Answer: Just like our Universe, we begin with The Postulate of Intrinsic Consciousness, which states,
All the physical Energy that came into existence at t = 0, in the Big Bang event is, and always has been, intrinsically conscious within Itself.
Or,
The Big Bang wasn't only a physical event, It was also a conscious experience experienced within the physical Energy Itself.
Or, most succinctly put,
E = C, Energy = Consciousness.
This makes sense, of course, because you, yourself, are a physical object, namely, your body, which is formed out of nothing except a small subset of the basic physical Energy that came into existence in the Big Bang event, and you are also a conscious experience experienced within your physical form.
So, under this Postulate, In the Beginning a very dense, infinitesimally small, perfectly symmetric sphere of conscious physical Energy, in fact, we say “physico-conscious” Energy, came into existence in the Big Bang event.
At some time later than t = 0, this basic, original, physico-conscious Energy formed particles out of Itself, and since the basic Energy they're formed out of is conscious, then, obviously, so are the particles.
Viewed Objectively, that is to say, from withoutside of itself, a particle is a spherical region of increased Energy density possessing approximately measurable physical variables, velocity, temperature etc..
Just like when you're observed objectively you’re also a physical object with approximately measurable physical properties.
Subjectively, all individual quantum particles experience themselves as singular, individual, centres of Consciousness.
Just like you subjectively experience yourself as a singular center of Consciousness within your physical form.
All individual conscious particles, as well as all individual conscious entities, including yourself, possess some limited conscious perception of their local surrounding Universe.
As well as Limited Free Will, the conscious ability to freely choose from limited sets of possible future states and actions to instantiate; the collapse of the wavefunction is a conscious act, specifically, a conscious choice.
For example, when an electron enters a magnetic field, it behaves like a compass needle that can point in one of only two directions within the field, towards the northerly direction of the field, or else in exactly the opposite direction. This phenomenon is referred to as the electron’s “spin”.
When an electron enters a magnetic field it always aligns its spin either “spin-up” or “spin-down” with respect to the field.
Very importantly, it is technically and absolutely impossible to predict or predetermine in which direction any given electron will actually align its spin before the electron actually does collapse into one of the two directions.

Thus, conscious electrons are just like conscious humans, in that their actions are impossible to exactly predetermine and the best we can do is assign probabilities to each of the possible states and actions available to them to instantiate.
For example, if I ask you to snap the fingers of one of your hands, it is impossible for me, or anyone, to predetermine which hand you will actually choose to snap.
Since you have two hands I can assign approximate probabilities of 50% to the two possibilities. ( Since more people are right hand dominant we can expect some skew favouring right hands )
So, just like an electron, you have some limited conscious perception of your local surrounding Universe ( look around you ), as well as limited Free Will; you can't choose to instantiate anything you can imagine, like flying, for example, but you can freely choose to instantiate any of the physically possible future states and actions you can imagine, like walking, for example.
A bird is a very different formation of physico-conscious Energy than a human, and its physical form is such that ‘flight’ is regularly a member of the set of possible future states and actions that the bird can freely will to instantiate.
You have totally Free Will, just like you experience having every waking moment of your life, however, it is limited by the Laws of Physics as well as by your physico-conscious formation.
Atomic Intelligence
The basic conscious particles of our Universe have spent the last fourteen billion years evolving into more and more complex configurations and formations, from particles, atoms, and molecules, all the way up to humans, formations of physico-conscious Energy so complex that we are capable of consciously reflecting on the nature of our own Consciousness.
This evolution of complexity has also been an evolution of conscious intelligence.
Since the nucleus of any atom is much more massive than its surrounding electrons, the nucleus can energetically dominate its electrons.
The nucleus of an atom can emit energetic radiation, photons, in the direction of a surrounding electron exciting it into a higher energy level which also changes its position in space.
And since all of space is permeated with electric field, along with the fact that electrons possess negative electric charge, means that when an electron’s position changes a corresponding electric force will act on the atom resulting in a change its velocity, that is, a change in its speed and/or the direction of its motion through space; a nucleus can use its surrounding electrons as “electric rudders” to steer through space.
In short, a nucleus possessing one or more electrons can consciously steer itself through space, and the more electrons a nucleus is surrounded by, the more exactly and skillfully, which is to say, the more intelligently, it can consciously navigate its way through space.

Terrestrially, over the course of fourteen billion years, this natural evolution of the complexity of physico-conscious forms has culminated in the physico-conscious entity we refer to as the Human Being.
A human being, your good self, for example, is a centre of Consciousness surrounded by a very vast quantity of individually conscious neurons ( and the other types of cells of your body ), like a nucleus surrounded by electrons.
Your primary centre of Consciousness, which like everything in our Universe is formed out of nothing except the basic physico-conscious Energy of our Universe, resides at the centre of your central nervous system, somewhere behind your eyes, which it uses, that is, which you use, to physico-consciously connect with and control the actions of your physico-conscious body.
Your brain and sense organs mediate between your centre of Consciousness, your conscious sensation of Self, and your local surrounding Universe in all the various ways you're intimately familiar with as a conscious human.
For example, your physico-conscious eyes, occipital lobe, etc. mediate between the photons of your local surrounding Universe and your centre of Consciousness where you experience your conscious visual experience of your local surrounding Universe.
Your nerve fibers employ what we call “Chameleon Consciousness”, which is when a conscious entity, or group of conscious entities, are capable of taking on the conscious state of whatever physio-conscious formation they happen to be embedded in.
So, for example, the nerve endings embedded in your big toe take on the conscious state of the cells in your toe surrounding them, and, thus, by way of your nervous system, your centre of Consciousness can choose to energise the neuronal pathways to your big toe and you can share in its conscious experience.
Try for yourself, freely choose to put your conscious attention in your favourite big toe and see how it's doing. If you stubbed it this morning you'll be able to share in the conscious sensation of its pain and throbbing.
This is an example of the passive, or witnessing, function of your nervous system, as well as proof that your entire physical form is conscious which can only be explained if all the basic physical Energy and particles you're formed out of are themselves conscious.
You can also use your nervous system actively to activate the different functions and capabilities of your brain and body.
Most immediately your centre of Consciousness can connect with the regions of your brain in your prefrontal cortex that you use to imagine things visually.
Again, it's worth mindfully witnessing how you can freely choose to do this whenever you want; close your eyes and imagine a tree, or the face of your latest crush, or what have you.
In doing so, you, your centre of Consciousness, physico-consciously connected with the conscious neurons of your imagination, which you can consciously ‘throw’ or ‘cast’ like conscious clay such that your private ( thank God! ) conscious experience of them is the image of whatever you chose to imagine.
Of course, your imagination isn't as vivid as when you see a real tree or face with your eyes because the density of neurons you're using to form the image is orders of magnitude lower than the density of particles and atoms that form an actual tree or face. Thus, we see with our imaginations only “as if through a glass darkly”.
Moving your Hand
All the particles, atoms, and molecules forming the muscle fibers of your arm and hand are quantum entities, and as such can discontinuously jump into, or we say “collapse” into different physical states from a preceding state.
When your centre of Consciousness, you, wants to lift your hand, you consciously will it to move, which involves you consciously connecting to the regions of your brain involved in movement, and from there a nervous signal is sent to the muscle fibers in each of the relevant muscles of your hand.
When the signal arrives at the muscle fibers, its effect is to stimulate them in such a way that they consciously jump into their contracted state.
Nerve fibers are distributed throughout any given muscle such that all its fibers contract at approximately the same time.
How did I Learn how to Control my Muscles?
As we already noted, your nerves can function passively and actively.
This means that any time you connect with your muscles to move them, you are simultaneously physico-consciously connected to their conscious experience, which is just to say that you know what your muscles consciously feel like when you contract them.
This is how you consciously learn to control your body; at first you don’t know how to control your limbs and you just experiment by sending random conscious impulses to them, resulting in the random, uncoordinated movements of newborn babies.
After some time experimenting in this way, since the baby has conscious sensation of her muscular movement, she learns how it feels to move her arm in one direction compared to another, and before very long she has learnt how to move her limbs in any direction she wants.
You experience a similar conscious experience any time you learn some new physical skill.
Your physico conscious Self, or physico-conscious Soul, is a large and very complex quantum molecule that has taken millions of years of evolution to achieve Its current level of complexity.
Your physico-conscious Soul has the ability to consciously choose some of Its future states and actions, like an electron can consciously choose between aligning spin-up and spin-down.
However, you are a vastly more complex formation of conscious Energy than an electron, and as such you can choose from proportionally more states and actions to choose from, hop, skip, dance, cry etc..
Of these different states that you can choose to instantiate, some of them are such that the effect on your surrounding brain is that a signal is sent to your muscles to move your hand in particular directions.
Thus, you know how you have to consciously feel, or how you have to consciously “will” within yourself, depending on how exactly you want your hand to move.
The more experimentation you do the more refined your movements become, and this can continue long into adulthood if our baby grows up to become a ballet dancer, for example.
All of this experimentation is pre-verbal and non-verbal; it can be achieved long before the baby has learnt any language, indeed, it is regularly achieved by every other animal species on the planet without any possibility of language whatsoever.
Similarly, you can move your body without any verbal activity; your inner voice can be totally silent while you walk or dance, for example, indeed, this silencing of your inner voice can improve your performance of such activities.
This is why you can't really verbally explain what the difference is between when you move your left hand or your right; you just intuitively, non-verbally, know how you need to consciously feel within yourself to bring about specific desired movements.
But, of course, humans specialise in multitasking, so, if you want to, you can also enjoy a conversation with someone, or with yourself, at the same time as walking or dancing.

