MY GRAND AMTRAK OVERHAUL PLAN
First things first, my plan calls for Amtrak to be nationalized, this will basically further government funding into the company, and if things really come to worse, they won't at least have to beg congress to throw money at them each year. This will basically give them an elevated status, against freight companies, but they probably wouldn't listen anyway, so I suggest two things...

1. The Alan Fischer Plan, which is nationalization! Again!
2. The government buys most of the track from freight companies, making them have to lease it from Amtrak and the gov.

AMTRAK REGIONAL AND SHUTTLE SERVICESFor Amtrak Shuttle Services, they will be nothing glamorous, but sort of be like the existing Valley Flyer, or Amtrak Hartford Line service, but operate on a regional Rail style frequency (give or take, every 15-30 minutes).Also, it would feature much more modern equipment.
As for Amtrak Regional Services, I plan to rebrand them as Intercity Express Services, not to be confused with SNCF Intercités, or DB ICE.These trains will go under the Initial ICX, and will feature a total of 63 routes, and will run at a frequency of 5-18 round trips a day, depending on the route. These trains will either be hauled by an EMU, or be Local hauled either by an Electric or Diesel Loco. These trains will get a better dining service, as frankly, I find current Amtrak food either totally meh and overpriced, or disgusting and overpriced. (looking at you angus burger.)Anyways, the trains will either feature all Coach, or feature Coach and Biz.Depending on the train, they will also feature babistro cars and business areas.All trains in this plan will have Bike Storage. Some context.This plan is the America hsr "China strategy" basically serving most of the eastern USA (and a bit or western) with high speed rail and mixing in a bit of "Germany" into it and by that I mean that not every single line is gonna be replaced with a HS counterpart and that lines like the NEC, the Empire Corridor and the Missouri River Runner Corridor will be upgraded and be uses by Acela and Mainline Rail alike.There are lots of high speed lines and stations with (A) are only served by Acela.Coach will be introduced onto Acela and be the lowest tier. Biz will have a more elevated status, and First will be competitive with AA's Flagship First product, or JetBlue's Mint product.Not only that, but for more budget oriented travelers, my plan calls for a budget variant of the Acela, sort of like Avlo and Ouigo.Some trains will run into Canada, but it will mostly be served by VIA and their own services.
Examples of this plan include some radical but barrier braking changes like
- Express and Local Acelas.
- Acela making the journey from NY to Chicago in 9 and a half hours, avg. speed of 103 MPH and total length of 979.7 Mi
- A competitive and luxurious first class, a decent coach and biz class.
- A transition from inedible foods to the good 'ol days of actual good food, cooked and served to you, and not pre-packaged.
- Low cost variant of the Acela, with tickets starting at $29 between NY-CHI. But everything else costs money, and it would turn into like the Spirit Airlines and Frontier of the rails.
I know this sounds "too good to be true"And first off this is a proposal, and second, countries like Italy, Japan and China offer similar experiences on their HSR Trains and I know my proposal is a bit extreme, but seriously, if we spend money on the things we currently spend, and divert it to rail instead of that we could totally pull this off and might make a "profit".
