establish how good the land in your area is, you should ask local farmers for their opinions. Those with experience will be able to provide you with tips on how to increase the soil quality, what works best, and what doesn’t.

Planting an orchard

Planting an orchard can bring you a good profit and provide you with more fruits than you could eat. However, the trick here is to establish which trees to plant. Plus, you should know that people have switched from standard-sized trees to dwarf fruit trees in recent years. They are doing so since it was established that you could get more fruit from such small trees, and you also cut corners on having to buy ladders and other equipment needed to pick the fruit.
A one-acre orchard can host around 100 standard-sized fruit trees that will bear fruit in five years. On the other hand, you could have between 400 to 600 dwarf fruit trees on that same acre, and they will bear fruit starting with the second or third year.

Establishing a woodlot

Growing your own woodlot from scratch isn’t very practical, and it takes time, even if you plant fast-growing species. Even more, you should consider that the trees with the best firewood or those used in furniture manufacturing are usually the slowest growing ones.
However, if you already have a stand of timber on the land you bought, you can improve its growth, and in return, you will get some free firewood. Before deciding if you want to heat your home using only firewood, you must establish how well insulated your home is, how the climate in your area will affect your wood supply, and how efficient your wood burner is.
Also, you should consider the growth rate and the actual burning rate of the various species of trees available on your lot. To get a general idea of how much land is needed to grow your own firewood, you can establish how much wood you are using per year and compare that number with the standing timber you currently have on your property.

Growing feed

If you have more than one acre of land, you can establish a feed growing area in which corn, sorghum cane, and other animal feeds can be grown. How much feed you can obtain from one acre is subjected to different variables, but you can keep in mind that the national field corn production average is between 110 and 150 bushels per acre.
If you manage to successfully grow your own feed, you’ll need a place to store it. So, here is where that barn comes into play.
Traditionally, field corn is kept in whole ears in corncribs, and smaller grains are kept in large cans or sacks. Sorghum cane is made into silage (high moisture fermented feed) by packing it into plastic bags and letting anaerobic fermentation do the work. Some folks also opt for silage instead of hay since it is much more nutritious for their livestock, so you might want to consider this option as well.
Some homesteaders grow beets as livestock feed since they hold their nutrients well during storage. But you have to consider that growing and harvesting beets is a much more sustained effort compared to other feed crops.

Creating a pond

A pond is usually a body of water that is smaller than a lake, and digging one is not as expensive as some folks believe, considering the benefits you get for the rest of your life. You can hire heavy equipment for the day and have a decent-sized pond dug in one day’s time.
So, eight hours will be pretty much all the time you need to have your pond built. However, you must make sure you have clay-like soil in the area where you plan to create the pond; otherwise, you will have to line it with plastic or bentonite clay.
Also, consider that your land needs enough slope so that rain runoff can be diverted and keep your pond full. Once you have it filled with rainwater, you also have to stock it with fish and wait for the fish population to establish. Some large ponds won’t require feeding the fish, but in general, the fish will grow much faster if you take care of their needs in the first two years.

Raising small livestock

Establishing a pasture allows you to keep a milk cow, but you have to figure out if your family is ready for a milk cow and if you can use that much milk. Instead of dealing with one or two milk cows (since some also decide to sell raw milk – which is a complicated endeavor), you could concentrate your efforts on smaller livestock like miniature cattle, sheep, and other animals.

Miniature cattle

Tiny bovines have gained a lot of popularity in the last decade since some are not taller than 36 inches, and they can be raised for milk and meat without having to deal with the issues encountered when raising full-sized cattle. They are easier to handle, and transport and they require a smaller area, being cheaper to feed.
Miniature cattle are the micro version of the most common cattle breeds such as Holstein, Angus, Jersey, Hereford, but also Longhorn and Brahman. They can provide the right amount of meat for your family, and as far as your milk needs go, a miniature Holstein can give up to 3 gallons of milk per day.

Sheep

Sheep will provide you with meat and milk and the valuable wool, which still remains the most used animal fiber on earth. If you decide to raise sheep, you should know that such animals require lush pastures and good fencing to contain them. Pastures for sheep are generally a mix of grass, forbs, and clover, but your sheep can also eat grains and hay. They also need clean, fresh water and an open-front shed.
To establish how many sheep you can raise, you can use the old rule stating that eight sheep can be raised on the land needed by one Jersey cow. Also, since you will use manure as fertilizer, you should know that one sheep can produce more than a ton of manure per year, and in general, sheep manure is a much better fertilizer compared to cattle manure.
One alternative for your animal fiber-producing project would be to raise alpacas. The value of alpaca fiber is unmatched due to its similarity to wool but also because it’s less itch and has hypoallergenic properties. You can go with the Suri breed with long and straight hair or pick the Huacaya breed with wooly and dense hair.