I've a close family member and two other people who are narcissistic females. I've noticed they argue with U on purpose sometimes.
They would deliberately treat U like a puppet. In the end, U spend months feeling guilty.
They'll always find the smallest flaws in Ur work or words to criticise U. Make U feel overwhelmed enough to fight with them.
Even after U've apologised, they'll still tell everyone U never apologise.
Ppl with BPD or ADHD are most susceptible to their abuse. Cause we have a hard time managing our anger. We spend months ruminating on these things, and we "depicted" as the villains.
Fe narcissists can easily use it to seem Ur the bad guy!
I was always helpful to my mother. I went shopping with her, did chores, and stuff. However, she always found the smallest flaws and pick fights with U about it. When I was younger, I believed I did so much wrong. Now, I realised she's a damaged person! She's badmouth me to her own our relatives about how I never do anything, when I did everything I could.

If the electron is aligned exactly in one of the directions before entering the field, the probability of the electron surprising us and flipping around into the more distant alignment becomes progressively smaller, but still possible.
Thus, conscious electrons are just like conscious humans, in that their actions are impossible to exactly predetermine and the best we can do is assign probabilities to each of the possible states and actions available to them to instantiate.
For example, if I ask you to snap the fingers of one of your hands, it is impossible for me, or anyone, to predetermine which hand you will actually choose to snap.
Since you have two hands I can assign approximate probabilities of 50% to the two possibilities. ( Since more people are right hand dominant we can expect some skew favouring right hands )
So, just like an electron, you have some limited conscious perception of your local surrounding Universe ( look around you ), as well as limited Free Will; you can't choose to instantiate anything you can imagine, like flying, for example, but you can freely choose to instantiate any of the physically possible future states and actions you can imagine, like walking, for example.
A bird is a very different formation of physico-conscious Energy than a human, and its physical form is such that ‘flight’ is regularly a member of the set of possible future states and actions that the bird can freely will to instantiate.
You have totally Free Will, just like you experience having every waking moment of your life, however, it is limited by the Laws of Physics as well as by your physico-conscious formation.
Atomic Intelligence
The basic conscious particles of our Universe have spent the last fourteen billion years evolving into more and more complex configurations and formations, from particles, atoms, and molecules, all the way up to humans, formations of physico-conscious Energy so complex that we are capable of consciously reflecting on the nature of our own Consciousness.
This evolution of complexity has also been an evolution of conscious intelligence.
Since the nucleus of any atom is much more massive than its surrounding electrons, the nucleus can energetically dominate its electrons.
The nucleus of an atom can emit energetic radiation, photons, in the direction of a surrounding electron exciting it into a higher energy level which also changes its position in space.
And since all of space is permeated with electric field, along with the fact that electrons possess negative electric charge, means that when an electron’s position changes a corresponding electric force will act on the atom resulting in a change its velocity, that is, a change in its speed and/or the direction of its motion through space; a nucleus can use its surrounding electrons as “electric rudders” to steer through space.
In short, a nucleus possessing one or more electrons can consciously steer itself through space, and the more electrons a nucleus is surrounded by, the more exactly and skillfully, which is to say, the more intelligently, it can consciously navigate its way through space.
This is an example of how The Principles of The Physics of Consciousness allow us to construct rigorously scientific theories of Conscious Intelligence from first principles.
Homo Sapiens
Terrestrially, over the course of fourteen billion years, this natural evolution of the complexity of physico-conscious forms has culminated in the physico-conscious entity we refer to as the Human Being.
A human being, your good self, for example, is a centre of Consciousness surrounded by a very vast quantity of individually conscious neurons ( and the other types of cells of your body ), like a nucleus surrounded by electrons.
Your primary centre of Consciousness, which like everything in our Universe is formed out of nothing except the basic physico-conscious Energy of our Universe, resides at the centre of your central nervous system, somewhere behind your eyes, which it uses, that is, which you use, to physico-consciously connect with and control the actions of your physico-conscious body.
Your brain and sense organs mediate between your centre of Consciousness, your conscious sensation of Self, and your local surrounding Universe in all the various ways you're intimately familiar with as a conscious human.
For example, your physico-conscious eyes, occipital lobe, etc. mediate between the photons of your local surrounding Universe and your centre of Consciousness where you experience your conscious visual experience of your local surrounding Universe.
Your nerve fibers employ what we call “Chameleon Consciousness”, which is when a conscious entity, or group of conscious entities, are capable of taking on the conscious state of whatever physio-conscious formation they happen to be embedded in.
So, for example, the nerve endings embedded in your big toe take on the conscious state of the cells in your toe surrounding them, and, thus, by way of your nervous system, your centre of Consciousness can choose to energise the neuronal pathways to your big toe and you can share in its conscious experience.
Try for yourself, freely choose to put your conscious attention in your favourite big toe and see how it's doing. If you stubbed it this morning you'll be able to share in the conscious sensation of its pain and throbbing.
This is an example of the passive, or witnessing, function of your nervous system, as well as proof that your entire physical form is conscious which can only be explained if all the basic physical Energy and particles you're formed out of are themselves conscious.
You can also use your nervous system actively to activate the different functions and capabilities of your brain and body.
Most immediately your centre of Consciousness can connect with the regions of your brain in your prefrontal cortex that you use to imagine things visually.
Again, it's worth mindfully witnessing how you can freely choose to do this whenever you want; close your eyes and imagine a tree, or the face of your latest crush, or what have you.
In doing so, you, your centre of Consciousness, physico-consciously connected with the conscious neurons of your imagination, which you can consciously ‘throw’ or ‘cast’ like conscious clay such that your private ( thank God! ) conscious experience of them is the image of whatever you chose to imagine.
Of course, your imagination isn't as vivid as when you see a real tree or face with your eyes because the density of neurons you're using to form the image is orders of magnitude lower than the density of particles and atoms that form an actual tree or face. Thus, we see with our imaginations only “as if through a glass darkly”.
Moving your Hand
All the particles, atoms, and molecules forming the muscle fibers of your arm and hand are quantum entities, and as such can discontinuously jump into, or we say “collapse” into different physical states from a preceding state.
When your centre of Consciousness, you, wants to lift your hand, you consciously will it to move, which involves you consciously connecting to the regions of your brain involved in movement, and from there a nervous signal is sent to the muscle fibers in each of the relevant muscles of your hand.
When the signal arrives at the muscle fibers, its effect is to stimulate them in such a way that they consciously jump into their contracted state.
Nerve fibers are distributed throughout any given muscle such that all its fibers contract at approximately the same time.
How did I Learn how to Control my Muscles?
As we already noted, your nerves can function passively and actively.
This means that any time you connect with your muscles to move them, you are simultaneously physico-consciously connected to their conscious experience, which is just to say that you know what your muscles consciously feel like when you contract them.
This is how you consciously learn to control your body; at first you don’t know how to control your limbs and you just experiment by sending random conscious impulses to them, resulting in the random, uncoordinated movements of newborn babies.
After some time experimenting in this way, since the baby has conscious sensation of her muscular movement, she learns how it feels to move her arm in one direction compared to another, and before very long she has learnt how to move her limbs in any direction she wants.
You experience a similar conscious experience any time you learn some new physical skill.
Your physico conscious Self, or physico-conscious Soul, is a large and very complex quantum molecule that has taken millions of years of evolution to achieve Its current level of complexity.
Your physico-conscious Soul has the ability to consciously choose some of Its future states and actions, like an electron can consciously choose between aligning spin-up and spin-down.
However, you are a vastly more complex formation of conscious Energy than an electron, and as such you can choose from proportionally more states and actions to choose from, hop, skip, dance, cry etc..
Of these different states that you can choose to instantiate, some of them are such that the effect on your surrounding brain is that a signal is sent to your muscles to move your hand in particular directions.
Thus, you know how you have to consciously feel, or how you have to consciously “will” within yourself, depending on how exactly you want your hand to move.
The more experimentation you do the more refined your movements become, and this can continue long into adulthood if our baby grows up to become a ballet dancer, for example.
All of this experimentation is pre-verbal and non-verbal; it can be achieved long before the baby has learnt any language, indeed, it is regularly achieved by every other animal species on the planet without any possibility of language whatsoever.
Similarly, you can move your body without any verbal activity; your inner voice can be totally silent while you walk or dance, for example, indeed, this silencing of your inner voice can improve your performance of such activities.
This is why you can't really verbally explain what the difference is between when you move your left hand or your right; you just intuitively, non-verbally, know how you need to consciously feel within yourself to bring about specific desired movements.
But, of course, humans specialise in multitasking, so, if you want to, you can also enjoy a conversation with someone, or with yourself, at the same time as walking or dancing.

