Our guy is hooked after his first Formula E race weekend in Hyderabad

My love for motorsports began when I first saw Michael Schumacher’s scarlet red Ferrari on TV. It was annihilating everybody that came in its way, and I still vividly remember how the V10 engine’s howling sound made me feel as the Ferrari flew by. Fast forward to the present, nearly a week before Formula E made its debut in India on the streets of Hyderabad, Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc refreshed every Ferrari fan’s memories as he took the wheel of Michael’s precious scarlet red Ferrari from the 2003 season. The V10’s visceral sound is still echoing in my head as Charles lit up the Abu Dhabi race circuit in the F2003-GA. I’ve had a spell cast on my mind as a result of watching that video an unhealthy number of times.

Call it good or bad, but times have changed, and we’re moving towards a world where motorsports is evolving at an alarming rate. Formula E is in its ninth season. The Gen3 cars this season are a massive improvement over the Gen2 cars from last year, for instance. They’re lighter, smaller, efficient, and can achieve a top speed of 322 kph. Currently, these are the fastest electric cars in the world. If I am being honest, I’ve never wholeheartedly followed Formula E; it was always an odd race or two every season. I was never interested in the electric whine of these cars until I saw them race in Hyderabad. Yes, you had to be present to see it. The sheer excitement, the wheel-to-wheel racing drama, and the brilliant drivers all contributing to the sport’s allure.

It was all thanks to the Mahindra Racing team, who graciously hosted us at the ePrix, and the days leading up to the race weekend were quite the spectacle. As a motorsports fan, I was ecstatic to attend our country’s official FIA race event. After all, it had been nearly a decade since such an event had occurred at this level. This was also my first time attending an official FIA Formula E race weekend, from the Free Practice sessions to the final Race. I had to keep my excitement in check as I prepared for the long weekend of racing as both a fan and a motoring journalist. No pressure, then.

Welcome Home!
Mahindra Racing hosted a grand party in Tech Mahindra’s sprawling campus in the run up to the home race. I was excited to see the sharp-looking Gen3 cars and find out what all the fuss was about. Mahindra Racing’s Gen2 race car sat like a relic in one corner of the floor, next to a racing simulator. While the majority of the guests were drinking at the bar or sampling various appetisers, I went straight into the sim seat to experience Mahindra Racing’s M9Electro on the Diriyah Street Circuit. These race cars are no joke, and even driving them on a racing simulator for 45 minutes can feel like you’ve run 10 kilometres. Imagine driving them in real life on tight street circuits.

We saw Mahindra Racing’s M9Electro with its three drivers for the season — Jehan Daruvala, Oliver Rowland, and Lucas di Grassi — at the unveiling. Jehan joins Oliver and Lucas as a Reserve Driver. They’ve been doing an excellent job, and the pace has been promising this season. Mahindra Racing’s best result came in the first round of the Mexico City ePrix, when Lucas qualified first and finished in a hard-fought third place. Nonetheless, the first three rounds taught the team a lot as they prepared for their first Home Race weekend. It was time to put the best foot forward on home soil.

Sweating It Out
After nearly waiting for half an hour in the long queue to get my media accreditation pass, I went straight to the pitlane to get a sneak peek inside the team’s garages. Most race circuits have all of the garages in one line along the start/finish line. However, because the pitlane in the Hyderabad Street Circuit is curved, some garages start from turn 17 onwards, while the rest are on the start/finish straight — fascinating. In the Nissan pits, the mechanics practised changing the front wing on the e-4ORCE 04 race car. Oh, and they’re really quick, because they did everything in less than 5 seconds. As expected, the Mahindra Racing garage was busier than the Jaguar TCS Racing Team garage. Officially, it was also the Jaguar team’s home race weekend.

I’d just been strolling up and down the pitlane for about one hour, and the heat was already getting to me, and I wondered how these drivers manage in such conditions. During the Jaguar press conference, Sam Bird mentioned wearing a trash bag over his hoodie while working out, which prevents your body’s cooling circuit from working, causing more sweat and preventing your body temperature from dropping. That’s the level at which these athletes are willing to work, and I haven’t even mentioned the psychological side. Hearing that gave me just enough motivation to explore the Street Circuit on that scorching day, since I needed to scout a few locations for Kaizad to shoot the race from.