Pigs

Many Americans love pork meat, and everyone I’ve met so far loves bacon. That being said, you should know that swine can be raised successfully, even in very small areas, in a humane manner. That is, of course, if you don’t have close neighbors that could be bothered by your meat production mission.
Some farm-friendly communities will allow you to grow everything except pigs since they “smell bad.” However, this is a misconception, and pigs are usually clean animals if they are not crammed together in small spaces. Pen pigs stand up to their reputation in terms of smell and cleanliness, so free-range pigs (pigs raised on pastures and in woodlands) may be the way to go if you have the available space.

Helpful machinery to consider

No backyard farm is complete without a few helpful machines that make all chores much easier. Here are some options you should consider if you embark on such a project.

Tractor

Tractors come in all sizes and shapes (although they do look alike), and there are clear distinctions between a small tractor and, let’s say, a riding lawnmower. Your riding lawn mower has a single purpose (mowing the lawn), and it usually has about three speeds forward. On the other hand, a small tractor can have between four and ten speeds forward, hydraulics, a three-point hitch, and a heavy-duty build that should last for a lifetime (ideally).
Small tractors can be used to pull trailers full of heavy things, and they have gears for various tasks. Some of the more popular implements are plow, grader blade, mower, bush-hog, log splitter, loader, and post-hole auger.
Tractors provide you with many options, and you can do a lot of jobs that you won’t consider until the time to do so comes. They are well-built, and they aren’t cheap since they are considered universal pieces of machinery or tools. That said, you can opt for a good used tractor if money is a problem.
If you have five acres or less, you can also go with a smaller tractor, and you can pick an import one from Japan, Korea, China, or India. Or you can look for an old Ford N-serries. Even so, there are pros and cons to each.
The import ones are newer and more modern and have various features such as very low range transmissions and many forward speeds, modern hydraulics, and a four-wheel-drive system that will prove quite handy. However, the more complex they are, the harder it will be to fix them.
On the other hand, the Ford N-series are much simpler, and they allow you to fix almost everything yourself, provided you have the owner’s manual and the wits to do it. Even if the Fords are old models, there are many out there in perfect running condition, and their simplicity in design makes them a great purchase. Parts are cheap and easy to install, and you can get a good used one for half the price you will pay for an import one.

Two-wheel tractor

These little machines are known in popular terms as “walk-behind tractors” and can till up a heavy garden in short order with little input from the operator. These are the perfect machines if you have ground to till, and they can perform other jobs as well, provided you have the proper attachments. For example, you can blow snow using a two-wheel tractor, or you can pull carts loaded with heavy items.

Skid-steer loader

You can also find a small skid loader on many farms since these machines do not require steering like tractors, and they can pivot by breaking one side or the other. They are extremely useful and easy to operate in close quarters since they can turn around at their own length.
Let’s say you need to move and place something within an inch or so of a certain area. Using a tractor requires complex maneuvers to do the job right but using a skid loader will make working in one spot a precise and fast operation.
And just like tractors, such types of machinery have all sorts of available implements that will fit on the front. This alone makes them ideal for lifting and moving things. They can do various bulldozer-like jobs if they are equipped with the proper implements, and some people will even dig their own ponds using nothing more than a skid-steer loader. You can also find implements such as tree shears, stump grinders, buckets, and grapples for your loaders.
Even more, these are the preferred machines and a treasured investment for those farming in their late years since they can handle a lot of lifting and portability tasks.

Farming on a large plot of land offers a lot of opportunities, but one also needs to plan things ahead before the heavy lifting starts. Each project will have its ups and downs, and some will prove to be most rewarding and minimize the failure of the less successful ones.
Having the right tools and the proper knowledge to use them to handle various jobs also becomes mandatory on a large farm. You will spend your time more efficiently, and you will be able to take care of more and more tasks if you have the tools that can replace manual labor. The possibilities are endless, but you need to consider your abilities and limitations when farming on a large lot.

Yesterday I played a gig with the dj booth directly above the subs. Because of my tinnitus, I always wear ear protection at gigs or when I'm out with my friends. But the bass was so loud that my nearly fully blocking ear plugs had no chance keeping my ears comfortable, today they are ringing additional to my tinnitus. Do you guys have any experience with active sound cancellation or something else that can keep my ears safe altough wearing strong ear plugs? Any tips would be really helpful.
(If people have concerns the speakers where too loud in general, the loudness was controlled by some technician and under legal limits, my position between/above the speakers was just bad but couldnt be changed so please no comments about that.)