Sol Asteroid Belt Ceres Sentinel Fleet S.S. Dark Maw Bridge
Ensign Briggs
Briggs keyed in his access code to the Command Center of the Bridge and sighed as his code was rejected. The next two subsequent attempts proved to be folly. He stared up at the ceiling and cursed silently to himself. Lt. Commander Carson must have been in a fun mood. Briggs steeled himself for the conversation ahead, held his mop in his right hand, took a deep breath, and then rapped on the door with his knuckles. The sounds of two voices echoed against the bulkhead, followed by the approach of footsteps on the deck. The door opened with a soft woosh. Lt. Commander Carson glared down at Briggs.
"Command Center is for Senior Officers only... ensign. Aft airlock needs a good scrub. Why don't you go make yourself useful?"
Briggs held eyecontact with the imposing man who was Carson for a solid second, maybe two, before looking down at the deck and replied,
"Captain Campbell sent me. All the non-essential crew members are in the mess celebrating his final flight, and he," Briggs sighed, again, "he didn't want to send good personnel to clean up the mess his pet Ferret made."
A laugh was heard coming from Lt. Ciernak, as she could obviously hear the exchange. She was sitting in the Command Chair, which all crew knew was specifically reserved for only the lead officer on duty. Briggs had had his suspicions that the two were an item, and this essentially confirmed it. Well, that and the fact that the top two buttons to her blouse were unbuttoned. Briggs shifted his weight uncomfortably as Carson continued his gaze. Suddenly, Carson raised his finger at Briggs and, with a mocking grin, broke the silence.
"You know what shit-bag? Cap's party is scheduled to last another hour. Ciernak and I are going to step out and 'stretch our legs'. Keep an eye on things in here while we're out. And please, try not to jettison anymore of our airsupply again, k champ?"
"Aye, sir." replied a thoroughly defeated Briggs.
Carson quickly escorted Ciernak out of the Command Center, giving Briggs a wink on the way out. Then Briggs was alone. Alone in the Command Center of one of the most shit-your-pants-powerful Warships humans had ever produced. And Briggs was here to clean up Ferret vomit. Captain Campbell's favorite lifeform was almost always attached to him, except when it slept, ate, relieved itself, and, of course, threw up on the deck. A small, nearly dry puddle of vomit lay beside the Command Chair. Briggs acted out what he wished he had said to Carson as he swabbed up the mess. He also threw in a few half-hearted jabs to his imaginary foe in between mop strokes. One of those jabs caused Briggs to lose hold of his mop, and it dropped, striking a control console behind him. The console awoke and began offering prompts all across the screen. Briggs quickly went to grab the mop handle but slipped on the slick floor and lost his balance, crashing onto the console.
As he stood back up, the sound of a ping was heard. Faint, at first, but steadily picking up intensity and volume. A glance above the pinging screen told him very little as he was a very new ship's maintenance technician. It read "Gravitational Analysis," which, to him, might as well have been written in Farci. Fear seized control of his muscles as he frantically attempted to tap prompts and adjust dials in order to quell the noise. An alarm began ringing out, emanating from the command chair.
"Shit, shit, shit!"
Not again. His current duties as a disgraced sanitation tech had almost been too much for Briggs to handle after mistakenly venting half the ship's air supply into space a few weeks ago. This time, Captain Campbell might just send him out the airlock himself.
Multiple consoles suddenly began coming to life, each adding their own melody to the growing orchestra of mayhem, each pushing Briggs further into terror. Finally, he'd had enough. He rushed to the door in an attempt to enlist help, keyed in his access code, and laughed a solid belly laugh, as it was denied.
This was it. It was over. His entire life, he'd just wanted to be a part of something great. He had known early on that he'd never be a Carson. He'd never be the kick ass and take names type of guy. But he was okay with that, as long as he could say that he was there, and he had done something. Anything. But he had only screwed it all up.
Briggs sat in the Command Chair and surveyed the Command Center. The once serene and boring brain of the ship was now buzzing with energy. A small ring, reminiscent of an angelic halo lit up above him and a firm feminine voice spoke to him through the chair,
"Ship systems Interface activated."
The halo dropped onto Briggs' head, and for a moment, everything went blinding white. Then, as quickly as it had come, the light subsided to reveal a 360-degree full field view surrounding the ship. He scanned his head around to see what had happened to find that he could see the surrounding Asteroid field local to Ceres, and a look down showed the S.S. Dark Maw itself as if he were sitting on top of it. A gasp escaped his mouth at the sheer fucking awesomeness of what he was experiencing. He'd been an avid sim-gamer as a child, and this was right up his alley. His hands were suddenly aware of twin joysticks popping up from the chair arms. Briggs could hardly contain his grin. The feminine voice spoke again.
"Gravitational anomaly detected in sector 10."
As if on cue, an indicator popped up and surrounded a section of space ahead of them that seemed to be, off. Dust and small rocks were being drawn into a single point and collecting into a small but quickly expanding ring of particles.
"Nope! Not getting near that!" Briggs exclaimed. He tapped the right joystick to the left, and to his surprise, the ship strafed left. Hard. Proximity alarms began ringing in his ears as the ship nearly plowed into several hunks of ice and rock. A particularly large rock, several times the mass of the S.S. Dark Maw now sat between it and the anomaly.
The ship's comm signaled, and the voice of Captain Campbell rang through.
"Carson! Report. What the Fuck is happening?"
Briggs was at a loss.
"Uhh, hi Cap, sir. This isn't Carson. It's Briggs. Ensign Briggs, sir. I'm uh, filling in for Carson, sir. There's, um, an anomaly and i uhh... Im so sorry, sir. I was cleaning like you said, and i dropped the mop, and then there were these noises, and I sat in the chair..."
Campbell interrupted Briggs,
"Ensign. I want you to listen very closely. You have just taken control of an Earth-Fleet Warship, without authorization. I can now, under Earth-Fleet Naval Law, legally use your fucking corpse as a hull ornament! Now get your sing-song ass into the brig, fucking now, or I'll be forced to use your atoms as ejection mass for my return flight home!"
The small ring of dust and rock chose the exact moment Campbell finished his reprimand to massively expand into a much larger ring, about a kilometer wide. Almost immediately after the transformation, a bright light began shining through the ring and the outline of a long, sleek and terrifyingly advanced looking starship began advancing through.
"Fuuuuuck this!" shouted Briggs as he slammed his fists into the arm rests of the Command Chair and pushed the halo back up away from his head. Unbeknownst to Briggs, three missiles shot out of their respective turrets in three different directions, one of which was directly in front of the S.S. Dark Maw, into the large rock before them. Briggs grabbed his mop, finished cleaning the vomit, and waited patiently by the door, awaiting his eventual escort to the brig.
Captain Campbell, Lt. Commander Carson, Lt. Ciernak and two security officers all filed through the door of the Command Center to see Briggs staring at them. Behind him on the view screen, the broken pieces of the Asteroid Briggs had attacked were pelting the unwelcome guests with great prejudice. Silent explosions rocked the alien vessel before it had even fully exited its warp ring. One particular rock had angled in such a way that it had actually passed through the ring and was wreaking havoc on ships that hadn't even yet entered sol space.
Briggs glared at the bewildered group and shouted, "I cleaned the fucking mess! Now take me to the brig!"