Walk and Talk
I had decided to cover the race from the media centre, because I had walked for more than 10 kilometres the day before. Kaizad was as thrilled as ever about doing some cardio with his camera equipment. This was also his first FIA event, and he wanted to make the most of it — by the way, many thanks to Nissan for hosting Kaizad at the ePrix. Now, not everyone was given access to the Grid start; only a few photographers from the media centre were randomly chosen for it. As it turns out, this was Kaizad’s lucky day as he was one of them. As for me, I was patiently waiting in the media centre for the race to begin.

When like-minded people who are passionate about racing come together to watch a race, there is never a dull moment. When one of the home team’s drivers overtook or gained a place, I could hear cheers from one area of the media centre. There was also a lot of swearing and nail-biting. It was a thrill to see everyone celebrate the drivers who stood on the podium at the end of the race. Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Penske) drove a terrific race to hold off Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing), who had a massive battery advantage but couldn’t capitalise on it owing to the safety cars.

The fact that the electric whine from these race cars sounded like my vacuum cleaner was no longer bothering me. All that mattered was how these drivers maintained their composure on dusty tarmac with poor grip levels, while putting on a wonderful performance for motorsports enthusiasts. This is, at the end of the day, what we all want to see. Hardcore racing. I’m shocked that it only took one race weekend for me to become a Formula E follower.

2015 Focus SE Radio issues
So I'm in the process of installing a new radio, everything is wired and connected correctly, the only problem is that the radio won't turn on. As in the picture, that is all I get when I turn the car on. None of the buttons on the old stock part work to control it and all it will do is tell me there is no phone connected. I replaced the fuse and disconnected and reconnected the battery with nothing happening. I really have no idea what is wrong so any help would be appreciated.

2023.06.09 23:21 Puuha-Sebi Article about the game in the biggest newspaper in Finland (English ChatGPT translation included)