oh boy, here we go. My partner has a crush on their coworker and it is becoming obsessive. It all started when they told me they told someone they worked with a person was cute. the person they told went to the one they called "cute" and told them. I was informed by someone else they work with (ill call them a whistleblower) that they eat lunch together, so now they eat lunch everyday together. I was already skeptical right away, but they are (in my experience) very honest and never hid anything from me. I asked them and they told me the truth, so I didn't want to overreact or blow something out of proportion as it is normal to find other people attractive, but yeah, the friendship was slightly bothersome, but i trusted them and gave them the benefit of the doubt. a few weeks later the whistleblower that came to me the first time now told me they *sit next* to each other rather than across. (it's a booth). We don't even do that. Again, I asked them and they told me 'Only when there are other people taking up the other seats" alright that's reasonable. now the whistleblower is telling me that its not true and they sit next to each other even if nobody else is there. I asked my partner, they told m no, at this point I'm like "whatever I'm not gonna start an argument about seating arrangements" now what happens next absolutely shocked me. The whistleblower told me that they went out to eat together. I didn't believe it at fist like at all. Again, I asked my partner and they said they did... WOW. I asked them "why didn't you tell me" they said "because I knew you would overreact" I responded "well now do you know why I am worried about this? because now you're hiding things form me" (I honestly categorize hiding as the same as lying to me). I was hurt because what the heck. senone they have a crush now went out to eat with them and they hid it from me (and wouldn't have told me until I found out). *preface* they have been doing "wicca" or "magick" that they claim they are using it for "financial success" ok whatever. They in the office every night lighting candles, crushing herbs, and whatever else. one day I just have a really weird feeling and i go into the office to look at the "spells" they are doing. They had a piece of paper with THEIR FIRST NAME AND THE COWORKERS LAST NAME UNDER A LOVE CANDLE. WTF???? At this point I'm just absolutely annoyed and pissed off. Right away, I ask them "do you just want to leave me at this point? I'm tired of this. You need to stop as this is wrong and now I don't trust you anymore and I'm uncomfortable." They claimed it was a "Test" to see if i would "snoop on their stuff" because it was the "first time they did that" I said "That's not even true don't lie because i never snooped on you before, I guess I just have great intuition if that s the case." Basically admitted it wasn't a test (duh I'm not dumb). I then went on to explain that they are obsessing over someone they find attractive and they are acting like they are in middle school because this is getting ridiculous and its all in their head whatever is going on. they said from now on they are done with the whole crush thing. They sounded sincere and I thought I could rest peacefully. They started showing slightly more affection (barely any to begin with like at all). This happened maybe a few weeks ago. Then yesterday they told me they "had a dream where they were kissing their coworker" (the Crush) WTH. I didn't care that much because a dream is a dream, but i honestly would have rather not have been told about it because now its flaring up everything. Now to today. They got in the mail a bunch of crystals and they continue to do magick whatever. Again, I had a weird feeling today. I went in the office to check on their stuff and they had a book that was bookmarked and it said the different meaning for different colored candles. They lit a red and pink one.... THEY ARE LOVE/RELATIONSHIP SPELLS. WHY? I'm just so annoyed and just done. I'm going to talk to them later today about it because this is just getting out of hand. It's a coworker, so they see each other everyday and there is nothing I can do about it. This is honestly bringing back my past relationships where I feel the need to check their location and see what they are doing. It's not healthy for me at all. I asked if there is anything I could improve on in the relationship or anything they need to talk about and they reassured me everything is fine. It feels like they are trying to start a fling and once they start "dating" the other person they are goin to break up with me. They even said 'they aren't looking for a relationship right now anyway" ok? and what if they were? then what? I honestly don't have the energy, time, or money to leave them if i wanted to. We do live together, but it didn't stop them from being able to go out to eat with them. They also fetishize their coworker and bring them up almost every other day. I've already given al ultimatum, but at this point I just want to throw all their "magick" stuff away because that is a major reason why they keep feeling these emotions and enhancing them. Anyway, if you read this far, thank you and even if there is no advice, writing this helped me. I also want to say, I never doubted them or "snooped" through their stuff before. I only did it the two times I told you and clearly, my Intuition was right. I honestly, don't think the other person is into my partner or would pursue a relationship, but you never know. It's hindering our relationship all because someone they felt was attractive gave them attention, so anything "nice" they do is completely blown out of proportion and they are manifesting all of this romantic stuff by themselves. (clearly, because if the other person felt the same way the wouldn't need to be lighting candles). they are also co-dependent, so they will never leave me if they don't have someone else in line ready to be in a relationship. We've been in a relationship for about 2 years and again, they never hid or lied anything from me. This is a first from them, so I just don't know how to navigate this. Hopefully the coworker dates someone else or something similar because then it would be a done deal and I wouldn't have to worry about anything because their "dream" has been dismantled (if that makes sense).