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). Adam leaned his head against the bars.
His stomach growled horribly and his head ached. It was almost like having a really bad hangover, except without the memories of having fun or doing stupid shit the night before. Instead, he was suspended in a cage high in the air, watching as the ugly ass Prodigum galumphed around the room preparing it for his next 'guests'.
He would have used a more normal word to describe how the creature moved, except for this thing was nasty, like Jaba the Hutt level ugly. Sort of made him feel like Han Solo, though he supposed that was supposed to make Sunny princess Leia. The only problem is they didn't have a Luke Skywalker or an R2D2 to come and rescue them.
He sighed as his stomach groaned.
He glanced over at the other cages, making a face at the bleached white skeleton which hung in one, and at the two humans sitting in the other.
They looked horrific.
His stomach growled again.
"Don't worry."
His cage neighbor said,
”You get used to it after a while."
"What?”
"The hunger.”
"Do they not feed you?"
The other human shook their head,
"No, that's how it works here. They put us in these cages and then use us for entertainment while we slowly starve to death, and then, once we are dead, they feed on our decomposing corpses."
The commander made a face,
"Shit, that is really, really disgusting."
She shrugged,
"You don't seem so worried."
He held up his hands,
"I can start crying if that would make you more convinced, but otherwise I don't see much use in freaking out."
"I suppose that is a good way to do things. Who knows, the clients might actually like you, and they might bother to feed you longer."
"How do you make the clients like you?"
She waved a hand,
"Ignore what the Prodigum said, they know a good singer when they hear one."
She patted her throat,
"That's why I'm not going to last long."
"Tone def?"
"No, I'm actually a voice coach, but due to extenuating circumstances, I'm not supposed to be singing for my own health."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
He groaned and leaned back against the cage,
"I'm gone in that case."
She leaned up against the cage,
"Why, you tone def too?"
"Not hardly. I can carry a tune, but I'm not a solo act. I'm sort of just average."
"For fear of sounding too much like a voice coach. Most people are only average because they weren't trained to be good. It's all about breath control, then anyone can be pretty good."
"Well then I'll just have to-"
He was cut off in that moment as the lights over his head began to flash. He looked towards the door and watched as the doors were thrown open. The Prodigum opened his huge, ugly arms wide as his guests entered the room.
Adam stood inside his cage to get a better look, displeased when he watched more of the Prodigum, Burg and a couple of Tesraki coming in. He thought he even saw an Iotin or two somewhere in there, or was that a Gromm? They filtered into the room as the 'slaves' were dragged onto the floor.
He pressed up against the bars as he saw Sunny being dragged onto the floor.
Both sets of her hands, her feet and her neck had all been chained together. She could barely move, though she was still being forced to carry a tray of drinks.
"Welcome my friends, welcome please come in, we have something new for you today and-"
His voice was mostly drowned out by the intervening voices.
He tried leaning closer to hear, and was only able to tell what was going on when the Prodigum turned towards him and held out a hand,
"Behold, the long reaching arm of my empire."
There was a sudden muttering around the room as so many impressed clients recognized Adam.
He made a point of flipping them all the bird and spitting out the bars towards one of the Burg, who leaped away with a hiss. He laughed,
"And there's more where that came from assholes."
The Prodigum gurgled in amusement, the little breathing tubes on the side of its neck opening and closing with a wet sort of slapping noise. The commander grimaced,
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, commander.”
He motioned with one hand towards Sunny, and at that moment he watched as a group of others moved forward, grabbing her by the chains and throwing her to the floor.
She choked against the chain around her neck.
"SUNNY!"
"This really is simple, commander. Behave or she dies. These are the rules. You sing, and when we want the song changed, we will throw something at you. Don't do what we want and your friend here gets it."
He grinned, his floppy bulbous cheeks dangling down towards the ground, as the little face tentacles wriggled about in the air,
"Now, get to work."
He glanced over at Sunny, his first instinct to tell the guy to screw off, but when he looked over at Sunny, and saw her pinned against the ground. Well, he knew he couldn't do anything. He licked his dry lips and took a deep breath.
Perhaps his first song shouldn't have been an adlipped ditty that began with the line.
”Suck a dick.”
Sung with great gusto and feeling, and definitely shouldn't have been followed up with the line.
”You big ugly cock sucker.”
He was stopped a moment later when some random object was launched at his head.
He fell back against the cage, suddenly alerted by Sunny's cries of pain.
He turned over to see the Prodigum pressing his hand spike into her back.
He grimaced,
"Alright, alright! Stop, just let me think of a song ok?”
Off in the other cage, the two other humans were chuckling to themselves,
"Nice On that last line. I really enjoyed the use of vibrato, you know especially on the cocksucker part. Try to get a deeper breath next time though"
"You gonna teach me to sing before we all die?”
The crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back against the bars,
"I'm going to try and keep you alive for as long as I can. For your sake and for your friend down there. I am also hoping, that since you are the commander, you have some sort of panic transponder on you, and that helping you will help me survive long enough to get out of here."
"Fair."
"Hurry up human! I don't have all day!”
Close to panic he began to sing the only thing he could think of in the moment.
The ABC song.
Yeah, sure it wasn't one of his greatest moments, but he was under pressure.
That didn't go over so well, and he had to duck out of the way as a can came soaring up towards his head.
The party was almost in full swing now.
At a time like this, he had to go back to his roots. When he was a kid, his mother had always been a fan of music from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He had carried her love onto his adult life, so that's all he could think of on such short notice.
He went for a little Journey to start off with though he knew he wasn't nearly good enough to do any of the songs justice.
Unfortunately he did not have a nine octave range to work with.

You know how they say, don’t stop believing!
He honestly couldn't help throwing in a few songs with lines like:
“I hate everything about you”, assuming that the context would be enough that he wouldn't get something chucked at his head, but apparently he wasn't fooling anyone.
Across from him, the Vocal coach was leaning against her bars, prompting him with comments when she could be heard over the conversation from below.

They were somewhere in between Sweet Dreams and Boulevard of Broken Dreams when his voice began to falter. The coach insisted that he needed to breathe better to last longer.
But he was so tired.
His voice was beginning to crack and he was growing light headed.
Below him on the floor he caught eyes with Sunny who was being dragged behind the Prodigum.

He was dying. Did he even remember what songs were? He was pretty sure he didn't even listen to some of these, but songs he heard when he was a kid were mostly sustaining him. Most of the songs he knew he wouldn't be able to pull off.

He was ninety percent sure if any of these long dead artists could hear him singing from rock n' roll heaven whey were getting to rock and roll him straight into hell for his egregious sins.
The sound of Silence.
He broke into a coughing fit.
Something hit him through the bars and he tried to control his breathing, as he choked back into life.
What now?
Disney songs?
Um hold on? Which ones?
He was going to die here, singing Let It Go in the voice impression of a dying toad, and that would be his legacy.
Heaven or hell, whichever, it was going to be awkward.
He barely noticed when the doors were opened again and people began to trickle out. He only noticed when the vocal coach yelled his name, and he looked up from his state of misery finally allowed to break into a horrendous coughing fit.
"That was pretty good for someone who doesn't sing, but I think we can work on your breathing and your technique, otherwise you are going to destroy yourself. Plus, if you keep singing rock songs we are going to have to teach you how to use distortion properly."
He groaned, falling onto his side one hand clutched onto one of the bars as the cage gently swayed back and forth.
Beneath him, Sunny looked up with an expression of worry, though she was dragged away and out of the room before he could do or say anything.
He held his hand out, but she vanished out the door.
This was a really shit day.
Krill had been right when he had complained that the commander needed a panic button.
Honestly, he hadn't thought he would be kidnapped again, but it turns out he was pretty wrong about that.
He wondered where the rest of the crew was, and what they were thinking.
Where did they assume he and Sunny had gone.
Did they even know something was off?
He was so thirsty.
He was definitely expecting to die here.
Because he had no good plans this time.
"You know why they like humans singing so much right?"
He groggily turned his head to the side where the vocal coach was sitting, her hands clasped in her lap before her.
He shook his head.
"It can affect the emotion of the Prodigum. I know it sounds weird, but I have been watching. The better the singing is, the better it works. Happy songs make them happy, angry songs piss them off etc. etc. Even more so than humans."
"And?"
She shrugged,
"I don't know, just an interesting thought…"
He rested his head back on the cage floor.
Sure, being a siren was kind of cool, but being a siren in a cage very much was not cool.

Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

How can I have my account deleted and all the data related to it including the domain, after Twitter has suspended it and also decide to pretend I can't control my information my content my data. They have suspended my account without any reference to any rule broken with a practical example of what that account has done.
There are several questions that raise. Who is behind Twitter, just automated censorship system and should I file a report to Authorities to make clear that there is a Human Rights violation if not multiple ones after what they did?
-Suspension without any justification (they need to show what was broken and how!) otherwise I can too switch something off forever just becuase I don't like it.
-Removal of user rights over their own personal content, of which Twitter becomes propietary after suspension: this is pure madness and break of GDPR and human rights.

I am yanked from my sleep. I hear my heart beating in my ears. It stabs at my chest trying to break out. My eyes dart around like sharks in a feeding frenzy. Fear. The shadows claw at me. Beckoning me to follow them into the darkness. The windows are portals to an undiscovered world my eyes are drawn in. I can't take them away from the darkness but the fear of seeing something locks them in. A metal cage nails my body to the mattress and I'm frozen. What is happening? The bitter taste of saliva fills my throat like talons clawing their way out of me. The ragged breathing crushes my lungs. I'm starved of oxygen. The air is thick, and it feels as if I am swimming in glue. Unable to reach the surface, plastered into place. My hands, drenched in sweat grip the sheets. Flashes of what was glaze over my eyes. Shaking. My feet touch the carpet. sandpaper compared to my bed. I can see them, they are here. They watch over me waiting on my every move. The frigid air licks my ankles like a bloodthirsty hound. Will it bite? The blood leaves my feet as its hand moves towards me. The paranoia slithers up my spine to dig its fangs into my neck. like ice dumped down my shirt I jolt and push my legs to stand. I am concrete. A statue put there to show strength but crumbling inside. My legs, a solid base. but to me are made of twigs ready to snap at any moment. The dark grabs me and pulls me in. Its love is toxic. One minute it protects me and embraces me in its homely arms. But the next it pushes me around bruising and cutting my cold flesh. Help me. I reach out to the door handle. Its shiny silver handgrip stands out against the dull haze of night. Glinting at me. The cold metal stings my hand. I pull down and the door creaks open with a screech. It startles the silence, leaving a ringing in the room. My arm, numbed by sleep slowly starts to release the hot air of night out into the hallway as it drags open the door. A silver of light tiptoes across my face like the moon is welcoming me outside. And finally, I am safe.

Things that (imo) you sometimes have to luck into learning, because sometimes Tide games are so pressurized that most of your time is spent just trying to stay alive using basics, and not so much trying different mechanics. A lot of these tips have to do with action economy, and using the map.