There’s an article released about the game a couple of hours ago focusing on mostly the same things that we have already learnt. One takeaway is that the History Channel’s Vikings actor Peter Franzén will make his video game debut in the game probably in in-game Ahma Beer commercials. The article also raises the point about Remedy using the Finnish culture as a differentiating factor in their games. It also has a couple of interviews of Ilkka Villi for one and Molly Maloney for the other.
HS Article - Note: This is behind a paywall.
Ps. There might be a spoiler about the beginning of the game or a misinderstanding from the author of the article. Not sure which one it is and what they’ve actually seen, so this is tagged in the translation.
Translation:
”The camera angle descends straight down from the sky. Two cars have stopped amidst the glow of golden and rust-orange emitting forest. Saga Anderson, an FBI agent, emerges from one of the cars. She has arrived in the nearby small town to investigate a peculiar murder. Inside the deceased person, a page of a script has been found.
Saga separates from her colleague and ventures into the darkening wilderness. Soon, reality gradually molds into something strange and terrifying. The dreamlike forest occasionally takes on the hues of a bustling city, and the swollen face of a body flashes on the screen.
She is attacked, dodging and shooting, but pointing the flashlight at the horrifying, humanoid assailants feels equally effective.
After surviving the ordeal, Saga finds herself by the shore of a lake. In the sand lies a scruffy, trembling man wearing a worn-out jacket. When asked, he stammers his name:
Alan Wake.
Alan Wake?
Saga is astonished. "You've been missing for 13 years!"
The lights come on. The Espoo-based game studio Remedy has unveiled for the first time what the highly anticipated Alan Wake II looks like when played.
"This is Remedy's biggest and most ambitious game, the largest Finnish entertainment product ever," says Sami Järvi, the creative director and screenwriter of Alan Wake II.
The budget is not discussed, but the game has been in development for years and serves as a sequel to the action-adventure game Alan Wake, which was released in 2010 and remastered two years ago. Now, the genre shifts to a more intense one: survival horror. Perhaps the genre reflects the production itself, as the game has lingered in the twilight for 13 years, much like its protagonist.
"Sometimes things just don't fall into place, even if you put your heart into it. These are massive productions that consist of many elements," says Järvi.
Over the years, Remedy created several prototypes for the sequel before the project gained momentum. Now, Remedy owns the publishing rights, and the new installment is being funded by the American gaming giant, Epic Games, known for the Fortnite online game.
While sequels, remasters, and reboots abound these days, Sami Järvi does not feel overwhelmed. He finds his creativity flourishes within the framework of a sequel, much like 20 years ago with Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.
"Sequels are often regarded from an artistic perspective as forced, but as a screenwriter, I think differently. When the melodies are familiar, I feel it's fantastic to delve deeper into everything," Järvi says.
According to Järvi, the bar for narrative-driven single-player games has risen significantly in recent years. He believes that Remedy's grand, cinematic experience will meet expectations.
The significance of Alan Wake in gaming history lies in how it integrated a complex story into the gameplay, focusing on a struggling writer and his battle with creativity. What made it particularly intriguing was its exploration of mental health.
Since then, the topic has been prominent in several games, and according to Järvi, there is now a deeper immersion into psychology to enhance the gaming experience.
Principal narrative designer Molly Maloney considers the balance of storytelling crucial in Alan Wake II. It should neither be too much nor too little.
"The story should feel like a reward for progress," says Maloney.
"I want Alan Wake II to leave parts of the story and its meanings open to interpretation, captivating players for a long time."
In a departure from its predecessor, ALAN WAKE II introduces two playable characters. As the game progresses to a certain point, players can freely switch between Saga Anderson and Alan Wake during their respective scenes.
Additionally, parts of the game take place within a mental state, where the narrative is pieced together.
"In addition, there's a difference in how combat is approached," Maloney says. "There are fewer fights, and players will feel a sense of survival rather than simply overcoming waves of enemies as in the previous game."
Actor Ilkka Villi has patiently awaited the opportunity to return to his "favorite character." "The filming days have been really enjoyable. Remedy provides guidance for the character, but I also get to put a lot of myself into it. Over the years, I have received fantastic feedback from the audience," Villi says.
While the industry has progressed immensely over the past 13 years, it hasn't changed Villi's approach to character development. "Perhaps what I know now is that everything I do translates flawlessly onto the screen," Villi concludes.
Remedy's technical prowess is evident in their attention to detail, such as precise facial animations and the expressive portrayal of a forest swaying in strong winds. The dense and turbulent terrain brings the dark beauty of the environment to life.
One of the underlying ideas behind the game revolves around the concept of being lost in the woods and the forest's mysterious shroud, drawing inspiration from old Finnish folklore and beliefs. Remedy has one more surprise in store.
Actor Peter Franzén makes his video game debut in Alan Wake II, and in a dual role no less. Franzén portrays Ilmo and Jaakko Koskela, a pair of brothers residing in a Finnish-American community nearby. They create commercials for Ahma beer on local television, and a humorous clip is seen featuring sauna, fishing, and casual drinking.
Remedy has always pushed to incorporate Finland's unique culture into their games. Describing this, Sami Järvi's eyes light up. "Now, we want to truly make an impact. I can say that something new and bold is on the horizon."
That's precisely where the strength of Alan Wake II lies as it aims for international success. Finnishness is a valuable asset, not something to be ashamed of. In an industry where competition is fierce, it's crucial to stand out. When genuine and respectful treatment of Finnish culture is combined with Remedy's extensive experience and expertise, the passion project that is Alan Wake II has the potential to reach great heights.

2023.06.09 23:12 September0451 Clutch Slave Cylinder replace, '86 9000. Removing Gearbox giving me an aneurysm.

I've been at this for 2 days and haven't removed a single bolt from the bell housing. There are guys on YT who say they've been doing this and I've seen so many pictures of the gearbox removed to swap the slave cylinder, but despite having the repair manuals.. this job is like a fractal. the more i do the more what's left becomes a bigger list. Does anybody have tips on how to actually remove the transmission? People talk about it like it's easy.
I've already:
- Removed the battery / carriage and Fuel Filter (let it hang there like in the manual)
- Removed the air cleaner box and intake hose
- Removed the turbo intake pipe between the intercooler and the throttle body
- Removed the Left side front wheel
- Removed about a dozen bolts from the sub frame
I feel like I can see dozens more to remove, but all with nuts on the other end that are practically in accessible.
I don't have an "engine lifting beam" and I have never even heard of such a thing. Why do I need to lift the engine if I'm dropping the transmission out the bottom of the car?
I'm warned not to let the pinion drop into the gearbox when I remove the speedometer cable (which I don't know where it is and now I"m terrified of trying to remove it because I don't know what a pinion looks like. But guaranteed on a speedometer cable it's small.)
I'm supposed to separate the selector rod in half, which I finally just SAW for the first time, but I have no idea where the "clip on the dust cover on the intermediate drive shaft" that I'm supposed to remove. or what an Intermediate drive shaft is....
What is a Steady bar? And where is this mythical thing that is attached to the intake manifold, and why do I have to remove it? (i'm guessing to access both bolts on the starter?)
and WHY did the Trolls in Trollhattan decide to use such a vast assortment of Imperial and metric fasteners all over the place?
This is seriously breaking me. I just want the damn gearbox out so I can swap the slave cylinder.
Does anybody know of a video or a guide with pictures I can actually see (not grainy black and white) to figure out how to do this?