1. If you're trying to cross some jagged terrain or obstacles where your character might otherwise get stuck, just walk up to the first sticking point, then press and hold spacebar and you should basically parkour over everything. Also hold spacebar to vault. Somebody in chat was raging about the jump and when I asked they said they were just tapping spacebar. P.O.P Hold It Down.
2. On the subject of terrain - use it to block more damage! Almost every piece of terrain that's big enough to hide your body can be interpreted like: "When standing behind this barrier, gain 100% damage immunity to all damage sources in a 180 degree arc opposite the barrier"... In short - walls and barriers are actually OP. When you enter a room, you should scan for enemy types, barrels, barriers/chokepoints, then chests.
3. On barrels - know where they are, because blowing a red barrel at the right time, and denying an angle to that group of shooters can be the diff between winning or losing an objective. Please also think of barrels as an expendable ability that your character can use. Explosive barrels perform very well against slow moving crushers, and fire barrels are super potent area denial for lower health enemies, because they last forever.
4. Most of us know that you can dodge & jump while reloading, but you should know that there are actually lots of things you can do while reloading like operate medicae, open chests, and even VAULT over terrain. this last one is especially useful, as it can allow you to reload safely in the thick of combat. Don't be afraid to cheese the enemy pathing a bit. The AI is trying to cheese you too.
5. Try and default to using your melee weapon for a while, and becoming a trench-core hardboy - this goes for psykers and vets as well. Once you're more comfortable with that, then get comfy with fluid weapon/ability/grenade swapping in combat, and feel the tiers of fun unlock.
6. By now everybody should know the door cheese for when you're deep in a damnation run and you really don't wanna lose all that plasteel. Basically - you can simply close doors on hordes and it spaces them out so you may comfortably weed whack them at your own pace.
7. Please block. I have scoreboard installed, and while this is not a flame, it is a plea for people to start using their block button and push attack more often. You can also do a push attack while carrying power cells and contagion samples.
8. The Auspex thing can actually scan a source of plague residue from a good distance away, so if you already know what the source is going to be, you don't have to walk right on top of it. It can also scan through walls iirc.
9. Throwing a frag or stun grenade into a horde, or hitting them with a powermaul or some such staggering tomfoolery, makes the horde more dangerous as it spreads out their angle of attack. If you nade them in a choke, you're setting up a critical density issue, because the naded poxwalkers will get up, having taken almost 0 damage, and re-join the fresh poxers bearing down on you. Save nades and heavy stagger for rager packs and enemy ogryns almost exclusively, and just take out your melee for the horde. Note for ogryns with nade box feat - IT STILL DOESNT DO A TON OF DAMAGE... You stagger the entire room, which is really cool, but then please mop up with actual damage. Don't throw the second box, tempting as it may be, becaue you're gtting a very diminished return.
10. You can do a cute 360 during a slide.
11. (Bonus tip for the real sweats) - Leave no stone unturned. Never die with a grenade. Never give up on timing a dodge, or a block. If you're the only one left alive with a Chaos Spawn, well brother, you better lace up them boots and get to steppin. Play your class to its fullest potential.

TLDR - Use all mechanics - don't leave advantages/buffs on the table.

I feel like I'm whining as I'm very lucky. I have 3 'kids', 15, 16, and 18, who think the world of me. The youngest is a bunch of work with life struggles, but they all love me to bits. I also have a wonderful family and a few close friends who I can call on, a well-paid stable job and my own house. Im healthy, active and still "young". I am super lucky in life and really should not complain. I'm just sad and lonely too often.
Their mum quit being involved in them (despises the youngest) many years ago and I've tried love with another person who pulled the pin last year (after 5 years) because she struggled with the special needs side of the youngest (and COVID sucked for both of their mental health). Being a FT dad to 3 teens (plus work and life responsibilities for 4 people) is very tiring.
I wish I was content with being by myself, but I really, really love to love and to be loved. I'm scared of trying again and dont think its the right thing to do, especially while I'll only have these teens a few more years. How can I change these feelings and embrace time alone instead of rushing to fill the void?

Warm Vision
Chapter 1
Out of the mountain of hope, I’d be a stone of despair. Well, that doesn’t particularly make me unique, as they’re always multiple stones of despair in a positive environment.
But I am what you’d call a damsel in the wrong address. Well, perhaps that’s not the most accurate use of that proverb but in my case it’s most definitely true.
I alone am capable of seeing the unseen and I’m pretty certain that they’re not my delusions. Although, I’m not a cent percent sure about that, but the endless rambling of mysterious silhouettes with their limbs in various angles that my brain can’t even begin to imagine, can’t be fake. I call them VISION, short for vile indigenous and seriously ill obstinate neighbors. (By the way I used the word ‘indigenous’ and ‘obstinate’ because they’re always stuck where they die).
VISIONs are right there, but no one tends to see them. No one wants to see them. And why the hell not? They’re not something anyone would like to indulge with. But they aren’t undesirable like me, especially from my classmates’ point of view.
Although VISIONs themselves don’t directly pose any problems, their existence made my parents think I’m acting strange. So, they end up either sending me to a shrink or forcing me to exorcise myself in a shrine.
My classmates distanced themselves from me, as a mark of merit for a gloomy and delusional character like me. Which is exactly why I ended up becoming friendless despite having received 14.5 years of education, or that’s what I’d have loved to say but I’ve an unusual friend.
Her personality is even beyond my comprehension of the 7 wonders of the world. Even her name ‘Pilo’ doesn’t make any sense or maybe it does! She’s a kind of person who always gets slept on(literally), maybe it’s her comfy appearance which made her parents name something like that. But in a sense, she’s anti-me, an anti-Rei i.e., a complete opposite of me.
A phlegmatic and optimistic individual unlike me, yet something pulls us together. A magnetic force, like the saying goes ‘Opposites attract.’
But Pilo isn’t my only friend I’ve got, there’s someone, or rather, something else. And it’s none other than basketball, a game or even a concept! A friend who’s a bit difficult to communicate with, but it's always there to help me through difficult times. It’s a real friend, honest and true-hearted, never betraying me when I need it the most.
Communicating with it is to become one with it, and to become one is to eliminate every possible distraction which I’m very good at...
Who am I kidding? I’m literally the most distracted person in existence, but those distractions are important for me to continue living or should I say ‘were’ important?
Just a few days ago, when I turned 16, I was completely shaken off from my VISIONs. They disappeared completely and I was left with a sense of unprecedented and unbearable loneliness. It was a matter-of-fact that I was scared of them but I didn’t expect them to suddenly vanish completely from my life?
Their existence was crucial but not in the proper sense. They made me feel special, as if I alone possessed the qualification to look at them. Their eerie eyes always seemed to look through me. I couldn’t deceive them and they couldn’t deceive me either. They became my butter and bread, without which my daily life would truly become ordinary.
Anyways, I’ve already abandoned such feelings and I’m ready to participate in the interschool basketball finals which is right in front of me(literally).
I take a deep breath and stride onto the colosseum of athletes —the basketball court where both the teams were already done warming up for the battle royale. I take small, brusque steps which was due to the overflowing nervousness caused by the millions if not hundreds of spectators.
And guess what? I fall! I crash the ground with a dynamite sound which made the people around to burst with laughter. Not just my opponents but even my teammates let out a laugh or two, how funny!
But I don’t let that get me. I stood up immediately and brushed myself as if nothing wrong had happened.
Rather than the referee’s whistle, our school had a tradition of starting competitions with the bell’s ringing, which in my opinion, was very idiotic. At exactly 13:06 hours, a loud noise announces the beginning of this very enthusiastic competition!
An odd time to start, but it didn’t really matter.
The match starts without any other hitches. Although my clumsiness was as clear as glass, I was positioned at the center as usual for my skills and towering height of 190cm which were too precious to be kept in a corner.
My teamwork is horrendous but I make it up with my own skills, though in a game of basketball there’s no place for a prideful girl. I had to work, work with my teammates and somehow, I managed passing the ball at crucial times where I fell behind.
No matter what happened, I’d have to maintain the teamwork, and if I don’t, the team will fall apart like a bunch of dominos. It’d be impossible for me alone to stich the cloth named team.
Though even after our attempt to entertain the spectators and win no-matter-what, we didn’t actually get anywhere. The score was 0-0 even after 3 quarters, it was an evenly balanced match.
Despite me being worn out and my performance gradually declining, I was still performing better than the others. It was at this moment I witnessed something both ridiculous and impossible.
A boy stood outside of the court. Of course, my eyes weren’t deceiving me. I was really seeing a boy outside of an all-girls high school. This was like a once-in-a-decade thing, super unbelievable. But what made it even more unusual was him. He was a VISION, something which I thought had vanished for bad.
He looked at me as though he had seen a ghost, which is quite contrary to his existence. His eyes looked colder than the ranging Antarctic storms and his pale skin was as white as a silver plate with no dining. Without a doubt he belonged to the horror culture despite him not possessing a shred of death.
There was also a sense of curiosity in his eyes.
As I was deeply drowned within my self-explanation of him, I hit the ball which was followed by a dialogue saying “Rei, catch!” from one of my teammates. Light sure does travel faster than sound.
The ball collided my nose, leaving me dazed and hapless amidst an event which could have been one of the greatest days of my life.

PART 1 - The King's Problem
The King did not know empathy.
If he saw somebody in pain, he felt nothing. If he watched a child cry, he felt nothing. And if he saw an injured bird on the road, he would press the sole of his boot on top of it without a second thought.
This was just as he governs.
The people lacked food, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the food he would ever need.
The people lacked medicine, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the medicine he would ever need.
The people lacked education, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the books and scholars he would ever need.
In his palace built entirely of solid gold, he was the most powerful King in all the land.
But the King had a problem. One thorn in his side. One little nuisance that kept him awake at night.
From nowhere, a man had appeared. His name: Rohe
Rohe spoke atop a platform in the streets to the people. He spoke of the unjust nature of The King's rule, of the palace made of solid gold and the endless luxuries stored within it.
Rohe blamed the King for the hunger the people had suffered. And he blamed the King for the deaths of brothers, sisters, children, mothers and fathers due to the lack of medicine.
And finally, Rohe told the people to rise up against the King, storm the palace of solid gold and take back control of their food, their medicine and their land.
Worst of all, to the King's terror, the people had begun to support Rohe. In the streets, Rohe would draw thousands of supporters. "Freedom for the people" they would chant in unison.
The King was utterly furious. How dare these low-born peasants chant such things. How dare these stupid, ignorant and inferior men even consider stealing his rightfully owned riches.
Something had to be done.
Not knowing what to do, he spoke to his 3 most trusted advisors.
The first advisor suggested he have Rohe killed.
The second advisor suggested he have Rohe thrown in jail.
The third advisor, the most cunning and mischievous of the 3, disapproved of the plans of the first 2 advisors. Killing him or throwing him in jail, he explained, would encourage the crowds still further.
Instead, he suggested something different entirely. He suggested they turn the people against Rohe.
"How?" asked the King curiously. "How can we turn the people against him"?
The third advisor adjusted the large, rounded glasses that lay on top his big, crooked nose and grew a mischievous smile. "The newspapers, of course."