2023.06.09 23:03 codyxxo Failed 3 classes, many red flags, but still got the A

I’m not good at posting on social media, but I remember reading a story like this 5 years ago that gave me hope to keep pursuing my dream and I want to pay it forward.
Applicant profile
10 MD secondaries submitted. 0 II
13 DO secondaries submitted. 1 II -> WL -> A ……at an OOS school with the highest average gpa of all the DO schools I applied to (>3.7, one of the “Big 5” DO schools)
Surprisingly, I wasn’t immediately screened out by any of the schools pre-secondary. Secondaries were submitted from mid-July through October. I tried to submit the MD ones sooner than the DOs. The secondary for my only A was sent around late July or early August IIRC. I received an II at the end of February and got off the waitlist in May.

So here’s my story

My first F was in gen Chem 1 because it was my first semester in college and I was immature and lacked self-discipline. I also got a C in intro to bio that semester. I later retook these classes and got As in both, and I got almost all As in the next 2 semesters. My spring sophomore and fall junior semesters were when things fell apart. I won’t get into the details but a mix of physical+mental health issues and unfortunate events in my social life made me lose focus, resulting in Fs in bio III and a university required rhetoric class, as well as Cs in orgo I & II. Then I was put on academic probation and “separated” from my university for 2 semesters.
At this point I was pretty devastated and started to consider switching career paths because I didn’t even know if it was still possible to get into any medical school with my grades. I ended my 3rd year with a 2.96 cumulative gpa - a number forever ingrained into my head. Even if I got all As the rest of the way and stayed a 5th year, my gpa would only be a 3.4, which would still make it very hard to get in. But I realized in my time off that nothing will be nearly as fulfilling to me as practicing medicine. I also knew that my grades in the past year were not indicative of my true abilities, I was just in a difficult situation. So I addressed all the issues that held me back in the past, and even started counseling as I prepared to start my premed track again.
Also, this was around the time when I started to focus on becoming a better person as a whole. Not that I ever had a history of doing anything seriously immoral, but having the time to finally be alone with no distractions granted me opportunity to be more introspective and think about the ideal person I wanted to be, rather than the person others wanted me to be. I remember browsing through a Reddit post some years ago asking suicidal people what quotes keep them going, and one reply that hit me hard was “one day someone’s going to need you, and you better be there for them”. Over time, I realized that the most important quality of my "ideal self", among others, is that I should always be available when people need me, and to put the needs of others above my own. I think this perspective I developed back then helped keep me motivated and focused on my path to become a physician, and still does to this day.
One of my biggest improvements after coming back was my work ethic. I came to terms with the fact that I simply am not as intellectually gifted as most of my peers. If they studied 6 hours for an exam, I would need to study 25 hours for a similar grade, and if that’s what it takes then so be it. If I were to be a doctor, my patients aren’t going to feel bad for me because I’m slow; what really matters are the results. With redemption on my mind I loaded my schedule for the next 2 years with rigorous medicine related classes such as immunology, dev bio, genetics, biochem, anatomy, etc. (I also retook the classes I failed and did well). I went to every lecture, every supplemental session, and spent almost every day of the school year studying at the library from ~5pm - 2am, and 11am - 2am on weekends. There were times when I didn’t take a day off for several weeks. One year during finals, I wouldn’t sleep more than 2hrs a night for the entire week because I studied so much. I also changed my studying methods to rely less on brute force memorization, and more on attaining a deep understanding of concepts. Luckily it all paid off. Disclaimer: I would NOT recommend this work schedule for anyone. I just hated myself at the time, threw away my social life, and am strangely good at working while sleep deprived and hungry. Please take care of yourself.