PART 2 - The Third Advisor
The lands had hundreds of different newspapers, but only 3 main ones, which were by far the most widely read.
The people believed these newspapers to be run by well-meaning people who aimed to tell them honestly of the goings-on throughout the world.
The truth was different.
While it was made to appear that these newspaper were run independently, they were in fact controlled by the King himself. Whenever the King needed, he control everything that was written inside one of the 3 main newspapers.
The Kong granted the cunning third advisor the task of turning the people against Rohe. And so, the third advisor began his research:
To his dismay, Rohe was close to perfect. A true hero.
- He had a loving wife and two young children
- He had grown up poor and had managed to create a little bit of wealth through hard work on his farm.
- He was strong, with big, bulging muscles and had a handsome face.
- On his farm worked 10 white men and 2 black men, all of whom he treated with great kindness and respect.
- He was rarely at home with his family. He was always working, helping at the local school or in the streets doing his speeches.
Upon finishing his research, a crooked smile crept upon the face of the third advisor. He adjusted his spectacles and muttered to himself.
"This is all I need..."

PART 3 - The Article
Rohe — The People's Hero Or Attention Seeking Conspiracy Theorist?
Rising from an obscure background, Rohe the so-called "Hero" has ballooned in popularity in recent months. Everywhere he goes, commotion follows; drawing crowds of thousands of worshipping fans who hang on every word he says.
He has been reported bellowing his ideology in Lockwood, Brimshore, Farmsdale and even as far as Watershire. It seems as though Rohe is a mastermind at drawing the attention of others. Where does this attention go? Well, to himself of course. With his handsome dark hair and muscular physique, public image is seemingly the fuel that Mr Rohe feeds on. '
"He's come from God! He's like God himself!" exclaimed one of his fanatic supporters as we interviewed them.
Mr Rohe's main message seems to be against the King himself; spouting obscure claims such as "The King is keeping all the food for himself while the people starve!", he cried into a crowd in Lockwood last week. Of course, this isn't a new line of thought, with other such violent figures as "John the Terrorist" and the now proven liar and fraud Christopher Whittle.
Experts tend to agree that the food hardship some are currently facing is due to a series of unfortunately poor harvests as well as changing whether conditions. We asked the lead food resource advisor in the kingdom for his opinion on the matter. "We've heard this all before" he said while holding back a laugh, "Mr Rohe is just parroting the same old conspiracy theories we hear every year".
While Mr Rohe screams non-stop of the riches of others, his own wealth has been quietly building. Donations from his fanatic supporters have allowed him to purchase a second piece of farmland on top his already wealthy estate. Unsurprisingly, his workforce consists of almost entirely white men with a mere handful of coloured workers throughout his farms.
We travelled to Mr Rohe's farm and spoke with his wife, who told us "We as almost never see him! He's constantly on the road. He pops by to see the kids and check on the farm every week or so". It seems as though it's difficult to pay close attention to your family when you're so busy drawing attention to yourself in the streets.
Mr Rohe's fans seem to admire him deeply, but such adoration can turn nasty. His most extreme supporters have abused, harassed and on one occasion physically assaulted Mr Rohe's critics. "His fans are relentless", says well-known critic Johnathon Adams. "The harass me day and night and have even threatened to attack me.
While Mr Rohe does not endorse such violent behaviour, he does not exactly deter it either. He describes the King as "evil" and "corrupt" and once stated that "sometimes the power of the fist is necessary".
Mr Rohe's rhetoric seems to attract all kinds of unsavory characters; the aforementioned "Jack the Terrorist" as well as well-known woman beater Joseph Smith have both stated their support for Mr Rohe.
In the end, the key to Mr Rohe's appeal is also his greatest weakness. He wants to be the man who knows everything and can explain everything. But his arguments are riddled with conspiracy theories and crude distortions of the truth.
Even so, his critics will have a tough time. Mr Rohe's wave of popularity is unlikely to come crashing down any time soon.

PART 4
A year had passed, and over the months the third advisor wrote countless similar articles and published them in the 3 main newspapers.
To his and the King's delight, their plan had worked flawlessly.
Support for Mr Rohe began to wane. Many began to accuse Mr Rohe as being a racist. Others claimed he was mistreating his wife. Most began to be see Mr Rohe as somebody not to be taken seriously.
The people started feeling a sense of distrust and dislike towards Mr Rohe deep in their stomachs. They didn't know exactly why they felt this way, but felt it they did.
Something had switched inside their minds. They began to see everything Mr Rohe did through a negative lens. His previously heroic speeches now seemed shrill and childish. His impressive physique and sharp jaw now seemed vain and self-centred. And his claims about The King and what was really inside his palace made of solid gold now had doubt cast upon them. Some still believed Mr Rohe, some thought him to be exaggerating, most simply threw their hands up in confusion and forgot all about it.
When Mr Rohe made a speech on the streets, many rolled their eyes at his crazy supporters. And with growing frequency, an opposing group of protesters would appear and shout over him. They made claims that Mr Rohe was a racist, and they made jokes about the 2 farms Mr Rohe owned.
The King's problem had been solved.
The third advisor became one of the King's closest confidantes and was allowed access to many of the luxuries inside the palace: food, women and anything else he could possibly dream of.
As for the people, their lives steadily got worse and worse. Their food supplies dwindled, medicine became rare to find and the people became sadder, more depressed and more desperate. Despite this, most accepted their situation as "the way life is", while others blamed God for their misfortune.
One day, another man began to make speeches on the streets against the King. His name: Varios. The People began to call him their "Savior".
The King passed his pen over to the third advisor. "Ready?"
The third advisor grew a wicked grin.
"Of course"

I (15) and my sister (14) have a decent relationship that usually revolves around humor. Its usually funny comments, making fun of each other, or making fun of our actions, but she recently found humor in poking my spine and neck, which as siblings, I'm sure you've had it done before (similar to the credit or debit thing from a few years back) but I find it absolutely terrifying because I never know what she'll do next.
I don't get scared easily and I've visited some of the most haunted places in my state and watched horror movies alone,hell I could write a book.
My family is very religious mainly because there's been incidents where some of my family members have been in near death situations and have seen the devil. I strongly believe in God because I, for one, wouldn't say I am a good person. I used to believe I was, but I looked into my faith more and people have told me that the situations I've been are for the reason of a price I have to pay for something bad I've done that I probably can't remember. My family has had strong ties with faith ever since my great great and so on ancestors, as each women who is expecting a child is given the option of money for their infant child, one of which my grandmother did accept.
Growing up my family of 7 lived in a one bedroom basement where there had previously been a fire, and my first time seeing anything was when I was 6 with my brother. A few years later was the day I began to experiment with things of such which is where I think I went wrong. I've never made a deal but I've been involved in cases where exorcisms are necessary and I'm in the presence of it.
Going back on point, my sister has faith that isn't necessary strong, similar to mine, and that's okay because that's her own account and shes free to believe what she wants. Shes always lurking around and poking my back or neck and it's ok... until it's not. She makes terrifying inhuman faces and start jumping around or dancing screaming inaudible things. To me, it looks somewhat like a playful ritual until she starts to chase me. Various times I'm sitting in a corner crying and telling her in scared, but when I'm scared I laugh a lot to the point I'm out of breath so she thinks I'm playing too, but I feel like in dying. I've talked to her and my mom about it but they find it ridiculous because they know what I've been through and see no reason how this is scarier than that.
Today was my worst of it all, I'm not sure if I'm getting panick attacks because of it but I can barely stand near her before my anxiety kicks in and it gets really hard to breath when I see her. She started to jump around again and that's when I lost it and started to laugh/cry a lot but my mom told me to go to sleep and thst it was nothing. I tried to explain to her thst I'm genuinely terrified but she brushed me off and told me to not be such a kid, "it's just a game." It's 5 in the morning and I still haven't gotten any sleep because I'm scared that she'll burst in my room any second. AITA?

My friend and I met ten years ago in high school. She was always incredibly bright while I did the absolute bare minimum to get by, but we became partners in crime.
After high school, my friend decided to stop taking her contraception because she had baby fever and wanted a baby (without her then partners consent). She fell pregnant quickly, dropped out of college, and fell out of love with her then partnebaby daddy. While I lived locally, I was really supportive of my friend, and tried to help out as best I can with my goddaughter (physically and financially).
Eventually, I moved away for university and rarely came home to visit so I seen less and less of my friend and goddaughter. My friend held this against me advising my goddaughter wouldn’t recognise me.
I unexpectedly fell pregnant after my contraception and morning after failed, and had an abortion. My friend was really supportive during this period of my life but without my consent, she told her mum what I was going through. I naturally distanced myself from her because I felt betrayed.
She recently started dating a guy that I used to text and meet up with. Long story short, she fell pregnant with his child almost instantly into their relationship and decided to have an abortion. Once again, I distanced myself as I was not in a position to be there for her. She was asking very invasive and emotionally triggering questions about my own recent experience. She called me out on this and said she felt like she was becoming a burden in my life.
Now, here is where I am at my widths ends; she met her now boyfriend on April 27th, the night of my birthday dinner, where she completely abandoned me to kiss him (and was aware we used to text and meet up because we awkwardly spoke that night about it). Since then they’ve fell pregnant and aborted, became boyfriend and girlfriend, professed their love for each other, and she has even introduced her daughter to him. They had a party for her with her parents and he bought her a rather big present and I wasn’t invited to this at all as the child’s godmother.
I really don’t want to be in my friends life but have pity on my goddaughter. What’s your opinion on this?

The Dutch independent investigative journalism platform 'Follow the Money' wrote a article about Patagonia.
"Sustainable clothing brand Patagonia manufactures in the same factories as fast-fashion; textile workers are being exploited"
Clothing brand Patagonia seems to be doing everything right: for its employees, for the people who make the clothes and for the environment. The company’s image – they say they’re in business to save our home planet – is very different from fast-fashion brands like asos, Primark and Nike. But Patagonia’s clothes are manufactured in exactly the same factories and under the same deplorable conditions.
When Yvon Chouinard started creating climbing equipment in his parents’ backyard in Burbank, California, he used steel. Soon he earned a reputation for making the ‘best’ climbing equipment in America. But every time a climber slammed one of those steel pegs into a rock, the gap got a little bigger and eventually unusable. Chouinard realised he was making money by destroying the rocks and therefore also the sport. And so he switched to aluminium blocks, which did not damagethe rocks.
The change was expensive and risky for the young company, but the moral dilemma was reason enough for Chouinard to implement the change. And to be very outspoken about it. It was a success: within a year, 40 per cent of the US climbing community stopped using steel.
Chouinard applied this experience when he started the outdoor brand Patagonia in 1973. He wanted to make only high-quality clothing that would last. And limit the impact on the environment as much as possible. In 1996, the brand switched to 100 per cent organic cotton, only to increasingly replace it with recycled materials. But the responsibility that Chouinard attributed to the company extended further.
In 2002 he decided to give one per cent of sales to environmental organisations every year. In 2011, Patagonia placed a full-page ad in the New York Times calling on consumers to ‘not buy this jacket’ in order to draw attention to the problematic nature of overconsumption in the clothing industry.
In addition, the clothing had to be manufactured fairly: in 2012, the top of the company made paying living wages to everyone who makes Patagonia products a ‘priority’. In 2020, Patagonia launched a campaign encouraging consumers to demand more from clothing brands: ‘Demand recycled. Demand organic. Demand Fair Trade,’ Patagonia urged its viewers.
In 2022, the then 84-year-old Chouinard caused worldwide astonishment, when he gave away 98 per cent of his shares to a newly formed NGO, the Holdfast Collective, which is ‘committed in its fight against the environmental crisis and protecting nature.’ Henceforth, the company’s profits would no longer flow to himself or his children but to the climate. ‘Earth is now our only shareholder,’ Chouinard said. Billionaire gives company away to climate, newspapers like The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian reported*.*
This construction saved the NGO an estimated 700 million dollars that Chouinard would have had to pay in tax if he had sold the company and donated the proceeds to the same NGO. But according to Chouinard, this option allowed him to do something else: protect Patagonia’s values. Because he did not give the voting shares to Holdfast Collective but to a family trust. This allows his family to continue determining the company’s direction.
The company’s turnover – its European headquarters are in Amsterdam − grew by more than 50 per cent that year to about 1.5 billion dollars.
The actions earned Patagonia an image as being the ultimate sustainable frontrunner. In April, Time Magazine named Chouinard one of the world’s 100 most influential people. ‘Patagonia is a company people look up to in awe,’ the magazine wrote.
The complete opposite of Patagonia is a company like Primark. The Irish retail chain is known for selling on-trend low-quality clothes at low prices. Its revenue model is based on mass: high volumes with low margins.
Primark continuously creates new garment collections designed to be worn only a few times, after which they fall apart. The company uses advertising, clearance sales and influencers to urge consumers to keep buying as much as possible.
Media regularly report on the subsequent consequences. One, in particular, is that the people who make the clothes suffer from high production pressure at low cost. ‘Primark supplier accused of locking up factory workers in Myanmar protests,’ The Guardian headline read in 2021. That same year, The Clean Clothes Campaign NGO wrote: ‘Primark uses pandemic to put further pressure on factory workers in manufacturing countries.’
Patagonia and Primark seem like two extremes on the slow versus fast-fashion spectrum. Yet the brands have something in common. Some of their clothing is manufactured in the exact same factory.
PATAGONIA IN AMSTERDAM In 2014, Patagonia moved its European headquarters from Annecy town in the French Alps to Amsterdam. Reflecting on this, current CEO Ryan Gellert told the city marketing website I Amsterdam: ‘We established headquarters here in 2014 because we wanted a place where we could attract and retain pan-European and global talent, [...] and where there was an active community working on sustainability issues. As we searched potential locations across Europe, Amsterdam remained high on our list.’
According to Tax Law Professor Jan van de Streek, tax benefits may also have played a role in the choice of the Netherlands. This is because Patagonia did not register in the Netherlands as a BV but as a cooperative with two US members: Patagonia International Inc and Patagonia Global LLC. ‘Why choose something as strange as a cooperative structure?’ Van de Streek remarks to Follow the Money. ‘Because it is exempt from dividend tax. I think it’s naive to think there’s any other reason for that.’
Responding to questions about this, Patagonia said: ‘Since its inception, Patagonia Europe Coöperatief has paid regular corporate income taxes in all European countries where we do business, including the Netherlands, and has never used the tax efficiencies of a cooperative.’
‘At the suggestion of our advisors', Patagonia chose a cooperative structure ‘because it's the most flexible type of entity that suited our business purpose. However, Patagonia has chosen not to pursue any of the tax advantages available under the cooperative entity type. Patagonia Europe has not paid dividends to its parent company.'

‘No difference’

That factory is called Regal Image and is located in Sri Lanka. To be precise, in the Free Trade Zone of Katunayake, less than two kilometres from the international airport. The industrial estate is guarded 24/7 by Sri Lankan police. Access is only possible with a special pass.
In the factory hall, there are long tables with pieces of white fabric on them. An employee walks past with sea-green paint and a stencil forming the letters ‘asics’. Further along, a machine prints a grey logo on a purple tank top for Decathlon.
‘So far, we don’t really notice any difference between working with Patagonia and working with Primark or Decathlon,’ says Kevin Fernando. Fernando is the manager at the factory, which dyes, prints or embroiders logos and prints on fabrics. Regal Image was recently approved as a supplier to Patagonia, a process that took nine months. Fernando shows the designs for the 2024 summer collection. Light blue fabric features ‘Patagonia’ in pink letters, and a rainbow is printed on orange fabric.
‘Like most clothing companies, we do not make our products, nor do we own any of the factories that do,’ Patagonia writes on its website about the decision to outsource the manufacturing process. ‘We design, test, market and sell Patagonia gear. These are our areas of strength. We pay other companies [...] to produce fabrics and do the actual cutting and sewing.’

‘No control over working conditions’

Patagonia promises to only partner with factories that are ‘like-minded’ and who share their ‘philosophy.’ Patagonia has found sixty-one suitable factories: two in the US, one in Portugal and the remainder in 12 different low-wage countries. The bulk of the products are made in Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
At least two-thirds of the factories that manufacture Patagonia clothing also work for clothing brands that, according to the consumer website Good on You, have little or no sustainability policies in place (Patagonia itself is touted by Good on You as sustainable). This is evident from an analysis by Follow the Money based on data from Open Supply Hub, which aims to make supply chains in the clothing industry more transparent.
One day people make clothing for Patagonia, and the next day, they make items for brands such as GAP, Levi Strauss, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Amer Sports, Asics, US department store chain Target, e-commerce platform Amazon, supermarket Aldi and fast-fashion icons ASOS, Boohoo, H&M and Zara.
‘How is this possible?’ visual culture professor Anneke Smelik responds. Smelik researches sustainable fashion at Radboud University. ‘I know Patagonia as the most sustainable brand out there. I expected them to manufacture in small factories close to home. This means they have absolutely no control over working conditions.’
PATAGONIA IN SRI LANKA Patagonia works with 14 factories in Sri Lanka that are part of (or partner with) two companies: MAS Holdings and the Hirdaramani Group.
MAS Holdings was founded in 1987 by three brothers: Mahesh, Ajay and Sharad Amalean. The company began manufacturing lingerie and later expanded to sportswear, swimwear and T-shirts. With factories in 17 countries and roughly 2.4 billion dollars in turnover by 2022, MAS is Sri Lanka’s largest clothing manufacturer. The Amalean brothers are among the wealthiest men in the country.
The company emphatically presents itself as a sustainable clothing manufacturer. For instance, the company promises to emit 25 per cent less CO2 by 2025 than in 2019, and CEO Suren Fernando expects the group to earn half its revenue from sustainable products by then.
In May 2023, MAS received a Presidential Environment Award from President Ranil Wickremesinghe for the company’s commitment to the environment. The company describes the welfare of its employees as ‘its top priority’. On the subject of paying a living wage, the company makes no promises.
In the early 1900s, Parmanand Hirdaramani, then 16 years old, started a clothing shop in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo. Today, his great-grandson Aroon Hirdaramani runs the Hirdaramani Group, which has grown into an international clothing conglomerate with factories in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Vietnam and a turnover of around 900 million US dollars.
Hirdaramani also presents itself as a sustainable producer. The company’s website states: ‘At Hirdaramani, we do the right thing. We have always done that. It’s about making good decisions today that benefit everyone in the long run.’
Since 2019, all Hirdaramani factories in Sri Lanka have been producing climate neutrally. For 2025, the company has set several targets on material use, water use, waste and leadership. Paying a living or higher wage is not a target.
In 2016, Aroon Hirdaramani and his wife Mona surfaced in the Pandora Papers. It emerged that Hirdaramani owned two investment companies in the British Virgin Islands. The reason for this is unclear. The fact is that companies based there do not have to pay tax on income, profits, dividends and interest, among other things.