Noteworthy parts of my application

When applying to medical schools I used my past failures as a testament of my persistence and resilience. It’s not like I could’ve hid my hideous grades anyway so might as well try to turn it into a strength. It ended up becoming a talking point in all my 1:1 interviews too. Some were impressed with my growth, although 1 still seemed a little concerned.
Another strength of my application was conveying how much I love working in healthcare through my experience as a PCT. The job is already hard enough having to take care of patients with dementia, C. Diff, incontinence, terminal cancer, COVID, diabetic ulcers, GI bleeds, hip/knee fractures, violent psych disorders, patients that are rude and non-compliant, etc. But I worked through the pandemic which was a complete shit show for months on end. The patient: nurse/PCT ratios were so ridiculous that it was honestly unsafe working conditions at times. Lots of people were quitting too which made things even harder. But this heavy workload, stress, and chaotic environment motivated me even more to show up everyday. I always thought to myself “at least I’m here. I can’t image how bad it would for the nurses and patients be if there were no PCTs”, and that if someone had to suffer in this position, I’m really glad it was me and not someone else. Looking back, however, I think my PS sounded too “woe is me” and when preparing for a re-app I was planning on scrapping that one completely for a more optimistic one.
I do regret not talking more about research in my PS and secondaries, however, as that was by far the EC that I spent the most time in, it’s something I’m kind of passionate about, and I probably understand it better than most applicants. Perhaps I would have gotten more interest from research-heavy MD schools if I did.
I never explained the cause of my poor grades that year, I only cited “personal issues” which in retrospect probably hurt my application. With this wording, it’s easy to assume the worst, like having a drug addiction or debilitating mental health issues, which was not the case. I should have said “I had distractions and lost focus”.

Advice for future applicants

If you dug yourself a hole as deep as I did, your first and foremost priority is to take care of your mental and physical health, which is more important than your gpa. Taking time off from school to fix yourself and recalibrate is a much better option than maintaining your downward trajectory and risking even worse health and grades.
Secondly, be very careful about continuing premed. I took a huge risk by sticking to premed, and just because it worked out for me doesn’t mean it’ll work out for everyone else. You should consider going all in on your path only if:
  1. You know exactly what went wrong and have a realistic plan on how to fix it. Be honest about your capabilities and weaknesses when making a plan. Ask yourself, if you were to retake classes you did poorly in, would you be confident in getting As in most if not all of them?
  2. You know with 100% certainty that you want to be a physician more than any other career after considering all your options. This may be obvious, but the earlier you jump ship, the less money and time you’ll waste on a journey going no where.
You should at least know if you even want to work in healthcare. I’ve never heard any one of my coworkers say they had a good day at the end of a shift. This work is not fun and the money and clout (however much you think there is) alone are not worth it. My personal justification for choosing healthcare is that working in a hospital has been the only place where I feel like I fit in. I’ve never been good at making friends, always crawled my way through school, and it’s hard to find hobbies and interests. But being on the floor, helping my patients and the team, is comforting for me, in a way. I feel like giving away parts of my life so that others can live theirs is what I was meant to do. I’m at baseline a lazy person, but at the hospital I feel like I have endless energy even after a 16 hour shift.
Don’t be discouraged by others’ success. “Comparison is the thief of joy”. Not gonna lie, seeing some sankeys of an applicant with 4.0 & 528, 7 first author pubs in no gap years, 6000 clinical hours, CEO of 3 companies, and an A for every single T20 school made me feel like a loser at times because my application was not even the same league. But keep in mind - 1) you don’t have to go to a top ranked school to be a good doctor, and 2) the path from point A to point B is different for everyone. For some, it’s short and straight; for others, it’s slow, bumpy, loopy, and goes backwards at times. But getting to point B in the end is what matters most. Medicine is not supposed to be a competition. So just be happy for them and focus on improving yourself. We’re all going to be called Dr. ___ in the end anyway.
Don’t listen to everything that people say, especially if they haven’t even applied to medical school - such as premed advisors. The only time I ever talked to my undergrad premed advisor, he pulled out a chart with a bell curve showing the likelihood of a med school acceptance based on GPA and MCAT. He pointed to coordinate (0,0), approximately, and said “you are here” and that was pretty much the entire conversation. Take everything with a grain of salt, even from successful applicants. My friend who’s an M3 said my application had too many red flags, that I won’t get in with any community service, and that I should’ve waited another year to apply. Which honestly wasn’t even bad advice, but I ended up proving her wrong anyway.
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this but I actually stopped talking about premed stuff irl, which improved my mood. When meeting new people I just told them I'm planning on going into research and teaching (which is still true), because if I mentioned premed, a lot of the ensuing conversations were just annoying asf - like when they ask me what my gpa is, or give me unprompted, unwarranted advice. I also kinda took a step back from my premed and med school friends because I already spend a lot of time each day worrying about my application, and the last thing I want to do is talk about it more in my free time. Another reason is because some friends would lose respect for me if I told them about my academic struggles. And personally, I absolutely hated when people told me to give up on med school, which happened a few times.
MD schools with relatively low average stat ranges are a little deceptive. I naively applied to them thinking they would be easier to get into but now I know it's not the case. Usually these schools just care more about "fit" and less about boasting high stats, and you can often tell what they value in their secondary essay questions. For example, Rush and Tulane seem to like applicants with a ton of service hours, and experience with addressing health disparities and helping underserved communities. UIllinois likes engineering students, so it’s no wonder their average GPA is lower. So even if I had better stats, I'd still probably have no chance of getting into these schools. You can also figure out good fits by going through sankeys of applicants with similar stats and ECs as you, and see which schools they had success with.
If you’re a high stat applicant that is wondering how I got in - I don’t know either. There is definitely always an aspect of luck (and unfairness, in my opinion) in the application process, and obviously I was very lucky. A lot of people have fantastic applications, do everything right, and will make great doctors one day, but still don’t get an A this cycle. Also, some adcom members are just chemistry professors, PIs, and people with an MBA degree, who hardly know anything about practicing medicine, and it’s crazy that they’re the ones deciding who’s going to be in the next generation of doctors. Just keep applying, and definitely apply to schools based on mission fit, not just their stat ranges.