Sixteen-hour workdays

Eligibility to manufacture Patagonia products requires a supplier to meet a list of sustainability criteria. Those criteria are set out in a code of conduct for suppliers. For example, child labour, forced labour, or physical, sexual or verbal harassment are not allowed. All national laws must be respected. Suppliers must respect workers’ right to freedom of association, may not force workers to work overtime and must ensure healthy working conditions. Working weeks of more than 60 hours or more than six days in a row is not acceptable to Patagonia.
Patagonia checks whether a factory complies with these standards through independent auditor visits at least once a year, says the brand after being questioned by Follow the Money. Checks are also carried out by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) and FairTrade: two NGOs that provide Patagonia’s manufacturing process and clothing with a sustainability label.
A part of those audits is public. Since 2016, the FLA has publishedassessments of seven Patagonia factories, including three in Vietnam, three in Sri Lanka and one in China. During those inspections, auditors found dozens of violations, varying greatly in severity.
For instance, almost 2000 employees at a factory in Vietnam were paid less for their overtime than what they should have received and employees’ ages were not recorded (thus child labour cannot be ruled out). Another check found out that applicants had to provide their menstrual date. Employees told the interviewers they were not allowed to become pregnant in the first six months of their employment. Less serious violations dealt with issues such as working without protective equipment, blocked emergency exits, or a lack of policies on harassment or discrimination.
One problem crops up in every report. Textile workers in factories manufacturing clothes for Patagonia work far longer hours than legally permitted: up to 17 hours a day and more than 80 hours a week, well beyond what is permissible according to Patagonia’s code of conduct.
‘Long working hours with insufficient breaks often lead to health problems,’ the Clean Clothes Campaign recently wrote about this issue. ‘Managers pressure employees to work 10- to 12-hour and sometimes even 16- to 18-hour days. The number of hours increases as the deadline approaches. Those who protest are simply fired. Moreover, workers depend on overtime to supplement their low wages.’
At the Regal Image factory in Sri Lanka, manager Fernando assures that his employees work a maximum of five days a week and 10 hours a day. But during the tour, a line manager starts talking about the duration of his shift: from eight in the morning to a quarter to 10 in the evening – almost 14 hours. ‘It’s busy,’ says Fernando, casually.
‘This is what the fast-fashion model does,’ says Smelik. ‘Brands want their products to be in store within a few weeks. So when a factory receives an order from such a brand, the production targets and overtime skyrocket.’

‘They talk to us like we are animals’

The office of Stand Up Lanka, a union led by Ashila Niroshine Dandeniya, is located just outside the Free-Trade Zone. She started working in a MAS factory, part of MAS Holdings that is a supplier to Patagonia, in 2003. Her colleagues elected her to represent them as a member of the factory’s employees council. But when she addressed the matter of wages, she was fired. She challenged her dismissal, got compensation, and discovered that there were laws in place to protect people like her.
Now, almost 20 years later, she knows Sri Lankan labour law like the back of her hand. Her office is a hexagon with five windows, all open. Textile workers from nearby factories approach her via these windows to greet her or ask for help.
When a transman walks past, she says, ‘He applied to MAS Shadowline [one of Patagonia’s suppliers, ed] a month ago. They said they didn’t want him because he is transgender. He can’t get work anywhere. And he cannot go back to his village because he is Muslim. His family will shoot him.’
When about six women wearing yellow MAS polos come and ask for a food parcel, Dandeniya shakes her head. ‘We don’t have enough. Since the country’s economic crisis, some families barely eat two meals a day. How am I supposed to choose who can eat and who can’t?’
That evening, she introduces Priya (31). Priya has been working for MAS Shadowline for almost two years, sewing the side seams on leggings or T-shirts. She makes many clothes for yoga brand Lululemon and for Lacoste (famous through the crocodile logo), but sometimes also for Patagonia.
‘The worst part is the scolding,’ she says in her home a few streets away: a room of about 12 square metres. It contains a double bed, a small kitchenette and a wardrobe. Despite the fan on the wall, it is sweltering hot inside. She shares a toilet and a shower with others.
‘My supervisor’s manager is a terrible man. He touches everyone in a bad way, and if you say you don’t want that, you have a problem. He yells at me if I have to go to the bank or the doctor. “Then who will do the work? Who will meet the target?” And he’s not the only one. They talk to us like we are animals.’
When asked about her production targets, she breathes a deep sigh. ‘The other day, Lululemon placed a huge order, and now everyone is stressed. On the first day, we had to make seventy items per hour, but on the second day, it was suddenly a hundred. Otherwise, we won’t make the delivery date.’ During the working day, she does not drink water so that she does not waste time going to the toilet. Despite this, she seldom meets the target. And that means: no bonus.
Without that bonus, Priya earns 32,000 rupees a month (97 euros). Her room costs 7,000 rupees (21 euros), and a meal 300 rupees (1 euro). She has no money left for other things.
‘Since the crisis, we are increasingly hearing stories from our members of textile workers using drugs,’ says Dandeniya. ‘Also in MAS factories that Patagonia works with. They use it to work faster. Sometimes also against the hunger.’
Chamila Thushari, union leader of Dabindu Collective, confirms the story. ‘They use Ice (Crystal Meth) or Babul.’ She points to her collar and to the sole of her shoe. ‘This is how they smuggle it in. The management knows this happens but allows it. All they care about is production targets are being met.’
An employee of a third union, GTZ-GSEU, confirms that drug use among textile workers in the Free Trade Zone is a problem.
Patagonia says these claims are ‘new’ to them and ‘serious’, but says, without evidence, it cannot comment.

A living wage

That Patagonia, known for being sustainable, has its clothes manufactured in the same factories as other much less sustainable brands is seen as an advantage by the company. ‘Patagonia has a powerful brand voice, but we are a quite small player in the apparel sector. Therefore, we are always looking for ways to scale our impact and to elevate the industry standards across the board, bringing other apparel retailers along on the journey with us. So, continuing to engage in shared production facilities is crucial to this work.’

That is, enough for food, water, housing, education, healthcare, transport and other essential needs.
With 18 months to go, only 40 per cent of its factories pay a living wage, according to Patagonia. They would not reveal the factories concerned. Suppliers reportedly ‘have the right to maintain their factories’ wage data confidential’.

To determine a living wage, Patagonia uses the Anker Research Institute’s calculation method. According to that method, you can live decently in urban Sri Lanka if you earn a minimum of 83,231 Sri Lankan rupees (263 euro) a month. Priya’s salary does not even cover half that. And at the recently approved Regal Image print factory, the basic wage is even lower: 21,000 rupees (66 euro), says Fernando.
Thulsi Narayanasamy is frustrated by Patagonia’s approach to sustainability. She is director of advocacy at the Worker Rights Consortium, an independent non-profit organization that monitors and investigates labor conditions in the global apparel and textile industry. ‘Patagonia spends millions on green initiatives. Why can’t they pay the people who make their clothes properly?’
Patagonia says it ‘has no authority over how much textile workers get paid, as they are in no way, shape or form the employer of these workers.’ Narayanasamy, however, is convinced Patagonia can pay a living wage, if the brand would want to. ‘They could bring production in-house or pay more to suppliers that’s ringfenced for wages high enough to achieve a living income. It’s so well established that brand’s pricing practices directly impact wage levels, it’s a fallacy to deny this.’
‘I think we should ask ourselves: why don't clothing brands have their own factories?’ She asks the question, then answers it. 'Brands don't want to be responsible for the people who produce their clothes. All brands benefit from that, including Patagonia.
RESPONSE FROM PATAGONIA When asked why it does not pay its suppliers more for decent wages for workers, Patagonia replied: ‘Relying on one brand to simply cover the gap is a band-aid solution and does not serve the factory in the long run. If the one brand that pays the gap were to leave the factory, then those wages for workers would go away, leaving the factory with a shortfall they would not be able to cover. Additionally, if the brand just writes a check to the factory, then there is no guarantee that the money would go towards workers’ wages. The brand has no authority over how much workers get paid as they are in no way, shape or form the employer of those workers.’
About the long working hours, Patagonia says: ‘Excessive overtime is pervasive globally, which is why it is audited regularly. If we find a problem that can be resolved, we work with our factory partners to implement sustainable solutions. This can take many years, but we find this is the best outcome for the workers and the factory.’
In response to the allegations about drug use among textile workers, Patagonia says: ‘These are serious and new allegations, however without evidence, we are not able to comment on them. We are continuing to conduct our ongoing monitoring program and we remain committed to addressing systemic issues to ensure workers’ wellbeing across our supply chain.’