There’s more I want to say but my post is already super long. You can DM me if you have any questions. I'm no expert in anything but I'll be honest and I'll try my best

2023.06.09 22:52 -_Vorplex_- My car has battery issues that don't seem to be the battery

When I bought my car, it had started dying overnight very often when nothing was left on. I went and bought a new battery from autozone and it was good for about 5 days until it did the same but worse, it had come completely dead multiple days in a row. I took it to NAPA auto parts to geta diagnosis and the results for the battery said "Battery charge CCA: 750. Battery charge actual: 290" and recommended I get a new one put it. At this point I was just annoyed and quite frankly didn't care if I was being scammed as long as it fixed the problem. The battery was around $280 so not a massive hit.
It was working fine for a week and now it was completely dead again. The problem cannot be the battery when 2 brand new batteries failed so quickly. I know you can't actually examine my car and find out what the issue is but does anyone have any suggestions of what it could be?
The car is a 2008 Saturn Astra

2023.06.09 22:34 thesunofflorence I don’t know what to do - family may be on the streets tomorrow

My family (me, mom, and disabled dad) has been living in a motel for a couple of months now after having issues finding a place after our lease ended and having back-rent that we have since been unable to pay. We’ve been getting by with my moms paycheck, my dads disability check and the money I earn through Instacart and DoorDash.
However, on Monday, my car broke down, and after getting and installing a new battery (which did not fix the no-start), is now in the shop - it’s looking like it’s not going to be until Monday that I’m hopefully going to be able to pick it up, even though we were told it would likely be ready today. The shop is closed on Saturday’s and Sunday’s, which I didn’t realize until an hour ago.
I’m requesting the money we would need for the motel for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - in exact total, it would be $328.29 (or is right now, as it fluctuates on the weekends), or somewhere around $350, depending on the fees needed to cash out the money, if we’re successful - we have enough ramen to get us through the weekend - we would only need the money necessary for our room. My mom would be getting paid on or around the 15th as well.
I can add proof in comments, I think? But it won’t allow me to post images or links.

Hey everyone, I need some help with this car
So here’s the run down. This is my 1998 Honda Civic EX. 189,000 miles, 5 speed manual with a d16y8 engine. I’ve had this car for probably 6 years or so now. Well about 2 years ago I parked it cause I bought a truck. I haven’t driven it since. When I parked it, it ran great. Well I’ve decided I want to get it running again cause I miss driving it. What should I do to get her running again
What I know it needs:
-Passenger side CV axle (I’m going to replace both sides though)
-Definitely needs a battery. The old one was swollen
-All fluids are gonna get changed
-Tires are shot but I have a full set of wheels and tires ready to go
-Planning on replacing the spark plugs and wires while I’m under the hood
-Pretty sure I’ll need the brakes done. If I’m not mistaken the rotors were warped before I parked it
As far as that, what else should I do/look out for before starting this project? I went to jump it but obviously the batter won’t hold any charge but I was able to check that all the electronics worked and it tried (miserably unfortunately) to turn over but just wouldn’t get enough juice from the swollen battery. It was also parked with a nearly empty tank. I also had a brand new clutch installed before I parked it. The new clutch has maybe 5-6,000 miles on it

Garmin and radar screens broken on Black Square analogue planes
Hey all! So, like the title says. I loaded up my analogue Bonanza yesterday, went through the checklists and turned on the engines. Then turned on the avionics and...none of the screens on the GNS530 and 530 turn on. I also notice that the radar screen shows that there is no transmittereceiver and is stuck on . Knob does nothing and it is stuck on "self test". Tried it on both non-turbocharged variants (with and with no tip tanks). Loaded up the Caravan, and same thing.
Checked, and I do have the WT GNS530/430 installed, even tested the Twin Otter and the screens load up there as expected.
Anybody else encountering this? Or any idea how to try to fix it? I already downloaded and run the installation which didn't fix it. Attaching an image of how it looks (in this image the engine is off, I'm just running on battery power with avionics on for testing purposes).

Google Maps confused about range
Maps got confused today about range and battery levels. It was showing that I would arrive at destination with -3%, having 74% charge and 61Km to go. The estimate % at arrival changed multiple times, ranging roughly between -25 and +12. It came to its senses after about 30 minutes, without any intervention. Worked OK on the way back.
I had my car for less than 2 months now and drove under 3000 Km, first time acting this way. Is this something that happens and should be ignored?
I have 2.9 installed last week, long range, single motor.

I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge about credit cards. My parents have never had any credit cards (they also don't trust banks). My credit history only consists of the Capital One platinum credit card that I have a 2% utilization of currently (not completely sure what that means). I used to use the card regularly on eBay for large purchases for my parents but I always pay it off monthly 100%. I had a medical bill that went to collections about 6 years ago but that no longer shows on my credit report.
I also might have just made a stupid mistake by applying the the Capital One SavorOne card as it said I was pre-approved. I also thought since I have an ok savings and checking account with them it would increase the likelihood of my approval. They denied me. Not sure where to go from here.
Thank you for your help. I also would appreciate any other financial advice.

2023.06.09 20:54 Buzzed_and_Sleepy Ignition issues?

I have a 2010 SE with 170k miles on it and my ignition woes have gotten steadily worse. I go to crank, accessories come on, go to start it takes about two or three tries for the starter to engage.
Have gotten a new battery, all connections good, starter when it goes, is strong, so I’m guessing the issue is in the ignition, trying to avoid costly repair - does anyone have a quick fix? Contact cleaner in the ignition? I drive this car daily.
Thanks!

2023.06.09 20:23 Datleedoe Issues with 3008

Issues with 3008
So, I posted recently about an issue with my car, (I'll try and have the link to it below).
I left the car in the local garage on Tuesday. Picked it up today. They couldn't find anything wrong. Car started perfectly every time and they tested the batter and alternator with no problems. They recommended I take the car to the garage that had installed the battery in February as it'd be under warrenty if faulty. Done that and no issues showing
They connected it to their computer to see what errors would show. 1 error kept showing in the system every time the car started, something to do with the electrics involved when starting the car.
The worst part is that none of them seen the issue actually happen.
I drive the car for the rest of the day with no problems. Park up and leave it for a few hours. Then this happened again. Wish the garage had a way to send them this video

2023.06.09 20:21 OutBeyondNeptune Why is it so expensive to be renewable?

I have a 20 panel (Hyundai HIS-M255RG), 5kw array that's about 7 years old on my home, no battery, and a Sunnyboy SMA SB 5000TL-US-22 inverter. Unfortunately, my roof was damaged in a storm and needs to be replaced, but even fighting with the insurance company for almost a year doesn't look like it's going to give me the additional cost of removing and replacing the panels around the roofer's job ($4k - $6k).
I was looking at expanding my system some since I'm going to have to pay to have the panels taken down and put up again anyway, and one installer is trying to quote me $15-$18k to add a 10kw battery and the equipment to run it. Does this sound right? It's crazy that my EV has a 77 kw battery, but one geared for the home is so much more expensive.
I honestly don't have solar on my house to try to go cheap on my power bill, but I want to make a statement and do my little part to support a renewable energy transition. I also have an electric lawnmower and drive an EV. It's astonishing that after years of reading stories about how battery technology is improving and the cost of solar is plunging it's still so expensive to make these kinds of improvements.

2023.06.09 19:53 GivingIsTheBestGift Why no Tax Rebate For Non Plug in Hybrid cars?

Right now there is a tax rebate only of fully electric or Plug in hybrid cars. But if you see, EV or plug in battery needs outside source to draw energy, which may still use traditional electricity generation (eg coal) or additional installation for charging points . Now in case of Non plug in Hybrid cars, its battery is being charged by its engine itself and its also env friendly in its own way for below reasons:
  1. No outside energy source to charge battery
  2. no separate charging station or connection needed
  3. works pretty much similar to EV in heavy traffic/slow moving mode which avoids pollution
So what are the stand out factor which make the govt to not give Tax rebate on non plug in hybrid cars but only plug in Hybrids?

2023.06.09 19:26 Sandman_LXV Got my first AEG. CYMA CM.009D

Got my first AEG. CYMA CM.009D
Finally bought myself my first airsoft rifle, a CYMA CM.009D MOSFET Edition. Along with a basic optic (Theta Operator Reflex), and a carry handle rail adaptor. I’m super pleased with it, it feels really well built and weighty, and the action seems very smooth and robust from testing in my yard.
I’m just waiting for a new LiPo battery, Speed Loader and Smart Charger to arrive.
For any attachment pests or techs out there: The Theta Optics Operator Reflex comes with a riser pre-installed (shown in my 3rd picture). My plan was to remove this riser as it will already be sitting on top of a fixed carry handle, however when I’ve removed it, the screws that are used to fix the mounting base to the optic are now too long! Does anyone know where I can get screws that will fit? Thanks!

2023.06.09 19:25 asickbreadstick The RC stories that occur in the same universe (and proof!)

Ok ok! I've just put all these connections together in my head today and had to share!
  1. In Heavens Secret 1, Sam from Chasing You is assigned to angels, demons and the unclaimed as part of a task, to try to get him to win or lose an illegal street race.
  2. This same illegal race track is a large part of the story in On Thin Ice.
  3. The race track is owned by Leon from On Thin Ice and Hades from Rage of the Titans.
  4. Tate from On Thin Ice also mentions to Catherine (OTI MC) that he knows Murphy from Rage of the Titans.
  5. Andrea from Rage of the Titans and Catherine from On Thin Ice went to the same high school. They meet at the bar Catherine works at in both stories
  6. In season 2 of Chasing You 1, Agatha sees a screen advertising the dancing crew from Seduced by the Rhythm while she's in Sweden.
  7. In Sophie's 10 Wishes, Sophie goes on holiday with Logan and Blake and sees one of the Seduced by the Rhythm crew (Carlos) perform in a club. On the same holiday, Sophie meets the MC from Wave Patrol.
To recap: Heaven's Secret, On Thin Ice, Chasing You 1, Rage of the Titans, Wave Patrol, Sophie's 10 Wishes and Seduced by the Rhythm all exist in the same universe.
This must mean that the Horsemen's Apocalypse in Heavens Secret 2 is affecting all the characters from those stories so...damn!
Imagine how they're all coping with that.
And then seperately.
  1. At the end of Kali Call of Darnkess, if Amrit doesn't die (and I think you might have to be on his route) he mentions characters from The Desert Rose, in reference to relations between the two countries.
  2. In Dracula's Love Story, Millie and her friend wear tee shirts with quotes from Heavens Secret 1 and the faces of the characters from Moonborn. This suggests that these stories are fictional in their world.
  3. We also see the same thing in Elite Tag. Does that possibly suggest that Elite Tag and Dracula Love Story could exist in the same universe ??? Might be a stretch idk.
Has anyone else spotted other Easter eggs?
It's some great writing and interweaving of the stories! Love it!

Hello, I have a 2023 F150 Lightning XLT standard range. I got it in december 2022. I have been lookong for resources online about isntalling the 240v outlet on the bed but havent had any luck. I have the section on my bed wall where a 240v outlet would be installed but it didnt come on my trim level. I only have the 120v outlets installed. Does anyone know if my trim has the capability to have the outlet set up? Or is it only capable with the extended range battery?
